  Superb string band for our DC wedding

  A sophisticated and approachable string band. They wield a wide variety in their repertoire, and they learned a song outside of that repertoire for our special occasion then performed it well. I have only positive things to say about this band.

  This experience just couldn’t have been better!

  It would be hard for me to overstate what Plum Blossom Music added to our Wedding event!
  Throughout the planning process we worked with Peter to find a flow between the Ceremony & the Cocktail hour—each creating different feelings but with seamless continuity. Peter was very accessible, responsive and facile in his thinking with us about what we were hoping to create and how we could do that within our budget.
  While he was a consummate professional he was also very friendly with a grounding influence!
  Clearly, Peter knows a lot about the issues of amplification for his music and, with the Ceremony being outside and the Cocktail Hour inside, that was important ! He joined our ‘team’ and was helpful in thinking about additional mics for the ceremony and the placement of his group at the Venue too.
  All that being said, those were important practical issues I knew little about before this Wedding Event so it gave me confidence that he was paying attention to the details, took pride in what he was doing and that I could trust him.
  Then there was the music—-It was simply beautiful.
  Whether the Trio was performing the Ceremony’s processional (which they’ve likely done 1000 times) or a quick beat “hillbilly” piece during the Cocktail Hour, they were engaged, vibrant and fun to have as part of our event!
  I believe that when anyone does their work artfully, they can make it look easy!
  These musicians made it look easy—they were artists from start to finish!

  Wonderful experience with The Early Grove String Band

  The Early Grove String Band played at our outdoor brunch reception. It's hard for me me to put into words exactly what they added to the day but I do know that the day wouldn't have been the same or nearly as special without them there. The music was lovely and perfect for the kind of event we had, the musicians had a really nice energy about them (it felt like having friends there), and they seamlessly added to and elevated the event.
  
  The entire exploration and booking process with Peter was very pleasant and easy- Peter provided enough information about the different musical groups for me to easily make a decision.
  
  Highly recommend for any event!

  Highly recommend - great music from a group of passionate professionals!

  Plum Blossom did a fantastic job playing music at our ceremony and cocktail hour! They were incredibly responsive throughout the planning process, and tailored the music to our taste and feedback. I would highly recommend Plum Blossom to those looking for a professional, skillful quartet for wedding festivities!

  Plum Blossom String Quartet played for our daughter’s wedding ceremony and cocktail hour on 10/14/17. I made the initial contact through Sam Hill Entertainment but my daughter took over from there. Peter was very responsive, very eager to play the type of music she wanted and even agreed to learn two new songs (which we paid an extra fee for the purchase of the music). They were extremely professional and very easy to work with. All of the music they played was absolutely beautiful and set such a nice mood for the ceremony as well as the cocktail hour. We have received many compliments about their performance. We would highly recommend them if you are looking for beautiful string music. You will not disappointed. Would love to work with them again should the opportunity arise.

  It was wonderful working with Peter, who coordinated the details of the Plum Blossom String Trio music for my wedding ceremony and cocktail hour.   Early Grove String Band played as a duo for our wedding, playing Appalachian music with fiddle, banjo and guitar. They were AMAZING and absolutely perfect for our small wedding. Peter was accommodating, friendly, and professional, and on the day they showed up on time and knew what to do, which was a great help. Their music was just right for us and they learned my favourite piece for the ceremony. Not a note was out of place despite the 10,000 noseeums. I cannot recommend them enough!! Thank you so much for making our day so special. You were the icing on the cake and our friends and family loved you guys. 11/10!

  Oh my! there are no words to describe this amazing quartet, their versatility, professionalism and personal touch. One gets the feeling that your wedding is the only one they perform and prepare for all summer! For a year prior to our daughter's wedding, Peter and I were communicating regarding, music selection, duet music accompaniment, diversity of selections for the pre wedding music and cocktail hour. Peter even got caught in a down pour before the wedding began! With so many details to attend to and the music setting the mood for the ceremony and evening, it was priceless to have them so present and willing to give their all. Peter and the quartet took care of everything , catering to our detailed musical requests, making adjustments to give the ceremony flow, giving advice and then blessing it all with their musical talent.   Plum Blossom String Quartet provided a wonderful evening of music for my daughters wedding on April 8, 2016. As a musician myself, I was very impressed with their skill and professionalism as well as their broad repertoire. They played not only the more traditional music, but also The Imperial March from Star Wars for the groom. They helped create a most memorable occasion. In addition, they were delightful to work with- always available to answer any questions- so so nice during such a fun yet hectic time.

  Words can't express what a wonderful experience it was working with Peter. Communication throughout the planning process was clear and very prompt. The music was flawless.   Plum Blossom Quartet (well, we had a Trio!) swooped in and SAVED THE BIG DAY and I am eternally grateful. The week of our wedding, our string quartet canceled; I was devastated because this was the one thing I really, really wanted as part of the ceremony. Peter Markush completely saved the day, finding amazing musicians who were even willing to play a special selection at very late notice. We were incredibly impressed and grateful for their professional and reasonable services. Would recommend them a million times over.

  I can't say enough great things about Peter and Plum Blossom! We initially contacted Peter for classical music for our ceremony - of everything I heard online, Plum Blossom sounded by far the best. When Peter mentioned that they could also do bluegrass/Appalachian music, I immediately booked them for the cocktail hour as well. Peter was so easy to work with throughout the planning process, and proactively gave us suggestions for certain parts of the ceremony. On the day of, he and the other musicians were punctual and professional. Despite some logistical changes due to the weather, Peter and Plum Blossom impressed us and our guests with their beautiful music (especially our not-so-classical choice for the Recessional)! I just wish I had been able to stick around the cocktail hour to enjoy more of the fun bluegrass music! I would definitely recommend Plum Blossom to anyone planning a wedding in the Charlottesville area.

  I had my wedding at Ash Lawn Highland and was planning my wedding from out of state. Peter Markush was absolutely amazing with helping me from far away! I am not gifted with musical vocabulary, but I knew what I wanted at the wedding and Mr. Markush helped me translate my jumbled ideas into a vision for the day. On their website, they had sample music pieces. This made it easy for me (planning from states away) as I knew exactly what it could sound like. Mr. Markush helped me come up with ideas for which music pairs nicely with the processional/recessional/etc... When I realized during the rehearsal, that the space I thought via pictures would be big enough for the band was in fact not big enough for the band; I was able to talk with Mr. Markush about moving where the band would be and he was so flexible and fantastic! The price is exceedingly reasonable for the Plum Blossom String Trio and the quality of their playing is just amazing! I cannot share how much it set the mood to have such lovely music played in the gardens while we were married. Thank you Plum Blossom Music!!

  5 Stars isn't enough!! The Plum Blossom group turned my wedding ceremony into the perfect fairytale. I was completely blown away by how beautifully they played. I had a specific, non-traditional Irish song in mind for the processional (Pastures New by Nickel Creek) and Peter and his other talented musicians were happily willing to learn it for me. No sheet music was available, so they even had to prepare it just by listening to a You Tube recording. I was hiding up in the loft of the ballroom waiting for the ceremony to begin when I first heard them practice it. I was completely overwhelmed with how perfect it sounded.. they nailed it, even with different instruments than the original. I started to cry from happiness as I listened. It was that moment that it really hit me, I was about to marry my soul mate, and that was my song.   We wanted a three piece classical group for our ceremony music. After hearing them play on their website, we decided to keep them for the cocktail hour music as well. They can play some mean bluegrass, and they are very flexible if you have requests.

Peter performed at our ceremony and during the reception. Per our request, Peter played his original music as well as recognized song selections. Peter even took time to learn a Don Henley song that we requested for our first dance - to which he played and sang. Throughout the evening Peter played the piano, chello, guitar and fiddle. This variety of instruments made for unique musical enjoyment for our guests - and we loved it too! Peter is extremely talented, friendly, professional and easy to work with. I highly recommend Peter and his talents for your wedding or any event. Thank you Peter!!

  We were very happy to hire Peter and the other two members of the Plum Blossom String Trio to provide music during our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. We never met in person prior to the event and all of our discussion took place over email. Although it might take a couple days to receive a response via email (to be fair, it would take me a couple days to respond to his emails as well), Peter was extremely easy to work with in terms of planning. He was respectful of our budget and offered suggestions to fit our needs. We went back and forth countless times in order to balance more traditional wedding ceremony music with more upbeat/Appalachian music for the cocktail hour (had many suggestions for both). We chose a few specific pieces for certain moments during the ceremony; otherwise left it to the trio to choose what they thought was most appropriate – and couldn’t have been happier.

  It really pains me to write such a bad review for Peter, since he seemed very nice & professional before the wedding. The day of my wedding, he showed up at the venue about 15 minutes late and when he got there he realized that he did not have his instrument. He had to go home to get it which made our wedding at least 45 minutes late. When he did play, it sounded very bad. Wrong notes were hit numerous times. I heard from others that he played very well when he was going off of memory, but the times he was reading the music was when he really seemed to mess up. I would have been able to tolerate the tardiness, but the quality of the music did not make up for it. I heard that he did take the time to try to tune the instrument before starting, so it's not that. He did apologize though (for the tardiness) and I got a refund
