7 Dec, 2019The story of our wedding
Chuck and I first met in 2012 during a night out in Burlington. I was just starting pharmacy school and out with classmates and he was out with friends. We briefly interacted at one of the bars, but nothing ever came of it. It wasn't until April 2014 when our paths crossed again. We didn't talk that night, but like typical people in our generation, he friended me on Facebook. A few weeks later a couple of mutual friends set us up on a double date. We met downtown and Chuck showed up on his motorcycle (I immediately thought, yeah I'm not going to like this guy). I wouldn't say it was a perfect first date, seeing as though we had to watch some stupid boxing fight that night, but we continued to see each other after. I am happy that we did (I am also happy he sold his motorcycle)!
Everyone had always joked that I would have to propose to Chuck, as I am a planner and Chuck was taking his time. This past December we went to Disney again and I was patiently waiting...and waiting throughout other trips earlier that year. I won't forget to mention I did tell him I wanted a Disney proposal with the dogs - making it essentially impossible for him to fulfill my wishes!
Continue reading »Disney World fills me with joy, especially around Christmas time, when it is more magical than usual. We were at Magic Kingdom walking up Main Street. It wasn't until we neared the castle that Chuck started jostling his jacket around. He took off his coat (in 40 degree weather), as we approached the next photographer. I began walking to the spot to take the photo, when I heard Chuck say something to the photographer. Surprise..surprise.. Ok, so maybe I wasn't completely shocked and maybe I did know it was coming, but it still was one of the greatest moments of my life. Chuck got down on his knee (then proceeded to stay there until I asked him if he was ever going to stand up again) and asked me to marry him. I said YES of course and here we are now.
Chuck and I typically aren't fans of the cold weather, but living in Vermont we do our best to deal with it. The holiday season is one of my favorites and I am a total sucker for Hallmark Channel Movies all winter long. After deciding we wanted something different than the typical fall foliage Vermont wedding, we decided on a December date at Spruce Peak Lodge in Stowe, Vermont. We had stayed their before and fell in love with the atmosphere not only at the lodge but in the village. We also choose this venue due to the pet friendly nature of the lodge because we wanted to include our two miniature dachshunds.
Our wedding was elegant and not to Christmas-y. We wanted to truly embrace the beauty of winter! Our rehearsal dinner was held at the Whistle Pig Pavilion in the Spruce Peak Village which offers a great rustic Vermont venue with a huge stone fireplace in the center -- making the room extra cozy. We partook in ice skating on the rink outside in the village while snow fell, lights shined on the trees, and Christmas music played. It was truly out of a movie.
Getting ready at the lodge was perfect - the rooms are decorated beautifully with woodworking and rustic Vermont touches. We had the picture perfect wedding day with a slow, beautiful snowfall for our outdoor photos and ceremony. It was truly breathtaking. The cocktail hour continued with winter decorations and specialty cocktails named after our dog breeds. The reception venue was beautifully decorated and dancing continued all night long! We even had a Ben & Jerry's ice cream sundae bar as well as S'mores out by the fire pit on the terrace where our ceremony took place!
Our wedding was different in that we had guests come from different countries to celebrate. Chuck's family is from Bosnia so it was a truly unique experience to have many different cultures and languages come together to celebrate all weekend! We could not have asked for better vendors, a better venue, or better people to dance the night away with!
