    The Courthouse is Fantastic!

My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Courthouse and it was such a beautiful venue! Mallory was fantastic with answering our questions along the way. Our guests told us many time how much they loved the venue - Decatur Square is really cute for out-of-town guests to explore. We were soso happy with our special day!

    The DeKalb History Center's reply:

Thank you so much for the kind words. We really enjoyed hosting your special day. Please let me know if you ever need anything in the future. Best wishes - Mallory

    Our Perfect Wedding Venue!!

We were married at the DHC on 2/22/25, and it was truly a dream come true! This venue is a GEM located in the heart of Decatur Square. We wanted something historical, in the city, and within budget. Honestly, it seemed pretty impossible until we found DHC. The venue itself is stunning - the marble, the windows, the staircase…I could go on and on. The preferred vendors are awesome!!! And thank God for Mallory. She was super responsive and an extra shoutout to her for tracking down my purse after it was left at the venue (oops!). Please don’t hesitate to book this place! Our guests continue to tell us how charming and wonderful the space is. It was perfect in every way! Thank you Mallory and team!!!

    Beautiful & affordable venue!

The Historic Dekalb Courthouse was a perfect wedding venue for us. It's location can't be beat - our out of town guests could walk to get anything they needed. Most didn't get in their cars all weekend! The flow of ceremony/cocktail hour/reception was perfect, and I love that we didn't have to move to multiple locations. The building itself is beautiful and was such a grand backdrop for our evening (and our pictures!). We had no issues - I would definitely recommend this venue to future couples!

    Classic and beautiful venue

I fell in love with this venue the moment I saw it! We had held our intimate wedding ceremony here and not only is it beautiful on the outside but it is beautiful on the inside which is a bonus when the weather won’t allow for any outdoor pictures. Mallory was very informative and gave us all the details we needed which was appreciated. There are plenty of nearby restaurants near by also. We don’t regret choosing this venue not one bit!

Great venue located in the heart of Decatur Square!

Mallory is a pro - quick to respond and easy work with. The venue is perfect if you have out of town guests as it is located close to restaurants and within walking distance of two hotels (Hampton Inn and Courtyard). Great venue located in the heart of Decatur Square!

    Simply the perfect venue

The first decision we made for our wedding was to have it at this venue, and it paved the way for an absolutely perfect process! The venue is gorgeous, and the location can't be beat. It's a STEAL compared to other venues in the market. We chose vendors off the venue's preferred list, and each one knocked it outta the park. Mallory at the venue was lovely to work with as well. Our guests were really wowed by the beautiful marble, windows, floors, lighting, lobby, steps - just all of it. I'd never hesitate to have an event here, attend one, or recommend it to friends/family. (Oh, one perk we liked - you get to bring in your own alcohol for the bar. It saved us money, and our home bar is now fully stocked, thanks to leftovers!)

Thank you so so much for the kind words! We really enjoyed working with you guys too. Please send me pictures when you get them back. Thanks again and congrats!

Beautiful, Classic Venue and Amazing Staff

The Historic DeKalb Courthouse was the top choice for our wedding ceremony and reception. The beautiful stone columns and steps outside, and the marble walls and warm, neutral color palette inside were perfect for our wedding vision. The main ceremony room has wonderful natural lighting, and the first-floor level is the perfect space for a cocktail hour. The bridal suite was clean and spacious, and there is designated space for vendor load-in/out, which is helpful. Mallory, the Rental and Preservation Coordinator, is a joy to work with! She was patient and accommodating for walk-throughs, and very prompt with communication. We cannot say enough about how amazing and welcoming she was to us and our vendors. Location-wise, this venue is a gem! Located on the downtown Decatur square, it is perfectly distanced from hotels, retails shops and restaurants. We continue to receive positive comments from guests about our choice of wedding venue. We highly recommend the Historic DeKalb Courthouse to anyone looking for a beautiful, classic space for their wedding or special event!

Our guests' jaws dropped walking in

When we were looking at wedding venues we only went to see one: The Historic DeKalb County Courthouse. One tour was all we needed to see that it would be the perfect place for us, and it definitely was!

From the start of planning to the day-of info, Mallory and the team there made everything so easy. They kept in communication at key dates and were flexible (and patient) with all our little changes.

If you love white marble, this would be the perfect place to have your wedding. Colors pop like crazy. We had so many guests just plain gasp when they walked into the main ceremony hall to see the extremely high ceilings and amazing architectural details. We couldn't have asked for better.

    Classy Venue at Great Price

We definitely recommend having your ceremony and reception at the Historic DeKalb Courthouse, which was naturally beautiful, in a great walkable location, and budget-friendly. Mallory was communicative and professional, and helped everything run smoothly, from tours, selecting vendors, scheduling, and execution of the wedding itself. We used the baby grand piano for the ceremony, which needed tuning due to its age, and recommend Rick's Pianos for tuning. The venue was clean, spacious, and needed minimal decor in the windows and altar to be stunning. We recommend this venue to anyone wanting a classy wedding for a great price!

    Don't hesitate BOOK NOW!

This place was everything I could have dreamed of and more! Mallory was so amazing, we knew exactly what to expect every step of the way. Even when the elevator was out of service she was more than accomodating giving the vendors extra time to load in and out and even allowing us to come back the next day to pick up items. The hall is stunning, elegant, conveniently located and the most unique style you'll find in the area, hands down! Book today, you won't regret it!

Gorgeous space, fantastic staff - book it now!

We LOVED our wedding at the Historic DeKalb Courthouse! Mallory was always incredibly helpful and efficient in her communications. The venue is gorgeous - it's every bit as beautiful in real life as it is in the pictures. And because of the beauty of the venue itself, we were able to worry less about florals and decorations since the atmosphere was so classy on its own. Another fantastic point about this venue is fact that you can hold both ceremony and reception in the same space. We had family from north Georgia drive in and it was so nice to have everything in once place to avoid people getting lost trying to get to multiple locations. The staff and house-recommended vendors worked seamless together leaving little to nothing for myself and my family to do on our special day. If you're considering booking this venue DO IT. You won't be disappointed!

    Prime location

I loved the simple yet classy look to this venue! The staff was great to work with and our vendors knew exactly how to navigate the space. We ended up purchasing an additional hour to make sure that we had plenty of time on the wedding day. I continue to receive positive comments from our guests regarding the venue. Following the reception, our party continued in The Square - perfect location! This is where you want to have your wedding!

    Amazing and Affordable Venue

We had our wedding reception at the Dekalb History Center in November 2019 with our wedding ceremony at a church offsite. This venue books FAST, likely based on it's amazing price and location. We luckily snagged the last 2019 date when we were venue hunting in the fall of 2018 after a cancellation. Mallory was very easy to work with as the venue coordinator to schedule a site visit and to book the venue. Our wedding was the same day as the Decatur Wine Fest so she gave our vendors extra time to unload and setup at no extra cost. She also followed up right after our wedding to discuss the evening, which we thought was very nice. The venue fit our 150 guests perfectly with a large estate table, a 6 piece band, one bar and a photobooth. Cocktail hour was kind of crowded with this amount of guests because it was too cold to use any outdoor space but it was definitely manageable. The dance floor was on the smaller side with our setup but it made the dance area feel full and everybody had so much fun. A big perk of this place is the ability to provide your own alcohol which saves a lot of $. We did a bubble send off in the front of the venue as they don't allow sparklers anymore but it ended up looking great! The DHC location is amazing for out of town guests with ample restaurants and easy MARTA access. We booked our guest block at the Hampton Inn and held our rehearsal dinner at Parkers on Ponce, both which are only one block away. We also recommend Bloom Florals, Emerald Empire Band and Sun In My Belly for catering. Overall would highly recommend DHC!

    Perfect Venue for our Wedding

From the moment we met with Mallory for tour, all the way up to our wedding, we knew we had chosen the right venue! The space was accommodating for all our needs, and possessed that old charm, while still maintaining a blank slate for us to customize. The marble large windows were the perfect backdrop and detail that required little decoration. Our ceremony and reception was upstairs, and cocktail hour downstairs, which our guests really appreciated! Their elevator made the whole event accessible for my grandmother, which was very important to us. Mallory was accommodating and responsive to all our needs throughout the process, we couldn’t have asked for a better venue.

    Beautiful venue

We wanted a space for our elopement that would feel elegant and official, but allow us some privacy. The lighting in the courtroom was perfect and because we had our ceremony on a weekday afternoon, it was a steal! Also the square is perfect for pictures and celebrating on the town after the ceremony, if it is a small party.

    Our Dream Venue

The Dekalb History Center was absolutely gorgeous and everything we could have dreamed of for our venue. It seated our guests comfortably and the marble walls went well with our color scheme. Wedding Venue of My Dreams!

The Historic Dekalb Courthouse was the wedding venue of my dreams! I fell in love with the venue when my (now) Husband and I would go on dates in Decatur Square. When we got engaged, I knew I wanted to get married there- so I was so pleased when the booking process was such a breeze! The event team were amazing- Mallory was so nice and answered all of my (MANY!) questions. Every step of the process was so easy with this venue. They really helped me create the wedding of my dreams and it was so stress free. If you’re looking to get married in a gorgeous, stunning venue in a great part of Atlanta then this is the best place!

    Classy and Accommodating

If you're looking for a classy venue that is experienced with bringing in outside vendors and lets you bring in your own alcohol, the Historic Dekalb Courthouse in downtown Decatur, GA is perfect! The venue is well-suited to hold a ceremony, reception, cocktail hour, caterers, photography, or anything else you might need. They're prepared and easy to work with. Not to mention the location - the courthouse is surrounded by hotels, transportation, and restaurants, which makes the visit easy for your guests. I have NO regrets about choosing the courthouse, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

As soon as I got engaged, I new the Historic DeKalb courthouse was the place. I had already saved for it and read all the reviews. How can you compete with a venue that is BYOB, includes so much storage, tables and chairs AND requires minimal decor because it's so beautiful?!? I didn't want a long engagement and there was only April 1st 2018 left on the online availability calendar that I had been stalking for a year. After I reserved the date, I realized that was Easter Sunday. I was worried at first but opted for a 1pm Sunday wedding with an Easter dinner buffet. Flash forward, it was the best decision EVER! The natural light that fills that room is insanely fantastic in our wedding photos and video. We had 142 guests with an ample dance floor. Being 80% of guests were from out-of-state, Downtown Decatur square accommodated my guests with access to Marta train station, hotels, restaurants and cute shops all in walking distance. My family and friends thought it was ingenious and it made for a refreshingly different type of wedding that guests called beautiful, urban, energetic, traditional, fun, and boho-chic. Guests (and me) appreciated the ceremony and reception being in the same building. Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the lobby and the courthouse doors were propped open for guests to enjoy cocktails and passed appetizers inside and on the courthouse porch since it was a sunny 80 degree day! I worked with Mallory to get everything squared away. She knows the space very well and was even around during my Saturday AM rehearsal. I was a DIY bride so I was able to bring and store all the décor in a unit in the courthouse basement for my wedding coordinator to access. The courthouse has thought of everything and the space is unique and accommodating! Don't be afraid to host a daytime or Sunday wedding here, it was amazing and my reception was truly a dayparty....LIT!!!!

Had such a fantastic wedding here on March 24th!! Mallory was extremely helpful in coordinating the logistics of the venue rental and made it a seamless process. The venue was beautiful and allowed us to really make the most of the space. The preferred caterer really knew the space as they have been so many times. Everything went out without a hitch and the venue was perfect!!

We had a fantastic experience in choosing the Dekalb History Center for our wedding. The staff members we worked with were all very responsive and helpful, and Mallory was always able to set up times for us to visit the space. We chose a preferred caterer from their list, which made the process extremely seamless, as they were very familiar with the venue.

A few HUGE perks: 1) being able to bring items ahead of time to store. This was a huge help, as we were able to load in all of our decorations and alcohol the Friday before, so it took a lot of the headache out of setup. 2) You can supply your own alcohol. This was a huge cost-saver for us, and seems to be a rare option for many venues. 3) The space is absolutely breathtaking. We both fell in love with it immediately. It feels so grand and sophisticated without being stuffy or pretentious. Our guests just loved it, and the photographs are gorgeous.

My single suggestion for improvement would be to update the bridal suite a bit. It feels a little neglected and dated compared to the beauty of the ballroom and lobby. The space is quite functional for getting ready (and there's a small kitchen for snacks and champagne!), but it doesn't provide the best backdrop, so a little sprucing up would make a huge difference.

Overall, we couldn't be happier, and would highly recommend the venue to others looking for a gorgeous and surprisingly affordable event space.

    The DeKalb History Center's reply:

Thanks so much for the kind review. I'm so glad you enjoyed your time here. Thank you for recommending that we update the bridal suite. We just completed a full renovation of that area. Check out our facebook page Historic DeKalb Courthouse for pictures. Thanks again!

I cannot say enough how magical my wedding was at the Historic Dekalb Courthouse. Mallory was absolutely the best while planning. She was very responsive, answered all my ten thousand questions and was so helpful with vendors / knowledge of the court house. The venue is absolutely stunning. The marble walls and wood detail created the exact romantic vibe I dreamed of for my wedding. The windows and walls are so beautiful on their own that I did not have to do a lot of decorating, which was very budget friendly.

We had a wonderful wedding at the courthouse. Our guests were mainly from out of town and having a hotel, public transit and great bars and restaurants in walking distance made the wedding weekend a breeze. The venue itself is stunning and the staff was helpful and responsive. Would book it again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend Soiree for catering and Peachy Keen Planners for coordination, as the courthouse doesn't offer those services and we found them extremely helpful to helping things run smoothly.

This venue is SO classy, and located on such a fun square which offers a lot for guests to do. The price of this venue was unbeatable, mainly because it was up to us to hire all of the vendors. This venue fit my 140 guests and 5 piece band well, and was absolutely beautiful to use for the ceremony and reception. Highly recommend this venue!

I actually booked the venue blind, without actually seeing it until the day of my ceremony. From all the pictures online, I knew it was beautiful but I had no idea just how beautiful everything would be. The grand room is marble and hardwood and made our pictures absolutely stunning. The staff was accommodating and always willing to answer any questions I may have had. Even without a walk through, this was a solid choice that I'm glad I made.

The Historic DeKalb Courthouse is an absolutely beautiful venue! The staff, especially Mallory, the events director are very responsive and informative. This is a perfect venue for a couple on a budget - very affordable - and so naturally beautiful that you don't have to go over the top with decor or flowers. The venue has tables & chairs that come as a part of the rental - which is also super helpful when trying to stay within a budget. The venue has a preferred list of caters of all styles & price points - using one of their preferred vendors also helped us to save money (no additional deposit needed). Overall this is an amazing venue at an amazing value!

We booked DeKalb History Center at the Historic DeKalb Courthouse for our wedding reception (the ceremony was nearby at Oak Grove United Methodist Church).

The DHC team was incredible beginning with our first meeting tour through the end of the wedding reception (and after, you get the point). The venue is very affordable, rich with history, and rumor has it that there are a few ghosts hanging around in the building (back stairwell behind the main room upstairs). They have a fantastic list of preferred vendors, but allow you to use your own if you don't want to use one of their favorites (small fee). They also allow you to supply your own alcohol, which most other venues do not allow and instead require you to use their overpriced services. We used Fox Brothers BBQ for our catering and, months later, continue to hear our guest's raving reviews of the food and venue.

The venue is breathtaking, so we saved money on floral design and other room decor because it simply was not necessary. Overall, you cannot and will not be disappointed with this venue. I do highly suggest checking it out sooner than later, as most dates were already filled up at the beginning of the year. Good luck!

Most beautiful venue ever! I'm so glad we came across this venue for our wedding reception! Our photographs (the personal not professional) have come out so pretty. The value is almost a steal...I don't know of any venue in the Atlanta area that's as pretty for such a reasonable price. My only negative I can say about this venue is that it's not that suitable for really large receptions but we knew that from the beginning. And we still managed to get close to 200 people in there. But I would recommend you stick to the 150 limit if possible. Even with us going over that limit, we still had enough space for a nice size dance floor and it didn't feel crowded. We LOVED the historic yet romantic look of this venue and we didn't have to spend a lot on flowers to make it look gorgeous! Also, their coordinator Mallory is very helpful and quickly responds to your questions. I highly recommend this venue and feel free to email me if you have any specific questions :)

This venue was absolutely perfect. It is located in a beautiful part of Decatur with easy access to restaurants and nightlife for guests coming in from out of town that may want to stay close by. It was so convenient for us because we were able to have our ceremony and reception in the same location so that no one had to drive anywhere. And it was absolutely gorgeous. The beauty of the venue made it so that decorating was so easy and were able to put our finances in other areas. The venue it self was a huge decoration with the large ceilings and marble floors. It was gorgeous. People are still telling me about how wonderful it was. I'm so happy that I had my wedding here.

The Old Courthouse was the perfect backdrop for our wedding! We held both our ceremony and reception in the main room upstairs, with the cocktail hour downstairs in between. The building is truly beautiful and we felt that it suited our wedding perfectly! The white marble was absolutely stunning in pictures and we didn't need a ton of decor because the building speaks for itself! We accented the white marble with lots of candles and the room looked fabulous! Stacey was also very easy to work with and helped to accommodate our needs. Overall, we were very satisfied with the venue and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get married in a historic, beautiful building that happens to be surrounded by an awesome little square with lots of fun restaurants and bars!

We had our wedding at the Old Historic Courthouse in Decatur on June 1st and it was wonderful! Stacey was great to work with and answered all of our questions from the first viewing to the final days before the wedding. She was very responsive to emails and super friendly. I was worried the building would be really warm since it was June and the building is a little older, but the AC worked great and they also provided a fan for use by the dance floor. The Courthouse is so beautiful and is a perfect setting for a wedding. It is super convenient that the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception call all be held in one building, and there is a hotel within walking distance for guests to stay at. We had many guests tell us what a beautiful venue it was. I'm so glad we chose the Courthouse for our wedding!

I'm so glad we chose the Old Courthouse on the Square! The theme for our wedding was "All Things Atlanta" so it was just perfect that we got married in an Atlanta landmark! Stacy was very responsive and professional. The venue is so elegant and looks amazing at night with uplighting. My only suggestion to any future bride is to hire a preferred vendor from their list. Save yourself the hassle, these caterers are "preferred" for a reason! We ended up using Bold American and wow is really all I can say!!!

We knew we wanted to get married near our house and since we first met in Decatur, and had our first date in Decatur, and live in Decatur we KNEW just the place. To be honest after living here for 27 years, I never had actually been inside the Old Decatur Court House. It is such a beautiful venue. You do not need to bring in much decor because the venue itself has so much to offer. We worked with Stacy and she was so sweet and wonderful. She let us bring in our items that Friday morning so that was one less stress we had to deal with Saturday! They provided about 10 caterers we could pick from. We could bring in anything we wanted. We had 14 round tables (tables and chairs provided by ODC). We had a band and a DJ plus a bar and a photo booth upstairs. We had our cocktail hour downstairs with a band and bar downstairs. However our dancing floor was a little small but that didn’t stop people! We took pictures before around the square and had sparklers after. We were not disappointed with anything by Old Decatur Courthouse and we would recommend it to everyone!

We had our wedding reception at the Old courthouse on the Square on October 5, 2012. This venue is so unique! It is so beautiful. The marble floors and walls with the windows bring such an elegant and different feel compared to other normal ballrooms. We received so many compliments on just how beautiful the venue was! It is easy to get to and right in the heart of beautiful historic downtown Decatur. Stacy was so easy to work with and was always helping out with any questions we had. It is very affordable and unique! If you are looking for something beyond the typical ballroom, I suggest you check this venue out! It is so perfect!

    The DeKalb History Center's reply:

Thanks for the nice review Roxy! You were a pleasure to work with and I'm glad your wedding was everything you envisioned. Wishing y'all many years of joy & happiness!

We looked at several venues before visiting the Courthouse. There was one that we really liked, but was way out of the budget that we had set for ourselves. Once we came across the Courthouse online, we liked what we saw. When we went to visit, the Courthouse was just like the pictures online. We loved the arches and the grey and white marble, especially since our colors were grey and yellow. We actually loved the Courthouse more than the venue that we had originally liked! The price for what you get is also a plus (rental of the building for 8 hours, chairs, and tables). We worked with Stacey, and she was very helpful from the first day we visited up until days after the wedding. Overall, the Courthouse is a beautiful venue, and we are more than happy that we decided to have our wedding here.

Leslie at the Old Courthouse on the Square was wonderful from day one. My husband and I booked the Square that same day after the services we received from Leslie. She was attentive and addressed any concerns we had following that day.

The venue was absolutely breathtaking! If anyone is looking for a place that offers elegance and a beautiful backdrop to your photos, then this is the place. My photographer went crazy with pictures because he was so in love with the architecture, lol.

This was definitely one of the best decisions my husband and I made throughout the wedding planning process.

5 stars for the Old Courthouse on the Square! We just held our wedding there a couple of weeks ago, and we had about 125 guests. We held both our ceremony and our reception in the ballroom, and the cocktail hour in the lobby area. Everyone complimented the space, the location, and the ambiance. This place is gorgeous, and the staff is super easy to work with and are very accommodating. While the price might seem a bit pricey for a Saturday evening, I assure you that it's worth every penny. We couldn't have asked for a better venue, and the Old Courthouse on the Square lived up to our every expectation. Loved it, and can't wait to see our pictures! That marble ballroom is STUNNING!!

This is the best, most unique and undiscovered venue in the metro area in my opinion. It is gorgeous, and you have many catering companies to choose from and can bring your own alcohol. Leslie, the contact person, was very helpful and allowed us in early to the bridal suite. I am so happy I chose this place to get married; it was beautiful and affordable .

We got married here on May 2, 2010. We picked a Sunday because the price was 1/2 the cost than if we had it on Saturday. Leslie is the contact person and she is always very prompt in responding to emails or phone calls. She even allowed us to access the facility early that day to get things set up. All of our guest loved the venue and thought it was gorgeous. I was very pleased with our choice.

I got married at the Old Courthouse on the Square on 1.16.2010 and I cannot say enough good things about it. Leslie (the contact) is very responsive and flexible throughout the entire planning process. Our guests continue to comment that it was one of the "coolest venues" they've ever seen. We had our ceremony in the ballroom, then guests went downstairs into the lobby for cocktail hour, and returned to the ballroom after the caterers flipped the room. We had about 110 guests and a seated dinner and there was PLENTY of room for a huge dance floor! Half of our guests came from out of town and the Old Courthouse on the Square is the perfect venue, as it is convenient (walking distance) to MARTA, the Holiday Inn, and the restaurants/bars in the Decatur Square. I highly recommend this venue.

Leslie could not have been easier to work with! My wedding was late on Saturday--so late that the reception started even later and she extended the courthouse hours without charging us for the extra time. She also was extremely flexible with setting up, we were able to get into the courthouse first thing Saturday morning even though my reception wasn't until 9pm...and she would have let us in Friday night if there hadn't been a function scheduled.

Not to mention the venue is gorgeous! All of the guests were so impressed by the courtroom upstairs--it is truly a unique space and I couldn't have imagined my wedding being anywhere else!

The Old Courthouse on the Square is a beautiful wedding venue- I could not be happier with our decision to get married there! We started planning our Atlanta wedding from Pittsburgh, so we booked the courthouse without even seeing it first, but it worked out perfectly. If you're looking to get married during the spring, book as early as you can because Saturdays fill up quickly! 90% of our guests came in from out of town, so Decatur was the perfect destination for them to spend the weekend with the abundance of shops and restaurants in walking distance. Our wedding was in the late afternoon in May, so the light streaming into the marble courtroom was just stunning for the ceremony. Cocktails were served in the lobby while our caterer set up the courtroom for the reception. Having the entire wedding in one location was very convenient for everyone involved. Our guests have not stopped complimenting the venue and how gorgeous is was for a wedding- it doesn't take much decorating to compliment the already stunning space. One thing to note, since it's a historic building with one small elevator, loading and setting up takes a lot of time, so you may need to pay for extra rental time if you're having your entire event there. The included 8 hours was not enough for us. But that doesn't change the fact that space is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone!!

My husband and I are soooo happy that we chose to get married at the Old Courthouse on the Square. We both love history and historic buildings which can be hard to come by in Atlanta. The minute we stepped into the Courthouse we loved it and its historic character! The coordinator, Stacey, was wonderful to deal with. She responded to emails and phone calls promptly and worked with me and my vendors to make sure that everything happened the way it needed to be. She also had helpful suggestions when it came to the preferred cater list. It was easy coordinating the rehearsal time and also we were able to drop things off the day before the wedding to make the day of the wedding even easier. Another huge bonus was that we were able to bring in our own alcohol which saved us a ton of money! The photos around the courthouse turned out beautiful and the venue itself was gorgeous during the daylight ceremony and the nighttime reception. Our only very minor complaints were that the bridal suite wasn't very attractive (not a big deal, we took the getting ready photos at our hotel) and it was a bit hot during the cocktail hour and reception which wasn't terrible surprising as it's a historic venue and the AC was added. We had our wedding on a Friday evening which I recommend because it saved money and every vendor we wanted was available even though we planned our wedding in less than 7 months. We whole heartedly recommend this facility.

Beautiful venue! Friendly staff! Great list of suggested caterers. You can bring in your own caterer for a small fee, and you can bring in your own alcohol (as long as you hire a cop). Many of my guest stated that they enjoyed the traditional feel with a modern twist! It was a beautiful day! Great places for photos located around the venue.
So very happy this was the site of our wedding!

    A Perfect and Inexpensive Venue

We discovered the Historic Dekalb Courthouse while feeling overwhelmed about choosing the right venue, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision! This venue perfectly matched our vision and exceeded our expectations. When beautifully decorated, the space is absolutely stunning! Mallory provided invaluable guidance throughout the wedding planning process. She even wiggled in time for us to come to re-view the space, given we obtained our decor person post facto of booking the venue. The pricing is very reasonable, and it includes chairs and tables, which is a great bonus. If you're considering the chiavari gold chairs, they're an extra cost, but definitely worth it! While it’s recommended to use their preferred vendors to avoid extra fees, the vendor we chose was fantastic and knew exactly how to work with the venue. Overall, we highly recommend the Historic Dekalb Courthouse—it's a beautiful location with countless photo opportunities! A solid 10/10!

Thank you so much for the kind review! I'm so pleased you guys enjoyed your time here. Please let me know if you need anything in the future. Best wishes - Mallory

Definitely Got My Bang For My Buck !

Such a great venue for a great budget, we did our wedding on a Sunday so that brought the price down immensely. Mallory, the coordinator of the space was very efficient and answered all of your questions in a timely manner. Customer Service centric.

    Pro:
*Can do just about anything in the space from cold sparks, to fog, to even drone footage inside.
*You can have the space for a long time and they will allow you to keep the space past midnight.
*Bring your own bottles and catering (if they have insurance)
*Spacious bridal suite. Cool vibes for the groomsmen.

    Con:
*Because the space is a blank canvas, you are responsible for everything! Even the trash cans if your catering team doesn’t have them. It was a new rule added after we booked, that was sort’ve annoying.

*Ugly walk up (if you’re extra like me you will prolly need to add a wow factor)
    * I closed the back entrance off because its open to the public and bystanders are around that could walk into your event.
*One elevator for vendors. It slowed down the process.

Other than that! It was legit a Diamond in the rough. Deff worth the money and so happy I found them. This venue brought my “New York City Girl”meets “Haitian Caribbean Tropics” to life!

    The DeKalb History Center's reply:

OMG those pictures are FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. I'm so glad we could be a part of your special day. You guys looked amazing and did such an great job dressing the space. Looking back I see that your event was not catered by one of our preferred caterers, which can make things a bit more complicated on the back end. Usually clients pick one of our preferred caterers who take care of all the setup, breakdown, cleanup (including trash), etc. I apologize that your off-list caterer did not supply the same level of service, but I'm so pleased you were able to have the wedding of your dreams and stay within your budget. Great job, congrats, and best wishes! - Mallory

Beautiful venue in downtown Decatur! It was the perfect size for our 150 guests which I was very worried about, but everything turned out great. I loved how all my flowers and decor fit perfectly in the courthouse. It was like a fairy tale. The best part about this venue is that you can purchase your own alcohol, which saved us sooo much money. Mallory was great to work with and she answered all my emails in a very timely fashion. I'm very happy we chose this venue for our wedding.

We got married at the Old Courthouse on the Square (aka DeKalb History Center) last weekend and I seriously do not think we could have found a more perfect venue. Most of our guests were coming in from out of town, and they all raved about the convenience of being able to walk to/from MARTA, the Courtyard Marriott, and all of the restaurants around Decatur Square. Also, this is a perfect venue if you want to rent the space and then handle all of the other planning/vendors on your own. This let us make the wedding exactly how we wanted, not to mention the cost-saving aspect of being able to purchase our own alcohol, which saved us thousands! The only reason I scored a 4/5 for flexibility was because it was a bit difficult to schedule times to come by, since they are only open during normal business hours when both my husband and I always work. However, they let us come by once on a Sunday when they had an event going on which was super nice of them to do. All in all, I could not be a bigger fan of the venue and am so glad we found it!

We absolutely loved this space as soon as we saw it. It's called The Old Decatur Courthouse or Dekalb History Center - thought a historical landmark would be fun! Plus - downtown Decatur is so much fun. Worked with Stacey R. and she is so nice, so flexible and pretty easy to get in touch with. She let us drop off our bar/beverages/decor etc on Friday afternoon for a Saturday wedding - which was great b/c we didn't have to even think about it Saturday. The space is pretty large (we had 150 ppl. but it could have held more) and did the cocktail hour downstairs and the reception upstairs in the main Courtroom - which is huge (all white marble - so pretty). Pretty much a blank slate, we created the exact look we wanted! So happy with our choice.

The Courthouse was AMAZING!!! The place is absolutely beautiful and a great place for having a wedding. We had a lot of out of town guest, so it was perfect location for them- easy to get to from airport, tons of shopping and dining in the square, and only one block away from the hotel.

The staff and Stacy were great and very responsive. It did get a little warm on the dance floor at the end of the night, but the maintenance guy was on staff to kick up the AC.

Great for weddings of 130 or less. It was a little tight on the dance floor with 132 guest and 16 tables. We put the buffet in the adjacent room, so it was great to have the food out of the way. Soiree, one of their preferred vendors, was the caterer and did an AMAZING job. They far exceeded my expectation in food quality and service! Also, they let you bring your own alcoholic beverages, which saved a TON of money.

Overall an amazing location, I would highly recommend.

It was a beautiful ceremony at a beautiful venue. Was good budget-wise, and it's nice that you are allowed to bring in your own alcohol and caterer, although it's an extra $1000 if you don't choose on the their preferred. I did, (Soiree) and they were wonderful as well. Stacey was the point person, and she was very helpful and responsive throughout the process. My only complaint would be lack of flexibility when I wanted to get in a little early to get ready with my mom and sisters in the Bridal Suite. I had read reviews where other brides were allowed to do this, and I wasn't. The florist and lighting vendor also wanted to get in a little early have a little more setup time, and even though my wedding planner took it all the way to the top in terms of working with us, they were incredibly strict on the 'rules' which was a bummer, since all the other vendors were so accommodating and understanding. Parking was also very tricky the day of, even though I was told parking garages were plentiful (they were) and easy to get to (they were NOT.) Overall, I'm happy I chose the venue -- it was a beautiful wedding.

I LOVED this venue!!! This building is gorgeous and all my guests said it was the most beautiful space they had ever seen for a wedding. Our photographer was able to highlight the classic architecture and our caterer was able to turn the space into the glamorous party that I dreamed. The staff was all very helpful and downtown Decatur had some great spots for unique pictures. I would highly recommend the Old Courthouse!

This venue was perfect. I fell in love the second I stepped in and Leslie was very helpful through the process of planning. I did find that the preferred catering list was difficult to find someone within our price range, so we chose what seemed to be affordable and the people were nice, in the beginning. The lack of professionalism from the caterer is why this review isn't a 5.0. I loved the venue and Leslie was great! The gentleman that was the person to be present throughout the event wasn't very flexible or helpful which also contributes to why the rating isn't a 5.0. Hopefully they'll expand their preferred catering list because this place is amazing!

The courthouse was amazing! We live in Los Angeles and planned a wedding in Georgia in 3 months. I called 65 venues in 1 week and this was at the top of our list and available, Thursday evening between Christmas and NYE, AND in our price range. Seriously consider them for a weekday event. My dad even renovated the exterior of the building in the 90's so that makes it a little extra special in my book.

Mallory communicated great. I'd send her one email with 8 questions and get the answers no problem. We didn't see the venue until 2 days before our wedding but its just as beautiful as pictured. We had the ceremony and reception (80 guest) in the main room upstairs. The chairs for the ceremony and tables for the reception were all set up before the ceremony began and it meant that we didn't have to flip the room during a cocktail hour which was great!

One draw back was we had garland and a banner to hang but the ladder was no where to be found even though when I asked they did say there was one. The groomsmen got creative and stood on a high top to hang the garland but we had to scrap the banner because we just couldn't reach the column. We set the buffet up in the room across from the main room upstairs and it worked great! The bar fits well in a window nook. We had plenty of room and everyone kept remarking how beautiful the building was. You don't need many decorations with a place like this! We are so happy we got married in a courthouse that had some history and style.

I had the reception only here and I love the history of the location and the room with the windows for an evening reception - it was gorgeous! The folks there are easy to work with and generally accessible by email.

The venue was gorgeous! I love the 2 levels for cocktail hour and then for dinner. The day went so smoothly with everything there space-wise. They were always quick to respond to questions and very friendly. I did have a couple of issues from an information standpoint that bothered me throughout the process that were just withheld. #1 They prefer for you to choose one of their preferred caterers and it saves you money on the venue fee, so we did. Then they removed our caterer from the preferred list because they closed without telling customers, but the courthouse didn't send out any notifications even though I had submitted I was using that company that was no longer preferred. #2 the week before the wedding their elevator broke and I only found out because one of my vendors let it slip. I feel this is a disability issue they should have called me with immediately. Our elderly people had some issues, and I couldn't sneak up to see the upstairs before everyone else. #3 the wine festival got rescheduled as well to my wedding weekend, but again I wasn't told and they tried to keep me from knowing. This was a huge issue the day of the wedding because there was no parking accommodation for my family or the photographer who had to move all his equipment from the hotel by using the groomsmen as we were trying to do photos between the wedding which had been at a church and reception outside. It was very frustrating because we lost time and got off schedule with photos and just stood around waiting. I do realize some of these were just bad coincidences, and I love the venue, but I just wish more information was given out to brides instead of keeping them in the dark. I definitely recommend because of the beauty and the historical building, but I would just really check in with scheduling around the building and just to touch base as you get closer.

    The DeKalb History Center's reply:

The Old Courthouse on the Square tries our absolute very best to inform our clients of developments related to issues effecting their events as best and as soon as we possibly can. We never want to give the impression we keep our clients in the dark on important issues on purpose. Many events are scheduled well in advance and there are things that arise beyond the DeKalb History Center's control. We work tirelessly with the City of Decatur and DeKalb County to troubleshot issues related to scheduling and facilities maintenance. The Old Courthouse on the Square had no prior knowledge of this Preferred Caterer going out of business and closing suddenly until after hearing so from other clients. This catering company never responded to our calls or e-mails. When the Decatur Wine Fest was rescheduled in early Spring 2013, we immediately communicated to the wedding planner. We worked attentively with the planner and vendors on an alternate loading in plan for the venue due to this festival. When it was clear from DeKalb County that the elevator would not be fixed in time for this event, we immediately reached out to the planner and caterer. We stressed to DeKalb County our broken elevator posed serious challenges for disabled and elderly guests. Due to not having the elevator, we offered the caterer and other vendors additional time to load in and load out the day of the wedding. We also offered early drop off of items the day before. This particular wedding was a perfect storm of unfortunate occurrences. We are very sorry to hear that this Bride feels we withheld information from her intentionally. We appreciate the patience and kindness her and her family gave us in the process of planning this challenging event. It was an absolute pleasure working with them.

We had a wonderful wedding and reception at the Historic Dekalb Courthouse. We chose a Sunday to save a little money on the costs and were very pleased with the venue. The room upstairs was very spacious, we had more than enough room for 12 60" round tables (seating ten guests apiece), 1 48" sweetheart table, the cake display, a bar, DJ booth and a sizeable dance floor. Probably could have gone up to 15 table without any trouble or shrinking the dance floor too much. We set up our buffet line in the smaller room upstairs to allow the big room to be open. The staff was easy to work with and were able to schedule us for a rehearsal on Saturday even though there was a wedding going on later that day.

    The DeKalb History Center's reply:

Thank you for the review Audrey. We are so pleased we were able to be a part of your special day! Please let me know if you need anything in the future. Thanks again!

I wanted an old hollywood feel, so Old Courthouse on the Square turned out to be great for my budget. Stacey was always so pleasant and answered all my wedding planner's questions (I didn't have a clue most of the time) with an upbeat attitude I'm told. There were a lot of stipulations because it's a historic site, but most of them were okay. It was rough at first because of the preferred catering list, but I ended up just paying the extra $1,000 and having a non-preferred caterer. I know they worked hard because the kitchen is so small, but they were fabulous.

My only real complaint is that on my wedding day there was no air. It was all hot and sweaty trying to get ready in my suite. The building attendant had to cut on a big fan in the reception which was blowing my drapery. My cake melted and fell over half way through dinner. We were glad we already cut it, but the baker was going crazy trying to make sure it didn't melt too bad before our pictures. We made the best of things, but when you get married you want things to be perfect. I would have thought they would have made sure the air was fixed when they rented the place out. Of course, it was chilly outside and our pictures were cut short. I guess was just the bit of irony we'll remember and laugh about in years to come. We still had a great time.

Our wedding reception was held here and it was absolutely beautiful. The marble reception area was to die for and perfectly fit our 1920s themed wedding.

Pros: It's historical and beautiful, it's priced very competitively, you can bring in caterers that are not on the preferred catering list (for an extra deposit), you can bring your own liquor (seriously that in itself is sooooo rare and saves sooooo much money), there's a lot of different tables in the inventory. There's just a lot of personalization that can be done here for the bride that has a very specific vision and likes planning all the details instead of using a venue that's got a package deal that doesn't permit a lot of changes.

Cons: Mallory Donaldson (event coordinator), although very responsive, she can be kind of strange to work with. She can be very stoic at times and not very accommodating. I am not saying that she is rude or unprofessional because she is neither of those things, and I don't think she does this on purpose, but I'm not sure her personality fits the happy occasion of a wedding (not upbeat or energetic at all). If you want chivari chairs or do not want to use the folding white chairs provided, you will need to rent outside chairs which can be pricey.

We recently got married at the Old Courthouse on the Square in Decatur Georgia. We chose the Courthouse because of the location and size of the ballroom. Decatur is a great area with hotels and restaurants very close by. The Ballroom itself is gorgeous white marble, which provides a blank canvas for planning, which is great. The venue does not provide a planner, they simply answer questions about rules and inventory, so I would recommend hiring a day of planner at least. While the Ballroom and Lobby areas are very nice, the other rooms are not as nice/functional, including the bridal suite. It serves as a nice space to hide members of the bridal party prior to the ceremony, but is not great for getting ready, etc. Overall we were happy with the venue, however we did need to pay an additional $1,000 to use a caterer not on the approved list, even though that caterer had done events at the Courthouse previously.

I really loved our venue and how the wedding turned out! I do think that there could be a bit more professionalism, especially in email correspondence, and that the venue could be a little more helpful with things like walkthroughs and rehearsals, but overall I loved the look of the space and our wedding turned out beautifully. I'd do it again.

I loved the interior of this place and is why we chose it! It was just what I was looking for, it was well in line with my vision. However, there was a lack of appreciation and enthusiasm I felt from the representative at the courthouse. It could have made for a much more pleasant experience but I was definitely delighted with the place and that's what mattered to me most!

    Romantic Fall Wedding

I initially chose those venue because the price was affordable and you are able to bring in pretty much any vendor you would like. The venue also allows you to provide your own alcohol which saved us money on catering. The blank slate, and the marble allows you to make this as elegant or simple as you would like. The venue fit our 100 guests perfectly. They also provide tables and chairs. The only downside is the lack of flexibility to access the venue. We had a Friday rental from 4-12, which made our schedule for the day very tight. Just make sure your vendors are familiar with the venue and are able to move quickly and efficiently to not cut into your rental. Overall beautiful venue.

I just knew that my 50 out of town guests would love the convenience of the Marriott Downtown Emory (across the street and walking distance) as well as the Marta access. Even though many would have to fly in, no one would need to rent a car! I mean, The Decatur Square has everything!

When viewing the location I loved the Marble Ballroom, but I did see some water damage on the ceilings etc... that were visible in daylight. The coordinator was very nice and gave us a tour, but the basement "dungeon" Bridal room was frightening. I mean, this was a courthouse, so I guess that was a jail cell...

I didn't know what to do, and then it hit me! Get a room at the Marriott, get ready there, and walk over!

That seemed great...I did all my research and looking into any and every possible event that could ruin my event date...festivals, school events, even Metro Atlanta events that could increase hotel and airfare costs! My date looked great! I was able to book my date over a year ahead and move onto other plans.

I contacted the Marriott and received a proposal to block rooms....after not hearing back from them to find out what to do next, I reached back out about a month later. At this point they told me no rooms could be booked because Emory and Agnes Scott have set that weekend as their commencement ceremonies. I was told it would be hard to find ANY hotels near Decatur that weekend.

Now I know that this couldn't have been avoided, I chose my date before the colleges did, but if you are looking to book this event space because of the convenience...be wary... booking too early could leave time for other events to pop up and ruin your day!

Most importantly: CONTACT EMORY AND AGNES SCOTT! If they take over the hotels for any big event, you will not be able to find accommodations in the area!
