We are SO fortunate to have had The Mixing Bowl team as part of our wedding on 10/30/2021– I truly cannot recommend them enough! I initially reached out to Phyllis, TMB wedding coordinator, in a totally frenzied state: my previous vendor had dropped the ball on me with less than 6 months until the big day. As an out-of-state, pandemic bride, I was ready to accept a Betty Crocker cake at this point, but Phyllis assured me TMB could still accommodate *whatever* it was I envisioned. All of our email exchanges were upbeat and promptly responded to.
When life forced me to make a last minute trip through VA, I called TMB on a whim to see if I could grab a cake sample on my way through town. I was definitely expecting a "no, we're so sorry, we can't swing that," and would have been fine with that response. However, they made it happen with hardly any notice, and the sample was free!
As if all that weren't enough, my mom was in charge of the dessert for the rehearsal dinner, but after a bunch of mishaps, I sent a bridesmaid's husband into the wilderness and told him to handle it with 0 instruction. TMB hooked him up beautifully!
Needless to say, the cake was as delicious as it is beautiful. Thank you, TMB team and Phyllis! Engaged people: BOOK HERE!

My fiance and I both believe that a beautiful cake is pointless if it doesn't taste good as well. Fortunately, at the mixing bowl you don't have to worry because their cake flavors are all absolutely amazing and the process is so stress free. Our biggest issue was trying to decide which flavors because we loved all the options and combinations so much. Our semi-naked cutting cake was beautiful and exactly what we wanted and the cupcakes allowed for a variety of flavors. We have returned to The Mixing Bowl for other treats since then and will continue to order from them in the future. -

I cannot say enough good things about The Mixing Bowl Bakery. Our wedding went from a guest list of 140 to 8 because of COVID-19. Phyllis and the rest of the staff at The Mixing Bowl were more than understanding when we had to completely change our order just a couple months out from the wedding. They made the MOST DELICIOUS wedding cake, and completely understood my vision. We were planning the wedding from Tennessee, and Phyllis was always timely and responsive with emails and phone calls. The cake tasting was definitely the best part of wedding planning! If you're getting married in Richmond, The Mixing Bowl Bakery is a must! -

Our wedding cake was beautiful and delicious! Phyllis was super easy to work with and helped us create a cake that met both of our needs. Everyone loved the different flavors. The Mixing Bowl is affordable and offers so many choices for any special occasion. -

Allyson Sent on 10/08/2018We ordered various flavors of pie for our rehearsal dinner - we wanted to go with a different dessert rather than a groom's cake and this was the right choice! We were happy to get a local bakery to make our desserts and The Mixing Bowl made it SO EASY. We went by one afternoon and simply inquired about the cost and available flavors--we did not anticipate there being SO MANY available flavors for our event and the price was very reasonable for the amount of pie we needed. We were able to make arrangements to pick up our pies the day of our rehearsal dinner & pay for them that day. We received multiple compliments from our family and bridal party during our rehearsal dinner and they were elated to have a different option than the traditional cake. Very yummy! You won't be disappointed. -

Delicious cake!
The Mixing Bowl Bakery did a wonderful job baking the cake for our wedding! They by far had the best tasting experience and most options - a take home box of so many different flavors of cakes, fillings, and frostings, it made for a really fun date night and allowed us to try different things and pick our favorites! I wanted a really plain lined design 4-tiered round cake with florals added by my florist and they did a wonderful job! I had them deliver an hour away from the bakery in Williamsburg, VA and everything went seamlessly. The cake was equally delicious and gorgeous, and the most affordable option I could find! I would definitely recommend using Mixing Bowl Bakery! -

Jaclyn Sent on 05/30/2011We working with Ann at the Mixing Bowl for our wedding cake. The tasting was a blast. Who doesn't like to taste wedding cake? My husband and I had so much fun with Ann. She had all of the batter flavors, filling flavors and icing flavors ready for us. It was delicious.
We decided on two different kinds, one with lemon cake and lemon curd filling, one with almond cake and raspberry filling, everything covered in a buttercream icing. We started out with a particular design that unfortunately didn't work out. We changed designs and I took color swatches to Ann to show her what color we wanted for the cake and we had a white ribbon around it. The design looked just like the one we loved, better actually. The color was perfect, but most importantly it tasted amazing! The lemon with lemon curd, I'm telling you, the best I've ever tasted. Wedding cake usually isn't that good. But our guests loved it and so did I. The only complaint I had was that our caterer was nice enough to pick up the cake and the Mixing Bowl didn't provide him with a box for our top tier so the caterer had to come up with a make shift box during the middle of the wedding. Other than that we had a wonderful experience. -

Edquina Sent on 05/07/2015Cute little bakery, great tasting cakes, very reasonable pricing. Lots of cake options. We had a 3-tier white butter-cream cake with one layer yellow with fudge icing, one red velvet with cream cheese and the top was a combo or half and half (this was their suggestion because we couldn't decided). Middle tier was metallic shimmery gold. Black satin trim on each layer with silver bling embellishments. I love the fact that on your anniversary, you will have a fresh top tier to enjoy. Not everyone wants to eat freezer burned cake :)
Came back from our honeymoon and the cake still tasted great!
Only complaint was the color of one tier was supposed to be shimmery metallic gold in which looked more of a yellow tone and not metallic. But then again everyone wants their wedding day to be perfect and no one even noticed. -

Some was great, some completely off...
We had a medieval themed wedding, and asked for a granite stone looking cake that we could pull a sword (dagger) from and cut the cake with it. Our roses were pink, with coral centers, and I'd asked for vines to be growing up the cake, with small roses on them. This part, they did great at, but the roses were almost a neon orange (one of the few colors I actively dislike). They Did have 'moss' (green cookie crumbs) along the base as id asked, so that was great, too. The lemon cake with lemon filling was wonderful! The chocolate cake was rather dry, but the raspberry filling helped. Frosting tasted great.
We had also ordered mini pies: blueberry, chocolate silk with whipped cream for on top, and lemon chess. The lemon and blueberry were fine, but the chocolate was definitely Not chocolate silk (basically a pudding consistency), more like a gooey brownie in a pie crust, and there was no whipped cream anywhere. Having said that, I'd still recommend them for the lemon cake and fruit pies. Those were great. -

Meghan Sent on 04/26/2018My husband and I used The Mixing Bowl Bakery for our wedding cake. It was DELICIOUS! We chose a lemon cake with a lemon custard filling. It was so moist and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Also, this place was incredibly affordable!
Our only hiccup is that we wanted a pink to white ombre look for the cake and instead the pink was only concentrated in the middle of the cake and just had brush strokes outwards. -
