Will capture the moments you really want to remember!
Hiring Spencer for our wedding and engagement photography was an absolute dream! He was able to capture our wedding day flawlessly. Looking back through our photos, we feel like we did on that day — Spencer’s eye is impeccable for the moments that people will want to remember most. So many emotions come flooding back to us looking at them, and we are SO thankful and just blown away by all the joy he was able to be present for and capture for us. He was a fly on the wall in the best way. Not only is he an awesome photographer, but he’s also just an all-around cool and kind person. It was such a joy to bring him along for the ride that was our wedding day. Working with Spencer was a breeze, communication was quick and straightforward, and it honestly was such a breath of fresh air amidst all the other wedding stresses. We can’t thank you enough, Spencer!! -

Hire this man
I’ll make it simple. Hire Spencer for your wedding day. As a wedding photographer myself, I had very high expectations for my wedding photos. Spencer went above and beyond my expectations. He does an amazing job capturing everything without impeding on the day itself. He’s constantly watching for quick but fleeting moments. When we got our photos back we were not only able to relive our day, but also able to relive so much of the day that we didn’t see. -

A dream come true!
Having Spencer capture the biggest day of our lives was the best decision we could have made. He was timely, professional, communicative, a great listener, and made us feel so comfortable throughout the entire process. He drove to Chicago to take our engagement photos, and we had SO much fun - the photos are proof! Our wedding photos were absolutely stunning, as well. Not only did he get those "must-have" shots that every couple dreams about, but he caught so many candid moments that allow us to relive our day in a really special way. On top of taking incredible photos, he was able to manage a lot of family/friend dynamics with patience and grace. It was a huge relief knowing we could trust the person behind the camera. Spencer is a true artist and we couldn't be happier with our photos! -

Spencer is an incredible photographer. Not only did he perfectly capture the essence of our wedding with all its candid moments, but he also was so flexible and is a wizard with color. Would highly recommend to anyone! We are so so pleased with the way our photos turned out. -

I highly recommend working with Spencer!! Following our initial outreach about his availability, he was prompt with follow up and provided a really thorough overview of his approach and scope of services. During negotiations he was candid, flexible, and took time to build a genuine and comfortble rapport with us. Heading into the day, I was supremely confident that he understood our needs and would honor our preferences.
One more note on the business side of things, then I’ll get to my feelings about his work. The ease of signing our contract, managing deadlines, and remitting payments through a single platform was exceptional. Spencer is extremely professional and has leveraged technology to keep things clear and streamlined.
Back to the photos...the depth of the photos is spectacular. As advertised, Spencer’s style is incredibly rich, photojournalistic, beautifully composed. We were married at a vineyard in September. He vividly captured our incredibly lush setting, our tremendous joy, and many small and now-treasured glimpses of those who joined us for this celebration.
My highest endorsement is this: when I look at our photos, I see what hoped I would see. Two elated, open-hearted, grateful individuals, wide-eyed and surround by love. I can feel the energy of the day each time I flip through our wedding photo site and I feel strongly that this is because the person who captured these images was truly present to the experience. -

Spencer was recommended to us by another photographer who raved about his unique eye, natural and organic shots, and his beautiful winter wedding photos. We hired Spencer for our engagement and wedding photos – and we cannot stop staring at the results!
Spencer immediately felt like a longtime friend, which put us at ease and made shooting everything from “fridge pics” to more intimate photos feel natural. He gave us direction when we needed it or asked for it, but otherwise just let us be – US!
On the day of the wedding our family members and friends kept telling us how amazing and kind our photographer was. He managed to get these phenomenal shots but I never remember him being on top of us. While we asked for some specific shots of us, we also wanted to make sure he captured our guests and the experience they had. We have photos of friends and family, laughing and crying that we will cherish forever.
Spencer is the photographer people dream of hiring! He captures the small moments that otherwise fly by, he becomes a part of your family, he’s honest and kind, and frankly even after your big day is over you’ll be looking for excuses to stay in-touch.

When I was planning our wedding, I initially hired a local New York photographer whom I thought would be a good fit. Photography was something very important to us, so I wanted to make sure I booked in advance. This photographer had great reviews, I liked her style, and other people referred her to me. Long story short, it turned out to be a very negative experience that left me in tears, and I was without a photographer 4 months before the wedding.
Then, we were lucky enough to find Spencer. When he heard our story, he responded right away and told us he was available to travel. I never thought that we would find someone within budget that we liked, less than 4 months before the wedding. Let me tell you, we don't just like Spencer, we love Spencer! His work is BEAUTIFUL, it speaks for itself, and he was exactly what we were looking for.
I was worried about the long distance, but he kept in contact with me regularly, unlike our local ex-photographer, cough cough. When we finally met, Spencer felt more like a friend than a stranger. My entire bridal party loved him. He was easy to work with, and made all of us comfortable. He's professional, and always willing to bounce ideas back and forth. He was very flexible, resourceful, and worked well under pressure. Our getting ready shots were in a hotel. Unfortunately, there weren't any scenic places outside to take first look and group shots. Spencer arrived early, scouted the area, and found beautiful locations within the hotel for all of those shots. He visualized the first look shots in a small hallway/corridor near the elevators with windows. I never would have thought to do the photos there- and everything came out perfect. He's a natural. He definitely has an eye for this stuff and he was open to all of our ideas. You can throw anything at him and he's willing to try it. I couldn't have been happier.
I like to believe that everything in this life happens for a reason, even the small stuff. After all that is said and done I would go through the headache of our first experience all over again, because it led us to Spencer! -

Unforgettable wedding photos!
Spencer Penfield Photography has exceeded our expectations thorough-out our engagement session, wedding photos & family portraits! He has a creative vision & precision for any location we picked. He has a great way of getting large groups excited for all the shots we had dreamed of for our wedding. We received all our photos in the promised deadline, and even got some sneak peaks while we were out of the country on our honeymoon! We highly recommend you choose him for any occasion - you won’t be disappointed! -

Brian Sent on 12/29/2017Working with Spencer was a great experience! Our wedding was outdoors at a vineyard/barn in the fall of this year, so the leaves were changing and the colors were beautiful. Spencer was able to capture pictures all of the fall colors, in all of the great spots that we had to shoot at. We were originally drawn to Spencer by his style of photography and how his previous wedding pictures had turned out and we couldn't be happier with our photos! Spencer shoots in a more journalistic style, where he captures whats going on like a fly on the wall, rather than your traditional wedding photographer, who sets up shots. So if you have specific shots you want, put a list together ahead of time. We truly love how they turned out and have gotten many compliments. Spencer was really easy to get a long with, which helped relieve some of the wedding day stress and made us more comfortable. He shot while we were getting ready, all the way through dancing, which was great. We put together a list of family photos we wanted and put one of our friends in charge of corralling everyone, which definitely helped speed up the taking of family photos. It was great working with Spencer and we loved our photos!

They don’t just capture the moment beautifully — they actually make you feel what it felt like to be there in that instant. As soon as we were engaged, I knew we wanted Spencer, a childhood friend of mine, to shoot our wedding. We booked him for engagement photos and for our wedding. The engagement shoot helped us get a feel for how photoshoots work, and helped him get a feel for our city. Spencer’s style makes his photos sing. Rather than rely on posed portraits or forced moments, his approach is to get to know the couple and showcase what is important to them. He told us to be our carefree and affectionate selves, and the result was images that are natural and candid and intimate. He brought out the best in us. Not just because we’re friends, either; he treats all his clients like friends. He fulfilled simple requests, like orchestrating big ol’ family photos, and much bigger ones, like stopping Saturday-afternoon traffic on the Clemente Bridge for bridal-party photos. He captured important, intimate moments without being intrusive. And now we have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of images to relive moments and memories from our wedding day.

Anna Sent on 12/26/2017We wanted our wedding day to be documented in art, not just pictures. We wanted an affordable photographer who "got" that we forbid getting-ready photos and accessory photos (although he does do that beautifully for other couples!), instead wanting artistic, long-shot, fly-on-the-wall documentation. Spencer achieved and blew our expectations out of the water, AND became a friend! We had one skype conversation months before the wedding, and we felt like Spencer totally understood and responded to our wishes. He was both un-intrusive and assertive when needed. He got the shots we wanted and shots we didn't know we wanted. The results came soon and the editing was impeccable. We would recommend him to ANYONE, ANYWHERE and are not only still enjoying our own wedding photos, but those of others he continues to post.

Remi Sent on 12/24/2017I’ve done several sessions with Spencer, but my wedding was more than a session- having your wedding photos done by Spencer is seriously a special experience. He was so helpful through scouting out a perfect spot tucked away in the woods, and quickly became a friend to us as a couple. Spencer is so personable, and truly gets to know you before taking your photos- he captured the wayi FELT on my wedding day, not just howi looked. Spencer was so awesome wheni was stressed out taking photos before the reception- he helped to calm down and feel comfortable in front of the camera, and also helped me stick to my timeline. Furthermore, Spencer’s photo style is completely unique, and unlike any other photos I’ve seen. My husband andi both loved working with Spencer and highly recommend him. 10/10 would choose him again and again!
