Where to even begin when it comes to Sarah Houston…

Probably one of the hardest vendors to book (photography wise) but with Sarah, the decision was the easiest part of the whole wedding planning process for us.
Not only is her work absolutely stunning but as a person, Sarah will be your advocate, confidant, and one the greatest resources that you will be fortunate to have if you book with her.
From start to finish her communication, recommendations, and ability to truly capture you and your partner is FLAWLESS. My husband is very uncomfortable in front of the camera but all of that changed once we met with Sarah at our engagement session and got to experience first hand the magic she creates. You would never even know there was a moment of discomfort. Her gift of photography goes well beyond just snapping a picture, she literally makes you feel so comfortable and confident while at the same time creating heirloom photos to enjoy for the years to come. One of the greatest gifts I have ever received are these images from our engagement and wedding. When I tell you people stop in their tracks and constantly complement our photos, I am truly being so serious.
We are forever indebted to her for capturing not only our love story but for honoring our parents, (some here and some gone), our beautiful families, and all of our friends!
I find myself almost daily stopping to scroll through the HUGE wedding gallery she created ( in under ONE week after our wedding I might add) to reminisce on such a special day. You are not just getting an insanely talented, rhinestone of a human when you book with Sarah, you are getting so much more. I think I spent more one on one time with Sarah on the day of the wedding than other family members LOL. She was there for every touch up, panic, tear, hair crisis, and more. I am so lucky to have gained such a special relationship with her throughout this process. I can’t wait to work with her for SO MANY years to come.

If I could give Sarah Houston a million stars, I would.
From the moment we booked her, Sarah became so much more than just a photographer—she was a cheerleader, a calming presence, a creative partner, and ultimately a friend. She has an incredible gift for making people feel seen, celebrated, and at ease, and it shows in every single image she captures.
Planning a wedding while living abroad came with unique challenges, and Sarah went above and beyond—truly above and beyond—to make sure we still had everything we envisioned. Knowing we couldn’t do a traditional engagement session, she offered to sneak in a quick portrait shoot before our welcome party, even picking us up from our hotel and driving us to the most beautiful photo spots at UVA in 95° heat. Somehow, she made us feel completely relaxed and had us belly laughing the whole time—no small feat, considering my husband and I are not naturally comfortable in front of a camera.
Sarah is also a master at finding the best, most meaningful photo opportunities. She has such an eye—not only did she scout gorgeous, unexpected spots at both UVA and our venue, but she also captured all the tiny, sentimental details that mattered most to us. Her portraits are breathtaking, but her candids from the reception are just as magical—joyful, emotional, and full of life.
What sets Sarah apart even more is the heart she puts into everything. She friended me on Instagram when we first connected and has been the ultimate hype girl ever since. She made us feel like we were her only clients, always thoughtful, responsive, and invested in our vision. On our wedding day, she and her second shooter (an amazing option to add!) worked seamlessly to document every moment from multiple angles. She meshed beautifully with our families and friends and somehow struck the perfect balance of being in command when needed while making every moment feel fun and natural.
Hiring Sarah was one of the best decisions we made during our wedding planning process. She will remind you of the love between you, help you soak in the most meaningful moments, and turn those memories into timeless art. Do not hesitate—book her immediately. She is truly one of a kind! -

If you have the opportunity to work with Sarah for your wedding (or in any capacity) - do not hesitate!! I stalked Sarah’s photos long before I was even engaged (guilty) and knew that I wanted her to document our biggest day based on the genuine joy that radiates through her photos of her couples.
We took our engagement photos a year out from our wedding, and Sarah immediately helped my husband and I feel at ease and comfortable in front of the camera. She could tell I was a bit anxious, but quickly Sarah felt like an old friend and had us laughing/enjoying ourselves. We had an overcast morning at dawn at the Jefferson Memorial, and our photos were magical (and ready SO QUICKLY).
Sarah went above and beyond to help me/us feel loved and supported leading up to the wedding, even burying some bourbon (and Red Bull!) given some unfortunate weather forecasts week of - we didn’t see a drop of rain, thanks Sarah 😉 Day of the wedding, Sarah was so much more than a photographer. She was a calming presence from the second I arrived at the venue with my bridal party and our moms, and stepped in to do so much more than take photos - buttoned all of the buttons lining the back of my dress, gently navigated family members (old and young), carried backup snacks in case of low blood sugar (hello, Type 1 Diabetes), bustled my dress, and snapped Polaroids as a cherished memento all while simultaneously capturing the most beautiful photos. And that’s just the start of it! My husband dislocated his kneecap during our first dance (couldn’t make this up if I tried), and our photos post-injury were a bit of a sweaty mess on our end - you would NEVER know from the images. Sarah was behind the scenes helping to move us comfortably, to wipe the sweat from my husband’s head with a bar rag (gross, so sorry Sarah), to fix his hair because of said sweat, and to pick the lint off his tux - her smile and laughter never faltering despite this hot mess of a couple. Somehow, she even found a way to make my husbands sneaks paired with his tux pants on the dance floor look cool 😉
Sarah would do anything to make her brides/couples happy and to ensure the perfect photos - absolutely take the time to talk with her before your big day, because she will go to all lengths to make sure she documents and preserves the moments and details that are most important to you, big and small. Her photos are art, and raw beauty in frame-able form. When we got our sneaks back (night of the wedding!!!) it took us days to pick our jaws up off the floor. We could not believe it was us or our day, in the best way possible. Our friends/family have commented nonstop about our photos being the most beautiful they have ever seen. We will cherish the photos we have from our wedding thanks to Sarah, and they are the closest thing possible to being able to go back to these joyful moments and the best night of our life and freeze time. We could not have trusted another photographer with our day and our hearts, and recommend Sarah wholeheartedly to any couple hoping for the same - you will *not* be disappointed, and it will be one of the best decisions you make for your wedding! -

You can stop looking — BOOK SARAH NOW! She is an absolute gem.
From our very first call, it was evident that Sarah has unmatched passion and enthusiasm for what she does. She is a consummate professional, making sure we stayed on timeline and got all the photos we requested (and then some). She even stayed up late after our wedding to send us sneak peek pictures — which were so fun to look through as we ended the night.
She perfectly blended some of our ideas with her own creative vision — even humoring us with a Vogue-like mini-golf shoot with our bridal party! She made us feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera, whether it was cracking jokes or calling us pet names (“hotties” and “cuties” were my favorites).
On top of being a stellar photographer, she will be your best friend and biggest advocate on your special day. She’ll sacrifice anything to make your day amazing — including letting me wipe my hands on her beautiful dress.
There is a reason she has so many 5-star reviews!! Sarah was the single best decision we made in the wedding process, and I can’t wait to work with her again in future chapters of our life. Do yourself a favor and book this wonderful person! -

We LOVE Sarah!! I loved her gorgeous photography and followed her for a while before booking her for our wedding. I was always so in love with her bright and airy photography style and I was obsessed with everything she posted. When it was time for us to reach out to photographers, she was top of my list! During our phone call she was so kind and professional. She answered all of our questions and made the planning process so easy. We even emailed back and forth before our engagement photos and she gave me plenty of advice to prepare for the session. She was the best! As for the wedding day, she was incredible! She helped make things run so smoothly and did way more than you would expect of a wedding photographer. She helped fix my veil, she wiped away my happy tears so I didn't ruin my makeup, and she was able to wrangle our huge family for some impromptu photos we hadn't initially plan for. It felt like we were on the same wavelengths, I could make eye contact with Sarah across the room or dance floor and she instantly knew I wanted her to take a photo to capture a moment. Seriously, it's like she could read my mind! So many fun, candid moments captured throughout the day. Everyone LOVED her and they continue to rave about her even now. (: On top of her being just an incredible human to work with, the photos turned out so so beautiful!! We are so in love with all of our photos! And the speed with which we got them back was insane! Our family was shocked we got sneak peeks the night of the wedding and the full gallery back within 3 weeks. Seriously, I cannot put into words how obsessed we are with Sarah! We cannot wait to work with her again!! -

Choosing Sarah as our wedding photographer was one of the best wedding decisions we made! She did both our engagement and wedding photos and, as two people who aren’t exactly comfortable in front of a camera, Sarah turned us into moldable models. Cueing for photos, making us laugh, and hyping us up like we had been friends forever during our engagement shoot made me sure from the moment we met, that our whole experience would be amazing.
Sarah is not only an amazing photographer but a master at managing chaos. On wedding day, she played a huge role as more than just photographer and we really leaned on her to help get people where they needed to be and ensure our day was as peaceful as possible. She was always in the exact right spot to capture a special candid moment but also spent meticulous time curating perfect shots (even if that meant standing in the creek for the best lighting!). She really will do anything to make sure that your dream photos come to life.
We received sneak peak photos just a few HOURS after Sarah left our venue on our wedding day (!!!) and the full album back just 3 weeks later. We have received soooo many compliments on the quality of the photography and the light, bright, flowy editing style. I seriously can’t choose which to print out and hang up in our house! It’s so special to see our wedding day through eyes that aren’t mine and I will cherish these photos and our experience with Sarah forever! -

If I could give 50 stars, it still wouldn't be enough. Seriously.
Oh my goodness, working with Sarah was probably the best decision we made from our entire wedding. From the first moment I saw her photography, I knew she specialized in romantic, bright, and really stunning photos, but I couldn’t have predicted how unbelievable ours would turn out. They are easily the most beautiful wedding photos I have ever seen. Not only did she capture the colors and details in such a vibrant way, but more importantly her photos show the love, emotion, and even the fun that we had together and with our friends and families. I’ve never seen the way I look when I look at my husband, and I’m so incredibly grateful that I now can. She truly brings the day to life, and makes your photos look as gorgeous as the day itself feels.
Sarah is also super relatable, funny, and sweet. At this point I kind of just want to be her best friend, and I’m a little sad that we won’t have any more planning meetings together haha. We really looked forward to those! She made us feel so at ease through the entire planning process and the wedding day itself, and got us even more excited for the special day as we talked through all the details and photography potential at our venue. On the day of, she was always exactly in the right spot to capture a key moment, she guided us toward locations that were perfectly lit, she even climbed into a creek to take the most stunning photos of us during golden hour. She will do anything to make sure your photo dreams come true (and they’ll be even better than you could’ve dreamed, honestly!).
She is also extremely fast. Our families and friends still talk about how shocked they are that we got our photos so quickly. She had our sneak peeks to us the day after the wedding, and we had the full set before we even came back from our honeymoon! She is unreal! It was about the same timeframe with our engagement photos too — and we still look at those more than a year later, they’re just stunning.
For your wedding day, Sarah Houston is everything you could ask for in every way. She became my confidant, best friend, and more on the most special day of my life. I could not be more grateful to have had her there, and to have her incredible photos now. Thank goodness she does non-wedding shoots so we can work with her again someday soon :)

Sarah might honestly be one of the funniest people we have ever met in our life! She did both our engagement photos and our wedding photos and from the first time we met her she immediately made us feel comfortable. I can’t emphasize how important this is especially if you are worried about looking awkward in your photos. This is just the cherry on top. Sarah is beyond talented at what she does. We were blown away by how beautiful her pictures were and how quick she was at getting them back! Sarah is so wonderful and we LOVE our photos! From the first call, I felt like Sarah and I were friends - she is so good at relating to people and making them feel comfortable. She is beyond sweet, creative, and so helpful. Sarah was great at communicating leading up to the wedding and was always quick to respond. On the wedding day, she did so many extra things that went above and beyond: she attached my family pendants to my bouquet, put flowers in my hair, got me electrolyte water, and so much more. She made me smile all day and had everyone laughing in our group family photos. We felt so taken care of! She is a true professional and it’s obvious that she has a lot of experience. We also loved her second shooter who did a fabulous job photographing the groomsmen. Getting our photos back was like Christmas morning! We absolutely love Sarah’s light and airy photography style that makes me feel like our wedding was in a Jane Austen novel. It is such a gift to have photos that capture the best day of our lives so well. I have looked at our photos multiple times a day every day for the last month and now they decorate our home so that we can look at them 24/7! Sarah is an amazing woman and photographer. From our initial phone call, to the engagement shoot, to the wedding, Sarah was an absolute professional.
When I had my first phone call with Sarah, she told me that, while she is a wedding photographer, she ends up wearing a bunch of hats on wedding day - makeup and hair, event coordinator, emotional support - you name it! Haha originally, I was hoping that I would be low maintenance for her, but lo and behold, I had Sarah running around helping me, and she was a total champ. For example, my belt/sash on my dress kept snagging on the material, and she was the only one who thought to bring double sided tape, which totally fixed the issue! She made sure I taken care of and wasn’t too overheated — major shout out to our unofficial sponsor of the day, Neck Fans.
More importantly than her “many hats” is her photography. My *now* husband and I are not the most photogenic people. We are admittedly awkward in front of the camera, but Sarah was able to joke around with us and hype us up so that we actually enjoyed it. The photos turned out incredible. I love the quality and the brightness/lightness of her photos. Her edits were returned to us much sooner than expected. She captured us at our best, and we will cherish these photos forever.

Sarah did a TRULY spectacular job with our wedding photos. Not only did she turn the entire album around in absolute record time, she bustled my dress, brought a bag of day of emergency items, corralled our family and bridal party perfectly and got some of THE most incredible photos we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Sarah is so easy to work with and really led the charge on the day of our wedding to ensure we were in the right spot at the right time, definitely above and beyond type of work. If you're getting married, you NEED to hire Sarah as your photographer! Before our wedding, she was communicative, collaborative and thorough in her planning. On our wedding day, she was a total superstar. Our families, guests and other vendors all commented on her kindness, positivity and attention to details. My husband and I both have large (and sometimes loud) families, and she organized and handled everyone so well! I was truly in awe when I got our pictures back (which was super quickly). Her pictures are natural, ethereal and high quality, and she really captured the joy of our wedding day.
Sarah goes above & beyond the role of a photographer. She helped button and bustle my dress, touched up my hair after a windy ceremony, and even wiped our little flower girl's runny nose. Hiring Sarah as our photographer was one of the best decisions we made in planning our wedding. -

Hands Down The Best!!!!
Sarah is INCREDIBLE & we are in love with our wedding photos!! She is so sweet and funny and truly went above and beyond both leading up to our big day but especially the day of! She was incredibly efficient getting our stunning sunset pictures done despite the chilly weather, held on to a tray of mini grilled cheese for me to enjoy before we tackled cocktail hour, and mingled & chatted with our friends & family like she'd known them forever. Like many other reviewers, I can't say enough good things about working with Sarah. She was one of our favorite wedding vendors to work with, and she was responsive, so helpful, and made planning fun. We knew we didn't have to worry about how our pictures would turn out - they are AMAZING! Sarah really went above and beyond during a crazy year for weddings to get all the shots we wanted, make sure our day was going smoothly and according to plan, and wrangled family members with ease (a skill I wish I had). Where do we even begin?! Sarah is simply the best at what she does. Sarah not only was available leading up to our wedding, she encouraged us to reach out if we had ANY questions to help alleviate stress and work through any kinks together.
Sarah fit right in and was one of the girls, has a way of keeping the men in line (and you know they need this!!), and has an amazing personality that you want to be around. She stayed calm in the chaos and knew exactly when and where things needed to happen. She not only is an incredible photographer, she has such an encouraging presence.

When we booked Sarah as our wedding photographer, we knew that she would take beautiful photos, but she completely exceeded our expectations and was amazing throughout the entire process! She made our engagement session so fun and helped us get comfortable in front of the camera, and we are so grateful that she was available for our new date when we had to postpone our wedding by a year. The day of our wedding, she was so much more than just a photographer: she made sure we stayed hydrated, helped me into my shoes and held my dress up as we walked around for photos, kept our family and friends organized and moving in the right direction, and kept our energy up the whole time! There aren’t enough words to express Sarah’s talent; she has a heart of gold, and passion for capturing life’s special moments that shines with every couple. From the moment we were engaged, I was most nervous about how our photos would turn out. My husband is NOT into taking photos (closed eyes, funny faces, you name it, he’ll do it to ruin a picture). I was familiar with Sarah’s work, and when I looked further into her portfolio, was blown away by the beauty she creates. From engagement shoot to wedding day, Sarah doesn’t miss a beat. She was generous with recommendations, available any time I had a question or concern - even months out from the wedding she made herself available.
When it comes to take photos, if it’s cold and windy - she’s got you covered. Sun in your eyes - she has a solution for that too. Awkward about taking photos - don’t worry, she’ll have you laughing in no time and you’ll forget there’s a photographer there! She rolls with the punches (and put up with a lot of crazy jokes and comments from my husband.) After the wedding, my husband said “wow, she really is great at making you feel natural”. Sarah reminds you of the love between you, and captures the sweet, intimate moments in every shot. Because of her photos, we’ll be able to re-live our wedding day over and over!
If I could say one thing about Sarah: she’s more than a “photographer”, but a true gem of a human. She goes out of her way to make your wedding day, or any life event, that much more special. Not having a bridal party, Sarah acted as my bridesmaid, friend, and photographer. She helped with my dress, my shoes, calming my nerves, and knew how to keep my emotions in check. I truly cannot imagine my wedding day without Sarah. -

Sarah is more than a photographer that captures your day beautifully - she also ensures the day is as smooth as possible and becomes a friend. Our engagement and wedding photos were beyond what we could’ve imagined. She truly knows how to make you feel comfortable so that the photos capture your love. She has such an eye for photography. She found very beautiful spots for our engagement photos at UVA and great spots at our venue I never would’ve even thought of. She also captured all the tiny details of our wedding which was really important to me. She makes your visions come to life in photos. Not only are her portraits stunning, but the candids taken during the reception are amazing. Looking through the reception photos of all our family and friends dancing and having fun was one of my favorite parts of looking through tour wedding album. She captured all aspects of the day - small details, the love between my husband and I, and the fun our guests were having. Aside from her beautiful photos, Sarah helps your big day go so smoothly and truly cares about her couples. My wedding was 80 degrees at the end of October and when my husband got overheated, she went into mom mode making sure we got to the bridal suite for him to cool down and got him water. She bustled my dress for me after the ceremony. When I was getting very hungry during our photos, she gave me a granola bar. She was so patient with our elderly grandparents for family photos. The week before my wedding, all of the weather apps were calling for rain. Through my tears and stress, Sarah always ensured me my day would be perfect and she would make sure of it (and it didn’t even end up raining at all!) She didn’t have to do any of this but she did because she cares about her couples and wants to ensure your day is perfect. She was way more than a wedding vendor - she became a friend. We can’t recommend Sarah enough! -

If Sarah has your wedding date available, book her. Don't hesitate, don't second guess, just book her. You will not regret it. Sarah was recommended to us by our wedding planner and I couldn't be more grateful for that recommendation and Sarah fitting us into her already booked up year. 2020 has obviously been a pretty crazy year and planning a wedding on top of it was pretty stressful but with Sarah she was always ready to help and make adjustments as we needed. She's super quick with responses and she is always doing the most she can to help. When it came time for our engagement pictures we knew what type of scenery and pictures we wanted but weren't sure where to get that effect so we asked Sarah and she just had recommendation after recommendation for where to get them done. It's little things like this that just make things so much easier on the couple who is planning. We ended up finding a great spot and she just makes you feel so comfortable when taking the pictures. She's got goofy sayings and fun ideas that really come across in the final pictures. We were just having so much fun and it really showed. We were so excited to get our pictures from that shoot and figured we'd have to wait to get them back but nope, she had them back to us within the next couple days. They were SO perfect and we were so in love with them. We knew then our wedding pictures were going to be amazing. Fast forward to the wedding - she shows up with her assistant and Johnathan and she is just as excited for you about your wedding day as you are! She gets started right away, moving furniture and just setting up the most perfect pictures. Always getting us to laugh and smile. Throughout the night when we were taking pictures all I kept thinking was "I can't wait to see what these turn out like, they're going to be so beautiful"... well, I was right. Again, she got our pictures back to us so quickly and they were beautiful. Beautiful really doesn't describe how amazing they are. We are obsessed with them and having stopped looking at them since we received them. I think it's the fact she captures the happiness of the day and the happiness of the couple instead of just typical staged looking pictures. It makes it so easy to relive the day and how you felt in that moment. SO AGAIN, if she is available for your wedding day, book her, book her, book her. It'll be the best decision! -

We couldn’t be happier that we booked Sarah for both our engagement and wedding photos. She has a way of making photos look beautiful yet natural. She makes you feel so comfortable in front of the camera and the laughter you see is completely and 100% genuine. We have loved all of our photos!
On wedding day, Sarah and her second shooter went above and beyond being just photographers. We had a torrential downpour right before the ceremony, in addition to one of my bridesmaids getting sick with a fever. They had all the things ready (umbrellas, medicine, in addition to all their photography rain gear), kept me calm, checked on my sick bridesmaid, all while taking gorgeous photos. They did everything they could to help make our day perfect and because of them, it was!
Sarah is so sweet, personable, and extremely professional. Not only did we love her, but the entire bridal party and both sets of parents loved her personality. She was efficient and thorough in getting family and bridal party portraits done, which was especially important since we didn’t have time to take bridal party photos before the ceremony as planned due to the rain. We got ALL our photos back in a matter of days and our family and friends have been commenting on how beautiful they all look. We love looking back at our photos to re-live our wedding day over and over. We can’t say enough good things about Sarah! -

We worked with Sarah for both our engagement session and wedding day and we were thrilled with her photography! She was very responsive throughout the planning process. She was particularly helpful in working with us to develop our wedding day timeline to be sure we had time for first look and group photos prior to our ceremony.
On the day of the wedding, we had Sarah and her second shooter, Arlie. Both were friendly, fun, and lovely to work with, putting everyone at ease during photos. They captured a good mix of candid shots and posed photos throughout the day/night. She turned around the album SO quickly and even posted a sneak peek of wedding photos the next day. Sarah shot our engagement session, a personal bridal/mother daughter session, as well as our actual wedding day. All 3 albums left us speechless. Her attention to detail and capturing those little special moments is impeccable. Looking through the wedding album truly made us feel like we were reliving that day all over again -- and having a second shooter really helped capture these moments from different angles which is huge (not all photographers offer this!) Beyond the gorgeous photos, working with her is so easy and seamless. She is super responsive, and is always willing to give her recommendations for pretty places to shoot if you're unsure. Out of all of our wedding vendors, Sarah was truly a favorite and we plan to keep in touch with her and continue to book future sessions. We recommend her over and over again!

She makes taking photos fun, will constantly make you laugh, and will remain a friend long past the portait delivery. She is SO fast with her editing and delivery time. We got sneak peeks the very night of the wedding which was incredible and our entire album was delivered less than a week later! The portraits are to die for. She is so talented. First off, she made the trip to Memphis, TN where my now husband and i had just moved to take our engagement photos and they were fantastic. On the wedding day everything went great and we were able to get all the photos we wanted. My one suggestion is to ensure you make a shot list, which i did not, since some items were missed that Sarah wouldn't have known to get. She is super speedy in getting you pictures the night of your wedding and we got our whole album within 2 weeks. The photos are of amazing quality and look so great printed out in a frame and also on canvas! I cannot wait for her to take our anniversary shots since i know they will be perfect!

Stefani Sent on 12/12/2015We used Sarah Houston for both our engagement and wedding photos. She was very accommodating and made the hour+ trip to Alexandria for our engagement session. Additionally, she included a day after shoot to make up for some missed shots the day of (we had 10 inches of rain the week of our wedding and some shots were not able to be taken at the venue on the wedding day). Emails, phone calls, and texts were always responded to in a timely manner which any busy bride can appreciate! We are absolutely in love with 99% of her photos. However, there were a few shot where some things/people needed to be cropped out. Other than that small hiccup, we would absolutely recommend using Sarah for any photography needs you might have! She is as sweet as can be and really cares about each and every one of her clients and makes sure their dreams come true!
