We got married at Richwood on 11.4.17. It was the fairytale setting for any wedding. The charm of the place is truly amazing! Everyone absolutely loved it and many of our guests have made plans to come back and take advantage of the bed and breakfast. We rented the whole place for the weekend and had our immediate family and bridal party stay. Colleen and Kelsey are extremely helpful and easy to talk to. I asked kelsey a million questions in the months prior to our wedding and she was very helpful every time. Anything I asked of them they were able to accommodate or to make suggestion. I would recommend Richwood to anyone! They are amazing!! Day of the wedding everything was crazy but Kelsey was able to navigate us through and everything went off without a hitch!!
Richwood on the River is the PERFECT wedding venue. We were just married here on 10/7/17. The staff at Richwood was AMAZING! At our final details meeting Colleen covered everything you could possibly imagine. There was no way anything was going to be left out. I also felt so free to communicate with both Colleen and Kelsey throughout this entire planning process. I always felt so important to them as they responded quickly and thoroughly.
We rented the property for the entire weekend of the wedding, and our immediately family and bridal family loved staying on the property. Colleen was unbelievably helpful throughout. I always felt like my wedding weekend was her number one priority, no matter what. She is professional, fun, organized, and kind.
The morning of the wedding things got a little stressful (as I imagine many weddings due), but particularly as the threat of rain increased throughout the day. I was set on having our ceremony outdoors, but also beyond overwhelmed at making the decision to potentially postpone the wedding 15 mins or more. Colleen knew exactly what to do and made the call and had her staff out drying chairs and we were able to have our ceremony outside as planned!!! I 100% attribute that win to Colleen and the ceremony was perfect. She had already worked with our DJ/MC to make sure we still had music at the ceremony site even though he couldn't set his equipment up as originally planned. Everything went off without a hitch, as if we had planned it this way from the start.
The carriage house is also a gorgeous setting for the wedding reception. We went to max capacity with our guest list (approx. 150) and the room fit everyone perfectly. It felt intimate without feeling cramped.
I feel like I could write a book about all of the wonderful details about Richwood (in fact, it looks like I already have), but in all seriousness, I am incredibly pleased with our choice of venue, and thankful to the staff who made it unforgettable!
Richwood on the River and their staff accommodated all our needs for our daughter's wedding. There is not one thing we would've changed. We highly recommend this venue, along with their staff.
The Richwood on the River is just magical! We had our wedding there three weeks ago - had started planning it last summer and everything just turned out fabulously. Colleen, the owner, makes everything flow so easily. She is very accommodating, prompt about returning phone calls, and the most helpful in her guidance on key wedding decisions. The Richwood wedding will be on the minds of many of our guests for years to come as most have just gushed about how wonderful the experience was!
Absolutely phenomenal!! The service, care, hospitality, punctuality, atmosphere, flexibility, everything about Richwood on the River was high quality and delivered to its fullest. Colleen goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable, and to make sure you are happy with everything. I really feel that there is no other venue out there that can compare to what Richwood on the River has to offer. I highly recommend Richwood on the River to everyone. We will be returning for an anniversary stay and we can't wait. We had our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception at Richwood on the River and it was more perfect than I could have ever imagined. I honestly cannot say enough positive things about this Venue, Colleen, and the staff. Thank you for making our dreams come true.
There was absolutely NOTHING I would change about my wedding. Colleen is so professional and patient and on her game which helped make my day sooooo stress free! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!
I absolutely loved having my wedding at Richwood! The venue is absolutely beautiful, and I loved that we had it to ourselves for the entire weekend. It really took a lot of stress out of our experience to have both sets of parents and all of the wedding party on the property for the whole process.
Also, the owner, Colleen, is so incredibly sweet! She was available anytime I had questions leading up to the wedding and never made me feel like I was bothering her. She made sure our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner were organized, and she laid out our breakfast foods that we brought for the weekend every morning in a buffet style. She was also available the day of to make sure that everything ran smoothly.
I honestly can't say enough positive things about this venue. The only problem I came across was that it's a far drive from vendors, so finding vendors to come there was a little bit of a pain and they charged quite a bit for delivery fees, but Colleen provides a preferred vendor list for assistance.
This was a beautiful place to get married, have the reception, and enjoy the whole weekend together. We had a morning wedding and enjoyed the afternoon at the pool with our guests!
Colleen was awesome to work with. She was professional, attentive and has the experience as a wedding planner that created a beautiful wedding for my daughter and son in law. Her suggestions made the whole event run smooth, created an atmosphere for guests to enjoy themselves, and accommodated the wedding party beyond belief. Money very well spent. Icing on the cake, was the beautiful venue. If you are looking for a venue of this type I strongly recommend Richwood on the River. Don't forget to use Colleen and her staff as the wedding planner as well. As mother of the bride, I worried about NOTHING. Great time was had by all.
My husband and I fell in love with Richmond the second we stepped foot on the grounds. We had our dream wedding there in June of last year and now have the blessing of being able to return for romantic weekends! I've slept in the McKinley Suite, The Rosemary Room and one of the Carriage house suites and each was comfortable and charming. Our wedding guests who stayed in the other accommodations had only good things to say. I've had breakfast and a wedding weekend brunch and both were decadent. The town of Madison, IN is minutes away and a lovely way to spend a day. Lunch and shopping and a winery and sweets... hiking at Clifty Falls state park... We loved being able to make ourselves at home at Richwood on Friday, welcoming guests flying into either Louisville or Cincinnati (equal distance), and making final preparations. We had a casual wedding rehearsal dinner on the terrace and spent the evening by the pool and just enjoying each other. We were able to offer immediate family and out of town guests accommodations (which they raved about) and the best part was the calmness of the wedding day. There was no rushing from place to place getting ready, getting to ceremony, to reception, to hotel, etc. It was all RIGHT there. Our photographer (Everleigh Photography) had been married at Richwood herself and recommended the McKinley suite for bridal party prep. The photos were perfect. Colleen took note of where the sun would be at our ceremony time and we adjusted to keep our guests in the shade. Colleen (Ava Rose Event Design) offers so much expertise in wedding planning AND hospitality as the owner of Richwood. We couldn't have asked for anything more perfect for our wedding weekend. I just wish I could relive the day over and over again. :)
Richwood is a wonderful place for your wonderful day. It is simply gorgeous - pictures do not capture it well enough. You need to see it to really understand. It feels so welcoming, there is a ton of space for whatever you want to do, and for all the people who are involved. I did not realize how much nicer it would make the wedding to have had a relaxing day with all the people in the wedding party who were staying in the guest rooms starting on Friday. We all knew each other and had shared a few meals and laughs, so no tension. That made a huge impact to being able to enjoy the event. I would be remiss if I didn't comment as well on the wonderful, welcoming people who run Richwood on the River, and who make certain that everything is going well - even the things you don't hear about until after it is all over. In summary:
Deciding to have my wedding at Richwood was the best decision I ever made. This place is so beautiful and the service is awesome. Colleen has been a wonderful host and she did everything in her capacity to make my wedding successful. She was very helpful and supportive during the entire event. If I were to celebrate my wedding anniversary 10 years from now - I would probably plan it at this same location - so much in love with it.
I can not say enough great things about Richwood on the River! My husband and I booked Richwood before the change of ownership so we were a little concerned; however we couldn't have been in better hands! Colleen (the owner) and her team are fantastic! So friendly, helpful, and flexible.
I live in Los Angeles, California and was planning the wedding from long distance (not easy!). I hired Colleen and her team to do weekend-of coordinating (a fantastic perk- I HIGHLY recommend). Throughout the entire planning process Colleen was always receptive to my questions & concerns, despite the 3 hour time difference. She helped me, however she could, keep overall cost as low as possible (which was important to my husband and I) and get in contact with a number of vendors so we could find the one that worked best with us.
Not only were my husband and I thrilled with the wedding and overall entire weekend at Richwood, we received so much positive feedback from our family and friends about how great everything looked, ran, and of course- how beautiful the property was!
Since purchasing Richwood Colleen has made some amazing improvements! There is no doubt in my mind that Richwood is the perfect place for a wedding weekend and future brides and grooms can trust that they will be in great hands with Colleen and the Richwood team!
Richwood on the River is a treasure!!! My daughter was married on April 30th, 2016. The owner Colleen Sutten helped create beautiful memories for my daughter and son-in-law. She gives above and beyond what's expected of the contract. It rained hard all day, Colleen had a plan and everything ran smoothly. The pictures in the house are stunning!
Most of our guest came from out of state and they were so impressed with the elegance, history, and the service of Richwood on the River. You won't go wrong having your wedding or any other event at the Richwood on the River.
Richwood on the River is a gem, worth every penny spent!!!
When planning our wedding it became clear early on that an outdoor wedding was what we wanted. After asking friends and a Facebook post, we checked out Richwood on the River and a million other places. With the opportunity to make it a weekend event with rooms for up to 40 people, the amazing grounds, caring staff and owner, the choice was easy. No where else was beautiful, no one else had the experience. We have received so many compliments from our wedding guest about it being the most beautiful wedding they have ever been to. Highly recommend!
The Richwood Plantation takes you back in time. The mansion, ballroom, suites and grounds are just stunning and truly envelope you with their beauty and wonder. The new owner Colleen Sutton, has such a passion for her clients that she goes over and above to make their experience seamless and memorable! What a blessing to have celebrated our daughters wedding in such a special place.
When my husband and I were looking for an alternative location for our wedding, Richwood on the River (formerly Richwood Plantation Inn) kept coming up as a place to check out. We instantly fell in love with it the day we drove by and even more so after visiting it. Its central location to many of our traveling guests, made it the perfect location for our wedding. Although we knew the property was up for sale during the time of our booking, the new owner, Colleen Sutton, was a joy to work with. The transition of ownership was seamless and we were able to use her wedding planning services which far exceeded our expectations. One of the great appeals of this gorgeous setting was being able to rent out all the rooms for our wedding guests for the entire weekend. Not to mention the amazing backdrop it created for all the stunning photographs. The entire weekend I kept pinching myself at how blessed I felt to have been able to experience the dream wedding at a historic venue with such casual grandeur, charm, and stunning views. The intimacy of the Carriage House was also the perfect location for the wedding reception. Loved having the outdoor fireplace and the hot tub. This place has so much to offer! We can't wait to come back for an overnight visit this Valentine's Day!
Richwood was the best venue that I could have ever imagined for my wedding. It was just the right size for the amount of people that I had. I loved being able to have the whole venue for my family and friends. The best part was knowing that everyone I loved was able to stay at the venue when the party was over. I would go back and do my wedding over again and again and I will also be making some frequent visits to the venue for their bed and breakfast.
I cannot say enough good things about Richwood Plantation. It made the weekend like a fairytale. Quite a bit of our family was able to stay on location as well as all of our large wedding party. It was so nice to be all in one place and have the hair stylists and makeup artists come to Richwood. The grounds were lovely, even in the dead of winter. The rooms were pristine and the staff was wonderful. One of the groomsmen was in a wheelchair and when he arrived the groundskeeper went to the barn to build a ramp for him without anyone asking him to. Any requests that were made were fulfilled with a smile. Sam was fantastic. The popcorn machine we had brought didn't have a wall adapter that worked in the building so Sam went to purchase a mini popcorn machine and popped little amounts of popcorn for hours so we could have our popcorn bar. I appreciated that so much. He was easy to work with and so friendly and the whole of Richwood was above and beyond our expectations. Thank you Richwood!!!
Richwood is a hidden jewel for Louisville brides. After looking at almost every known outdoor venue in Louisville I was frustrated at the value and overall lack of appeal. While there was some "nice" venues I wanted something that would be one of a kind and memorable for my outdoor wedding. I stumbled upon Richwood Plantation through another brides blog.
Their site was awesome but I felt it must be too good to be true. Much to my surprise on my first visit....I was blown away. The location, accommodations, value, customer service, etc etc Could this place be real?? I quickly signed the contract before they changed their mind?!?!?
Sam, the plantation manager was great. He knows his weddings and was able to give a ton of helpful advice. He was accommodating and pretty much satisfied our every request. We rented the plantation for the wedding and after all the guests chipped in for their 2 night stay, we paid less for the whole weekend than we would have for 6 hours of rental time. We held our rehearsal, reception, and morning after brunch at the plantation.
The facility is breathtaking. Our spring wedding needed little decorating. The historic building, amazing landscape, and location was amazing in person and in pictures. Guests found their rooms clean and way above a standard hotel accommodations. Most loved their kitchens they had in their cabins. The 40 guests who are able to stay on the plantation made the wedding preparation a breeze...no transportation hassles.
Minuses....just make sure you bring most of what you will need there is a Walmart across the bridge in Indiana but you are limited. While you are open to use who you would like- use Sam's suggestions on vendors- they are the best price and provided great service!
Overall we were thrilled with our choice of Richwood and our wedding would not have been the amazing experience without the location and the help of Sam. We had several guests that booked dates to come back and visit the plantation for a weekend as a result of our wedding! I would recommend this location to any bride.
