We hired Russ for his DJ services at our recent wedding. From the start, he was enthusiastic and so helpful in helping us figure out exactly how we wanted our wedding day to flow. We utilized his app that allowed us to have as much or as little input into our song selections. Day of, Russ had an awesome DJ booth set up in each of our locations and he helped make the evening flow so smoothly. The dance floor energy at our reception was fantastic, and Russ kept it catered to exactly what we wanted! He even sourced a wonderful saxophonist for us just a few months before, which added a unique and fun element to the day. We would highly recommend him and his team for your wedding or DJ needs! -

Destination wedding experts
Morgan and Russ,
These two are some of the highest level entertainment and photography providers that are in the game. I was beyond thrilled prior to our wedding to have them as one of our vendors, and even more overwhelmed with joy afterwards.
We hired Morgan to do our destination wedding photos. Not only did she scout out locations for us (which is an above and beyond service if you ask me) but she also helped us with the creative vision to bring out my wife’s favorite things into a reality.
We had a very non-traditional wedding in a sense that Russ was performing a private event that we attended and his show gave me goosebumps. Our entire wedding week was an experience, not just an event and I’ll cherish it for years to come.
I want to add two other details to my review. This review is coming from another wedding vendor himself and I definitely understand what top level service is. I also what to add that we haven’t even gotten back our photos yet, but I am beyond confident that I’ll be reliving the day every time I look at them.
If you read this far and are wondering if you should invest in their expertise, please do not hesitate. In fact, on our ride home I opened a DJ quarterly magazine to find both Russ and Morgan featured in the issue which says everything you need to know.

We got married this past weekend and Russ was amazing! He did a great job of helping us organize the flow of the night in advance and he did a great job of directing folks throughout the night. Once we got to the dance party no one left the dance floor! He did a great job of incorporating our playlist and mixing in other songs. We had the best time!!!! -

I cannot stress enough how absolutely incredible Russ was as the DJ for our wedding. From the moment we began planning, Russ was involved every step of the way, demonstrating a level of understanding of the logistics that left us in awe. He didn't just show up to play music; he truly comprehended the intricacies of what makes a wedding day seamless.
Russ's ability to anticipate our needs was astounding. He asked all the right questions, guiding us effortlessly through song choices we hadn't even considered. His attention to detail ensured that every moment had the perfect soundtrack, elevating the atmosphere to magical heights.
As an MC, Russ brought a personalized touch that made the night feel like it was curated just for us. There wasn't a single dull moment; he expertly navigated transitions, keeping the energy high and the dance floor packed. His professionalism was unmatched, always attuned to the room and ensuring that the vibe remained cohesive with the overall design of the wedding.
And let's talk about his music mixes – pure genius! Russ's creativity and skill shone through in every live mix, delivering a blend of tracks that had everyone grooving all night long. I was so blown away that I couldn't resist asking him for his mix afterward – I could listen to him spin for hours on end!

Not only did he arrive promptly at the beginning of the day and clean up on time, but he also went above and beyond to assist our entire wedding team. As a planner, having someone like Russ on board was a dream come true. He jumped in without hesitation, lending a hand to ensure that everything wrapped up smoothly for everyone involved.

Russ and Morgan are the best couple to work with! They were always super responsive and easy to work with leading up to the wedding. The ask all the right questions, even things I wouldn’t have thought of. They were the reason our wedding flowed so smoothly and everyone was raving about them. The music choices were great and they really read the room and made it all work out. I would pick them to dj for any occasion. They are worth every penny.

Fun, professional - book him now!
DJ Russ helped make our wedding day absolutely perfect! From the beginning, Russ listened to what we wanted and worked with us to make our vision come together, even after we had to postpone our wedding celebration for an entire year. We are so grateful for Russ’ understanding and flexibility during the COVID-19 pandemic. Powell Events has an excellent questionnaire to ensure that your day is precisely what you envision. When our day finally arrived, Russ coordinated with our officiant and other vendors to make sure our ceremony and reception went smoothly, kept us on schedule, and then helped us throw the ultimate dance party! Russ was able to loop both our processional and recessional songs, making our ceremony perfect, fun, and what dreams are made of! He even took great photos and let us party in booth! We could not be happier with Russ and Powell Events and you should definitely use them for your next event! -

Fun and professional. From start to finish Russ and Morgan were attentive to every detail. Everything was very well organized, and it took all the pressure off us to make sure we were on schedule and everything went off smoothly. We hired Russ for our daughter's wedding on June 27, 2020. It was touch & go for some time with this covid stuff going on, and wondering whether we were even going to be able to have a wedding until about one month before. And in addition to that, we live in Tennessee, the bride and groom lives in Colorado, and the wedding was in Utah! Needless to say, it was a time full of uncertainties. Luckily, Russ stayed in touch with us continuously through the whole process! Then when my husband and I were flying out from Memphis International to Salt Lake City, our flight was canceled at 5 a.m.! We had to rent a car and drive for 27 hours straight, without sleeping, to get to the venue in time for the rehearsal. Russ was so kind to continue to stay in contact with us to see if there was anything we needed and that he was there for us. This meant a lot! We had never had a vendor that was so willing to go over and above the call of duty to make sure that our special day went off without a hitch! The wedding was beautiful, and Russ took it over and my husband and I had time to enjoy the event with our guests, not having to worry about anything! I cannot recommend Russ enough! He is a Class Act! Thank you so much Russ for all you do! We love ya!! -

My husband and I were married on 08/31/2019. Both of us are introverted people, and don’t dance much. We had no clue where to start when it came to looking for a DJ. Thankfully our venue had some suggestions and a few emails/phone calls later and we were in contact with Squawkbox. Russ asked us such great questions, regarding what we were looking for so he could provide us with exactly what we wanted. We were pleasantly surprised when Russ and his wife invited us over to their place for dinner, and to go over our wedding music. We were sent a few questions to fill out regarding what music we wanted for just about every little wedding day music thing you can think of. Which was great, because we didn’t have to sit down and think of all the little moments that required music. They even gave fantastic suggestions for songs when we were stumped. For instance we couldn’t decide what to play for our ceremony exit, Russ played a few bars of a couple songs and worked with us to find the perfect one. Russ was unavailable to DJ for our wedding, but he assured us our DJ Josh would be fantastic. Russ couldn’t have been more wrong. Josh wasn’t fantastic, he was beyond fantastic. He was the best possible DJ we could have hired. Josh was professional, and so fun. He took what we talked about with Russ and did better than we could have ever imagined. For example, we did the shoe game, and after a few questions he asked our guests for questions. During our anniversary dance the last few couples left standing were asked to give us some marriage advice (it was so touching to hear from my husband’s granddad who’s been married for so many years tell us what works for his marriage). Josh even went beyond the job of a DJ. During dinner he helped to usher tables and spent time talking with our guests. Never did our reception dance feel like every other wedding, and guests who don’t typically dance got out on the dance floor, including my husband who swore he might dance for one or two songs. He ended up dancing the night away. Many of our guests kept saying how amazing our DJ was. We couldn’t have asked for a better DJ and recommend Squawkbox to anyone getting married in the Northern Utah area. -

We had Russ as the DJ for our wedding in July 2019 and couldn’t be happier with our experience. Long before the wedding he took a very personal approach, meeting with us in person multiple times to make sure he had us locked down as a couple. We provided music we liked as well as some no plays, and we discussed the vibe we were going for at our wedding. Russ even offered for my wife to record a message for her father, which he could splice into the song during their father-daughter dance. It ended up being such a nice touch that brought many at the event - including her father - to tears. Throughout the whole evening, Russ did a great job - from the ceremony to dinner, speeches, and especially dancing. Russ kept everyone happy, energized, and on the dance floor throughout the reception. We couldn’t have been more pleased with him as our DJ and would recommend him for any wedding or event.

Russ made the night amazing. He was there at the ceremony and the reception to help the guests. His planning beforehand was impeccable and he was always on top of things and helping us with our big day. We were on the fence about having a live band or DJ and Russ made us forget any thought about the live band because he was so interactive. He also was great with instructions and had such a great attitude and energy with our guests! 100% great pick! -

Let me add another 5-star review to Russ's already glowing record! Absolutely, the BEST DJ you will find. Having a great DJ for our wedding was really important to my fiance and me, so we interviewed quite a few DJs, and Russ from Squawkbox Sound easily stood out - let me list 5 reasons why Russ will make your wedding day special and why I'm confident he is your best choice: 1) He is extremely professional, punctual, and thoughtful (he will meet with you before the wedding to go over all of the details, confirm a timeline, he will make all of the necessary announcements at your wedding in a warm and professional manner, etc. - our guests adored him!), 2) he is flexible and willing to make what may seem like a miracle actually happen (example: my mother-in-law doesn't speak any English, and we wanted to be sure she felt included during the ceremony, but we didn't want a translator whispering during the ceremony to be distracting to other guests; I asked Russ if he could hook the translator up with a headset - with a live feed from the ceremony - and a microphone to talk into, in another room, and if he could hook my mother-in-law up with earbuds so she could listen to the translator through a headset - he did it!! Because of Russ, my mother-in-law was able to fully experience her son getting married, laugh along with the other guests, etc. - it was perfect, and it wouldn't have happened without Russ), 3) Russ stays on top of the game - he is one of only 2 DJs I found in the SLC area who actually attends continuing education workshops around the country to continue to hone is professional skills (and his pricing was much more reasonable than the other DJ - he provides an excellent value without sacrificing anything you'd want in a DJ), 4) Russ is FUN - he plays good music, he is responsive and knows when to change music up if it's not working for the crowd, and he knows how to mix songs, and lastly, 5) ***he will help you handle emergencies***. This was absolutely critical at our wedding - we had a quite negative experience with our wedding coordinator (who was absent for virtually the entire cocktail hour and reception) - I can't even count the number of occasions in which Russ stepped in and really did the full-time job of two people. He truly was our Superman of the night. When the wedding timeline got off track, Russ stepped in and helped my groom and me figure out quickly what we could cut so we could get things back on track, Russ was the one who reminded us to stop and kiss each other halfway out during the send-off (it will make for great pictures and our video, but I would have never thought of that if it wasn't for him!), and Russ even made the last few moments of our wedding extra special by sending everyone outside to prepare for the send-off while giving us an opportunity to have one last private dance together with one of our favorite songs - it was a beautiful, intimate moment for my husband and me, and something we won't ever forget.
The best test of whether or not someone is happy with their DJ is whether or not they would recommend them to a friend - I was so pleased with Russ that I recommended him to my friend, who also got married this summer, and her wedding was equally exceptional - Russ is consistent.
Best of all? He's got a caring heart, and it's clear to see he loves his job. I can't stress how important that is in a DJ - if your DJ is having fun, your guests will be too. He even follows up with my husband and me over text messages to check in and see how we're liking married life! Most vendors forget the couples who hired them after the wedding is over - we are just another number to them; but Russ treats all of his brides and grooms like new friends. What more could you want in a DJ?
I am so very confident that you will not be disappointed with Russ at the helm. -

DJ Russ was so fun to work with. After an initial phone conversation we met him and his lovely wife to go over everything about how he works and his setup. Closer to our wedding date we finalized everything with a very detailed worksheet that covered literally everything you could think of and then more. Russ kept the reception moving smoothly and kept the party going! Even with a mild technical snafu right before our first dance Russ acted quickly and smartly to get things back on track, with the added time filling help of our wedding guest serenading us with an acapella version of "We Will Rock You". The evening went great, and we were very happy with Russ. -

We met with Russ multiple times prior to our wedding day. He is thorough, reliable, a complete pleasure to work with, personable, experienced, and did an incredible job at our wedding and reception. Our guests were thrilled with him! There were plenty of times where I needed suggestions and input from Russ, and he was more than willing to provide us with it. He was especially helpful to work with being my husband was deployed throughout most of the planning process. Russ made the entire experience as stress-free as possible, and gave me the peace of mind I needed through our grand exit on the big day. Michelle knows what it feels like to be a bride and she helped me out with a lot of great ideas on how to organize the songs/events. They are really down to earth, I love them to pieces. They are great to work with, very personable, and provide so many different options it will shock you how inexpensive they are priced. If you use anyone but Squawkbox you're paying too much and not getting enough. These guys know there stuff and will take care of you like it's their own wedding day. I highly recommend them. -

Pros of the experience:
-Russ did an amazing job at making sure the ceremony started exactly on time. He was the one who mad the timing happen for the ceremony.
-I really enjoyed his packet planner that he gave me to fill out that went over the timeline and music
-He was really responsive during the planning process
Cons of the experience:
-There was a closing song that we decided on, but he played a song I told him in the planning process not to play. To be far, we had decided on the song but I changed my mind about it and I thought I had made it clear. Anyways, I may have been too harsh about it. This was my only dissatisfaction from this vendor.
Overall, I would still recommend him to people who need an MC in this area. -
