Salt Lick is the the BEST!
I have had the pleasure of working with Salt Lick Catering on several occasions now and I can not recommend them enough. Not only is the food amazing, but the entire team is fantastic. Madison, Lauren, Bobby and Mike to name a few! Everyone is always so professional, helpful and friendly.
Such a great full service caterer with killer food and pricing! -

"Best food at a wedding I've ever had!"
That's exactly what one of our wedding guests told us! We loved working with Salt Lick so much. Not only do they provide delicious food, but the service is fantastic! It sounds kind of weird to say, but I think it's a sign of great service when people can compliment the food and flow of the evening and at the same time not remember seeing or hearing from the catering staff! Lauren at Salt Lick always responded so promptly to my questions and was very helpful when we were trying to figure out what catering would look like for a 'pandemic wedding'. Honestly, you can't go wrong choosing Salt Lick! -

Authentic Texas BBQ
Wanting to give our guests an authentic Austin experience meant live music and the best BBQ served from food truck. The Salt Lick did a great job. They were on time, professional, and delicious. 100% recommend. -

Perfection on Platters!
It was important to us to share local treats and eats with our family and friends, and it was a no-brainer to look into Salt Lick BBQ for our wedding caterer. They went above and beyond in their service and presentation! We opted for family style, and it felt like one great big family dinner which is exactly what we were hoping for. The food was amazing - and our out-of-town guests were in heaven right along with us! We have the best-ever leftovers for weeks :) -

The Wedding of Our Dreams
This review is long-overdue. When my husband and I were looking for a wedding venue, we researched several places around the country. There were spreadsheets and pro/con lists, and The Salt Lick was the clear winner. We both met in Texas, but live in New Jersey, and have family all over, so we needed something central. Not to mention the fact that The Salt Lick is our favorite Texas BBQ. From the beginning, everyone at the venue was so helpful and responsive, particularly since we were planning from afar. We chose Thurman's Mansion for our big day. We worked with Samantha, Carson, and Callie, and all of them were great - from the catering, to figuring out the open bar, to the ceremony and reception set up, to working with our vendors, and answering all of our many questions. We were able to set up our rehearsal for the day before, which went great. The day of, we were greeted with some snacks in our rooms where we got ready, as well as gifts (including some really comfy t-shirts). We had a good portion of the upstairs of the mansion to get ready (aside from their office space, which we were told before and was understandable), so we had plenty of room for our hair and makeup team, as well as other space for further preparations. We worked with the team before to set up the reception area, using a program provided by them where we could lay everything out. And everything was set up perfectly the day of. The ceremony was beautiful. The reception was so fun - the food was delicious, from the hors d'oeuvres, to the dinner, to the desserts (we had so many of our guests compliment the food, especially the BBQ), and the bartenders were great. (The Salt Lick was also able to accommodate several changes we requested to the alcohol menu, which we really appreciated.) We rented the festoon lights, as well as 2 cornhole games. Those were a hit, too. We could not have asked for a better place to host the best day of our lives. Thank you, Salt Lick and Thurman's Mansion!-

We got married at Pecan Grove and had a wonderful experience working with this venue. This is a naturally gorgeous venue that is always well kept regardless of what season it is which allowed us to save money and keep decorations pretty simple...pretty much floral centerpieces, candles, some cute signs and family photos, done! Rachel was very responsive to all of our questions leading up to the big day and all the staff we encountered were incredibly helpful and professional. We had both the ceremony and reception here so were able to utilize the bridal suite. The space was perfect for getting ready and for being able to step away and have a quick quiet moment with my husband during the festivities. Some of our family has had salt lick bbq before so were already thrilled that they were catering, but it was a special treat for our family who came from out of town. We kept hearing how full everyone was and that they went back for 2nds and 3rds!! We actually had more food that we needed due to some last minute cancellations but they allowed us to take the rest home. being extremely picky if i had to say anything not so great... I could not for the life of me find a place to hang my gown in the bridal suite. There was a clothing rack that would fit regular length clothes but could not find a high enough hook to keep it off the ground. My guess is that maybe it was there i just couldnt find it, but if it wasnt there i would suggest they add that. I ended up handing my dress on the top of one of the french doors. It also got pretty warm in there, but not sure they could have controlled it that much as there was a lot of people coming in and out. the reception area was temp controlled and very cool though. This was the first and only venue we looked at. Love at first site! Would certainly use again in the future -

Fabulous Venue and Staff!
I had my wedding here on 10/20/18 and worked with Carson during the planning process. She responded to all of my emails extremely promptly - almost always within a couple hours! - and was very patient with me and my millions of questions. The day went off without a hitch and everyone had an amazing time. I want to get re-married here every year!! Thank you, Salt Lick team!!-

I cannot say enough nice things about Thurman's Mansion (one of the Salt Lick venues) and especially Carson Saldivar. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone. You don't have to worry about hiring a caterer as Salt Lick makes the food on-site. Many of our guests were from out of town and we loved providing them the best BBQ in the world! Our guests told us it was the best food they ever had at a wedding. The hill country views from the venue were spectacular. Carson, Adrian, and the rest of the Thurman's Mansion staff did an amazing job and worked really hard to make our wedding beautiful and easy for us to plan. They were easy going and went out of their way to accommodate all of our crazy questions and requests. We had an amazing time! Thank you Thurman's Mansion, the Salt Lick and Carson! -

Thurman's was the perfect venue for us! We loved its size, the beautiful view and the well-situated ceremony site. We served their famous Salt Lick BBQ and our guests loved it! The appetizers were great, the bar package was perfect, the service was timely. I had so much fun at my wedding-they helped make it possible. -

My husband and I got married at the Pecan Grove on February 11th, 2017, and from this moment, I have ZERO complaints for negative comments. From the very beginning of the process of selecting the venue, the venue coordinator, Carson, was very helpful with everything. Every time my husband and i had a question, Carson made it so easy to contract her and ask her all type of questions. In her quick responses, she provided all the information we needed to know and made the process very easy. From selecting the meal option, to the layout of the chairs, Carson made it easy. I'll be honest and say getting married here is a little pricey but at the end its ALL WORH IT!! From this day, we still get told that the food, the peach cobbler the service, the drinks were ALL AMAZING! So like i said, the price is well worth it and i could see myself coming back on our 25th or 30th anniversary and celebrating it there. In conclusion...SALT LICK is the BEST BBQ JOINT IN TEXAS. So good, that my husband and i should be back there in a couple weeks just to eat the same meal we had on our wedding day. -

A family member told us to look at this venue...This was our first wedding in our family. We live in the Dallas area.
Thurman Mansion is a beautiful venue...The view is over looking the hill country. The food was wonderful. Many of our guest remarked about getting a beautiful place and the food was outstanding. Along with the ambience, the food, the staff was so professional throughout the whole process of our planning throughout the wedding. Jena our coordinator was always available when ever i called. She answered every email in a timely matter, offered every service and tool to see how our room could be laid out with tables and chairs. There were not any surprises with extra fees. Jena communicated well and made sure every detail was taken care of. We were very pleased. -

We wanted to have a beautiful, laid-back wedding at Spicewood Vineyards with delicious food...so naturally we booked Salt Lick. My husband and I love Salt Lick already but we did look around to find the best price for our 180-person guest list. We compared highly-rated food vendors and more casual options - but Salt Lick won on overall price AND taste, even compared to the more casual options. We got the tomato bruschetta appetizers for our cocktail hour and the chicken/brisket combo for dinner. Callie at Salt Lick was quick to respond to our questions and worked with us when we requested to bring in our own plates. They were on-time and brought delicious food. Our guests told us how much they enjoyed dinner - no bland chicken dishes here at our wedding, no way! My parents were able to take home the leftovers for the next day. Overall, great experience, excellent service, and yummy food for a great price! -

Our wedding was at Pecan Grove this August, and I couldn't recommend the venue more wholeheartedly! My husband and I planned the wedding from overseas, and our coordinators were super flexible in working out the details from afar. In fact, we chose Pecan Grove because they did most of the work for us - they have a set bar vendor, plus they do set-up, clean-up, decorations, and catering (my relatives from Germany lost their minds over The Salt Lick's BBQ). Pecan Grove itself (where we had our ceremony) is even more beautiful than I realized from the photos before we arrived in person, and the glass-walled pavilion was perfect for the reception (and COOL...very important in the August Texas heat!). The event staff were all impressive professionals, not to mention down-to-earth nice people, who made the reception run like clockwork. In short, every aspect of the wedding and The Salt Lick's venue and staff exceeded my expectations, and I'd get married at Pecan Grove again in a heartbeat! -

Service was perfect and efficient. Everything went off without a hitch. Thank you Salk Lick!

We choose to have our celebration at the Pecan Grove. Our contact with Pecan Grove was Megan Burley. She was wonderful, very sweet and responded to any questions or concerns we had promptly. She was very professional and made sure to get every detail so that the day went smoothly. We would highly recommend Megan and Pecan Grove for your special day or any event. It has a beautifully rustic decor and a nice surrounding outdoors area. We had our event catered by SaltLick BBQ and it was definitely a crowd pleaser. -

The Salt Lick catered my spring wedding and the food was amazing. I heard nothing but good things from all guests, many being from out of town and enjoying Texas BBQ for the first time. I also owe many thanks to Callie, the event coordinator for the Salt Lick. She put up with me and my husband for almost a year! She had given us multiple different quotes and even had to redo our invoice a few times due to our indecision. She NEVER complained. She was great to work with! Thank you to both Callie and the Salt Lick! -

We served over 300 guests at my daughter's wedding on 5/16/15 in Dripping Springs and everyone loved the food; it was just like being at Saltlicks. Food that was supposed to be hot was and everything that was supposed to be cold was and it all tasted amazing! We served buffet style and the staff kept everything fully stocked. The staff also helped set up and breakdown the tables and chairs at the venue. Very friendly staff & efficient. -

We did our rehearsal dinner for 60 people in the Garden Room on a Thursday night.
Getting everything set up was very easy. They were always responsive and made the process very pleasant.
The staff was great. We were winging it in terms of when we were doing speeches etc, and the staff was always checking with us on when food should come out and if we needed anything. The family style BBQ was great and they were great and making sure no one ever ran out. Everyone from out of town thought it was great.
They also packed up all the beer into coolers for us after the fact so it was easy for us. At the end of the night they sent us home with a bunch of BBQ, let guests take home anything left on their tables and gave us a very nice thank you card. -

Look for Carson! She was available, friendly, and very helpful. The venue itself was affordable and contained a lot of natural beauty with it's trees, creek, and rustic like design. We also had a lot of guests from out of state, so the idea of great bbq food at a reasonable price for out guests was a big plus. We love this place! -

I cannot say enough about how AMAZING Carson (event coordinator) and Thurman's Mansion were! Of all the days to rain, it rained on our wedding day but I did not stress one bit because Carson had everything under control and a plan B was already under way. I really wanted the outdoor wedding but the inside wedding in front of the fireplace in the mansion was more beautiful and intimate than the outdoor wedding could have ever been in my opinion. The all you can eat barbecue and peach cobbler from Salt Lick is always phenomenal and it was on our wedding day as well. The service and set up that the mansion provided was on point (everything was GORGEOUS!) and the banquet captains (Adrian and Adrian) did an excellent job making sure us and our guests had what we needed/wanted. I received and am still receiving so many compliments from everyone about how beautiful everything looked, the service that they received, and how awesome the food was. Guests have also told me that our wedding was the best wedding they have ever been to. You honestly cannot beat everything you get at Salt Lick for their prices! I would do it all over again with them any day! -

Pecan Grove (or, truly, either of the Salt Lick venues) is the perfect place to have a wedding. I could write paragraphs on the amazing food but I'll keep it to a few sentences. Of course, the BBQ is great. But everyone was so impressed with the passed hors d'ouevres--the chef at Pecan Grove is a master. Truly delicious stuff all around. The grounds are gorgeous. My pictures are bright green everywhere thanks to the beautiful grass. It was such a stunning place to get married. The space is large but not too large--there was room for eating, dancing, photo-boothing, and sitting for my 150+ people. There certainly could have been room for more. A lovely bridal suite and grooms room--we shared the bridal suite with the groom party after first looks and had a blast in there. I think perhaps the most wonderful thing about Pecan Grove might be Carson, the manager. She goes above and beyond to make your wedding perfect. I had a situation with a missing cake, and Carson, who's job description definitely doesn't include cake wrangling, JUMPED in and took care of everything--calling people all over the country to make things happen. And then I show up at the site for the wedding and, of course, Carson has located my cake and made sure it was there for the party. She answered every crazy question I had, and very promptly. Our wedding truly was the best day of our lives, and it is absolutely thanks to Pecan Grove. If you are debating wedding spaces, debate no more, as you have found the place: Salt Lick Pecan Grove!! -

We used them for our rehearsal dinner in the banquet room for 75 people. The room was huge, we added the AV equipment for our slideshow which was perfect and our waiters were on top of their game and so great! Needless to say the food was delicious, which is the whole reason my fiance wanted to use this place in the first place! -

Perfection. The venue is exquisite and the food, well c'mon, we all know the food was off the charts!
The real gift was working with Carson. She is a professional and worked with the vendors as the "team leader" for the site. I was so impressed with how much she cared about every detail and her vast knowledge of events.
I have no more weddings, but IF I did, this would be my number one choice. It is our number one referral.
Everything was perfect, perfect, perfect.... -

There are not enough words to describe the fantastic experience that we had working with Carson and the rest of the staff at Thurman's Mansion. The venue is breathtaking and one-of-a-kind; a true Texas-style mansion. We didn't really have to do too much to decorate, because the venue and natural decor are so classy! Prior to the wedding, Carson was in frequent, clear communication with us and always willing to work with us and ALL of the questions that we had that were specific to our event. She was so professional and respectful that we never felt like there was anything that we couldn't ask! The staff was also extremely accommodating for our many spontaneous visits pre-wedding to walk through some additional details. The day of the wedding was FLAWLESS. It could not have been more well executed - the staff was on point with the food, service, etc. The Banquet Captain was extremely helpful when needed and our guests raved about the venue. The outside patio provides a really nice opportunity for people to flow from inside to outside so it never once felt croweded and we had 200+ attend.
I hope this review is helpful and an obvious display of our sincere happiness with our experience at Thurman's Mansion. I would not hesitate to do it all over again and recommend this venue to others. -

Salt Lick is our favorite BBQ and is a big reason why we decided to get married in the Driftwood area. We live north of Dallas and wanted a beautiful outdoor setting with good food. We honestly didn't even look at other catering options once our venue was booked, because we knew we loved their food, and their value is exceptional. Everyone we dealt with was professional, and one of the staff members at the wedding even made a point to visit us and offer congratulations. Salt Lick exceeded our already high expectations. We would (and do!) recommend them to anyone who appreciates good BBQ. -

I am so absolutely happy that I chose Thurman's Mansion as my wedding day! Of course, the food at Salt Lick is wonderful and Carson was great to work with. She was always willing to be there 24/7 when we needed her. We had to change to the rain plan/plan b the morning of my wedding since it was raining and I am glad that this happened and we had to go this route because no one would ever be able to tell. I got so many compliments on the venue and the staff and how the whole wedding looked and was handled. I would recommend this venue to anyone wanting to get married in the hill country or Austin area. We knew we wanted to get married in the hill country and looked around all over the area and this was the first place we looked at and went back here after looking at about 10 other places! -

Katie and Thurman’s Mansion did an INCREDIBLE job for our wedding on Saturday (06/14/14)! I was planning our Austin/Driftwood wedding from Virginia so I didn’t have an opportunity to meet Katie in person until several days before the wedding. However, she was professional and easy to work with via telephone and email. The food (Salt Lick BBQ) was outstanding and the venue looked great. We were fortunate with the weather and even had a cool breeze at the time of the ceremony. That is certainly a lucky thing for June! The cocktail hour and reception went off without a hitch. Adrian and the other banquet staff members were fantastic. Guests all commented on how good the BBQ was but knowing Salt Lick, we expected no less! Thanks Katie and your entire team for making our wedding so memorable! -

My husband and I absolutely love the outdoors, Texas hill country, wineries, etc and we wanted to give our guests a true Austin experience. We landed on Thurman's Mansion for our reception venue and couldn't have been more thrilled. The Mansion is so beautiful -- stone, rustic, wooden beams, and on top of a hill with great views of vineyards and the hill country. It was already so beautiful, it didn't require a huge amount of decorating. We worked with Katie of Salt Lick events and she was so sweet and patient with us, answering alllll of our questions. We appreciated her help in making our reception such a fun and memorable experience. She was a pleasure to work with!
Also, the Salt Lick catered our wedding reception this past may and anyone who knows anything about BBQ in Texas or the Austin area, knows that Salt Lick is some of the best there is!! And they did not disappoint! We had a lot of guests from out of town who had their first experience with Salt Lick BBQ and everyone was RAVING about it! It was such a huge hit!! -

From beginning to end, Salt Lick was a joy to work with. We hired them to cater our wedding reception for about 125 people and they could not have been more perfect.
The Salt Lick team answered our initial inquiry immediately and made short work of getting us acquainted with their operation and our options for our event. They were flexible and professional enough to accommodate almost every detail -- dietary restrictions, serving presentation, day-of logistics, and the list goes on.
It was almost a year between our first contact with them and the actual wedding. During that time, we dealt with three different coordinators (due to new hiring and employee vacations) and while that could have been a total nightmare, they managed the hand-off of our event with grace and without anything falling through the cracks. Our final event coordinator Callie Hill was definitely the most wonderful to work with. Before putting in the final order, we went to their Driftwood location for a tasting and lunch. The catering and restaurant staff treated us and our parents amazingly well, brought us extra goodies, and answered all the questions we had. It really felt like red carpet treatment months before we event had our wedding.
As for the food: if you've eaten Salt Lick before, you know how truly amazing their BBQ is. And we're happy to report that their catered fare is not lacking one iota in quality! The catering team arrived with their grill/smoker in tow and the BBQ that they put out on the buffet line was as good as any I believe I've ever had. They provided the perfect meal for our reception with the most amazing, professional service and our guests just couldn't stop telling us how much they enjoyed the meal. Aside from the amazing food, they were in and out so smoothly and neatly that I was astonished.
In conclusion: incredible, professional admin and catering staff who are willing to accommodate almost any request; and of course WORLD CLASS BBQ. -

Everyone knows the Salt Lick's food and BBQ sauce is to die for! We basically had a destination wedding in Austin so for all of our out of state guests we had to have some Texas BBQ and of course picked the best there is! We are still getting compliments with how good the food was! They catered at an offsite location (Pecan Springs Ranch) and were amazing. They were super easy to work with thru email and phone and were on time, super efficient, and professional. They even brought my husband and I plates of food (asked us what we wanted- everything obviously!) AND a drink from the bar! They even ended up bringing their pit to make sure the food was freshly smoked, which was an awesome addition to the Texas feel. HIGHLY recommend if you want a Texas feast!! -

The Salt Lick catered our wedding reception this past November 9, 2013. It was delicious!! We were a little nervous about it not being as good as when we go to the restaurant in Driftwood, but it was great. The meat was tender and not dry at all. They were easy to work with and gave many options to work with for the wedding. They were flexible with any changes we made and answered emails and calls in a timely manner. The server was extremely nice and the setup the day of the wedding was quick and looked elegant. Everyone loved the food. We are glad we opted out of a regular reception meal and chose to go with our favorite bbq for our big day! -

The Salt Lick was on our MUST list since the day we got engaged. These ladies and gentleman are the perfect and ideal caterers. You tummy, guests, and venue will be ecstatic! They are extremely professional, set up everything on time, and are easy to communicate with. My venue did not have them on their preferred vendors and after the wedding they told me they would add them because they did everything that needed to be done without asking, unlike some other catering companies. Please consider Salt Lick for your wedding, they are more than just BBQ! -

The Salt Lick at Camp Lucy 7/1/2012
Services Provided:
Passed Hors D'oeuvre during cocktail hour
Buffet
Cake Cutting Service
The food:
Salt Lick is world class Texas Barbeque for an extraordinary reasonable price (as far as catering prices go). Most our guests were from out of the state/country, and were absolutely floored by the quality and flavor of the food. Our meal consisted of chicken, turkey, brisket, the sides, and cobbler. The hors d'oeuvre were the spinach pinwheels, stuffed jalapenos, and something else.
Coordinator:
Annette was our point of contact, and did a wonderful job handling our wedding. It was a Jewish wedding, which means no pork, and Salt Lick/Annette were very accommodating providing us with great vegetarian and pork-free options.
The staff:
The day of staff was amazing, especially the gentleman running "point" and conducting the cake cutting. The staff was super friendly, kept everything spic-and-span, and was very professional.
We would highly recommend Salt Lick. The combination of food, value, and service simply cannot be beat, and delivers and authentic Hill Country experience.

The Salt Lick came into Austin and catered my wedding. The food was amazing and there was so much of it! With all you can eat BBQ, I didn't need appetizers at all, and none of my guests went away hungry. They also have vegetarian options, if you have a few people who need it. They came to Mercury Hall with their own tables and linens, and all the staff were dressed professionally. We had 120 guests and the price is really reasonable when feeding a large group. -

You cant beat the food and sometimes when a company does off-site catering the quality and taste isn't the same as in house but this wasn't the case with the Salt Lick. The Salt Lick is amazing! Of course, anyone in the area knows you just can't miss with Salt Lick as your caterer. And I guess I expected them to rest on their good name and quality food and not provide much else. Boy was I wrong. Not only was Tana, our contact, EXTREMELY responsive during the planning process, but the service on the actual day was incredible! They bring their own tables and linens for the buffet and tea/water setup. And the servers were so friendly and just GOOD. We received SO MANY compliments on the food. I highly recommend this vendor. Plus, they're one of the only BBQ caterers who included pork (and beef!) ribs for such a low price per head ($13.50!!!). Great Job, Salt Lick! -

Hands down our best vendor! The value cannot be beat. And when we wanted them to create unique sides off their menu, they were totally into it and only charged us what it would cost them in ingredients and labor--no extra charges. The staff who came to serve was also great. It was completely chaotic when they showed up, but they were fine and helped us get things in order. They even helped out when some decorations fell down. Best of all, they saved some of the pulled pork sliders for me and my husband so we could have some after the pictures even though they had run out. -

We knew before we started planning our wedding that we would like to use The Salt Lick and we looked at nearby venues in Driftwood with that in mind. We felt we'd found the perfect combination of caterer and venue. We also wanted some authentic Texas bbq for our out-of-town guests and The Salt Lick didn't disappoint! The Salt Lick was as delicious as expected! Their service was professional and spoken well of by the venue. They set up and cleaned up really well and discreetly. We would absolutely recommend The Salt Lick and use them again for other future events. -

Organized my stepdaughters wedding at Pecan Grove, Salt Lick with Samantha who made the entire process a breeze, especially given the entire wedding was planned via phone/email from NJ. Samantha ensured the day went without a hitch. Pecan Grove was the perfect venue for a typical Texan, bbq, wedding. The Salt Lick bbq food was of course amazing and way too much, we could've fed Austin with the leftovers! If you are looking for a carefree, casual, indoor/outdoor wedding in a simple venue that embraces the stunning setting , Pecan Grove is the place and Samantha is your girl. Shout out to John the banquet captain too who ensured the food service went smoothly. -

I had my wedding at Thurman's Mansion in April, and it was absolutely beautiful! We had 142 people, and had the ceremony outdoors and the reception indoors. Samantha, the event coordinator, was a pleasure to work with and everything went flawlessly. I really liked that the venue is all-inclusive when it comes to things like tables, tablecloths, staffing, catering, and beverages. It really helped me not have to deal with as many vendors and made my life easier! The only thing I would've liked was to be able to have my rehearsal the day before at a later time - please note that if you're looking to have your rehearsal the day before, they close at 5 so the rehearsal would need to be at 4 pm. Otherwise, this venue is highly recommended and we had a wonderful time!-

We wanted to show our out-of-town guests how a Texas wedding is done, so naturally, we needed some BBQ. Despite being more expensive than some other BBQ caterers, Salt Lick was worth it. The food was amazing and all of our friends and family raved about it (and still do!). We made cute favors to match our theme that included some of Salt Lick's BBQ rub (purchased separately from the catering package) and all of our friends used it within weeks of the wedding. A few guests even purchased more through their website! All in all, Salt Lick provided what many guests said was the best food and experience that they had ever had at a wedding. -

The Pecan Grove Pavilion is beautiful and provides the perfect balance for my casual but traditional wedding reception. Carson has been wonderful to work with and has been very efficient with getting in touch with us and helping us with planning the reception. She has also been very flexible with us having the reception on our desired date even though there is an afternoon event on the same day. The Salt Lick also has great relationships with many other vendors who are all familiar with the venue and have been very willing to work with us out there. Plus, you can't go wrong with Salt Lick BBQ! -

How can you NOT like the Salt Lick. We were so happy to have them cater our wedding. Everyone couldnt' stop talking about how delicious the food was. We were all so happy with the food!
Annette Yates was incredible helpful. She was always on top of our requests and responsive through email whenever we had a question. They were right on time and had everything set up and ready to go. We also hired their bar tender and wait staff, and they were so great. Very helpful and just got everything done.
We couldnt' have been happier with the turnout. Thanks Salt Lick! -

Had my wedding at the Pavilion and it was absolutely the perfect venue for what we had in mind. We wanted a very laid back, low stress wedding and that's exactly what we got. EVERYBODY loves Salt Lick BBQ, so that was a no-brainer, and the creekside ceremony site was absolutely beautiful. I had some minor difficulties getting responses during my planning phase, but quickly found that phone calls were much more beneficial than emails as far as getting an answer back in a timely manner. Regarding my big day, they were extremely flexible in letting me put some personal touches on my event and I have gotten so many compliments from my guests about what a great time they had. Plus a huge benefit is that you can bring your own alcohol, amounting to a huge cost savings. Overall, the wedding there was extremely affordable and a total blast. -

We had both our ceremony and reception at the Salt Lick Pavillion. Our ceremony was down just before sunset on the banks of the Onion Creek. It is a beautiful setting under the trees. The Pavillion is perfect for that Central Texas atmostphere. They wrap the trees and pillars of the pavillion in white lights and at night it just comes alive. Of course, the food is amazing. Our guests who were from all over the country just went on and on about what a beautiful wedding site it was. -

The Pecan Grove at the Salt Lick was the perfect location for our wedding reception! With half of our 200 guests coming from out of town, it offered plenty of space, a beautiful landscape, and a true Texas feel. The Pecan Grove's recently added a porch that added an extra special touch. We also appreciated not having to decorate much because Christmas lights were already hung around the pillars indoor and there were a few chandeliers already hanging from the ceilings. The windmill and expansive green grass made for great pictures as well. Having a Sunday wedding there is also very affordable. My recommendation would be to ensure that the food is warm when served. While very tasty, it was cold by the time our guests ate. In addition, their "cash bar" literally means "cash", which can be an inconvenience for guests if you are not supplying the wine, beer, and/or alcohol. -

Our July wedding at Thurman's Mansion was absolutely beautiful. From start to finish, we were so happy with our choice in venue. We started out in the lovely and spacious dressing rooms. We had fantastic weather under the big oak tree and looked out over the green lawns and vineyards, which provided the perfect backdrop for some amazing photo ops. The staff were professional, yet enthusiastic and made us all feel special. The Salt Lick BBQ, was, of course, delicious and a huge crowd pleaser.
The only hiccup in the night was that the bar package we had selected was not the one that was provided. Key parts of the wine menu were changed or missing. It was a bit disappointing that our wedding suffered from a miscommunication between the Salt Lick and their bar services. However, I will say that the staff handled the mistake beautifully. They were sincerely apologetic and comped part of the bar bill for us.
Overall, we had a beautiful night and it would not have been the same anywhere else! A true classy Texas evening!

We were married at Thurman's Mansion. We live in Las Vegas, so everything was done via phone and email. We worked with Ashley; she was always extremely prompt and detailed with emails, which was appreciated as I did all of the planning ourselves.
The food was amazing. All guests commented on the BBQ. Dawn and Charles at the bar were fabulous bartenders.
The venue had dressing rooms- there was a platter with cheese and fruit, with bottles water when we arrived. The dressing rooms were very nice; however, there was not much mirror space.
I was looking for a very rustic aspect to the atmosphere, and the venue delivered. The backdrops are gorgeous. The pictures outdoors were fantastic.
I would recommend this venue.

My first weekend living in Texas a good friend took me to Salt Lick BBQ and I loved it. When planning my outdoor, laid back wedding I knew that Salt Lick would be great for the wedding. The quality of food from the catering side was comparable to their restaurant, and the people were easy to work with. All my out of state guests loved it, and convinced them that Texas BBQ is worth the trip. They were also flexible enough to open the buffet early because my guests were starving because they decided to skip lunch for reasons passing understanding. Saved me from 75 people with just beer/wine and no food! -

We loved having our wedding at the Pecan Grove (Salt Lick) and I can't imagine having had it anywhere else. The venue and grounds were so beautiful, and food was amazing, as usual! Only minor issues we had during the planning were when the person in charge changed, and there was a little confusion over specifics for our bar selection. No biggie, though. Everything was lovely. The man who was in charge of catering that day (I wish I remembered his name!!) was a little guardian angel. He helped out with so many things, way above and beyond his job description and we couldn't be more thankful. -

We had our Wedding at Thurman's Mansion which is owned and run by the Salt Lick. It is the perfect venue for a Texas Hill Country wedding. They staff was wonderful the day of the wedding and my mother said they managed to anticipate our needs. If you are looking for something that you can pull off casual in a very elegant way this is the place. I wish I could post pictures to do it justice. -

We chose to have our wedding at Thurmans Mansion so we could have Salt Lick BBQ cater it. We are from NYC so all communication was through email and phone, with the exception of a one time meeting 11 months before the big day. We were working with Katie who was very helpful. Once we started getting closer to the date, I had questions and emailed Katie many times without a response. It was extremely frustrating. Finally, I emailed the main address and got a response within 2 days from Megan. Turns out, Katie left the company and no one had notified me or gave me a different contact person. Once Megan understood my frustration, she was unbelievably helpful and responsive to my many questions. Due to the change of contact person, some things were not as we were originally told. Prices went up from what we were originally quoted, which was the biggest issue we had. All in all, our day was fantastic, our guests had a fantastic time and the food was amazing. Those issues we had prior to the day were forgotten because we were so happy with everything day of. I would recommend Salt Lick, but with the suggestion that you have everything in writing! -

We love Salt Lick and were very fortunate to get it for our wedding, it was a huge hit with everyone. We did pick up ourselves, because we had people onsite at our venue to staff the wedding and we were working with a limited budget. I took off some stars because they were difficult to work with--we got vastly different quotes different times we called (for the exact same food order), and they tried to majorly upsell us (e.g. doubled the cost per pound) once we passed the 75 person mark. I understand they are a business wanting to make money, but it was not about their volume, it was just a profit opportunity. We wound up splitting our order in half and having 2 people order it separately, which saved us about 40%.
BTW--for the vegetarians we got Falafel wraps at Phonecia Bakery, so cheap and delicious it worked out great. -

Salt Lick food is always great and their private rooms are perfect for a rehearsal dinner. The atmosphere is really the ideal "Texas" experience, especially if you have guests coming in from out of town.
Our rehearsal dinner was lovely and the food was delicious. I do think that when all was said and done it was a little expensive for BBQ though. -

Great food, exceptional value. Really, if you want to wow your guests (mine were all from out of town), and save money but serve them really great food, barbeque is the answer.
In the end, Salt Lick made a couple of missteps. I had a really hard time getting in touch with my contact there right before the final payment was due and sent multiple e-mails and left voicemails. No big deal, as it was all sorted out. Additionally, I had requested the upgrade to the linen napkins and real plates and sliverware, but we got the paper plates and plastic silverware instead. We weren't charged for it and seriously, on my wedding day, I couldn't care less. They also brought their "Texas Sized" cookies, when I had asked them to take them off the menu and modify the package. It just seemed like what we had originally agreed to was not consulted before they loaded up the van for my reception.
Like I said, though, none of this was a big deal and people actually RAVED about the cookies, so there you go. I wish I had grabbed one! I would still highly recommend Salt Lick for their awesome food and total turnkey wedding catering.
Two more things I wish I had known - they gave us all the leftover food which wound up being eight trays. Since my guests were all staying in hotels, my family donated all of it to homeless people around Austin. So great of them, but I wish we had known we needed a plan for leftover food. Second, they don't have any vegan meal items. I had one vegan guest that I had to bring a special meal for. They do have a veggie lasagna which also got great reviews from my guests. -

First of all, The Salt Lick is DELICIOUS. It's my family's favorite BBQ place, so of course my husband and I picked it to cater our very Texan wedding! We and the guests were very satisfied with the food. It was a little pricey, about $30 a plate, but that's still less expensive than a traditional plated wedding meal, so I thought the cost was worth it for such great food. They were also very helpful in ensuring we had a special meal available for a friend with several food allergies.
My only complaint: We ended up with a lot of extra food. I felt pressured to add a handful of extra plates to the final RSVP count, because we were told that it was possible there would not be enough food if the headcount was not EXACTLY right. This was not the case and we were left with a LOT of extra food. We didn't mind, since we and both our families were happy to take home leftovers, but it would have been nice to save a little money.
That said, it was still delicious, so very "us," and everyone seemed to really enjoy the meal. -

We canceled our wedding at Pecan Grove because the photos are not representative of the actual venue. The classy stone walkway is covered by a wooden deck, the natural interior is pained over grey and white, those big clear windows are actually warped, synthetic material, and the ceremony site is on top of a swamp with a drainage pipe less than 15 yards away. To top it all off, we specifically asked if the venue was close to any highways that would disrupt a ceremony with noise. Their coordinator Carson assured us that it was not, but when we arrived we saw that the venue and ceremony site is less than 60 yards from a major roadway. Who wants to say "I do" with cars and trucks whizzing by at 55mph every few seconds?
We live in California now, but my fiance went to college in the Austin area and has been to the Salt Lick many times so we had no reason not to trust the photos. On their website, their brochure, and even extra photos we requested by email--everything looked beautiful so we booked sight unseen about 13 months out. We visited a month later and canceled as soon as we saw the venue. It wasn't even close to the photos they sent. The worst part was the way we were treated after this. Salt Lick refused to admit any wrongdoing or refund our deposit (which is a whopping 15% of our budget), even though we canceled 12 months before the date. Surely they will be able to re-book, especially since our date was a holiday.
After emailing or calling the Salt Lick nearly every day for a month, we were finally able to negotiate a refund of half of our deposit. That's still a sizable portion of our budget that we will not have for our wedding all because The Salt Lick mislead us into a contract that severely limited our rights. We couldn't be more displeased with the way we were treated by the Salt Lick employees, specifically Maile, Carson, and Analisa. We would not recommend this venue to anyone. -
