Great experience from start to finish. Nancy, who coordinates the hall now, was wonderful. We truly felt more like family than clients. I think this is the best kept secret in banquet halls in the Joliet area! Nancy was flexible, responsive, attentive and helped us stay in budget. After comparing prices with other halls, we quickly realized that because St. George's includes tax and tip it is the best value. We had about 190 people in the upper hall. The food was family style and very good. They have a great big open bar area. Lines were short because we had three bartenders. Yes, the beer bottles were the small ones, but no one minded. The standard bar package was pretty nice, but they also have a "top shelf" with blended drinks package. We were able to come in and decorate the morning before, which was great. We brought in our own sweets for the sweets table and they set it up beautifully. At the end of the night, they boxed up the left over sweets (we bought 100 foam clamshell containers at GFS for $8 and hid under the table till the end of the night) and helped us pass them out. The hall itself is a bit older, and there are no fancy staircases or columns etc. But with decorations the hall was so pretty, and our guests said it was the best reception they'd been to in years.

I cannot say enough good things about St. George's and their staff. The coordinator, Darlene, was an angel from start to finish. She was so easy to get ahold of whenever I had questions and honestly, made me feel not like a customer but more like family. I found their prices to be well below a lot of banquet halls in the area and one of the big selling points for me was that the tax and gratuity was already included in their prices. We actually saved money by going with plated dinners over family style (We are not fans of buffett and enjoy the elegance of the plated dinner) The food was excellent, we were able to bring in our own decorations but they do provide them (including chair covers for a fee) if you would like to use theirs instead. They were very accomodating with letting us set-up ahead of time. There is ample parking for your guests and the hall decor is neutral, yet still classy. We used the upstairs banquet hall which is the biggest and has a large separate bar area. They also have another smaller hall in the lower level for smaller weddings/gatherings. I would definitely recommend St. George's and their staff to anyone who is looking to have an elegant wedding, with great food and great service, on a budget. Isn't that what we all really want? :-)

The hall looks very nice. The priced were very resonable. The food was very good. My only complaint is that dinner took way to long and we didn't have our champagne on the head tably to toast with. We had 235 guests at our wedding. We did family style instead of the buffet. We were told family style would be a lot faster. It took over 2 hours for people to be served and finish dinner. At least the food tasted good. Like home cooking. I would recommend this hall to a friend if they had a wedding size under 175 people.

As the other reviews have said, the Event Coordinator, Darlene, at St. George's is amazing! She is the kind of person I know most brides are wishing and hoping for when planning such an important event. She always had time to answer my questions or to address my concerns--even those "I'm freaking out" ones. :) They have package plans but after explaining that we did not want the full bar package (which included hard alcohol) and that we didn't need two meat choices (honestly, I told her I didn't care if the guests ate pizza--we just wanted to have as many people there as we could!), she created a package just for us--with a price/head that was within our budget. I cannot say enough good things about Darlene and how helpful she was in the planning process. The negative, if any, is there were some things about the room set-up we didn't like such as them leaving tables set-up even if we weren't having enough guest to fill them and not taking the head-table which would be on the dance floor down after dinner.
    The Event....
Everything went according to plan as far as the Reception venue went. Everything looked lovely. We were able to get in the day before and decorate instead of rushing to do it the day of--making for a much more relaxed bride and groom.
Even though we knew this ahead of time, found out at the 2 week prior meeting, all of the beer was served in mini 8 oz bottles which looked super tacky but the bar tenders were good at handing out several at a time.
I was told the servers would be wearing black pants and white dress shirts--saw that many of them were wearing t-shirts...something I'm sure nobody else noticed but me.
People raved about the food which we had served buffet style including Pork loin, pasta, mashed potatoes, salad and bread. All in all everything went great.

St. George's was generally a great venue. The value was exceptional, but the service was lacking at times. They were very accomodating when it came to times and whatnot, but not when it came to what we wanted layout-wise. We also had some complaints about the bartender. They also didn't offer a choice in cake flavors like they were supposed to. But it's such a deal it's hard to complain. Come prepared with decorations though if using the basement room, it needs it!
