We hired PJ to do our engagement photos in CO and when he found out our wedding was going to be in MN, he was all for making the trip! We worked out travel arrangements and gave him a place to stay for the weekend and he became a part of our family! He produced spectacular photos of our big day and captured the moments that really mattered. He's just a great person!! He went above and beyond with our engagement shoot to get all of the shots he wanted as well as shot our wedding day until late at night. We had to tell him on numerous occasions to put the camera down, grab a drink, and party! He was a great communicator throughout the entire process and really got to know Riley and I so we were comfortable around him during some of our more intimate moments. He shot the day all by himself and didn't miss a moment that needed to be captured. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! -

So professional, so talented, and so much fun!
PJ is such a talented photographer and just so much fun to work with. We got married in the Texas hill country but it was really important to us that PJ shoot our wedding day, and we were really grateful he was willing to come to Texas! He knows how to make you feel comfortable and is incredible at capturing the true essence of the day. As I’m sure with a lot of weddings, we got a bit behind on time (by a good hour…) but PJ was totally flexible and prepared to still get the shots he knew were really important to us. We were so surprised when we got our photos at just how well he did capture our day—from photos of so many of our guests dancing and just having fun to those really special moments between my husband and me, and everything in between. It was fun remembering moments through the photos that we had totally forgotten or missed! He cares so much about making his clients happy, and that really comes through both in his photos and how hard he works. He also shot our engagement session in the Colorado mountains, and he clearly knew and researched some of the best shots in the area. We are so grateful to PJ. Thank you for perfectly capturing our day! Memories and photos we will get to enjoy forever. -

Breckenridge Elopement!
Not only is PJ talented, shown through his portfolio, but he is also one of the most fun, electric photographers my husband and I have ever worked with. We traveled from Texas to elope in the Breckenridge mountains. Hiring a separate photographer and videographer can be daunting, but PJ took the lead and made sure he and our videographer shared a similar vision for our day. He made sure we were stress-free, relaxed but made the most of our time. PJ delivered a timely preview and portfolio within the set contract dates. He was communicative, and we genuinely felt like we made a friend on our wedding day. Also, as someone who has an overbearing mother who wants her way, PJ did a phenomenal job pleasing her wishes for certain shots but also taking control and setting boundaries around his expertise. I would recommend him to any friend or family, no matter the family dynamics. -

Having PJ photograph our wedding was amazing. Every shot was taken with the utmost thoughtfulness and care. The quality of our pictures are stunning. PJ was awesome! He shot our wedding July 2021 and did a wonderful job. Though there were plenty of snags, PJ was flexible and worked hard to make sure we captured the important and beautiful moments. PJ accommodated our elopement including hiking a few miles in to a remote area and delivered the best photos of us we've ever gotten taken. We wanted a private feeling for eloping and he did an amazing job of getting photos of everything without us even noticing he was there at times. Friends and family have been blown away with the photos and we can't wait to get a lot of them printed and hung on the wall and into a photo album. -

Our Elopement Dream Come True
When my fiancé and I decided to travel to Colorado to elope, we realized that we might want a local photographer for the occasion. I was given the recommendation through Facebook to check out PJ Van Schalkwyk’s website and his photos. We were blown away by the images on the site. But we were even more impressed with how quickly PJ responded to my initial inquiry and the professional level of communication continued from there! We set up several phone meetings to discuss the options and his services and it was such an added benefit to have his experience with various outdoor options across the state to help us narrow down where we wanted to be for our ceremony. Spending such a special day with PJ was a treat! He had already been very personable in our phone calls, but we hung out that day as if we were old friends. It was such a fun time and he was serious about the shots he wanted to get, but still somehow a very laidback person to be with at the same time. It was very easy and natural to be shooting all of these photos with him. And then we got our photos! First, let me say that what we really liked about his work when we looked into photographers was that he clearly understood how to work with what nature offered to make some outstanding outdoor pictures, which is the goal when you are heading to the mountains to get married. But we still were not ready for how much magic he was able to capture in our pictures!! The photos were everything that we had hoped for and more! We seriously cannot pick a singular favorite because they are all so amazing! Everyone that we know has told us that they look like they belong in a magazine or like we are part of a movie! Honestly, if you are looking to have some stunning images taken, I highly suggest working with PJ. I never dreamed our wedding photos would look halfway as majestic as they turned out to be! We are so glad that we got pointed in his direction!! -

Top notch Colorado wedding photographer!
If you’re searching for a wedding photographer in Colorado, PJ is the one!
From the start, PJ took the time to get to know us as clients and was so easy to talk to. His calm demeanor and witty conversation helped ease any nerves and camera shyness.
He was up for any adventure and handled all the curve balls we were thrown. Our engagement session was in Rocky Mountain National Park in January, and somehow even with 20 mph winds he made us look like models.
His pricing was fair and fit right within our budget. PJ was meticulous, well-organized, and stuck to his schedules and timelines for photo editing. He was easy to reach and had great communication.
For our wedding day PJ was able to catch all the must-have shots and more, even as a solo photographer. Our photos ended up being the perfect set of natural poses and candid shots, which all felt effortless.
PJ’s photos are truly a work of art and we will cherish them forever! -

PJ is a phenomenal photographer, and really goes the extra mile for his clients. We did his package with engagement pictures as well and we have nothing but amazing things to say about him. He stayed the whole night of our wedding making sure to capture photos of everything! The pictures turned out absolutely perfect and we feel so lucky he captured our special day. He was very low stress while making sure we got the photos we wanted plus more. The amount of photos you get for the price is well worth it. We had to postpone our wedding due to COVID-19 this past year and PJ was SO easy to work with, as we rescheduled our wedding.
