Terrific Wedding venue

We just had our Wedding at the Smith Barn and everything was amazing. Our ceremony was across the street at the Woodland Gardens which was picture perfect! Tammy was awesome, she always had time to talk and explained everything in fine detail. We even went with her vendor recommendations for caterer and DJ all coordinated with Tammy and the day of the wedding went off perfectly. For this reason I highly recommend the Smith Barn to anyone looking for a Wedding venue.

Get married here!!

Getting married at the Smith Barn was the best decision we made. Tammy is a rockstar. She knows that barn inside and out. She is honest, knowledgeable, friendly and runs a tight ship. The barn is absolutely gorgeous. Guests were raving about how unique and beautiful it is. Even in the rain we were married in front of the barn doors and with the twinkle lights on the beams it was the most romantic setting a bride could ask for. We had 175 people, which meant guests had to sit upstairs and they had a blast up there. As the bride and groom we went upstairs and watched everyone dancing and just took a moment to take it all in. If I could get married again I would 100% book the Smith Barn.

The best wedding venue ever!!!

If you're looking for a wedding venue, look no further!!! My husband and I got married at Smith Barn in November, 2021, and we highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend choosing Smith Barn for your special day!! Choosing Smith Barn was honestly the absolute best decision we could have ever made, and they made our wedding day absolutely perfect from start to finish! First off, the venue was STUNNING, and it truly fit our perfect, rustic farm wedding vision. The ceremony space is a beautiful garden, and the barn overlooks an apple orchard with amazing views. On our wedding day, we had the most beautiful sunset ever, and seeing the sunset over the apple orchard was incredible! Tammy and her team were the best of the best, and they were there for us every step of the way to ensure that we had the wedding day of our dreams!!! They were incredibly responsive, professional, hardworking, diligent, and helpful throughout the entire wedding planning process. Tammy was available at all times to answer any questions that we had, and she provided her expertise to us whenever we needed anything, which helped make the wedding planning process feel easy and seamless. On our wedding day, I felt SO relaxed, and I knew that I made the best decision ever!! Tammy and her team were incredibly organized, and they went through every single detail of what we wanted for our wedding day prior to the wedding, so I knew that our entire event would be perfect! Once I got to Smith Barn, Tammy and her team were SO organized, professional, kind, fun, and excited, and they seriously brought such an incredible energy to us and to our day! When I saw them, they immediately took away any nerves that I had because they were so personable and excited to share our day with us!!! Their passion and dedication to ensuring that we had the best, and most perfect day truly set them apart, and made our day so special to us! They made everything so beautiful, fun, easy, and seamless for us! The day ran perfectly from start to finish in every single way, and Tammy and her team truly went above and beyond to make sure it was everything that we could ever dream of! We honestly LOVED getting married at Smith Barn, and we had the most positive and amazing experience working with Tammy and her talented team! Perfect wedding

From start to finish Tammy and her team will make sure your day goes perfect. From my arrival to the venue (groom) Tammy made sure I didn't stress and that everything was going smoothly. The area was landscaped perfectly and all staff was friendly and prompt. If you're looking for a barn wedding look no further. The sunset over the apple orchard gives perfect picture moments. Everything we hoped for and more

After checking out 4-5 other venues in the Greater Boston area, we found ourselves at Smith Barn on a cold day in January. Even in the dead of winter, the warmth radiating from both Tammy Messina (venue coordinator) and the space itself was undeniable - we knew we had found our wedding venue. From that day all the way up until our wedding, we couldn't have asked for a better planning/wedding day experience. We ended up having to postpone our wedding due to COVID-19, and while we were bummed out, Tammy worked with us to find a new date immediately and made everything as stress-free as possible throughout the entire planning process. As for our wedding day - it was truly perfect. Smith Barn and its grounds provided such a beautiful backdrop for our pictures, ceremony, reception and dancing - everything had a naturally rustic charm that a lot of venues strive for but have a hard time authentically bringing to life. Despite temperatures hovering around a 90-95ºF for most of the evening, there was plenty of shade to be found outdoors, and the AC made the barn super comfortable all night long. One of the best day-of perks of the venue though is Tammy. She knows the place like the back of her hand and was there to firmly but kindly push things along from the moment we arrived until the last Uber left the property (sorry for keeping you late, Tammy!) We are so happy that we chose Smith Barn to celebrate our special day, and highly recommend it to any couples looking for wedding venues in the Greater Boston area!

Just book it!

If you're considering Smith Barn as your venue, just do it! The venue itself is beautiful, and the string lights make it feel so intimate and magical. The farm also makes for a beautiful photo backdrop. The whole night (and even days/weeks afterwards) people kept commenting on how beautiful and warm the barn felt.

Tammy Messina is absolutely amazing at her job as coordinator. Everytime I had a question I would text her call her and she would call me back within minutes. She is so friendly, accommodating, and knows her stuff!

One of a kind!

If you are thinking about a rustic barn wedding, go no further than the Smith Barn and book it! Everything from the day we booked The Smith Barn all the way to the day after went smoothly and absolutely perfectly! The Smith Barn coordinator, Tammy Messina, was responsive, attentive, professional, experienced and supportive every step of the way. We had no doubt from the beginning that we were in good hands that we could rely upon to keep things seamlessly on track the day of the wedding.
As for the Barn itself, it is charming, inviting and a unique venue. It is a real barn, not a function facility built to look like a barn giving it character. Every one of our guests commented on how it felt intimate and that they were not "guests." Rather, they were friends and family enjoying an evening together.
The Smith Barn is one of a kind when it comes to venue and service.

Dream Venue on the Farm

Smith Barn is a gem. Tammy is a consummate professional and runs the show here. She truly keeps the integrity of the barn and will be there every step of the way until your wedding day. On our wedding day, Tammy was behind the scenes making sure everything went perfect and we could not thank her enough for making our day so special. From the brick walkway for the outdoor ceremony, to the stunning string lights hanging in the air conditioned barn and all the little touches truly make this a dream venue!

Stunning and versatile Venue!

Wow what a gorgeous venue! It is stunning and versatile. There are historic buildings, gardens, orchards and the barn itself is rustically beautiful. This was great for photos. Be sure to take advantage of the entire property. We got married in the garden across the street from the barn and used the gazebo for a cigar bar. Barn needs little decoration as the lights are always strung from the banister and columns. Tammy, the event director is very organized and was responsive and easy to work with. You choose from a list of caterers, all of which were excellent.

Smith Barn was the PERFECT place for my husband and I to get married. It is so stunning which I didn't fully realize until we received some of our professional photos. The setting is so diverse and gorgeous. Tammy was easy to communicate with and really helped with the flow of the day as did her staff. They were all so kind to us, it really makes you feel special. If I had to do it all again I would always come back to the Smith Barn.

I was recently married at the BEAUTIFUL Smith Barn in Peabody, MA and I cannot say enough great things about this venue. The function manager, Tammy, was amazing. From the moment we had our first appointment straight through to the day of our wedding she was there to answer any questions and made sure our day was perfect! I see some other reviews showing frustration about no email communication but I never saw this as an issue since she was always available to speak to me directly. There is something to be said about that level of customer service!
The venue itself is just gorgeous and the staff was so professional. We had over 200 guests and everything went so smooth! The bartenders were so friendly and moved through our line of thirsty guests very quickly!
I highly recommend this venue!

My husband and I were married on 11/4 at the Smith Barn and we could NOT be more thrilled with how our day went! Tammy Messina is incredible. She checked in with me constantly to make sure I had everything I needed, and she worked with my vendors all day so that I could focus on my husband and our guests. I am the type of person to stress and worry about everything, and I have never felt more laid back than I did on our wedding day! Tammy was there any time I needed something (even a glass of wine!), and put me completely at ease. The Barn itself was gorgeous. I was concerned about not having much foliage in early November, but we had absolutely the most gorgeous day. I would recommend the Smith Barn as a venue for anyone looking for an alternative to a ballroom!!! I would just add, couples need to book FAR in advance. We booked in June 2015, and they only had 3 dates to choose from. As I understand it now, they are entirely booked for 2017 and are currently booking for 18 and 19 right now.

My husband and I had the best experience with Smith Barn. Tammy is absolutely amazing. I have no idea how she is so calm and organize with all of the vendors and planning a wedding takes. She called me weeks before my wedding finalizing everything and answering every question. If I texted her she got back to me the next day. On the day of I got out of the limo and there she was ready to grab my dress and get me ready to walk down the aisle. She was amazing during the reception, she even hunted down my friend who knew how to bustle my dress. Love her. Also, Smith Barn is so beautiful! My guests had so many great things to say about the location! I wish I could go back and relive it all again!

We had an amazing wedding at the Smith Barn. It was everything we wanted in terms of a rustic feel, while still being gorgeous and formal enough for an evening wedding. It was also really convenient for our guests to get to. Tammy was easy to work with - very responsive by phone and willing to answer any question you might have. I didn't feel over-managed at all leading up to the wedding, but on the day of, Tammy was there for any support we needed. We got so many compliments on the venue and we are so excited to see our photos!

The best review I read that helped us a lot with deciding on Smith Barn. The review was that Tammy who runs the barn is amazing day of the reception, leading up to the event Tammy isn't that friendly/helpful to deal with. For us this didn't matter because we read this in a review and we were prepared for it. Tammy is not a wedding planner and the barn is the barn there is not much she can answer/do about your wedding. Your caterer does the work and can/will answer your questions. Tammy is there to make sure that the historical barn does not get ruined and help make everything run smoothly day of. I have no complaints about Tammy she was great to us, especially day of offering drinks and helping with entrances, etc. I feel that reading that review prepped us for not needing to bother Tammy, use your caterer. The barn was AMAZING we got married end of August which was scary because of the possibility of hot humid day with no AC or a rainy day being stuck inside. Luckily we had the first weekend in August this year that was not disgustingly hot. Everyone was comfortable, the sunset and views were beautiful. The guests were in awe how beautiful the barn was inside and out. I highly recommend Tammy & Smith Barn for your wedding, go into it with the above information and that if it is hot, cold, raining you will have to deal with it...its a barn.

If you are looking for an place where the service is perfect go here and see Tammy. She was so amazing only downfall she doesn't have an email but when you call her she always answers, so it wasn't a problem at all. Tammy controlled the night so perfectly I didn't have to worry about anything. I would recommend the barn to anyone looking for a beautiful rustic place to have their reception. It was like a fairy tale wedding!!

We got so many compliments on the venue itself and how amazing it looked. Tammy the site coordinator was extremely responsive to all my questions and was amazing on that day letting us know what to do and keeping things in order. Smith Barn was magical! Even the undecorated barn was so unique looking and even better once the holiday lights are turned on. It held our 210 guest wedding without fail and nobody ever felt crammed. The only complaint was the small bar has a tendency to back up quickly due to it being sort of tucked away, but it's made up for by very affordable drinks. Note also that it is only a cash bar, but there is an ATM accessible in the kitchen. If you're looking for a rustic barn wedding that's easy to get to and affordable, definitely check out SmithBarn! But do it soon because there is probably over a year and a half wait.

All of my guests commented on how beautiful the barn was and most of them have never been to a wedding in a barn! Tammy was wonderful and even though plans changed (it was pouring rain and we planned to do the ceremony outside) and traffic, there was a major accident and guests were late because of it, Tammy made sure things ran seamlessly. Thank you so for making my wedding a special celebration.

We had our wedding at the Smith Barn on November 8, 2014 and it was an absolutely perfect venue! The barn and grounds surrounding it are ideal for a rustic wedding. We got married at a nearby church and then had our reception at the barn.

We worked with Tammy who was extremely helpful and professional throughout the entire planning process. Tammy promptly returned my phone calls and was always upfront about what could and could not be done at the barn. For instance, real candles cannot be used in the barn, however, knowing that this is a historical barn, we completely understood and had no complaints. Also, the barn provides a list of preferred caterers that you must choose from; we actually found this extremely helpful because it narrowed down our search for a caterer. (We went with Creative Catering and were extremely satisfied.) Tammy had great suggestions and she was a pleasure to work with!

The barn itself is naturally beautiful and has little white lights strung inside so there is no need for extensive decorations. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect venue!!

We visited one venue when searching for a wedding site, because after seeing Smith Barn, we knew this was where we wanted to get married.

If there's a single negative about Smith Barn, it's that Tammy, the event manager, doesn't use email, but she's more than willing to address every issue over the phone and was very helpful with everything.

On the day of the event, Tammy was beyond anything we could have hoped- she was on top of everything, and refused to let anyone worry about a single detail, because she had it covered.

The look of the venue alone is enough to want to get married there, but knowing that everything would run smoothly without having to stress about any of it, made it perfect.

I'll be completely honest, I thought that it was going to be really difficult to get a hold of Tammy, the event manager because she didn't use email, but folks that is the farthest from the truth.

The venue was perfect for a rustic-style wedding. Everything was perfect for our special day.

Tammy outdid herself making sure that everything went off without a hitch the entire day. She was there and ready when we showed up, assisted me in getting everyone where they needed to be all day and made sure that the schedule was kept to (as much as possible). She was always friendly and accommodating and believe me that is exactly what you need on your big day.

The Smith Barn was our perfect wedding venue. We got married at the Woodland Garden across the street and then had our reception in the barn. Tammy Messina was wonderful to work with and she was extremely helpful throughout the planning process. Anytime I wanted to come up and walk through the barn or ask questions, she was more than willing to help out. Many reviews I read when looking at this venue complained about how she does not use email but I honestly never found this to be a problem. 9 out of 10 times I called her she answered and when she did not, she called me back within an hour. She is great to talk to and was extremely informative about what works well with this particular venue and what does not.
The day of the wedding, Tammy was so incredibly helpful to me and seemed to be everywhere! One second she was grabbing my husband and I drinks and the next second she was carrying or fluffing my dress!
The pictures from our wedding are absolutely beautiful because of this venue. We had guests on both the first and second floor and they had a blast looking down over the balcony during our first dance. Our photographer got some great shots of all of us on the dance floor from above on the balcony.
I would highly recommend this venue if you are looking for a beautiful barn wedding that will be unforgettable! Thank you so much to Tammy and her staff for all of their help and for making our day incredible!

My wife and i were married here a little under a month ago and we still cant believe how smooth and amazing everything was. Tammy was an absolute pleasure to deal with and also made some great suggestions as to who the rest of our wedding " team" should be. The venue was beautiful and with an outdoor "patio" gave us a few different places to take the wedding. Nora and troy our photographers were great as well. Extremely easy to work with and incredibly efficient. We had very little to no time wasted setting up or getting people in order so to speak. I would like to send a special shout out to Penny from Cloverleaf, our caterer. She made us feel so at home and was such a pleasant person to do business with. I will be calling ALL of them again!

We were MORE than pleased with the total venue and especially Tammy's responsiveness to our requests and her readiness to be of service in a timely and professional manner. The venue was beautiful, clean, well maintained and the grounds simply beautiful. Our guests commented on what a fabulous time they had from the food to the lovely setting. Our only regret was the the weather was a bit warmer than we would have liked but it seems that was the ONLY thing Tammy has no influence over! :) The bartenders and waitstaff were friendly and professional, always serving our guests with a smile. My husband and I were married in June at the Smith Barn. It was a beautiful, sunny spring day. The Barn was the perfect venue for us! Tammy was WONDERFUL! She was so helpful from my day of booking straight up to the end of the wedding. She was always more than happy to answer any and ALL of my questions. She doesn't use email but in my opinion speaking on the phone is much more personal. She went above and beyond to be sure my husband and I had everything we needed. We also had our children there and they still to this day talk about how much they loved her. We had a cash bar with a big drinking crowd and the bartenders were so great keeping up with them. My guests kept commenting on how they could remember there drink orders before they placed them and raved at how quickly they were getting through the line of people. It was an amazing night thanks to the staff and I would highly recommend choosing this as your venue!

This was the PERFECT reception venue. My husband and I knew it was for us as soon as we laid eyes on it. It turned out to exceed all of our expectations! The fact that Tammy does not use email was not a problem for us at all, she answered any question I had, returned all my phone calls the same day, and was very helpful the day of the wedding - always making sure my husband and I had whatever we needed. I would choose this venue time and time again, our night was absolutely perfect and our guests have not stopped talking about how beautiful and unique it was. Love, love, love the Smith Barn!

This place is ABSOLUTELY beautiful! I have had so many guests tell me how beautiful the wedding was, and how unique, and different our wedding was! I love that the barn doesn't need much decor because the barn speaks for itself! The lights in the barn make it so easy to do almost nothing on decor which is so nice! tammy the planner is wonderful! The day of she was very attentive, and really is there for the bride, and groom! I loved our venue! I would highly recommend this to any bride to be!

We held our reception at The Smith Barn and one week later we are still hearing from guests how much they loved it.

From the start, working with Tammy was awesome. This was the only venue we looked at and she really helped to seal it for us. She was responsive, professional and so easy to work with. She had answers to all of our questions and some very helpful suggestions. It did help that we booked 10 months in advance, because we had our choice of days.

Prior to the wedding Tammy reached out to make sure we were all set and to go over details. We decided on an open bar and her suggestion of a set dollar amount, no top shelf and no shots make it work perfectly for us.

On the day of the event she was awesome. Our other vendors enjoyed working with her, and she helped our photographer by suggesting spots that would be perfect for photos (and they were).

The building itself was wonderful. Aside from centerpieces, we needed nothing else. The entire place is covered in twinkle lights, which looked positively magical when dusk arrived. We had a beautiful night, so our guests were able to relax just outside of the Barn doors, but could come right back in to dance or get a drink. It really was the perfect set up.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd do it the same way. This was the perfect location.

We loved the Smith Barn at Brooksby Farm. Tammy the manager uses a mobile phone and not email, so if you are an email addict, take note. The barn itself is beautiful, raw, and rustic. They have a list of preferred caterers that you use. Done up with mini holiday lights, it becomes a magical place for a reception. Our guests are still raving about it. We had no problems and highly recommend the space to anyone looking. It does book up fast though.

Dreamy and romantic

I am still on cloud nine from my wedding at the Smith Barn. It could not have been more romantic, dreamy, beautiful. We originally had planned to be married in December 2020 and had to reschedule for December 2021. All along the way, Tammy, the venue manager, was a great guide and so helpful to work with. I had a lot of questions on details and logistics to help make decisions about the wedding day specifics, and Tammy was readily available to answer them by text or phone at any time. Tammy is super experienced and has been doing this for so many years, it works like clockwork. Honestly, as the bride, I barely saw what Tammy was doing on the day of and that's the magic of Tammy - she takes away any tactical concerns so you can focus on getting married. And really - the barn as a venue is flawless. I was worried because the wedding was in winter, so we did everything in the barn space rather than using the grounds, but I heard this from so many guests, the wedding felt intimate, relaxed, and magical. Everyone was able to visit. And best of all, the dance floor was packed ALL night. I could not be happier! It really was everything we wanted :)

Beautiful venue with amazing staff

We got married at Smith Barn in July 2019 and cannot say enough positive things about this venue! Tammy is an incredible event coordinator and made the day super smooth. Before the wedding, we visited the barn several times and she was always available to answer our questions. On the day of our wedding, the weather was very, very hot and humid with a chance of thunderstorms. When the rain finally came, we did an indoor ceremony last minute. Her team made this transition seamlessly. The air conditioning inside the barn was cranking and it was cool and comfortable despite the 90+ degree temp. We also had over 180 guests and the bar line was never an issue. If you're looking for a rustic venue (with air conditioning) that can hold a large wedding - this is your place!

This venue is amazing! It's so open and down to earth and the grounds are positively beautiful! Tammy, the coordinator, is great! She made us feel like everything was going to be taken care of and took a lot if stress off of us! She doesn't communicate via email but always was reachable by phone!

We had our June 21st wedding at Brooksby Farm in Peabody, Massachusetts. Tammy was our contact and, although she does not use email, she was extremely responsive with phone calls and always called me back same-day. We planned our wedding from out of state and booked Brooksby Farm without seeing it in person. We trusted the opinions of our families and were reassured by Tammy that everything would run smoothly. We also googled the venue and were able to review wedding photos on photographer websites and that gave us a better idea of the space, as the Brooksby Farm website does not have many photos. When we did finally see the venue in person, we fell in love with the setting. We were married behind the Felton house and our reception was held in Smith Barn. While waiting for the ceremony to start, we waited in the Felton House and Tammy was there to help us with last minute details and with any mishaps - she even ran over to get safety pins from our bathroom baskets when I got lipstick on my wedding dress! One thing to keep in mind is that there is no air conditioning in the barn. Our wedding day was a hot day and although there were fans and windows, it did get hot before the sun went down. Luckily, Smith Barn has a few wood tables outside and some of our guests were able to stay out there for dinner. Another thing to keep in mind is the bar does not have a credit card machine. The day before the wedding, we chose to have an open bar, however were unable to have just beer and wine. So, after talking about the options with Tammy, we did remove top shelf and chose to have no shots and no martinis. This kept our cost down but still gave our guests variety! All in all, Brooksby Farm was an amazing venue and we were very happy with our choice!

So my fiance and I knew we didn't want the same old hotel venue with scary carpets and awful curtains. Having said that, we wanted a place that was equally as unique as it was gorgeous. Let me say unequivocally that the Smith Barn more than fits the bill. The inside of the barn is beautiful and cozy and the surrounding grounds are great too. Tammy is quick to return all phone calls and answer any questions. If you are looking for someone to "plan" your wedding, that isn't her, but then again that's not her job. Being a historical society property there are some restrictions (no balloons, confetti, open flame, etc), but these were not a problem for us. We used LED tea lights on the tables and you really couldn't tell the difference. The bar is either all cash or consumption, based on how much your guests drink. You can set a limit however and once it reaches that amount it can switch to cash bar. It also helps to take out all top shelf liquors (which still leaves many high ends and a great variety) and shots, which stretches your dollar farther. They also allow, which I recommend, having your caterer serve sparkling cider for the "champagne" toast. That saves you big on something that often times just gets dumped out anyways. I don't even think anyone noticed either!! We had a beautiful day at the end of August with perfect weather. The barn doesn't have AC so plan your date accordingly if possible. I can see it getting pretty hot in there, but it was great for us! Our guests are still raving about the venue and how unique and amazing it was. If your looking for something different and beautiful, the Smith Barn really is it!!

I was married in Sept, 2011 and can't help but rave about The Smith Barm and staff! Where do I start.... Tammy Messina function manager went above and beyond not only on my wedding day but prior to with all of my phone calls and emails to help make sure my day was perfect. Which it absolutely was!!!! Her professionalism and yet caring touch made all the difference in comparison of some other venues I had seen. On the day of she acted as my wedding coordinater(since I didn't have one) making sure my wedding party was were they we're supposed to be(ceremony, reception, and group photo) which was fantastic. Tammy was always concerned with my well being constantly asking if I needed anything. Helping to melt my stress away...Love her!! As for the bartenders they were just amazing! The line was sol long being 200+ guests and in a blink of an eye no line! That made me and my guests very happy to not have to wait in a long line. They were very friendly and even remembered what a bunch of us were drinking. Overall it really was a fantastic day with too many great things to list about the Smith Barn and staff!

I loved everything about Brooksby Farm. The ceremony space was gorgeous and intimate, the room in the Felton house was air conditioned (important as it was 90+ degrees that day) and the barn was twinkly and beautiful. We had tons of kids at our wedding, and set up the back side lawn with a cornhole game and some playground balls and the kids had a great time. The space was perfect for us--very casual and laid back, as well as lush and beautiful.

Things to work around: no candles or flames of any kind, so we used battery powered votives that we had to disguise creatively. No outside alcohol, only open bar or cash bar. Pretty strict time policy--only open two hours before and a half hour after, and you rent the space for six hours. If it's hot, the barn is hot. Upstairs is really hot. But they have fans and people didn't seem to mind too much--they hung out outside a lot and were only inside to eat. Tammy doesn't email, which is sometimes frustrating, but she returns calls immediately and is unbelievably good at her job on the day of your wedding. No frills, no problems. She gets things done.

We had Vinwood cater--they were impeccable, friendly and delicious. The caterer really runs your wedding at Brooksby, so pick someone you love. When you rent the space, you are literally just renting the space, and bringing in everything else. But if you are looking for a unique, homey, twinkly-rustic-lush-beautiful space, you have to get married here. It's so wonderful.

We absolutely LOVED our wedding here. We were blessed with a sunny, beautiful day and were able to have the ceremony in the Woodland Gardens- which even in the very beginning of May was stunning. The reception at the Smith Barn was a blast and everyone commented on how distinct and rustic it was. The party was a blast and having it at the Smith Barn was just the absolute best decision my husband and I made during the planning process.

The one negative is that the event manager is only responsive by telephone and does not use emails. In this day and age, it seemed a bit weird in the beginning. But it actually ended up working out perfectly, and we were able to contact her through phone calls and voice mails whenever needed.

For a Spring or Summer wedding, I'd definitely recommend this venue for a distinct beauty and rusticness that stands out among other weddings. :) We loved our beautiful day!

We had our wedding here Nov. 14, 2009. We went with many recommended vendors and were very very pleased. The function manager, Tammy, was very helpful, flexible, and on top of things. She frequently checked in with us and our families. Penny, from Cloverleaf Catering, was amazing. We had the perfect amount of food with many compliments that continued well after the wedding. The waitstaff from Cloverleaf was attentive, friendly, and top of their game.

It poured on our wedding day and I truly feel that the rain mixed with this venue made is even more beautiful. Tammy met me at my limo with an umbrella.

The only thing I would change would have been the hours. I would have liked to add a few hours, but then again, that would have increased our open bar bill. Prices were very reasonable at the bar, even with a heavy drinking crowd. The other small inconvienence was that you had to take your belongings home that night, although Tammy and the caterers, made that happen seamlessly with some bridesmaids.

I can't thank Smith Barn and Tammy enough for my amazing wedding!

Beautiful and charming place for a country style wedding. easy to work with and wonderful natural scenery. this place books fast because its only open on weekends and the season is short, plus its one venue per day which is very nice. We attended a wedding here years ago and really loved the charm and character of the barn. when it was time to plan our wedding it was the perfect choice for price, location, size, character and ambiance. Tammy, the function manager, was wonderful to work with, she returned all my calls and answered all my neurotic questions! She was there the day of the wedding to make sure everything went according to plan and when we had to move the ceremony inside due to weather she and the caterer worked together to make sure everything was set up and flowed smoothly. The only downfall we incountered was because its a historical site we couldn't have candles on the tables or outside so we got creative and set up shepards hooks outside with lanterns on them with battery powered candles inside! it was beautiful and offered some nice mood lighting outside. If you're looking for a charming country style wedding with out giving up elegance than the barn is worth it!

I went to a wedding at Smith Barn 6 years ago and from the moment I walked in I knew that was where I wanted to get married one day. Well that day came on 9/16/16 and it was everything I could have imagined! Tammy was very helpful in recommending other vendors and helping out on the day of the wedding making sure everything went smoothly. The barn is so beautiful and exactly what I was hoping for for our rustic themed wedding. This was our dream venue and even though it took some imagination to get my now husband and family on board after only seeing it in the dead of winter and undecorated everyone now says it was like a fairytale. Tammy is wonderful, all day she was checking in to see what we needed, waters or lip gloss during pictures, extra food at dinner, or anything else. She was attentive through the entire process, she always said she was only a phone call or a text away and she truly was and responded within hours. Tammy knows the venue and is honest about what she knows will work to make your day flow perfectly. The barn is beautiful and needs very little decoration because it is beautiful on its own. The surrounding grounds made our pictures better than I could ever have dreamed.

Smith Barn was the perfect venue for us - beautiful yet laid back, historic yet very well kept up. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day - sunny with a good breeze. I could see it getting quite hot in the barn if it got really hot, but with the barn doors open, we had a solid breeze coming in to cool things down. Tammy even set up extra fans on the second floor just to be safe.
We got married in the woodland gardens across the street - a great spot - very private away from the road and a simple but beautiful arbor to get married in front of. There is even a slight slope down towards the arbor making it easier for people in the back rows to see. A big plus is that they just bought new white garden chairs for the barn so the old ones are available for use over in the garden area for the ceremony. Our caterer (Vinwood) set all of the chairs up for us - enough for 160 people - and it looked great.
As for the barn, they just redid the entry way, which is a marked improvement over how it used to look - a much better entrance now. Tammy was great to work with. Yes, it's a little different that you can't reach her on email, but you literally could call her at any hour of the day and I'm sure she would pick up or get back to you quickly. She proactively called me twice before the wedding just to check-in and go over details. She wasn't coordinating much the day of the wedding, but it wasn't very necessary since vinwood was so on the ball and coordinated everything (ie. set up place cards, set out gifts).
The bar was very reasonable, including an option to take away topshelf liquor and have a 'no shots' policy. Very helpful.
Lastly, Brooskby Farm is such a gorgeous spot, there are a billion great places for photos. Our photographer got some great shots with so much to work with.
I got so many compliments on the venue the day of the wedding - unique, stunning, romantic...I honestly couldn't have been happier with the place. Thanks Smith Barn!

I had my wedding 2 weeks ago at The Smith Barn. It was a beautiful wedding and everything went smoothly. Tammy is the main contact person for the barn and she is extremely helpful. The only downfall I found is that she is only accessible by phone and not email. But she ALWAYS answers her phone and is extremely straight forward with all questions. She was there the day of and directed everyone where to go. I was planning and outdoor ceremony and of course it rained for the 30 minutes of my ceremony so we had to move it indoors but it was a beautiful indoor wedding too with the big barn doors open to outside. Tammy talked me down when I was in a panic about the rain and assured me it would be beautiful and it was. Tammy was helpful and accommodating to all our needs and stuck around the whole night to make sure everything went smoothly. Although it was hot and humid the barn was warm but not overly hot and there are many fans moving air, so if you plan on having an outdoor wedding anyway with no AC this place is beautiful. It is tastefully lit with white twinkle lights all throughout. The barn has regular bathrooms (sounds silly but a lot of rustic barns require you to bring in toilets so this was awesome!), a full bar and liquor license, large outside yard which we took advantage of for lawn games during cocktail hour which was a huge hit! There are some great photo opportunities as well. The only suggestions I can make are 1. Book early ( I booked a year in advance and there were only 2 dates left and 45 appointments following mine so I had to book just about on the spot) and 2. Either hire a wedding planner to do your setup and break down or find some good friends to do it and buy them dinner after as there is no one there to do it for you ;)

The bottom line is that all of our guests raved about our venue and we couldn't have imagined the day anywhere else. It is totally picturesque while being very convenient to the Boston area. Tammy was easy to reach when we had questions, and on the big day she made sure everything went off without a hitch in a friendly and pleasant manner. The only downsides are a few restrictions that naturally come with being a historic barn (i.e., no sparklers/open flames) as well as the lack of open bar options (we did open bar, but simply paid the bar tab at the end of the night). However, those are totally worth it to get all of the positive aspects of this amazing venue!

The Smith Barn was an amazing and beautiful place for our reception. The barn is set on a working apple orchard, and the back doors overlook the trees. There is a big grassy area, which was helpful for us since we had several children attending and it gave them an appropriate place to run around. Inside is clean, and a great space. The dance floor and outside furniture are stripped and refinished at the beginning of every spring, so they look fabulous. I did have to play phone tag with Tammy (the Function Coordinator) a bit, but once I got ahold of her, she was extremely helpful. She was present the day of the wedding, and was there to answer any last minute questions up until the day before. Since this is such a popular spot, and the Barn only provides dates on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from April to October, the dates go fast. However, they only book one function per day, so you don't have to worry about getting kicked out for another party. You are limited to 5 hours to use the Barn, but if you want to bring extra decorations beforehand, you are welcome to set them up. Overall, we were very pleased with our choice, and we highly recommend this for a unique reception that people will talk about for years!

There aren't many venues like this in the area! We got so many compliments on the unique venue choice. I didn't want a ballroom or hotel with no character. The barn is so beautiful on its own with the old signs, rustic wood and string lights that little extra work is involved to make it stunning. We are so happy we went with Smith Barn! The only drawback is that the manager of the barn (although she rocks and really knows what she is doing!) doesn't have an email address, it was phone contact only.

The Smith Barn is a beautiful and unique location. We really wanted something rustic and unique and this place fit the bill. We had a gorgeous spring day and everything looked amazing. Unfortunately, it was unusually hot that date so I wouldn't recommend it for summer wedding. It was almost 90 that day and most of our guest who were seated up stairs ended up eating outside because it was so hot. Luckily, there were only 4 table of say 8 up there.

Yes, Tammy the contact person doesn't use email which kinda stinks. But she always called us back. She doesn't do much to help set things up so we depended on our caterer, our florist and a family friend to come in and make sure everything was set up perfectly. Which really helped and I would recommend that anyone planning to get married there arrange to have a helper as well. Besides that the day of our wedding she really pulled through. That day she was amazing, as took care of one our guests who passed out from heat stroke and managed to keep the whole thing out of site of my husband and I, as not to worry us.

They are a little strict on hours, ( you are only allowed in 2 hrs before the start of your event to set up, that was a pain. ) the bar and hanging things which was sort of a pain but nothing that we couldn't handle.

Yet, all in all the scenery, compliments and laid back feel which my guest enjoyed made it all worth it. I would recommend it to others looking for a unique location.

Brooksby is beautiful, and there are so many amazing photographic hot spots here. Tammy, their function coordinator did a great job and talked me off several cliffs during my planning freak-outs. But that arbor in the ceremony site... There are three arbors in the garden. One of the white ones is in disrepair. It's not falling down, but it's clearly broken, and it doesn't look good. With the rates they charge and number of weddings they hold at Brooksby, that arbor could have been repaired several times over and maintained so that it didn't break again. Also, I understand the rules about no confetti of any kind, with it getting stuck in the old barn floor boards, no open flames, but I also wasn't allowed to have my bridesmaids dress in the bridal room with me. I was told it was extremely tiny, so they should come dressed. That room could have been a perfect size for dressing if they had a privacy sign to hang on the door while the girls change into dresses (not a space for hair or makeup, but for dressing, the size is just fine, unless you have a ridiculously large wedding party). The landscape at Brooksby is perfect, and the barn was absolutely lovely. I love that the white lights are up all the time, they were beautiful. All in all I loved it, but I should have kept the barn doors open during the reception. It was warm enough, but I was too busy to think to ask for it at the time.

Our June wedding ceremony and reception were absolutely gorgeous. We held our ceremony in the Woodland Gardens space behind the Nathaniel Felton Jr House, which was very lovely -- the trees and flowers were in full bloom and it was beautiful. Our cocktail reception was held outside of Smith Barn with dinner and dancing inside. We were fortunate to have the only good weather in the month.

It was nice working with Tammy, the function manager, and she was very responsive by phone. It is worth nothing that she does not work with email, which is definitely my preferred method of communication. Tammy was very helpful the day of the wedding.

While there is no disputing the fact that the space is fantastic, there are a few rules that are rigid:
(a) They have two preferred caterers and there is an extra fee for using one that is not on their list. While this is generally commonplace with venues, typically it is in writing and I saw no mention of this in the contract. We did go with an outside caterer and were extremely happy that we did so. If you find a caterer that you like, don't let Tammy pressure you into using their caterers.
(b) There is a kitchen fee that was charged by Peabody Historical Society to my caterer. This was passed on to me. This fee was separate and in addition to the other fee we paid directly to Peabody Historical Society.
(c) Bar is provided by the function hall -- liquor options are full open bar or cash bar only. You do not have the option to select just beer/wine or do signature cocktails (which was what we would have done if given the option). I spoke with Tammy and she generously allowed us to remove top shelf liquor - but keep the open bar still. An 18% gratuity is automatically added to the liquor bill. We were very pleased with service provided by the bartenders and in the end, the final bar bill was very, very reasonable.

Smith Barn at Brooksby Farm is the most beautiful venue I'd ever seen and so i pretty much had to choose it. There are small downsides to choosing it as it is part of a historical society and thus has pretty stringent rules. The main problem I had with Smith Barn was with the bar. They don't do an open bar as in a certain dollar amount per guest (which actually is not uncommon it seems), they only do an open bar based on consumption, which to me is more like running a tab then an "open bar". They did, however, let my husband and I put down a certain monetary amount and when that ran out, the bar switched to cash which was a good option for us. The other issue is that the bar only takes cash and has no ATM so it became kind of a logistical issue for us to repeat a number of times to our guests "Remember to bring cash!" especially as they were shuttled there so there would be no way to run out and grab cash if they ran out. However, our guests handled it as adults and it worked out fine. Tammy is great to work with. She is very honest with you about any questions you have and she actually saved us some stress and money with some of her openness. She has a little bit of a "my way or the highway" attitude but I think that's completely reasonable given, 1) she's been doing it for along time and she knows what she's doing, 2) she's telling you the rules of a venue owned by a historical society, and 3) being up front with rules makes for no confusion later. They do a lot of weddings (because it's a great venue), so they have pretty strict load in and load out times, but with help from a few friends and our caterer, everything ran smoothly.

We had our wedding at the Smith Barn and loved it overall. It was absolutely beautiful and was the vibe was what we were going for. Tammy, the event manager, was helpful but more difficult to reach since she does not use email.

Because it is a historical society, there are several rules- some of which we were aware of and some not. No open flames or balloons allowed. That's not a big deal. But we spent almost $150 on flower petals only to find out no petals are allowed either. We also found out late in the planning that the bar only uses hard plastic cups for alcohol- no glass.

I would recommend this site to others, but just be prepared for a few restictions

The Smith barn at Brooksby farm was a beautiful venue. We were blessed with bright sunny weather which helped us have a lovely ceremony on site and a nice opportunity for our guests to mill about the grounds and enjoy the scenery, which includes expansive orchards. The barn itself for our ceremony is wonderful when it is all decorated for a reception. Many of our guests commented that they were impressed with the uniqueness of the site and also how surprised they were that a barn could look so amazing. I would say that the site manager is sometimes difficult to reach and she can take a while to get back to you, but in the end they did a great job with our event and we were quite pleased.

Smith Barn is amazing. My husband and I went to see the barn on a random Sunday before we were engaged and we knew at that moment that we were having our wedding reception there. We never went back until the day we got married! When we called to book, there were no dates available but Tammy quickly called us back when another couple did not put their deposit down so that we did not have to wait another year to be married. Everything worked out great! The only downfall was that the bar is limited in what they serve and they do not have glassware so that was a glitch we had to work out but it all worked out in the end.

The site of the Smith Barn is breathtaking. Despite my poor review, I wouldn't have chossen to have it anywhere else. The site itself is AMAZING!
However, Tammy (the function manager) needs some work. For the cost of the Smith barn, they should really be supplying a wedding coordinator. Everywhere else I looked at in this price range and even less expensive venues offered this service. I quickly found out this is NOT what Tammy does. To say that Tammy was "hands off" with the planning in an understatement. She does not use email so whenever you have a question you have to call her. She is very quick at returning your calls but generally short with her responses. I went with Cloverleaf Catering and thank goodness for them. They were really the ones to answer all of the questions I had. Bottom line, Brooksby is beautiful but don't expect much from Tammy. Make sure you have a great caterer or hire a wedding planner. I am a DYI sort of girl but even I needed more support than she could offer.

I would only recommend this to a friend after warning her about my concerns. I would recommend it for the beauty of the building alone.
