Tiffany and her team are amazing!
Tiffany and her entire team are amazing! We had to reschedule due to the crazy Texas Winter freeze, and she could have charged us an arm and a leg for having to postpone but she was so honest and sweet to us! We will forever be thankful for Hometown Chef Catering! Their food was delicious and gave me my dream of having a quesadilla bar at our wedding! She had 3 stations at our wedding and our guests loved them all! We went with the quesadilla, pasta, and beef carving station! I loved the flexibility that people could grab 1-3 servings of all different foods if they wanted, and the lines to each station were super short which made the flow easier! The servers were professional and took care of everything so I could enjoy my wedding night! -

What amazing people to work with! Hometown Chef was amazing from the point we reached out through the end of our reception. First off, they were incredibly helpful, understanding, and responsive to us, especially with us trying to plan a wedding in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. The tasting was amazing - it was so fun to talk with Tiffany and Julio and the food was incredible. On the day of the wedding, Hometown Chef delivered with awesome food again, bartenders, cake cutting, and they even helped us last minute with pouring champagne for the toasts. My only regret is that they don't have a restaurant for my wife and I to go to so we can eat their carbonara pasta again! -

So excited to have HC at my wedding!
I ended up booking Hometown Chef prior to having my tasting due to COVID, and all of the spring weddings getting postponed to the fall. I was definitely a little nervous about this, but I was in contact with Donna for weeks (who is amazing at responding and answering all of my MANY questions) and ultimately trusted them being a preferred vendor of my venue. I just had my tasting this past weekend with Tiffany and Chef Julio. My fiance and I wanted to include some sort of Korean fusion dishes, and chef was able to do so with our hors d'oeuvres. All of the food had great flavor, and chef asked us for our critiques and took notes to he could make adjustments for our wedding. Chef and Tiffany really wanted to cater us and what we wanted for our special day. Overall, I highly recommend The Hometown Chef and can't wait to have them at our wedding! -

OMG the food was good!!
The Hometown Chef was great. One of our priorities was selecting the best food vendor. We have been to many quinceaneras and weddings where the food was dry or overcooked so we were trying to find a caterer that would ensure that our food was still juicy and warm. They knocked it outta the park! Their food was everything and more. I loved the food and even got to take a to-go plate for the day after the wedding....OMG. The next morning I microwaved the leftovers and it was still so juicy and so good. Thank you sooooo much Hometown Chef! -

Highly Recommend Home Town Catering
From initial tasting to the wedding day celebration, HTC (Tiffany, Donna, MaryAnn) have been terrific. Always professional and willing to help. The buffet table was beautiful with the hammered metal lids on the chafing dishes, the galvanized metal tub for the salad (balsamic dressing is outstanding), along with the extra touches of greenery and natural twig balls. Our guests commented on how they really enjoyed the dinner. Captain (Aaron) and his crew (Anthony, Kelsey and Raiza) were terrific. Very helpful, very professional, very attentive and everything was executed according to plan. The wedding cake was somewhat involved so kudos for the cake cutting too. I highly recommend Home Town Catering. -

Fantastic chef and caterer. Highly recommend!
We recently used The Hometown Chef for our wedding on 10/13/19 and I cannot explain how pleased I was with the experience of working with these guys. From the initial consult, which they organized as a courtesy to us super last minute, to putting together the menu and all the changes we had, to executing perfectly the day of, the head chef Julio, Tiffany, Donna, all the staff and everyone we worked with was absolutely wonderful. We had a unique component to our wedding (I'm of Ukrainian background) where we brought in our own appetizers and requested The Hometown Chef to plate all of them and serve (for 20 tables as well as the sweetheart table for us). Not a single issue was experienced throughout our evening and on top of that, all our guests were supremely satisfied with the quality/taste of the food. It was immediately evident when we first met the head chef Julio for the tasting that he knows what he is doing and is clearly gifted at his craft. The taste of the food was a massive factor for us and he delivered in spades. Once again, super highly recommend these guys. They were professional, flexible, Affordable (!), courteous and trustworthy. Thank you so much for what you did for us on our wedding day. It will not soon be forgotten. -

100% recommend. Amazing!!
If you want people coming up to you during your wedding to tell you how much they loved the food, look no further. You have found the right caterer! The Hometown Chef catered our evening wedding on April 22, 2019. We had served appetizers and buffet. This catering service knocked it out of the park. All the food was moist and fresh, which was even more impressive because it was a buffet. I strongly recommend the blackened Tilapia with Cajun Butter Sauce! If you go with this catering team, not only will you have amazing food and beautiful presentation but great service. For example, when we were taking bridal photos during the guests cocktail hour some of the Hometown staff came over to pass out horderves to the bridal party without anyone asking. Even before the big day Donna and Terrie were amazing to work with. Email communication was quick and efficient. They also made organizing our menus easy and stress-free. They worked with our budget and found creative ways to make things work with no sacrifice to quality. I have nothing but good words to say about this service; friendly, helpful, supportive, just wonderful. If you are considering going with them I say do it! As a bride, I truly valued not having to worry about the food and it felt great when so many people told me how much they loved it. Thank you The Hometown Chef for making my big day so delicious!! -

Great company, great people, great food!
Hometown Chef was amazing! The staff was so attentive, yet not in anyone's way, or being disruptive in any way. They constantly checked on the Groom and I throughout the night to make sure we got to eat, and had 2nds if we wanted, and even came and found me to experience the smores bar before it was cleaned up. I thought that was very sweet. The planning process was extremely easy with them, and I didn't even give them a whole lot to go on. They just built my dream menu pretty much for me, and even accommodated my gluten allergy with class and ease! Nobody even realized the entire wedding was gluten free! Since this was a big concern of mine about the food for the big day, I think they deserve 10 freakin stars for pulling it off so expertly! I will say, people are STILL talking about the mashed potato martini bar! Not only was it fun, but those potatoes were AMAZING!!! Thank you, again, Tiffany and Julio! You guys rock! And your staff is out of this world! -

Serendipity!
Tiffany, Chef Julio, and The Hometown Chef team came to our rescue and we couldn’t have been happier! It was definitely serendipitous and I am a firm believer in “meant to be” ...obviously! After things did not work out with our initial caterer, I began to panic because our wedding was only 2 months away. However, my sister is in the industry, and she and her colleagues highly recommended The Hometown Chef. So, we emailed Tiffany and she was extremely prompt in responding to our inquiry and setting up a meet and greet. Tiffany even offered to meet us near our home, which was so thoughtful as their office is quite far from us. She is energetic, personable, and we instantly felt a connection that not only brought us a huge sense of relief but it was then that we knew we wanted The Hometown Chef to cater our wedding. We chose the Tex-Mex menu and the tasting was truly spectacular from the presentation to the intimate conversation we were able to have with Chef Julio and Tiffany. It was by far one of the best meals I’ve ever had and the personal attention from Chef Julio and Tiffany was even better! The enchiladas, chicken fajitas, refried beans, and spanish rice were to die for!! Moreover, it was Chef Julio and Tiffany’s professionalism that left us completely at ease on our big day and we couldn’t possibly recommend anyone higher! Do yourselves a favor and save some time by choosing The Hometown Chef for your event! -

We hit a GRANDSLAM when we chose The Hometown Chef Catering Co. to cater our wedding!!!
Planning a wedding can be stressful- fortunately the staff at Hometown Chef took any and all the stress out of catering! I loved how easy it was to get along with them, and how friendly they were throughout our whole planning process! I immediately loved that this was a husband and wife team- and not only was their love for each other apparent (and so stinkin’ cute!) but their love for food, and what they do was always present!
We received SO many compliments from our guests on how good everything was! Everything was cooked perfectly, and served hot!
When I walked into our first tasting and requested mini hotdogs, (and other ballpark food items to go along with our Houston Astros themed cocktail hour), Tiffany didn’t look at me like I was crazy.. instead her face LIT UP with excitement with the idea! I was sold. Her energy was infectious!!
I can 100% say that Chef Julio, Tiffany & the entire staff at Hometown Chef brought my vision to life and then some!!!!! The service was incredible, and their attention to each and every detail made this detail oriented bride’s heart go pitter patter!!!
The communication with Hometown Chef was the BEST! They were incredibly responsive to my numerous questions & emails! (Thanks for putting up with me, y’all)
Hiring The Hometown Chef Catering Co. was by far, the best decision! We will be forever grateful for all that they did for us on our big day! -

They were AMAZING !!! From our first phone conversation, to our private tasting, to the amazing wait staff, our decision to hire The Hometown Chef Catering Co was definitely the right one. Planning a wedding is so stressful, but Tiffany and her staff took the stress right out of the catering. Everyone at the wedding talked about how nice and professional the wait staff was, and how good the food tasted. We would absolutely hire them again if we had it to do over again. We would like to personally thank all of them for doing such an amazing job and making our wedding perfect. -

Hometown Chef Catering was amazing! The food was great and the service was even better! Tiffany and her staff went above and beyond for our wedding. From the initial contact, we always felt completely taken care of. They even had appetizers in the bridal suite for my husband and myself after the ceremony. All my husband wanted was the cowboy meatballs! Tiffany made sure he had his fill. I was never worried about the catering. Absolutely amazing!!! -

100% recommend Hometown Chef! My mom and I went to their tasting and were immediately blown away by not only their food but their passion for the business. Even though we had a small wedding of ~50 people, they helped us create a custom menu and Tiffany was super responsive to my numerous questions and emails. I didn't have a planner at all for my wedding, but Tiffany called the week before going over every detail from setup to the food. The crew that arrived on the day of were great and everything went perfect. Obviously food was delicious -- our guests loved the chimichurri shrimp and mac & cheese! Thanks again!! -

The Hometown Chef Catering Co. really went above and beyond for our catering needs. From the moment I first spoke to them to the day of our wedding, I was happy with our decision to go with this company. Our alcohol caterer didn't even say anything to me, but Tiffany walked right up to talk to me, say hello, and make sure I didn't have anything on my dress. She also made sure we were taken care of in line and got us food. She checked on us throughout the night (and not in an annoying way). The food was great and the price was excellent. I highly recommend them and will use them again for any caterer events. I also loved that the costs were told to me upfront. I didn't get a surprise "management fee" like at other places. -

The Hometown Chief is amazing. Chief Julio was amazing. Having lived in Puerto Rico for several years, I knew that it was meant to be when we found him. The tostones were a big hit with the guests — so much so that I didn’t get to try any of them.
When picking our dinner, there was a wide variety of things to choose from and plenty of flexibility to customize the menu. Any questions I had were addressed immediately and the food was all deliciously prepared. I can’t say enough for the filet carving station. If I hadn’t been so busy doing wedding things, I would have piled a plate up with those silver dollar rolls and hidden myself in some corner to enjoy them. The staff were all very professional and made sure that we were taken care of at all times.

If you want a caterer that makes awesome food, has a top notch staff, and is very reasonably priced, book The Hometown Chef now! Seriously, they are amazing!! They catered and covered bar-tending services at our wedding and it was such a great experience. We had a serious downpour on our wedding day and even through the rain (and some flooding!) they served up delicious food and provided drinks for our guests until the end. They are also wonderful to work with in planning for your event. The staff is quick to respond and there's no such thing as a silly question. I can't say enough about how wonderful this company is. If you work with them, you won't be disappointed! -

We used The Hometown Chef for a formal reception at a downtown Houston venue for 75 guests. I was very confident from the moment we booked that all would be well. Jennifer communicated every detail of what to expect from the staff and patiently and quickly answered every question I had. The day of the event I had no worries and was extremely pleased with the staff, the food, and the clean up. Our guests loved the food. The Mediterranean Salad was beautiful and the hot foods were hot and delicious! Everything was gluten free except the rolls and dessert. Food was plentiful and the dessert was good too. I look forward to having an occasion to use The Hometown Chef in the future. The value of the food was excellent and the peace of mind priceless. -

We used the Hometown Chef for my sisters bridal shower as part of the exclusive package they have with The Overlook.
Tiffany was nice and extremely flexible with us and we greatly appreciated her going above and beyond so we could use that lovely venue. -

The Hometown chef was a wonderful catering company for my wedding. Tiffany and Jessica communicated with me on a regular basis to make sure my food and beverage choices were just right. They also were very flexible with the timeline to provide a final guest count, and that saved us a good deal of money. The staff on my wedding day was wonderful! All of my guests complimented the food and the service. The mashed potato bar was a huge hit, and I know everyone was satisfied with their meals. I would absolutely recommend The Hometown chef to all of my friends. -

There aren't words to describe how awesome The Hometown Chef is! Chef Julio is absolutely amazing and Tiffany is simply a joy to work with!! They always went out of their way to make sure I felt comfortable with each decision that I needed to make.
Not only that, but the food was AMAZING! For our wedding, we chose to do food stations. We had a BBQ Slider station with brisket and pulled pork, a macaroni and cheese bar with incredible topping options, and a quesadilla bar with chicken and beef. We got a ton of complements on each of these, they were awesome! -

Wedding Catering
I loved working with Hometown Chef! Their tasting was so delicious and all the staff were great in terms of sending me new invoices to keep up with all my changes, as well as just great communication. Highly recommend them and would use them for any other event. Appetizers are THE BOMB. They were really accommodating with us and our multiple wedding date changes as well as our food restrictions. Very flexible with the bar as well! Only critique I have were more so on the wedding day itself. My wedding day my planner had handed one of the staff that was attending my dessert table some containers for guests to package left over desserts. At the end of the night she found them on the floor under the table so unfortunately I had a lot of dessert go to waste. Honestly that's not really the company's fault as a whole but more so just the individual who was attending the table. Overall highly recommend. Thank you so much for helping to make our day amazing! -

The Hometown Chef did an AMAZING job for our wedding at the Gardens at Madeley Manor. They are willing to work with you to create a menu that fits your event. We wanted to have a traditional family style dinner, which is pretty unconventional for weddings, but Tiffany was immediately on board when we brought up the idea to her! Make sure to go for a tasting so you can meet the chef and taste all the great food options they have to offer. The Staff was very professional during our wedding and we were beyond impressed with the quality of food.
We did have issues with communicating via email and with the invoice system that they used during the process, but it just took a quick phone call to get everything sorted out! -

The Hometown Chef is a wonderful cater to use for your special day. Chef Jose and his staff created a delicious buffet for my family and guests to enjoy. Catering Manager, Jennifer, worked with our unique needs to create our brunch feast- including a make your own waffle bar- and gave us options to meet everyone's dietary needs.

I went with Hometown Chef for my wedding because they were my only choice with the venue that I had my event at. I was okay with that, though. The service was above and beyond from the planning stages to the time of the event. Everyone was very kind and friendly and very flexible when it came to what and how I wanted to serve at my wedding. The reason that did not receive 5 stars from me is because the food was delicious but I am not sure it reached the bar that I had set for them in my mind. Then again, I barely got to eat any of it as I was the bride. We did get food to-go for our hotel room that night but it was not everything that was served, which is okay. I would still recommend them to my friends! -

As a chef & owner of my own catering company, it was hard to find a caterer within our budget who was as good as the best that I'm aware of in Houston (i.e. A Fare Extraordinaire, Cordua, etc.). We found the Hometown Chef, and after a few emails and phone calls, we felt confident that they would provide creative and delicious dishes to impress our wedding guests who knew of my profession. Unfortunately their descriptions of the food was all talk, and we were EXTREMELY disappointed when we saw the final result on our wedding day.
I sent them a polite email the following day describing everything that was done wrong and said I would not leave a bad review, expecting that they would respond to my email like a professional to maybe explain why things didn't turn out- with good reasons. As I expected, this small company is not run professionally, so they completely ignored my email. I decided that future brides should then be aware of their service quality.
We had action stations at our wedding, and most of them were not replenished after guests had gone up to get food, so they were having to wait around by the stations instead of dancing and enjoying the wedding. Most of our passed appetizers looked either rushed or like no thought at all was put into the presentation. A few of our guests were nervous to eat the tuna ceviche because they said it looked like cat food (which it did).
Overall, don't use this caterer if you want food that looks appetizing and well-presented. This is definitely for budget brides who just need a meal to feed their guests, nothing more. -

We were on a really tight budget and wanted a simplified buffet for our wedding ceremony. Hometown Chef came closest to our budget out of the list of my venue's required caterers. However, we had a lot of difficulty contacting them and getting responses to our inquiries after initially being promised they could work with us, which added onto our stress. I finally had to ask my venue manager to intervene to get a response. After 3 months of trying to get a hold of the company, we were told they had been going through some personal and organizational issues. We had negotiated to include cake cutting in with my package to make up for the inconvenience, and It seemed like everything would get back on track.
They were nice enough to give us a special tasting of the Italian Sausage w/ Tortellini dish we picked and even met the chef. It was awesome at the tasting, so we took special care in requesting (wrote it down on the contract) to have it served just the way we had it there. However at the reception, the dish was merely "meh". It seemed to have less meat and wasn't topped off with Parmesan cheese and parsley like at the tasting. After all of that, no one could tell me what happened to the leftovers of the food we had rightfully paid for. The venue manager said the caterers usually pack it up for the bride and groom to take. When I called the manager the next day, she said that it is the venue's responsibility. No one from Hometown Chef even bothered to ask us or anyone else what we wanted done with the leftovers. It was assumed the food was thrown away. As a thrifty bride, I wanted to cry. Even if the food wasn't great, we had paid for it and could've saved it in the freezer to doctor up and eat later! The whole experience was a bit disappointing, but I had to chuck the whole experience to "Oh well. You get what you pay for". -

Tl;dr - fiancée and i got catfished. Would not recommend!
Let me start off by saying that I understand that catering is difficult due to travel time for the food and cooking in mass quantities. That said, what we got was NOWHERE NEAR what was promised and we were extremely disappointed.
When we went to our menu tasting, the food was amazing! We were both really excited because the options we chose tasted great and we had hoped our wedding would be the one to actually have good food for once (spoilers: it didn't). Among the dishes were salmon, chicken, brussel sprouts, "adult" mac and cheese, as well as garlic bread and salad.
Fast forward to the big day, we get our plate of food and immediately notice it doesn't look quite like what we had tried and expected. Ok, it takes time to get to the venue and food doesn't stay fresh forever, but taste and quality-wise it was akin to getting stale fast food - at least with old fast food, you know what to expect!
Food:
I thought the chicken was decently tender with an average sauce whereas my fiancée said her piece of chicken was bland and overcooked. My piece of salmon, as well as a few other guests, had bones in it. I'm glad the children attending didn't have issues with theirs, but that's not something I should have to worry about! The "adult" mac and cheese which my fiancée had been particularly excited for was basically just Kraft mac and cheese. Seriously. We went from a velvety and saucy mac with a slight kick to basically something most children could make on their own from a box. Garlic bread and salad were pretty standard and the only saving grace from this catering company were the brussel sprouts which actually tasted not too different from what we had tried. For quality reference, we had purchased a lechon (roasted pig) from another restaurant and brought it to the venue in the morning when we arrived to get ready and that was leagues better after 6 HOURS of sitting out compared to the "fresh" catered food.
Conclusion:
We intended to splurge ($60 per person!) on quality food after going through several different vendors and were excited after sampling what HomeTown Chef had to offer. To our displeasure, the product we got on our big day was nothing close to what we were promised. Quality control and consistency among dishes were extremely lax. The chicken had varying degrees of doneness from tender to rubber bullet and unlucky people (myself included) had bones in their pieces of salmon, something you should NEVER have had to worry about in the first place. Taste was a far cry from what we expected. The salmon wasn't as good as we remembered and the "adult" mac and cheese was not any better than something you could get at the grocery store. Gotta give credit where credit is due: whoever cooked the brussel sprouts that day did a good job as that was the only thing that was consistently good. Overall though, I would HIGHLY DISCOURAGE prospective clients from rendering HomeTown Chef's services unless they really step up their game past the initial sampling and can actually deliver even a fraction of what they promise. Honestly, you're better off treating each guest to a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant because at least you know the money you splurge on them will be spent on good food and not the bait-and-switch we had the misfortune of experiencing. -

Horrible experience
Normally I would not write a review but with the service that was provided I have to. During our tasting Chef Julio cooked a perfect meal. Our meals were blackened chicken with a Cajun cream sauce with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus and then a cauliflower parmesan steak with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. We were excited and told all of our friends and family how good the food was going to be the day of our wedding. We realized we should have never said this. The day of our wedding, Chef Julio did not prepare the food like we expected. One of the other chefs cooked the food instead.
According to Chef Julio over the phone, he mentioned he was in the same room while the food was being prepared. When it was dinner time we realized none of the food we had was what we ate during our tasting.
All 100 pieces of chicken were not blackened. The sauce on top was not a Cajun cream sauce. The mashed potatoes were not the same mashed potatoes we had during our tasting. The vegetarian dish (I am vegetarian so this was my dish) only had 3 pieces of cauliflower florets which was supposed to be a cauliflower steak like I had during our tasting. NONE of the vegetarian plates that we paid for, except mine, had asparagus. On the phone, Chef Julio mentioned that he was disappointed when his staff came back with 3 trays left of the cauliflower parmesan. My maid of honor who is also vegetarian never received her food. The craziest part was that they served our guests, RAW CHICKEN!!!! We had about 5-6 tables where people had raw chicken. It was brought to the banquet captain’s attention and he called Tiffany. Our planner heard Tiffany on the phone and mentioned how she sounded very upset. Several of their staffers mentioned that if they were served this chicken they wouldn’t eat it either.
Let’s fast forward to after the wedding. We talked with our planner and she mentioned that Tiffany would be giving my husband and I a call on Monday morning.
Monday comes around and we have not received a call. I called the main office and spoke with Raiza. She must have called Tiffany and told her that we called. I also called Tiffany after and she texted me saying “Can I call you later”. This response was quite strange because all of our communication had been by email or over the phone. There was 1 text message sent from her the week before the wedding asking if we could hop on a call to go over last minute details. I responded saying that it was fine but it was something that needed to be discussed that day. She responded saying that she understands my concerns but basically she needs to speak with her banquet captain before calling me. Now like I mentioned before, they all knew about the situation on Saturday night when the banquet caption called and our planner was there!!! She ends up saying that she will get back to me. Tuesday comes and we have not heard from her so I called the main office frustrated and spoke with Mary Ann. She heard the frustration in my voice from not having a call with Tiffany on Monday after she said she would call me later but then decided not to because she needed to talk with the banquet captain who was at our event first. Mary Ann said that she was the only one in the office because they were now all on the road together heading to a conference.
After I get off the phone with her I called Raiza who, just like Tiffany, never sent a text because all communication was over by email and over the phone except the week before when she was asking if we could hop on a call to go over details. Raiza did not answer the phone and sent me a message saying “text me”. At this point my husband and I felt like we were not being taken seriously. I mentioned to both Tiffany and Raiza in separate texts, that this situation was becoming unprofessional since the communication between us had always been by email or over the phone. Also that a situation like this should not be taken lightly especially since raw chicken was served. About 5 minutes later Raiza texted me saying they were calling now. We got on the phone with Tiffany, Raiza, Chef Julio, & the banquet chef. This was the 1st time speaking on the phone with all of them about all the issues. At first they tried to make it seem like we were lying about the raw chicken. Also they said that all of the vegetarians got out of there seat which is why none of the vegetarians were served their food. This was definitely not true because all of them received their plates except my maid of honor who stayed seated but was never served. When we mentioned this they absolutely had nothing to say.
We all continued going back and forth on the phone for the next few days trying to deal with these issues. Nothing was resolved until Thursday. It was like pulling teeth to get in contact with them or a response from them which is crazy because prior, the wedding communication between them was so easy. Thank goodness our honeymoon was not right after the wedding because that would’ve ruined our whole trip dealing with this.
To all my future brides looking to book with this company, I hope you do not experience what we went through. Now we will always have to think of this situation whenever we mention our wedding.
To Hometown chef I hope you all learned a lot from this situation and if anything like this happens again I hope you handle it 20x better than how you handled it with my husband and I. -

The Hometown Chef was incredibly disappointing on our wedding day. The food we received at our tastings was NOT what we received on our wedding day. We selected green beans almandine and roasted potatoes for our sides. At our tastings, the beans were whole, crisp, and flavorful and the potatoes herb roasted. At the wedding, we were served mushy, canned, split green beans and bland boiled potatoes. Our chicken was rubbery and the steak researed and an off-color. The piss-poor quality was nowhere near the $65 a person we paid for and was frankly, very insulting. Even our guests commented on the food, which was very embarrassing. I do not recommend these caterers to any Houston bride or groom! -
