We used Diane for our fall 2024 wedding and we've been in such a state of marital bliss that we're extremely late in giving this review actually!
From the get-go, Diane hustled hard for us and we knew from the moment we met her, she had our back.... she's direct, friendly, and goes out of her way to make the food special for her clients and ensured we had a smooth, stress-free experience. If anything went wrong the day of our wedding, we had no idea. Diane is SO together in fact, that she handled things that probably some of our other vendors dropped the ball on. She handled a large portion of our rentals which was so helpful.... always giving advice when asked, and gently nudging us back on course if she saw a problem arising (the rentals and the food were all included on one bill, very helpful). Much to my relief as well, she totally got a lot of our more uncommon requests for our wedding, including venue, time of day, flow of day, and style, and made it all flow seamlessly with a ton of moving parts--including orchestrating our bourbon toast (instead of champagne) and our "heirloom" family dessert table along with a small cake, which she set up for us beautifully alongside her catering setup.
Now for the food.....I (the bride) am from KY, and both my husband and I really wanted to showcase some traditional KY foods, while accommodating a large variety of dietary requests, including mine--every version of an app or station we requested, she made a vegetarian version of as well as the regular. The food across the board was so delicious, and contrary to popular belief, you CAN enjoy the food at your wedding when you have Diane, because she personally made us each a plate and brought it to us. She and her staff throughout the event anticipated everything.... we were never without water, a drink, or food. One of my favorite moments of the day was in the few minutes before I walked down the aisle, I was getting sooooo nervous and Diane strolled by, took one look at me and handed me my Bride's Cocktail (a delicious Paper Plane, ty Diane's bartenders for perfecting) and said "here try it for me to be sure it's right", with a little wink. The laugh I got from that made me giggle for the rest of the day. Our guests were so impressed and loved every bit they put on their plates.
She's truly Type A in the best way possible and allayed so many of this very Type A bride's fears of disaster along the way. Highly recommend Diane if you want someone who cares, and who will absolutely show up from day 1 for you and your partner to have a special, enjoyable, and stress free wedding day! -

White Glove Service from Start to Finish
Diane was with us every step of the way. We had a very specific wine list and Diane worked hard coordinating with the father of the bride and distributors to get everything we wanted. Diane was in constant communication with us and left no doubt that our wedding day would be perfect.
Diane and her team did a wonderful job on the day of our wedding. The food was incredible and very well plated and the staff was friendly and professional. Our guests loved the passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour. Diane’s dishes are creative with the perfect mix of flare and tradition.
We cannot speak highly enough of Diane and her team. It is clear Type A is one of the premiere caterers in central Kentucky. You will not be disappointed with Type A Catering! -

Type A Catering was incredible! Diane was very detail oriented throughout the entire process. Not only did Diane help us put our menu together, she also took care of ordering our rentals. We had a tasting, rental selection meeting, and multiple planning phone calls / emails. We had 3 food stations at our wedding - tenderloin and mashed potatoes, lasagna cupcakes, and street tacos. It was awesome having multiple food options for us and our guests! We had a stunning charcuterie spread and passed appetizers during cocktail hour. We also had 3 signature drinks. Everything was delicious and consistent from our original tasting! We received multiple compliments from our guests about the catering. Type A Catering was very accommodating of our special requests and guest's dietary needs (GF, allergies, vegan). On our wedding day, the staff was incredible too. Diane personally brought our dinner to us to ensure we could enjoy our meal together. Additionally, Type A packaged 2 meals for us to enjoy in the days following our wedding. I couldn't have been happier with Type A Catering, I highly recommend them to anyone!! Thank you Type A Catering!

If I could advise one thing to any future bride planning her wedding, it would be this: HIRE DIANE KELLUM WITH TYPE A CATERING. Do it now.
The company is aptly named Type A as Diane is every bit of it and as a bride you'll be so so so thankful she is. Diane is more than a caterer- she fills in all the gaps and grey areas when it comes to the reception planning. Everything from rentals to food to timing and more- she'll be thinking of things you never dreamed of needing to plan. She has plan A, plan B, and plan C locked, loaded, and ready-to-go for your event.
After our initial tasting, my husband and I counted down the days until we could eat her food again. We were overwhelmed with our good fortune of booking her so late considering our wedding was slotted for one of the most popular dates of 2021.
Diane's food is not "wedding food", it is quite literally fine dining. Don't be alarmed by any negative reviews regarding the bar. She is upfront about serving alcohol and her legal obligations and we were all on the same page. We had not a single issue with our open bar and guests the entire night.
Our menu included shrimp & grits, spinach artichoke puffs, brie & berry skewers, and bourbon date rumaki for appetizers, spring berry salads, bourbon cream chicken and bourbon BBQ brisket for entrees, green beans, mac 'n cheese, and fingerling potatoes as sides, and a late night snack chicken & waffle station.
(We also hired her for my bridal shower and that food was to die for as well)
Diane is nothing if not consistently exceeding expectations! 10/10 -

So thankful we chose Diane and Type A Catering to provide food and bar services for our wedding day. From start to finish Diane was responsive, flexible (cause Covid threw us some curveballs of course!), and very helpful in planning and creating the perfect menu for our event. We wanted to do appetizer stations and ending up choosing 7 food options- all of which were exceptional! Diane made sure 2 plates with all food options were brought to our sweetheart table so we were able to try everything and eat between being pulled in a million directions all day as bride and groom. The open bar and liquor selections she brought were on point- she knows her stuff! And I even requested a his and hers whiskey cocktail which she happily brought all the ingredients for and knocked out of the park. I cannot say enough good things about Type A Catering. If you're planning your perfect day, Diane is the one you want in charge of your menu and bar! -

When planning our wedding, we know two things had to happen. One, make sure the bar never runs out and two, have delicious food. Type A Catering went beyond our expectations. I had guest who were asking me what we were having months in advance and could not wait to try the food just based off the menu. Honestly, the food might have been one of the top three things I was excited about that day too. We had a fusion wedding and needed to also have Indian food. We ordered Indian food from a local restaurant and Type A catering handled the rest. They were in contact with the restaurant to make sure everything was taken care of and then the day of they served and maintained the food. The food was beyond words. Every single guest was walking away with three plates in their hands and going back for seconds. I still keep getting messages about how amazing our food was and asking where it was from. Not only was the food delicious, but the presentation of the food was beautiful as well! We had to figure out a way to make stations and buffet style appetizers COVID friendly and they did an excellent job! I know that catering can get pricey, but I promise you wont be disappointed if Type A does your catering. It was worth every penny I spent. -

Diane was beyond amazing to work with. This was our first wedding to plan, I was clueless! Diane's ability to communicate a clear vision of her abilities, to help me plan everything from the place settings to the linen colors and to pull of a spectacular meal for 160 guests made for a seamless evening that our guests referred to as magical. The rain on the wedding day made for a challenge that would have dampened the spirits of most caterers, but Diane and her staff took it all in stride. I will miss working with her! -

FAR exceded our expectations!
Hiring Diane to cater our wedding was one of the BEST decisions we made. She was worth every single penny and offered much more than we paid for, in my opinion. During the planning process, Diane helped us make a room diagram, helped us order rentals and attended a walk through with my venue. She was always super quick to respond and super knowledgeable about pretty much every aspect of planning a wedding, even things that had nothing to do with catering. Diane also helped us pick the perfect menu taking into consideration what would work best at our venue, what would be in season at the time and classic Kentucky options we could showcase to our many out of town guests. She even prepared a few very last minute special meals for some guests with dietary restrictions.
The night of, the food was INCREDIBLE. Diane greeted my husband and I with a tray of appetizers and drinks. The appetizers were very filling and SO tasty. And our dinner was even better! People often worry about having dry chicken at a wedding, but Diane ensured that our chicken was cooked to perfection. We received so many compliments on the food and we had many people tell us they ate more at our wedding than others just because it was not typical "wedding food". That's a total win in my book!
We also hired Diane to take care of our bar needs for the evening. She was able to accommodate our special requests and her staff served every one very quickly. There was never a line! Her staff was amazing as well. Super professional, helpful and proactive. Diane continued to help serve me, my husband and our parents all night. We felt so spoiled and well taken care of! It's truly a testament to not only how good of a caterer Diane is, but how good of a person she is. She will take the best care of you on your wedding day!!! -

I come from a family that loves to create and eat delicious food, so choosing a caterer for our wedding day was probably one of the most important decisions we had to make. I sat and researched and read countless reviews, but what first caught my attention was Diane's creative name. From there, I sought her out at a bridal event, and the second thing that caught my attention was her beautiful display. The deal sealer, was of course her delicious food. Diane was SO kind, and we quickly learned that her wedding knowledge spanned much further than just food, but also to design, set-up, and so much more. Diane is very easy to work with, we had many ideas, and she was great at helping us figure out our best options, all while staying within budget. She was helpful with every step that we took, and was accommodating to all of our needs. The food on our wedding day was SPECTACULAR, so much so, that even now our friends and family reminisce on it. Diane is truly an expert in her field, and I couldn't imagine our wedding day without her! You'd be crazy to book anyone else! -

My husband and I planned our wedding from out-of-state. If that wasn't enough, we did a Ragnar Relay (200 mile race with a team of 12) for the two days before the wedding. We had a LOT of planning and coordination to do and Diane helped us through so much of it. Type A is a preferred vendor for our venue at Buffalo Trace and after contacting Diane, we could see why. She walked us through details that we hadn't considered and got enough information to run with our vision and fill in the gaps as they arose. She gave us feedback where we needed it and double checked on other vendors. She builds up a trust relationship and you can rely on her to make sure your catering needs and day-of coordination is on point. Also, Type A's food is fantastic! Diane worked with us to design a buffet meal (salmon, chicken, autumn vegetables, asparagus, and a gluten-free+vegetarian plate for one friend) exactly inline with what we wanted and numerous guests told us that it wasn't just wedding-food good, but it was good restaurant good. My husband and I agree and wish we could have more of Type A's catering! Basically, go with Type A if you have the option to do so. -

Leslie Sent on 12/26/2017We couldn't be happier with the food and service we got from Type A Catering! Diane is thorough, detailed, and incredibly easy to work with. Our guests are still talking about the butternut squash ravioli. She helped us figure out every detail and then carried it out perfectly. During the day, we didn't have to worry about anything because we knew Diane had it under control.
Although we didn't interact with the servers and bartenders much (because Diane personally took care of us as the bride and groom!) I heard from more than one guest how wonderful they were.
I hope to have a reason to work with Diane and her crew again!! -

Diane is a dream to work with and acts as a wedding planner ensuring all of your linens, plates, utensils, etc. match are exactly what you envisioned for your big day. She is a full service planner and her staff go above and beyond to make your wedding perfect! The food is beyond amazing. All of our guests raved about the food and my coworkers were asking for leftovers the week after our wedding because they loved it all so much. Our tasting was delicious and the food the day of our wedding tasted the exact same. She also really wants to work with you to hit your budget number. We changed our minds countless times and Diane was extremely accommodating to our requests. There aren't enough great words to say about Diane and her staff at Type A Catering! -

Jessica Sent on 11/17/2016Diane was absolutely amazing to work with. I met her about 10 months prior to our wedding and right off the bat I knew that I wanted her to cater our wedding. She was actually the only caterer that we met with! She asked the right questions and it was clear that she knew what she was doing. During the entire wedding planning process I knew that I could trust her opinions and ask her for advice. One of the most important things for us was finding a caterer that could work with our budget and that is exactly what she did. The food was excellent. Everyone was impressed with the cocktail hour and dinner.
About a month prior our wedding I asked Diane to be our coordinator for the day of and she was able to accommodate me even though it was such a last minute request. I highly recommend using her as a coordinator as well! She made sure that the ceremony ran smoothly and she made the entire night worry free for me. -

I DO NOT RECOMMEND type A Catering. Being a COVID-19 couple, we were unable to have our planned wedding of 150 people on our original wedding date, due to government guidelines. Although we did consider rescheduling, we decided to not put our loved ones at risk during uncertain times. Diane considered this a cancellation on our part. We were prepared to lose our non-refundable deposit of $500 to hold the date but were shocked/disappointed when we were informed that our first payment installment (deposit with contract) of $3,977.05 wouldn’t be refunded either. The decision to not reschedule wasn’t a decision we took lightly, with our vendors in mind. Diane gave us a food/beverage credit (for a year). Although in my opinion, during a pandemic I feel her decision was indecent to keep our deposits and not offer a refund at a later date, but only a credit. A pandemic is unprecedented times and it was unfair/unkind to handle business in this manner when I was fearful to reschedule our wedding during uncertainty.
