Terrible wedding experience including being replaced with a more important guest on our wedding night
My husband and I booked (about a year in advance) a suite at CityFlats in Holland for several nights over Labor Day weekend in 2017. The booking was for the weekend of our wedding, but we did not use CityFlats as our venue.
We had many issues with accommodations for our guests leading up to the weekend, which were ultimately the result of terrible communication from the hotel. At some point our contact left their employment at CityFlats and it took us weeks to realize we were emailing an address that was no longer being monitored. The end result was many of our guests not being able to book rooms. They also completely failed to distribute the thank you bags we had arranged for our guests.
The above issues were understandable logistical mistakes and hardly warrant such a bad review. However, what was absolutely nonredeemable was the feeling of hurt and disrespect my husband and I experienced when we checked in. We were told that we would be required to switch rooms on our wedding day because our suite had been given to a different guest. When we pressed further and asked why the other guest couldn't use a different room we were told that it wasn't possible because "that's his room." I'm not sure what politics were going on behind the scenes, but we were absolutely shocked at being told we were effectively less important than the other guest.
We were able to work out a logistical arrangement with CityFlats so we in fact had a place to stay (the rest of the city was booked), but there was a significant amount of added stress on our wedding day to accomplish it. Although we had a fantastic wedding weekend in Holland, the blatant disrespect we were shown by CityFlats was incredibly hurtful and that feeling still hasn't completely gone away.
