Rye Beach's Best Photographer
My wife and I decided last minute to get married 4th of July at her family beach house in Wallis Sands. Despite the short notice and cold beach weather, Shawn was able to take on the task and ended up capturing the most amazing photos of our wedding. We appreciated her ability to capture the great candid moments, as well as instruct us how to pose whenever necessary. My husband and I had Shawn as our wedding photographer. She was great to work with! She’s super organized, easy to get in contact with, and her prices are fair. Shawn took such beautiful photos of our wedding. We had the elements against us as it was absolutely pouring and gloomy out, but the photos were so stunning and romantic you couldn't even tell! She was a dream to work with, fun and talented! She was so great at helping us feel natural and relaxed. Her and her second photographer were so great at being discreet while still capturing the special moments. Thank you so much Shawn!! :)Shawn took such beautiful photos of our wedding. Finding our wedding photographer was at the top of our list and we took our time researching. We were looking for someone who had, an incredible eye, someone who could truly capture different "moments" as they unfolded and someone who would be easy (and fun!) to work with on our "Big Day." We were also looking for someone who would be flexible and work with our budget and someone who took the time to go over our photo list and talk about our "vision." Shawn Tomkinson was the person we were looking for and I would highly recommend her to any bride-to-be! Her work speaks for itself and she was a calming influence. Other than making AMAZING photographs, Shawn Tomkinson Photography stands out to me for many reasons. First, Shawn has over 20 years of professional experience as a photographer and she has photographed hundreds of unique and beautiful events up and down the East Coast. Shawn is a well-seasoned photographer that you can trust to capture your most important memories. I simply ADORE the priceless photos she took for me!
~ Second, Shawn is a full-time photographer and business owner. These days, most photographers have other jobs and use photography as a part-time or weekend gig to make some extra money. Photography is Shawn’s ONLY business and her greatest PASSION, so all of her attention can be devoted to YOU! ~ Third, Shawn completes ALL work herself, start to finish! Nowadays many photographers outsource their editing (and sometimes even their shooting!). After she shoots an event like a wedding, Shawn probably spends at least 20 hours color correcting, retouching and editing the photos. There certainly is not enough I could say about the beautiful work of Shawn Tomkinson. Our relationship began 11 years ago when after interviewing about 20 wedding photographers, I feel in love with her photo journalistic style. Looking at sample photos of weddings that Shawn shot, I could tell that she was going to be able to capture those special moments with raw emotion and she did just that. I can't just pick one favorite picture that Shawn took of my wedding because they are all so beautiful, but she captured a special one of my husband and I when we were peeking into the function hall all decorated and ready to make our grand entrance. It's that attention to detail, that makes Shawn an amazing photographer. Shawn is much more than a photographer, she is a part of our little story in life. She has not just photographed our start in life with our engagement and wedding, but she has photographed our family as it has grown through the years. She has this ability to capture those moments when we are being a silly little family giggling at one another or when my girls are playing in the sand while they think no one is looking. The photographs that Shawn has provided me over the years are my MOST most treasured possessions. Each time she sends the link with my next session photos, it is like Christmas morning. There isn't enough I can say about how much I appreciate her artistry, non-obtrusive manner and attention to detail. My wife and I couldn't be happier with Shawn's work on (and before and after) our wedding day.
We were initially impressed with her no-nonsense consultation when she dove right into the details of the wedding planning. She was one of the first wedding vendors we spoke with, and fortunately she was patient and thorough in her consultation, going through many points that we hadn't even thought about yet.
On the day itself, she was flexible and in-charge. She got tons of great shots of our ceremony (finding all the nooks and crannies in the church that we had hoped she would) and had wedding party and family photos taken in great time (due to great planning and to her efficiency). She was comfortable, too, though. It was easy to smile the whole time because she was friendly and kind while keeping the process moving. She's a clear pro.
The final results were everything we had hope they would be. There are beautiful candid shots of family and friends at both the ceremony and reception, fun spontaneous shots, and some really beautiful shots (like...blow it up and hang it over the mantle, beautiful) of my wife and me.
We would highly suggest Shawn to engaged couples looking for honest, fun, beautiful wedding photos. Even if you're a photographer (like my wife) or just picky (like me) you'll love the experience.My wife and I couldn't be happier with Shawn's work on (and before and after) our wedding day.

Shawn was our photographer for our wedding in May 2012 at the BVI and we really enjoyed working with her. We were able to work with her in advance to identify the formal shots that we wanted to take, as well as to give her an idea of the nature and feel of our wedding. She also asked us if we wanted to use a second shooter (which we did decide to do for part of the day) and they worked really well together to get some great photos. The formal shots went really smoothly and quicker than I was expecting so we were able to enjoy part of the cocktail hour with our guests. Shawn was amazing. I couldn't love my photos more. The day was documented perfectly. The photos tell the story of our day in a beautiful way. Shawn was very professional and yet could still joke with our very laid back, goofy wedding party.
She was everywhere and captured everything I wanted...even though I hardly saw her throughout the night! My guests and wedding party had nothing but wonderful things to say about her.
Being a photographer myself, I have a very critical eye. Every bride wants great photos, but I would say my standards are a bit higher then the average person. The way she captures the moments and the emotions is near perfection. I would HIGHLY recommend her.

Shawn did a wonderful job photographing our wedding day. She had very creative ideas and was very thorough with responding to my requests. I highly recommend her to other brides. I was first drawn to Shawn for her casual, photojournalistic style based on her website. She exceeded my expectations. My photos are the perfect memory of our wedding day and I am happy to have so many as the day was such a blur.
Shawn's was very easy going but managed to control my 14 person bridal party and get great group shots. Even the "organized' photos have a very casual feel which I love because posed photos always look phony to me.

Shawn was a great wedding photographer. She is not your typical posed wedding photographer. She captured amazing moments that turned out to be some of our favorite pictures. She was so nice (though a tad opinionated on some things, but then again so am I). We had her and another of her colleagues to take both color and black and white pictures. We still get compliments on the pictures they took. I wish they had stayed until the end of the wedding. She was quick and good at getting a large wedding party with children to get a great picture.
