Robert was INCREDIBLE! Who else would be willing to walk down to Ash Cave (Hocking Hills) with us and our dog in the middle of Febreuary for a small elopement ceremony?! Robert was totally down for it! Unfortunately, the night before, my husband and I decided to enact our backup plan of having our ceremony at our cabin (too icy outside, but that's what backup plans are for), and Robert was awesome in his flexibility, too. He was so kind and professional, and the ceremony was exactly what we had wanted. We loved that he got to know us a little bit beforehand. And a major added bonus was that our dog (my "man of honor" lol) LOVED him! Just good vibes all around from this person. We are so happy that we contacted Robert to be our officiant. Robert was absolutely fantastic to work with. All of our guests loved his energy and gift for storytelling. His method of recounting your journey together is a great way to catch up your guests who may not know as much about the relationship or the person marrying the person they came to support. It’s also entertaining and a bit nostalgic for those who have been along for the whole ride. My (groom’s) great aunt said that he was easily the best officiant she had ever seen, and in case her title didn’t make it clear, she’s seen quite a few weddings in her time so that is high praise.

An Amazing Wedding Officiant!
Robert was one of the best decisions we made when it came to our wedding. He really took the time to get to know us and wrote a beautiful speech that really captured exactly who we are and what we wanted. It was so sweet and very funny. He took the time to make our ceremony so unique and genuine. Several of our guests even asked if he was a family friend. Amazing Service on Short Notice
My wife and I were in a bind when our planned officiant cancelled on us, and so we hired Robert roughly 4 weeks before our wedding in a panic. His communication was clear from the beginning that he had two other ceremonies scheduled on the same day as our wedding, and that his service might be delayed or below standard, but he was clearly being modest because his service was exceptional from start to finish even with severe constraints.
We received a draft of our speech in a very timely manner after our meeting with him, and we even made several last minute changes that Robert handled with a level of professionalism which showed a tremendous experience at his craft. We had an absolutely amazing experience working with him, and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an officiant who is both friendly and accommodating. Just maybe give him some more time to work than we did because I am sure he would appreciate it!

We didn't have the foggiest idea of how to go about getting married, so I reached out to Robert, the Uncommon Officiant. Robert explained the process to me, and we agreed on a date and time. Robert was willing to go along with our wacky desire to get to an overgrown gazebo, hacking our way through jungle-like vegetation to reach our destination, leaving us all covered in pollen! Personal, perfect, and okay with rain
Robert was great and helped us immensely with our crazy COVID-19 wedding that we planned in less than two months. He conducted an extensive interview in order to create the most personal and individualized service we could have imagined (AND he also laughed at all of our "cute" stories that he has probably heard from other couples a billion times). It also downpoured during our outdoor ceremony in the middle of the woods and he never complained as he signed our wedding license kneeling in front of our car in the pouring rain (we forgot it in the car, like a couple of newbies). Anyway, could not recommend him more! Our parents still talk about the personal ceremony we had!

Their ceremony was so sweet and personal, as soon as I got engaged, Robert was the first person I called! Working with him on the ceremony was so much fun. He met with us to get all the details of our relationship and how we met and why we love each other. Everyone Thought He Was a Close Friend!
We selected Robert for our May 31st wedding and could NOT be happier! He understood our desire to mix traditional with nontraditional and was willing to not only tolerate but participate in our wacky sense of humor. Our ceremony was so personal, well written and orated that even with a small close group of 75 guests, people still thought Robert was a close friend of ours they didn't know! Robert even went out of his way to do a separate rehearsal with us before meeting with the venue to help ensure our kids had an understanding of what to expect. Robert made our wedding so special. My (now) husband and I met him after reading his profile online and all of the feedback from his previous couples. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. He wrote such a beautiful ceremony for us, and everyone was so impressed with the quality of it all. We also had a Dr. Who themed wedding, and Robert wore red high-tops to our wedding, which was SO perfect! He spoke clearly and with so much personality. He was fun. He was amazing. Robert is a great officiant and just as great writer. He totally personalized our ceremony and made it perfect. Best officiant ever!
Robert was absolutely amazing to work with, and my husband and I could not have asked for a better officiant for our wedding! He met with us several months before our big day to learn about the details of how we met, our relationship, etc. We were both so impressed and so happy with the ceremony script that he drafted based on that meeting alone. It captured our relationship perfectly, incorporated the unique elements we asked for, had a great sense of humor to it, and required very little editing on our part. Robert was also extremely helpful and so fun to work with when it came to both our rehearsal and our actual ceremony. We had so many family and friends come up to us throughout our reception to tell us how much they loved the ceremony, and that it was one of the best wedding ceremonies they had ever seen. Many of our family and friends also asked us how long we have known Robert, and were so surprised to hear that we had only met him recently, which I think speaks to how good he is at what he does. Exactly who we needed
We started out our wedding planning journey struggling a bit because no one talks about who marries you if you're not religious, and you don't "just want to go down to the courthouse"...enter Robert. From the first messages we exchanged, he was very patient and professional with us, and immediately after we met up for the first time, he put us at ease - it was like we had known him forever He is definitely "our kind of people". The ceremony he drafted had me crying and laughing all at the same time; it was exactly what we wanted. He shared most of our geeky tendencies, and was absolutely tickled when we asked him to come dressed as his favorite Doctor Who regeneration! (happened to be the same as me; 10....!!!)
Every single person who I talked to said it was the perfect representation of us, and we couldn't agree more! We were laughing the entire day, and the photos are the proof - it was perfect. I sincerely appreciate all of the work that he put in for us, for not laughing at us during our Shotski ceremony (LOL), and for making our big day one of the most memorable experiences of our lives

We decided to have an unconventional wedding, and we needed someone to marry us. We planned a costume Halloween party - that turned into a wedding. Robert met with us to talk about our plans, and we spent about an hour and a half together talking. The next day, Robert sent the 'script' and ceremony plan. He had nailed it! We were thrilled when he had time for us during our big day. We first contacted him through his website and were very excited when we found him. We read his profile and knew that he was the perfect officiant for our wedding. When we first met with Robert, it was a casual meeting at a nearby coffee shop. We talked all about our relationship, how we met, and how we feel about each other. We talked about our nerdy sides and was delighted to receive the first draft for the ceremony. He had finished the first draft earlier than he normal does and it was absolutely perfect. We had a few minor details we wanted to change, but he took our notes well and made the appropriate adjustments for us. We received a ton of compliments about Robert after the ceremony. Everyone absolutely loved him. He did such a great job portraying my husband and I in the ceremony and even got in on our unity ceremony (we did a selfie with a selfie-stick) surprise! I have already had a few people ask about booking him for their future ceremonies because they loved him so much! We are beyond happy with how everything turned out and could not have found a better person to be our officiant. 10/10 would definitely recommend Robert to anyone that is looking for a great non-denominational officiant who is also willing to do anything you want for the ceremony.

Rev. Woof was so perfect for our Lord of the Rings themed wedding! He wrote a ceremony that perfectly captured our personalities and that included all the elements that were important to us. He was very flexible with ceremony content and delivered such a unique performance that had all of our guests wowed. We were super pleased with our Robert! He was so funny and all our guests loved him! I was laughing through the whole ceremony. It was definitely not a boring ceremony! He was reliable, always showed up on time. He spent plenty of time getting to know up before the wedding and really learning our love story, so much that many of the guests thought he was one of our friends! Robert was our officiant for our wedding and we could not be happier with our choice. From the moment we met with him, he fully listened to us, absorbed our vision, and created an epically beautiful ceremony! Our ceremony was both Persian and American; Robert mixed in both elements of our cultures with great finesse. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!!! I cannot say how much I loved this guy! He wrote a specific and tailored ceremony that encompassed us a couple, friends, and our hobbies. It wasnt drawn out, boring, and people laughed and cried. He brought emotions out of us that we didnt even know we had til he said a moment we shared in the past or asked us about our vows.
Few notes:
-Non religious (neither us are so no problems there!)
-He loves costumes!!! He wore a top hat and kilt but looked classy as ****!
-He made us feel comfortable and relaxed
He communicates via email and will meet with you over coffee to get to know you better. I cannot say how much he set the tone for the wedding because everyone ADORED him.

Robert is a fantastic officiant! We told him our story and in return he showed us the epic quest we had forged together! We knew we'd found the one who would marry us, to each other that is! Our wedding was held on Sunday; April 24th, 2016. It was an outdoor wedding in the park and the weather was perfect! Our Dungeons and Dragons/Final Fantasy theme was the best! It was absolutely a magical day filled with joy, laughter and affection! Love and happiness filled that entire day! Reverend Robert Woof did a phenomenal job and even went beyond the call of duty to announce us to our guests at the reception! When my husband and I first started planning our wedding, one of our biggest worries was our ceremony. It was the most important piece of the day, but creating a non-religious ceremony that did not offend any of our religious family members seemed like a daunting task. Enter The Uncommon Officiant Robert Kannal. From the moment he walked into the Starbucks where we met, I knew he was the perfect person to conduct our ceremony. We spent the next 3 hours talking, about the wedding, the story of how we met, and geeking out about all of the nerdy things we all loved. I got an email that night containing a rough draft of our ceremony that made me cry. Robert had managed to, in that short meeting, capture exactly who we were as people, and who we were as a couple. He managed to seamlessly incorporate a traditional feeling ceremony with completely untraditional wording, experiences, and vows. He made the most important part of our day the most amazing part. Our guests kept telling us all night how perfect the ceremony was and how awesome it was that it was completely about us in every way. They also though Robert was amazingly emotional and hilarious. I can not thank Robert enough for all the work he did to make our ceremony the ceremony of our dreams. I would HIGHLY recommend Robert to anyone who is getting married.

Reverend Woof did an excellent job of being the officiant for our wedding! He was able to work around my (groom) night shift schedule and the wife's day shift schedule to get to know us over a phone call. He retained everything we spoke about very well, and was able to paint a picture of who we are and why we chose to get married. This translated into the perfect ceremony, and we couldn't be happier with choosing him.
He was even able to do our ceremony on a week's notice, and on a Wednesday evening at that! We highly recommend him to anyone looking for an alternative wedding officiant. We opted to do a short ceremony, with a hand-fasting ritual and no religion involved. Reverend Woof was more than happy to do this for us, and did it well!

Robert was great to work with and made our special day even better. The vows he wrote where spot on for us and he really took the time to make sure it was what we wanted. The fact that he was willing to meet us and write such fun vows on a few weeks notice, then to top it off he dressed up like Two-Face (Batman villain). It was perfect. We called him last minute when our friend backed down on us. He did a wonderful job with the ceremony. Was very charismatic and well spoken. Some of our guest even though he was a friend of ours. They said he spoke about us like he knew us. After the ceremony he stayed around for some food and mingled with our guest. Everybody was very impressed with him.

My fiance and I were the uncommon couple. We met online through a game we played together, fell in love, and moved across the country to be with one another. We wanted a nonreligious, nontraditional ceremony and were having such a hard time finding someone to marry us that wouldn't mind that we weren't religious. Then we stumbled across The Uncommon Officiant. His website alone sold us. What we read was exactly how we felt and The Uncommon Officiant was exactly what we wanted in a wedding officiant. We met at Starbucks to meet and chat, and instantly we knew that he was the missing piece to our wedding puzzle! He asked us how we met, so we poured our story out onto the table, and from what we said during that short meeting at Starbucks, he constructed the most amazing ceremony! Not only did it provide the audience with our intricate love story, but he added little jokes that just had the crowd sitting on the edge of their seat listening intently to every word. No one was bored at that wedding ceremony, I'll tell ya that! Everyone loved him at our wedding! All I can say about the uncommon officiant is wow! When looking for an officiant for our wedding ceremony my husband and I were very picky, we wanted someone who would perform the ceremony in a non religious way and also give our guests a "show". The uncommon officiant assure us he was up to the task and boy was he! We met with the officiant about 2 months before the wedding to get to know each other. The uncommon officiant notes about my husband and I and asked a bunch of questions to really get to know our relationship and personality. The ceremony was very unique to our guests and we received many compliments regarding the officiant. The uncommon officiant really understood what we were wanting and also gave really good suggestion that we hadn't thought of. I would recommend the uncommon officiant to anyone who is getting married. He also wore a top hat, top hats are AWESOME!!

Where does one begin to extol Rev Woof's talents?!?! This man who was ready and willing to play the Impressive Clergyman from The Princess Bride for our wedding ceremony, funny voice and all?!?! If you are looking for a non-traditional or even a traditional officiator, Robert Kannal Jr. aka Woof, is the guy to go too! So let's begin. My GF (now wife) and I decided to do our ceremony very last minute. We are talking 3 weeks of planning. A friend of ours had to back out and I desperately needed someone to fill his place, and that was affordable. Looking around the internet, i came across Robert's profile. Looking into the reviews from others, and what he can do, i decided to give him a call. He answered immediately, and without hesitation, he made it work! After a few emails back and forth, myself and my wife felt very comfortable and we setup a face to face meet to discuss the event. Upon meeting him, he had a smile on his face and worked with us from the start. Even throwing in a few of his ideas that were perfect for our small ceremony! His actual "speech" he hand written was on point and felt very personal. He met us on a good price, and everything was squared away with no miscommunication at all. I would HIGHLY recommend him for any type of wedding you may be planning. I even asked him to dress up in a Darth Vader costume, and he obliged but the wife had to put that idea down (hehe it was her day). I would personally like to thank him for everything!

2 perfect ceremonies!
Robert officiated our small wedding last winter and then our vow renewal last weekend. He created each ceremony to perfectly fit our style and sense of humor. He did such a thoughtful job telling our love story. He was always professional, even throughout at least a dozen plan changes due to covid. He sent us a ceremony draft a few weeks before the event and was incredibly gracious about accepting feedback. On the day of the wedding he coordinated perfectly with our dj and Event Coordinator. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Robert was wonderful. We met him in a Panera bread near our home to discuss what we wanted for the ceremony, and to tell him about us. We got the script for our ceremony about a week before the wedding, we had very few changes. As a former full time and current part time English teacher, Robert wrote very well. Robert was amazing! He was the first officiant my now-husband and I spoke with, and turned out to be the only one, since we knew that day that he would be great. He sat down with us and asked us all kinds of questions about "our story," what we love about each other, and exactly what we wanted in a ceremony. The result was a ceremony that was perfectly "us," mixing the traditional with the hilarious with the personal. He sent us his script over a week before the wedding, giving us ample time to go over every word and detail, and happily incorporating each edit we made (not that there were many!). Our crowd laughed and cried, and my father said it was the best ceremony he has ever seen or heard of. Oh, and the handfasting was wonderful! We selected Robert several months before our wedding because we liked his sense of humor and felt as ease with him upon our first meeting. He took more than an hour to interview us about our relationship and how we envisioned our ceremony. He took copious notes and he sent us the first draft a couple of weeks before the wedding for review and revision. My husband and I both loved the humorous twists he put into the ceremony as we both enjoy a good laugh. Our guests thought the ceremony was enjoyable and even commented that it was the best wedding ceremony they ever attended. When selecting vendors it is wise to remember that the officiant is the most important vendor you can choose and it should occur early in the planning stages. The wedding won't happen without one and the more thought and time put into choosing the right officiant the better. I highly recommend Robert if you want a non-denominational wedding ceremony. His writing style and sense of humor made our ceremony the most memorable part of the day.

Showed up late, didn't call.
Our wedding was to start at 6pm. He was to be there 530-545. The bride had to call him while she was tending to stressful last-minute adjustments, only to find out he was stuck in traffic, offering no apology. He arrived 6:10-6:15 and offered no apology to me at the "altar" or to either of after the wedding. I imagine that was so he could protect himself from any liability afterward, had we tried to get any money back. If you are reading this and considering his services, trust me, you will be very nervous about things going right, and it would be a big relief if the officiant was there more like 45 minutes early so you can "check off that box" as the ceremony nears. I would request that of Robert and discuss contingency plans. It would appear by his reviews that our experience was out of the ordinary, but his failure to plan for it, failure to call us proactively when he was in traffic, and failure to offer any apology find me not recommending him to you. He was a stickler for charging us if extra people attended but did not seem to apply that rigor or discipline to himself.
Aside from that, the ceremony itself was OK. He seemed to be acting a bit as opposed to natural, and he did not apply one of the edits to his speech that I had provided a week before the ceremony. The moment of our vows and wedding itself was beautiful, and he adhered to everything we planned.
He showed up to the initial interview in JNCO jeans, but we discussed attire, and he accommodated, wearing black and white to match my tux as agreed to....so that should be an easy conversation and nothing to stress about on the day of.

Steer clear. We went with him because we literally could not find anybody else. When we first met he was very unprofessional- dirty shirt, dirty fingernails, etc. He listened to our story and took notes (which I had to edit quite a bit still in the draft), we later paid him, received no invoice or contract or anything, and he was unable to be reached for like a week. We thought he took our money and ran. Since then he has been very difficult to communicate with. He had one excuse that he was closing on his house, and that they were camping out of cell service, but this happened frequently and we are still the paying customer. I got the last draft the day before the wedding. PLUS I basically rewrote the word document. He wrote in a way that I learned in high school NOT to do (like beginning 3 sentences in a row with the same word). It's just ridiculous that we paid so much for that. I will say that the ceremony went off without a hitch but I thought it was gonna be a total flop.
