Absolutely stunning and delicious cake

We cannot say enough good things about Pastries a-la-carte. They are definitely more pricey than other places we looked at, but they had the best tasting cake and fillings and their decorating is pure perfection. Our cake was even more beautiful than I envisioned and our guests loved the cookie trays we got. I would definitely reccomend them for your special day.

Amazing Cake

Our favorite bakery

My cake was included in my venue price so I actually never got to talk to the bakery about my ideas, etc. I only sent them one picture and the cake came out exactly how I envisioned! It was so beautiful and absolutely delicious (we got the red velvet). We got so many compliments and my husband and I ate the left over cake for weeks afterward! I frequent this bakery a lot for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, etc. and have never had a bad experience. They are wonderful!

Delicious, pretty

Our venue had this as one of two cake vendors - so we didn't deal directly with them. But the cake was exactly as we pictured it and it was delicious. Almond cake with raspberry filling! 3 tiered

PASTRIES ALA CARTE DID OUR THREE TIERED WEDDING CAKE AND 42 DOZEN COOKIE TABLE FOR OUR TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY VOW RENEWAL. AMAZING IS ALL THAT I CAN SAY. 100 PEOPLE ATE 42 DOZEN COOKIES IN 4 HOURS. THERE WAS NOT ONE LEFT. OUR CAKE WAS ALMOND WITH RASPBERRY FILLING AND PEOPLE COULD NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. FROM THE FIRST SKETCH TO THE LAST PLATE, EVERYTHING WAS JUST PERFECT. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!!

We worked with the manager, Tamala, for our wedding cake and cookies. She sat down with us and really took her time to listen to what we wanted and showed us pictures and options that would work within our budget. She was so helpful and informative and just a pleasure to work with. It shows that she cares about her customers and what she does. The cake was SO delicious and beautiful! The cookies, oh my goodness, I've never had cookies that still tasted so fresh over a week later! Wow. I'll be referring everyone to them and will be ordering more myself!

I actually traveled with cookies to another state. They were helpful in explaining what I needed to do keep them fresh and packaged them accordingly for us! They were delicious!! Had to show how brides in Pittsburgh take cookies serious!!!

Pricing and management of cake was excellent. Variety of options and management skill sets for those with time management problems and good flexibility while remaining a fun and professional appearance with a great sense of value on your big day.
Cake design was breathtaking and provided a well balanced dessert staying within budget and with even the most pickiest of sweet tooth greatly satisfied.

We used them for our "bride and groom" cake as well as ordered many cupcakes for our wedding guests. Couldn't have asked for a better bakery to work with. They were so personal and helped us so much! They brought our vision to life with our cupcake display and our "bride and groom" cake. Thank you Kathy for making our wedding day so memorable and perfect. Our guests couldn't get enough of the cupcakes!

We ordered our wedding cake from Pastries a-la-Carte recently. It was very beautiful and delicious, exactly what we wanted. They were very professional when we met with them for our tasting. This was the only bakery that gave us our own whole cake to taste and take home with us. A lot of bakeries just gave us dried, small pieces of cake for a tasting. They were comparable in overall price to the other bakeries I received quotes from. However, they were also the only bakery that was able to include all of our servings in one large three-tier cake, rather than back up sheet cakes. To purchase the same size of three-tier cake from many other bakeries in the area, we would\'ve had to pay almost twice the price or choose a very small three-tier cake for the same price of the large, beautiful one we bought from Pastries a-la-Carte. The cake was also delicious and very well balanced. If you don\'t want something made from a mix or overly sweet icing, this is the bakery for you.

Pastries a la Carte was the first bakery that we visited in our wedding search—it was so early at that point that I wanted to wait and shop around—but after 3 months of scattered interviewings and tastings, I had to admit that nothing, and I mean nothing, could top them.

Due to the pretty hefty cake cutting fee at our venue, we decided to go with gourmet cupcakes, and Pastries a la Carte's cupcakes most definitely did not disappoint. They were enormous and incredibly delicious, and they came in flavors that suited everyone at the wedding! We went with their coconut/pineapple, optical illusion, red velvet, and s'mores flavors (and let me tell you I ate at least one of each the morning after the wedding:) ). They also baked our beautiful wedding cake, which was a 2 tiered round. We'd asked them to write one of our favorite book quotes around it--the cake looked and tasted delicious, and went perfectly with our theme!

Kathy was also incredibly accommodating--even though she had limited experience baking vegan, she made 2 dozen vegan salted caramel cupcakes for our vegan guests that tasted just as good as the non-vegan cupcakes! Plus her team wrapped each individual cupcake in special book page cupcake wraps that we'd prepared--the finished product looked like a Pinterest photo!!

We rented and returned their stands for the cupcakes without a problem, and the way they set everything up for the big day was flawless. Not to mention their prices are unbeatable!

I 100% recommend them--definitely the tastiest part of our big day :)

Thank you for everything you did to make our daughters' wedding special.... Everything was perfect. The cake was wonderful. All of our guests raved about the taste. There was plenty for the wedding, as well as enough to take home a bit for later. The extra cookies were the talk of the evening, and for days after.... Your Service, and set-up, perfect. My wedding cake was fantastic. The cake was exactly the way I wanted it to be. I so many complaints. Every loved the the taste and look. They were so easy to work with.

What to do when you realize 1 MONTH before your wedding that there's a problem with the people that were supposed to do your wedding cake? Contact THIS AMAZING PLACE!! Pastries A La Carte has ALWAYS been my favorite bakery, and once again... They proved themselves. The cake was beautiful, was absolutely delicious, and was even better than I imagined. The cookies we bought were delicious (as always) and were loved by everyone.

Delicious wedding cake! It was fresh and moist, and it tasted just as good when we unfroze it after our honeymoon. Everything was delivered and decorated as promised. The consultation was very personal. We met with someone who was able to expand our ideas into a great cake, and it took very little effort on our part.

I had a fall themed wedding. The owner of this business is extremely professional and a friendly fun person to deal with. She did a private cake tasting for us and showed us her past work for weddings. The different things she has done in the past were endless. We ended up doing a 3 tier beautiful gold cake with flowers cascading down one side. We also had cupcakes all different fall flavors and they each had a beautiful flower on them. I would highly recommend this establishment. They also delivered much ahead of schedule, they never caused me any worries. Also the staff know their stuff too! Everyone was very helpful.

Pastries a la carte made cupcakes and groom's cake for our wedding reception of 210 people at Pittsburgh's Grand Hall at the Priory.

I have not stopped receiving compliments on the cupcakes, everything from how beautiful and unique they looked to how amazing they tasted. They even made appearances on several guest's Instagram and Facebook pages accompanied by many 'likes'! We had red velvet with cream cheese filling, almond batter with raspberry filling and chocolate chocolate. All with buttercream icing. We also purchased special cupcake covers that set a standard look to all of the cupcakes despite the various flavors and really made the tower look classy and consistent. The groom's cake was carrot cake and I don't think it lasted 5 minutes after we opened up the table for consumption. The groom never even got to taste it as it was devoured so quickly.

I met with a few other bakeries and none were able to take my vision and colors and make it real while adding their own suggestions and creativity. I clicked with them immediately and they remained responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. They have a passion for what they do and were friendly from the first phone call, which some other bakeries lack. I never felt like they were just trying to make a sale but they seemed genuinely interested in adding something special to our wedding and were full of ideas on how to take it to the next level. Pricing was reasonable and competitive with other bakeries that I visited, but I felt it was a better experience for the money.

Absolutely recommended for your Pittsburgh wedding needs! I also got to see some wedding cakes while visiting and all were gorgeously done. If you are considering a cupcake tower, I can tell you they will provide one that your guests will not soon forget and will look incredible in your photographs!

We ordered the burnt almond raspberry torte for our wedding cake and it was a huge hit! We cut a small round cake for the photo and to keep for after the honeymoon, and then had sheet cakes cut for the guests. Everyone loved it. Also, my mother said the staff there were some of the nicest people she's ever worked with and were very accommodating. I would recommend them without hesitation.

After using this vendor in the past for other special occasions, there was no question we would use them for a wedding cake. We had a picture of the cake we wanted and it was perfect. The vanilla cake with raspberry filling was the most delicious cake and the presentation was also beautiful.

Our cake tasted amazing, it looked amazing! The guests at our wedding said "it was the best wedding cake they had ever had in their life!" We were so happy with the quality and service at Pastrie A La Carte. And we even made sure WE had the cake - and we loved it!!

The staff did an amazing job bringing all of my ideas to life. The cake was perfect and the sheen of my dress and the icing on the cake matched to a "T." Let alone the design, the taste was out of this world. Everyone loved it. I am so upset that I didn't get a piece of the cake, but hopefully we make it out to their location and order some just for ourselves in the near future!

Pastries Ala Carte made the wedding cake for my daughter's wedding on July 3rd, 2010. It looked beautiful and tasted just as good. I was very pleased with the fact that I got to take home the left over tortes we tried so my daughter could try them, too, since she could not be at the original meeting. The cake was delivered on time and set up wonderfully.

The people at pastries ala cart were so easy to work with. I gave them a drawing of what I wanted my cake to look like and that is what I got. I dont know about other areas of the country but in western Pennsylvania its a tradition to have massive amounts of cookies at your reception and we ordered a lot of the cookies from pastries. The guests could not stop raving about them.

Our cake was from Pastries Ala Carte. I choose the cake from a picture. When we arrived at the banquet facility I was stunned to see how beautiful it was in person. It looked exactly like the photo. I was alittle worried because we choose carrot cake and I was not sure how it would decorate (i.e. if icing would be smooth) It was perfect. Everyone was surprised when we cut the cake to find out that it was carrot. It was a big hit with our guests. It was not only beautiful but delicious. It was extremely fresh and moist. We had a luncheon the next day so I cut the top of the cake for dessert for everyone. The cake was still very fresh and moist. We have decided to have pastries ala carte bake us a new one next year for our anniversary.

SO PERFECT! The cake was beautiful and they were so incredibly easy to work with. I showed a picture of what I liked, and they made it even better. Cake arrived on time and was set up- one less thing to worry about on the wedding day. Plus they didnt try to up sell me or do something I didn't want. I would definitely recommend them to anyone!

Pastries ala Carte came highly recommended, and we were very pleased with our experience. Our tasting was free and 4 of us got to sample a very nice variety of cakes. They had tons of pictures to show and came up with drawings right there, based on what we described that we wanted. Their cake tasted incredible. We got buttercream icing, the cake itself was moist and we had a layer of raspberry - to die for. On our wedding day, the cake looked exactly how I wanted it to, and it tasted amazing -- plus the price was more than reasonable.
I also ordered our groom's cake, which was very good but they didn't follow my instruction entirely, so I had to unfortunately sacrifice some of the design that was initially agreed upon. It still looked nice, but wasn't what we discussed and therefore wasn't as customized as I hoped. However, despite that I would highly recommend Pastries ala Carte; their value, quality and taste was everything we were looking for - and it photographed great! Plus, the owners, The Battis', are very easy to work with!

We ordered our wedding cake and all our desserts from Pastries-A-La-Carte and it was hands down one of the best decisions we made for our wedding.
Kathy was so helpful and accommodating. For our tasting she baked us three pretty sizable cakes in the most popular flavours (and gave us the extra to keep). We liked all so much that we chose one for the wedding cake and then ordered an assortment of all three for the dessert table.
Kathy also showed us dozens of photos of other cakes they had made to help us get ideas. However, none were what I had really envisioned so she sat with me and sketched out a design that captured what I wanted. On the day, the cake came out exactly as I had pictured it. It was perfect.
We also chose and assortment of desserts from our favourites sold by the bakery and our guests couldn’t stop raving about them. I’m sure a bunch of guests went to the shop later in the week to buy desserts for themselves.
I would definitely recommend Patries-A-La-Carte for any event.

Our wedding cake turned out tasty and beautiful from Pastries A-La-Carte. Their icing is the best in the city in my opinion. When we couldn't decide on the almond or the heavenly chocolate, they suggested a layer of each with raspberry filling in between. It was delicious. I had a beautiful white cascading flower down the front of the 3 tiered cake. It was exactly what I wanted. Hands down, for the quality and the price, I wouldn't go anywhere else. The personalized service with this bakery was evident after going to places like Bethel Bakery where you are just another number to them that weekend. And the cake tastes 1000 times better at Pastries A-La-Carte.

My only slight issue was that the cake did not arrive until 5 and my wedding was taking place at the same place as the reception at The Grand Concourse. Apparently they usually do not let them set up at that venue until after 5 so double check with your venue and communicate the timing to the bakery. However, this was a communication that I should have double checked.

The cakes were delicious and looked amazing! My only complaint was, they did not put my cake topper in my cake? I dropped it off weeks in advance and it was displayed on the table beside my cake? not sure what happened, but a little disappointed.

Our cakes were fantastic!! Kathy from Pastries a la Carte was so helpful during our tasting and the planning of what our cakes (wedding & groom's) looked like.

We received so many compliments on how different our cake was and how good it tasted. I can't wait to have more from our top tier on our anniversary!

The only thing I would say against this bakery is that our venue had originally set up the cake table on the dance floor. It ended up being a little wobbly for the cake. So the table was moved to a different part of the room. The person who delivered our cake left it in pieces (top two tiers were not set up on the bottom two) because he claimed "the table just wasn't strong enough". Turns out, he just wanted to get back to the bakery.

Thankfully, my mom used to make wedding cakes as a hobby and went into the reception hall prior to everyone being seated and fixed the cake and put it together how it should be. It looked great and I didn't even know anything was wrong until I heard about it after my honeymoon.

Pastries A-La-Carte was a great choice for our wedding. We went with a dummy cake and individual desserts for our guests. Pastries A-La-Carte provided delicious tasting treats that everyone loved. We had a little bit of trouble communicating our overall design due to miscommunication, but the cake turned out beautifully. What a wonderful service they provided!

I use pastries ala carte for all of my cakes, including the most important cake of my life.....my wedding cake. I had a very different cake; it was styrofoam. Yes, I said styrofoam. NONE of my guests at my wedding even realized that this was a fake cake until they started eating their cake, when it was still on the table. They made this cake exactly as I pictured and helped them design it. The only issue I had was when looking at the cake a ribbon or two had actually fallen off the cake ( because the icing was completely real with real flowers), but I think it was due to the heat of the facility. None the less, the cake was absolutely amazing tasting and I will continue to get my cakes from them! Thanks again!

The cake was excellent. I can not answer on value because the cake was part of the Youghiogheny Country Club's Gold Package. I'm guessing this bakery, on it's own, would have a good value.

Cake tasted GREAT! It looked how I wanted to, however I never actually got to speak to the baker like I requested. She avoided me and my phone calls.

I liked the cake decorator that i worked with. She was very nice and the cake tasted really good, but it wasn't at all what i had ordered, or what we talked about at all, it was like she didn't even look at the notes she wrote down, and did what she wanted to! Cakes are alot of money, and they should be just what the bride and groom want! She did give me back half the price of my cake, and was very sorry for the mix up.

I was very excited about my wedding cake from this bakery. The cake was very important to us. Ufortunatley, the sheet cake we got on our wedding day was wrong. The 4 tier cake was right- but the sheet cake that was served to the majority of our guests ( as well as the bridal party) contained the wrong filling and icing. We only received a very small refund. I would not recomend this bakery to anyone. We were very upset about the cake... it was really importamt to us.

I was very displeased with the bakery. I was charged additional for flowers that I did not get on my cake. My initals were not written in the cake like asked. I tried to call the bakery and they avoided my phone calls. I finally got hold of the owner, and she told me she would have to call me back the next day because my file was not there. It has been about 6 weeks and still no phone call. My sister in law also used the bakery for her wedding and they put plastic pearls on her cake instead of edible pearls. My mother in law also called and she received no response back. I understand mistakes happen, but sometimes people just need to confront them to make a better business.
