The whole Valley Road Vineyards team (especially Barbara, Stan, and Ester) were amazing to work with from start to finish. Out of all the vineyards we toured in the area, VRV’s event space felt very intentional (essentially not an afterthought) for a wedding. We had a wedding of ~70 guests in October, and the event space layout made the flow of ceremony to cocktail hour to reception very natural/seamless. Some of our guests had mobility disabilities, and Barbara emphasized how important it was to have the venue be accessible and help those guests. Additionally, though it didn’t rain on our actual day, we loved the rain contingency plan within The Barn because it still gave us/guests the opportunity to admire the vineyard’s beautiful scenery. The views of the valley/mountains from Valley Road Vineyards are gorgeous, and our guests complimented the area and wines throughout our wedding day! Also, the sunset is STUNNING at the venue. During the initial venue tour, Barbara did an excellent job showing us the spaces, giving us time to enjoy the wines and discuss questions/concerns, and was honestly just a joy to interact with. As a queer couple, we felt welcomed by the entire staff. Throughout the entire planning process, Barbara was very quick to respond to any questions we had, flexible to what our needs were, and extremely helpful. We had our wedding at Valley Road Vineyards in May 2025 and had an excellent experience from start to finish.
We toured several wineries in the area, and Valley Road stood out for several reasons. The venue and scenery are gorgeous, the prices are very reasonable for the area, and their wine was the best we tried.
The ceremony lawn has an incredible mountain view, and the reception barn spaces, inside and out, felt welcoming and well-designed. With the natural beauty of the property and the ambiance created by the string lights in the evening, we didn’t have to spend as much on extra decor or florals to get the feeling we wanted. The getting-ready areas (the groom’s lodge and bridal loft) were both very comfortable and made for great photos.
We were very impressed with the VRV team. Barbara was a complete rockstar! She was organized, responsive, and helpful throughout the whole planning process, which we did from out of state. She, Stan, and the rest of the team clearly care a lot about what they do, and it shows in every detail.
On the wedding day itself, Ben and Esther handled everything smoothly and kept things running on schedule. Ben was awesome to work with. He was prepared and engaged the whole time, and had a great friendly energy which helped set the right tone for the day. The whole day felt like a fairytale because everything was so beautiful and went so smoothly. One of our favorite memories of the day was being able to ride up into the vineyard for some photos and getting to pause for a moment to take in the stunning mountain views together.
Overall, we were really happy with our decision and would recommend Valley Road Vineyards to anyone looking for a beautiful venue with a team that you’ll feel confident in! -

Barbara was very responsive and incredibly flexible and understanding when working with her for my wedding. She was always willing to go the extra mile for me, my husband, our family, and our wedding party. I genuinely had nothing to worry about on my wedding day because she made me feel so confident that she was going to make everything perfect for us. I cannot say enough good things about the service and venue within itself. From stunning views to amazing set ups, everything was picture perfect! Even when a surprise, massive rainstorm came in the middle of the reception, Barbara handled everything, kept everything going smoothly, and most importantly kept everyone dry! Forever grateful for Valley Road Vineyards and Barbara! -

10/10 Recommend this Hidden Gem of a Venue!!!
My husband and I got married at Valley Road a couple of weeks ago, and if we could, we would give them 11/10 stars! The venue is gorgeous, and the staff were so kind and helpful throughout the entire planning process. Barbara made the planning process so much easier and always responded to our emails quickly and efficiently! Ben, our point of contact day of, was incredibly kind and helpful as well! Not to mention, the wine is phenomenal!
Valley Road Vineyards is a true hidden gem with stunning views, fantastic wine, and lovely staff members. We would recommend VRV to any couple searching for their dream venue and to anyone looking for a delightful winery experience in the Afton area! -

Valley road vineyards was truly the best wedding venue! We toured about 10 other venues before touring valley road and once we saw valley road we knew it was perfect for us. The views of the vineyard, mountains, and lake are gorgeous at Valley Road Vineyards. The reception barn is also incredible and versatile. The sliding barn doors are great for cocktail hour transitions and there’s a great patch a grass on one side of the barn that’s perfect for food trucks (we had Rookies and it fit great there).
We had our rehearsal dinner at Valley Road Vineyards and we loved the space for that too!
Barbara and her team were also incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the process. I think a super unique aspect of their team is they offer couples the opportunity to go into the vineyard together during cocktail hours to take pictures which I 10/10 recommend (some of our favorite pictures from the day are in the vineyards).
Our family and friends still talk about how pretty the venue was and also how great their wine is! -

We are so glad we picked Valley Road Vineyard for our wedding venue. From start to finish, our experience with Barbara was excellent. The venue itself is stunning – the vines, mountains, and barn are gorgeous. Every detail of the facilities at Valley Road allowed for a wonderful atmosphere for our special day. We had to move our wedding inside and the indoor rain option at Valley Road is just as beautiful as the outdoor option. Additionally, the ability for the bride to get ready in the venue’s bridal suite and the groom to get ready in a separate groom’s suite was a huge selling point for us. Our favorite part of our wedding was our first look in the vines. We could have stayed in those vines forever!
We love that we can go back to the vineyard any time we want, drink wine and remember our special day. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate our wedding. We are so grateful for the unforgettable memories and would recommend Valley Road Vineyard to anyone looking to make their wedding day truly extraordinary.Valley Road Vineyards's reply:

A Magical Fall Wedding
My husband and I loved our experience with VRV as our wedding venue.
From the jump, we loved meeting with Barbara. The day we went venue shopping, we had a number of experiences in the area where we just felt like a number and they truly didn't care about us or getting our business. Barbara was genuinely interested in getting to know us as a couple and we felt cared for and valued. In an area where the wedding industry can be a machine, we felt like people - and more than that, family.
The wedding itself was intimate, accommodating, scenic, and everything we would have wanted. Barbara was amazing to work with, as we figured she would be from our amazing first meeting. We really appreciate her for being flexible and accommodating as plans came together and changed leading up to the wedding. In an industry of potentially flakey vendors, VRV/Barbara were extremely helpful in being the glue to hold everything together and keep things moving forward. I also want to give a big shout out to Ben who was the lead organizer for the venue on the wedding day and he was terrific; our grandmas, who needed to be escorted around via golf cart at times, seemed to have the best time and had a constant smile on their face in Ben's company.
I also must mention the pure beauty of the venue. My husband and I got married in late October and the trees could not have been more beautiful. The site of the ceremony was stunninh with the mountain backdrop and the barn had a magical feel in the Fall as it turned from day to night. Also the opportunity for the couple to go up to the top of the mountain for pictures was every bit as awesome as I thought it would be.
Overall, if I could give the venue 10 stars here, I would. Could not recommend enough. -

When my husband and I started visiting vineyards in Virginia, Valley Road was our first stop. We both knew immediately that any additional venue would have some VERY large shoes to fill, and we were right. Nothing compared to the beautiful landscaping and views, the immediate feeling of comfort and home as if your parents used to sip wine there while you played among the laughter and cheer of other visitors - not to mention the DELICIOUS wine. To this day, any other vineyard I visit has not been able to serve up a better Sauvignon Blanc.
Barbara had us hooked from our first greeting and still welcomes me with open arms each time i visit. It really shows that they aren't just holding another event but truly invested in your experience. I was (and still am!) so proud to show my friends and family our chosen wedding venue and every time we arrived, Barbara would smile and say "it's all open for you, have fun!" and made us feel like insiders to an elite club.
We were blessed to have so many great vendors (who ALL came from a recommendation list Barbara provided!!) but the venue was truly the foundation for our perfect day.
I look forward to visiting again and know i'll be greeted with warm smiles and the perfect pour.

My husband and I got married at Valley Road Vineyards in September and truly had the most incredible experience! From the moment that we reached out with our initial inquiry, Barbara, Stan, and their team were amazingly responsive and ready to help with any questions or needs. Planning with them was truly a seamless progress. The wedding itself was the absolute best day of our lives! The getting ready area was spacious and perfect for our group. The ceremony lawn, photo spots, deck, and reception areas were absolutely gorgeous. We had the most amazing time with our guests and will remember our wedding forever! Dream Venue
We came across Valley Road while searching for a wedding venue and boy, are we glad we found them! We knew immediately upon visiting that this was the place for us. From the stunning views of the mountains to the dedicated, climate controlled reception and getting ready areas, it was the perfect venue for our wedding. Barb and the rest of the VRV team made sure our day was seamless and accommodated our requests. To top it off, their wine is spectacular, we received many positive reviews from our guests on the wine taste. The venue was also ideal as it has an area to host a rehearsal dinner the night before. Want a perfect wedding? Use Valley Road Vineyards. Barbara, one of the owners at Valley Road Vineyards makes the wedding experience smooth and perfect - the exact things you need on your wedding day! Not only is Valley Road a gorgeous winery with their picturesque view of a glass-like lake with the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains behind it, but they have a beautiful, high-vaulted-ceiling barn with sliding barn doors for your guests to continue enjoying the view during your wedding!
Getting ready in their Bridal Loft couldn't be more comforting and easy. It's the quintessential design with comfy and the most beautiful, soft furnishings. Your 'getting-ready' pictures will be on point in this bright, yet warm space. It has large windows that allow you to either enjoy the view or look down below as guests arrive and check in on the status of the on-goings!
The Gentlemen's Lodge, while I wasn't in there the day of, was especially enjoyed by my husband and his buddies. It is masculine and resembles a fancy, exemplary man retreat/manspace/man cave - just exactly the way everyone wishes their own looked!
The vineyard photographs at sunset, if you have an evening wedding, will be timed just right. Barbara writes down the time of sunset in her planner for everyday! Now how's that for some forethought!?
Ah - and I can't leave out they have the BEST WINE EVER! I love their wine. Love it. LOOOVE it. Your guest's - whether they are red or white drinkers - VRV has a special touch when it comes to growing and making their wine. Stan, Barbara's husband will be around and that's rare to see your owners on site and caring so much about everyday processes out in the open - my wedding photographer said as much. She said, "I've never seen the owner's on-site as involved and caring the way Barbara and Stan are." And she's been to a LOT of weddings.
It's so true, they make everything extra special and will have you feeling like part of the family! Now, go with haste, and book your wedding at Valley Road Vineyards! -

So beautiful
The sights from Valley Road Vineyards are unbeatable, no matter the weather! Our wedding, planned scheduled months in advance, landed right when a tropical storm was passing through! Luckily for us, Valley Road Vineyards had the space for a last second indoor wedding. The views of were still so gorgeous from indoors, and we were given a voucher to return for pictures in the vineyard next Spring. Stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the adjacent lake from both the lawn ceremony site, as well as the reception location which also functions as the alternative 'rain plan' ceremony location. The 'getting ready' areas for the groomsmen (The Lodge) and the bridesmaids (The Loft) were spacious, photogenic, and provided a great comfortable space for everyone while preparing for the ceremony. The reception and cocktail hour location provided the perfect combination of both indoor and outdoor space for comfort in most weather.
Barbara, Stan, and the staff at Valley Road were all friendly and professional from our first visit to tour the venue through to our wedding day. We planned our wedding from out of state, and the communication and responsiveness of Barb and the rest of the staff left us feeling assured that our wedding day would proceed without any issue. They provided detailed information about the venue and the furnishings available along with a long list of recommended vendors familiar with the venue that we used to source the majority of our vendors.Valley Road Vineyards's reply:

When looking for a wedding venue, as soon as we entered Valley Road Vineyards, we knew it was the one! From the stunning back drop to the beautiful barn, this is the place for a beautiful wedding. Barbara, Stan, and Ben were so helpful from the beginning stages of planning to everything on our big day! We had many unexpected changes due to rain on our day, and they all helped to ensure everything went smoothly. We even buried a bottle of bourbon a month before and Ben went out in the rain to dig it up for us!! Our pictures so far have been STUNNING! All of our guests shared how wonderful the venue was. I can not thank Valley Road Vineyards enough for being a part of our big day. Valley Road Vineyard was the PERFECT venue for our special day! From the moment my fiancé and I toured Valley Road with Barbara, we just had a feeling it was our venue. Barbara and her husband Stan were a great help when it came to planning our big day. Barbara answered all of our questions during the venue tour and also stood out to us because of the way she really made an effort to get to know us as a couple. We felt we were in good hands! The price to hold a wedding at Valley Road is very reasonable and the venue is absolutely GORGEOUS! The barn that we had the reception in was the perfect size and we loved the open layout as well as the rustic decor including wine barrel bar tables! One of my favorite parts of the venue was the beautiful bridal suite! There is also a separate little barn for the Groomsmen suite which was perfect. We had the ceremony outside in front of the vines- talk about beautiful!! Barbara and the rest of the VRV team were amazing when it came to transforming the ceremony space into the perfect place for us to say "I do." :) I can't help but to look back at the photos in awe! Many of our guests commented on the beauty of the mountain and vineyard views. A highlight was driving up to the TOP of the vineyard with our photographer after the ceremony to get some romantic sunset photos. The view from up there is spectacular and made for a special moment from our wedding day that I will never forget! The barn was the perfect place for all the dancing and celebrating that came after. :) I can't say enough about how amazing our wedding day was thanks to Valley Road! Barbara was quick to communicate with us throughout our wedding planning process, and kept us calm when any stress came about! I assure you that if you choose VRV for your wedding venue.. you will be in good hands. :) On the wedding day we received a very thoughtful gift basket from the staff at VRV. :) My now husband and I are members of the Valley Road wine club and now consider Barbara, Stan, and the rest of the VRV staff to be part of our lives! We love Valley Road and look forward to coming back time and time again to taste the wine and enjoy reminiscing on our beautiful day. Thank you Valley Road!

We booked my daughter’s Sunday wedding celebration with Valley Road Vineyards only 6 months out from her wedding date due to a disagreement with a prior venue. THE BEST DECISION WE EVER MADE. From the get-go Valley Road’s Director of Marketing and co-owner, Barbara Joynes, took great care of us. Calm demeanor, outstanding communication, organization, and flexibility….we were in expert hands. Barbara and her husband Stan, the resident wine guru, met with the LA-based bride and groom for the first time two days before the wedding to pick out wine for the wedding day, as well as general wine shop talk. The bride and groom were delighted to finally meet Barbara and Stan and were really excited about the wine selections. The venue itself was perfect for our needs, reasonably priced, and convenient to Charlottesville, in Afton VA. They have clearly invested a lot of thought/energy/money into making it not only a lovely event venue, but also a wonderful place to stop for a delicious glass/bottle of wine and gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Bride’s loft in the event barn was perfectly appointed, with a killer mountain view, as was the Groom’s lodge near the ceremony site. The event barn with its deck was spacious and on a beautiful September evening many of our guests were able to dine outside. The front dining room of the barn is open on three sides so even those dining inside enjoyed the fresh air…a must have during Covid. There were a number of areas available for the ceremony site, and they had a solid rain plan. There were lots of lovely touches (stringed lighting, wine barrels for flower arrangements, wine barrel tables, lanterns, rustic high-tops, etc.) that really added to the charm of the venue. If wedding photographs are important to you, as they were to my daughter, there was no shortage of scenic spots for pictures. I cannot recommend Valley Road Vineyards enough…Valley Road Vineyards's reply:

I can finally get through my review without crying tears of happiness! So many feels being a 2020 bride that had to reschedule her big wedding, but the Valley Road team became like family through it all and it turned into the most epic wedding that we couldn't have even dreamed of. If you're looking for amazing views, wines, a fantastic venue and staff, look no further. They made our vow renewal feel like the first time and even beyond that. The reception barn is the perfect blend of rustic and elegance. The getting ready spaces for the bride and groom are wonderful. All of the improvements to the property just enhanced the whole experience. The ceremony lawn with breathtaking views of the vines, mountains and even a large pond. Our guests loved the location and having the lawn to play yard games, the deck and plenty of room in the interior made for a wonderful time for all of our friends and family. So happy that we can visit and relive all of the special memories we had that day and always be greeted with a warm welcome from our Valley Roads family! Barbara at Valley Roads was so easy to work with. They have a terrific layout with multiple locations for a scenic ceremony with several backdrops. The property also has a bridal prep suite, a groomsmen's prep house and an awesome 'barn' with a beautiful lawn for an indoor, outdoor or combined reception. It provided exceptional flexibility for inclement weather. Barbara also recommended an terrific wedding coordinator (Hannah Dubit) who worked seamlesly with Barbara to accomodate our vision. Barbara also provided two different walk throughs with the coordinator to cover any details. The price and amenities that Valley Roads provided were exceptional compared to other venues we looked at. I would definitely recommend them. First class customer service and value. Lastly, after planning this special occasion over several months, my husband and I were so impressed with Barbara and Valley Road, and we will continue to enjoy their wines and hospitality in the future.Valley Road Vineyards's reply:

Would get married all over again here if we could!
Barbara at VRV was nothing short of amazing. Planning a wedding during COVID was difficult but her communication, professionalism, and friendly attitude made things so much easier. The venue had several accommodations for rain, guests, and vendors. Even down to the final hour before the wedding Barbara & VRV were there to make sure we had everything we needed! My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner and wedding at this venue on Oct 24. From start to finish, the staff were super easy to communicate with and very accommodating. The venue is absolutely beautiful and offers three different spaces where you can host your event. They will even take you to the top of the vineyard to take pictures with the views of the mountains in the background (which are absolutely stunning). I wish we could get married there all over again! I would definitely recommend this beautiful spot for other couples!Valley Road Vineyards's reply:

Beautiful Venue with Amazing Staff
My husband and I got married at Valley Road Vineyards in September and had a fabulous experience. The vineyard is nestled at the bottom of a gorgeous mountain with beautiful views. The ceremony spot overlooks the mountain and a cute pond. The large, red barn makes a statement and the inside is all white and clean. The wrap around deck on the barn with bistro lighting looks amazing at night. Barbara and Stan and their team were prompt with responses to our questions and extremely personable. Anytime we came to visit, they recognized us and took the time to get to know us. We had our rehearsal dinner in the tasting room and guests couldn't stop commenting on how beautiful and picturesque the evening was. Our plan was to get married outside, but it's 2020 so of course it rained. Sarah and her team helped us pivot to having the entire wedding in the barn and it turned out amazing. Guests could not stop talking about how beautiful the interior of the barn was. Sarah, Barbara, Stan, and every other staff member at Valley Road went above and beyond to make sure our wedding was safe for our guests, and that all of our wants and needs were met. I cannot say enough good things about this venue and their staff. We booked this venue for our rehearsal dinner for about 60 guests about 1 1/2 months out due to another local venue canceling on us last minute. We had to pull things together quickly due to the venue change, but they made that seem seamless. They even worked with my food truck to be sure they had everything they needed the day of. It poured rain, but they had plenty of covered outdoor space that it wasn't a problem. Everyone commented on how beautiful the venue was and how good the wine was. They are helpful, responsive, and I recommend them to anyone looking for a venue for any kind of event.Valley Road Vineyards's reply:

We had many doubts about our “COVID Wedding” going smoothly months before our big day on August 22, 2020. Sarah at Valley Road Vineyards helped us through all of our concerning points, big or small, with no sense of seeming troubled by tasks she may have never even thought about being a thought or issue when she went into this business. Our day was beyond amazing. As all wedding days are quite a whirlwind, all parts of the day went very smoothly and seamlessly, and safe! What a bonus that this venue is on some of the most beautiful land with stunning views; rain or shine. I would recommend Sarah and her team at Valley Road Vineyards 100 percent. Planning a COVID wedding was nothing short of stressful, but we are so glad we had the pleasure of working with Valley Road to pull the day together. Their service and professionalism throughout the whole process was impeccable and helped the planning process go as smoothly as possible. They accommodated everything we needed, adapting to changing numbers and social distancing guidelines. Valley Road is a newer vineyard for the area, but you could never tell based on the experience and attention to detail of the team.
On top of that, their space is STUNNING and gave the most dreamy backdrop to our perfect day - we got so many compliments from in-town and out-of-town guests on the location. We are so grateful to have found this venue and team, and wouldn't have done it any differently if we had to plan it all again.Valley Road Vineyards's reply:

My husband and I booked Valley Road in February 2019 for a June 2020 wedding, which was later postponed to August 2020 due to COVID. The beautiful venue speaks for itself, but we could not have asked for a better experience throughout our 18 months of working with the Valley Road team. When we initially booked the venue, the team was very helpful in answering all of our questions and modifying our contract to fit our needs. We visited several times before our ceremony, and every time they were very welcoming and let us explore the venue to plan for our event. Once COVID hit in early 2020, they were extremely flexible and patient with us as we made decisions to modify our wedding. We ended up having a very intimate ceremony in August; although it was not the wedding we'd planned, it was still our dream wedding - and Valley Road played a large role in this. Stan, Barbara, Sarah and Shawna all made us feel like family and we can't wait to continue to visit Valley Road for many years in the future! Words cannot describe how perfect our wedding was and how grateful we are for Valley Road Vineyards and specifically Sarah, Barbara, and Stan. VRV has everything you are looking for in a venue: perfect location, reasonable prices, amazing wine, good views (sunset, mountains, vineyards), flexibility, and that family feel. They are really invested in making sure everything goes smoothly and treat you as family. We looked at several venues (wineries, breweries, cideries, etc.) in the area and VRV had the best value. They could easily charge double for their venue and their amenities. The bridal loft was the perfect, beautiful, location for getting ready. The groomsmen also enjoyed their suite. We utilized the “library” for our rehearsal dinner which was awesome and made everything so easy! Sarah, the event coordinator, truly goes above and beyond with organizing and looking for those small details no one wants to worry about during the event. She kept everything running smoothly. They do have a preferred vendor list, but were very accommodating to approving other vendors as well. Having our dog present for ring bearer duties was no problem (we did an outdoor ceremony). Basically, everything was easy, stress free, and perfect. Thank you, Valley Road! We truly do think of you as family. 😊Valley Road Vineyards's reply:

Our Blue Ridge Wedding
We were married on September 7, 2019, and our wedding at Valley Road Vineyard was nothing short of unforgettable. Barbara and Stan are a joy to work with. They made us feel so welcome and responded quickly to any of our questions. They made the whole venue experience stress-free. We had looked a few other places early on, but Valley Road’s wine and scenery were exactly what we were looking for.
The setting is spectacular. With the mountains in the background, all our pictures look epic. And the barn was perfect for our reception. We still can’t believe how comfortably it fit our 150 guests, both for dinner and dancing.
All in all, we were very pleased with our Valley Road experience. We highly recommend it for any wedding or event. We’ll definitely be back there to reminisce. And how could we not want some more of that wine?

Our dream wedding!
We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect summer wedding at Valley Road Vineyards. From the mountain views, beautiful private bridal suite and grooms quarters, to the friendly faces of the entire staff and of course the refreshing wine. Our guests loved the wine, especially the Rosé on a summer evening.
Barbara, Stan and the VRV team were an absolute delight to work with. Being new to the wedding process and venue search we didn’t know what to expect but Valley Road was easy to work with and very responsive; they were on top of everything! Barbara was attentive to our vision and answered our millions of questions right away -even from across the world! They took care of every need, worked in tune with all our vendors and acclimated every detail that was important to us. One of the ways they went above and beyond is how excited they were when we told them we wanted to bury a bottle of bourbon at the ceremony site; a southern tradition to bring good weather on our special day. Not only were they just as excited about it as we were, they let us bury it right exactly where we stood when saying our vows! It worked and it made for some really great photos after the ceremony. Of course we can’t forget to mention how great the photos came out at the top of the Vineyard as the sun was setting over the blue ridge mountains. That view can’t be beat!
As every newlywed couple would like to say, it all went off without a hitch!
We still love going back, sitting outside on the deck, having a glass of wine and reminiscing of our special day.
Valley Road Vineyard is family now, we could not recommend them enough!

Perfect day!
We feel so blessed to be the first wedding at Valley Road. The whole process was made easy and Barbara was very flexible with planning and meetings being that I live in FL. They had wonderful response rate and helped make sure every detail of our day was flawless. They even allowed our two dogs to be involved in the celebration!! Cannot say enough good things about Stan & Barbara! If you want a beautiful mountain wedding, this is the place to do it! A family friendly atmosphere and hard working people to help make your wedding day dreams become a reality. & the wine is TOP NOTCH!
