Not long after my daughter, Morgan, became engaged to Josh, the search for the venue began. As soon as Morgan arrived at Richwood on the River for a tour, she knew that the beautiful, scenic, all inclusive setting was exactly what she had been dreaming about for her November 1, 2025, wedding. While the venue itself is incredible, it was Colleen Sutton, the owner/coordinator, who helped Morgan's vision come to life to make the whole weekend magical.
Colleen's communication with my daughter, her fiance, family members and vendors was excellent! She took time to answer any and all questions with knowledge and patience while offering her advice and guidance about the set-up and details. She is so personable and positive! She made everyone feel comfortable and welcomed. Her calming demeanor helped us work through the nervous jitters with ease. She was so sweet and calmed me, the mother of the bride, with a hug when my emotions were high. She is a professional through and through and knows her stuff! It's amazing how well she managed the logistics while fielding all of our questions.
Colleen was truly happy to celebrate Morgan and Josh! She worked hard to make it an incredible and memorable weekend--and it certainly was!
I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a beautiful setting for your upcoming events, especially a wedding! I have to emphasize that it is Colleen who makes the experience incredible by going above and beyond! She is the heart of Richwood on the River! I am so appreciative of her, because my girl's wedding dreams came true!
(By the way, you can't go wrong when a venue has the sweetest kitties to greet you daily!!)

When you have a daughter and three sons like we do, you try to envision hosting a perfect wedding for your only daughter. When Jill got engaged, she wanted a destination wedding with very few people. After discussing options closer in proximity to Cincinnati, our daughter stumbled across Richwood on the River while browsing online. We made an appointment and immediately felt the warmth, care & dedication of the proud owner, Colleen Sutton. Little did we know what awaited - a special relationship and experience far above our expectations.
When we arrived for our tour, we felt so welcomed & were in awe of this beautiful, historical river mansion & knew it was SO unique as well. Colleen is genuine, passionate and hard-working, and has been in the event/hospitality industry for decades. She treats her clients like rockstars, yet runs a tight ship so everything is executed to your wishes & her high standards.
It’s the best value, ‘all-in-one’ experience for the rental fee: wedding planning, on-site accommodations, different options for your ceremony & reception.. and also your rehearsal venue. It was a nice surprise to feel like we were getting an amazing wedding planner included in the price!! She did the follow-ups with our vendors, and, after knowing our wishes & vision for the day, made a detailed timeline, down to the minute & it was incredible. Also, we were provided a portal and seating chart tools. She has a great selection of affordable rental items as well. On the wedding day, she was everywhere, kept us informed, on track and got us down the aisle. We saw her bustling all day and undoubtedly did much more behind the scenes. We had to do nothing and didn’t have a worry - just focused on our daughter’s day. It was flawless in our eyes and we’ve never seen our daughter so happy and calm.
Included in our price, was the entire venue/property - It was ours for two nights, including on-site accommodations for 50 people with continental breakfast on the wedding day! Since the venue was ‘ours’ for the duration, we had our rehearsal dinner there. We selected the pool area, a perfect setting that became more magical as the evening sun set. Endless photo opportunities abound, the grounds are gorgeous & expansive…and they host two adorable horses. Even though it was June, everyone gathered at the fireplace each morning for coffee and each night to relax with a nightcap. To share the entire time with family and friends on-site made it the most memorable! Our other guests enjoyed staying in Madison at the Fairfield Inn Cotton Mill (we hired the Madison Trolley for transportation) and exploring beautiful Madison. We’ve heard so many people say it was one of the best weddings ever.
This is a heartfelt review that can’t begin to depict what a perfectly magical day it was because of Colleen Sutton and Richwood on the River. She won over my daughter who went from dreams of a small wedding to a crowd of 150. Colleen said this quote to Jill - “A wedding is a union of two, but a reunion of many.” So true!
Colleen & Richwood are part of our family now - it’s a place we will carry in our heart & will return through many years to come. Our daughter had her dream destination wedding and we had the memorable reunion of many! Thank you, dear Colleen & your amazing staff at Richwood on the River:).

I never imagined enjoying a day ever in my life as much as I enjoyed Danny and Carson’s wedding at Richwood on the River. And It was because of Colleen Sutton and her wonderful team. Her responsive communication made us feel special the day we contacted her. And Colleen's team continued to take care of us until we drove away Sunday at noon. In a world where TikTok, Pinterest, & Instagram's flood our visions with outlandish weddings that could be. You and your beautiful venue gave us a day only found in our dreams. I could write on and on. About the details, ideas, and guidance Colleen gave us. I am not impressed easily. And coming myself from the wedding industry… I have seen my fair share of disastrous scenarios. The experience and special service at Richwood on the River IMPRESSED Me! If there is a lesson in the wind… it is that this venue allows you to be with the people you love the most. Not just for a few hours, but for a whole magical weekend. Thank you so much for giving us such an epic day. We heard a lot of people say it was the best time, the coolest wedding ever.

Best venue ever!
We had the most perfect wedding weekend thanks to the beautiful Richwood on the River and all of their amazing staff. If you’re looking for a unique venue full of charm and character this is the place! Getting to spend the whole weekend with our friends and family in one place was even more special than we could have imagined. We spent the night before our wedding around the pool with all our favorite people! And the venue is pet friendly so our dog also got to spend the weekend with us. Colleen was so great and so helpful with absolutely everything. She made the whole weekend so stress-free for us and we could not be more thankful to have had her. All of our guests told us how beautiful the venue was and mentioned how kind and helpful everyone was. We would suggest this place to anyone and everyone for their wedding or any event! Richwood on the River will forever be a special place in our hearts. -

Me and my husband recently got married at Richwood on the River on 8/24/24. We wanted to have an intimate wedding where our close friends and family could stay for the entire weekend and when we toured Richwood we felt like it was everything we were looking for. However the weekend far exceeded our expectations. All the staff were amazing, accommodating, professional and made our weekend and wedding run without a hitch. Kelsey was our coordinator and was there all weekend with us and even offered to go and pick up our pizza for rehearsal dinner.
The grounds and accommodations are beautiful comfortable and clean, and we felt like we were at a home away from home.
We had so many compliments from guests on how beautiful and how wonderful all the staff was.
Leading up to the wedding Kelsey was also quick to respond and even thought Colleen was not our main point of contact she was also in contact during times as well.
We had the most magical wedding and weekend spent with our friends and family, and we would recommend Richwood on the River to anyone and everyone. -

Our daughter and her groom had sweet dreams for their 2023 New Year’s Eve Wedding centered around bringing their family and friends together from Louisville and WI, IL, CA, CO, VA, NY, & MO. Richwood on the River was the beautiful setting where their dreams came true.
This destination wedding was a home away from home experience for both of our families. From the first facetime tour with the proprietress Colleen Sutton, to the final detail meeting and all the texts, emails, and phone calls in between, she oversaw every tiny & big detail. Colleen has the finesse, experience, and foresight to handle your event like you have a best friend at your side. We required not just the space for NYE wedding reception but also the accommodations for 42 onsite guests, our rehearsal dinner, a 100-guest welcome reception, the wedding morning breakfast, and a sendoff brunch. Her attention to detail is more than her job, it’s an extension of her calling for genuine hospitality to all that visit. The inn became our home in many respects. Over 4 days, our two families bonded around the huge outdoor fireplace on several nights, broke bread together at the dining room table, and danced & celebrated as a joined family for the new year.
Holding our Welcome Reception in the main house the eve of the wedding was like welcoming all the guests into our own home. The elegant entryway and the illuminated, wreathed windows were a welcoming sight for all our out-of-town guests as they pulled up to the property. We saved the beautiful event space for a grand reveal at the wedding reception, and it was truly grand, wowing the guests with another wonderful experience.
With so, so much going on for one weekend, the schedule ran flawlessly! Colleen, staff and recommended vendors moved about discretely and efficiently. Whenever we needed something, Colleen or a staff member was there in quick response. I’m making this sound very professional when in reality Colleen and her staff were so personable it was like collaborating with family members to be sure everyone was taken care of. This allowed all of us parents the freedom to spend our time enjoy each other’s company and being present for our kids as their dreams came true. We can’t express to Colleen, with all her connections to vendors and local establishments, and all her staff, the amount of gratitude we have for blessing us with the best weekend of our lives! -

Richwood On The River
This is a note to dads. When you are building your wedding budget and looking at different venues, strongly consider Richwood On The River. Why? Colleen and facilities; Richwood gives you so much more.
Approachable, knowledgeable, wise counsel, experienced, trustworthy, engaged, always available and prompt, confident and calm and simply fun to work with are words which describe Colleen. Her determination, planning, and attention to detail is evident in the pre-event meetings. The discipline to make those meetings count is on you because she is definitely engaged. She has decades of experience as a wedding planner and now, venue owner. Every detail will be addressed. And when that day comes, her excitement builds with your daughters to make this the most beautiful and memorable day for her. Day of issues and decisions will be handled unbeknownst to you using her rich history of experience and care. It is most evident that Colleen is doing what she loves which translates into the creation of a wonderful experience in a moment of most importance.
Why Richwood? To have the entire wedding party in one place for the weekend is priceless. The facilities are excellent; the grounds expansive. This intimacy and time “away” without logistic concerns encourages laughter, fun, activities and sharing of stories which enriches the experience for all beyond measure. Fellowship around the fireplaces and during outdoor games was special and unique. So many thanked us numerous times for the experience and I firmly believe it will be a weekend they will always remember, certainly for our daughter and son-in-law.
So if I had my daughters’ day to do over again, I would without reservation and enthusiastically say….YES!! to Colleen and Richwood on the River.

As a bride, I 100% recommend Richwood on the River! I had so many guests come up to me and say they've never been to a more beautiful and unique venue. The venue goes beyond the wedding day - the entire weekend, starting on Friday when we checked in and hung out until rehearsal, the wedding day (obviously!) and Sunday when all those staying on property were able to meet up for breakfast and share memories before checking out - was an absolute dream. To have all your favorite people staying under the same roof for the entire weekend is so special and makes everyone more present with each other; my wedding weekend will forever be a treasured memory for me and I'm so glad we booked Richwood!
Also, Colleen is such a joy to work with and makes your life SO easy, which says a lot because there are countless decisions to make as a bride! She helps you bring your dream wedding to life and makes helpful suggestions without overstepping. After speaking with friends who had weddings at other venues, I can confidently say Colleen is one of a kind and goes above & beyond for her couples! I can't speak highly enough about Richwood and Colleen - love love love! 🥰🤍 -

The wedding of my dreams
Where do I even start... Richwood was an absolute dream venue. Just look at it! Our guests are still talking about it. Colleen and her staff are truly the best! Anything we wanted or needed day or night we were never a burden. We booked this venue over a year from our date and anytime I had a question or needed advice Colleen would respond almost immediately. When I had trouble with vendors she would step in, when I had vendors cancel she was quick to suggest new ones and help me book. Richwood made our wedding weekend easy and effortless. We cannot thank them or praise them enough for every little thing they did along the way to make sure our day was special. We love Richwood 💕 -

My husband and I hosted our daughters wedding at Richwood on the River last month, June 18, and all we can say is WOW! We were beyond happy. The entire experience was PERFECT. From the beginning to the end. We live just across the river, in Madison, and were so excited to welcome so many guests from all over the US to our beautiful town. Richwood was able to accomodate the bride and grooms wedding party and family for three nights. The guests enjoyed the wonderful breakfasts each morning, hung out at the pool and jacuzzi during the day and had cocktails out by the fireplace in the evening. The convenience of the bridal party being at one location, together was incredible. The grooms parents hosted the rehearsal dinner on property in the carriage house. Colleen arranged all the details and staffing to make the night a perfect kick off to the weekend. The wedding was held outside under the most spectacular tent (Advantage Rentals in Covington, KY). The catered dinner for 300 went off seamlessly. Again, Colleen and her staff orchestrated the bars, staffing, food and entertainment effortlessly. As the mother of the bride I was not burdened with one issue or detail the entire weekend. My husband and I were overwhelmed by the attention to detail, the property and the staff. I will start by saying that no words of praise or thanks can quantify my gratitude and respect for Colleen and her unbelievable property, Richwood on the River. Ryan and I hosted our wedding party of 40 on-site all weekend, 100-person rehearsal dinner on Friday, and 250-person wedding on Saturday in October 2021. We were seeking a unique and memorable 'getaway' wedding experience and Richwood gave us exactly that while still allowing the majority of our friends and family to travel to our wedding; most coming from Cincinnati. It was truly the best of both worlds! We have an entire weekend of memories that I will cherish forever; from firepit and playing cards upon arrival Thursday, to hot coffee and breakfast with our favorite people on Friday, and of course an unbelievable wedding reception on Saturday. It was SO FUN being at one location all weekend (with the exception of our wedding mass at the beautiful St. John Carrollton); it was like a mini-vacation for our families and wedding party and such a relief not worrying about daily transportation, constant bag packing, being on time or wondering where someone is at, cleaning up rooms and houses, etc.
In addition to renting the property all weekend, we utilized ROTR bartenders, some furniture rental, china, dinnerware, décor items, and more. It was super convenient to rent direct and truthfully a big cost savings. We were able to bring in our own alcohol all weekend which, again, was a huge cost savings, and allowed us to have some fun with signature cocktails, specialty bourbon bar, etc. Madison Trolley (suggested by Colleen) shuttled 100+ guests back and forth to the new Fairfield Inn in Madison, which our guests thoroughly enjoyed.
Richwood on the River is the most beautiful canvas which allows couples to create their dream weekend. No idea or inspiration is too crazy; Colleen will help you work through it or connect you with people who can assist. Through eleven months of planning, I can confidently say that neither Ryan or I ever waited more than five minutes for a text, email or call reply from Colleen; I don't know how she does but, but she is a rockstar. Upon booking, I did not realize what an unbelievable asset Colleen was going to be, but was the glue to our entire weekend.
I could go on and on, but will summarize with this: While hosting an entire weekend, juggling dozens of vendors, and planning multiple events was a lot of work, I absolutely cannot imagine doing it anywhere else. So many brides give the advice, "enjoy it, because it goes so fast", but I never once felt that. We embraced an entire weekend of celebrations with our loved ones, and while I was sad to leave Richwood on Sunday morning, I know we'll be back for future anniversaries, getaways, or even just a Sunday afternoon drive and wave. -

Absolute dream wedding July 2012...we rented entire plantation for 3 days, our family and friends and wedding party were able to stay at the beautiful cabins and main house rooms. We held the rehearsal dinner night before and everyone was able to relaxe and spend quality time. My husband and I had a private cabin to ourselves. It was absolutely the most beautiful place you could imagine to start a new life and unite 2 families!! -

Simply Amazing
Colleen and Lexi were absolutely amazing anticipating needs at every turn and working non stop literally every time I saw them. The grounds were in top quality shape despite having a wedding just two days earlier. The rooms offered all the comforts of home and even though we had 30 people staying there in total it never felt crowded. Plenty of space for our dog who although playful and needy lol was always treated like a paying customer. I can’t express enough how detail oriented and thoughtful Colleen was for us. I work in this industry as a executive chef and honestly can say I was impressed with all the staff and their performance. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a dream wedding it was second to none -

Awesome Wedding and Rehearsal Weekend
We dreamed of a full wedding weekend with our bridal party at an awesome beautiful venue where no one had to leave once they showed up. We got that and more. Richwood is the absolute perfect wedding venue! Colleen and Kelsey were awesome to work with, answering all our questions big or small, morning or night. And on the day of the wedding they did not stop working, despite the (very hot) heat. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and DOG FRIENDLY. The mansion rooms were perfect for our guests who appreciate the history of the place and the cabins were spot-on for our bridal party and the young families staying with us. They have great recommendations for vendors, everything from flowers to food to photography. The staff were kind, helpful, and accommodating. We really did feel like it was ours for the weekend. The kids played in the pool, we played corn hole in the yard, and had breakfast in the mansion every morning. It was everything we wanted and we don’t even know all the things they did behind the scenes. For example, we held our rehearsal dinner on Friday with a completely different setup and linens (provided by the venue) from Saturday and the staff had it completely flipped for us to have plenty of time to reset the tables Saturday. They made our dream come true down to the smallest details we discussed during planning meetings. We can’t say enough about the small things like Kelsey repeatedly bringing water to the bride during rehearsal and keeping things moving. I HIGHLY recommend Richwood on the River as a wedding venue if you are looking for an indoor/outdoor venue with accommodations. -

We fell in love with Richwood on the River the moment we saw it, and after meeting Colleen, we knew that it was where we wanted to get married. The grounds, the beautiful mansion house, rolling green hills, and the Ohio River were just the backdrop we were looking for. The interior spaces are comfortable and with all of our family coming in from out of town, we loved that we could make it a whole wedding weekend without leaving the property. We stayed for the 3 nights around the wedding and everyone at Richwood made us feel like family.
When we decided to get married in July 2020, we never could have imagined that we would be hosting a wedding in the middle of a pandemic. The presence of the Richwood team, and particularly Colleen, was comforting as we navigated the unknown in the weeks and days leading up to the big day. We wanted to take all of the necessary precautions for keeping guests safe during the pandemic and her team didn't miss a beat. Colleen’s organization is unmatched and she is able to anticipate needs and act upon them. We absolutely loved all of the recommended vendors we worked with and the Richwood team was in contact with them to make the day ran smoothly. Colleen does whatever she can to make everything special. She is pleasant to work with, professional, quick to respond, and a wonderful person all around. A million thanks to everyone at Richwood on the River - we hope to see you soon. We highly recommend Richwood on the River for any event, and wish we could get married there every year! -

Richwood on the River... Where to begin, first of all I am so thankful I stumbled upon this gem whilst on my search for beautiful mansions. Colleen and Nicole are who we made initial contact with to schedule our tour and complete aforementioned tour. They were very warm and inviting people. We had 100 questions (after touring 4 other venues and realizing there was often a lot of fine print and additional fees at every turn) but Nicole answered each of our questions with confidence and understanding. After realizing how much the Richwood team could help with and take off our plate we happily sent in our deposit. The lines of communication remained open in the 11 months proceeding this interaction (which for me was paramount as many vendors I came into contact with would agree to provide their services and then not respond or send a contract. Upon our arrival, Friday, Hannah and Colleen were very helpful in letting us know where to put our decor and wedding essentials. They helped up direct our guest to their rooms as the arrived and even helped my mother-in-law set up for our rehearsal dinner. On the day of the wedding Nicole and Hannah handled SO MUCH. Nicole made sure all of our vendors arrived on time, knew where to be and were set up on time. Hannah made sure all of the decor/tables/chairs and any wedding essentials were in place. They were truly a dream and I am so thankful I picked the Richwood. Our guest enjoyed hanging out on the grounds during the weekend stay, we enjoyed the hot tub and really were just at ease for the whole weekend. If you are on the fence I highly recommend making the leap and having your wedding at Richwood on the River. -

This was the most fantastic place ever to have our holiday weekend wedding. The staff was amazing they cater to all of our needs they took care of all the details even the smallest of details that myself as a bride didn't even think about. They were so professional, caring and all around awesome people! I would not have changed a thing about the entire weekend it was so amazing and so perfect and I am still on cloud nine.

Colleen and her staff make you feel at home from the first visit. The wedding coordinators made everything run smoothly. As the mother of the bride, I got to spend my time enjoying the entire weekend. The staff took care of everything from setting out tables to cutting the cake. If you have the chance to stay as a B & B guest, the ladies are tremendous cooks!!! I would recommend Ricjwwod to anyone who wants a romantic, comfortable, welcoming venue for the wedding of their dreams!

Jessica Sent on 11/13/2017We got married at Richwood on 11.4.17. It was the fairytale setting for any wedding. The charm of the place is truly amazing! Everyone absolutely loved it and many of our guests have made plans to come back and take advantage of the bed and breakfast. We rented the whole place for the weekend and had our immediate family and bridal party stay. Colleen and Kelsey are extremely helpful and easy to talk to. I asked kelsey a million questions in the months prior to our wedding and she was very helpful every time. Anything I asked of them they were able to accommodate or to make suggestion. I would recommend Richwood to anyone! They are amazing!! Day of the wedding everything was crazy but Kelsey was able to navigate us through and everything went off without a hitch!! -

At our final details meeting Colleen covered everything you could possibly imagine. There was no way anything was going to be left out. I also felt so free to communicate with both Colleen and Kelsey throughout this entire planning process. I always felt so important to them as they responded quickly and thoroughly.
We rented the property for the entire weekend of the wedding, and our immediately family and bridal family loved staying on the property. Colleen was unbelievably helpful throughout. I always felt like my wedding weekend was her number one priority, no matter what. She is professional, fun, organized, and kind.
The morning of the wedding things got a little stressful (as I imagine many weddings due), but particularly as the threat of rain increased throughout the day. I was set on having our ceremony outdoors, but also beyond overwhelmed at making the decision to potentially postpone the wedding 15 mins or more. Colleen knew exactly what to do and made the call and had her staff out drying chairs and we were able to have our ceremony outside as planned!!! I 100% attribute that win to Colleen and the ceremony was perfect. She had already worked with our DJ/MC to make sure we still had music at the ceremony site even though he couldn't set his equipment up as originally planned. Everything went off without a hitch, as if we had planned it this way from the start.
The carriage house is also a gorgeous setting for the wedding reception. We went to max capacity with our guest list (approx. 150) and the room fit everyone perfectly. It felt intimate without feeling cramped.
I feel like I could write a book about all of the wonderful details about Richwood (in fact, it looks like I already have), but in all seriousness, I am incredibly pleased with our choice of venue, and thankful to the staff who made it unforgettable! -
