We had our barn wedding at William Allen Farm and the wedding was absolutely beautiful. Of note, the ownership changed over in 2020 or so and is now under Kate Samson. Kate and her family are wonderful to work with and was always available and communicative throughout the planning process. You get the barn for the entire weekend- so we had our rehearsal dinner on site as well and we utilized the bridal suite for hair and makeup all day on the wedding day. The property is spacious and there are a lot of areas for the ceremony to make it unique. Kate was very flexible with letting us come early on site on Friday to set up and clean up Sunday. We hired their coordinator Ashlea, who exclusively works was WAF, whom I strongly recommend as she was instrumental in advising us where to set up our ceremony, how to set up the tables, etc etc. Of note, Kate offers clean up for an additional fee, which we did not utilize, but you may consider as it really makes things a lot easier. Like all barn weddings, you have to rent and bring everything on site; though for us this meant we got to set it up the way we want and really allow our creative vision to come to life. Overall the barn is gorgeous and beautiful, the property allows for a beautiful ceremony, and Kate is very easy to work with and a wonderful partner in creating your perfect wedding! -

William Allen was the PERFECT venue for our October 30th wedding! It was an absolutely gorgeous "blank slate", where we had use of the entire property and were able to bring in the best vendor team, with Kate's guidance and help. The flexibility was amazing, and Kate and Jim made sure everything went smoothly on the big day. Despite the pouring rain, our guests from all over the country RAVED about the wedding and the venue's beauty.
We are so happy that we chose William Allen and highly recommend it to anyone considering! -

My husband and I were married at William Allen Farm on September 7, 2019. Not only was it the most gorgeous backdrop for our ceremony and reception, but Heidi was such a wonderful person to work with. From the very start we knew we were in great hands with Heidi and WAF. Most of our vendors had worked there before with nothing but glowing reviews. It was so nice to be married at an established venue and with Heidi’s expertise. The bridal suite and bathroom amenities were above any other Maine barn venue and our guests were happy and impressed. If I had to do it all over again Heidi and WAF would be our first pick again. -

Everything we could have wanted and more
The William Allen Farm was the first and only venue we visited. We knew immediately that this was the place for our big day, not just because of the beautiful barn and grounds, but because of how wonderful Heidi and Allen are. Unbelievably responsive, welcoming, and truly cared about our experience. Our wedding day was absolutely perfect with amazing fall foliage. The barn was beautiful, rustic yet still very elegant with the chandeliers and rented drapes. Every space and piece of the property came into play. The groomsman enjoyed drinks up in the loft pre-ceremony, we had cocktail hour with cornhole and then a fire pit on the grounds, the woods further out made a perfect backdrop for an intimate photo shoot, and obviously the barn itself was great for dinner and dancing. Our guests are still talking about it!!!

My husband and I had our wedding reception at this beautiful property this summer. We were so lucky to be able to work with Heidi and Allen (the owners). They were gracious and helpful throughout the entire planning. Heidi is always available when a question arises. The property itself is so well maintained and a perfect place for your wedding photos. We had the most incredible reception thanks to them and their wonderful property! -

Heidi and Al went above and beyond for us during our wedding and while we were planning. We are incredibly grateful for their beautiful space and steadfast presence. It was 95 degrees with 69% humidity on my day but Heidi and Al did everything they could to cool us down and it was STILL beautiful and everyone still enjoyed themselves immensely. Would absolutely recommend. -

We were lucky enough to secure William Allen Farm for our September 2018 wedding. The space is absolutely gorgeous and it has a rustic feel without being shabby. The expansive grounds made for some truly beautiful photos in front of the flower gardens and pond. Heidi and Al were so helpful throughout the whole process. Heidi was quick to answer what felt like the hundreds of questions we had leading up to our day and was so great day-of. The on-site bathrooms were always neat and clean, and bridal suite was such a fun place to get ready, and there was more than enough parking for our wedding of 100. We would definitely pick this venue every time! -

When we started planning our wedding we first focused on choosing our venue and we are so incredibly lucky we got to be at the William Allen Farm. The venue is absolutely stunning and Heidi and Al were an absolute pleasure to work with. If we had to plan our wedding 100 times we have it at the William Allen Farm every single time. Heidi and Al, thank you for everything! -
Tori Sent on 06/12/2018The William Allen Farm was extraordinary. The grounds are obviously well taken care of with impeccable grass, and beautiful gardens scattered throughout. The pond was the perfect setting for our late afternoon wedding ceremony, and the barn itself is the quintessential New England barn that worked wonderfully for our dinner and reception. The bridal suite was beautiful, tranquil, and perfectly set up to accommodate hair and makeup, and the balcony in the barn was the ideal hangout for the groomsmen before the wedding. Thank you for everything, it couldn't have been better!

A beautiful, bright red barn surrounded by stunning scenery - yet there's also something about this place that makes you feel at home. And then you have the owners - Heidi and John - who are so welcoming, generous and respectful all while maintaining a high level of professionalism. My husband and I are very fortunate to have hosted and celebrated our wedding day at WAF in September and loved every moment of our time at the farm and working with the Curry's. Our guests absolutely raved about the barn and property - everyone had a blast! We cannot recommend this venue (or its owners) enough!

Before I get to details about the actual venue, I have to say the best part about booking William Allen Farm was the owner, Heidi. She was incredibly responsive and accommodating. Other venues made us feel like we were going to be churned through a machine but Heidi answered every email, let us visit as often as we wanted to in the year leading up to our wedding, gave us a huge window for setup and breakdown, and was so insanely pleasant throughout. Not only that, but she also seemed to be updating the grounds and venue between every one of our (very frequent) visits. The barn retained the old charm we were looking for when we booked it but also had brilliant new floors, new signage, updated mortar work outside, and about a dozen other upgrades between when we booked it and got married. Heidi is constantly improving it. Her husband Al was a delight as well, making sure the grounds were pristine when the day rolled around. The two of them are on such great terms with all the vendors in the area and entirely happy to work with new ones. We never felt pressured to fit into any kind of box and that took a load of pressure off of us on the day. The venue is beautiful, the grounds are sprawling, there's plenty of great parking, the restrooms and bridal suite are fantastic, and you won't be limited to a specific list of vendors. The only negative is that the town of Pownal has noise ordanances in effect at 10 PM, so you'll need to look for a venue for an afterparty if you want to go longer than that, but you could also start your ceremony earlier if you wanted. -
