We absolutely loved our experience!!!! He was humorous and loving! We had to marry quickly because my wife is in the Navy, he happily did our ceremony during his after hours and made it very rememberable and beautiful. When we have our big wedding , definitely considering having him again! He’s awesome !!!!

A great and sweet man! He did an amazing job. Kind, polite, knowledgeable, and wise. We had a beautiful ceremony at his desk :) would recommend to anyone!

Mr. Michael Kuzma is outstanding! In March when my high school sweet heart completed Basic Training for the US Army proposed to me I had to do my research for a good officiant. He was stationed at Fort Eustis, VA for AIT training for 4 months so our plan was to get married the day before he graduated. With him being in the Army you never know what changes you'll have to make. I originally booked a small ceremony with Mr. Kuzma for July 20 at 11am. Months later my fiancee told me that he won't be able to get free time until 3pm is what one of his Sergeants said. So I immediately touched based with Mr. Kuzma to let him know what happened and he was willing to work with me and gave me tips on how to make it go smoothly and quickly since he's been in business for so long and is very familiar with Army time. He was so very kind to push our appointment time to 4pm and was even willing to go on base to marry us if needed. With only a mere couple of days away from getting married and traveling from St. Louis, MO to Newport News, VA I followed all of Mr. Kuzma's steps and it was all very easy. The morning of July 20th I get a call from Bruce saying that he isn't sure what time he will be able to get out so we had a big delimma and I immediately contacted Mr. Kuzma and with him being such an angel he pushed our appointment all the way to 7:30pm that night. Bruce had to report back to base by 8:30pm and Mr. Kuzma assured us that it won't take very long at all. My family, Bruce's family all got there and Mr. Kuzma being there with a smile and open arms I was so relieved. The ceremony was beautiful and he made it so personal and sweet. He gave us tips for a ever lasting marriage as well and I can not thank this sweet man enough. I thank him so much for being so patient and understanding through all of this with us. I honestly recommend you go with to this sweet, funny, patient, kind man for all of your wedding officiant needs. He is such a blessing! Thank you so much Mr. Kuzma!!

Mr. Kuzma was amazing. He was entertaining and really funny. He was very prompt. We went to city hall at 10:30 and got our paperwork in. He was able to fit us in at before 11:30. His speech when he married us was beautiful and he personalized it for us. It would recommend him to officiate any couple.

Michael Kuzma was wonderful. He was able to set aside time last minute on his Sunday to perform our ceremony. Michael walked us through the process, asked us about ourselves and our relationship. He was understanding and very sweet, did not push any particular religion or oppionated views on us, and made sure it was a magical moment. His wording of the ceremony was personalized, we laughed, cried, and smiled. After the ceremony he signed the papers, and his girlfriend took a lot of wonderful pictures for us! Simple, quick, personable on the date we needed. Couldn't have asked for anything better!

Our experience along with the attention to detail, comfort and peace of mind was given us on our most special day by the Honorable Michael Kuzma.

We cannot begin to explain the gratefulness and appreciation towards your calling, but, with knowing without a doubt - the way you were used by the Holy Spirit on that day; to be moved to speak the words given us, YOU were surely moved by God to speak the words of wisdom you spoke and by that we are humbled.

Thank you for your prayers and thank you for your love, patience and for working with us. You took an amazing amount of pressure off of our shoulders and onto your own and we thank God for you. May The Lord ever bless and keep you and your household. Again, we request you give our thanks to your bride of many years for allowing us to take your time away to bless our union. Thank you seems hardly sufficient as a way to express our gratitude for Mr. Kuzma’s service. Mr. Kuzma married us within a week of our request and helped us create the most memorable experience for my wife’s only living grandparent, and to our surprise went out of his way to help us make our wedding happen in less than 4 days and right before a holiday weekend! Mr. Kuzma was wonderful, professional and fun and by virtue of his presence and desire to make a civil ceremony something more than just a recitation of legalese made our special moment even more unforgettable. He is a gem and we would highly recommend his services! Thank you Mr. Kuzma – it was an absolutely perfect moment!

Very professional genuine and kind. A very pleasant experience. Something that means everything for two people and their families was conducted professionally and very intimately. He was kind enough to bless our marriage and accommodate our closness with god. We are very pleased with this experience and would recommend mr kuzma to anyone. As a same-sex, multi-cultural couple, we needed a ceremony that meet our specific desires. Mike was easy, comforting and accommodating. He offer great advice and really became part of our wedding party. Great.

Michael Kuzma was very helpful with guiding us through our ceremony. He answered every call and promptly replied to my e-mails. During our meeting, his experience and suggestions provided much needed relief from the other wedding stressors.
I highly recommend opting for the rehearsal, especially if you have children involved. He knew what needed to be done every step of the way, and was very patient with my more fastidious family members.
Many thanks go out to Michael Kuzma for being considerate of my requests, helping me create the ceremony I'd imagined.

Amanda was in the State of Washington, and did not come in for the consultation, nor did she wish to conference with me while the groom attended to the details.
The Groom was emphatic about changes in the ceremony she wished, and I was happy to accomodate them.
We sign a contract stipulating any changes to the ceremony which is given to them in advance of the meeting, the contract also indicates the time of the wedding for which we allow 30-45 minutes. We request that the ceremony start on time, since there may be subsequent obligations.
As a professional, I call the couple a week to ten days before the ceremony. When after four (4) calls to the groom, I called Event coordinator and left three messages on varying days, none of which were responded too, despite the fact that we are in the same zip code. I called the bride who had the typical pre wedding jitters and worked it out with her.
At the rehearsal which went of nicely, the groom who had forgotten the license, said he would see me prior to the 4 pm ceremony @ 3:45 pm.
I arrived and no one was there. I found the event coordinator and learned that they had changed it to 5:30 pm. I certainly did tell the coordinator that as a professional she had an obligation to respond to my multiple calls.
If my asking her this was rude, what did she think her non response was?
I spent the hour and a half making sure all was right with things, and performed what the bride described as a wonderful ceremony, for which I was generously tipped.

Mr. Kuzma was an amazing officiant... he got together our crazy wedding party on our rehersal night to make sure everything would be perfect for our special day. He was also willing to work with us on order of ceremony and to add or delete anything we wanted. He also stayed at our reception to help with a candle lighting ceremony which most officiants wouldn't do, he never raised his prices even though we asked him to do an additional ceremony.

Thank God for Mr. Kuzma! He made us feel so blessed to be married! Mr. Kuzma did not only make us feel blessed, but also made our family who were there to witness and support us feel so comfortable that they could not stop paying him compliments! His warmth and generosity towards our four year son was one of many highlights to this beautiful memory! He was humble and displayed amazing grace. He gave us heartfelt sincere advice to help us in our newly married life. Mr. Kuzma saved our wedding. When we called him at 8:30 the night before we wanted to be wed, he answered. After our original officiant canceled on us, my Husband and I searched for someone to help us begin our lives together. Mr. Kuzma really saved the day and he is the sole reason that my Husband and I are married. He held a very lovely ceremony especially on such short notice. As an ordained minister with my own congregation, I have performed many religious wedding ceremonies.
Recently I had the opportunity to attend a Civil Ceremony joining a couple from different religious backgrounds performed by Michael Kuzma, Marriage Commissioner ('Justice of the Peace') of Newport News. I was so impressed by the sincere, meaningful ceremony that Commissioner Kuzma performed for this couple that I felt compelled to share my appreciation and admiration for his efforts in adding dignity and substance to this couple's most special day of their lives. Well done Commissioner Kuzma.

The morning of our wedding, we found out we no longer had someone to officiate the ceremony. Mr. Kuzma answered our call at 8:30 am and agreed to change his plans and officiate our wedding at 4:00 pm that afternoon. We were anxious not having met him before. He was professional, has a great sense of humor which helped greatly! His ceremony was wonderful and no dull moments. It was the best thing that could have happened was to have Mr. Kuzma to marry us and thanks for joining us in our celebration! Mr. Kuzma is a real treasure!! Thanks again.

Michael Kuzma is such an adorable person!
We got the paperwork done on court and called him right away. We didn't knew we were supposed to have a officiant as the court wouldn't have one.
In a matter of minutes, he had us on his office and married us. It was perfect! He have a room fully decorated just for weddings. And made our moment even more special.

We couldn't have asked for a better officiant than Commissioner Kuzma! His kindness and accommodating spirit, along with the beautiful wedding parlor, made our day so special for us. We have no family here in Newport News but the warmth of the parlor combined with his genuine interest in our happiness easily compensated for the absence of our loved ones! Thank you Commissioner!!

I contacted Mr. Kuzma less than a week before I had planned to get married. He returned my phone call right away. He already had a wedding planned for that day but his son performed our ceremony right along the beautiful river right in front of Mr. Kuzma's house he was gracious to mention for a ceremony location. I live 500 miles away from my now husband and Mr. Kuzma was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about the area and gave me very helpful directions. He was always available and very helpful and I was extremely happy with everything :)

Found Michael Kuzma in the Yellow Pages, left him a message and he returned the phone call promptly. Being 3 hours away, he was very help full with setting up an appointment. Mr. Kuzma stayed in contact with us throughout the planing stages and was more than helpful offering suggestions. While getting caught in traffic on our way to the wedding he was greatly helpful with supplying short cut directions and especially accommodating showing up 20 min late. Overall the establishment was nice and well decorated for a small wedding. He helped with taking pictures and setting up a place to video the ceremony. Very personable and helpful man. Struck home a bit when he got a little emotional thanking the both of us for severing our country and wishing us a happy future together. Over all i feel he greatly loves his job bring two happy people together.

Mr. Kuzman has spunk! He is very wise, is a straight shooter and if you ask a question, he will tell it like it is. He has a fiery way about him which may come off a bit strong over the phone but both my hubby and I can tell you that we got it 100% right when we asked him to officiate our wedding. Our ceremony was beautiful! He read the most beautiful & perfect passages and had us both emotional hearing them. He made a man who frowns on emotions teary!! He is dependable, gave us a peace of mind that all would come together perfectly (and it did)!
When you look for an officiant, don't just go for the good salesman... look for service from someone who has the knowledge, experience and will be there for you on your most special/important day! Thank you again Mr. Kuzman! =)

Michael showed up on time and did a great job both at the wedding and the rehearsal. We got the signed license back promptly. The only complaint that I have is that when he couldn't reach my husband, who is active duty on a ship, he left some rude voicemails for the wedding coordinator and called me and berated me because no one was returning his calls. Mr. Kuzma is very sweet in person and brings a lot of personality to the ceremony but he can come off as abrasive on the phone.

He ruined my wedding

I found Mr.Kuzma after doing a simple google search. A quick read of the reviews and prices from former clients, ultimately made me pick him. He came highly recommended and past customers said he was affordable. I've never been married before, so I had nothing to compare prices to. However, I made an appointment to see him anyways. The first appointment he was late as he had a personal medical obligation to attend to, most certainly understood. we went inside and went over the details of the wedding, signed a contract etc. My wedding to include a flower girl, ring bearer and my 9 year old son who was giving me away. the day of the wedding as we did not rehearse prior to, tried our best to coordinate the flow and order of how the kids were to come down the aisle with music etc. According to the order Mr. Kuzma said things would happen. He yelled at me, the BRIDE, said I wasn't listening to him. Yelled at my stepson who was swinging his ponytail from side-to-side as he was standing next to him. He physically took the hat off of my stepdad's head and turned it around because he didn't like that he was wearing it backwards. He yelled at my stepdad to get back in line as my step father was moving around to get a better angle on the pictures he was taking. I literally bust out into tears after we were done being wedded. I couldn't have even imagined my wedding going any worse than what it was. Thanks to Mr. Kuzma, I will forever, regrettably remember that day. Don't let his age and size fool you, he is a MONSTER!

I was in the wedding party of a wedding Mr. Kuzma officiated and I was very disappointed in his services. He was rude and unprofessional throughout the entire wedding weekend. Before the rehearsal, after introductions were made to the groomsmen he was jokingly asked to repeat all the men's names. He proceeded to call my husband and the rest of the wedding party s**t heads and a** holes. This offended the entire party and displayed his unprofessionalism. He continued to make snide comments throughout the rest of the rehearsal and throughout the wedding. For example, he continued to gripe, "I wasn't paid to stand out in the rain." I am sorry, but he was paid and signed a contract to conduct the ceremony and nothing in the contract did it state that he would not conduct the ceremony in inclement weather. And, for the record, there was only a couple of drizzles in which none of the guests even felt the need to utilize their own umbrellas throughout the entirety of the ceremony or when congratulating the bride and groom after the ceremony. He also continued to glare and make rude comments towards the 4-year-old flower girl who did an incredible job in the stressful situation. During the ceremony she had a nosebleed causing her to have the sniffles. Mr. Kuzma paused while officiating to glare at her and continued to give her numerous glares throughout the rest of the ceremony. Although, he did offer her his handkerchief for approximately two seconds and ripped it back out of her hands. Other guests complained to me that they heard him refuse to use the microphone for the ceremony. In his response to the bride's comment he makes it seem like this was her fault as she insisted on being raised above everyone else. However, this was nothing more than the layout of the venue and he should have considered his environment before refusing the microphone to ensure he could be heard. I have never experienced such uncivil behavior in a paid professional.

Was cheated

We got married in 2017, told Mr. Kuzma this was my first wedding. It was the worse civil ceremony, it lasted 15 minutes. There was a prayer, vows, another prayer and that was it. He did nothing to make it special, there was no warmth or romance added to it. I got cheated out of what should have been a memorable experience, and I was disappointed, hurt and angry. I would not recommend this man to anyone.

I was a member of a wedding officiated by Mr. Kuzma.
The problems with Mr. Kuzma began, of all times, shortly before the start of the ceremony. The bride opted to not use Mr. Kuzma for the rehearsal, as her wedding coordinator had advised her that Mr. Kuzma's additional fee for attending a rehearsal was very high and uncommon. Approximately 25 minutes prior to the ceremony the day of, Mr. Kuzma was stomping around the venue asking for the bride. When he showed up to the dressing room where the bride was having her makeup done, he asked, "So how're we going to do this?" The room was quiet as she tried to understand what he meant, and he then barked, "Well, you didn't want me here last night for the rehearsal so I need to know how this is going to happen." I quickly directed him to the wedding coordinator, as that was a highly inappropriate tone and conversation to have with any bride shortly before her ceremony. After he left, the bride explained that he was adding to her stress, as he had made it clear that if the ceremony was behind even 10 minutes, he would leave the venue. The wedding coordinator later expressed her shock at this stipulation, and mentioned that it was outrageous and unreasonable.
During the ceremony, Mr. Kuzma continued to act inappropriately. He barked at the 4-year-old flower girl to "SLOW DOWN!" as she was walking down the aisle, causing her to stop abruptly with a stricken look on her face. As the father of the bride kissed the bride and turned to hand her over to the groom and congratulate him with a hug, Mr Kuzma again barked at the father of the bride saying, "You can go sit down now."
The couple continue to hear new stories from guests of his unprofessionalism.
It seems to me that Mr. Kuzma is in the wrong line of work. He has little patience for anyone and has no problem being mean to little children or embarrassing people in front of large groups of guests. I am highly disappointed and embarrassed by how he conducted himself.

A wedding is the most special day and we felt that it was almost ruined by how he was acting. We set a specific time and he arrived 10 minutes early he dropped his cane opened his folder and immediately started did not ask if we were ready or asked if everyone was here. Even worse, during the ceremony he would continue to stop when something didn't go specifically how he wanted and yelled. He was rude to our guests and he was rude to us. My friend moved closer to take pictures of us and he stopped to tell him to go somewhere else. We specifically asked for a non religious ceremony and he completely overlooked our request. He stopped in the middle of the vows just to tell me to not chew gum. He stopped my wedding multiple times and that's Unacceptable. The icing on the cake was towards the end when we had questions on our next steps in getting a copy of our marriage license. I didn't understand what he was explaining and his frustration came out. He raised his voice after I explained my self saying no you didn't do that as if I don't know what I did or didn't do like he was there with me getting the licenses, he had an angry attitude and embarrassed me in front of my new husband and guests. Stating that he has done this over 2000 times and I'm not going to tell him he's wrong. At that point I just said ok sir fine I'll just go on monday to the court house to get what I need just to shut him up and get him to leave because he just wasn't having it. It was my understanding that this was my special day and I paid for a service. The standards of service were no where near met. If the person providing them service has a issue, these issues should be addressed privately. Your track record of great reviews spoke highly of you and I was eager to work with you but you turned out to be a massive disappointment.

Mr kuzma is extremely rude and unprofessional. He took something that was supposed to be meaningful and nice and completely ruined it. I am not going to go on and on about this but I will give you an example. He got a phone call in the middle of our vows and decided to take it and said, "I'm in the middle." And hung up. I would not recommend him to anyone

I'm pretty disappointed in Mr. Kuzma. He showed one face to me, and another face to my wedding party, family, and friends. After my rehearsal, I started hearing terrible reports about his behavior. He cursed at various members of my wedding party. They were shocked and offended, and so was I. My husband asked me, before the wedding, to switch officiants because he was so upset. Since we had already rehearsed, I didn't know what to do, but I thought it would be fine.

He continued to be insulting and unprofessional with my wedding party and family. The stories that I've heard since then are shocking! He also refused to use a microphone in my outdoor venue, which meant that my readers had a hard time being loud enough to be heard, and the people in the back couldn't hear much of anything that went on.

A wedding is not the place for profanity, especially for someone you hired to be there as a professional. And to treat our nearest and dearest friends and family that way was shocking to me! He also tried to make adjustments to the ceremony without consulting me, and said that he felt he wasn't paid to conduct the ceremony in the rain. (When I hired him, he made a joke about how I'd have to pay a premium to have him on a Sunday, so I do feel that I adequately paid him. Besides, it didn't rain.)

Mr. Kuzma also wore red pants and a white jacket to my ceremony. It totally clashed with my color scheme, and looked absolutely garish. Everyone is joking about it now. I try to laugh, but it makes me want to cry. My photographer said they can photo shop it out. I wish it could be photo shopped out of my memory.
