Michael was awesome! He was responsive and answered my questions throughout the whole process.
He was very much “In the background” at the wedding, but was able to capture all our special moments.
He was friendly and kept me laughing in some of the odd down times (walking to take pictures). He worked well with my photographer and worked around my crazy, dancing guests.

He was a great value for the footage we will be receiving. I can’t wait to see the video!

It was everything we expected and very pleased. Michael was very present but very unassuming. No big paparazzi fanfare to take away from the moments. Worked very well with photographer. Offers a 45 min documentary as well as 3 min trailer. That was very hard to find with a reasonable price. Very good value.

Food is amazing, prices are reasonable. I wen to an event that they catered for and I think it was really good.

Jim is an amazing chef and knows how to make many dishes. His food is so excellent that my sister is wants to use him for wedding but she doesn't live here. I would recommend him to anyone for any price range and diet. He had a very ranged menu for all our picky eaters. He was very involved to make sure our food was served correctly and fresh as we had an outside wedding.

Michael was such a pleasure to work with! We actually had to move our wedding up 3 months due to a family emergency and he was more than happy to be flexible and for that, we will forever be grateful. He was so fun to work with and was the perfect fit for my husband and I. It did take about 5-6 months to get the video, but that was in his contract from the beginning. After seeing the video, I would wait 6 months all over again. It was totally worth it. He captured everything perfectly. Thank you, Michael!!

Our event was held at their Kyle House venue and everything was absolutely perfect. From the beginning Jim was very involved with us in picking a menu and making sure we were happy with it. We were able to do a tasting at home which allowed us to be comfortable as we tasted. The day of the wedding we were able to eat a little! But the entire evening everyone kept telling us how good the food was. The staff was friendly and courteous and attended to everything we needed. And after the reception they had extra food packaged up for us so we could still try everything the guests did!

Mike did an amazing job for us at our wedding in June! We haven't yet received our video, but I just wanted to comment on the professionalism Mike showed during our wedding. Even though our wedding day did not exactly go according to plan, due to weather, Mike was extremely helpful in keeping our wedding reception going smoothly. He kept us all upbeat and continued to record our truly special evening. I cannot wait to see the final video!

The food and the venue was absolutely perfect. We got married at the Kyle House and could not have dreamed of a more perfect day. Everyone raved about the food saying, "it was the best wedding food I have ever had. I kept going up for more!" You do not get a more romantic or breathtakingly beautiful venue when it comes to the Kyle House. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose Schaals and the Kyle House again and again. Thanks for the perfect day!

Michael and his team are amazing! They were extremely professional and easy to work with. Before we made the decision to hire a videographer, I was worried that it might seem intrusive at the wedding or that people wouldn't want to be filmed. They were not intrusive AT ALL (later a few of our guests said "oh, you had a videographer? I didn't even notice"). They were so friendly and patient on the day of our wedding. After the wedding, Michael stayed in touch with us while he worked on the videos. We chose to have both a full length and a cinematic (shorter) film made. We could not be happier with the quality of both films. We are amazed at how Michael and his team were able to capture each moment/detail and then edit everything so perfectly. The music for the cinematic film is exactly what we wanted. I cry every time I watch it. I can't believe that at some point I thought we might not have a videographer- now I realize that it was one of the best decisions we made. Starring You is very reasonably priced, and they even came to Arlington, VA for us on fairly short notice. We highly recommend them!

Working with Starring You Productions was one of my best experiences throughout wedding planning. They listened to everything that I hoped I would get out of my videos and gave me exactly that. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is seeking a videographer! Every special moment of the day was captured on film. We will treasure our wedding video forever!

These guys are flipping fantastic! We haven't gotten our video yet, but I didn't even realize they were at the wedding. They are a husband and wife team who are super kind and very professional! I would rate them higher if I could. By all means, if you are going to get a videographer (and you should) get them. They are wonderful!

Jim Schaal has made a reputation for himself in the Roanoke Valley. We had heard many different reviews before meeting Jim, and weren’t sure what to expect. He is a vendor who is direct, and who lets his many years of experience guide his conversations. At first, we found ourselves in a whirlwind of information, but the more we got to know Jim, the more we appreciated his candor and his expertise. He worked with us on menu, even cooking recipes that we had sent to him that we wanted on our special day. Not that this bride got to eat, but I did hear from everyone how phenomenal the food was for our June wedding. We didn’t expect to see Jim on the day, since he had other events going on, but he was there taking pictures. As the final person I saw before walking down the aisle, he made sure to let me know how great I looked, and to enjoy the evening ahead. We were so happy that we made the choice to go with the best caterer in town!

I have to say that hiring Starring You Productions was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding day. The films are amazing, and far surpassed my expectations. Starring You is professional and the work was completed on the exact date that the contract stated and they are very quick with responses.
Videography was the last thing on my wedding list. I wasn't sure that I needed it and I couldn't decide if the cost was worth it. I did a lot of debating with myself and didn’t tell my fiancé until the day that we were meeting to sign the contract :). I decided that you only get one chance to capture the most important day that you have dreamed about your whole life. When the link to the completed films came in, I was completely blown away. It was worth every penny to recapture the moments that you missed during the wedding. I was able to go back and see everything and everyone from the most important day in my life. Your wedding day goes by so fast and you miss so much, with the video I can see it again whenever I want !!!
I can’t say enough great things about my videos and Starring You Productions. My favorite and most important part is the wedding highlight. I watched it over and over again the first day that I received the link and cried every time. The wedding highlight is such a special way to capture the day, and to be able to share it with people in a 3 minute clip. I will refer Starring you to everyone that I know. Truly a wonderful company to work with and I have an amazing film for the rest of my life!

Starring You Productions did a wonderful job filming, editing and producing the video of our daughter's wedding reception. Although they must have taken a lot of footage to produce such a memorable video, they were very considerate and unobtrusive during the reception. They were courteous, friendly and very professional. I would highly recommend them for wedding videography!

Everyone told me that my wedding day would pass by so quickly that I wouldn't remember anything, and they were correct. However Michael and Karleen did the best job in capturing all of the highlights of our wedding. The wedding videos were much better than I could have even imagined. Watching the videos were wonderful because there were so many details about the day that I did not remember. Plus, the way it was packaged on video was so fun and energetic! It truly was like watching a movie, with us as the stars. Everyone (family and friends) that have watched our videos were more than impressed. We are so thankful to have used Starring You Productions because the quality of the videos were so much more than we could have hoped for. Not to mention that Michael and Karleen are extremely nice and professional to work with. They melted right in with our wedding party. THANK YOU for everything!!!

Their staff is responsive, professional, and pays attention to details.
Jim's menu gave us a fabulous selection of delicious food throughout the evening. Presentation of food is beautiful! He can work within your budget. The Hunting Hills Country Club venue is absolutely wonderful. There is all new comfortable furniture . . . many seating arrangements . . . provides many spaces for comfortable visiting/eating in addition to the dining area. We had the largest dance floor area available which was great for our dancing crowd. Outside wedding on patio . . . beautiful with forest backdrop. Inside reception space was teriffic! Felt pricing was very reasonable.

The Schaals were absolutely wonderful to work with at the Kyle House. They made sure to cater to our needs at all times--we weren't sure about the table linens so they offered to purchase new ones because they liked our color scheme. They were always easy to work with and made the wedding a breeze. The food was also delicious!

We love this teams style! They make a memorable film, not just chronological video of our event. Mike and Karleen are so loving and fun to work with. They made me laugh all day! I just loved it. Even if your camera shy like my new hubby...they put you right at ease and make you forget all about the cameras! Can't wait to see our final footage!

My wife and I loved working with Mike and Karleen of Starring You Films. As a husband and wife videography duo, they just get it! My wife still remembers the day she first spoke with Mike and how passionate he sounded about his line of work. On the day of the wedding, we hardly knew they were there. We've received our wedding highlight which blew us (along with our family and friends) away! The quality of the film as well as the music selections were perfect.

To think we almost missed out on getting our wedding filmed because we thought all videographers were in your face with bright lights and interview your guests. Not this team, they are true artists!

Starring You is awesome and gives you the best quality Film! Before I was even engaged I had already researched that they would be my vendors when it was time for me to get married. I watched Starring You movies online and every movie was unique and so special. I loved the moments they caught for the couples. About 6 months or so before my Wedding I met with Mike and he was such a pleasure to work with. He was always calm and never pushy. He was always so attentive and professional about what we wanted in our movie. Him and his wife did such a great job depicting our Wedding Day. My Wedding was Greek and Armenian, so we had some traditions we do during the ceremony and they went above and beyond delivering it through the movie. Starring You has different packages and I needed filming to start from when I was getting ready to get dressed to ceremony to the reception. He caught all the special moments and after watching the movie I do not think they missed a thing! The quality is great too! I loved watching my trailer before getting the movie. Both took you back to your wedding day. The music he uses, the speeches, the small things we said during the day all come together so beautifully. Family and friends are so impressed and loved watching it. My nephews (ringbearers) think they are movie stars, which I think is cute but you actually do feel like it is a real movie and not a documentary.
Also, after booking with them and knowing that my Vendors have worked with Starring You made me feel so much more comfortable. They have a great reputation in Richmond. Everyone I worked with, flowers, photogrpahy, reception site and lighting all knew him. It is also very important that the photographer know and have worked with the Videographer so things can blend well for you (in my opinion).
Lastly, I never felt that Starring You was intruding on my day. The last thing I wanted was a camera in my face while I am talking with guests or dancing. But in the Movie they got all of that without me feeling uncomfortable. I have been to many wedding where a Videographer is way to up close to the couple.

Starring You has great quality. They take pride in their work and make it so special for you. You will have happy tears after watching your movie...it still gets me everytime. Thank You so much Starring You!!

Schaals venue the Kyle House in Fincastle VA was absolutely perfect for my intimate (about 45) guest wedding. I know they are working towards making it an all inclusive wedding venue, but it really already is. Little to no decor is necessary. We decorated with dried flowers and I had my own centerpieces made but if I didn't they have basic centerpieces available included! They included linens, all the dishes/glassware etc. They even had a cake stand that was absolutely perfect for us. Dealing with Amanda and Kellie was a wonderful experience and the food was phenomenal. I planned the wedding long distance so did the majority of everything via e-mail and it was nice that I got responses quickly. I only wish we would of added a bottle of liquor and a case of beer that we chose to the bar---and we did have that option, we just never got around to it. They are so willing to work with you on whatever you prefer for your big day!

Lights, camera, action! If you prefer the 'best' over 'just average' and want to capture your wedding day in the most memorable way possible, then Starring You Productions is the videography vendor for you. I discovered Mike on line while planning my wedding. I knew I didn't want the same old run of the mill wedding video that I wouldn’t want to watch 20 years from here. However, I knew I still wanted to capture every second of my day in a way that I could relive it whenever my husband and I wanted to share it. Mike and his team took our vision and personalities in consideration and magically edited our wedding video into a movie premier! The lights, camera, action feel gives you this personal touch unlike any other. Mike definitely has a gift in capturing the special moments down to his selection of music for each scene. I love the movie trailer, movie posters, and rolling credits with our wedding party names! All so worth every penny. I have to also share when Mike was filming our wedding I never felt like he was in the way as you see most video guys. Mike and his team were seamless blending in with our guest and working well with our photographer. Starring You Productions is top notch and I am so thankful for the service and our wedding movie! My husband and I still get so excited watching it over and over. We even had a premier party to show our family and friends. Great product and service!

We had a morning wedding on a glorious fall Sunday in October. We wanted to do something a little different and ended doing heavy hors d'oeuvres with brunch elements. Sweet Potato Turkey biscuits, sausage rolls, yogurt, granola,fruit,cheddar grits with shrimp and so many other amazing items. Our guests just loved the food! We also had our wedding at their property The Kyle House and it was awesome. ( Note: if you are looking for that rustic vibe but you aren't DIY creative check out The Kyle House it comes already decorated and has that rustic romantic charm. The chapel next door where ceremony happens is a magical place as well!)Guests loved loved loved the venue and food. Jim and Amanda were so helpful and kind. Make sure you know what you want though! Jim is very professional but has his ideas about what should/would work. So either go prepared with all ideas or be open to hearing what could be done differently. They helped us work out our timelines and made sure their staff was on the same page with what we wanted. I could reach Amanda at any time by email. She was on the ball with emails and phone calls. Overall the wedding was perfect and we couldn't be happier.

I booked Schaal's catering for my wedding in July. I had heard great things about them, and I was very pleased that Jim Schaal was able to work with me and my tight budget. We decided on heavy hors d'oeuvres since the reception was scheduled for later in the evening. Jim was incredibly helpful even before we officially signed a contract. He recommended a photographer for us, he gave us some tips about timing of our wedding, and he tried to help us save money on things that we hadn't thought about before. Something really nice about Schaal's is that they offer their own linens for rental for only $10 per linen (this is only to pay for cleaning). If you don't know much about wedding planning, this is a great deal! It was also nice to not have to worry about an additional vendor; it was included in my catering.

For the most part, everything was wonderful! The food was good; the shrimp and grits was absolutely AWESOME (a fan favorite!), and there was plenty of food even though it was just heavy hors d'oeuvres. The staff was very attentive, and the bar tender did a great job! We had decided to add these little chicken and waffle skewers to our menu because 1) we love chicken and waffles and 2) we thought it would be a unique touch for our wedding. However, they were disappointing. They were dry and cold when they came out. Overall, everything was wonderful; we were just a little disappointed by this little detail. I also gave four out of five stars on responsiveness because there were times when I had a hard time getting some questions answered via email. They were answered eventually, and everything worked out, but I felt that it was worth mentioning. So, overall, everything ran smoothly, the food was good, and the staff was courteous and professional. I appreciate Schaal's willingness to work within our tight budget and putting out a good product.

I used Mike at Starring You for my December 2015 wedding. I would say he did a great job, because I barely even saw him! I was able to take advantage of a promotion he was holding, because otherwise I do not believe I would have been able to fit in the services to my budget. Average turn around for the edited footage is 24 weeks, so I will be anxiously awaiting the film. Mike did email me promptly after the wedding to explain the editing process and timeline.

They did a great job with our wedding video, we were both pleased with the final outcome. Karleen shot the video at our wedding with her assistant, both were super professional and worked well with all of our other vendors. If you are thinking about dropping some money to get video of your special day do it, it is worth it and these people are awesome as advertised.
