Oak Island Mansion Reviews

This is the PERFECT venue for a wedding! Driving up to the mansion is just breathtaking. My daughter and her now husband fish on Lay Lake and have looked at this house for years. The island itself is 6 acres, with a charming boat house with dock on one side. There is an additional dock on the other side of the island. The mansion itself has a beautiful wrap around porch on the second level. It has a salt water pool (that you can use!) and a wonderful pool deck big enough for tables and a dance floor!
(The working horse stables you drive past are not part of the venue)

The inside of the mansion is just incredible! They have recently replaced all the flooring with beautiful hardwood flooring with decorative inlays. The main room is large enough to put 6 round tables and 8 chairs each comfortably. At the opposite end of the room are these beautiful double winding stair cases. Immediately, you begin to think of decorations, photos, etc using these stairs with the beautiful bannisters.

There are 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. 2 of the upstairs bedrooms have 2 twin beds in them. 2 of the bedrooms on the upper floor (right side) share a huge bathroom, with a large garden tub, separate shower. The downstairs bedroom shares a huge bathroom with what we called the library, again with a large garden tub and a shower . The ONLY downside to the bathrooms is there are NO outlets in them. Bring extension cords if you want to do your hair in there.
Every bedroom has at least 4 doors that open up to the outside. Upstairs, they open up to the wrap around porch. You are surrounded by water. Sunrise and sunset is SPECTACULAR there. There is a beautiful fountain on what I call the side of the house, but it is the side you see as you enter the property. Many weddings are held here, but my daughter opted to get married down by the lake in front of the arbor, which was STUNNING!

My daughter got married here October 30th, 2021. We rented the place for Friday and Saturday night. It's not much more, and that way, you are guaranteed to be able to use the facility for rehearsal and dinner. We turned the rehearsal into a costume party.

There is an onsite event manager there, Elizabeth, when you have your event, but she is out of sight. There is an apartment (under the pool) that she stays in, but is there is you need anything. She had 2 young men working with her and they set up all our chairs, set up the tables prior to the wedding. After the wedding, when we were cleaning up, they broke down the tables and chairs and moved them out for us. So nice and polite! And hard workers!

The selling point for me when we toured the place, was dealing with the property manager, Cody Webb. He is so easy to work with, so helpful, very patient with all the questions. Even answers questions that you don't know to ask. If I had gotten a bad vibe from him, or any type of attitude, I wouldn't have even considered using this venue. He was my selling point, along with the beauty of the place.

You will not be disappointed if you use this venue.

Mere words scarcely describe the beauty of getting married at Oak Island Mansion. Without doubt, choosing the perfect venue is the starting point for any bride and groom. My husband and I ran across Oak Island by happenstance, but I am so happy we did. The drive down the road and across the bridge quite literally takes your breath away for its sheer beauty. It definitely doesn’t stop there… multiple spots to choose for the ceremony and reception, a pool, a Roman pavilion, spot for a bonfire, boathouse, dock, and lest one forgets … the mansion which is amazing. We were set on having a barn wedding and were dismayed at all the restrictions and the price at each one we visited. When we got to Oak Island and took a tour, we were amazed at the elongated hours we were able to rent the venue and the ability to make most of our own arrangements instead of being so tied down and limited with our options as well as extremely competitive pricing at the island. We were able to save thousands of dollars by simply having the ability to hire our own bartender and caterer and not be limited to pre-set lists from another venue and that is just a couple of the ways we were able to cut costs. Those savings allowed us to spend money other ways and we truly had the fairy tale wedding that all little girls only dream of. The staff at Oak Island was amazing, helpful, and surpassed all expectations. The only cloud on our wedding day was filled with rain and the staff at Oak Island were all over everything when plans had to be changed last minute due to the weather. We had to bring everything inside the mansion due to rain and the staff onsite quite literally flipped the ballroom from ceremony to reception (tables, centerpieces, and place settings) in under five minutes. I cannot speak volumes enough on what an amazingly beautiful wedding day we experienced and the service with which Oak Island provided.

My husband and I had our wedding at Oak Island on 5/22/21 and it was absolutely perfect. The owners and staff were wonderful and so helpful and Cody was the best during the whole process!! Everything about our experience was amazing. We had our wedding here on April 10th and it was everything I ever wanted. Cody, Elizabeth, and the whole Oak Island Team were amazing! It is a great venue for anyone looking to get married on the lake. It is truly a venue only so you're able to choose all your own vendors rather than having to use the provided vendors as it is with some venues. We had our rehearsal dinner at the mansion Friday night and the entire wedding party was able to stay both Friday and Saturday which made thing so easy! I would absolutely, 100% recommend this venue for any wedding or event!

Ah where to start with the Oak Island experience? Just book them already! We just had our wedding last Sunday and wish we could go back! Yolanda is the most gracious of hosts and Candace is a heck of a wedding planner. My husband and I live in San Diego (I'm from the Birmingham area) and we initially thought we would have a wedding in San Diego. However, for the same price and a lot less coordination and stress on my part, Oak Island offered a package deal including bartender, DJ, flowers, catering, cakes, security etc.! We also considered the Sterling Castle nearby (also offers package deals) but I knew after talking to Yolanda and seeing Oak Island that we had to have it on their beautiful lake property.

We chose the fountain as our ceremony location and the patio out by the pool as our reception location (complete with cafe lights!). Terri, the day-of coordinator was so patient and fun to work with. She wrangled our easily distracted wedding party like a pro and got us through the rehearsal with no problem. As the bride, one of the things I'm most grateful for was that on the wedding day, I never had to stress about a single thing, never had to check the time and wonder if everything was going ok, AND I got to eat all the delicious food and cake!! If anything went wrong, I definitely didn't know about it.

As for the reception, it could not have been more perfect. Most of our guests were from out of town and the majority of them had never stepped foot below the Mason-Dixon line. They were BLOWN AWAY by the beauty of Oak Island complete with a gorgeous multi-colored sunset over the lake during the reception. Also, DJ Ray Ray Tennyson knows how to put on a dance party and we had several guests tell us that it was the most fun wedding they had ever been to. Thanks Yolanda, Candace, Ray, and the many behind the scenes staff that helped make our wedding day perfect and unforgettable. Thank you for the surprise at the end of the reception. We're so grateful!

My Husband and I got married at this place just two days ago but I feel like I’m already late to tell everyone about our wonderful experience. This place is sublime and absolutely gorgeous. I’m from New York and I truly found the southern hospitality here. Yolanda is the most wonderful person. She is not just a venue director. She takes it personally to make sure you have all the details to perfection. She will work with you as long as needed until you have all the specifics planned to excellence. She is extremely kind and welcoming and we soon realized she was as concerned about the perfection of our big day as ourselves. The venue is flawless. Perhaps it is fair to say that the pictures can’t describe all the beauty that is entailed in this place and you have to experience it by yourself. We had a great deal of details based on our culture that were not part of her routine but she absolutely and comprehensively took care of all of them. Most of our guests were from out state and the amazing venue, professional and polite staff and level of meticulousness overwhelmed them all. On our big day Terri was an absolute caretaker. She had a thorough game plan and played it to perfection. She amazed me by her kindness and calm even in the face of unexpected events. I can’t tell you enough how amazing everything about this place is and as a bride to be, you can have peace of mind that all your dreams will be coming true at this astonishing place. I absolutely, firmly, highly and unequivocally recommend this place to any couple who want to make a memory that even their grand-children will be amazed by. Lots of heart felt love to Yolanda, Terri, the florist (Demaris), our officiant (Jeremy), Candace (wedding planner), our chef (Chef Troy), DJ (Russ), (indulge sweet shop who made our cake) for their kindness, professionalism, detail-orientation, fantastic performance and also want to thank them all for creating the most wonderful experience of our lives.

If you’re looking for a place to make all your dreams come true, LOOK NO MORE. You have found the most magical place and I promise you its going to be a decision you will never regret. All the major and minor details of your big day are going to turn out absolutely perfect in this place. To give you a perspective
1. The venue is breath taking. Take a look for yourself. All our guests were astonished by the beauty and splendid view.
2. Yolanda is the angel sent on this earth to make your day the most amazing experience you can dream of. She will work with you in a comprehensive manner to make sure all the details are suited to perfection and your style. She is the true meaning of southern hospitality!
3. Terri is the most wonderful wedding planner you can ask for. She had thought of everything and made sure every aspect of the day was carefully tailored and taken care of.
4. Staff are extremely professional and courteous.

We also had several unexpected incidents but the meticulous handling of Yolanda and Terri ensured our event was not interrupted by any means. Again, I can’t emphasize enough how happy we were with everything and how happy my wife and I are to have chosen this place for our magical day. I highly encourage you to consider Antebellum!!!!

LOVED this venue! It was stunningly beautiful and had great staff! Yolanda and Candace were great to work with. They made the planning process a breeze! Basically one meeting and the wedding was all planned out. Terri, our wedding director, was great! She made the wedding day so peaceful and stress-free. The only stress I had was my own fault and that was the weather. Everyone at the wedding was complimenting me and my family on finding such a BEAUTIFUL venue.

I LOVE Oak Island! The people and the venue are beyond you best expectations. Yolanda and Candace are the best and the made my wedding planning run as smoothly as possible and never caused me any stress. The day of our wedding there was no detail left unturned and there was never an issue unresolved. I was able to enjoy my day without worrying where and what was next for me to do, it was ALL handled by the excellent people at Oak Island. I was in love with the venue and the people who take care of your day and work to make it magical!

Oak Island was perfect for our wedding. They have so many different options for you to choose where to have your ceremony. Our ceremony was held outside by the lake and our reception was held in the barn. The property is so beautiful and made excellent pictures as well. The people are so helpful and great to work with. Oak Island is definitely worth visiting if you are trying to find the perfect wedding venue!

When looking for a venue in a town we were unfamiliar with, finding Yolanda and her staff was a god-send. We wanted to avoid the "wedding nightmares" you hear about with vendors falling through or ripping you off or all of the above and we chose wisely. We visited the venue and after meeting Yolanda, we immediately said “this is the one”. We looked no further and this is the only venue we visited. It is as beautiful in person as you see in the many photos on their website and in other bride's pictures. It is a family owned business and quite reasonable in the grand scheme of average wedding costs. We had unlimited contact and visits with all staff. We moved to the south a year before getting engaged and decided to have everyone come down to us for a good ol’ southern wedding. The logistics were overwhelming and Yolanda, Candace and Terri were wonderful in making sure everyone was picked up, transported and generally accommodated. They take care of all the major details so it was great because I had time to craft my own little personal touches. We rented out the mansion for the immediate families and wedding party to spend the night with their guests and when we pulled up, we got nothing less than Ooos and Ahhs about how beautiful and serene it all is. Every vendor Yolanda has in her arsenal is remarkable and a joy to work with - she wouldn't have it any other way and that is how you know you're looking at the right venue/planner. The day-of coordinator (Terri) is a MUST-DO for Brides. We actually ate at our wedding! You will not find a more flexible venue/planner anywhere. Nothing was out of the realm of possibilities or "against the rules" and that is how your wedding day should be - exactly as you want.
If you are looking for a one of a kind wedding experience with seasoned professionals, listen to their advice (they've done way more weddings than you!) and go with Oak Island Weddings. We could not have been happier with our choice!!

I cannot tell you enough how wonderful the staff at Oak Island is. They are quick to respond to any request, they truly ENJOY what they are doing and it makes the entire experience that much better. They went above and beyond to make everything on our wedding day absolutely perfect. The staff and owners of Oak Island gave us the wedding of our dreams. My wife and I honestly was overwhelmed how everything from the decorations, food, planning and hospitality far exceeded our expectations. We rented the mansion for two days as well, the day prior to the wedding and the day of, which gave our two families a chance to come together and experience everything Oak Island has to offer. I am confident in saying that anyone considering a wedding here will be pleased at the professionalism, creativity and stress free environment that Yolanda and her staff create.

From the catering to the photographer, DJ to the flowers and decorations created by Helen, Oak Island takes care of all planning from A-Z. All that is left for the bride and groom is to just show up and enjoy your special day. As with all weddings there is last minute or forgotten plans that arise but the staff was at our side the whole way making those two days the most special and joyous of our lives. My wife and I feel guilty sometimes describing our wedding to others because we didn’t have to experience any of the common stresses that a typical bride and groom have to go through.

We are honored to call Yolanda and the staff of Oak Island our friends now. We are actually planning on utilizing the home in the future for special events. Anyone who is thinking of having their wedding here should feel confident that you will find no better place to create such lasting memories or better people to guide you through this special day.

Oak Island is the absolute most beautiful setting for a wedding. When I found Oak Island on the internet I fell in love, and the first time I saw it in person I fell in love all over. I knew there was no where else I wanted to have my wedding. The first time I met Yolanda I could not get over her friendliness and sweet smile! She is an amazing lady and loves her job and it shows. She was a God send to me and my family and she and the entire Oak Island staff made my dream come true. If you are looking for a wedding venue who literally takes care of everything, then Oak Island is the place! My wedding day was the most peaceful and stress free day! The staff at Oak Island were so good to me and my wedding party and I could not be more thankful for an amazing experience. If I could do it all over again I would not change one thing!! The property of Oak Island is breathtaking and truly a sight you must see to believe. The staff is completely amazing! Our every request was met with a smile and enthusiastic "yes, we can do that!". Yolanda and her staff have a true gift and made our wedding day everything we dreamed it would be and much more. If we had our wedding to do over, we would choose Oak Island every time.

I had my wedding at Antebellum Weddings at Oak Island, The ceremony took place by the lake and my reception was in the barn. It had been raining all morning that day and everyone at this venue knew i wanted the ceremony to take place outside, at the last minute it stoped raining and they went above and beyond to make everything possible for my ceremony to be outside. And it was! I love this venue because there is so many different spots for you to have your ceremony and reception. Your not stuck to having it in one certain place. Also it is so nice to be able to have your ceremony and reception on the same grounds so your guest are not having to get in their cars and drive somewhere else! The staff here is very friendly and willing to do anything for you! I would definitley recommend this venue for anyone out there looking!

It's hard to find the right words to be able to thank Yolanda Tolbert and her entire staff at Oak Island. We had the most beautiful wedding we could have ever hoped for at the most breathtaking venue I've ever seen. You can literally walk down the aisle and say "I Do" without a single flower or decoration and it would still be the most stunning venue available. From the very first moment we met Yolanda, we knew we wanted to work with her. We still have a relationship with her even now after the wedding, and she will be a dear friend for many years to come. Words cannot even begin to describe my experience with Yolanda and the Oak Island staff... I will try because this is THE PLACE to get married :) I am 40 with 3 kids and when my fiancee and I decided to get married, we had 3 months to do it in. I wanted a place that was beautiful and peaceful... something different and Oak Island is all of those things. I will tell you now, the pictures you see online do not do it justice... it is a must see in person! Normally, I am hands on and like to do things myself, but with 3 kids varying in age, it just wasn't possible, so I let Oak Island take over. I told Yolanda exactly what I wanted and on October 20th it was all there... down to the smallest of details. It was simply PERFECTION! Not only is Yolanda a joy to work with, but so is everyone that works with her. From the DJ, the video guys, the caterers... everyone was amazing. I can honestly say that I truly enjoyed our day and all the aspects of it because I knew everything was handled and in control... I was wired because I was deliriously happy, but I was most importantly calm and at peace. The hospitality felt by not only us but all my family and guests, was what true "Southern Hospitality" is all about. Everyone has been raving about their experience at our wedding and I have Oak Island to thank for all of it... Thank you so much!

Oak Island is the absolute most gorgeous wedding venue that I have EVER seen! As soon as I pulled up to Oak Island's beautiful mansion for the first time, I knew that Oak Island was the ONLY place that I wanted to get married. The entire venue looks like its out of a fairy tale - I couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to have my wedding. Words truly can't describe the breathtaking beauty - you definitely have to see it to believe it!

Furthermore, Ms. Yolanda is WONDERFUL!! She is so incredibly nice and absolutely dedicated to making your big day perfect. She sat down with me multiple times to go over details of what I wanted, and was completely open to anything that I wanted or suggested. I loved that I didn't have to worry about a single thing on my wedding day -- Ms. Yolanda and her staff took care of absolutely everything. I've been in multiple weddings as a bridesmaid and MOH, and things have always gone wrong. My wedding at Oak Island, on the other hand, went absolutely perfectly. NOTHING went wrong the day of my wedding. Everything was done exactly as I'd asked, and they even took care of the little details that I hadn't even thought of. I've seen many brides stressing out on their wedding day, but I had such a wonderful day and didn't have to worry about anything! I can't imagine having a more perfect wedding day. Oak Island, Ms. Yolanda, and the wonderful staff made my wedding everything that I had ever dreamed of. Go visit Oak Island and meet the wonderful people there -- you will fall in love with it just like I did!
