Amazing Seamstress

Widad accommodated my last minute request to meet with her. I wasn't aware that I was supposed to get my dress altered months before the wedding. I contacted Widad 2 weeks before my wedding and I needed alteration for my dress and my mom's dress.

When she agreed to alter our dresses, she explained why she charges the way she does. It was nice to hear in detail why some areas of my dress needed work and why some didn't need any work. She also explained the process of having multiple fittings. I love how straightforward she is. When I came in for my second fitting, she was done with my mom's dress and it fit her the way she wanted it to fit her. Widad base stitched 8 inches on my dress and made sure I was able to walk in it before she was gonna cut it. I felt safe leaving my dress with her. During my final fitting, my dress fit like a glove. I couldn't imagine anyone else altering my dress.

The best for bridal alterations

It was recommended to me by the dress boutique where I had purchased my gown to contact Widad for alterations and holy cow, what a recommendation it was! I'm in awe of her talent! She has such an eye for detail and what she did to my bustle was out of this world. She even offered to hang onto my dress for me until the day before the wedding so that she could have it pressed and ready to go. If you are looking for the right bridal alterations place, you will not regret choosing Widad!

Do not go anywhere else!!! WIDAD IS AMAZING!!! She cares about YOU, your happiness, and your dress. She does such incredible work and her only goal is to make you as happy as possible. It was obvious that I was not just a way to make money for her. This is her passion, and she really cares about her brides. I originally went to another alterations shop, but they ended up almost ruining my dress in several places and told me they could not fix other issues. I won't go in to the details, but I called Widad (while crying inside the other alterations shop) and she told me I could come right over. It took a lot of work and a lot of her time (even though we had only a few weeks until the wedding). It took several appointments to fix all of the issues the other shop had created and Widad always made me feel welcome and comforted me that all would be okay. I was utterly devastated when the other shop ruined my dress (thought I would need to get a new one), and Widad worked a MIRACLE. She made it look absolutely beautiful!! I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about her. She does all the work herself. I originally went to the other shop because of pricing, but cost more in the end to get all the issues fixed. Every. single. penny. you will pay Widad will be more than worth it! For such an important aspect of your big day, Widad is the one you should trust!

Widad is amazing and so sweet! She altered my dress to fit me perfectly and the bustle is beautiful. Yes, she is expensive--but you get what you pay for, which is high quality. My mom enjoyed Widad so much from my appointments that she actually brought her dress in to be tailored. Widad is very attentive and knows what she is doing. There is nobody else that I would have trusted to fix up my wedding dress but Widad! She is a genius who has been creating and altering dresses since she was a teen. My beaded dress was at least 5 inches too long and too big in the chest area. Widad took the time to show me options to alter it and made sure I understood and was comfortable before she did any changes. To top it off, she is hilarious and a joy to be around. Go see her!

I would highly recommend Widad because she does beautiful, quality work. She has been doing bridal alterations for many years and she did a beautiful job with my wedding dress. She worked with me based on my schedule for fittings and the end result is beautiful. She cares about quality right down to the tiniest details. I was hesitant to trust anyone to alter my dress but it was in the best hands with Widad. I would recommend her to any of my engaged friends who are looking for someone who does beautiful work.

I don't have enough good things to say about Widad. She did a great job.
My dress was as much as 8 inches too large in some places and she made it fit perfectly. I had a sweetheart with a lace overlay and didn't have to wear a bra or pull it up once all day.
The alterations process was very upsetting to me since it was so extensive but Widad was very nice and understanding.
Her years of experience are obvious in her work.

Every single wonderful review for Widad is true! My daughter lives out of town and Widad accommodated a difficult fitting schedule. She treated my daughter as her own. The dress had multiplke layers of lace which needed to be removed to alter the dress. Widad made sure each detail was perfect. My daughter was comfortable all night in the dress and it stayed in place after hours of dancing. Widad is a gifted dressmaker and seamstress. We are grateful we found her and give her our highest recommendation.

Widad did an amazing job altering my wedding gown, which included creating the bustle for a very unique and difficult train. She does excellent work and is very easy to communicate with. Even though I live in Austin, the drive to Houston and back for several fittings was more than worth it given the outcome. People could not stop talking about how amazing my dress looked, and were amazed at how she made the back of the dress look like a miniature version of the original train once it was bustled. Look no further if you are in need of alterations - Widad is definitely the best!

I had a WONDERFUL experience with Widad. I bought my wedding dress at a resale shop and while it had never been worn (came from a bridal store that closed), there were some adjustments that needed to be made to the size and length. Additionally, my wedding date was 2 months out and I was concerned that the time frame would be tight. Widad did an amazing job of providing the services that I absolutely needed and providing suggestions that would save me money. Specifically, she suggested a show style that would not make a hem adjustment needed. This was a savings of $450!!

She also made multiple small changes and steamed my dress and veil free of charge. These little things really do make the wedding planning experience memorable.

Widad is trustworthy, very kind, caring and passionate about what she does. She is honest, compassionate and very knowledgeable with alterations. I could not have asked for better results and cannot WAIT to wear my perfectly beautiful dress this weekend!

I had a heirloom wedding dress made of silk that my grandmother wore in the 1930's, my mother in the 1970's and I was hoping to wear. My mother was 5'2" and 120 pounds when she wore the dress which was form fitting with full length sleeves for her December wedding. I am 5'8" and 140 pounds having an August wedding. We were both very nervous on how we would be able to try and alter this dress to a more modern design but still maintain the integrity of it's characteristics through the generations.

Widad was the perfect fit! From the first day we went in for our fitting, it was one of the easiest decisions I made to go with her to alter the dress. She had such an appreciation for the fabric, the style, and my hopes for the dress. She quickly provided numerous options on how to make the dress fit my body type keeping in mind it's delicate nature and the modesty necessary for the occasion while acknowledging the hot summer weather. She had expert recommendations on where to obtain additional fabric to match the dress giving specific recommendations on type, finish and style for us to find. She knew the importance of the dress and saved every bit of trimmed fabric so that I could create something special for my sisters as well from the remnants. She really makes a point to get to know you personally and by the time we were finished, she felt like family! I tend to blindly trust people and my mother not as much, but even my mother immediately felt at home and comfortable with Widad. The cost, considering the sentimental value and importance that it be done right the first time, was worth every penny. She even created a bustle in the thin silk fabric that worked perfectly for function without being too obtrusive or apparent. She took the time with my MOH and bridesmaids to ensure that everyone knew exactly what to do to help it be perfect and had practice sessions to be sure that on the day of the wedding it would be as perfect as if she was there doing it!

I just had my final fitting with Widad and I am MORE than satisfied. I live two hours away from Houston, so I was often running late for my appointments with Widad. She was very understanding and cooperative about this. But aside from that, she is very professional, punctual, and passionate about her job. She definitely knows what she is doing and is very trustworthy.
I have nothing but great things to say about working with her and will continue to recommend her to people I know. Well worth the two hour drive!

I took my all lace dress to Widad, and I needed it to be hemmed, taken in, and a sash sewn on. The dress had two layers, and I was extremely nervous that the lace would be ruined in the alteration process. Widad did an excellent job, and completely put my nerves at ease!!!! She was welcoming and so friendly every time I went for a fitting, and never made me worry about how my dress would turn out. My dress ended up fitting absolutely perfectly, and the lace was just as beautiful as it was the day I bought the dress-I know it must have taken Widad forever to take off and re-sew all that lace!!!! The other thing that I loved about Widad was the way she did the bustle on my dress...it never had to be readjusted during my wedding reception, and it completely prevented anyone from stepping on/ripping my dress. Thank you so much for all you did Widad, my dress turned out amazing, and I would recommend you to anyone looking for someone to trust their wedding dress with!!!

I would recommend Widad 100% to absolutely anyone. Her workmanship was superb! The bodice of my dress was solid beading, which made it hard to work with. She made every alteration perfectly, making my dress fit just right. She was wonderful at explaining exactly what she was doing and why, and at giving suggestions on what alterations should be made. She always asked how I felt about what she was about to do as well, just to make sure I was ok with the changes.

Widad was kind, quick to respond and reliable. I would not take a gown to anyone but her because you are guaranteed a quality service!

Widad is amazing! This was my second experience working with her, but my first as a bride. I met Widad about a year ago when I attended my sister-in-law's dress fittings and I could tell that Widad was extremely detail oriented. She is so personable and friendly. I loved both times that I was there and appreciated that she took extra time to make sure that I knew how to properly bustle the dress for my sister-in-law's wedding. Fast forward a year and I became the bride-to-be. I bought my dress in Atlanta at Bridal's By Lori (featured on TLC Say Yes To The Dress: Atlanta), but I needed to get it altered in Houston where the wedding would take place. I was fortunate enough to purchase my dress during a Rivini trunk show and got to personally work with Rivini's Fashion Director. I told him I needed alterations done in Houston and asked if he had any recommendations. He recommended Widad. I knew it was meant to be since I had already met her before. I still did my due diligence and took my dress to three other alterations places before my appointment with Widad, but I am SO glad that I decided to use her.

Widad took my dress that came in too big and made it fit like a glove. It was absolutely perfect! She also perfected my mom's dress by adding some detailing. She was extremely flexible in scheduling appointments that would work with my schedule since I live out of town and went above and beyond to make sure that everything was perfect and on schedule. She even stayed the night at her boutique during some icy weather to make sure that she would be there for her appointments the next day if client's decided to come in town.

My dress and my mom's dress (and one of my bridesmaids and the mother-of-the-groom) turned out fantastic. I would recommended Widad to anybody who needs alterations in Houston!

Widad is extremely skilled at what she does. My wedding gown had tons and tons of layers to be hemmed in addition to extremely delicate lace covering the neck and shoulders that needed to tailored to fit me perfectly. She also created a french bustle that was color-coded (not visible on the outside of the dress, of course) so that my maid of honor would be able to bustle my dress easily after the ceremony. Her handiwork was exquisite. She is a complete perfectionist and takes great pride in her work. I would trust her with the most delicate of wedding gowns. I don't have anything to compare in terms of price, but I can only imagine the countless hours she spent perfecting my gown, so I would say it was worth every penny.

Widad has an amazing story of how she began sewing. It was a story that made me respect her so incredibly much. She is a kind-hearted, genuinely caring woman who wants to do everything possible to give her brides their dream fit wedding dress! Widad altered my grandmother's wedding dress from 1957 for my wedding. The dress wouldn't even zip up halfway and was about an inch too short on me. We didn't know what could be done because the dress was so old and the lace on the dress isn't made anymore, but Widad fixed all our problems and more! She is a creative genius and an absolute pleasure to work with. I have no doubt she is the best in Houston when it comes to wedding dress alterations, especially for vintage gowns.

Widad altered my daughter's dress. She did an amazing job with the french bustle on a huge train--Also she was very reassuring at the fittings, especially when my daughter fainted! I bought my dress at a sample sale. Because it was several sizes too big and several inches too long, it needed significant alterations.

Widad came highly recommended, and her work exceeded my expectations! She listened to my concerns and provided excellent recommendations. She had very flexible scheduling, and on top of that she was so friendly and professional. I was very happy with the way everything came out.

Widad is such a sweet lady and so easy to work with. She worked miracles with my daughter's dress - even though it was custom ordered it needed quite a bit of work to make the strapless bodice fit and Widad made it fit perfectly! I am thrilled about my experience working with Widad on my wedding gown alterations. From start to finish, I felt like I was in the hands of a fantastic seamstress. Widad is such a professional and performed a beautiful job. I had several requests for my dress such as:

- I wanted the sides of the gown by the hips tighter
- Needed a bustle
- Taken up in the front for walking room
- Needed to tighten the one-shoulder strap

I am fastidious (especially when it came to my wedding gown) but I felt at ease after my first meeting with Widad. Listening to how she spoke about all of my requests made me feel like she would execute the changes the best way possible. And I couldn't be more right. The first time I went back in after the alterations, I tried on the dress and it was a perfect fit. There was no need for further changes. At that point I couldn't be happier. During the same appointment, we talked about a veil and she agreed to create a custom silk veil for me to my exact specifications and in a color that matched my dress. Once completed I went back to try on the veil and again, perfection.

This past Saturday I finally picked up my dress and as promised it was pressed along with my veil and looking absolutely BEAUTIFUL! She had it hanging like a piece of artwork when I walked in and I cannot tell you how excited I felt.

I realize Widad sees many brides every week. But you would never know it. She truly cares about you, your wedding, and your dress as an individual. Her enthusiasm is genuine and that just added a special touch to everything. Overall, I had an A+ experience and I would recommend Widad to all of my friends and family knowing that she would not disappoint. Can't thank you enough for the beautiful job Widad. Thank you :)

Widad saved my life! Okay, well, not my life, but she certainly saved me from the very expensive headache of replacing my wedding gown. I had my first alterations done at the same store that I bought my dress, only to have the neckline completely botched, an extremely uneven hemline (uneven by 2-3 inches in adjacent areas), and a bustle that was inappropriate for the dress. Widad spent 90 minutes with me at my first fitting with her and was able to fix the neckline (that was nearly un-fixable, but Widad is a miracle worker!), hemmed my dress appropriately, and created a custom bustle for me that hangs beautifully on my dress. Overall, Widad was incredible and extremely professional and put all of my worries at ease, I would highly recommend her! I know that my bridesmaids that live in Houston will be using her for all of their dress alterations for the wedding.

Widad has been an absolute dream to work with. With Priscilla of Boston closing, I was worried that I would not be able to find a seamstress who could alter my bridal gown to my liking. When I found Widad through referrals I really lucked out.
Widad is passionate about what she does and it clearly shows in her work. She patiently listened to all of my concerns about the state my dress was in and offered thoughtful solutions that worked for me. She perfectly altered my size 12 dress to a size 6. She also crafted cap sleeves using tulle to match the dress exactly. She worked diligently, efficiently and tirelessly to make sure I was happy with the alterations and went the extra mile to ensure we would have no issues on the wedding day. Widad helped me stick to a realistic timeline and met all the deadlines for the dress alterations. I was always able to get in touch with her directly/right away which was a major issue I was having with other vendors I have been working with.
I could not believe some of the work she was doing in her shop. She is an artist and I highly recommend her to any bride. Widad is a perfect match for any bride looking for high-end alterations. It is nice to find a seamstress that you trust…

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I went in with my mother (the bride) and my sister (the other bridesmaid with a different dress) to get my bridesmaid dress fitted properly. Before I met with Widad, the only thing I really loved about my dress was the color. I felt the silhouette was more or less unflattering, especially around the waist. I told Widad the complaints I had with the dress and asked her to add halter straps (it was a strapless and I wanted to be able to dance freely at the reception.) She gave me her professional opinion about options for a more fitted-waist look. I was skeptical it could be made to fit my body, but lo and behold, when we returned for the second fitting it looked fantastic! I was blown away. The waist tapered in nicely and the two carefully placed halter straps gave me support without taking any of the gracefulness away from the dress. Needless to say, I was incredibly impressed with her work. She is currently altering another one of my formals and I can't wait to see how it will look! For those looking for superior alterations, Widad's your woman.

Widad is an incredible seamstress. She took a wedding gown that was a size 10 and perfectly altered it to fit my petite 0 body. The dress was originally strapless but I really preferred adding something to cover my shoulders in church so she created special off the shoulder straps in an identical fabric that work beautifully with the design of my dress. The gown has a lovely low-cut back and the way Widad attached the straps was very much in keeping with the way the back was cut. I would highly recommend Widad for all alterations. I will definitely go back to her, especially with special projects. I know I can trust her work. AND she is very, very easy to deal with! What a relief to find someone calm and low-key, especially when I am already stressed out with wedding details!

My mother is getting married June 23, 2012, and has used Widad for all her alterations, including the bridesmaid dresses. Widad has gone above and beyond the call of duty. She is a masterful seamstress and consummate professional. She completely remade my mother's wedding dress, and she has both designed and subsequently created additions to her dress to suit my mother's personality and desires. When my sister and I saw her for the first time in her dress, we were blown away! There is a reason Widad has such great reviews. Although pricey, she is less than what you would pay to re-do your dress should you have a disaster elsewhere and well worth the money. If you want to look and feel beautiful, go to Widad. She is very organized and helps you to figure out when to do each fitting relative to your wedding. She patiently pinned my 20+ layer dress twice (two different fittings) so that I would glide above the ground. Widad also created my veil and fixed the back of my dress to fit my height (a lacy illusion number that required a lot of careful effort to re-create). She even put my mom in her place when arguing over the correct way to do a bustle (Widad was correct!). In the end, my dress fit like a glove and looked like it had been custom made to my body. Everyone said I glowed and I know much of that was due to how beautiful I felt in my dress thanks to Widad's amazing work.
Widad even went above and beyond to rescue my maid of honor's dress hemline last minute after being done incorrectly by another tailor.
I was entertained by the stories of her life and highly recommend getting to know her as you might learn a thing of two. I recommend paying in cash. Going to Widad was one of the best decisions I made in wedding planning as I never had to worry about my dress after the initial fitting.

Widad did a fantastic job altering my wedding gown. I ordered a Catherine Deane gown from BHLDN and needed a few minor alterations to the length and shoulders, as well as to have a custom bustle made so the train wouldn't get trampled during reception dancing. Widad was so kind, helpful, and very quick in completing the work on my dress. I could tell she cared deeply about taking care of her customers and took it seriously when I entrusted my wedding gown to her. In the end, the alterations and bustle turned out perfectly and the gown fit like a dream!
My mom also had her MOH dress altered by Widad, and she did a beautiful job (including removing a scalloped lace hem, shortening the dress length, and replacing the hem) with that as well. Thank you, Widad!

Widad is 100% professional. She's easy to work with, funny, very helpful and understands exactly what goes into wedding dresses. She did a wonderful hem and a 28 point french bustle for my dress. It looked AMAZING! It also cost quite a bit - more than I wanted to pay. However, never once was I worried about any of her work. She was also willing to show me all my bustle options till I found one that I really loved. She stands by everything 100%. So for the peace of mind, I was willing to pay the $25/point on the bustle. Widad is amazing! You will not find a better tailor for your wedding dress in Houston. She is so knowledgeable and precise, and I loved working with her. I got my dress hemmed and added a bustle, and the whole process took about two months (three total fittings). At the last fitting, Widad was kind enough to practice bustling the dress with my mom several times, and she even filmed a video for us to use on the wedding day in case we had any issues (we didn’t!). The tailoring was immaculate – I got so many compliments on how well the dress fit! Her prices are on the expensive side, but it’s totally worth it for her experience and the quality of her work.

Widad is a wonderful seamstress. I have just recently moved to Texas and I picked my tailor based on reviews on Wedding Wire. I am so glad I did! My dress fit me absolutely perfectly (though after dinner it was a bit tight!) and everyone asked me who altered my dress at the wedding. The bustle was perfect and so easy to put up. Widad took an already beautiful dress and made it absolutely breathtaking. She had a lot of helpful advice and even allowed me to film her tying my bustle so I could show it to my bridesmaids who all live back home. The cost of the alterations were expensive, but so well worth it. Widad listened to me, made me feel comfortable, and made my dress absolutely perfect.

I used Widad for wedding dress alterations. She was the only alteration vendor I could find that that didn’t have any bad reviews. I didn’t want my dress to be ruined a few days before the wedding, and seeing even just a few bad reviews sprinkled into many good reviews for other vendors made me hesitant. Since Widad didn’t have any bad reviews, I thought I couldn’t go wrong with her! I met with her 3 times, we did a 1st dress fitting, and when I went in, it turned out that I needed more alterations that I thought. The dress was slightly long on me, but I didn’t think it needed to be hemmed since it wasn’t so long that I’d be stepping on it. However, the top layer is lace, and Widad pointed out that even if I didn’t step on it, if it was a little long, someone else might step on it, and because of the material, it would shred. I was glad to have her expertise, because having my dress shred during my wedding would’ve been devastating! My dress didn’t have a bustle built into it, so she did that as an alteration, and the straps were too long, so she fixed that as well. After the 1st fitting where she pinned my dress so she knew where to make the alterations, I went in for a 2nd fitting. She had finished some of the alterations, but not all, which was good because the length needed to be adjusted a bit from where she originally marked it. At the last fitting, I brought my sisters so she could show them how to do the bustle. I was overly pleased with how beautiful the dress looked bustled. And at my last fitting, everything fit perfectly! Widad also gave me a recommendation for who to take my dress to for cleaning, which I haven’t done yet, but it was really nice to have the recommendation of someone I had already trusted with my dress. Widad is a bit more expensive than I was anticipating, the alterations ended up costing more than the dress cost, but it was worth it to me to not have to worry about someone screwing up my dress at the last minute. She did a great job!

Expensive, but worth it! Widad is so careful and meticulous, and you can tell that she cares a lot about the quality of her work. Rather than taking a “one and done” approach, Widad would adjust and redo pins during my fittings until she was absolutely satisfied with how the dress looked. The bustle on my dress looked amazing (and my day of coordinator commented that Widad’s color coding made it so easy to bustle the dress).

Widad really did a fantastic job in tailoring my gown and providing great explanations whenever I had questions. She is such a talented seamstress as noted by her work history and reputation in town. I would not have taken my dress anywhere else. I would have given the complete 5 stars, but am unaware of the value of what tailoring would ultimately cost as I only took my wedding gown to her. Widad was such a great seamstress! She did an amazing job with my Martina Liana wedding gown. I had many compliments on the bustle and on the fit of the dress. The price of alterations really surprised me, but I felt like I had no choice because who else could I trust with such an expensive dress. Do expect to pay about 1/3 of what you paid for your dress on alterations so think carefully before you purchase a gown!! Also, expect to drop about a size a couple of days before your wedding. Widad was concerned on making it too tight, but I think this might be the safest route to take because my dress came unhooked three times during my reception because it was too loose, which was frustrating. If you feel it's too loose, then have her tighten it some more regardless of what the suggestions are. Other than that, Widad was very professional and helpful. She's the expert that you can trust your beautiful gown with for sure.

I used Widad's Couture Alterations to alter my wedding dress. The results were stunning, and I'm very pleased I used this company. Widad made me feel very comfortable and did everything to make me happy. My dress was taken in flawlessly even though it is elaborately detailed. She also helped select a bustle for me, and it was perfect. I liked the dress just as much bustled as I did with the train. It was a little hard to set a time for my appointments, but Widad worked around it the best she could. I won't lie, alterations are expensive, especially for a wedding dress. I paid a pretty penny, but I think that is to be expected. If you want a very professional, expert tailor, use Widad's. Your dress will be in the best of hands.

Widad provided alterations services for my wedding dress, including alterations to the hem and bodice, adding a bustle, and tacking on a belt. I met with her three times over as many months, and she was simply a joy to work with. Even in spite of difficult times in her personal life, she was incredibly professional, always had my dress ready on time, and was really helpful in making sure I got the exact look I wanted on my wedding day. The only reason I did not give her a perfect 5.0 is that her prices are a bit steep for what I paid for my dress initially, but I was so happy I put my confidence in her services and came away with a gorgeous gown that fit like a glove! Thank you Widad!

My dress didn't need much alteration, just length and making a bit smaller. My dress was all lace and I was concerned that the top portion which was also lace would stretch throughout the night and make the dress too long but Widad assured me that would not happen.

Well immediately after my ceremony before my husband and I were going to enter and do our first dance I realized the dress was about 1 to 2 inches too long from having simply lengthened from me standing for a long time. Thank goodness for my party planner who was able to literally safety pin my dress the 2 inches needed so I wouldn't be stepping on it all night.

It's really disappointing to have spent so much money on a dress, have Widad charge an insane amount of money for what had to be done, and then have to have my wedding dress safety pinned for the duration of my wedding. Even after it was pinned as I was dancing on the dance floor I had to hold the bottom in my hands so I wouldn't step on it the entire night.

Widad is extremely nice and according to other reviews and really the rest of my dress good at her job, but when I expressed this concern she brushed it off and I believed her. It's just upsetting to have had the experience I did after the mass amount of money I paid to have the perfect dress.
