Perfect Day thanks to Sheraton Raleigh Hotel!

We held all of our wedding events at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel and everyone we worked with us made us feel infinitely special and important. They were available via e-mail anytime and their experience made our planning process a breeze. Even with 4 other weddings going on, they worked tirelessly on our wedding weekend to make sure everything ran smoothly and we felt like the most important people in the room. I'm so glad we hired the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel!

    Abshier-Crane wedding

It wasn't easy planning a wedding when the bride is in NC, the groom in Japan, and the parents are in MD and TX, but it still went off without a hitch thanks to the great help of Lauren Dealto and Kayla Rocamora. The wedding was beautiful, food awesome, and service spectacular! Such a beautiful venue and perfect location!

I helped decorate the venue for a niece's wedding. Since I am from out of town, I relied heavily on texts and emails. Lauren was super responsive and took time to answer my many questions. On "the day of", her team went above and beyond in every way - even being willing to run to the store for candles if needed. They were gracious to accommodate me: allowing me to come in early to set up, providing help where needed... even mailing back some things I had forgotten during clean-up. I can't say enough about how easy they made it for me to make this day special for our family.

I reserved a block of rooms for my daughter's wedding last weekend and was so pleased with the Sheraton Raleigh. Maite Vigil handled the wedding block and she provided outstanding customer service! She is kind, professional, prompt in her responses and went above and beyond what was expected. Because we booked at least 40 nights, we were able to get the Governors Suite at a discounted rate. What a treat that was! It's like an apartment with a separate bedroom/bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room and another bathroom. We could have also gotten the Presidential suite, with a larger kitchen but one less bathroom. My daughter had so much space! She stayed in the suite Friday night and her bridesmaids stayed in the connecting double queen room. Because her wedding ceremony was at 11 AM, makeup and hair artists showed up at 6am to set up in the large suite. I woke up the bridesmaids as needed and my daughter was able to sleep in until her time while the rest of us had our makeup done in the dining room. It could not have worked out better. Then she and her husband stayed in the suite Saturday night. The hotel is in a great location and we were able to walk to most attractions. They took care of setting out our gift bags and also had treats of their own for the guests coming in. The rooms have been remodeled and have wood laminate flooring which was appreciated for cleanliness. Room service was quick and the pool was great for the young kids. There were just a couple of downsides. First, was that two of the three elevators were broken and it was about a 20 minute wait. We would have walked, but were on the 15th floor. Second was the 4pm check in process. It was so crowded at the front desk and there was a line to pull into the Salisbury hotel entrance to drop off people. Our rehearsal was at 5pm, so we barely made it. But the downsides were overwhelmed by the amazing customer service, location and friendliness of the staff.

Lauren was terrific to work with. From the time we were considering which venue to go with Lauren was responsive and professional. Very good at follow up and returning calls and email. I would definite recommend Lauren to run anyone’s function. I appreciate how she reached out to all of our vendors to coordinate the wedding day events. The venue itself was very nice. The upstairs area for the cocktail area was warm and inviting. The room we had the event in was also a good choice for us. The food was very good and we had good comments about the food. The only issues I had with the food was that there were no appetizers left except for some cheeses by the time my husband and I got to the reception which was a little after 6:00. The bride and groom also didn’t get any I did ask Joanna and the older gentleman who seemed to be in charge of the wait staff to bring more out. Unfortunately we never got any. The wait staff needed to do a better job of evening out the appetizers and should have made sure the host and hostess got some. They were a lot of young men at the event and apparently they wolfed down the appetizers. Next time they need to watch that especially since some of the appetizers were passed around. Joanna said she would pack some up for me so I at least had a taste. None were packed up. Also the wait staff was too quick to take people’s food away and did not ask to take it away. I was not finished with my salad and they took it away. I was at my seat talking to my niece who was sitting to my right. I went back to finish my salad and it was gone. They also took my dinner plate away too soon. Please have the wait staff ask people if it is okay to take people’s food away. But other than that, everything was outstanding. We heard from a lot of people that it was the best wedding they have ever been to. I would definitely recommend your venue for a wedding. Thank you

We used the Sheraton Raleigh to block rooms for our wedding guests, and we are so happy we did! The customer service was great and all our guests really enjoyed their stay and the convenience of having a restaurant/bar right on site. It's a comfortable walking distance from downtown restaurants and other places. Definitely recommend!

We had the governor suite for our wedding on August 19, 2017. It was absolutely perfect! We loved every minute of it! My only request would have been to have a tub in one of the bathrooms to help me relax before the wedding but other than that it was great!

A beautiful venue where you have everything under one roof: Friendly and professional staff, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, out-of-town guest accommodations and parking a few feet away. Don't forget night life and things to do for your guest downtown. The Sheraton Raleigh is your one stop shop, they even have a great vendors list. I should know, we used it all and then some. Everything from beginning to end was superb!

I am so glad we decided to go with the Sheraton for our venue! They made everything super easy. I loved working with Lauren DeAlto! She really knows her stuff and did everything possible to help us stay within budget. She is professional, helpful, funny, gets the job done and handled our crazy families with ease. No detail was forgotten. The staff was very accommodating. They did everything possible to make sure our event went off without a hitch. Everything from adding more rooms to the room block, to getting me an iron the day of to get last minute wrinkles out of my dress. I wouldn't have done it any other way! I highly recommend Lauren and her team for any special event!

The Sheraton was WONDERFUL to work with! Our primary contact was Lauren and she is an amazing person and a true professional! She offered incredibly helpful advice whenever we had questions and worked with our budget to make our wedding reception a dream come true. Lauren and the rest of the Sheraton’s staff kept open lines of communication between us and our vendors throughout the planning process so that everyone was on the same page for our wedding day. The entire staff was incredible during our reception and all of our guest are still raving about it.

Having a Wedding Ceremony and Reception in a Hotel just makes sense. Guests from out of town stay there overnight.
Everyone can gather and meet in the lobby.
Restaurants and Bar is located right there.

We had an incredible experience working with everyone at this Sheraton in downtown Raleigh. From the moment we first got in touch with the hotel to ask about their space to the time we ended up having our reception there a year later, everyone we met was professional, friendly, incredibly responsive and helpful. We had several out of town guests attend our wedding, and they loved the convenience of the Sheraton to all the things that downtown Raleigh has to offer.
Hollie Moot helped us set up a room block for our guests and responded to all our questions and concerns quickly and professionally. She happily accommodated an increase we needed to make to the number of rooms in our room block a few weeks before the wedding. Lauren DeAlto was our main event coordinator and she was there to respond to my questions throughout. I enjoyed every meeting I had with her and left each one feeling confident that our event would go smoothly and be really wonderful. All of guests raved about how beautiful the entire hotel space was and kept telling us how delicious the food was at our reception. Chef Thomas and his staff did a great job with our reception buffet. We cannot begin to thank everyone enough for helping us have an incredible and memorable wedding day!

She answered all of my questions promptly and was able to upgrade our complimentary room to a suite. Our wedding was amaz

My wedding ceremony and reception took place in two small banquet rooms next to one another at the hotel. From the moment we met with the wedding coordinator for the Sheraton, Lauren, I felt a sense of calm. She is so pulled together and knew exactly what we wanted when I couldn't find the appropriate descriptive words. When we got our final bill we were shocked because of the level of service, food and fun we got for such a reasonable price.

The ceremony room was just perfect for our small service. The reception was outstanding especially considering it was for only 19 people as my husband and I are older and this wasn't our first wedding. We wanted it small and intimate yet still lovely and that's precisely what we got. The set up team for the ceremony and reception rooms were professional and paid attention to the smallest of details. The tables looked magnificent and the layout of the tables and dance floor were perfect. Benji and Lawrence set everything up and made everything elegant.

The food was delicious with a beautiful presentation. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection. All of the guests raved about the food. There was more than enough from the appetizers to the dinners. The house wine and champagne were great. A large variety of beer as well as a bar-tended was provided.

The food servers worked seamlessly. I would definitely recommend the this venue for a reception if nothing else. Everyone from the bellmen to the people at the front desk were pleasant.

Parking was a breeze at the parking garage just in front of the hotel that can be accessed from 2 streets.

I'm so grateful I got to have my wedding and reception at the Sheraton in Downtown Raleigh. It made my wedding so memorable and highly recommend it.

We recently had our wedding at the Sheraton Raleigh, and it was absolutely wonderful! From planning to the event, Lauren was great to work with. We wanted a central location where our guests (many from out of town) could just focus on having fun the entire wedding weekend, and the Sheraton was perfect. We had events throughout the hotel over the weekend, from Friday drinks at Jimmy V’s, our Saturday night wedding reception, and the Sunday farewell brunch in the Governor’s Room – Lauren, the Sheraton, and everyone stepped up to make it a fun and stress-free weekend (not easily done with the bride!). Lauren was wonderful in recommending vendors, helping with the timeline, menu tasting, and making sure everything was just right. The actual wedding reception was perfect, our guests had so much fun, the food and drinks were great, the lighting was beautiful, it was more than I could have hoped. I am so happy that I had my wedding at the Sheraton and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to have a great wedding themselves.

Lauren, Lawrence, & the entire Sheraton staff did an AMAZING job on our recent wedding reception. Every single guest commented on the fantastic hospitality they received during their stay. We could not have asked for a better team to take care of us and our guests during our wedding weekend! Everything was perfect - and if it wasn't the team corrected it before anyone could even notice. The team went above and beyond to help us throughout the entire planning process and the actual wedding weekend. Lauren always made herself available to me for any questions or concerns we had along the way (and we had a ton!) She also helped us prioritize what was important to us and gave us great tips on how to make things work within our budget. Lauren had multiple weddings and events going on during our wedding weekend, but I felt like I was her most important client for the entire weekend - she was there every time I needed to ask her something. Lawrence was our banquet captain and he rocked it!! Anything we needed or our guests asked for he accommodated with amazing precision and professionalism. We are truly thankful that we chose The Sheraton to host such an unforgettable event!

Let me start with “We couldn’t’ve asked for more, it was PERFECT!” From the moment I began planning to the day after the event at check out, every member of the Sheraton team gave 100%, was helpful and were all very professional. Every event has its issues, such as set up disputes or design differences and room limitations, but the outcome is what drives this review. The Sheraton was able to accommodate all my needs, the bridal dressing room with fruit platters, yogurt dip and water, the ceremony draping, staging and up-lighting, a cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvre during room change over and photos, and the reception buffet, up-lighting to name a few.

The staff was there the moment we drove up, they shuttled our bag to rooms, decorations to hall, and gift bags to our guest’s suites. I had an afternoon wedding so, we woke up had a breakfast meeting for team bride and team groom at Jimmy V’s great breakfast buffet. The set up began and we had the assistance of our personal coordinator Lauren and her right hands, Terrance and Lawrence. Lauren worked with the DJ to be sure all music was queued during the ceremony and reception, worked with the photographer on photo location ideas, and made sure all gifts and decorations were secured when it ended. From the beginning to the end all staff members were there to make this a perfect day.

The banquet hall was beautiful and tastefully decorated when it was empty, which is one of the many reasons we picked this locations, the beautiful hanging chandeliers, the carpet was neutral, the option to have the arm charms. That when my wedding decorations were brought in, the room works with all of them. And the buffet set up was so elegant with the multi-tiered platters and non-standard chafing trays, the food was more than enough and the selection was wonderful.

Absolutely love Lauren! She did everything we asked at a very reasonable price. It was so nice to have rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception all in the same place. Couldn't ask for anything better. Venue is beautiful and a great size for a wedding for 150-200 people.

The Raleigh Sheraton Hotel was only 5 blocks away from our ceremony site which made it a possible candidate to use for our wedding reception and food venue. The hotel option was the best one for us due to our enormous out of state guest list. After researching hotels in the local area, the Raleigh Sheraton Hotel won hands down in price point for food and alcohol and in architectural elegance (they were making a 6 million dollar renovation several months before our wedding date.) When John and I first booked the hotel for our reception venue, we were working with a different catering manager. Ana was very kind and helpful in answering all of our questions. Once you sign the contract, it will be several month later before needing to finalize more details of your wedding with the catering manager. As our wedding grew closer to the date, I called back and found out that Ana had left and was replaced by someone else. Between a new catering manager, renovations, and me planning the wedding from another city, John and I (more myself haha) were anxious to meet the new staff member.

To our joyous surprise, we met Lauren DeAlto, the new catering manager. The first meeting, was a lot of firsts for the both of us. We were her first clients to have a food tasting and it was our first time meeting the chef (at Jimmy V's) for our reception. Lauren was a delight to work with as she listened and took notes of all the food choices. She put us at ease as we got to know each other better, had a few laughs, and enjoyed a delicious meal. The chef was very professional and accommodating in creating the two meal choices for us. From that point onward, John and I knew we were in great hands. On our big day, Lauren provided those helping us with the set-up of our reception with hand's on direction and assistance, bringing to life what we had envisioned. We can't thank Lauren and the rest of the Sheraton crew enough for making our special day one that we'll always remember.

We had a great experience at the Sheraton! We worked with Ana, the Social Sales Manager, to get everything planned. Ana was very helpful and responsive. She helped us find the best space for our needs, and plan a delicious menu. She really went above and beyond post-wedding; when I accidentally left a rented cake stand at the hotel, she dropped it off at the bakery for me!

Our guests loved the beautiful, and newly-renovated, ballroom, and everyone loved the food! We did have a small problem with our room block. Our rate included parking and internet, but not all of the guests received the log-in information or parking vouchers at check-in. A quick follow-up with the check-in staff took care of this.

Overall, we had a great experience at the Sheraton. The staff is so nice and responsive. The facilities are beautiful, and the food is delicious!

The Sheraton was the perfect venue for the wedding because it is located in the heart of Raleigh and we had the majority of our guests traveling from out of town. The ceremony and reception were coordinated so that our guests could stay at the same hotel as the reception. The rooms were very nice with beautiful décor and were exceptionally clean. The ceremony room needed to be decorated by us because the pictures that they show on their website with white curtains and up-lighting cost about $4,000 extra. The food at both the cocktail hour and reception were excellent! Ana Garcia, who is the Social Sales Manager and contact for any questions or problems, was very caring, helpful and professional. She is a delight to work with and we will miss our frequent contacts with her. When you are planning a wedding, you want someone who answers you quickly and calms your anxiety with helpful advice. Ana was this person. If you decide on The Sheraton as your venue, Ana comes as a bonus.
The only complain we had was that the hotel is now under renovation of it's lobby, restaurant and main bar. We signed the contract sometime in December but were not told of the demolition which began on March 25th until March 21st. Ana began working at The Sheraton sometime around Feb/Mar. and helped us along with the management, through the anxiety that came with the news. I'm sure when the renovations are done, The Sheraton will be an excellent venue for your event.

The Sheraton staff is wonderful. I was one of the "lucky" brides that got married during the worst snow storm of 2010 in Raleigh on January 30. The Sheraton really stepped up to the plate and saved the day. Susan, Martha, and all of the Sheraton staff were EXTRA friendly and went above and beyond to make sure my wedding reception was a success. For example, we had a few vendors cancel the morning of the wedding due to the weather, including the limo bus. One of the Sheraton staff members took the time to call around to other limo services and find an alternative limo for my wedding party. Next thing I know, a hummer limo is sitting out front waiting to transport us in the snow from the Sheraton to the church. This is one small example of so many kind things done by the Sheraton staff to make sure our wedding reception was a success. Some of the staff even stayed at the Sheraton overnight to make sure they were available to help with our wedding reception. As for the rooms, we had over 70% of guests arrive from Maryland that Friday afternoon. Over 50 rooms were booked at the Sheraton for our guests. We did not hear one complaint. The rooms were great! To top it off, when my new husband and I headed up to our room for the evening, the staff had created a heart made out of rose petals on our bed along with champagne and a few snacks. It was great! A million thanks to the Sheraton for pulling off such an awesome event in such terrible weather. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

My mom wanted to do it all again the next weekend, and the next weekend, and the next weekend- that's how easy she made it! Martha was also wonderful. The food was incredible, the service was awesome, and Susan was available for ANY and EVERY thing I needed. I miss working so close with her now that it's over!

I cannot say enough great things about the Sheraton staff. We had a guest list that was comprised of about 85% out of town and each one of them commented to me about the amazing hospitality that they received during their stay for our wedding. Lauren DeAlto and her staff did an AMAZING job with our reception - I'm not sure if you can request a specific banquet captain but if you can ask for Lawrence Harris because he was fantastic and took great care of us and our guests!

Throughout the entire wedding planning phase Lauren was incredibly helpful to us. She was extremely patient & responsive with all of our questions (and we had A LOT of them!) We were definitely on a budget but we never felt pushed to exceed it and Lauren provided a lot of great insight on how to work within our budget so that we didn't have to compromise on any of the priority areas.

During the wedding weekend there were several other events going on (there were 3 other weddings during ours) but throughout the entire weekend I felt like we were Lauren's #1 priority and she was right there anytime we had any questions or needed her guidance.

We were beyond thrilled with our experience with the Sheraton and we will certainly be using them again for future events and vacation stays!

The Sheraton was a wonderful venue. We chose it for its location and ease for our guests.

Lauren was great to work with in booking the space early on, vendor referrals along the way, and rehearsal dinner/day-of coordination. She also orchestrated 2 tastings where their chef (a great guy) tweaked dishes for us. She was very flexible and worked with our vision.

The entire staff was very helpful and the banquet captains took excellent care of us during the reception and the day went smoothly. Lauren executed the plan we had created in detail and it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

We used the Sheraton for our hotel room blocks. With both familes comming in from out of town we secured 90 rooms for 2 nights. Even with this high number the hotel did not offer any sort of discounts to the bride and groom for their stay or for parking. We also hosted a farewell brunch at the Sheraton on Sunday after the wedding for 100 people. We spent a lot of money here and do not feel that it was appreciated or that we received excellent service. The contact for securing rooms was very unresponsive and often forgot to follow-up with our reqeusts. They also failed to tell us that there was a road race in front of the hotel the morning of the wedding! Everything worked out fine, but it was much more stress and work for the bride's family than necessary.

Overall very good experience. We didn't have the actual reception here, just used them for our hotel rooms as we had alot of out of town guests coming in. They upgraded us to a nice suite and we only one reservation that couldn't be found at first because the name was mispelled. The desk manager helped us get it sorted out quickly though. All of our gift bags got handed out as people checked in as requested, though we did end up being a few sort and I'm not sure why. They were flexible giving our guests a late checkout the next day which was nice.

Our wedding day was awesome! We couldn't have chosen a better venue. The ambiance was incredible and the food was delicious.

I only have one suggestion. When the wedding cake is being served, allow guests to come up to cake table instead of cake being placed at every setting. We had guests that didn't show and a piece of cake was placed at the seat, so we had some cake on tables that wasn't eatin.

The overall experience was exceptional. The only glitch in the weekend was getting out of the parking deck. The card reader would not work and we had to "borrow" a Wolfpack alum card to get out. The Sheraton Raleigh was the perfect location for our wedding. It is right in downtown so out of town guests who stay there have plenty to do within walking distance.

We had our reception in the Hannover Ballroom - which is all windows - so even though I had a day wedding in a hotel ballroom it was still sunny! (and AC-ed, which was important for a late June NC wedding!). We had the coordinator we were working with changed part way through the planning process but Susan (who ended up doing our wedding) was fantastic to work with and completely made sure everything I wanted happened. The Sheraton staff set everything up the day of so I did not have to worry about anything and they also have their own in house catering - so they provided the food. It was delicious!

I was so pleased and my guests complimented both the venue space and the how great the hotel was to stay in (we did our block there as well and Susan was in charge of the block and I received many compliments on how pleasant she was to work with from my guests).

We also did our after party there and my in-laws were quite pleased with the room we were able to use and the staff's assistance in setting up the room and the ability to have outside catering.

    I highly recommend the Sheraton!

We worked with Maite at the Raleigh Sheraton and she is AMAZING! A true professional and also has a great sense of humor. She really made us (bride & groom) her priority and ensured that everything went exactly as we envisioned it. Both sides of our family were from out of town so we had over 20 rooms booked at the hotel. Everyone really enjoyed the hotel itself as well as the location in downtown Raleigh. I would recommend the Sheraton as your reception site or wedding hotel to anyone.

We had a fun time, they did exactly what the bride wanted, and went above and beyond the next day for our guests.

I used the Sheraton for my ceremony and reception. There were a couple snags. The Sheraton forgot to book my room correctly and they messed up on the spelling of my dj's name leaving to several inconveniences. There is a new wedding coordinator named Joanie Waters who I highly recommend. She stepped up to the plate and fixed everything that needed to be fixed. Overall my day was amazing. I would recommend the Sheraton but keep in mind things may go wrong as they do in all weddings but Joanie will be able to fix it and make your day wonderful.

Working with the Sheraton was great. It was a little frustrating at first due to communication problems, but after speaking with the meeting manager, Susan, everything went smoothly. She was accomodating & very excited & passionate about helping us plan our wedding. Thanks Susan.

Beautiful reception - a little more attention could have been paid to making sure the timing of things is spot on. Could have been because there was a new coordinator working there at the time. But, overall the reception was perfect and beautiful.

    Good, but......

Lauren was great with helping me plan my special day and was really a sounding board for me. However, the day of the wedding, some things did occur. My bridal party as well as my husband and and I, were promised the appetizers that were served during the cocktail hour. When my bridal party received the appetizers, it was luncheon meats (not the shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs, and hot crab dip) and it arrived when dinner was being served. The food was still in the room, after the wedding and it began to stink. My bridal party requested that the food be disposed of several times but no one came. I requested for the deviled eggs to be topped with have half bacon and half candied jalapenos (because I knew that my guests and wedding party didn't eat pork), however the ones served were topped with bacon. I was told that when guests went back for seconds, the food was gone.

My wedding occurred during Hurricane Michael and a lot of guests did not come because of the Hurricane. However, we could not get the money back for plates that were paid for (half of your guests didn't show up). I feel as though, if a natural disaster happens, a certain amount of money should be refunded, that is not the couples's fault. Overall, the wedding was nice but there would be some things I would change, looking back.

Service itself was great, but there have been some financial issues: additional charges that we were not supposed to have. We have had to follow up multiple times to resolve this issue. Issue remains unresolved. Also, multiple reservations for our wedding guests were lost or not ready. Most problems were on the reservations end, not on the catering side. We were pleased with the catering manager, Lauren and their services.

    Breakdown in communication

I booked the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel for my 2022 wedding in 2020. I understand that some of our issues came from the pandemic, but most would have been avoided with better communication.
there were a lot of things that ended up being great about our day, I'll start with those.
    - The food was excellent; we had the royal buffet, and all the guests were happy with the choices available
    - The ceremony fee was waived since we booked so far ahead as well as a few other add-ons
    - The transition from cocktail hour to reception was fairly seamless
    - The bartenders and servers were great (Shout out to Timothy who set everything up himself AND was an awesome bartender)
During the planning process everything had gone relatively smoothly until about 4 months before the wedding.
    - Hotel Block -
Having booked our wedding 2+ years out we set up a block with the sales office about a year out from the wedding. We signed a contract that said we would have to guarantee 80% of the rooms, but it would be no problem to add more rooms later if we needed them. Being so far out we agreed but lowballed a little on the rooms, just to be on the safe side. We are both from out of state so we knew we would need quite a few rooms but not sure how many as the invitations hadn't gone out yet.
Fast-forward to 4 months before the wedding, we are getting calls from family members saying there are no more room available. Not big deal, right? Wrong. When I called the sales office to add rooms they told me the entire hotel was sold out, no reason, just that they were sold out. After scouring downtown Raleigh for other hotels, we find out that the Bluegrass Festival had blocked out all the other rooms in the vicinity. Why they didn't tell me that was the case I don't know.
    - Communication –
Generally, staff here were hard to get a hold of. Voicemails and emails were sometimes left unanswered, or half answered.
During the tasting we found out that prices for food had gone up a significant amount, we were able to get a slight adjustment, but our original price list was not honored.
I had to send every document back to be corrected and even after billing received the correct documents, they still charged us the wrong amount.
    - Rehearsal Dinner -
We had planned on having our rehearsal dinner at Jimmy V's in the lobby the night before the wedding, had a reservation and everything. Bluegrass festival strikes again. Jimmy V's calls and tell us that they can't accommodate us but will work with the hotel to get us a banquet room free of charge since it was their fault for booking us that day.
Long story short, my Mother-in-law and Future Husband got the run around for 3 days before I had to step in and put my foot down to get us settled for the rehearsal dinner. which ended up being in the room we were supposed to get ready in the next day (this is important later)

    - Set up –
Set up here was a nightmare. I was under the impression that we were going to be able to set up some things the night before but when we got there our ball room was still set from an event earlier in the day. I thought to myself "that's fine, I will just get here early there isn't too much to do." When I arrived at 8AM nothing had been done. They had only 1 person working on tear down and set up for the whole weekend.
Neither of the Hospitality rooms that we were promised were ready when we got there. There were dirty tablecloths still in the bridal suite, the groom suite was being used as storage for a wedding the next day and they had to move them last minute. There were no mirrors!
We had planned on starting photos at 1:30PM as I had outlined in my day of timeline for the catering manager (in charge of getting everything set up) tables weren't set until 11:30 nor was the aisle set up. The groom had to wrangle the person who was supposed to help this day go smoothly as well as his groomsmen and get ready since I was getting ready by the time anything was ready for decorations to be set up. My Husband relayed to me that they did not follow the set-up plan and he had to have them change out several tables to make sure there was enough seating. Meanwhile, every time the catering manager passed me in the hallway, she was asking questions that I had already answered.
    - Teardown –
the cherry on top of this whole run around from the catering manager, was that we were rushed out of the room at 9:00 so that she could set up the wedding for the next day.

Regrettable experience on a day you cannot get back

You are going to want to have time to sit and read through this, it’s a long one, and you’ll want to read to the end if you are even slightly considering Sheraton Raleigh for your wedding reception. I am warning you now – don’t book Sheraton, and here are all the reasons!
To start, if you are looking for a wedding and/or wedding reception in downtown Raleigh (truly downtown, not just ITB), you are somewhat limited, especially if you are looking in the month of December as we were. There are only a couple hotels downtown, and Sheraton has every advantage here with brick and metal charm, great sized reception rooms, and maximum convenience. We contracted with a catering manager in April that soon after left and were given a new catering manager in June or July. By that time, I started experiencing issues as I was trying to coordinate with various vendors and was receiving no response at worst and half answered emails at best. It took several follow-ups to get the information I needed to coordinate with other vendors. This was a theme throughout setting the menu and even my day of wedding coordinator encountered when she stepped in to attempt to coordinate final details amongst the various vendors that would be involved in the day. I will tell you now that wedding planning is stressful enough and there are a lot of details to work out, you do not want a venue that you constantly have to run down for information or provide partially answered emails.
Reservation Issues: Our extended family, in particular, had a difficult time booking in our wedding block and when they attempted to call to correct it, the front desk staff was unapologetically rude and unhelpful. As the wedding couple, we took over getting the situation resolved, and even ourselves encountered several back-and-forth emails to get some movement on fixing the issue and making sure it was done correctly. Even with it all supposedly fixed (including a reservation number to confirm!), my husband’s mom found herself without a room reserved on the day she came into town. Worse than that, we found out the week of the wedding that WE, THE BRIDE AND GROOM, DIDN’T HAVE RESERVATIONS (this comes in the standard contract)! To Sheraton’s (more like, Cy at the front desk) credit, they did give us very nice suites and even though our suites for the night doubled as the getting ready rooms, they were MUCH nicer accommodations than the typical getting ready rooms. Be warned that Sheraton considers small conference rooms on the third floor as sufficient/appropriate getting ready rooms and the downside of these rooms is that you don’t necessarily get to hang out with your bridal party throughout the morning. It’s not comfortable or nicely furnished, it’s just like going down for a hair appointment and then going back up to your room. For some, this may not be a detractor, but I wanted lots of fun photos.
Set up for the Reception Issues: Sheraton was 6 hours behind on setting up the tables with linens, causing delays for our lighting/drapery vendors and most impactful our florist! We had the reception space closed off to guests during the cocktail hour, and we were able to see it before everyone came in. While we were walking around, mere minutes from the doors to the reception opening, the Sheraton staff were still putting final touches on everything.
Reception: Now the reception… Catering never brought appetizers to us during cocktail hour - we received cold appetizers from the wedding coordinator who learned near the end of cocktail hour that this was not done. Catering staff serving the appetizers did not know what they were serving and were consistently telling guests who asked “I don’t know” without offering to find out. As we had several guests with severe food allergies this was not acceptable and one guest in particular was told he was being served “maybe mushroom something with cheese” when in fact the appetizer contained crab meat which the guest was highly allergic to and did have to take emergency medication. The bar wasn’t stocked with the correct beer selections until after cocktail hour was over – we had a drink menu we had planned with the catering manager, who was supposedly coordinating with the food and beverage director, so this shouldn’t have happened. Once the correct beers were brought to the bar, the bartenders served those beers to guests warm as they had not been iced down (great – because everyone loves warm beer 😐). We had even done quite a bit of coordination with a local craft brewery to serve a special beer because that craft brewery was where we had our first date. Sheraton told us they could work with them to get the beers, we did all the leg work, and this beer never made an entrance at our wedding, frustratingly enough. Furthermore, even though we had purchased an upgraded liquor package, they couldn’t accommodate basic signature drinks within that package, so they had to charge us full price for each signature drink. We put a cap on the amount of signature drinks that we expected to take us through the cocktail hour only and that was fine. The bartenders were under the impression that the whole bar was turning into a cash bar once the signature drink cap was reached. We don’t know if they were correctly accounting for signature drinks or including other liquor drinks that would have been included in the liquor package, but worst of all, they started COMMUNICATING TO GUESTS that it was a cash bar after cocktail hour! We paid for an upgraded liquor package, and instead they started charging our guests – and we don’t know how many guests paid cash before this was corrected. How EMBARRASSING! Ultimately, many guests found the signature drinks too sweet and undrinkable – we found both of them embarrassingly poor quality and I’m glad it ran out at cocktail hour. The bar also ran out of glassware and had to switch to plastic cups less than halfway through the event – some guests told us it was comical not knowing what glassware they were going to receive next and in what they chose to serve certain drinks and what the bar staff would even tell them was available with as many different changes were made on the fly that night. Servers had to be asked several times to clear the empty salad plates from the guest tables, then they tried to stack the plates from the guests tables instead of just having the guests bring them up with them (health code violation), they weren’t providing forks to guests after the cake cutting, and put the cake on disposable plates instead of real plates. Sheraton’s response was that “real dishes aren’t available”. They even left the top of our wedding cake to sit out during the reception, instead of boxing it up. Essentially, the staff was standing around not serving guests throughout the night and had to constantly be told to help clear items and provide items to guests. The buffet was delayed in getting set up, food had to be sent back multiple times because it wasn’t cooked properly, incorrect menu items came out, and there were multiple times the buffet line was at a standstill because items on the buffet were empty and replenishments weren’t coming out of the kitchen in a timely manner. The buffet ran out of food before some of our vendors received meals, so they had to go purchase meals elsewhere. Most impactful to me was the missed photography and videography opportunities because my timeline had to be adjusted mid-reception - I had to miss a sparkler send off photo op and had to rush through the cake cutting to salvage the last of their time. I wasn’t able to make rounds to all the tables sufficiently either during the dinner hour because of all the issues we continued to experience once the buffet did get set up, and I hated missing guests who came to see us!

Summary: Leading up to the wedding day, when the catering manager kept forgetting menu details and decisions, I thought it was just because they host so many events and that was why I wasn’t getting sufficient attention during the planning process, but once my event was coming up, I would. I gave Sheraton the benefit of the doubt that they could execute an event and now I regret that as I’m currently left with the regret of wishing I had managed them differently so that I could have even received a standard level of performance. We had put in so much time and energy into planning a beautiful reception – and it was – but it could have been a magical night for all, with plenty of video and photos of the reception, and wonderful stories being recounted afterwards instead of hearing bits of various feedback from guests about Sheraton’s service. Overall, the experience with Sheraton was regrettable and because of all the service and menu items we had not received, they had compensated us with a discount on our final bill. For your wedding day, this is not the position you want to be in as no discount will ever compensate for a day you can never redo.
