The Perfect Historic Venue for Our Special Day

Getting married in Old Town Alexandria was truly a dream, and Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC) was the perfect place to celebrate our wedding. The location is incredible, full of charm and history, and created such a special atmosphere for our day.
From our very first email, Deri was amazing to work with. She gave us a thorough tour of the venue and provided a helpful list of recommended vendors, which made planning so much easier. Throughout the entire process, she was incredibly supportive. She even took the time to meet with a vendor who was new to the venue, ensuring everything went smoothly.
The venue itself is extremely flexible and can truly accommodate any type of event. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and highly recommend TFAC to any couple looking for a beautiful, historic, and well-supported wedding location.

Great venue – great location – great people

Deri and her team are wonderful – the list of recommended vendors was useful and easy to navigate and the Torpedo Factory team made coordination smooth. Cost for the space is very reasonable, with a fair amount of flexibility (in the vendor selection), especially for the Old Town location. Would highly recommend them!

    Fantastic venue!

We loved having our wedding at TFAC! The venue is so flexible with vendors, vibe, setup. It was a dream to work with Deri as well.

    A Wedding for the Books!

The Torpedo Factory was the best location for our wedding reception. Deri the event coordinator and her assistant Michael were incredibly responsive and helpful even on the day of the event. Deri had the perfect recommendation for a caterer (Genesis Delight Catering was incredible and more cost effective. Our guests literally raved about how great the food was). The dance floor was never empty, and facilitated a perfect unforgettable evening. I highly recommend this location to anyone who is looking for a hip, and beautiful location for their wedding or event.

Thank you Deri and the Torpedo Factory team for making our wedding night one for the books!

    Graduation Party

Deri was so helpful and wonderful in helping my sister plan her graduation party back in August! I would definitely recommend this venue for anyone wanting to have a party or a special event.

Amazing event venue in the Heart of Old Town

Torpedo Factory is an awesome place to host your event, particularly in historic Alexandria. While all other venues generally need to adhere to noise ordinance of 10 or 11, you can keep your party going until midnight there! We had a fabulous and loud band and the dance floor was full all night long. Deri is also a dream to work with- she truly cares about her clients and wants everyone to have the wedding of their dreams! I wish I could host an event there every weekend and keep the party going. I also loved the unique setting with tons of art surrounding my guests. Can’t say enough good things!

    Great Venue & Service

I attended a wedding event here recently and was extremely impressed.
The Events Manager and her team transformed the rather industrial space into a warm and inviting atmosphere filled with amazing decor and creative flare.
The staff were attentive and very professional and the vendors used from the caterer to the flowers were top notch.
I’d highly recommend the Torpedo Factory for a variety of events as it provides a truly unique experience.

    Torpedo Factory Wedding

We recently had our wedding at Torpedo Factory, and it was absolutely perfect! The venue is stunning, with an industrial urban vibe, making it a truly magical setting for our special day.

Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the beauty of the space and how seamlessly everything flowed. If you’re looking for a venue that combines elegance and charm, I wholeheartedly recommend Torpedo Factory. It was everything we dreamed of and more!

    10/10 recommend!

Had the best wedding here, and Deri was the best to work with! Would absolutely recommend this space, having everything in one place and in such a great area really made the wedding for everyone. The space is super cool and allows the guest to see some of the art, and the price for the area was really great. Deri was also super helpful recommending vendors that knew the space and were great with the space to make the day as smooth as possible.

Amazing experience at the Torpedo Factory

We held our high school prom at the Torpedo Factory. And, WOW, what a night it was!! From the recommended vendors to the event planning staff it was perfection and the best prom ever. We had 700 students in attendance. It went off without a hitch. The event staff helped guide us through all of our desires from check in to hanging decorations to the final clean up. We used Bittersweet Catering, DMV Flowerwalls for decoration/360 Photobooth, ACPD and DJ Modern Box/DJ Amplitude. Everyone should use these amazing vendors and recreate our night at the Torpedo Factory. You will be so happy you did. I am so grateful to this amazing team that pulled off a lifetime of memories for our Juniors, Seniors and staff.

    Solid venue. Fantastic event team

We held our wedding reception at the torpedo factory last year and we loved it. At first i was a little hesitant about the size because we were expecting over 200 guests, but seeing it all laid out it was perfect. Nobody was cramped and there was still plenty of walkway and dance floor. Renting out the second floor as well was such a great addition to how guests used the space. It allowed people to step out of the action without removing themselves entirely from the event. The art galleries in the torpedo factory were a greay addition to the space as well. They captured the attention of the guests during the cocktail hour but during the core of the reception they seemed to fade into the background. The lighting in the displays can be adjusted to whatever balance along that line works best for you.

The real highlight, though, was the event team. Deri and her team were always responsive, and she was always supportive, but never at the cost of honesty or realistic expectations. She wanted us to succeed and went above and beyond to make sure we could.

This is a beautiful, adaptable, and unique venue, and you will be in good hands working with Deri.

Have your wedding at the torpedo factory!

The Torpedo Factory is truly a one-of-a-kind venue. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how cool and unconventional the spot was. It provided the perfect backdrop for our special day, and being surrounded by art added an extra layer of excitement and charm.

One of the highlights was the convenience of the location. Not only was it easy for us to organize a rehearsal dinner beforehand, but we also had the opportunity to host an unforgettable after-party. The proximity to hotels made it incredibly convenient for our guests, ensuring that everyone could enjoy the celebration without worrying about transportation.

Deri played a pivotal role in making our wedding dreams a reality. Not only did she recommend exceptional vendors who exceeded our expectations, but she also contributed her own creative ideas and valuable insights throughout the planning process. Deri's professionalism and dedication were truly commendable, and her collaboration with our wedding planner ensured that everything ran seamlessly on the big day.

In summary, our experience with Deri, her team at the Torpedo Factory surpassed all expectations. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories, and we couldn't have asked for a better team to bring our vision to life. We wholeheartedly recommend Deri and this venue to anyone looking for a truly extraordinary wedding experience.

    Best Venue and Venue Manager!

First off, the Torpedo Factory Art Center is an absolute dream venue. It is beautiful, unique, and affordable (relative to other venue expenses!) Old Town Alexandria is such a beautiful and charming neighborhood as well, and all our guests enjoyed staying there. However, the main reason that the TFAC is so amazing is because of Deri, the venue manager. Immediately, she made my husband and I feel right at home and so much less stressed about the planning. She handled EVERYTHING and went so above and beyond. Even post wedding, she is helping me tie up some loose ends. I can't speak highly enough about her professionalism and her clear passion for her job and making your wedding day perfect. I can't recommend the TFAC enough for your wedding day!

    Energetic!

We choose TFAC because of the value, the unique setting, the easy setup, and how great Deri is! It was an ideal location for our wedding. Deri was easy to work with and helped put our ideas into action when we had ideas and gave us guidance when we needed it. She was also a huge advocate for us and her list of connections with other vendors was so helpful.

    We Love Torpedo Factory!

Deri and the entire team at Torpedo Factory were a true joy to work with, and my husband Jay and I recommend the venue and staff wholeheartedly. From the moment we signed the contract through the day of our wedding reception, Deri and her team were helpful, kind, thorough, and professional. Torpedo Factory will always hold a special place in our hearts as the backdrop to the best weekend of our lives.

    Super fun wedding venue!

We just had our 150 person wedding reception at Torpedo Factory. It was so much fun! The venue is so cool and funky that we didn't have to do much additional decorating. Once the tables, bars, and lighting were set up, the place looked fabulous. It fit our group size very well. We had a blast, and enjoyed working with Deri. Thanks!!

    Everything we ever imagined!

I am never the type of person to write reviews but I totally feel inclined to do so after having my wedding at TFAC. From the day we toured the building, we knew we could mold the space into what we imagined for the big day. All workers at TFAC were so helpful and kind and made everything so easy leading up to our wedding day as well as the day of and subsequently the day after to pick up our items. Our guests loved how unique the space was and its proximity to everything in Old Town Alexandria. Any time any of my friends get engaged, the first thing I do is recommend TFAC. The space was absolutely perfect and everything I imaged plus more.

    Such a fun/unique wedding spot

We loved having our wedding at the Torpedo Factory. It's such a unique space and was gorgeous when lit up at night. Deri is super enthusiastic and has plenty of ideas to share with you from previous weddings, especially on how to save money. She also somehow made my dream of displaying basketball highlights during our cocktail hour possible. The team knows what they are doing. Important to know that the art center is open until 5pm every day, so weddings start 630pm at earliest, and good to have vendors who know the space and can work quickly to turn it around.

    Perfect artsy venue!

The Torpedo Factory gave us the wedding venue of our dreams, and in particular we loved working with Deri Collingwood. We were already big fans of the Torpedo Factory as a reclaimed art center, but from the day Deri gave us our tour, we knew it would be perfect for our wedding. TFAC is modern and artsy; different and cool; spacious and impressive (as our guests told us many times!). It was exactly what we were looking for, and Deri provided us so much help in our 1.5 years of planning - not only helping us feel comfortable when we were getting overwhelmed with planning, but also coming up with so many great ideas for how we could DIY things to save money. We loved having our wedding at TFAC, and our guests did too. Its story as a former torpedo factory that has been reclaimed by artists is something you won’t find anywhere else, and very special. The location is ideal - on the waterfront (at a great price!), walking distance to tons of cute Old Town restaurants and hotels, close to DC and the airport. We also really appreciated being able to drop off wedding items the night before and pick them up the day after the wedding. We highly recommend working with Deri - who was just an absolute pleasure to work with, endlessly positive - as well as Richard, Jocelyn, and the whole TFAC team.

Fun space your guests will love exploring, great location!

TFAC is a very cool venue. It's in a great location that your out of town guests will love but still convenient to DC for DC-based couples. It's also a reasonable price compared to other venues, particularly when you consider how much space you get.

Their events person Deri really goes the extra mile, including helping us figure out how to hang a curtain to cover some art we didn't love the day of. She has a lot of equipment and odds and ends that she is happy to share with you (lanterns, napkin holders for the bathroom, votives, etc.) and will help you avoid wasting money on things that you soon realize you can do without. She was actually the person who encouraged us to DIY our centerpieces out of beach-y objects as opposed to paying thousands of dollars for flowers that get thrown away. She was there for our whole event (and before), tidying and keeping everything moving. She will absolutely ensure you event goes smoothly!!

The only flag about the space is that certain parts are hard to light. They turn off the big overhead lights but then there are parts of the entrance and back that are a bit dark. You might want to think about some free standing lighting for certain areas.

    The Perfect Location

I honestly could not be more happy with the TFAC. It was the perfect place to hold our wedding. Being in Old Town it was in the center of everything our family and any activity that we could have possibly wanted to do. Deri was AMAZING and was constantly going above and beyond to help us out (peep the curtain behind our sweetheart table that was also used at our ceremony.) She was 100% supportive and always offered really good input every step of the way. Deri was one definitely a big factor when we picked the location. The TFAC allowed us to hold our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all in one space.
There is no doubt in our minds that we would choose the TFAC over and over again if we wanted to redo our wedding.

TFAC made our wedding special for so many reasons!

Choosing the Torpedo Factory Art Center as our venue may have been one of our best decisions throughout the wedding planning process! First, let me give a HUGE shout-out to Deri, the venue's private event manager. Deri was a true joy to work with - she went above & beyond at every step of the process. Her optimism and creativity (and her handy iPad!) energized us, and her professionalism and experience prevented anything from falling through the cracks. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful, and unique in all the right ways. TFAC is a blank slate that we were able to customize in whichever way we liked, and is in an incredible location at the bottom of King Street in Old Town; hotels, bars & restaurants, and other attractions are all nearby. We had an amazing wedding at TFAC and could not recommend the venue more highly!

    Absolutely Incredible

The Torpedo Factory is a magical and unique venue. It requires vision and creativity but it is a unique place that really lets you design your own wedding. Deri Collingwood was a beacon of light to guide you through the planning process with a tablet full of ideas and a beautiful Pinterest. The Torpedo Factory houses amazing artists that was our one-stop-shop, we got our wedding bands custom made, my bouquets pressed and our guests even got us presents from the artists. It is an absolutely unforgettable wedding venue for the couple and guests!

The Torpedo Factory Art Center was the perfect venue for our October 2, 2021 wedding reception! As Alexandria natives, we definitely wanted to stay local to the city, and what better place than this historic Old Town landmark that embodies Alexandria. After postponing our wedding for a year, we went through many of the ups and downs of planning a wedding during a pandemic, but Deri, the event manager at TFAC, made the date change and planning feel effortless in a very stressful time! She was reliable, attentive, caring and responded to our every need. Her bubbly and upbeat personality was an added bonus, which kept us calm and smiling throughout the planning process. Deri was excellent in providing us with recommended vendors that had previously worked at TFAC. We stuck to the list of vendors that she recommended and were more than pleased with all of them. On our wedding day, Deri seamlessly worked with all of our vendors, including our day-of coordinator, and made sure everything went off without a hitch— at least as far as I know, and that’s the most important thing, right?! I highly recommend this beautifully unique wedding venue and can’t thank Deri enough!!

    Beyond our WILDEST Dreams!

We're a pretty unique couple ... non traditional in every way, but we have a fairly traditional family. So when it came to finding a venue that allowed us to mix traditional and non-traditional elements for our wedding, the Torpedo Factory was a no-brainer. The art is amazing, the history is incredible, the location allows for so many guests to explore, and the staff ... especially Deri ... are just perfect professionals and LOVE delighting their renters!!! Honestly, the wedding was BEYOND our wildest imagination and it was (dare I say) easy!!! That was truly because Deri and the team there went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed AND if it wasn't readily available ... they found it or found a work around for it. We could not have found a more perfect partnership AND gorgeous venue!!!! 100% recommend!!!

    Torpedo Factory Weddings

Our team over at Your Plan A Events had an amazing wedding weekend at the Torpedo Factory this past weekend. This venue is so unique and truly fit our couples vision of an artistic inspired space. Deri the teams Private Event Coordinator was so easy to work with and the best at communicating through this whole wedding prep process.

    amazing and fun venue

Hosting our wedding at TFAC was the best decision we made. Our July 31, 2021 wedding was originally planned for May 30, 2020, and we postponed the wedding twice. Over the entire time we worked with the coordinator, Deri- over two years- Deri was super responsive, patient, and kind. She supported us through a lot of emotional and difficult decisions to postpone, etc, and was a true rockstar. She was easy to work with, and knowing she was at the helm day-of made us feel at ease because we knew we would have a stress free day- which turned out to be exactly the case! The TFAC is such a fun place to host a wedding because it is a gorgeous and fun location, and it transforms into a beautiful and lively space for a wedding. This venue does require a lot of coordination because you need to hire all of your own vendors, but TFAC has recommended vendors who can provide comprehensive services. Even as someone who sat on the executive board of my college's event planning club, I would recommend hiring a coordinator or planner to help you manage everything.

    Exceptional service - Great place!

We had a great time planning a surprise proposal with the exceptional service given to us by Deri Collingwood, Private Event Rental Manager, Torpedo Factory Art Center. In fact, without Deri's help, I could not have turned a venue turn into a surprise proposal. She helped us throughout the planning the day and decorating of the venue with such confidence, that everything was kept a secret and the surprise proposal itself was as thrilling as the first day. Highly recommend my favorite venue and definitely seek out Deri's recommendations. She knows what is doing.

We got married on 9/15/2018 at the Torpedo Factory and I have to say, this venue blew us away. Being an artist myself, I just absolutely geeked out at having our wedding in an art gallery. My husband loved the factory and industrial feel juxtaposed with the gorgeous lighting and ambiance that transformed the space into a wedding venue.

The event coordinator, Shai, was so incredibly responsive and supportive throughout the whole planning process. She was present during our walk through and answered any and all questions we may have had. She was immediately responsive to emails and so incredibly professional in all that she did. When we were deciding on the venue, she even let us stop by to see another wedding setup to help us make our decision.

The Torpedo Factory has tons of space making a wedding of 100 feel very comfortable and evenly spread out. While it is a bit of a different space, I think that brought a unique vibe to our wedding, which we absolutely loved. Having the entire building was so wonderful. The mezzanine upstairs allowed for guests to spread out to watch our first dance from above, which was SO cool. Talk about awesome photo ops! The TFAC is just so incredibly iconic and placed right on the water. Also, sunset photos on the dock were just the icing on the cake during our cocktail hour!

There are so many wedding venues out there that just want to take your money and run. I must say, the Torpedo Factory is not that. They were well worth every penny and even gave us a discount since my full-time gig is at a non-profit. Not a lot of places do that. I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for an Old Town Alexandria wedding venue.

The Torpedo Factory was initially to serve as our cocktail hour and reception venue. We tented the patio through Sammy’s Rentals for cocktail hour and held the reception indoors. TFAC was wonderful every step of the way. When we needed to postpone our wedding due to personal issues, they went out of their way to make it easy for us. Ultimately, it rained heavily the week before our wedding, so we had to move our ceremony under the tent as well. Shai from TFAC was wonderful to work with and helped us work through the changes. When the wedding at TFAC on Friday night decided that they did not want the tent during their wedding, and we had to move the tent set-up to Saturday afternoon before our wedding that evening, TFAC offered to reimburse us for any fees incurred with the Saturday tent inspection. Everything went very smoothly, and we strongly recommend TFAC.

There are only a few venues in the DC Metro area that can accommodate nearly 200 people for an event. Not only can they accommodate this number, but they have the unique aspect of having the waterfront as well as awesome art galleries for guests to check out during the event. I am so glad we used them for our wedding and would not have done it any differently. Highly recommended!

This was our first and only choice for a venue and we're so glad we worked with TFAC. The space is great for all different group sizes (our party was quite small but they accommodate much more people if you want). It's definitely not a traditional venue, but if you're looking for something different and funky/fun, this is a great bet. There are also elements of art and history related to this venue, so that appeals to some people as well. TFAC works with a lighting vendor that makes the place look absolutely GORGEOUS, so keep that in mind if you visit the place during regular hours (when it's serves as a community/art center open to the public). The space looked truly magical for our wedding ceremony and reception! And they are SUPER easy to work with and accommodating. Best thing is many area vendors have worked there so they all "know the ropes" which makes coordinating things much easier.

We were so so pleased with our wedding at the Torpedo Factory. Shai is incredibly personable and helpful, she has been at the property for a few years so her expertise is priceless. They have a great vendor that they use for lighting and are super flexible with the caterers that you can bring it. I would highly recommend this property for your wedding!

We had an absolutley wonderful experience using the Torpedo Factory as a venue for our recent wedding. We were able to use half of the ground floor space for our ceremony, go upstairs to the 3rd floor for cocktails, and then return to the ground floor to find it transformed with the wedding reception tables and dance floor. The lighting services provided by John Farr lighting absolutely transformed the space and they are so used to working at that venue that setting that up was a breeze. The 3rd floor provided a really unique space for the cocktail hour as the artist studios are kept lit up so our guests could walk around and see the art during that hour. The Torpedo Factory was also able to rent us two individual studios on the 3rd floor which gave us somewhere for the wedding party to get ready before the ceremony and also for the bride and groom to regroup and reflect after the ceremony. Overall I loved how the venue looked beautiful, but because of the industrial nature of the building it also felt very comfortable and unfussy - the kids at the event were able to run around with impunity and people felt comfortable busting out on the dance floor (which by the way was set up great for a live band). The venue's location just off of King Street made it easy for our guests to walk there or take the trolley from the nearby hotels. The ability to use any caterer we wanted (though we ended up using one from the recommended vendors list), and bring in our own alcohol allowed us to tailor the event to our needs and also saved us a significant amount on money. Finally, the customer service from the event director, Shai Chu was excellent. She was organized and helpful, and also personality-wise low key and very easy to work with. The Torpedo factory was able to lend us coat racks, an easel, and a microphone and amplifier for our officiant to use - little details that just helped make the event run smother and were nice to not have to worry about having to bring in. A+!

I hosted a corporate awards event for 170 persons at Torpedo Factory which was outstanding. The venue transformed into a winter wonderland and if you use Design Cuisine, you will not be disappointed! They are an outstanding caterer in every way (my 3rd time using them). Nothing but the highest compliments received from attendees - - go for it! So much better than a stuffy old hotel:-)

I held both my ceremony and reception at this venue. The space is amazing. It's very modern and architecturally interesting, which also made it easy for me to pull off the vision that I was going for. You do have to bring everything in yourself, but they're pretty flexible in letting you choose the vendors. The only required vendor is the lighting guy, and he did a great job so no complaints there.

Shai, the events coordinator, was extremely easy to work with. She was very professional and offered great suggestions and advice when we did the walk through. They were very flexible as well, allowing us to add on services later as we realized we would need them. We were able to rent out a studio for the guys to hang out in before the ceremony and to keep all our stuff in until the end of the night. They also kept the Christmas lights up for me, which I requested, as they added to the ambiance. We went with a black and white theme, with a lot of lights and candles, so it went well.

The location is great, right in the heart of Old Town and in walking distance from a number of hotels and restaurants. It's also a great value. We were able to rent out the entire venue for a very reasonable price. In comparison to other places in the area, you really get a lot for your money.

We chose the Torpedo Factory as our wedding ceremony and reception venue and it was awesome! Tara, the events coordinator was great to work with, she took a lot off stress out of the wedding planning, and even the day of. I always felt like a huge weight was let off my shoulders every time I talked with her. We were a little clueless when we first began looking for venues and once we met Tara and saw the space we knew the Torpedo Factory was it! Once the lighting is set, the space really transforms and made for great pictures. Our guests loved the uniqueness of the venue and loved the convenience of having everything in one place. It's a venue that you can really make your own and will make your wedding stand out amongst others. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone for any event!

This was my first choice from the start, though my husband took a little bit of convincing. It ended up being the perfect location for our wedding reception. We had a sit down dinner for about 100 guests and the layout was perfect for ten tables on one end and the dj, dance floor, and bar at the other. It was easy to move around without feeling like the space was too big for our party. And with the uplighting on the pillars and the candles on the tables it looked magical. It really is a space that you can turn in to anything. We worked with Tara, and she was responsive, personable, and obviously very good at her job. It did take them a long time to send us the bill, but it was the accounting department's fault, and when we were approached about the balance about a month after our wedding they were very courteous.

I couldn't have asked for a better venue in which to be married. It helped us create such a unique environment that represented us. Tara, the events coordinator, was extremely flexible with things we needed for instance we provided our own alcohol so we needed to drop it all off a week prior to the event.

I would highly recommend the Torpedo Factory because you can completely tailor your event to what you want.

We loved working with the Torpedo Factory, especially Shai. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and looks different than many other spaces, which our guests loved. We used all three floors and our guests enjoyed browsing each floor and looking at the studios. Shai was great to work with - very responsive and helpful. It was definitely a little tough not being able to get into the venue before 5pm, but we knew that going into it so we worked around it. I agree with other posters that the exclusive lighting vendor is pricey, but it the lighting ended up perfect. We were so happy to have our wedding at the Torpedo Factory and would definitely recommend it as a wedding venue.

We absolutely loved having our wedding at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. We were excited that the space was unique and right on the water in Old Town. Shai was wonderful to work with and offered us great advice along the way. She always responded quickly and was accommodating to our requests.
You can use almost any vendor you want EXCEPT for lighting. They exclusively use John Farr Lighting which is quite expensive. They did a great job, and my DJ would have done lighting as part of his package. It was disappointing that we had to pay extra for that.
Also, word of warning, we got married on an unusually warm weekend in April. Because it's an older building, the AC had difficulty keeping up.
Aside from the lights (which were still beautiful) and the temperature, we had the most amazing day. We HIGHLY recommend this venue to anyone desiring a different feel to their wedding. Awesome, awesome venue.

The Torpedo Factory was a great wedding venue - our guests loved the location in Old Town which was convenient from DCA as well as area hotels along King Street. Our guests used the free King Street trolley to get to and from events. We had our ceremony in Waterfront Park just two blocks away, cocktail hour on the back patio, and the reception inside. Shai was very helpful during the planning process - and was able to suggest a great method for providing our own alcohol - everything worked out seamlessly. I was on the fence about some of the add-ons but decided to go with the lighting design package from John Farr and I think that was a huge part in transforming the look of the space - so is money well spent. The only slightly tricky part is there is a tight load-in timeline because the building is open to the public until 5pm - so I'd suggest caterers who are familiar with the venue - and having someone to coordiate the logistics of the quick turnaround time (we used a day-of-coordinator and it was an excellent decision!) Otherwise everyone raved about how cool the venue was, how nice it was to be located right on the water, and one guest even remarked he really enjoyed eating dinner right next to a torpedo! Definiately a much more unique space than a hotel ballroom - and you have a ton of afterparty locations a block or two walk away. Highly recommend!

The Torpedo Factory Art Center was the only event site that we looked at when searching for our ceremony and reception location. We knew we wanted it the second we walked through the doors. It's a wonderful community space that was transformed into a beautiful, elegant location for our special day. The location in Old Town was great as well. We definitely had to pinch pennies in other wedding budget areas in order to afford the rental fee ($4,000) for the night, but it was worth it. Because it's an art center filled with valuable work, there were some limitations on timing and decorations and there were extra costs for insurance and the liquor license. But the event manager and other staff were friendly and more than helpful. They played an integral part in the success of our rehearsal and in the perfect flow of our event on the wedding day. We could not have been happier with how it all turned out.

    Excellent Waterfront Wedding Venue

We loved our wedding at the Torpedo Factory. It's location and cool setting helped make our wedding amazing. The Torpedo Factory's event lead, Deri, was great to work with and very helpful as it came to making sure we had all the things we needed for the wedding. They have a ton of supplies that can help save you from renting from someone else. If you want a huge dance floor I can't recommend this place enough. Overall, this is a great choice for a city, waterfront wedding for a good price.

    Great Wedding Venue

My husband and I recently were married at the Torpedo Factory Art Center on May 13, 2023. We fell in love with the venue the minute we walked in. It is such a unique venue being a live art gallery during the day and transforms into a private venue at night. The venue is right on the water with a beautiful view of National Harbor. We loved the industrial vibe which fit our theme perfectly. We needed a place that could fit our unique theme and fun vibe and it was perfect. Not only was it a perfect place for our wedding the staff was unbelievably helpful. Deri and Joslyn the two even coordinators who worked with us and our wedding planner tirelessly wen above and beyond to make sure our special day went as smoothly as possible. You will not find a wedding venue that cares more about you or your wedding. I am a person who has worked in customer service since I was young and my service expectations are high and they exceeded all my expectations. I highly recommend using the Torpedo Factory for your next big event you will not be sorry.

    We love TFAC!

We held our wedding at TFAC and it was INCREDIBLE! Event staff were so helpful and easy to work with, and we loved that it was a unique location that was special to us. We got SO many compliments on the space! Highly recommend if you're looking for a venue with art, history, and lots of charm!

The whole Torpedo Factory staff was amazing! They were so professional and responsive. The TF works so well with other vendors to ensure you have an amazing night. The venue is absolutely stunning with the uplighting! It was everything we had dreamed of for a wedding venue!

We are so happy we held our wedding ceremony and reception at the Torpedo Factory. It’s location in downtown Alexandria is extremely convenient, especially for out-of-town guests flying into DCA. We reserved hotel blocks at the Hotel Monaco and Sheraton in Old Town, so most of our guests were able to walk right over.

The space itself is funky and fun, and while it’s big enough to accommodate at least a 210-person wedding, our ceremony and reception still felt intimate. We had our ceremony and reception on the ground floor with the cocktail hour on the second-floor catwalk (that did get a bit crowded), and we also rented a studio on the 3rd floor to hang out in before the ceremony.

Shai, the events coordinator, was extremely easy to work with and had really great suggestions about how to best organize the room, etc. She wasn’t on-site with us day-of, but we worked with Rich on last-minute details and he was also very nice and accommodating.

    Other pros:
    • We could bring in our own alcohol, which saved a lot of money.
    • You have to rent all your equipment separately, but all their recommended vendors were great.
    • Reasonably priced, especially for such a large venue in such a fun, convenient location.
    • Access to a storage closet where we could store our items in advance and pick up after the wedding – not need to lug everything back to the hotel with us at the end of the night.

The only downside is that the facility is open to the public until 5 p.m. on Saturdays, so the earliest we could start our ceremony was at 6:30 (and that required a ton of legwork/extra catering staff).

I loved the space in the Torpedo Factory for our reception. We had a seated dinner for 150, with one side for tables and the other for band/dancing/bar. The cocktail hour was on the second floor and everyone really liked walking around and peeking in the studios (even though the lights were off). With the professional lighting it turned the industrial space into a very elegant setting and it looked amazing! Tara was great to work with - loved her personality. It does get a little pricey since you have to rent your own tables/chairs/etc., but being able to purchase your own alcohol is a HUGE cost savings!

We also strung up globe string lights over the balconies to look like a garden party - it was a lot of work but totally worth it! Tara was hugely helpful in taking them down for us. Definitely check out the Torpedo Factory for an event space, our guests really liked having the option to walk around Old Town during the day and see what a cute neighborhood it is.

The TFAC is clearly not your typical wedding ceremony/reception venue, but if you're looking for something different, it can be transformed into a spectacular and impressive space. The events coordinator Tara was always very accessible by email and answered any questions quickly and thoroughly. It is relatively pricey, especially considering that you are only paying for the space itself, no rental equipment is included and must be rented separately or through your caterer. One key thing to keep in mind though is that your vendors cannot access the space to set up until the TFAC closes at 5 p.m. So you must plan accordingly to allow your vendors enough set up time before your guests come in and the ceremony begins. We rented all 3 floors, so that our guests could hang out on floors 2 and 3 during cocktail hour while the 1st floor was flipped for the reception. Our guests LOVED the location and have been raving ever since about how unique it was and really provided them with things to do while they socialized (like checking out the artwork through studio windows). A 3rd floor studio was also available for rent and we used that space for the bridal party to get dressed and ready.

We had both our ceremony and reception at the Torpedo Art Factory in November 2013. I was blown away with who amazing everything turned out. The lighting and the layout of the space is amazing and unique. You have to pay for the lighting in addition to the venue and make sure if you have your ceremony there to get the backdrop from John Farr Lighting to cover the stairwell, it's worth the extra cost. Our friends and family are still talking about what a great time they had at our wedding.

We were looking for a different place for our wedding reception and the Torpedo Factory was absolutely perfect to suit our needs. I LOVED it. I fell in love when I saw pictures online and was sold as soon as I walked in the door - even though it looks very different during the day versus at night set up for an event. It was a bit pricier than I would have liked, and having a reception there as opposed to somewhere that has a room set up for events all the time means that all of the tables, chairs, etc. have to be rented and brought in (and paid for). It gives you more flexibility to set it up literally exactly how you want it to look but it comes at a price. We were able to have an amazing set up and still stick to close to our budget, it's just something to consider. I wouldn't have changed a thing though - everyone had an amazing time at our reception and a lot of people commented on the cool venue that we chose. We had about 150 people and didn't feel cramped at all. I don't know how easy it would be to have more like 220 like the information says you can have in that space but we were fine with 150 and you could definitely easily do 175 or so but it might get more cramped if you go 200+ if you want to have certain table set ups. It was fantastic, end of story. HIGHLY recommended.

The venue is unusual, and I'd recommend it for couples looking for something more modern and unconventional. Together with a lighting service (which is contracted and paid for separately), the space can be made to look quite extraordinary, with colorful uplighting on the columns. We had the ceremony on one side of the first floor, then had a cocktail hour on the second floor, which cost a little extra to rent. That was awesome--the second floor has catwalks and people could look in on the art studios while they had a drink. Then they headed down to the first floor again for dinner, which took place on the other side of the first floor. The ceremony space became a dance floor. We had about 125 people.
The woman who coordinates weddings, Tara, is really great. She is flexible, creative, accessible and explains things well. She knows the space well and was helpful in helping us figure out where everything should go.
One small drawback of the space is that, based on when the venue becomes available and when it has to shut down, there is not much of a window for caterers to set up and dismantle if you want a five-hour wedding. Our caterer was concerned about this but made it work. It's important that your caterer know about the timing issues going in, so they can staff accordingly in order to have enough people to do the job fast.

Finding a unique venue (NOT a hotel ballroom) that can fit between 180 and 250 people is no easy task in the DC area. We chose the Torpedo Factory for a few reasons. 1. Its close to National Airport for those flying 2. It's in Old Town--which is a perfect destination for out of towners (lots to do, see, and places to eat) and a convenient neighborhood for locals (metro accessible and parking garage-friendly). 3. A wide variety of hotels within walking distance 4. Affordable rental fee... 5. BUT--most importantly--the atmosphere of the venue itself. With lighting, linens, and event furniture--the venue truly offers a unique and memorable atmosphere. If you choose to go with this venue--I recommend a "reception" flow in lieu of sit-down dinner. It's the type of space you want people exploring rather than stuck in their seat. I searched high and low all over DC and NOVA and am thrilled we chose the Torpedo Factory!! (The only thing I would change/update would be the bathrooms--but, hey, it used to be a real torpedo factory--so I'm willing to overlook that!!)

We loved the Torpedo Factory for our reception venue! Tara, the Events Coordinator, is very friendly and helpful, but also busy and sometimes a little slow to respond. The setting is very unique and you can totally make it your own. But one piece of advice, this venue requires that bring everything in so it is not for the vendor shy or disorganized. It requires a lot of coordinating. We didn't have any issues despite our many vendors, and would definitely use TFAC as an event venue again!

When we saw the Torpedo Factory, we knew that we wanted our wedding there. It's such a unique space -- it's got an industrial feel, but when they add in the lights, it's almost ethereal. Shai, the events coordinator, is extremely responsive -- she'll respond within minutes sometimes to an email. There are challenges to using this space though. It's an empty canvas, so you have to bring in chairs, tables, etc. However, we used one of their preferred caterers, and they were able to bring in the tables and chairs and everything. Additionally, the venue is open to the public until 5 pm, so the caterers have a time crunch and you can't really start your ceremony until 6:30 pm. We started at 6:30 and ended at 11:45 pm -- our ceremony was quite short, so the rest of the time was for the reception. Price wise, it's about standard for venues in this area. If you're fine with some of the challenges, you'll get a really beautiful, unique venue for your wedding (it's not a barn or a vineyard!) . I loved the space, and all my guests remarked on how beautiful everything was.

My husband and I were looking for a venue that was a departure from a boring hotel room with plain walls. We loved the Torpedo Factory because of its history and presence in the Old Town community. It depends on the couple whether it's a pro or con that all you're given is the space, and you have to find the individual vendors on your own. It was a pro for us because we wanted to have unique catering, and DIY decorations. Tara is an amazing person and great to work with. If you book the Torpedo Factory, don't expect her to be as swift with communication until it gets closer to the date, because she's probably busy with weddings that are sooner. I would also strongly suggest if you choose this place to get a wedding planner. As I said, you have to find all the vendors yourself since the space is all you get, and a wedding planner is great to have someone help you keep all your contacts/payments/inquiries together.

Awesome place to get married if you are looking for something different. We had a non-denominational ceremony there and a beautiful reception. Make sure you take care of the lighting here- it is even more important than the flowers. We took pictures on the water after the ceremony too. Just an all around great location.

The Torpedo Factory is a great venue for an alternative/funky wedding for 100 people or less. We used one side for the ceremony and the other side for our reception. The location in Old Town is great (lots of hotel options, bars and fun shops for guests) and for us the non-traditional space was a real plus. We did very few flowers, and instead spent the money on a lighting designer (light effects on the industrial poles and the ceiling) and bringing in really huge plants to define the space. Our wedding was very us and incredibly memorable for our guests and the space was a big part of it.
The staff was helpful--the team on duty the night of our wedding was really nice and they were friendly to the guests while not interfering. The events coordinator was neither here nor there, but she made the contract and outside insurance process (you need to get a special insurance policy which cost us about $200) pretty hassle-free.
The Torpedo Factory does make you pay to have security guards posted at the front door (and the back door too if you want guests to be able to go out to the pier--which we did), but the cost was reasonable.
Overall, I highly recommend the Torpedo Factory. The space was a huge part of making our wedding feel special.

We loved having our wedding at the Torpedo Factory! The space is absolutely beautiful for evening events and was perfect for us. We are both pretty artistic and wanted a unique space to have our wedding. As part of the venue cost, the Torpedo Factory removes and cover the aspects in the lobby that show that it's an art gallery (i.e., covering on the galley gift shop, removal of chairs) and it looks like an empty, but stunning industrial space. With the addition of lighting, it's breathtaking. The base price for the venue is also a great value for the DC area. Also, the ability to hold the entire wedding (ceremony, cocktail reception, and dinner) for 150+ guests in one space is incredible. Our guests commented about how nice it was that they didn't have to travel to another space for the reception.

As another reviewer mentioned there are a few drawbacks with this particular space, however. You can't get into venue until 5 PM, which makes it a little difficult for all of your vendors and for your guests. The earliest we were able to start dinner was 7:45/8:00PM because we also had our ceremony at Torpedo Factory. If you have your ceremony elsewhere, the earliest you can start is 6:30PM. We used Main Event Catering because of their familiarity with the space and they were phenomenal and were able to load up our guests on heavy hors d'oeuvres to help compensate. We still got a couple of complaints about the late start, however. Something else to note, is that you have to use the space's lighting vendor and it's not cheap. Just this vendor alone could be a $1.5k+ add-on. We loved the lighting, but it's just something to think about. Also, they don't provide tables and chairs, which means you will need to rent those through your caterer or through a separate vendor.

We are overall really happy with the venue and everyone raved about how beautiful our wedding was!

I love the look of the space. It's open and can totally be transformed based on your vision. You must use a pre-approved list of vendors, which ended up working out but was somewhat of a pain. The space looked beautiful for the reception. Lighting is a must, which was an added cost, but worth it in the end. The guests loved the history of the building and that is was actually once a torpedo factory. We also did a tent on the back patio for cocktails, which got great reviews from guests.

This was one of our favorite things about the whole reception. We knew that we didn't want a typical "cookie-cutter hotel" wedding nor did we want anything that was historical, because of all the rules they have with those places. The TFAC was perfect because it let us really personalize what we wanted in the space. It's probably not the "cheapest" option, but it definitely lets you take total control of what you want your reception to be/look like.

My husband and I had a lot of sentimental attachment to the Torpedo Factory Art Center. On our wedding day everything was beautiful and we got a lot of compliments on how great it looked. Our one complaint with the Torpedo Factory was that we were told less than two weeks before our wedding at our walk through that the event coordinator would not be at the Torpedo Factory that night. Then, even on wedding night, we never met the replacement coordinator. Everything went smoothly, but this was somewhat unsettling. This was an area where I think our Caterer's previous experience with the venue was what really made everything run smoothly rather than the TFAC's service.

The Torpedo Factory was the PERFECT venue for our wedding! It's an artsy space that also feels like a blank canvas, so it's perfect if you're looking for a city chic vibe but also want your wedding theme and decor to stand out. It's right on the water with boats and a pier, which makes for beautiful photos and a nice backdrop for the cocktail hour. The third floor (where we had our Ketubah signing) is filled with artists' galleries with funky art, which was another great setting...and not a bad plan B if you need to hold your cocktail hour inside.

A few downsides... 1. You can't get in until 5pm. After booking, we quickly realized that vendors need way more time to set up. As a result, we had to pay extra for the caterer to bring additional help and our band was not able to test their sound equipment before they played. 2. The coordinator, Shai, is difficult to work with. She responded quickly on email but the answers were usually short and confusing. We had to rent our own ropes for the cocktail hour (venue's requirement) and Shai told us we needed three times as much rope as we needed, which resulted in hundreds of dollars of unnecessary rental costs. She also never received the final payments we sent, and tried to track us all down the morning after the wedding when we were still celebrating with friends and family.

Overall, I'm glad we held our wedding at The Torpedo Factory, just make sure to ask a lot of questions and make sure it works for your timeline!

We wanted to do something different for our reception, and went with this place. It's an awesome venue, but not worth the money. We had to work with one person, the Special Events Director, and that was a nightmare. At first she was awesome. But after the deposit was paid, there were a lot of issues that came up and a lot of hidden details that were left out at our initial meetings. As much as I loved our reception, we could've gotten more for our money somewhere else. Just beware, if you book this space you basically get nothing. It's just a shell. We spent a lot of money to make it look good. Rought around $20K more than what we had or wanted to spend. Be cautious... cool venue... it's different... but it's just a shell.
