    Great experience

Karen is such a sweet lady and was a joy to work with!! She was extremely flexible with our re-schedule and executed everything perfectly for our big day at Chatham Bars Inn. My family owns a florist in NJ, so flowers were definitely a big deal for us!! My bouquet was truly stunning, as were our centerpieces and everything else that Karen made. A couple of months prior we asked Karen if she would do 10 centerpieces for our welcome dinner the night before, and she delivered on this as well! They were exactly what I had pictured. We were able to use our reception centerpieces again at our brunch and they were just as beautiful the next day. Through working with Karen I learned that she only commits herself to one wedding every weekend, so she will be giving you all of her attention. I know this past year has been tough on everybody especially our florists, so thank you so much Karen for all that you did, and I cannot recommend your work enough!!!

    Petals by the Sea's reply:

Thank you so much for your review! It was an absolute pleasure talking and working with you and your family. Best wishes to you all!

    Absolutely amazing!

Karen is amazing to work with and her floral designs are absolutely beautiful! Not only was she flexible when we had to change our wedding date from May to August, but also had to make day of changes to our arch arrangements due to tropical storm winds. I currently live out of state and Karen was great to work with by phone and email. The bouquets she made were gorgeous and all of our guests were gushing over her centerpieces. Cannot thank Karen enough for making our day extra special!

    Petals by the Sea's reply:

Thank you! I aim to please....and like working with my Brides from start to finish. As this year was a challenge to everyone....the personal way seems to work best for me to make sure things are perfect. Wishing you both the best! Karen.

    Great, budget-friendly experience!

Karen was incredible to work with - very responsive and accommodating throughout the planning process. The flowers were delivered on-time on my wedding day and exceeded my expectations. Also, Karen was respectful of my modest budget. She stuck to it without pressuring me to spend more, and helped me to find flowers that worked well with the space, time of year, wedding theme, cost, etc. without ever making me feel "less than" because I didn't want to spend a lot. I would recommend her to anyone getting married in Cape Cod, hands-down!

Karen just did our wedding on 9/25/11. She did such an amazing job. Incredibly fair price and the presentation of everything was perfect, from boutinnaires to the huppah to the cake table...all perfect. Easy to work with, very friendly, if you're at all nice to her, she will give it back to you tenfold. I would never hesitate to work with Karen again for any event of any size.

The review right before mine (Jenna who didn't get what she ordered) is an anomaly, from what I can tell. Look around the web and you will find that everyone always has great things to say about Karen's work. You can add me to that list. And think about it - I'm the groom. This is bride territory. Guys just don't care much about flowers. True about myself too - but Karen at Petals by the Sea was just above and beyond. So much so that I'm actually taking the time to write about it.

Karen helped me with my florals, planning a wedding from Denver. I had to rely on photos of her work to get any idea of what she could provide. The arrangements were beautiful and as perfect as could be. The arch she provided with the fabric and flowers was so incredibly perfect! I feel like I got a really great value for the money spent. Having communicated mainly with email, I wasn't sure what to expect in person and she was a hoot! I loved her. Thank you Karen for the beautiful arrangements you provided!

It's always tough to know if a florist will see your vision and create the floral design you have in mind. My flowers were MORE BEAUTIFUL than I expected and I couldn't stop staring at them!! I received so many comments on how beautiful they were from all my guests. I even had a guest try to replicate my floral design for an event she had out of state because she loved them so much! I had to leave on my honeymoon the day after and I was sad that I couldn't enjoy the pretty center piece and bouquet that I took home from the wedding. (of course happy to be going on the honeymoon but you know what I mean, lol). Karen also has the most reasonable prices and will work above and beyond to ensure you get what you want and be 110% satisfied with your wedding flowers

I loved my flowers! The bouquets and centerpieces were beautiful and Karen really helped me come up with all of the ideas in a budget that worked. I was very very happy with the floral work itself. Karen is super nice and very responsive to emails and phone calls. I will say that we had a bit of a snafu with payment just due to lack of understanding or communication on both sides but that at the end of the day everything turned out. Also one other hiccup was that at one point after revising my order half way through I received multiple different contracts all with varying information on price and even the wrong wedding date. It was just a mix up. Overall I would recommend Karen for your wedding florals, the flowers are beautiful, and as any bride would do I just recommend you stay on top of all of your paperwork and communication with vendors.

Karen is super nice and planning was really great. She got my ideas and helped come up with new ones, and always got back to me quickly. Her prices were the best I found. The day of, our centerpieces were absolutely perfect, and our special escort card set up was amazing. However, our personal flowers weren’t quite what we had discussed. My bouquet came with those pearl floral pins in the center of the roses, which we definitely did not talk about, but my MOH quickly removed them for me without a problem. The BM bouquets were smaller than we had discussed, really more posies that bouquets, and they did not include the calla lilies we had planned on. Pretty, but small. The boutonnieres were also different than what we had discussed, so I don’t know if certain flowers weren’t available that week or what. They were still pretty though. Overall, I really didn’t care that much about flowers, just wanted them to be pretty and they were. I was only bothered by the smaller bouquets. Recommend, as long as you aren’t very particular and just want more of an overall look.

Did not get what I ordered but there were issues with the distributor. I understand Karen did her best in a bad situation and everyone else thought the flowers were lovely. The ceremony pedastal flowers were very beautiful.

    Petals by the Sea's reply:

In all fairness, It would have been nice for me to be able to explain what transpired thru my distributor in regards to what was sent to me to work with a day and a half prior to the wedding instead of Jenna smearing me and my work accross the Wedding sites and Internet. I did not in any way try to purposely ruin her or anyones wedding. The morning of her wedding I drove to Warwick, Rhode Island to purchase any and all available roses in hot pink to fulfill my my promise and obligation to my contract with her. My distributor out of the Boston market did not check the Hot Pink David Austin Roses that were Special ordered for me and sent them not realizing they were soaking wet with moisture and when they were un-wrapped totally fell apart and I had to scramble last minute to find "Hot Princess" (Hot Pink) large headed roses to use instead. There were no red roses bought. So with what I was forced to work with the arrangements were not going to be identical to the mound arrangements I had all intentions of designing. I also had to match the hanging pomodores to the table arrangements so they would match once they came into the room to be placed on vases. I was forced to make a professional designers decision under tremendous stress due to bad product that could not be replaced in a day notice. I am extremely sorry for the mistake that I had no control over. I will be presenting Jenna's email to my Boston distributor in reference to their total screwup and asking for a refund which will be sent to Jenna in regards to this situation.
I will also say that if the flowers were as awful as she states, The Beechmoore would have never asked me for my business cards and offer to send more work my way in the future. I also was there at the reception at 8:45 pm to pick up my glass work and I bought the large ceremony arrangements inside the reception, picked up my rented vases for the pomodores and the table arrangements most of the flowers still looked great. I did not see any of the bouquets. I am a sole proprietor with wedding help for design work only and being in the wedding season sometimes it can be difficult to get back to brides the same day.......I did call back leaving a message on her cell phone acknowedging her call. I will be working this week on getting some sort of refund on the flower order to send her and I would hope that Jenna will read this response and the personal email I will be sending her and please stop the slander as in all fairness I did everything within my grasp to rectify the situation. To say I ruined her wedding is so harsh as it is the union between two people and the words exchanged which means the absolute most.....not anything else. Flowers, food, cake.....dj. nothing matters. Just the two people getting married.

    100% would not recommend!!!

I cannot say enough how I would not recommend this vendor. We got married at the Lighthouse Inn in West Dennis, MA on September 4th, 2021. I was very specific on what we would like for our wedding. We were only doing 1 bridal bouquet, 1 boutonniere for the groom, and garland for the tables (10 in total). Some of the garland for the tables would be used for an arch that was rented from the vendor for the ceremony and then divided accordingly. I initially wanted the garland to be only baby's breath and hops but agreed when she said she wanted to add eucalyptus to the garland. For my bouquet, I wanted MOSTLY dahlias, hops, and accents of other colorful flowers. I got none of this. There was not a single hop to be seen anywhere and this was the main thing that we wanted for everything. This was included in the contract and all email contact. Not a single sprig. Same with the baby's breath. Maybe a fist full throughout each garland, that's being generous. With the conversations had via email, I was extremely specific about the dahlias (which shouldn't have been any issue as they were in season). I am not joking when I said that I had two dahlias in my bouquet. Both were white (not the colors I had specifically asked for) and both were extremely wilted. Not a single speckle of hops in the bouquet. My husband's bout was supposed to be a dahlia and hops. No dahlia, no hops. The amount of dying flowers and filler included in my bouquet was out of this world. My photographer is a professional florist and was absolutely appalled. The amount of dead/dying plants that we had to take out of the bouquet was insane to say the least. The bouquet was given to my photographer to give to me (don't even get me started on that), as soon as she walked thru the door with it, I had to ask her if it was for another wedding.... The arch that was rented was set up lopsided. Every single picture, it looks like it is falling over. Never once did she communicate that she would somehow be unable to fulfill the order or needed to change flowers and whatnot. Never once let me know that she could only get dying flowers and none of what I asked for, specifically the hops and dahlias. I see online that she does flowers at a Star Market, so I'm assuming my items came from the section of flowers discounted because they're about to die. Extremely low quality product and services. I would have had significantly better products if I bought fake dollar store flowers or ordered them from Costco. Never once before or after did she reach out to let me know why she couldn't do the job she was hired for. I will scream it from the hilltops that you will be extremely disappointed if you hire this vendor and ask for anything other than a generic rose bouquet that you could pick up at Star Market!!! I will be attaching pictures ASAP to show what you do not want.

    Petals by the Sea's reply:

Unfortunately, the Bride is exaggerating and not telling the total truth of what transpired with her contract. Her contract , I could post on here if anyone was interested ! Archway with floral piece was set on the beach front and a gust of wind twisted it and broke a birch pole in half prior to her using it and we had to fix the best we could . For that we are sorry but it is a very windy area that we have no control of. Her garland per contract was listed mixed greens add sprigs of hops and babies breath. I had reserved her some hops with my floral distributor in Chelsea at the flower market but was not able to meet my ordering deadline due to the bride getting back to me 3 days late for ordering so my floral distributor sold my hops that was ordered. Not my fault as the bride was told there were deadlines to follow per the contract. Her bouquet listed in the contract which I have photos of when it was completed, had every flower listed on contract in it! Her husbands boutonnière per the contract had a matching rannuculous not a dahlia! The dahlias that we’re in her bouquet were yellow with raspberry....not white! Unfortunately, this Bride voided her contract every step of the way....beginning with having to send me her deposit late, final table numbers, late, to sending her balance with the wrong written amount a week and a half late.......I document everything as I saved a picture of flowers, checks, dates and notes. I was 6 years ago Management with Star Market and was a District floral trainer. My flowers come from the Flower Exchange in Chelsea and my hardgoods come from Jacobson’s, Boston or Fall River florist supply. I do not or have ever designed a Wedding with flowers from the Super Market paying retail verses wholesale. I will not include comments that other vendors involved have made in response to working with this Bride but will say she was all over the place and difficult and since the Photographer did have her bouquet for photos first and I had to deal with an arch issue she offered to bring her the bouquet when she was done with the photos.

Caution When Doing Business with Karen at Petals By the Sea

CAUTION DOING BUSINESS with KAREN AT PETALS BY THE SEA! Very disappointed! We reserved Karen prior to the pandemic to do the flowers for our daughter’s wedding that was scheduled to happen on June 20, 2020 at the Lighthouse Inn. Karen was nice on the phone when we called to discuss hiring her and I gave Karen a deposit through Venmo. She told us she would need our final details by June 1st so that she could order the flowers. Unfortunately, the wedding got cancelled on June 1st due to Covid-19 & Massachusetts regulations that prohibited weddings. We notified Karen immediately of the mandated cancellation and she stated she would only refund half of our deposit. Karen’s response was rude stating “I don’t work for nothing” referring to phone calls, emails and putting together a proposal.
Unfortunately now it has been 22 days with no refund at all & Karen from Petals By The Sea continues to ignore calls, emails, & text messages regarding our refund. The Lighthouse Inn, the photographer, DJ “Cape Tunes”, the Airbnb we had reserved for the week before the wedding, hair salon, and every other vendor refunded our FULL deposit money. Each one of them spent their time assisting us with wedding plans. Those vendors chose to handle deposits professionally and with great understanding under these circumstances. Unfortunately Karen has chosen not to take that path. Beware of Karen and her unprofessionalism!

    Petals by the Sea's reply:

This comment was made as a threat from the Mother of the Bride saying she was going to smear my name unless she received a 100% refund. My contracts have dates listed for deposits, final counts and changes, final payment and then some. Of which nothing was done in the time listed. Deposit was for an amount that I received less, which I would have discussed at the 1-month mark before final payment. I had contacted the Wedding/ reception location on May 19th to see if Amy had consulted with the Inn and she had but from what I was told maybe might be some changes. So, I decided to wait to hear from the Bride. Finally , on May 26 @ 9:40 in the morning, I sent her an email regarding what are her plans as we were beyond the 1-month final with the wedding for June 20th. She sent me a return email same day and said there probably would be some changes but would get back to me. I explained she needed to let me know ASAP as flowers have to be ordered from Boston 2 weeks out. So, on June 1st at 11:51 she sent me a text and said she was cancelling totally on the Cape. I had already pre-ordered some of her flowers due to availability of product. There was also a text sent between the two of us with me talking about the deposit where she agreed we both lost out and she agreed to a 50% refund on the deposit amount that was sent. On June 20th I sent her back 2/3rds of her deposit not the 1/2 we agreed on. So, if you are reading this review, 95% of the Florist out there have a no refund policy for cancellation, we put in more prep time and changes for an event than a DJ, Photographer, Baker or even the Reception Hall does. The contract had been voided three times and I felt awful that her Clambake wedding was cancelled by the Bride and Groom as most of my Weddings for the summer are re-scheduled but, being compensated for some of my time the Bride agreed on in a text and her Mom harassed me in multiple calls, emails and texts while I explained to her my husbands sister was in the hospital with Covid which she did die from, and that I was not going to argue about her daughter and my decision.
I have been in the Wedding business for 40 years and strive to give my Brides beautiful arrangements at affordable pricing along with my undivided attention to detail as I only book one Wedding a weekend. Every stem purchased is used in either arrangements or brought to the Reception for embellishment. I love my Brides! I strive to give them what they are looking for working with their budget. I am very sorry this Mom was not happy and had to resort to this kind of hatred.
