The Best Chicago Photographers

Words cannot express how highly we recommend The Spragues. Katherine and Daniel are two of the sweetest and coolest people ever and they made us feel immediately comfortable working with them. They took both our engagement wedding photos and we got a TON of amazing images that had been composed and edited with attention to detail and care. Their style is unique, artsy, and modern. They were able to capture the feel of our romantic Chicago wedding with a timeless style that is so characteristically THEM as artists but also US as a couple.

The wedding day goes by so fast that I was worried I would miss out on some of the details, but their photography captured every important moment, detail, and aspect of the day. Not only that, but they also delivered our full wedding album on CHRISTMAS DAY (the best present), which really captured their thoughtfulness and how much they care about the couples they work with.

Cannot recommend working with them enough! My one piece of advice is to put the extra money towards hiring both photographers (Katherine and Daniel) as a team—they were able to shoot in multiple places at the same time and working with both of them was truly special! Best decision we made!

Book them now, you won't regret it.

Kate and Dan are exactly what you want in wedding photographers — obviously wildly talented (their portfolio speaks for itself), but beyond that they are great with communication, patient with questions, willing to throw around ideas and best of all, see things that look like road blocks to you (like rain or a shut down bridge) as opportunities for a great shot. So from a professional standpoint, I had peace of mind knowing we were in good hands which is honestly priceless when you're planning a wedding. On top of that, Dan and Kate are just so personable that we were able to relax and be ourselves around them so we aren't stiff and awkward in the photos. They're the best

Highly Recommended

Kate and Dan were amazing! We weren't quite sure what we wanted, but that didn't stop them from delivering photos we will love forever. Not only did they produce beautiful images to remember our special day, but they were able to suggest so many fantastic locations to shoot around Chicago. They are a great team that is easy to work with, extremely creative, and clearly know what they are doing. Highly recommend to anyone needing photographers.

I cannot recommend The Spragues enough! Katherine and Daniel are an incredible husband-wife duo that not only made our wedding day enjoyable, but produced the most beautiful photos by which to remember it! They are both laid back, yet kept us on schedule; they focus on capturing the day as it happens with unplanned moments. One of a kind and seamless

My photos are the most unique photos i have ever seen and I love each and every one of them. The way the moment is captured from the ceremony, portraits and just candid ones makes we so happy to look back on this day time and time again. The Spragues are awesome!

If you're considering hiring the Spragues, do it! Their photos are absolutely incredible, and they're a joy to work with. I compared a bunch of different photographers' photos before choosing the Spragues, and their photos are way better than any other photos I saw. Kate and Daniel were fun, flexible, and helpful at our wedding. And, of course most importantly, I love our wedding photos! I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Book the spragues!

Daniel and Katherine shot our wedding in Vermont last summer (June 2019) and we feel so extremely lucky they did. The photographs were gorgeous and the price (especially the travel aspect) was very reasonable. Biggest thing, though, on top of being crazy talented and creative, they added such an easygoing vibe to the whole day -- we were a little nervous that no matter who we hired we would feel unnatural being photographed and the pictures would reflect that -- they were the complete opposite. They are so laid back, they feel like friends almost instantly and it's more like having an extra bridesmaid/groomsman on the scene, rather than a photographer. Daniel was our point of contact after the wedding and was super helpful/accessible in creating a catalog and even advising on photo book options. (And since then, I have even had a beer with him in L.A.). These guys rock and we look forward to staying in touch over the years. If you hire them, you will not regret it.

Incredible photographers

Choosing the Spragues for our wedding was by far the best decision we made for our wedding.
When we started looking at photographers for our wedding, we were committed to budgeting to whatever photographer was our favorite. After all, a wedding is only one day but the photographs last forever, right? We narrowed our favorites down to 3-5 photographers, and we chose the Spragues to do our engagement shoot. We knew before we got our engagement pictures back that we wanted Dan and Kate to shoot our wedding - they are the type of people that make you think you’ve known each other for years. And then, we got our engagement pictures back; surprise surprise, they were fantastic! We just had our wedding a couple weeks ago and we had the best. day. ever.

Dan & Kate are a special photography duo!

Dan and Kate are a fantastic duo- and they made our wedding day so special. We were lucky enough to have them take our engagement and wedding photos, and their style and perspective matched what we were looking for exactly. They're positive, upbeat, and know how to frame the perfect shot- one of my favorite photos of they took of our wedding resembles the moment exactly as I remember it happening live; they're fabulous.

In addition to their awesome photography skills, they made our day easy and fun. Kate was a lifesaver when it came to bustling my dress (no thanks to my mom...), and Dan had a blast with our friends and family, dancing and celebrating with us.

If you're going to splurge on one thing... it's The Spragues

I was given wedding planning advice that the one thing worth spending money on is a photographer because after it's all over it's all you'll have left, memories. I took that advice to heart and my partner and I decided to go with our dream photographers, Dan & Kate Sprague. We saw their work from a friends wedding and were floored by the absolute beauty of their work. Throughout the whole process, Dan & Kate were responsive, patient (we asked for sneak peek photos and they indulged) and personable. On the day of, they were timely and kind. It was like working with the perfect professionals who you wouldn't mind also grabbing a drink with, because they both made you feel comfortable. We received our photos at the beginning of this year and cannot stop looking at them. We've received so many compliments and am so thrilled that these are the photos that will be with us forever. I can't understate how truly wonderful they are. Hire them, you won't regret it!

Seriously the best!

Daniel and Kate were an absolute pleasure to work with. Not only is their work bad-ass/stunning/wait is that me, omg that's me, I look amazing, Dan and Kate are two of the most organized and hardest working people we had the pleasure of meeting during our wedding planning. From the moment they walked into our venue, they felt like friends. They danced with us, chatted with our families, and even let our sweet two-year-old nephew snap a few photos with their camera. What I really loved about them was how they let moments happen organically, somehow whenever something beautiful or fun (i.e. tequila shots with our friends, a quiet moment together, the small DIY details we stayed up so late to make) was happening I would look up and Dan or Kate would be there to capture it. Our photos not only capture how our wedding looked, but also how it warm and loving it felt. They both have an incredible and purely raw talent for photography and we will cherish our photos always. Nothing but love for Dan and Kate!

Great results, easy to work with!

Daniel was both a great addition to the party and a professional, organized vendor. I was able to communicate with him easily via email + phone beforehand, ensuring we were aligned on the schedule and expectations of the day. As a producer, I felt confident and prepared for the wedding day. As a bride, I was relieved to be working with such a positive, enjoyable photographer.

My husband and I and the wedding guests loved working with Daniel, and everyone felt natural having their photos taken. The photos turned out beautifully, and he captured the energy and mood of the event perfectly. A super strong photographer in his craft.

After the wedding, we received our edits after 3 months. It did feel like a long time, but there were a ton of selects and Daniel kept us informed the entire time we were waiting.

I'd recommend The Spragues to anyone looking for a photographer who will get you out of our shell on your big day, and ensure you're smiling the whole way through.

Amazing photos and super cool people!

My husband and I are beyond happy with the photos and service we got from the Spragues. Daniel felt more like a bud who happened to be snapping some pictures of us, rather than a stuffy wedding photographer - he helped put us at ease in front of the camera, while remaining really professional the whole time too. He has an awesome eye for interesting shots; we could practically see the gears turning in his head as we walked around Navy Pier and he scoped out such unique and totally creative ideas for photos. During the reception, Daniel was a fun and chill addition to the party, while still managing to capture every moment we wanted him to and more. The final photos were so beautifully and thoughtfully curated, you can tell they put care into each and every one. Thank you Daniel and Katherine!!!

Beautiful photos

My husband and I had a great experience with Daniel - I was choosing from SO many different photographers and I just loved that their photos weren't so "cookie cutter" and could tell he really had a great eye. Our photos didn't disappoint! I only wish we had more time to shoot and get even more. The site for downloading photos that he uses is very user friendly as well, both for sharing and downloading. I also choose him as I knew my husband would feel more comfortable with him, as a fellow Star Wars and beer loving guy, rather than some of the more "romantic/mushy/bohemian" photographers I had spoken to. Thanks for the gorgeous pictures and for making us both feel so comfortable on our big day!

The Spragues are amazing!

Daniel and Katherine are the best of the best. They were so friendly and professional from our first meeting to post-wedding. On the wedding day, they were a ton of fun to be around while also somehow always being in the background. Many guests told me they never even saw our photographers. They have an incredible ability to capture every special moment, and there were so many moments that I would have never been able to see if it weren't for them. Their work is beautiful and brought us to tears when we saw the final product. If you want gorgeous, high-quality, photo-journalistic images, you will NOT be disappointed. You will want to frame all of them. I can't thank them enough, they were the best decision we made for our special day!

I gave Dan a huge challenge... photograph 60 people who did not want to be photographed, do it at 8 different locations, in Washington, and we have two days to do it. Dude delivered! We could not have produced our new website without the help of Dan. His photographs of our companies employees and the work they do came out amazing. Sure Dan's a kick ass wedding photographer, but I would recommend his work for business profiles too.

I can't recommend Kate and Dan enough. Our wedding pictures turned out incredible! I found them on Instagram because I was looking for a wedding photographer that wasn't just a generic smile and shoot type. They are incredibly talented - they take their work seriously, as an art form. My friends all follow them on Instagram now because of how impressive their photography is and because they are simply lovely humans! On our wedding day, they fit right in, as if they were just wedding guests there to celebrate. They grooved with our style of not wanting a million posed shots and left us well enough alone to enjoy the day but also popped in at opportune moments. They will totally take all the portraits you want with family and friends but they also bring to the table an unexpected eye for detail and an ability to capture emotion in a way that traditional wedding photographers do not. They drove from NH to Cape Cod, MA for me and I would fly them across the country if needed in the future. Seriously, do yourself the favor and book this amazing duo!

Daniel and Kate Sprague are photography geniuses…and the best people on earth. Booking with Dan and Kate was the best decision we made for our wedding. We had our engagement shoot with them in Boston at sunrise, a year before our wedding. It was the first time we met them in person and, to no surprise, instantly became best friends. More than that, they made us feel so comfortable and natural while shooting us. It was 5:00 a.m. and we had never met – but we instantly felt like we were at home with them. When we got our photos back, very soon after, we were in LOVE! They made us look like models…all while just acting our normal selves. Leading up to our wedding – we had a lot of questions about timing on our wedding day, and shots that we were hoping to definitely get. Dan and Kate always responded right away – and always made everything so easy. I never felt anxious or stressed about photography – because they constantly made us feel like everything was handled…and it was. The day of our wedding was perfect. Kate and Dan showed up while we were getting ready. They both took photos of me and my girl crew, and my husband and his crew, while getting ready and heading to the ceremony. Kate never left my side and it was amazing. I’m not sure how she managed taking photos of us while helping me with my dress/hair/etc….but she did it!! What’s more…they were so much fun to hang out with! Throughout the day, and into the party, Dan and Kate honestly felt like they were two of our wedding guests. They danced with us, partied with us, had fun with us…but also took photos all night long. They were even still there and around at our after party before heading home. The photos from our wedding day are my most favorite photos I’ve ever seen…and I only wish I had enough wall space to hang every one around our home. Our wedding photos will be photos we cherish for always. We recommend The Spragues to anyone searching…just do it! Book them now!!

If The Spragues' sample photos and galleries on their website seem like your style, I would hands down recommend them to shoot your wedding. Different couples are understandably looking for different vibes and my hubs and I have definitely seen friends' wedding photos that weren't quite up our alley. We were pretty picky trying to work through the endless lists of vendors and also a little nervous with such a big investment on such a big day, but The Spragues did not disappoint! The photos are amaaaaazing.

Besides incredible photos to remember our special day, pre- and post-wedding day interactions/responses were timely, comfortable, and showed their flexibility. SO MANY of our guests commented on how great they were and even thought they were just our friends at the celebration. They fit right in with our families and didn't stand out awkwardly when shooting. After seeing photos, a family member said, "Duuude that photographer is a magical wizard of idealized images. The man shoots straight fire. I would like [to have a copy of] basically any photo that he took of me." Book this pair while you can...

We can not say enough good things about The Spragues. I mean that as photographers, as people, as possibly our new best friends, and most importantly- as artists.

I'm an actor and writer in Los Angeles, and the most important thing for me on my wedding was having a photographer I could trust. Someone that I could share emails and drinks about my vision and what I loved about their vision and end up with incredible art, not just wedding photos. That's exactly what I received with The Spragues.

What started as an email about our favorite songs, turned into lunch and drinks where we talked about our style and things I loved about their photography (and about life in general, I mean... they rule as people), and culminated in photos that will probably bankrupt me because my wife is planning on printing like all of the thousands they took. We are NOT "stand there and smile" people, but we were able to get those for the family quickly, and move on to the things that excited us.

The Spragues took chances, they were everywhere we needed them to be, they were mixed into the dance floor- something I didn't realize was as important as it was. Rather than a fly on the wall, they really were a fly in the middle of the party. I had friends asking if I had grown up with Daniel, I had family that assumed he and I went to college together, and most importantly we have incredible photos that will last a lifetime.

I seriously can't recommend a photographer - or two people - more than The Spragues.

DAN AND KATE ARE AMAZING! I initially contacted the Spragues after loving the artistic look of the wedding photos they featured online. I also read the bio, and loved that Dan and Kate were a loving family photo team. My husband and I wanted to meet the Spragues in person to see more photos and to get to know them a little before hiring them. They suggested meeting for dinner and drinks. We had a blast! We talked business first, and then spent the next hour and a half just getting to know each other, carrying on like we were already old friends.
They offer a free engagement session for all couples who book with them. Neither Colin nor I particularly enjoy being photographed, but they were so lighthearted, easy going and fun that we forgot about the scariness of it and had a wicked good time! We ended our shoot with Dan convincing me, and then me convincing Colin to jump into the lake. The shots were unreal.
Our wedding was even more amazing. Dan went disc golfing with the groomsmen to get some pre-wedding shots, while Kate stayed and took shots of the girls getting ready. Kate was also extremely helpful in telling other people where to be (or not to be), which took a lot of stress off of me. The Spragues are professional and extremely talented. Before the wedding we went over the list of family and friend shots we wanted to take, and then on the day of they were able to organize everyone quickly and efficiently so we would have plenty of time for all the shots we wanted to get. The entire experience was relaxing and fun. We have not seen all of the shots yet (because the wedding was only three days ago), but we cannot WAIT! My great grandmother was not able to travel to be at the wedding, so Dan and Kate quickly put together about ten photos the day after the wedding so I could send the pictures to her before we left on our honeymoon. Again, they are AMAZING. If you like fun, I could not recommend a better team to capture your day.

Dan and Kate can take all the traditional pictures, if you want them to. But better than that is all the pictures they take that you couldn't possibly know beforehand to ask for. Dan and Kate shot our wedding this past October and are honestly some of the most easy going and down to earth people I have ever met. Nothing about our work with them was stressful or frustrating, from the contract to the timeline. Their style is artistic, subtle and creative which resulted in us having some truly beautiful and unique wedding photos in addition to portraits and the standard.

From the moment we met the Spragues they felt more like friends than hired professionals which was really important to us. When you are nervous or anxious in front of the camera like I am it helped to have that added level of comfort, especially for such an intimate life moment. Dan kept us having fun and smiling, from different experimental shots he wanted to try to personal stories and anecdotes. There are photos from our wedding that we did not realize we being taken which truly shows their level of skill. Both Dan and Kate took turns spending time with each of us separately and throughout the evening,. We did not realize until after the fact how lovely it was to have two skilled photographers to capture our day.

The Sprauges come highly recommended and we would instantly hire them again for any events or special life moments we would want captured.

These two photographers were the perfect photographers for our wedding: they are super personable, they jump right into the work, and they made things easy! They were also willing to work with us on our budget and made us feel like we were their number one priority (when obvi, they have a million other couples who feel the same!). Daniel and Kate are fabulous! From our first Skype chat to final photo delivery I couldn't be happier with my choice of wedding photographer. They are down to earth, friendly, funny, outgoing characters that are amazingly talented artists. Daniel and Kate were so amazing to work with and were by far our favorite part of the whole process. They made sure they knew exactly what we wanted and delivered far beyond our wildest dreams. Every shot we asked for we got- plus more. Our photos are everything! You can tell they are true professionals. Dan has this amazing ability to be incredibly creative and artistic in his photos but also taking the "normal" shot. His artistic flare is what brought our photos from wedding pictures to works of art in their own right. They both helped me stay calm and really sort of controlled a lot of the day when I was too stressed to handle certain things. Like raining 10 minutes before we were supposed to go outside for our ceremony. They made sure the inside area was set up perfectly for the right shots. These are things you don't even think of but when you're in the midst of it all you are sooo happy to have such amazing, quick thinking and professional photographers to take care of you! We honestly can't say enough about these two. Hire them. You are doing yourselves a huge service if you do!!!

We are SO happy with the pictures from The Spragues, they captured our day perfectly. I fell in love with their photography on their website and knew I had to go with them. When we saw our engagement pictures, we were so excited to see what they could do for our wedding. They were so friendly, relaxed, and accommodating for our every request leading up to the wedding day. They were incredibly patient with all of my family portrait requests and improvised when our original portrait location rained out. During the reception, they added to the life of the party and made sure to get a great variety of pictures of people all night. I would recommend the Spragues to everyone who is looking for an artistic take on their special day.

Dan & Kate are the ONLY choice for your wedding photographers. Seriously. Look no further. From my first inquiry to receiving the final wedding photographs, Dan & Kate were responsive, timely, professional and incredibly awesome to work with. (And to hang out with. We met them at a restaurant in Dover for the “will you please be my photographer?” meetup and had a lovely time.)

They handled me being late and my ridiculously long shot list like champs. Dan was totally open to a couple of specific perspectives I wanted in a few shots and the numerous locations I had in mind for the engagement shoot. And of course, he and Kate have even better ideas to incorporate.

The photos turned out beautifully. I love his sense of scale and framing. The technical skill involved in differentiating the white of my (practically albino!) skin, the dress and the (purposefully) overblown white background is nothing short of miraculous[https://www.flickr.com/photos/jcardinal18/17694207955/].

I want to give a special shout out to Kate for being on point when it came to making sure my hair and dress were in place and for lugging our stuff around on the engagement shoot.

I couldn't have been more happy with our wedding photos by Daniel Aaron Sprague. He captured all of the most special moments of the day in the most magical ways. I wanted non traditional shots that captured the vibe of our small laid back affair, and he more than nailed it. I couldn't imagine anyone else being the one photographing our day. The only thing I'm disappointed with is not having more events for him and his awesome wife to photograph.

Dan offered a holiday special of taking a free family portrait for Christmas this year as a thank you to the community. I immediately wanted to jump on this opportunity because I've always loved his work but for one reason or another I haven't had the time (and I've been pregnant for almost 3 years straight) to get our family portraits taken. Our time at Wagon Hill Farm with Dan and Kate was awesome! Being around Dan is comfortable - he doesn't make you feel like you're posing or awkward, and it is always so fun to look at the moments he captured that you didn't even realize had happened! Daniel set up an event for FREE family holiday photos and I attended with my one year old. At first, when we were searching for a wedding photographer, we just wanted something that was "not terrible." We looked at a number of photographers' photos and thought, "well, this is a fine photo, if I was the person in the photo." Then we saw some of Daniel's photos from past weddings and engagement shoots, and we thought some of them were so beautiful and artistic that we wanted to blow them up and hang them on our wall, even though we didn't know the people in the photo at all. We were sold.

Daniel's photographs are truly beautiful - unique and artistic, and they capture the moments in a way that most traditional wedding photos do not.

Plus, he and Kate are fun to have around the wedding. And he's got an awesome portfolio of facial hair options.

Danny has an uncanny ability to capture a moment in time and make the memories more beautiful every time the images are revisited. From our Brooklyn engagement photos to our farmland wedding, Danny and his wife, Kate, made my wife and I feel like we were supermodels. Daniel was amazing! His photos were just what we were looking for - beautiful candids, gorgeous portraits - images that captured the spirit/the feeling of the day. In addition to doing all of that, he also managed to capture all the small details of the wedding, the little projects that we spent months working on that set the stage. Two years later, I still love looking through our photos.

Working with him was really fun. He was very accommodating considering we were planning a NH wedding from NYC, and we had lots of conversations over Skype. Also on the day he fit seamlessly into our wedding and with our guests.

P.S. He offers a photobooth component. Do it. Seriously. They are some of the funniest pictures from the entire night.

I can't even express how awesome Dan is - not only was he calm, funny, and professional on our wedding day, but he missed the birth of his child on the day of our wedding and didn't even tell me until 9:30pm when he just had 1 hour left!!! Clearly, Dan will never abandon you. He was so sweet and we are in love with our pictures. They are very natural and captured really amazing moments from the night. Despite him having a newborn, we got all our photos about 5 weeks later. We are so thankful to have had Dan shoot our wedding.

Daniel was absolutely amazing to work with! My wife has been uncomfortable being the subject of photographs, but Daniel immediately put both of us at ease months before our wedding with a session of engagement shots. We were so impressed with his ability to set (or simply find) a scene that we knew we'd have nothing to worry about on our wedding day, and we were right. Not only was he prompt on the two days we worked with him, but every email in between and afterwards has been quickly responded to. Somehow, he was able take photos of every aspect of our wedding: prep, seating, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and candid photo-booth; and yet he was never once "in the way." Furthermore, every single photo he sent us was either beautiful, hilarious, or touching, and some were all three. I simply cannot recommend Daniel enough.

Daniel made us comfortable and made the hour of photos fun. We were nervous but after our engagement shoot with Daniel all of those nerves went away. His work is to die for, our photos are absolutely perfect. He pays a great amount of attention to detail at the wedding itself and really captures the emotions of you and your guests! Daniel shot our wedding at a camp in NH on 6/18/11 and he was a gem. He and Kate seemed more like our friends than our photogs and the pictures he took captured our wedding to perfection. We've had SO many comments from family and friends about how incredible our wedding photos are. My husband and I are not into staged/cheesy wedding pictures or anything too formal and Daniel suited us perfectly. I think personality is just as important as photography skills and Daniel/Kate rocked. Afterwards, we said we wish they could've come to after-party to just hang out (and snap a few pictures of flip cup) :) I highly recommend Daniel!

Where to begin… If I could give Daniel 10 stars I would! We did both an engagement session and our wedding pictures with Daniel and we fell in love with his work instantly. Daniel and Katie are both amazing people and we loved working with them. We couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. Daniel is so low key, he has an amazing eye and he knew exactly what we wanted! I am not your typical bride; I do NOT like your traditional wedding photos (which he can do if you want). I like something that looks like art, something that catches your eye, and that’s what we got. We have received nothing but AMAZING comments from ALL of our family/friends/coworkers about our pictures. Daniel took BEAUTIFUL photos of our wedding in Maine. He worked with us to set up details in advance from afar (we live in Oregon). He was upfront and clear about his services. He did a good job of listening us, and capturing some really precious moments. Super nice, funny, and easy to work with. Would definitely recommend him.
