This review is LOOONG overdue -- if you want an officiant who make your wedding memorable, an officiant who will ease all your nerves on (and leading up) to your wedding, then Chris is it! From the moment we had our initial consultation, we knew we had found a great fit. Having a Black officiant was important to us and finding Your Custom Ceremony was worth the search!
Chris was so easy to work with. Every step of the way was a breeze. Communication was clear and prompt. Chris was patient, and made himself available for any and all questions we had. He also offered so many great ideas and suggestions to make our day unique to us.
We also opted for YCC's pre-marital coaching sessions and truly found such value in them. Highly recommend!! We explored many avenues that couples will encounter throughout married life and Chris helped to equip us with the tools to overcome the obstacles we may face.
By the time our wedding day finally arrived, it felt like Chris was just an old friend, coming to celebrate with us. He arrived early to conduct final checks, met with the bride and groom to be as well as the rest of the vendor team. Once the ceremony began, Chris commanded the room; he was funny and heartfelt. When he spoke, everyone listened. He lead our ceremony flawlessly! We had an unplugged wedding, but Chris gave our guests an opportunity for a 60 second photo-op, true paparazzi style! And everyone loved it! Once the 60 seconds were over, all devices were put away and the rest of the ceremony could continue with 100% focus and 0 distractions.
So, no matter what your wants or needs are re: an officiant, Chris is your guy! He made our wedding - plain and simple. He exceeded our expectations and for that, we cannot thank you enough, Chris! Truly was the best day ever :) THANK YOU!! -

Chris ended up being one of the best decisions we made while planning our Santa Barbara ceremony. He was communicative, open, friendly, approachable, and genuinely listened to our interests during our selection process. When we decided to hire him as our officiant, he remained consistent with communication and responsive which was very important to a couple that was anxious about "getting it right." We didn't have to reach out to him for answers or updates, he reached out to us first! On our wedding day, Chris was punctual and the entire ceremony ran smoothly. Chris even offered to translate part of our ceremony into Spanish for some of our Spanish-speaking family. Post-ceremony, many of our guests commented on his charisma and how he kept everyone engaged from beginning till end. Although his pricing is higher than most, we feel we got a great return on our investment and would encourage other couples to trust his professionalism. -

Chris gave us a ceremony greater than we could have asked for! He told our love story, had our guested laughing , crying happy tears, and completely focused and engaged in our ceremony. Ok!! I'm a wedding vendor and I heard Chris at another wedding and knew I needed him at my wedding. My wedding was 2 years away and Chris was kind of enough to hold the date for me!!
And when the day came Chris had the crowd entertained and reminded them to not have their phones out during the ceremony but did give them a 60 second photo opportunity during the ceremony. And after the wedding the one thing our guest said they loved was the ceremony.
Chris makes sure your ceremony is not boring but memorable for you and the guests alike. If you are thinking about hiring Chris, hire him. You will not regret it!! -

From the first day we met Chris we could just feel the honesty, sincerity and pure happiness that projects from him.
We honestly didn’t know what to expect and thought this would be a very ridged and mundane process. That said, from the first second, Chris made this about US and what we felt was right for our day and our wedding.
His professionalism and ability to listen, absorb and put together a ceremony that was nothing less than perfect was simply over and above our expectations.
The comments from our guests mimicked our feeling and appreciation for Chris. He was an absolute Gem and we are so appreciative to have such a humble and great person to officiate our wedding.
Chris provided us guidance throughout the process while not coming off as demanding or judging the differences ideas we had.
We did a special thing at the beginning of the ceremony and it really made our day. (I know you almost teared us Chris)!
I could write on and on but I will just say.. we would 150% recommend Chris to anyone that is looking for a perfect officiant to make their day what they want. -

The BEST Officiant!
Chris was amazing! From our first meeting(a quick Zoom call that turned into a nerd session) to meeting at our actual wedding, the entire process was easy and what we wanted. Chris made our ceremony special and interactive with the guests, which every one loved & raved about during cocktail hour. Awesome Officiant
Chris delivered on everything he promised & more. From the first call he asked questions to get to know us and made us feel he's known us for years. It was very comfortable & easy talking to him. He provided us ample of examples for giving of the Bride wording, vow exchanges & ceremony ideas that range from non religious to religious. We are not a religious couple so it was a relief to know he had so many options for us to choose from. The options could also be tailored to our style and preference.. he made it very clear this was our wedding :) He provided a draft and asked us to review it & he would check in with us before our wedding day. On our wedding day he was there early as he promised. Chris rocked our wedding! Everyone loved his words and his presentation of our love. We could not be thankful enough to have been so lucky to find him. And it doesn't end there .. he made sure our witnesses perfectly signed our license and he even sent us a pix of him personally sending off our license to make us feel at ease. The whole process was so easy and painless... we were truly blessed to have found him. -

Two weeks before our wedding, our officiant ghosted us. Frantically we searched for another officiant and thankfully our venue was able to recommend Chris. Chris was absolutely the most perfect officiant for our wedding!!! Do not hesitate to hire him for your special day! He is very accommodating and fun. I appreciated that Chris was very quick to respond to any questions that I had, and that he was still so helpful with any questions even after the ceremony (i.e. how to go about my name change). He also offers premarital counseling! Working with Chris allowed us to learn even more about each other in a fun and honest way leading up to our day. We were given homework assignments that really helped us dig deep into our relationship. And we still use the skills we learned during our sessions, on an everyday basis. And it is true, Chris makes you feel like this is "Your Custom Ceremony"! Whatever we wanted to be in our ceremony is exactly what we got. From wanting to have fun and energetic moments during our ceremony, to having an unplugged ceremony, to including prayer in our ceremony. Everything that we wanted to do was done without question, making it even more of a breeze to work with Chris. He is fantastic, don't hesitate to work with him! -

We booked Chris after having a Zoom call to get to know him and it was undoubtedly one of the best choices we made for our Wedding Ceremony! The Golden Voice
As a DJ I’ve watched him from afar but never knew at my last wedding of the year that he’d be the officiant. When he walked up to me when I was setting up I knew exactly who he was. In the wedding world he’s a superstar! It showed when the wedding party didn’t enter the church and I had to go get them 😄 He kept those attending in the church entertained. Once I got them lined up he was ready to go. His style is unlike any officiant I’ve worked with. Many have the same type of style or did the online thing to do the ceremony for family or a friend. But his golden voice, entertaining, joyful, strong presence, and love for the couples is shown greatly. I was very happy to work with him. Looking forward to many more in the future. -

If I could give more stars I would, Chris was amazing!!! We have recently been to several weddings and let me tell you, finding a good officiant is important! They run the flow of your ceremony and pump up your crowd who is there to celebrate your love. Chris was professional, easy to talk to, asked all the right questions to get to know us and our story, answered all of my crazy questions including “what would you do if there was an unruly guest?” He had the perfect answer “well I am a comedian with stage experience, so I am used to hecklers and could handle it no problem.” He put all of my “what if‘s” to rest and was so organized with his flow giving several options for word choices truly customizing our ceremony to match our love story, even dealing with our last minute changes he handled it like a pro. During the reception all of our guests kept saying how beautiful our ceremony was and how amazing our officiant was! Everyone loved him (including us). I wish I knew more people that were getting married so I could recommend Chris to them. Take this as your sign to book Chris as soon as possible! -

Chris was nothing short of amazing! I found him on WeddingWire and he came highly rated. We set up our initial meeting and never turned back. Hire Chris!
I’m so happy I found Chris online in my officiant search. He met my husband and I over a zoom call and made everything incredibly easy for us in creating our ceremony - wouldn’t trade him for another officiant in the world! We’re in love with how the ceremony turned out - he wowed us with his officiating. Though we were nervous, he had us feeling comfortable and just able to feel ourselves us there. 1 month post wedding and I'm still running into guests who will ask, "Where did you find your officiant Chris?!!! He was awesome!" Out of 210 guests, we had so many raving about him or asking if he was from our hometown in IN or from LA where we got married. He made our ceremony personal, spent time getting to know us via zoom, and made the ceremony meaningful, yet fun! He was open to suggestions or things we wanted to make it more personal and pulled it together beautifully for us. You won't be disappointed, you'll be so thankful if Chris officiates your wedding. -

Absolutely Perfect!
Chris was INCREDIBLE!
We live in Virginia and were nervous about finding the officiant that was right for us for our wedding in Malibu. After the first conversation (via zoom), we knew he was PERFECT! Our ceremony was full of love and laughs. It wasn’t too long or short. And we could feel God’s presence. Truly a perfect day.

Cannot say enough amazing things about Chris and Your Custom Ceremony! From the initial consultation video chat, Chris spent the time to get to know us and find out everything about us as a couple. After that we had some "homework" and Chris went above and beyond to incorporate our story into our ceremony. He made sure that we were comfortable and had everything included we wanted on our special day! He gave great advice and recommendations on ceremony rituals and vows that made everything so seamless. His style of writing had the perfect balance of thoughtful humor and romance, all catered depending on our preferences.

The second we jumped on an introductory call with Chris, my husband and I knew we were in good hands. Finding an officiant was the most difficult part of planning our wedding because so many officiants go off of a standard template. However, it was completely the opposite with Chris. He was so accommodating throughout the entire process, and had our ceremony completely tailored to our relationship. It truly was the highlight of the day. During the reception, the first thing guests were asking was how we found such an awesome officiant! Our friends who are getting married soon even asked for his information. Hiring Chris was probably one of the best parts if not the best part of our wedding day. Chris brought such an amazing energy to our wedding ceremony. Our Dream Officiant-Dec 2021
When looking for an officiant for our Dec 2021 wedding it was important we chose someone who understood our culture. With Chris we got that and so much more! From the beginning Chris was extremely easy to talk to and up front about the process and costs which we appreciated. I’m pretty sure we booked him in February for our December wedding so whatever you do DON’T WAIT he will get booked and you will regret it.
I’m a planner, my fiancé (now husband) is not but Chris never pressured us with deadlines for our homework as my partner never had his ready on time (make sure you select the package with homework!) The homework made our ceremony so special and unique to us. Initially I thought my favorite part of our wedding day would be the party but hands down my husband and I agree as well as our guests that it was our ceremony!
Our custom ceremony was filled with the perfect balance of fun, love, entertainment and emotion. Yes, weddings are supposed to be serious but chris has a special way of making that seriousness not feel boring or stuffy. We as a couple, as well as our audience laughed, cried, and celebrated all in the matter of 45 mins. Chris added our tradition of jumping the broom into the ceremony and we didn’t even have to ask him to explain why this was done to our audience, he did it on his own.
After the ceremony was over Chris helped us sign our marriage license with our witnesses and delivered it the next business day to the clerks office. To our surprise there was an error on our paperwork (no fault of Chris) and we needed it to be corrected ASAP. Without hesitation and during the holiday week when we all know most people stop working (12/24-12/31) he corrected the issue immediately. And sent photo with receipts to calm my nerves.
We obviously could go on and on and if you’ve made it this far in my review you should just book Chris if he is still available or change your date to make it work with him.
Side note my mom (the mother of the bride) works in a church and was skeptical about us not using our family pastor to do the entire ceremony. Our pastor did however say a prayer and a few words during the ceremony which Chris was totally fine with. Anyway after the ceremony my mom had nothing but nice things to say when the wedding was over about Chris and was very pleased even after being skeptical at first.
Okay to sum it up, just do it you won’t regret it. It will be memorable for you and your guests. Definitely one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. Thank you Chris! -

Hiring Chris was the smartest decision we ever made. He's funny, detail-oriented and a PERFECT officiant. When people mention our wedding, right after they say how beautiful it was....they say "Oh my GOODNESS your OFFICIANT was AMAZING!" Our ceremony felt like US and represented our morals and values. Chris helped us determine what really is important to us. We did our own vows AND traditional. We even did a wine ceremony and it fit soooo well!
I must also mention, Chris had sixth sense about things. When I was waiting for our ceremony to start, Chris came to check on me and see how I was doing. He even offered to pray with me, which meant the WORLD to me. It calmed nerves I didn't even know I had. Even during the ceremony, I was thrown off by a quick move one of the photographers made and Chris moved my hands so they were in place to put my hubby's ring on correctly. Little things like that mattered so much to me. Chris helped make our day perfect, even with the little lumps and bumps. One more thing about Chris, he checked on us more than any other vendor. Yes, we had great vendors....but Chris checked in just to say "hi". Not to bug us about a payment, not to ask us whether or not we did our homework....just to check on us. When you're wrapped up in wedding stuff, it's nice to have someone just say "Hi" and not ask you to do anything! Chris is absolutely fabulous and worth every dime. You will never regret working with him!!!! -

Let me first start with I was a wedding coordinator for over three years, and Chris is the best officiant I’ve ever experienced! My husband and I first saw Chris in action at a friends wedding, and I was instantly impressed. He knew how to keep the ceremony flow moving smoothly, kept everyone entertained, and how to move out of the way for the important photos (something most officiants don’t get). When we met with Chris (virtually) for our big day, he was just as we remembered. Friendly, very personable, and as humorous as you want him to be. When it says “your custom ceremony” that’s exactly what you’re getting. He went over our story, asked us questions to really understand us, and when it came to the big day, Chris made it just what we wanted. Our friends and family were so pleased. And even though we had seen Chris in a prior ceremony, it wasn’t the same “cookie cutter” presentation. It truly was ours! Thank you so much, Chris! -

I don't know how I got so lucky booking Chris, but if he's available to officiate your wedding book him. From the beginning "interview" to the email picture proof/tracking number with our marriage certificate I am BEYOND impressed. Every wedding guest of mine has told me "how did you find the guy that married you? He's awesome" or "that was the best ceremony Ive been too". It truly is a customized ceremony that will make you laugh, cry, and have your closest family and friends engaged the entire time. I have also booked Chris for his couples coaching sessions, and I am not looking forward to when they end because me & my now husband get so much out of them. Do yourself a favor, and book Chris ASAP
Our wedding was July 25 2021. With that being said, the reason why it took me so long to review Chris is mainly because I have no words that will do this man justice. When we began planning, one of the most daunting tasks was finding an officiant because the ceremony was the most important part to us. We eloped in 2019 and were were supposed to have our wedding in 2020, but the pandemic hit. We were saving our vows for our “big” wedding ceremony so needless to say, we wanted the ceremony to shine and finally give us the platform to show our love for one another. We wanted someone that understood us like a family member but we weren’t too keen on the idea of having a family member officiate our wedding. One quick google search later, we found Chris. Simply put, after meeting with Chris we felt like we had a meeting with someone that knew us for years. After leaving our consultation my husband said, “I could talk to and listen to him tell stories for hours. “
What he put together for our ceremony was beyond anything I could ask for. Somehow he put both of our personalities into words and showcased the love we have for each other in ways I didn’t even think was possible. My husband and I are huge Harry Potter fans and he even included little gems and quotes in our ceremony reading.
Long story short, do not, I repeat, DO NOT look any further. If you are reading this review, you have found your wedding officiant. Chris if funny, caring, professional, but most importantly you can tell he loves what he does. At the end of the day, you need someone like him in your corner.
To Chris, thank you for all that you do and have done for us! If I could give you 100 stars, I would. You were one of the biggest blessings to us during this journey.

How Chris Dickens set the tone for all our wedding vendors!
The best wedding I attended was my own and I’ve been to four this year. At a typical wedding the ceremony is unentertaining and everyone is just waiting for the big kiss so it can finally be over—I did not want that for my wedding. We hired Chris, after a late night last minute internet search—our wedding was a month away. The following morning he responded to us and by the end of the week we virtually met! We were instantly drawn to his charisma his professionalism and ability to keep us thoroughly entertained so we hired him. We completed our homework and a week before our wedding he composed our wedding script. August 7th 2021 I WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY! Chris curated such an amazing ceremony for us and our family! The thing that stuck out most to me was that by the end of our ceremony my husband’s family knew more about me and my family knew more about my husband. During cocktail hour everyone (vendors included) was talking about our ceremony—you would’ve thought Chris knew us our entire adulthood lives. Even today a month past—everyone talks about our wedding from start to finish not just about the reception. I’m so grateful with how Chris was able to intricately weave details of our story throughout the ceremony in a way that was both entertaining and memorable to our guest. We worked with Chris for our wedding, July 17, 2021. Simply AMAZING!! I've sat through SO many boring ceremonies and I knew that I wanted the exact opposite for my wedding. We did a zoom call prior to booking and he treated us like we've known each other for years. When my now-husband and I started planning our wedding, we knew we didn’t want a standard ceremony. We worked with Chris for our wedding on 05/15/2021. Chris was easy going, personable, transparent, he listened to our vision, and was a pleasure to work with. We reached out online and he responded immediately and set-up a meeting. When we met with him it felt like we were talking to a friend. He asked about how we met, our first date, our backgrounds and most importantly the vision for our ceremony.
Throughout the process Chris was responsive, met with us as needed and provided guidance.
On our wedding day Chris arrived early, well before the ceremony start time, hung out with our friends and family and introduced himself to several of our guests. He also made it a point to check-in with me (the bride) and my fiancé, to ensure we were doing good and offered his hand if we needed anything. He checked in with the Best Man to confirm the rings and the marriage license. He even found a way to include my brothers into the ceremony which made me very happy. The last minute changes added to our ceremony.
Then our ceremony came and it was such a special moment. Chris is truly a master of his craft! He had our audience laughing, crying, and celebrating with us. He delivered an exceptional ceremony and guided us through the whole process so we didn’t miss a beat. Our guest thought we’ve known Chris for years and gave us so many compliments. It was an amazing ceremony and a great wedding. We will remember this moment for the rest of our lives.
Chris was truly a pleasure to work with. We are so grateful we found him.
