Rescheduling our wedding weeks before the intended date and then successfully pulling off the wedding several months later would never have been possible without her help. Olivia was always quick to communicate and happy to help with decision making. From our first time meeting at the tasting to the day of our wedding, Olivia made sure to make us feel celebrated!
Roots food at our wedding was delicious! Our guests especially raved about the bruschetta and pork belly/watermelon hors d’oeuvres. As a gluten free bride, Roots menu options were extremely accommodating and delicious.

Great wedding caterer!
We started our search for a wedding caterer not realizing that plated meals aren’t as common for weddings anymore, which made finding one that does plated meals at all AND within our budget. Roots was incredibly accommodating and worked with us every step of the way to stay within what we were comfortable spending.
Alyssa was a true professional and such a pleasure to work with. She made us feel at ease during the tasting and throughout the entire planning process, which meant a lot during such a busy time. I never had to worry about lack of communications with her.
As two Northeasterners living in Charlotte, we initially found the salt levels a bit higher than what we’re used to, but the team was very receptive to our feedback and adjusted everything perfectly for the wedding. There was only one hors d’oeuvre and one dessert that couldn’t be modified, and even those were still enjoyed by our guests.
The entrée portions were generous. That is something we really appreciated after experiencing smaller portions at other tastings for even larger amount of money per plate. Overall, we were so happy we chose Roots and truly grateful for their flexibility, professionalism, and delicious food.

We had an incredible experience with Roots as both the caterer and bartending service for our wedding! From start to finish, they were an absolute joy to work with, professional, responsive, and truly invested in making our day perfect.
The food was absolutely delicious and our guests are still raving about it! Everything was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. They went above and beyond to accommodate our food sensitivities, offering creative and thoughtful menu options that didn’t compromise on taste.
The drinks were just as impressive. The craft cocktails were a huge hit, specifically the Blackberry Ginger Mule! The bartender was friendly and helped keep the vibe fun and relaxed all evening.

We hired ROOTS Catering for our daughter's wedding. If I could give 10 stars I would. They were absolutely incredible!! Alyssa, the catering manager was the BEST!! She was kind, patient, helpful, thorough, professional and we could not have done this without her!! The wait staff and bartenders were also incredibly kind, professional, and very hard working. They all wore smiles the entire event. Finally, the food, oh the food!! Absolutely delicious and wonderful!! Everyone loved it!! They offer so many GF/DF options, which was very helpful to us! Roots Catering was by far one of the most accommodating vendors we worked with for our wedding. After reaching out to several catering companies, we found that most weren't flexible with our smaller guest list of 40 people. Many caterers required a minimum of 50 guests, meaning we'd have to either invite more people or pay for food we didn’t need—essentially throwing money away.
With Roots, the experience was entirely different. Allysa was absolutely fantastic. She patiently answered my many questions, provided quotes for both plated and buffet options, and allowed us to pay per person without any minimum requirements. This flexibility made everything so much easier.
Roots Catering was the first vendor we booked, and it was truly the best decision we made. On the day of the wedding, Savannah and her team were incredible. Despite some unexpected obstacles, they handled everything with such grace and professionalism.

The Best Caterer
From my wife - From my first conversation with Alyssa, I knew that we were going to have a wonderful experience! She was kind and fantastic to work with. EVERYONE at our wedding raved over the delicious food that was served at our wedding. We had the taco station, slider station, and all american station. The passed appetizers at cocktail hour were a HIT and absolutely delicious. We were taking photos after the ceremony and a caterer brought us appetizers which was greatly appreciated because we were starving!! Get the deviled eggs! We had a tray of food sitting at our sweetheart table so we didnt have to go through the lines. And they sent us take home boxes! Let me tell you, I was wishing we had gotten a chance to eat more during the wedding and was thrilled to learn that the catering team sent food home with us to have the next day. Absolutely wonderful experience!

Wedding celebration cocktail party
From the moment I contacted Roots, specifically Alyssa, I was impressed with the guidance and variety of food and beverage offerings curated for our cocktail party of 75 attendees held in our home. Communication was seamless, tasting was delightful, and assistance with tables, linens, etc was provided. Basically anything that was desired could be found by this amazing team. The service the night of the party was excellent including bartender, servers and in home chef. Food was with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. Alyssa was present to oversee it all! Wouldn't hesitate to use again!

Roots catered our wedding through Beau Monde at The Collector’s Room and it was absolutely delicious. The process and overall experience with Roots was great. They took our feedback from the tasting seriously and made sure our menu was exactly what we wanted including honoring pricing from when we booked vs their updated pricing as the months went on. The passed apps were a major highlight and the food stations were each delicious and our guests loved everything. My wife will only continue to lament at how she only ate 1.5 of the deviled eggs during cocktail hour and will always want more. Pistachio macarons were my favorite.

ROOTS was recommended to us by our venue and I am so glad it was, everything was exceptional. The food was delicious, their brisket is out of this world. The display for our cocktail hour was beautiful and all the appetizers so yummy. Our buffet line moved quickly and the servers were on top of water refills and clean up, which all the guest appreciated. When we originally booked ROOTS we were working with Olivia who eventually transitioned into a new position and Alyssa then became our new contact. Both ladies were wonderful and extremely helpful with questions and recommendations. I even reached out to Alyssa the morning of the wedding to add coffee and she instantly responded and was able to add it on no problem. If you want your wedding day or any event to go perfectly I highly recommend choosing ROOTS.

Best wedding Food Ever
Roots catered our wedding. I was so impressed by the quality of the food they provided (my bridesmaid turned to me before we walked out to be announced and said "oh my god, did you have some of the crab cakes? They were so good! It was all so good!"). I was also impressed with the professionalism that everyone gave, from coordinating the wedding food to the application of our special drink. I have told my husband many times that I wish we could be invited to a wedding catered by Roots so I could just sit back, relax, and enjoy all the delicious food without some of the stress that comes from it being your wedding! You are making a mistake if you don't book Roots for your next event if you have the chance.

I cannot say enough good things about working with Roots for our wedding. From the first contact, Olivia was incredible. She was accommodating, helped us talk through all of our menu options, and was extremely flexible and willing to help us make all the changes we needed up until a few weeks before the wedding. Our guests can't stop talking about the food!!
Hiring Roots was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding! Olivia made the coordination and decision making super simple and was in communication with us and our planner the whole time. There are so many details that we never would have thought of without her. She was also really flexible as we added/removed things and had questions. One thing we liked about Roots was the ability to provide the beer/wine ourselves which saved us a bunch of money. They were really easygoing about it and helped us figure out how much to buy. We did our menu tasting at their restaurant and were blown away by the quality of the food. We were slightly nervous about how that would translate with the travel time and catering services but everything was perfect. All of our guests keep mentioning how good their meals were and how it was some of the best food they've had at a wedding! The bartenders, servers, and staff were very professional and coordinated with our planner to ensure we had our meals first. They kept our glasses filled and saved us a plate of our hors d'oeuvres since we missed the cocktail hour. I am so impressed with Roots and would highly recommend them to anyone!

Roots was absolutely incredible to work with. We worked with Olivia and she paid attention to detail from start to finish, which was especially difficult during COVID with date changes. Olivia recommended delicious items and then helped us narrow down our menu to meet our budget. She was professional, organized, and so easy to work with. We had an awesome time at our tasting, too!! I know I'm biased since it was my wedding, but it was hands down the best wedding food I ever had. Everything was restaurant quality and so delicious. I wish I could rewind time and do it all again!! Roots has really creative options if you want to do something outside the box (we had paella, chicken and waffles, and an indian chicken curry dish) but they also have more traditional options too. Our guests loved the interactive food stations. The presentation of everything was also beautiful. Roots also bartended at our event and the bartenders and servers were SO NICE. They were so attentive to me as the bride and to all the guests. Couldn't recommend them enough. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!

Yummy seasonal Italian inspired menu
I love everything Roots does from beautiful tablescapes (with vintage looking gold accented plates sourced from their partner and gold flatware) to locally sourced vegetables. They worked with us to design a menu that gave options with our dietary restrictions (vegetarian and lactose intolerant), and in line with our Italian-inspired wedding theme. They were also flexible to allow us to eat outdoors for our tasting for covid safety back in January. We were really delighted with everything, especially the support of Olivia, the special events manager.

Roots catered our wedding and WOW, I cannot give them enough praise. In my past experience, even "good" caterers' food still has that "catered banquet food" taste, but that was not the case with Roots. They made us a custom menu (!!!) that rivaled anything I would order at a high-end restaurant. Roots is such a fun and flexible vendor. I literally went to them and said, "let's come up with an eclectic, fun menu that guests won't forget", and they definitely delivered. The taste and presentation were beautiful, and our guests have been raving non-stop about how this was the best wedding food they have ever had. Considering the level of quality of this caterer, Roots is an incredible value.

Fantastic Experience!
We had the best experience with ROOTS for our wedding day! Olivia was our event manager, and she was extremely professional, flexible, and responsive throughout the entire process. She helped us navigate many changes when we postponed our wedding due to COVID. She also helped us with linen/flatware/china rentals and everything looked fantastic! Our guests raved about the food and our signature cocktails! The rest of the staff was wonderful - our bartender was very well-liked by our guests!
We have recommended ROOTS to all of our friends who are planning weddings and would hire them again!

We had roots as our caterer earlier this month for a small covid wedding and they were absolutely amazing!! Everyone is still talking about the food and how great everything was! We would gladly recommend them and use them again for any future events!

Perfect microwedding catering!
Roots was the perfect addition to our microwedding lunch reception! The team set up the COVID-conscious buffet spread on our outdoor patio safely and quickly so everyone could dig in as soon as we finished taking photos. Every single guest raved about the food, from the smoked salmon appetizer bites to the refreshing herbed chicken and grouper entrees. The lavender lemonade was also amazing! We couldn't be happier with their service and highly recommend them to anyone in the Charlotte area looking to plan an intimate and safe celebration during these uncertain times.

We are so grateful that we chose ROOTS to be our exclusive caterer for our wedding reception and rehearsal dinner. From the very first interaction, Olivia was professional, responsive, and genuine.
We originally were only using ROOTS for our reception but as our wedding was relocated from NC to SC, our needs changed. Olivia was amazing to work with, helped us navigate that change and assisted us with designing a rehearsal dinner menu to fit our needs, the proper safety protocols, and made sure it was totally different than what would be seen/served at the reception.
All of the food was delicious and all of our guests have had nothing but fantastic feedback. I would recommend ROOTS catering for ANY occasion. Thank you Olivia and Team for making our wedding (and rehearsal dinner) an absolute success!

The food was only the beginning....
The food was terrific with many compliments paid, could not have been better! The staff communicated important details and were punctual and professional. The food was only the start of our positive experience. Covid-19 forced difficult decisions and we had to downsize our gathering substantially. Roots not only refunded in full the excess moneys paid, but did so with a smile. These folks were a breath of fresh air in an otherwise trying situation. Bravo Roots! We'll be back!

ROOTS Catering is always one of my favorite catering companies in Charlotte. They have been present at many of my Charlotte friends' weddings and the variety at each reception is unmatched. Roots was easy to work with from start to finish. Olivia answered our emails quickly and was willing to work with us on making our wedding vision come true. Plus the food was delicious!! We had a taco station and a shrimp and grits station that got high praise. The bartenders were fantastic too. All of our guests were well taken care of. Roots was a perfect fit for our wedding of ~115 guests.

I'll be honest, I was a little disappointed in the food at the initial tasting and I was starting to second guess our catering choice. However, I couldn't be happier that we chose Roots to cater our wedding. The food was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. Everyone raved about how good everything was and our guests are still talking about the paella station! Even though we chose heavy hor d'oeuvres and stations rather than a traditional sit down meal, there was more than enough food for everyone. The bartenders and servers were wonderful and Kellyn and Olivia were so accommodating from start to finish. I honestly can't recommend Roots enough!

Umm book them now! Roots catered my wedding of 50 guests and people won't stop raving about the food! We had a southern style pig picking with fire roasted veggies, mashed potato bar, and cornbread. However, everyone's favorite part were the appetizers! Fried mac and cheese balls and corn cakes were the toast of the reception. Not to mention the staff brought some apps over to my groom and I while we were taking pictures so we could actually eat some! During dinner they made sure we got enough to eat and didn't want for anything. I worked with Kellyn in the planning process and she was very communicative and sweet. Seriously book them right this second.

We used Roots for our wedding catering through Separk Mansion's all-inclusive package and were thrilled with the results. Roots has an incredible menu with tons of choices that will please everyone. I loved all of the food we had at our wedding, but the crowd-pleaser was definitely the mac and cheese -- we are still hearing about how delicious it was from all of our guests! The shrimp and grits are amazing and so are the chicken and waffles. We also had a few vegan guests and Roots took care of them with delicious and filling vegan meals. Highly recommend Roots catering!!!

We had Roots cater our wedding in August and they did an amazing job! We did tastings with several companies in Charlotte before Roots and when we tried Roots we were blown away. They really know good food and flavor. We especially loved that they source their ingredients locally. We had such a positive experience planning everything with Kellyn, she is incredibly friendly and professional. Two thumbs up for Roots Good Local Food at our daughter’s wedding reception in July 2015! In short, the food was delicious and the staff was delightful.
Working with Jackie before the wedding to accommodate specific needs of the bride, groom, our families, and our guests, was a joy. She and the chefs were so responsive to our wish for the food to be locally sourced from sustainable farms as much as possible. And for ALL of the food to be 100% gluten free. And such a joy to be supporting local farms.
On the big day, Roots set up shop outside The Bottle Factory and seamlessly provided fabulous appetizers (Rosemary Steak Skewers, Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp, and seasonal fruit) during the cocktail hour followed by scrumptious meals (Grilled Wild-Caught Salmon, Chicken Provencal, roasted seasonal veggies, and their killer “Bright Salad”) for 170 people in what may have been record time. Oops, sorry we didn’t plan for calling tables to the buffet one-at-a-time!
We thoroughly enjoyed the food and received so many favorable comments from our guests at the wedding and afterward. Highly recommending Roots Good Local Food!

I am still so impressed with Roots as a company. Their attention to detail was incredible and not only was the food delicious, the presentation was beautiful. Their level of customer service is top notch as well. My mom inquired about whether or not they might be able to source food from Cabarrus County to support the farms she supports and they did so without question or hesitation.

1. The food was delicious (our friends and family are still talking about it).
2. They worked with us on creating a menu to meet certain dietary restrictions.
3. They allowed us to do as many tastings as needed until we felt comfortable with the menu.
4. They worked with my coordinator and set up the truck across from the park shelter due to the rain.

This was a post-elopement party at our home for approximately 60 guests. We love food trucks and thought it'd be fun to have one at our atypical wedding party. I called several but the most responsive, most professional, and most flexible BY FAR was the team at Roots. Together we planned a fantastic menu that appealed to our guests' wide range of food preferences/dietary needs. Kim did a pre-event site visit so we were all very comfortable with the logistics prior to the event. The on-site team provided friendly, fast service and our guests raved about the all of our menu items. Pricing was absolutely fair. Of course the truck was a big hit, too. People are still talking about what a great party it was and I give the Roots team a lot of credit for that.

Our wedding reception was catered by Craig Barbour and his crew at the Hodges Farm. We purposely chose Roots because of their commitment to locally sourced farm food.The food, the service, the people were all fabulous! When we first met with Craig, he was very helpful with suggestions and ideas. At the reception, the chef and server were personable and responsive to our every need, going above and beyond. Everyone raved about the shrimp and grits and how wonderful the fresh local food was! We loved the black iron skillets and how it helped keep the food piping hot, even for those extra servings and a few latecomers. Thank you for making our son's wedding reception a great success! Roots was not only the caterer for our rehearsal dinner at The Old Mecklenburg Brewery, but they also delivered breakfast trays to the bridal suite on Saturday morning as well as served our guests the BEST late night eats from their famous food truck after our reception at The Mint Museum in Uptown Charlotte! Craig is great to work with and the menu is spectacular. All of our guests loved the food and talked about how nice it was presented. One word: WOW. We cannot say enough about the quality of the food and service that we received from Roots! Our guests are still talking about how amazing the food was almost a month after the event! Craig Barbour is one of our favorite chefs in Charlotte based on our regular experience with the Roots food truck and special events at the local breweries, so our expecations were already high, but the level of service that the Roots staff provided and the professionalism with which they managed the entire process and event was fantastic. Also, the decor and presentation was perfect for our venue and theme, using beautiful, solid wood and cast iron pieces. They were very flexible with us, from getting creative with the available sides to allowing us to incorporate our family recipe barbeque sauce into the menu. Roots sources as much of their ingredients as possible from local and organic farmers, which was important to us, and they had no problem accommodating our request for compostable serving products. We would highly recommend Craig and Roots for the catering of your event!

Craig did an excellent job. We were very pleased with the food and felt at every step, Craig was looking out to make sure our expectations were exceeded -- and they were! Craig was accommodating and flexible, making the food planning process a stress-fee and enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend Roots to others for weddings both small and large.

Great Food!
Our experience with Roots was amazing. We did a low-key micro-wedding with 15 guests, a short and sweet ceremony, and cocktail hour. The Roots team was responsive, accommodating, and excited to work with us. They made us feel excited about our day and confident it would be a success. The food was amazing and the staff were helpful and courteous. All of our guests complimented the food and many went back for seconds and thirds. Overall, Roots was the perfect choice for us.

The perfect personalized vegan wedding
Olivia, Taylor, and the Roots team went above and beyond to help my husband and I have a fully vegan wedding menu. They are extremely professional, their chefs are talented, and they helped us so much with all of the little details regarding food and drink on our big day. Olivia was a pleasure to speak to via email and on the phone and always answered promptly.

Roots Catering has a reputation that precedes them, so when my now-husband and I found out they were a part of our all-inclusive package at Circle M Farm, we were delighted! I'd tasted their food before and even met a few of their reps prior to our tasting and was pre-impressed with their service, food, and staff. Kellyn was our Roots Catering goddess from start to finish. She was professional, courteous, and treated us like family. She was always helpful and never failed to communicate quickly and consistently.
We were BLOWN AWAY at our tasting! The items we'd requested to taste were the brisket, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth with perfectly charred edges and a fall apart consistency (and the sauce was killer good). The potatoes and mac were equally delicious. Their day-of service was phenomenal. Our venue provided a lesser amount of space than I'm sure they are used to and they made it work just the same. We received nothing but excellent service. Our only complaint is that the brisket we had at the tasting was not consistent with what we received at the wedding. It was still very good, but was more like a pot roast with some sauce as opposed to the slow roasted fall apart brisket we'd tasted prior. Perhaps this was because of the sheer amount of people they had to prepare food for, but we were a little disappointed. Overall, their service and food was phenomenal and we would 10/10 hire them again for another event!

The salmon was soooo good
A pleasure to work with. Food was good, service and bar tender were great. They packed up some leftovers for us to eat for the next few days, which was awesome too because we were exhausted after the wedding!

Immediately after our tasting with Roots, we knew this was the caterer we wanted to use for both our rehearsal dinner and wedding. Kellyn, was extremely helpful and easy to work with. We even went through a venue change five months before our wedding and Kellyn was extremely accommodating and proactive in making sure everything regarding our plan for food stayed the same. We had them do a pig roast for the rehearsal dinner. They brought a smoker to the parking lot and had the full pig there, which was a cool experience for many of the guests that were not from North Carolina. The food was delicious although some of it was cold when it was served at its scheduled time, however, overall we were happy with it. For the wedding, overall the food was great, but we did have a couple items that weren’t what we had at our tasting. We were disappointed in the grilled pimento cheese appetizer as it was nothing like what we had at our tasting. However, the bacon wrapped asparagus and pork belly sweet potato biscuits were as great as we remembered. During planning, we debated whether to do stations or a buffet style with servers for the meat and pasta. We settled on stations right next to each other similar to a buffet as Roots assured us they would be able to get our guests through in less than 30 minutes. However, it ended up taking them an hour and a half to get 130 guests served which in our eyes was unacceptable. Multiple guests commented that the meat carver didn’t look like he knew what he was doing and was holding up the service. At the end of the night, we had them bring their food truck to serve chicken and waffle tacos as a late night snack. It wasn’t really a taco and while the chicken was great, the waffles were soggy and cold. Despite some of these missteps, overall the food was good and they were very easy to work with, which is why we are still giving them a 4/5.

Roots is absolutely AMAZING! The food was outstanding, both in presentation and taste. The staff who catered our wedding were extremely friendly and took great care of me and my husband... they packed up two full to-go boxes of our wedding food so that we had midnight dinner or food for the next day! Additionally, a few of each of the passed appetizers were neatly placed on plates for us and were at our table once we sat down to eat. The girl I worked closely with (Anna) to coordinate everything I wanted for our cocktail hour and dinner was extremely attentive to my needs and met all of my expectations. For the quality and presentation of the food, I felt the $ was well worth it. Guests were extremely pleased with our food selections and talked quite a bit about how fantastic everything tasted! I am SO glad I decided to use Roots to cater our wedding. I also really appreciate their use of locally grown/sourced food items, healthy, yet tasty food options, and modern presentations.

Over all the food was good and the presentation was done really well, but we did not feel the servers were very responsive to the needs of the guests. The bartender was AWESOME though! We were supposed to have coffee available, and there was none. We paid for the rental of coffee cups and never used them. We also expected to take home the remainder of the food after the wedding and it was not even offered to us. Once the cake was cut, it was taken away so fast that there were many guests didn't even get a piece.

Bait and Switch
ROOTS was referred to us by our wedding planner who saw such good reviews. We had a tasting where they rolled out the red carpet. The food was delicious at the tasting so we had high hopes for the plated service we paid for at our reception. Unfortunately the food we received at our reception tasted NOTHING close to our tasting. A bunch of our guests were complaining their food had no seasoning just like me and my husband’s food. We ordered whipped creamy mashed potatoes but we received dry lumpy potatoes. I had to ask for salt and pepper just to be able to attempt to eat it because I was starving. One of guests said her short rib tasted like they cooked it the day before and just heated it back up to serve. My planner said the silverware initially came out dirty and had to send it back. For the cake cutting they never took the cake to the back to cut but instead cut it out in the open and tried to sit the plates on the same small round table with the half cut in cake still sitting there. So much cake was thrown away because they never cut the whole thing up. So all in all for the amount we paid we definitely do not feel we received a service worthy of that. You only get one day to get this right and that was ruined for us. I would not recommended.

Reputation Unfulfilled
Despite the hype about the catering experience from others we found that Roots made changes to the plans,as did the wedding planner. The presentation was according to their own staff "below par" , the carving station was scratched with no knowledge and a champagne pour at table was removed by the planner . The meal itself was fair, the chicken was crumbling dry, potatoes cooked to mush and two of our tables did not receive full meals.
The onsite staff were to have someone get in contact with us after the fact that did not happen until we reached out to them, of course they had their money so the owner "I just want this to end". Basically made no efforts to compensate as in his words they lived up to the contract.
Honestly we had better food and service from Galway Hooker in Cornelius for the Rehearsal Party and Fresh Chef in Cornelius for a Cocktail party hands down.
