I worked with Gwen for a couple of years, so while this may be biased, I can offer my first-hand experience of watching how she works. You're not going to meet someone more dedicated to making you happy. She's not just passionate about cakes and treats, she's passionate about people. I've never met someone who works harder than her and I have two nurses in my family (and am a teacher myself). Gwen has made birthday cakes, graduation desserts, and many pasties (not pastries, but the beef and chicken pasties!) for my family and also did my sister's wedding. I promise you, your cake will taste incredible, it will look flawless, and you will feel so cared about and really listened to. Go with Gwen. -

Trifles provided the cake and cupcakes for my daughter's wedding August 5th, 2017. They were not only delicious, but absolutely beautifully decorated! Gwen had the cupcakes set up perfectly and we were so pleased with her artistic display and are still receiving compliments. Highly recommend Trifles!! -

Gwen did my cake and pie tarts for my wedding. She was attentive to detail and you can tell she is a master of her craft. She is not just talented with her decorating, but her knowledge on quality of ingredients is evident. I ordered a marble cake with white buttercream frosting and chocolate caramel sea salt filling. IT was DELICIOUS!!!!!!!! My guests loved it. We also ordered apple pie tarts and the guests loved them as well! Everything was delicious. She worked with us with the cost as well. Overall, I will go to Trifles for any baked needs/cakes and would recommend them to anyone for their wedding. -

Gwen and her staff were amazing!!! Our caterer, 2 Unique, gave us a list of bakers they've used in the past and Trifles sounded the best. I love the name! Then I called and Gwen was so accommodating. She had us come in right away to discuss our cake choices and to taste them. Her shop in West Bloomfield is just the cutest and it smells sooo good! She had several choices out for us to taste, offered us coffee and water. She asked what were were looking for then went to town drawing it up and quoting us for it.
We decided to go with a smaller, two tier chocolate cake. The top tier we took home with us for our 1 year anniversary and the bottom tier we had served to our head table. The cake was chocolate cake, 3 layers, strawberry mouse, chopped fresh strawberry in Chantilly creme and then chocolate mouse. The frosting was a off white cream color and she put the most beautiful sugar flowers on top of it. For all of our guests, we went with 3 different flavors of cupcakes (even though, for the same price she offered us up to 5 different flavors). One was red velvet with creme cheese filling and frosting. The nest was a white cake with a fresh strawberry and jelly topped with whipped creme frosting and the last was a chocolate cake with chocolate filling and frosting! She made them look sooo beautiful and they were, most importantly, delicious!!!
She came early to drop them off the day of the wedding (June 11th 2016) and let us use her cake stands and plates and decorated our cake table to nicely! We had to take her plates and stands back but that was just fine! Trifles, Gwen and her team were wonderful and I would recommend them to anyone looking for great cake and the nicest people!! -

Best cake ever! It was both beautiful and yummy. I described my theme and she made the most amazing looking cake. Plus it has 3 layers of filling for each tier of the cake. The end effect was a cake that everyone ranted and raved about. Did I mention the cake was all gone by the end of the night? -

Trifles captured our my fiancé and my vision for our wedding cake perfectly and it was DELICIOUS. Guests were raving about how good it was days after the wedding. We chose 3 different flavors: carrot cake, cookies and cream, and yellow cake with caramel. We also used Trifles for the day after brunch and they make all of our birthday cakes. I HIGHLY recommend them. They are very affordable, as well. -

Gwen and her team did such a wonderful job on our cupcake tower. She helped us with amazing ideas from the information we had given her. She is a true artist. Her desserts are delicious. Gwen was absolutely wonderful! She listened to exactly what my fiancé and I wanted and then gave us her ideas to make our ideas even better. She made our wedding cake, candy for our candy buffet, and sweets for our sweets table. Trifles made my wedding cake. Gwen was fantastic, as was her staff. Don't be fooled by her middle of nowhere location and dark store. This bakery makes the BEST cakes in southeastern Michigan--the artistry, quality of ingredients, and top level of customer service have made this place the go-to for all of our major events. I could not be happier with Trifles.
The tasting went great--we had used trifles for my brother's wedding, so we knew it was top quality. I told her I knew what I wanted for one of our cake layers, but didn't exactly know what I wanted for the grooms layer and he had only given me vague guidance. Gwen walked me through my options, and came up with a good custom choice--nutella mousse! My groom LOVED this option, and it was a huge hit at the wedding.
The day of, the cake looked AMAZING. Gwen perfectly fulfilled my desire for a bright, colorful but classy wedding cake. Her sugar flowers were so beautiful, brightly colored, and realistic looking. She also added a little songbird which I requested, and added perfect artistic touches throughout the sugar flower arrangement. This cake was exactly what I wanted, and then even more! When I saw it at my wedding my jaw dropped. It was GORGEOUS.
Not only was the cake beautiful-- it tasted AMAZING. We did a 3 layer round cake, 1 layer which was raspberry and lemon curd, the other was the nutella mouse. Both had white cake, and whipped frosting. I tried both at the wedding and LOVED them. The cake was moist, the frosting was sweet and fluffy, and the fillings tasted great. Guests were asking for seconds, and I got comments all night on how great the cake was. I think I gave out Trifles' name a few dozen times when people asked where it came from.
I am so happy I went with Trifles for my wedding, and I highly recommend them! -

Trifles created my EXCELLENT wedding cake. It was hands down the best tasting professional cake that I have ever had. My family and guest are still talking about how beautiful it was and how great it taste. We could not have asked for more. Gwen is an extraordinary baker and artist. The cake she created for us looked better than the picture we provided.
To say that Gwen is good, seems like not enough. She has excellent skill, her cakes taste great, the price was affordable and she is a sweetheart that gives excellent customer service. Right in the neighborhood too! -

We used Trifles for a Cupcake Tower with a small cake on top for cutting purposes. We met with Gwen twice, once for the tasting and once for our final consultation, and she was very helpful each time. All of our guests loved the variety of cupcakes, and as the bride I was especially happy to see how beautiful it turned out - just like my vision! -

Gwen helped my design a FABULOUS wedding cake and on top of that it was delicious! No fondant! Her prices were well within reason for the final outcome. Her cake was one of my most favorite things about my whole wedding and I got so many compliments on it. Definitely recommend her to anyone! -

Some little girls grow up dreaming of their wedding dress. I dreamt of my wedding cake. The absolute one and only dealbreaker for my wedding was that I wanted a Swedish Prinsesstarta for my wedding cake. They're fairly easy to find in California, but for some reason, we had the absolute hardest time finding one in Michigan despite the huge Scandinavian population.
Fortunately, our planner finally found Gwen, who really knows her stuff! She had the technical know-how to turn what is traditionally a marzipan-covered dome of fluffy, custardy, whipped goodness into an opulent tiered (!!!) wedding cake (with necessary modifications, of course). Did I mention it was delicious? And so beautiful—covered in realistic, gumpaste flowers with gemstone accents. -

We LOVE Trifles! Gwenn handled all of our desserts for our reception. We had everything from cupcakes to miniature tarts and sugar cookies! Every single dessert was delicious, each one being even more amazing than the last. Not only was everything so tasty, but Gwenn is an artist and creates such beautiful displays of her pastries. Our dessert table was a huge hit with our guests. On top of all of that, we had one tiny misunderstanding as we ordered rock candy from them to give as gifts to our guests. A few days before our wedding, we realized there was a mistake in the order and we only had half the amount we had originally requested. Panicked, I brought this to Gwenn's attention and she responded immediately and assured me it would be handled. The very next day (with plenty of time to spare before wedding day), Gwenn had resolved the problem and all the rock candy was sitting in her shop ready to go without charging us a single extra penny! :-)
If you're having a tough time picking between cakes, definitely go with Trifles for the AMAZING customer service experience! I'd recommend them over and over! -

Trifles is phenomenal. My Wedding Cake was not only Beautiful, it was delicious as well. Everyone raved about the cake and the chocolate covered strawberries saying it was the best they have ever tasted. They loved it so much, there wasn't any left to take home. Since my wedding, I have order numerous cakes from Gwen and would never even think of going anywhere else. Just ordered my daughters baby shower cake and I know it will be amazingly georgous! Gwen\'s cakes taste so good! The cake we ordered ended up being much bigger and better than I imagined. It was less than $300 with delivery for 70 people for very large servings of cake. One guest told us he usely doesn\'t eat cake but ours was so good he ate his whole slice. We considered saving the top layer for our 1st anniversary but decided that we will just order a small cake to eat fresh in a year. Her cakes are so good it is worth getting a fresh one and I can\'t wait to have it again! -

Gwen's cakes are beautiful, and delicious to boot. We had four separate cakes, each a different flavor cake, and filling combination. We had a spice cake with caramel filling, a Banana Split cake, a marble cake that was soaked in Kahlua, with Frangelico/hazelnut mousse, and a white cake with apricot, and cassata filling. The cakes were so popular that we barely managed to get two pieces to take home with us, besides the top layer which was the spice cake. In fact the Kahlua cake was so popular, that if Lance and I hadn't of cut that cake during the cake cutting ceremony, we never would have tasted it. Her chocolate fountains are also to die for. That was a huge hit after dinner.
P.S. Gwen, I will be ordering more of the marble cake with Kahlua, and Frangelicoin the next couple of weeks. Lance has requested that as his birthday cake. We'll also probably take a couple of small one up to my parents, they didn't get to try that cake either. Also up to my stepmom, she didn't make the wedding. -

I researched nearly 20 cake companies in the metro Detroit area looking for the best value without having to sacrifice design and flavor. Gwen was able to make my beautiful cake for an affordable price and still have a different and unique flavor for each layer. I noticed a lot of designers limit you to 1 or 2 flavors or they have each cake already paired with filling. Gwen may make suggestions but the decision is up to you. We went to our tasting and as I was talking to her about what I like and don't like she busily sketched away. Magicly she designed my dream cake. It's almost like she was inside my head. She has a very good knack of sketching a person's personality into a cake. I will admit I dislike cake but Gwen's cake is delicious! -

The cake was amazing. She was able to replicate our exact desires. It tasted amazing as well. As I expected, people left our wedding commenting that it was the best cake they ever had. I had no intention on freezing the top layer, but soon changed my mind after tasting the cake

I wish I would've known that Ms. Gwen was a vendor on the site, because I would've left her a comment a while ago...but she is the absolute best! She was very esasy to work with and very patient, being that my husband is very picky. She answered all of our questions, and during the tasting she took time to explain every sample! Everyone loved our cupcake tower, they were so delicious. My husband hates choclate, but when he tasted her chocolate cupcakes he was in love! She was very, very helpful,and service was great! -

While we did taste cakes/frosting that were better than Trifles, Trifles was by far the least expensive baker for what we received. Our bridal and groom's cakes were gorgeous and delicious. Trifles was very flexible with flavors and mixing layers. We've ordered several more cakes from Trifles because we were so happy with their service and product. -

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! I can't say it enough, in a sea of upsetting vendors Gwen was the one I felt really earned her money. My cake was beautiful, it tasted divine and not once did I have to worry about whether or not it would turn out alright. I must have changed my mind about three times on the design and Gwen always adapted well and gave me honest input, she was a true pleasure to work with.
When I got fed up with my venue/catering I called her up and begged her to do an appetizer table for me. She of course I agreed with very little notice and my guests loved it! Espically the bacon pastry, and I didn't even get to try one! I can't say enough praises she has earned my husband and I's buisness for life. -

After tasting a delicious wedding cake from Trifles, I had to go with them for my own wedding. The cake tasted as good as I remembered and looked absolutely beautiful. They were also extremely flexible with what I wanted. Highly recommended! -

Gwen, the owner and founder of Trifles, is a phenomenally talented baker and artist. She made both our wedding cake and our groom's cake, which was designed as a surprise for the groom to look like Spaceship Earth (the park icon in Epcot at Walt Disney World), and both of them turned out better than I had imagined, not to mention tasting absolutely fantastic. The quality of her work is something that ourselves and most of her clients do not forget; I'm sure we will be going back to her for more cakes in the future. We mostly corresponded via e-mail, and it sometimes took a week or so for Gwen to respond; she is extremely busy and this is very obvious at times. -

Trifles has been in business since 2001. Everything is unique;from the shoppe to the cakes to the owner. There, creativity is key. Take a look at the extensive portfolio to be amazed. There is simply no reason to look elsewhere.
P.S. The cake tasted WONDERFUL too! We go back and order a smaller version of the same for our anniversary. -

Gwen is a pleasure to work with--very intentional about providing the best service she can. The cake, in terms of taste, is the best I've had. It's not too sweet, but not bland.
The decoration was also very beautiful. If you are looking for a very specific kind of cake, she may not be able to replicate it completely--she has a set of flower designs she works with and a style she likes. However, this is all from years of her experience and no doubt that her "edits" will be for the better. So as a note for the future customers, if you are looking for a very specific design, just let her know. -

Gwen was a complete lifesaver! My husband and I had planned on making the cup cakes for our wedding cup cake tower ourselves with the help of some friends but as the big day got closer we realized that we just weren't going to have the time to bake over 150 cupcakes! Trifles is my mothers favorite chocolate shop so she called Gwen a week before our wedding and she was able to squeeze us in between 5 other wedding cakes she was doing that day! Sure my dad picked up the cupcakes and my aunt put the display together, but we were planning on that anyway. The cupcakes are delicious and we will be forever indebted to Gwen for being able to do such a beautiful job on such short notice! -

Trifles provided our wedding cake for our reception at Waldenwoods Resort in Hartland MI on February 9th 2013.
We had a three tiered round cake with white frosting and ivory piping with a custom cake topper, buttercream frosting, and two flavors - a white cake with white chocolate chantilly cream and raspberry chantilly cream and chocolate cake with chocolate chantilly cream and raspberry chantilly cream.
My (now) husband and I met with Gwen (the owner) several times before the wedding and each time she offered us a tasting to remind us of our options. She was very helpful in picking out the size of cake and the amount of sheet cake we would need to accommodate our guests as well as discussing options in our price range. For what we got I feel that the price was excellent!
I did a custom design for the cake which I drew myself and Gwen re-created perfectly! She even added small metallic gold balls through the design to add a tiny hint of sparkle (gold was one of our colors). The beautiful cake stand she provided (free of charge) also complimented the ornate style of our wedding. Most importantly - the cake tasted delicious! It was moist, very flavorful, and VERY rich.
Gwen had worked with Waldenwoods several times so she knew when to drop the cake off, who to talk to, where to take it to, etc. so that was very helpful to me as it was one less thing I needed to worry about. I do not have any complaints about my experience with Trifles, Gwen, or the results, and I would absolutely recommend Trifles.
