Words cannot express how amazing Hanakapi'ai is! She was a pleasure to work with before our wedding day, very responsive and had no issues when we had to reschedule our wedding date. Then on my wedding day she was beyond incredible. The moments she captured were absolutely amazing and she went un-noticed while capturing all of these moments. When we received our photos back we were speechless. She sent sneak peek photos in less than two days, sent our full album in two weeks and we have received an overwhelming amount of compliments from guests and family that could not attend on how beautiful the images are. This was truly the greatest experience with a vendor and I would recommend anyone getting married in Kauai to choose Hanakapi'ai as your photographer.

Can’t say enough about Hanakapi’ai!!!
You will not regret hiring Hanakapi’ai as your photographer! She did the photography for our wedding day- leading up to the wedding day she was very responsive and detailed and answered any questions or concerns I had. I really wanted to try out the rustic/bohemian style of photography for wedding pictures and she went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make sure everything was just right. She sent me different variations of edits to help achieve the look I was going for and never made me feel that I was burdening her when I wanted to tweak the edits a bit more until they were perfect. She did an incredible job achieving the rustic look I was going for which goes to show her talent in being able to cater to any photography style ! I cannot wait to see the final pictures and being grateful for Hanakapi’ai that she was able to translate the emotion from our wedding day so we’ll into pictures that we will cherish forever. Also I need to mention she was almost 8 months pregnant and she was still getting on the ground lying down to capture the perfect shot!!! Crazy! Such a treasure to work with :). Christian Jungle Wedding
Hanakapi'ai and her husband made us have the most wonderful christian wedding we could imagine.
She took the photos, while her husband, who is a pastor performed the ceremony. From the moment we met at the location, we felt like we were among friends. It never seemed as if he just performed the ceremony like any other ceremony any day of the year, but it always felt very personal, while she took the most stunning photos. Her ideas were great and she fulfilled every wish we had and she never gave us the feeling that she was a photogapher who does this every day as a job, but it felt like she was a friend who really wanted to be there.
For us they are a very inspiring couple and we are happy that we got to meet them.

After looking through many portfolios, I had narrowed it down to three photographers. I asked a friend of mine that is a photographer to look at my choices and give me his professional opinion. Of the three, he chose Hanakapi’ai noting several things about her photography that he liked.
Hanakapi’ai was so much fun to work with. She has a great sense of humor which made the photo shoot fun and less awkward. My husband and I aren’t ones for doing the traditional posed photos. We wanted to show the fun, easy going side of who we are. She captured the vibrant colors and the natural beauty of our wedding venue. I wish I would have booked her longer to capture more of the reception/party. Hanakapi’ai also provided our sneak peak to our photos in a short time. We love our photos!

My husband and I had our honeymoon in Kauai and decided to have a photo shoot while we were there. Hanakapi’ai was so sweet, flexible, kind, and professional. Her and her husband were so much fun to be with. We were more than pleased with our images as well.
We were most impressed with her knowledge of the island as she’s a local having grown up on the island. I was also amazed by her talent and eye for photography! The photos she took were incredible! If you need a photographer on that beautiful island, she’s the one!

They were very flexible, easy to talk to, quick at getting back to me, and made sure we had the perfect vow renewal with our 3 children. I loved the beach location she picked, it could not have been any more perfect! I love every single photo she took that I have no idea how I am going to choose which ones to put on my wall! I would definitely recommend Hanakapi'ai and if we ever make it back to Kauai I would have her do our family pictures again!

Hanakapi'ai was an excellent choice for our March 2018 intimate destination wedding on Polihale Beach! She is personable, very responsive in answering questions throughout the entire process, listens to what you want (sent her a link to a Pinterest board with photo styles we were looking for aside from the "normal" ceremony photos --sunset, artsy, silhouettes, etc), and made us very comfortable with the process during our event so we looked natural. She had our sneak peek out to us quickly so we could share our day with family and friends, and our full album was ready before she had promised. She truly has a gift and that artistic eye. My husband and I had never been to Hawaii, and decided that we wanted to get married in Hawaii at Shipwreck Beach. Hanakapi’ai was very professional to work with. She was a quiet presence throughout the day of getting ready, ceremony, and as we enjoyed the reception snapping pictures the whole time. Our private shots were done so beautifully with the ocean and near by ships in the background. She has an eye for the perfect picture and poses you for the perfect shot and all at the same time making it fun and making you get lost in your partners gaze and kiss without realizing she is snapping away. She gave me a sneak peak of photos right away and had the rest when we got back from our honeymoon. I would and do refer her for any wedding.

My husband and I got married in Kapa'a on October 23rd at the Courtyard Marriott and Hanakapi'ai was our photographer. She made everything so easy for us. Neither of us love posing for pictures but Hanakapi'ai made it easy and fun like a game. She was easy to talk to and easy to work with and we loved her. Before we got to Hawaii she and I communicated via email and phone and she was very responsive. Her hubby came along to help us all out and got some great shots of the reception while Hanakapi'ai was at the ceremony. They made a great team! Our photos came out better than I could have expected - we had a huge tropical storm ALL day and it they couldn't have come out more perfect. We are so pleased!

We hired Hanakapi'ai to photograph our trash the dress session on our honeymoon in Hawaii. From the very beginning, we loved her! She was a huge help to us since we live in Michigan and needed help with locations, the timing of the sunset and ideas for what she thought we could do. Hanakapi'ai is amazing! If you're wondering if her photos actually look as good as what she's posted here- they look even better! She is very knowledgeable about all the best locations and gave us some awesome options. Never having professional photos taken before, she made us feel very comfortable and had brilliant suggestions for poses that didn't look too posed.
She answered all of my questions in a timely manner and never left me hanging.
When we had to change our date only days before due to hurricanes, she was able to accommodate us and did so with a smile! She was one of the nicest people I've ever met which made us feel very comfortable and that definitely comes across in the photos.
The price was actually very reasonable for the quality. I had contacted several other photographers on the island who, when they finally got back to me after I booked Hanakapi'ai, were more than double the price for half the quality.

We highly reccomended Hanapaki'ai photography for special events. They were a part of our wedding in Kauai and they did an outstanding job!!! We couldn't be happier with our precious pictures.
A wedding is such a special day so the memories are so important, and not only did they come out perfectly but we didn't have to worry about making sure they were getting the right shots. At that moment your not thinking about, "did we get a shot of the centerpieces pieces and decor?" They got all the shots we wanted. They even sent us some pictures the very next day to hold us over until they were all ready.
They are professional and extremely kind. We would definitely use them again for any other special event in our lives. We already want to book them for our 1 year anniversary in Kauai :)

I am so thankful that Photography by Hanakapi'ai photographed our wedding a couple months ago! I always loved Hanakapi'ai's bright, colorful pictures, and that is exactly the style of pictures we received from our wedding day. She is a pleasure to work with and had good ideas for places and poses for the photo shoot following our wedding ceremony but was always open to suggestions. We could not have been more happy with the photos Hanakapi'ai took of our wedding and "trash the dress" session. Everyone thinks they look too good to be real (like we had a green screen). She was willing to work with our requests as well as give her own creative ideas. Both she and her husband/assistant were very friendly and personable and instantly made everyone feel comfortable. Hanakapi'ai did an amazing job from start to finish. She's very friendly, helpful and professional, and did great job communicating expectations throughout the entire process. My guests even commented on how lovely she was and comfortable she made them feel. The photos turned out amazing as well, we couldn't have asked for more. She, and her husband (assistant), were amazing. She was super responsive to all my ideas before we met, so easy to communicate, and flexible when our location changed 2 days before the wedding.
On top of that, she was willing to drive 50 minutes to a second location to take photos. She incorporated our ideas and provided so many wonderful ones of our own. If we liked a piece of scenery, it got worked it. She was amazing!
Everyone who has seen our sneak peek told us it looks like a fairy tale! I was ecstatic just from the preview and I cannot wait for all the photos!

Mr. and Mrs. Grosse are a great wedding team, down to earth, wonderful people. Mr. Grosse ceremony was a true Christian biblical ceremony which is what we wanted. It was important to us to have our wedding blessed by a minister that truly walks with the lord. Mrs. Groess being a native to the island helped pick to the perfect location. We told her what we wanted and it was exactly what we envisioned. She took her time to capture our moment and made sure we had great pictures. We feel like our special day was blessed by a great Christian couple with great biblical meaning and amazing photos.

i was visiting Kauai with my fiancé for vacation and we wanted to get our engagement pictures taken while on island. After researching several photographers, Hanakapi'ai was my favorite by far. The photographs she presented on her website were beautiful, artistic and thoughtful. Luckily, she had availability during our stay!
Before we arrived, Hanakapi'ai was very responsive to emails and she offered multiple suggestions for location. Coordinating an exact time and place to meet was simple. Her husband Nathan accompanied her during the shoot to help and, upon meeting them, we were greeted with hugs. They were both so warm and friendly, which leaves you feeling more like a good friend than a client. The shoot itself was great. Both my fiancé and I felt totally comfortable and we never felt awkward. Hanakapi'ai made sure to take all of the pictures that we had asked for in advance and she had so many ideas for additional pictures. Here ideas were creative and gave great pictures. We were extremely happy with the finished product. She went out of her way to edit even the smallest details and she shows so much pride in her work.
I would happily work with her again and would recommend her to any of my family and friends. I only wish she lived in San Diego, so that she could also photograph my wedding!

Besides the amazing photos my wife and I got, the fun of working with Hanakapi'ai was just as amazing. She was more than willing to reschedule our original day due to stormy weather and also provide us with knowledge about the best times and places to get the photos taken. She made us feel as though we have known her for years and she wasn't afraid to try new photographic approaches which captured exactly what my wife and I were wanting. Even more.
We feel blessed to have the experience and memories that went along with it, and are forever thankful to Hanakapi'ai each time we look at our photos.
One more thing, it didn't take long at all before we got to view our photos. The delivery time was excellent.

My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in Hawaii. We decided to renew our wedding vows and FINALLY hire a photographer, as 10 years ago we didn't have enough money to do so. I appreciated that Hanakapi'ai recommended a beautiful location to do our photography shoot, even visiting the site the evening before to make sure it would be beautiful, as the week had been awfully cloudy and rainy. The pictures came out flawless! And we couldn't have beaten the price! Photographers charge well over 3X the amount she did! And she gave us more pictures than she even agreed to! We couldn't have been happier! She was very sweet to work with as well.

Hanakapi'ai was amazing. I was trying to surprise my wife with a wedding vow renewal and photo session for our ten year anniversary, and there were some last minute cancellation. So I reached out to them and they dropped everything to make our anniversary an evening to remember. She worked with us for about two hours to get the most amazing shots. The photos were fabulous and breath taking. She is extremely affordable and very professional.

Hanakapiai did our engagement photos. After seeing the results of them and speaking to her we had no doubt in our mind that she would be the one to do our wedding photos.
It actually was the least thing I had to worry about in preparation for the wedding, because every picture she takes just comes out AMAZING!!!
She has such a sweet and easy disposition that made us feel really comfortable working with her during our special day.
When we received our pictures, we could not hold back the tears of joy. She managed to captured the very essence of each precious moment.

We were so pleased with the photography of our vow renewal ceremony by Hanakapi'ai! She was so easy and fun to work with. Two other couples vacationing with us also renewed their vows. We were immeasurably blessed by our photos! Initially we were a little self conscious and only wanted a few pictures but when we saw how God has gifted Hanakapiai we were so moved. I'm always surprised at how expensive photography is. Having said that; Hanakapi'ai was so fun to work with. The half day we spent with her running around the island is one of the fondest memories of our wedding and honeymoon in Hawaii. We would recommend her to anybody!

One star is generous. Do your homework. There are so many wonderful, talented, kind photographers on the island of Kauai and Hanakapai'i is NOT one of them. She should hang up her camera and call it. Her heart is not there, moody and not engaging. Just a paycheck for this lady. We were tricked by our phone interview. You have been warned. DO NOT TRUST HER with your special day!
