The story of our wedding
We met over 10 years ago in high school and starting dating our senior year. Gus proposed at the Art Institute of Chicago in front of one of Jeana's favorite paintings by Georges Seurat. After, we went to the University Club of Chicago (where we later held our Welcome Party before the wedding) for champagne, and after we were settled, both sets of parents walked in to join us!
Jeana's parents are the owners of a flower shop, so to say the decor elements of the wedding were important would be an understatement! We decided to buck the trend of the white/pastel palette and went for something more bold to contrast with the stark white walls of the Blackstone Hotel's Crystal Ballroom. We loved the hotel's rich history and famous visitors (Paul Newman, Marilyn Monroe, a dozen US presidents, just to name a few...) The ballroom may also be familiar to some from the scene in The Untouchables where Al Capone (Robert DeNiro) murders his henchman with a baseball bat. We were sure to share the significance and anecdotal past of the hotel with our guests by including a printed summary on cardstock and placed at each seat with our guests' menu.
The groomsmen wore traditional black tuxes from The Black Tux and the bridesmaids selected their own floor-length silver gown, and each carried their own bouquet of single stems in the wedding colors. It was important that each bridesmaids' individual personality could shine and and spent the day celebrating in whatever made them feel most comfortable.
Our favorite moment from the wedding was sharing time together during dinner at the reception. We opted for a sweetheart table (which we highly recommend!) and it allowed us to spend some quality time together. The day flies by so fast, and you rarely get a moment to breathe, so it was perfect to actually sit together and soak in the momentous day. It was especially overwhelming to see all of our friends and family together in one room, socializing and celebrating, and we took a quick panoramic video on our phones of the entire room full of love.
