As you make your decision for entertainment for your wedding or special event, look no further than Varsity Rock DJ. Michael Scott Bates is a talented musician and singer whose musical gifting greatly enhanced my wedding reception at the Silver Cloud Hotel Point Ruston. Michael opened the reception by serenading the Couples’ “First Dance,” and then gave a 1 hour live performance during our dinner hour. Michael performed a wide musical selection ranging from Country, Indie Rock to Reggae. He was very responsive to my texts and emails and always responded in a timely manner. I still have wedding guests telling me how much they enjoyed Michael’s performance and the songs that kept folks returning to the dance floor. I highly recommend Varsity Rock; you WON’T be disappointed! -

Five out of five stars, we would recommend Michael to anyone looking for a friendly and professional DJ. He executed our vision well! Our ceremony was outdoors and had a live musician (harpist), Michael did a great job, setting up the audio, even though there was lots of background noise (traffic from a busy road).
Similarly, after we switched locations to the reception space, his music choices and audio setup were great for the ceremony, the music was great for cocktail hour, the dancing went smoothly, thinks it was DJing skill. -

Extremely Disappointed – Would Never Recommend Varsity Rock
I’m heartbroken to have to write this, but I feel it’s important to warn others. I hired Varsity Rock for one of the most important days of my life—my wedding—and they played the wrong song as I walked down the aisle. This was my absolute worst nightmare come true, and instead of creating a meaningful, emotional moment, it completely threw off the experience I had dreamed about for so long.
When I addressed the issue with them afterward, hoping they would acknowledge the mistake and offer a reasonable resolution, they simply offered me 10% off the next time I hire them. Why would I ever hire them again after they mishandled something so personal and significant? That response felt insulting and dismissive—not the kind of accountability or care I’d expect from a professional vendor. Seems money hungry and in senstive. I am a professional myself, you fix your mistakes.
This experience was incredibly disappointing. It came across as money-driven rather than service-driven, and I genuinely regret trusting them with such a meaningful moment. Please—don’t hire Varsity Rock. I wouldn’t wish this experience on any other couple.
