Amazing Venue!
The James Ward Mansion is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. We were taken aback by its beauty and sophistication as soon as we walked in. I feel so lucky to have been able to get married here! The entire space is gorgeous, but the bridal suite is the perfect place to spend your morning getting ready. The staff (especially Julie and Tom of T&L Catering) were wonderful and easy to work with. They went above and beyond my expectations for our special day. -

Vikas's 50th birthday celebration
This James Ward Mansion is a fantastic venue to host an event. We celebrated my husband's 50th birthday party there and it was absolutely spectacular. From the beautiful interior to the staffs ability to create a Gentleman's Tequila Lounge to a beautiful Ladies Champagne Room? Everything was taken care of leaving our family and our guests to truly enjoy the night.
There is nothing more we could ask for. JULIE is amazing to work with and I highly recommend this venue and their exquisite staff.

1000/10 Recommend for Any Event!
The James Ward Mansion was unbelievably perfect for my 30th birthday and I could not recommend them enough. The venue is super spacious and held my group of 60 guests with ease. Theres a few rooms that the guests can move between and all of them are drop dead gorgeous and set up for guests to move comfortably. They've got multiple bathrooms, a FULL kitchen for the catering staff, a lounge, a cocktail room with a huge white fountain in it, an upstairs with a HUGE bathroom/powder room to get ready in and a gorgeous master bedroom styled the same mansion-esque way as everything else here. I worked with Julie and Anna and they were so sweet, responsive, flexible to my needs and felt more like family by the end of my event. We worked with T&L Caterting and they just helped make the event ten times better. There legitimately is not one thing that could have gone better (and I'm a picky type-A person!) and I can't wait to use them for my next event. -

Highly Recommend
James Ward Mansion was the perfect intimate venue for my wedding of ~50 guests. Everyone loved the cozy vibes and all of the different elegant rooms for pictures and exploring. Julie was a pleasure to work with every step of the way. We also went with their preferred caterer and DJ (T&L Catering and All Star Entertainment) which was a great choice. Everyone worked well together and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. -

Omayra & Jose’s Wedding
We could not asked for a more magical venue to celebrate our wedding day. The Mansion is breathtaking with its wonderful southern charm. The amazing staff are always ready to help with anything we needed. It really felt like they were family. They knew the best places to take photos and make the most of our special day. We had our wedding on a Sunday so parking was free in the lot around the corner. The most important day, deserves the most amazing venue to hold it.-

Thank You JW Mansion - AAA+ Service
We recently had an event at the JW Mansion. The venue is beautiful, rooms are bright, so our photographer was able to easily capture some beautiful pictures, food was absolutely phenomenal, and the level of service we received from the staff was absolutely impressive. Staff are very friendly, kind and went above and beyond to ensure that the event was a success. As you know there is a lot of stress and pressure when hosting events, staff reassured us not to worry or stress. We would like to thank Anna, Leo, Jackie, Julie, and the entire staff for making the event even more special. We really appreciate your hard work, kindness and can-do attitude. We are extremely grateful to you all for making a life-time memory more special. Appreciate you all!!!The James Ward Mansion's reply:
Thank you so much June, it was an absolute pleasure to work with you. We are so thrilled you had a great experience and we hope we'll have the opportunity to work with you again in the future. Julie -

The wedding of my dreams came true
My now husband found this place with a simple google search. After looking at photos I knew if we toured the venue this is where we would get married. I was right. We just got married 6.2.24 an our experience was spectacular.
The staff: Julie was great to work with when it came to booking, visits and scheduling my rehearsal. She was kind and knowledgeable when it came to answering my many questions, and she always did so in a timely fashion. On the day of Anna was on site to make sure everything ran smoothly and it did. I could not be more thankful for her!
The Venue: It was love at first sight. After booking Julie let us know the mansion would be undergoing some updates/changes from when I first toured and they came out amazing. The whole place is very bright and airy. I chose to have a day time wedding and the skylight in the cocktail room provided so much natural light for the best photos. Along with the large windows in the main space.
The bridal suite can easily accommodate a large bridal party. I had a very small one and it was the perfect spot for getting ready and the photos that come along with it. The groomsmen suit received an update and it is the PERFECT spot for the boys to lounge and get ready in. It feels very much like an upscale whisky/cigar lounge (according to my husband and his friends).
The venue is extremely budget friendly and honestly speaks for itself. This is perfect if you are looking to provide minimal décor. There is not a set caterer on staff but the venue does work closely with two (2) specific ones who were a pleasure to speak with while choosing the best option for us.
There are three (3) styles of events and due to our small guest count we were able to have a dance floor. I do recommend if you have 7-8 tables to request they remove one after dinner to create a larger floor.
All in all I had the wedding of my dreams here, it was everything I wanted and more. I will always recommend this Venue for Weddings, and other major celebrations.

Thank you so much for writing such a wonderful review. It means the world to us. We loved working with you and your entire wedding party and we are delighted you had a day to remember. We wish you much love and hope you'll be back at the mansion again. -

Lance’s Retirement Party
The James Ward Mansion was my first and last choice when planning my husband’s retirement party. Julie of TJWM is simply amazing to work with and T&L Catering went over and beyond with both food and service. My guests were well pleased the beautiful esthetics of the mansion and delicious food!
My husband ended his night on cloud nine as we danced the night away in celebration of his 30 years of service from EOFD.

The James Ward Mansion/ Bridgerton
If you are looking to have a micro wedding or smaller size wedding this is your place! My now husband and I always wanted a smaller wedding. We had a final guest count of 60 people, and this was the perfect venue of our dreams. Not to mention in our budget! It has that old vintage French/ Bridgerton vibe mixed with the atrium area out of a storybook. This venue is very responsive and will work with you. Also, the mansion staff for the wedding night were also amazing and incredibly helpful. The mansion has a few food vendors that you have to choose from which made it extremely easy for me being a first time planning a wedding. Also, they provide you a list of vendors that they have worked with and love. Everything was amazing and our wedding was magical!-

The perfect venue for an intimate wedidng.
The James Ward Mansion is an absolutely perfect venue for an intimate wedding. We had our wedding there this past weekend and it was absolutely wonderful. Anna (our day of facilitator) helped us with everything we could have possibly needed and treated us like family on the day of. She made sure everything went smoothly and that we were never stressed throughout the day.
The venue is gorgeous and was the perfect size for our 50 person wedding. After rescheduling our wedding multiple times due to covid at other venues, the James Ward Mansion made the whole process easy. We loved their Silver Platter Catering partner as well and would recommend them as a GREAT value. Our pictures are so pretty because of the beautiful space and they met all of our expectations. They were also very flexible and communicative throughout the whole process! -

Let Me Tell You About The Mesmerizing Mansion of Westfield
To say that our experience with The James Ward Mansion was excellent is an understatement. If you are looking for a venue that has an upscale feel with a romantic intimate touch this is the place for you. Not only is the mansion breath-taking, the people behind the business are even more wonderful. When my wedding got cancelled 22 days before the date due to corona virus protocols, The owners of the James Ward Mansion were the first to reach out and offer their assistance. Not only did they offer their venue, they assured us that they would help plan an entire wedding with us. They worked tirelessly with to recreate a whole new wedding with a new budget and because of their help our wedding was even better than the one we had originally planned. I can not speak their praise enough! Planning a wedding is extremely stressful to begin with, let alone having a massive wrench thrown into your plans. I have never felt more like family with their support and dedication to making sure our wedding was just as magical as we had been dreaming. The James Ward Mansion's reply:
Thank you so much. It was an absolute pleasure to work with you both. We are glad we were able to help you out. We can't wait to see you all again soon. Stay safe

Stunning location!
The James Ward Mansion is a vision.
I cannot thank the Mansion's team enough for making our wedding reception memorable and simply gorgeous. The venue had our guests exploring and taking photos of every inch of the property. And if you plan on having young children attend your event, the upstairs rooms provided an excellent place for them to lay down and/or take a break from the event's festivities.
In addition to the glamorous interior of the Mansion, downtown Westfield, NJ provided an excellent backdrop for more photography locations.
I highly recommend the James Ward Mansion!-

Perfection!
We had our wedding here last month! It is truly an incredibly beautiful and unique space! We had the most perfect day. Julie was always quick to accommodate and answer any of my questions throughout the planning process, and Susie oversaw my wedding day from start to finish! She refreshed our rooms and kept the event space spotless. She even came in the following day (a Sunday) to help us retrieve some of our items from the reception! The James Ward made our wedding unforgettable. It was perfect. There is no other venue like it!The James Ward Mansion's reply:

We LOVED the James Ward Mansion
The minute we first stepped into the main room of the James Ward Mansion, we knew that the beautiful, intimate space was where we wanted to get married. Our hunch was confirmed by the interactions we had with the staff, Julie and Anna, who were extremely accommodating and knowledgeable about the particulars of the venue. On our wedding day, we enjoyed getting dressed in the cozy bedrooms upstairs, and our guests continually remarked about the fascinating space that includes a dining room table seating 22, an open kitchen where you can watch the culinary magic happen, and the one-of-a-kind reception area with spiral staircases, fireplaces, and views of lovely Westfield (our hometown). In much the same way that New York City is a character on the show Sex and the City, the James Ward Mansion was very much a character in our wedding. -

Exceptional
Our family and friends can’t stop talking about how amazing and unique the James Ward Mansion is. Our wedding is described as the wedding of the year and one of the best experiences to be had. The personalized service and the intimacy of the venue is indescribable. Everything surpassed our expectation, from the mansion, to our caterer, the Ultimate Caterer and of course the Beauty Artist Group, who did my hair and makeup. I knew from the moment I saw the mansion online to visiting in person, we could not have made a better choice. If you want a beautiful, unique and an intimate setting that we leave your guest talking, the James Ward Mansion is your place. -

A beautiful and unique space!
We chose James Ward Mansion for our wedding because we wanted a non-traditional space (something different than a catering hall) that would keep our guests entertained the whole night and the mansion sure delivered! The venue is gorgeous in person and photographs really well. Plus our guests had fun exploring all the rooms throughout the night.
We didn't work directly with the mansion that much but we appreciated they went along with some of our different ideas, such as placing our photo booth in the blue bedroom and allowing a handful of our guests to stand on the balcony overlooking the main room during the ceremony.
Outside the mansion is a lovely downtown area which we fell in love with as well. We would definitely recommend having your next event at the stunning James Ward Mansion! -

Beautiful place
We loved this place! It’s a gorgeous backdrop for a wedding, and there are so many places to take pictures. Ceremony in the Ball Room, cocktail hour in the Atrium, upstairs for more photos, and reception back in the Ball Room. We had a smaller wedding (about 50), and there was plenty of space while not feeling it was empty. Dance floor is a decent size in front of the fireplace. We both got ready upstairs in the bedrooms, and there was plenty of room for everyone I needed there with me. It really sets the tone, and everyone told us how beautiful it was.
You rent the space for your event, and they have 3 caterers they use for events. They have other recommended vendors, but none are required. However, if you use the Beauty Artist Group, you can get in earlier without extra costs (and they were fantastic!) There is an elevator which you can access from the rear of the building, although it does not go to the top floor.
A few details were missed. There is an iPad available connected to their sound system, which we planned to use for part of the wedding. Unfortunately, this did not work the way it was planned, and nobody there was able to assist. Also, the front door was locked before the event. I had guests arrive early, and the door was locked again. Numerous times people were calling me and/or knocking loudly on the front door.
Overall, it’s a fantastic place, and we were thrilled to get married there. We would absolutely recommend it, just make sure to take care of those details that were missed for us.-

Absolutely loved having my sweet 16 here. The place was beautiful and in a great location. The DJ and catering in the lists they provided were so accommodating and lovely. This was perfect for a “small” party (I had about 35). I would recommend this place to anyone! -

Perfect affair to remember….
The James Ward Mansion is truly a gem in the the heart of Westfield . It’s charming elegance and air of sophistication made my daughter’s bridal shower just perfect. Everyone was lovestruck by the architectural detail, spiral staircases, French doors, fireplaces, wall to wall mirrors, royal bedrooms, skylit garden room….it is jaw dropping gorgeous….
Not to mention, Julie and Ana who were very professional and easy to work with , made our event an affair to remember…..The James Ward Mansion's reply:
Thank you so much for the lovely review, Cecilia. It was an absolute pleasure for all of our team to work with you. -

Beautiful Venue for Smaller Parties Looking for a Relaxed Atmosphere!
The James Ward Mansion was a hit with our guests! It's great for smaller parties, and it's clean, classy, and one-of-a-kind in terms of ambiance. My family and I were especially impressed by the ballroom/dining area and the beautiful rooms upstairs where you could get ready for the party. We also liked that we had the whole venue to ourselves and that guests were free to move from room to room when they pleased. Julie was also amazing to work with and was very attentive to our needs and feedback.
Just a few things to be mindful of... this is not the most disability-friendly venue. There are quite a lot of stairs, and the service elevator in the back of building js older and can be difficult to find. If you have guests that need assistance going up and down stairs, it's best to keep tabs on when they will arrive, so you can tell them about the elevator and alert the mansion representative to work the elevator for them. Also, if you are bringing in food, party favors/decor, or any heavy equipment, you can't use the elevator to transport them, you have to use the stairs.
Moreover, since the venue is on a main street in a downtown area, its main entrance is accessible to whoever wants to enter from the street. Because the venue does not offer security for adult parties, it's easy for people to come in and crash the party if the door is not locked.
And although kids are welcome at the venue, it's not the most kid-friendly place. There are again lots of stairs and antique furnishings, so if you are having kids at your reception, make sure they are well-supervised and have things to do to keep them occupied. I think it's also important to mention that since the mansion is a historic building, the staff is very mindful of keeping the property well-maintained. Unfortunately, the mansion attendant at our party was hyper-vigilant in terms of keeping eyes on us and our children in order to make sure we weren't "damaging the property", so check in with Julie to see which attendant would work best for your guests/event and also confirm ahead of time which specific spaces are off-limits for you and your guests.
With all those things in mind, we would definitely consider having another event at the James Ward Mansion. It really is a hidden gem in New Jersey, and it photographs so well! If you want something that is different from the usual banquet hall, the mansion leaves a great impression and can give you a more tailored, relaxed, and intimate experience with your loved ones. The James Ward Mansion's reply:
Thank you for your review and feedback Jackie. We take all feedback on board and will always endeavour to improve. We hope you'll come back to the mansion again. It was a pleasure to work with you.

Beautiful venue but....
I recently had my wedding at the mansion. And most of my communication up until that point was good. No issues, all of my questions and concerns was answered.
Now as we fast forward from two days before my wedding and the day off, I have gotten nothing but negative feedback from my vendors regarding the manager. Although I didn't experience this my vendors did. The manager was extremely rude to them... and although it was handled professionally it still left a bad taste In my mouth... I would be very reluctant to refer people to this venue if the persons working hands on needs a lesson in communication.

Beautiful venue, great caterers, bad management
I had my wedding at James Ward in June 2024. Long story short, I can't recommend this venue due to several egregious errors and miscommunications by their main point of contact, Julie Ibrahim.
We booked and paid in full for the venue in January 2024, planning to be married in May, which was already a very short planning timeline. Two weeks later, I received a call saying that due to a calendaring error, my booked date wasn't actually available and another couple had already booked and paid months prior. Although we scrambled to find another venue to keep our date, after learning most of our vendors were still available in June, we ultimately decided to remain with James Ward.
To compensate, their staff -- and even the caterer, who hadn't made a mistake -- offered a discount and added extra hours to our event without charge. However, it took multiple months and emails back and forth with Julie to get that refund, though that was attributed to their accounting system.
The worst issues occurred the week and day of the wedding. I emailed Julie a few days before the wedding to finalize a time for the alcohol distributor to drop off our order, and only then did I learn she was out of the country and another person would handle our event. This person, Anna, was late to the appointment with the alcohol distributor, blaming me for giving her an incorrect time even though both myself and the distributor had the same time that she provided us. She was terse and rude to our day-of coordinator on the day of our wedding. The kicker was that although Julie had told us she extended our hours until 11 pm, around 10 pm, Anna abruptly signaled to our DJ that the event was over, and spent the next half hour rushing us and our guests out.
Our selected caterer, T&L, and their staff were really a godsend that day. Perhaps James Ward might work for less hectic or shorter events. But even for non-wedding events, our main gripes were with the communication and professionalism of their staff.

So regal !
What can I say, the venue is gorgeous! Anna and Julie were the BEST to work with. I love them so much. There were just a few slight issues the day of that my husband was put off a bit; he brought an equipment ( last minute decision as he is a photographer and had it already) that was not allowed to be used, which we understood and assured them we would not use it after learning this however, a staff requested it off the premise completely requesting my husband the morning of the wedding to leave the venue with it; he had explained that the limo just dropped him off and had no means to go back to the hotel to remove it and was ok with them putting it in a locked closet or anything else they needed to do, they did allow him to put it in the outside stairwell at the end as a compromise. They did have an event the following day and requested all decorations removed off the property that same night or before 7 am. Luckily my father in law volunteered to wake up at 6 am after the wedding day to pick up the decorations. The other minor issue was that some of the bathroom locks did not lock. Overall, it’s a fabulous venue, so regal and intimate. I would work with Julie and Anna 10000x more they made it perfect coordinating and communicating. -

Make Their Mansion Your Mansion, With Conditions
Walking into the James Ward Mansion for the first time, I saw my entire wedding day unfold. It was a hidden gem, something that no one has ever seen. I was excited and eager to start the planning process, contract was signed and deposit was made. We were quickly met with a list of preferred partners that we were recommended to use. If we desired to bring in any other vendors there were rules or conditions to limit us. And as far as scheduling additional meetings it was never convenient. I was even offered to come for a tour with my coordinator on someone else’s wedding day! Our ceremony rehearsal was scheduled months before our wedding, yet on the night we arrived we were locked out in the rain with our officiant, families, and bridal party. After multiple phone calls, the owner’s fiancé (who was my wedding day hair stylist) came to turn the lights on and unlock the door. A beautiful venue, but there needs to be better coordination on their end and possibly more staff to stay up on their events and appointments. -

Beautiful Venue, Disappointing Experience
While the James Ward Mansion is undeniably a unique and beautiful venue, our overall experience was unfortunately disappointing. Leading up to our wedding, the owners were uncooperative and made the planning process more stressful than it needed to be. Since the venue claims that my concerns are unfounded and an anomaly of their 5-star reviews, here are the specific examples of our less-than-favorable experience:
The week before our wedding, during our pre-event walkthrough, we discovered that the owners had made several cosmetic changes to the venue that were not communicated to us in advance. While we were notified of larger renovation changes, some major cosmetic changes were neglected—such as white-washing the exposed brick in the atrium area. This change, while likely done to expand the appeal of the venue, should have been communicated to a bride ahead of time and not discovered a week before the wedding. This lack of transparency was unsettling and frustrating.
Adding to this frustration, the day before our wedding, the venue allowed us an hour to set up our chuppa for the ceremony. While my husband and his brothers were there, the owners stood with their arms crossed, watching them put together the chuppa, claiming my husband was damaging the floor (which was not true), asking for ID and proof of insurance, and generally exhibiting intimidating tactics. This added unnecessary tension during an already stressful time. The owners admittedly thought my husband was a vendor, but this does NOT justify nor dismiss their behavior and attempts to intimidate him. This behavior was unprofessional and left a negative impression on us and our families.
During setup on the day of our wedding, our florist was placing flowers on the fountain in the atrium. My planner was called by the venue's coordinator and questioned about the flowers. However, at our pre-event walkthrough the week before, the venue had a representative present who knew that we planned to have flowers on the fountain and never mentioned that it wasn't a possibility.
Lastly, the morning of the wedding, I paid extra to arrive early to use the bridal suite to get ready. The owners reside in the building next door and there is a hidden door between the two buildings. This access point leads to a catwalk directly outside the bridal suite. As we arrived and were getting ready with hair, makeup, and dressing, the owner came from his next-door residence right onto that catwalk outside the bridal suite. The owners were well aware that we rented the space that morning and should not have accessed the venue while my bridal party and I were in the bridal suite. After how they treated my husband the day before, it is easy to interpret this surprise visit as more intimidation by the owners.
Most disappointing was the venue's response after the wedding. I asked my planner to arrange a time for me to directly discuss some of these issues. My planner was told that they refuse to address my concerns and feedback, claiming instead that my issues lie at the feet of her, my planner, and our caterer, and that their plethora of 5-star reviews speak for themselves. I, too, reached out directly to discuss these issues with the venue's coordinator and was met with the same resistance; my text message was ignored. This unprofessionalism and disregard for our concerns were extremely disappointing and added to our overall negative experience.
Here is my response to their claims: My specific concerns are with the management of the venue and their treatment of us and our vendors. No venue should rest on their laurels of 5-star reviews and ignore a less-than-favorable experience by a customer.
Despite the venue's charm and aesthetic appeal, these issues overshadowed what should have been a joyful and memorable experience. Based on our experience, I would not recommend the James Ward Mansion. It's important for couples to feel supported and respected by their venue, and unfortunately, that was not our experience here. -
