I went to 9 different bridal boutiques looking for my dress. I found that lots of boutiques carry the same thing and their staff just works there. However, Urban Set Bride established the bar and exceeded every other shop I visited. My consultant, Ruth, blew me away. Her passion and joy for her craft, the expertise to create my vision and show me what I was unable to express, the warm environment, and just her as a person truly stood out to me. Ruth is a superstar and truly amazing. Ruth heard my goal of wanting to feel secure and confident in my skin. She guided me to dresses that I actually liked (based on my style) and then adapted to my reactions. She read me like a book and didn’t keep showing me dresses that aren’t me. We played with sleeves, veils, belts, accessories, and gloves. Most importantly Ruth made sure I felt seen and got what I wanted regardless what anyone else liked. Not to mention, the gown selections are like no other boutique. They have gowns for every style and are not cookie cutter. The gowns are truly unique and you will not be disappointed. Lastly, the gowns are price friendly and very high quality. Therefore, I 1000% recommend any bride to visit Urban Set Bride to find their dress. Trust me add them to your visit, you won’t need to go any where else. -

Love my dress, love USB!
Buying my dress at Urban Set was one of the most fun parts of my whole wedding planning process. The shop is by appointment and only takes one appointment at a time, so I felt completely comfortable and taken care of while trying on the dresses. The selection is very carefully curated and the shop has a really wide range of styles and sizes available, so while I went in sort of knowing what I wanted, I still got to try on a variety to really solidify my choice. The stylists are incredibly knowledgeable, and of course just so much FUN (shout out especially to Chelsea and Ruth, but everyone is just delightful). I also really appreciated how low-pressure the experience was. Even though I found my dress at my first appointment, I was encouraged to take a couple days to think it over before committing. My dress was PERFECT and everything I wanted! -

I visited several boutiques before visiting Urban Set. My body shaped has changed over the past several years, so it was becoming quite the process. The dress I pictured simply wasn’t flattering. However, from start to finish, I was satisfied with my experience at Urban Set. I am thankful for the honest, well informed expertise of the staff. I found a dress of a different style and material that was exactly what I was looking for. I had no idea I was so obsessed with bows and buttons! Thank you ladies for running such a well organized shop. (Also, their preferred seamstress, Evelyn, was WONDERFUL! She made my dreams come true!) -

All the people who work here are excellent at what they do. I wouldn't have found my dress if Ruth hadn't pulled it off the rack for me! They were so helpful to me as an out of state bride. Where do I even begin? When I first started looking for dresses back in August of last year, I had just recently moved to Richmond, and was incredibly homesick. Then, to add an event like wedding dress shopping to the mix, which typically included being surrounded by friends and family, felt like adding salt to the wound. But as soon as I stepped into the doors of Urban Set Bride, I knew it would be different. Jennifer made me feel so special and comfortable, and had me leaving feeling in much higher spirits with a gigantic smile on my face. And although I went to a few other places, nothing came close in comparison to the level of service I received at Urban Set Bride. From every person I interacted with, they truly were outstanding from start to finish and in the end, helped me find the most beautiful dress I have ever worn and made me feel so amazing the moment I stepped into it (seriously, if it wasn’t for the 100°+ South Carolina heat, I wouldn’t have taken it off!)
Thank you, Jennifer, Christine, Ruth and Chelsea. What you all do every day is truly amazing and I’m so lucky to have found y’all! -

Shopping for and buying my wedding dress from Urban Set has hands down been the best part of wedding planning! Do yourself a favor and include Urban Set in the shortlist of dress shops to visit.
I wasn’t particularly looking forward to wedding dress shopping as someone who has traditionally been in XL or plus size clothing, I knew bridal sizing wasn’t going to do me any favors. I also was nervous about bridal shops being truly LGBTQ inclusive as I’m marrying another woman and there are many queer folks in my bridal party. But after a few moments in Chelsea’s more than capable and caring hands, all of my fears melted away. This shop has an incredible range of dresses - in terms of styles, sizing, and price points. The experience was stellar. My bridal party and I had the shop to ourselves and it felt like a special time with my favorite people. It was so nice to have privacy and not have strangers looking over. The team at Urban Set consistently got my bridal party’s pronouns right (something which should be a given but did not occur at other shops) and they were great in how they asked me about my wedding and fiancée. I was also so appreciative of how kind and patient the Urban Set team was with me. I ultimately had 3 appointments before ordering my dress. One of the owners, Christine, assisted me in my second appointment. She hyped me up in each dress and did not pressure me to buy a dress that day. She and Chelsea both listened to what I liked about certain dresses, what I did not like, and provided insight on things I may have never thought about. At bottom, I cannot say enough good things about Urban Set and the team there. I am so happy to have bought my dream dress here and cannot wait to wear it on my wedding day! -

This shop and the people who own it are wonderful! Christine's energy and confidence in her craft were exactly what I needed to enjoy the experience and find the perfect dress. She and her team are so lovely and make the process approachable and the space they have created is so welcoming. Their dress selection provides multiple options for every style and all my questions were answered with superior knowledge of the industry. I would recommend Christine and her store over and over again! -

I went in for my first appointment with several options in mind, it came down to two dresses that I needed to try on one last time before deciding and the lady that was helping me offered a brand new dress that had come in… and much to my surprise that random gown she thought I would like became my dress! It was a wonderful experience and my dress came in after being ordered fitting as close to perfect as possible! I barely needed any alterations, only a little bit cut at the bottom. I highly recommend supporting this small business!! -

Amazing Bridal Boutique!
I looked at several other places before coming to Urban Set Bride to find a wedding gown! Not only did I find the perfect dress, but literally everything I tried on was absolutely beautiful! Would definitely recommend Urban Set for any bride wanting to find HER dress! -

I found my dream dress and veil at Urban Set Bride and loved every second of the process! We had so much fun at the try on appointment, they were so patient with me and let me really take my time. I was allowed to touch the dresses/take photos and pick the ones I wanted to try and the women also pulled dresses I hadn't seen. It was a zero stress experience and I was so thankful! At the end of the first appointment, I wasn't sure and they actually encouraged me NOT to make a decision that first day! (This is after I went to other stores and they told me that it would cost me $30 if I wanted to come back.) The peace of mind to take my time and not be rushed into a decision was such a gift! They were so easy to work with and made me feel so confident. I would recommend (and DO recommend) Urban Set to anyone in Richmond or beyond who is looking for a dress. They have an amazing selection and they don't ever pressure you! They even ask you your budget and actually stick to your budget when pulling dresses. ALSO the prices of the dresses that they stock are so much better than other places I looked at without any drop in quality!!! (Oh and if you have to get it altered they have a list of recommended seamstresses that are all incredible but, GO TO CHARLA SHE IS AMAZING) -

Finding my dress at Urban Set has been the best part of my wedding planning experience thus far! I was so happy that my sister-in-law and Mom were able to be there and help me "say yes to the dress" back in July. Christine made me feel so comfortable and helped make the experience so celebratory and fun for all of us! As we were going through the collection and commenting on what we liked about each dress, Christine was casually observing and making mental notes about our comments so that she knew exactly what we were looking for! I loved supporting their women-owned business so much that I went back there a few months later to get my veil too. Thank you for all that you do to make your brides feel special!! -

I went to 3 bridal shops in 2 different states before finding ~the one~ at Urban Set. I can easily say my experience at Urban Set was hands-down the best. The ladies here are EXPERTS and are so much fun to be around! USB also has a really wide variety of styles (e.g simple & classic, romatic, boho, lace, etc), colors AND sizes. Christine made me feel so at ease trying on many different dress styles and she and Jennifer took their time giving me advice in person and over email when I was stuck between two colors. I am so happy I got my dress here AND that I have the amazing Heather at the Hive working with me to plan the big day. I highly recommend working with Urban Set & The Hive for a true dream team. -

I had the best experience with Urban Set! First things first...you are the only bride there, so all the attention is on you. There aren't any distractions or your stylist getting pulled by three other brides for assistance. Speaking of my stylist, Melissa was extremely helpful, fun/bubbly, and not pushy at all. When I first arrived, I was kind of nervous but she made me feel right at home! I never once felt like a decision had to be made that day. Although, I did because I mean c'mon the gowns are gorgeous. The shop itself is so cute! We had an absolute blast at my bridal appointment! I would recommend them to anyone! -

Saying yes to my wedding dress at Urban Set Bride was easily one of the best experiences of my planning process. Urban Set offers an intimate, comfortable, and fun environment to try on dresses. I had the opportunity to interact with Hunter, Christine, and Jennifer in my visits to the store, and all three are absolutely incredible and so warm, welcoming, and genuine. I LOVE that Urban Set is inclusive of all sizes and identities. It was also important to me to buy my dress from a local, women-owned business that gives back to the community, and Urban Set checks all of the boxes and more. They have a great variety of beautiful dresses. I was looking for something classic with a slight boho vibe and eventually said "yes" to a gorgeous Lillian West gown. I loved that they only saw one bride at a time, and I think that my mom, grandma, and two bridesmaids who came with me had almost as much fun as I did! If you are at all nervous about trying on dresses (like I was!), go see the ladies at Urban Set! -

I can’t recommend Urban Set highly enough! Their shop in Churchhill is so cute and unique. They only do one appointment at a time, so I knew I would have their undivided attention and I wasn’t getting distracted by other people. I worked with Jenn who was absolutely amazing. While I had scoured their website before my appointment and had an idea of which dress I would end up with, she helped me be absolutely positive. She pulled dresses that were similar to my top dress but with one thing different (skirt, neckline, etc.), and it really helped me focus in on what I liked and didn’t like. We narrowed down the top picks, and I was confident in the dress I chose. Jenn was calm, positive, and so personable. She made me feel confident, comfortable, and there was no pressure to buy right away. I also got my veil from Urban Set, because it matched my dress perfectly. I tell everyone to go to Urban Set for their wedding gown; they won’t regret it! -

Urban Set Bride was the first dress shop that I visited. Hunter helped me pick out some beautiful dresses! We had the salon to ourselves since we went during the week and I loved it! Hunter helped me narrow my choices and defined what I was looking for. She was a great help! My favorite thing about Urban Set Bride is that they have a beautiful exclusive collection from a local designer, Audrey Joyce, only at this shop. I haven’t picked my dress yet but the one I found here is my #1 so far! -

There’s so many great things I can say about this place I don’t even know where to start. The best mother/daughter duo in the bridal business! The best bridal shop in VA! A beautiful boutique. The environment is so warm and inviting. My bridal stylist for the day Hunter was the best hand down! She made me feel so comfortable. She treated me with kindness. I truly could tell she loved to help people and all things bridal. She gave so much information about each dress I tried on making my decision easier. She was perfect! I couldn't have imagined a better wedding shopping experience. I loved that I could see the gowns they have in stock online before my appointment, and that I was able to send my stylist some of my favorites before I arrived to look and try things on. I had so much fun trying on wedding dresses, and even the ones that weren't my style were beautiful and high quality. Jennifer was so patient while I tried on my final two over and over. I ended up picking one and cancelling all of my other bridal appointments. I can't imagine having a better experience or going somewhere with a better staff or selection. I was not looking forward to trying on wedding dresses...I don't like trying on regular clothes. I had an okay experience at another dress shop, so I was a bit hesitant for my 2nd appointment at Urban Set. Enter Hunter. She made me feel relaxed and put me at ease immediately. I love the privacy of having the space to yourself and Hunter was open to me trying on any and everything. She guided me through several styles and I credit her completely with helping me select the perfect dress. I fell in love the moment I put it on and couldn't have been more pleased. They also give teacher discounts! I also purchased the most beautiful hair piece to go with it. I felt the most beautiful I've ever felt on my wedding day and I thank Urban Set for the part they played in that! Highly recommend! -

These women are amazing. Not only do I love my dress, and not only was the process stress free and fun- but they went way way way above and beyond to help me with details I was struggling with. I loved every dress I tried on and could have easily picked a dozen. By far the best shop I visited in Richmond/DC. This is a business that we need in Richmond, and I can’t wait to recommend it to friends and relatives who are getting married in years to come! -

I had gone to several shops before going to Urban Set, and I was disappointed by every single one. I had been resigned to just not LOVE my dress until my mom and I walked in here! The experience is second-to-none. We were given Jennifer's undivided attention, and she was excellent at figuring out what I needed. My mom and I do not have the same taste, but when I put on "the dress," all three of us knew it was the winner! Jennifer ordered me the perfect size, so the dress needed very little in way of alterations. My dress was comfortable, light, and perfect for my personality! Urban Set will not disappoint you! -

I felt absolutely comfortable and calm while trying on dresses. I was so worried about this process and they made it one of the easiest things I had to do. No pressure and no stress. My family and friends who joined me had a comfortable place to sit. The best part about the experience was working with Christine and Jennifer. On my first visit, I worked with Christine and she and Jennifer both made the experience a no-pressure situation. I narrowed it down to two dresses on my first visit about a year before my wedding, and then went back two months later and decided between the two. Pricing was also very reasonable. They are the best in Richmond!

Christine put me at ease immediately - she's knowledgeable and hilarious. They had a great selection of plus-size samples, but she was also great at picking out straight-size samples that I could fit into and get a sense of how it would look on me - she's a wizard with the clips! From filling out the initial appointment request, Jennifer and Christine were prompt and professional. My mom and sister flew in from St. Louis and Portland, OR for the appointment, and Jennifer made us all feel so special. I loved being the only bride in the store, and Jennifer struck the perfect balance between offering her knowledge and expertise while still listening to our thoughts on each dress. They provide a private experience for you and the people you bring with you, with a non-pushy "Sleep on it" approach. Exactly what I needed! From the time we walked into the door (myself, my mother, both of my Maid of Honors, and my aunt), it was all about us in that time block and not once did they make us feel rushed or feel uncomfortable. They listened, provided feedback and were both so down to earth, it was amazing. Listen, for a private, high end experience without the new car price tag, Urban Set Bride is where you need to go. My beautiful dress (which Jennifer picked out by the way) was the second dress that I'd tried on. I was given the option to sleep on it but I couldn't. I knew that my dress was it for me. I wish I had another event to attend that could allow for me to wear a wedding dress just so I could go back to them, haha! They are just that good! Highly recommended! -

I was super excited to shop here. I had been to other places but I just didn’t find anything. I had a particular designer in mind, and urban set carried plenty of what I had in mind.
Fast forward, appointment was good, found a dress that was the top contender, but wanted to sleep on it. During the appointment, I loved a gown, but wanted it to be strapless. Without hesitation they said it could be done. No problem. If I wanted strapless, it would be strapless.
I made a second appointment to come back to say yes to the dress and was paired with a different consultant who advised me that we should spend the appointment “looking for an alternative dress.”
Of course I was disappointed because I was already told it wasn’t a problem to make the dress strapless. So imagine how I felt when I was thinking the whole time “today is the day I’m going to buy my wedding dress!!”.
Needless to say I picked something else; but they told me they would speak to the seamstress about dress #1 and get in touch with me.
Just over a week later I got a call confirming that the seamstress *thinks* she can make it work.
I was initially thrilled, and put my order in.
A month later, I started to get nervous about the alterations, I spoke to two seamstresses who shared serious concerns about how it would work as a strapless.
I emailed urban set to voice my concerns. They suggested I go back a third time. So I did. Put the dress on again, and was reassured again.
But my gut wouldn’t let it go. I reached out to urban set again. They put me in touch with their seamstress. Which is where the whole thing fell apart.
I said who I was, what was going on , details of the gown... and long story short she emailed me that she “thought it would be ok, but she needed to see it on me”. The problem is I wasn’t comfortable gambling on “I think” for my wedding dress.
By the time I would have received the dress (August) and had alterations scheduled (September) and potentially realized that the gown wasn’t going to work out it would have been too late for me to start over since the wedding was in November. You can’t order a new dress with a month to spare.
I ended up forfeiting my deposit of over 800$ because I wasn’t convinced it could be altered appropriately. I don’t think that was stellar business practices considering that their own consultants and seamstress didn’t seem to be forthcoming about their hesitation. I feel that because of those two things they should have been honest about the mistakes and miscommunication and refunded the deposit I paid.
