11 Oct, 2019The story of our wedding
Chad and I got engaged in December of 2018. He planned Christmas photos with our dogs, which I thought we would just be using for Christmas cards..but I was wrong! During the photoshoot, he got down on one knee at sunset (my favorite time of day) in the snow and -6 degree windchill and proposed. It was perfect, cold, but perfect. We had decided pretty quickly on a destination wedding, so we met with a local travel agent who helped us narrow down locations of where we potentially wanted to go based on criteria we provided to her. After looking at various different locations, we finally chose Punta Cana in February of 2019. Our travel agent helped ease the fears and any questions that our families had about the entire process.
We had originally planned a resort wedding, but somehow I came across Kukua Beach Club on Instagram and I instantly fell in love. The planning process at Kukua was a breeze, I honestly sent Mayte, the coordinator, my Pinterest boards and she created an even more beautiful vision than I could have imagined. Most of our coordination had been through email, she was prompt and I had any and all questions answered quickly. She sent an outline to help plan each moment of the day - from song choices, decor, menu, etc. She also sent helpful vendor recommendations, or you can choose your own. We actually found both of our vendors on Wedding Wire. We loved the style and vibrance of Junior Cruz, and chose him for our photography. I then found Olga Pipich, loving her hairstyles and light make up looks and chose her as our hair/make up artist. They were both a perfect fit to our wedding planning. They all stayed in frequent contact, which made planning a wedding thousands of miles away as stress free as possible.

We loved finally getting to see the venue in person, getting all of the details finalized, trying every single thing on the menu, including drinks and desserts! When we walked into Kukua in person, it provided a great sense of that we had made the right decision in a destination wedding. It was more beautiful than we had imagined, and Mayte was a complete doll. She greeted us with a huge hug and made us feel like we had known her for years. After we finished with the tastings and tours, we headed back to the resort to meet our photographer. Junior was also welcoming, confident and fun to be around! He assured us that he would get us the perfect photos, and he exceeded any sort of expectation we had.
After having breakfast by the ocean the morning of the wedding, we were picked up by a van to take us to Kukua. The driver of the van was wonderful, energetic and even he had help set the tone of how the day would be. We arrived to Mayte waiting for us, helping us get to the suite and Olga and her assistant Anastsia immediately started hair and make up for my mom, and two bridesmaids. They were fun, helped make suggestions to make sure that everyone looked absolutely beautiful. Mayte checked in on us several times, making sure we were comfortable, and updated us on the progress of how everything was being set up. Olga had worked some serious magic on my thin hair and makeup, I couldn't have imagined a better look for my big day. Seeing everything coming together was one of the many many times I cried throughout the day and somehow my make up stayed flawless. Walking down the stairs to do a first look with first my father, and my now husband I was speechless looking at all of the beautiful decor and I had a hard time believing it was for MY wedding. Mayte had gone above and beyond with every single detail, everywhere I looked there was something beautiful to be admired. After the first looks with two of the most important men in my life, my dad and husband everything went so quickly! The ceremony was held on the beach and it was perfect...and of course I was the one to mess up the vows haha. I'm glad we did a first look, as you don't realize how quickly time goes, and we were still taking photos right up to dinner. The meal with impeccable, there isn't one thing that I would change about it. The rest of the night of eating cake, dancing our hearts out and making memories with our most important friends and family made me again thankful that we chose Kukua to hold and create all of those memories. The end of the night was complete when Mayte joined in on the bouquet toss, so much fun!
We cannot thank Mayte and her team at Kukua, Junior and Olga enough for all of their hard work making our dreams come true!
