Mere words scarcely describe the beauty of getting married at Oak Island Mansion. Without doubt, choosing the perfect venue is the starting point for any bride and groom. My husband and I ran across Oak Island by happenstance, but I am so happy we did. The drive down the road and across the bridge quite literally takes your breath away for its sheer beauty. It definitely doesn’t stop there… multiple spots to choose for the ceremony and reception, a pool, a Roman pavilion, spot for a bonfire, boathouse, dock, and lest one forgets … the mansion which is amazing. We were set on having a barn wedding and were dismayed at all the restrictions and the price at each one we visited. When we got to Oak Island and took a tour, we were amazed at the elongated hours we were able to rent the venue and the ability to make most of our own arrangements instead of being so tied down and limited with our options as well as extremely competitive pricing at the island. We were able to save thousands of dollars by simply having the ability to hire our own bartender and caterer and not be limited to pre-set lists from another venue and that is just a couple of the ways we were able to cut costs. Those savings allowed us to spend money other ways and we truly had the fairy tale wedding that all little girls only dream of. The staff at Oak Island was amazing, helpful, and surpassed all expectations. The only cloud on our wedding day was filled with rain and the staff at Oak Island were all over everything when plans had to be changed last minute due to the weather. We had to bring everything inside the mansion due to rain and the staff onsite quite literally flipped the ballroom from ceremony to reception (tables, centerpieces, and place settings) in under five minutes. I cannot speak volumes enough on what an amazingly beautiful wedding day we experienced and the service with which Oak Island provided. -

My husband and I had our wedding at Oak Island on 5/22/21 and it was absolutely perfect. The owners and staff were wonderful and so helpful and Cody was the best during the whole process!! We had the mansion for the whole weekend with our wedding party and it was absolutely stunning!!!! Michael and Renee Parrish -

Everything about our experience was amazing. We had our wedding here on April 10th and it was everything I ever wanted. Cody, Elizabeth, and the whole Oak Island Team were amazing! It is a great venue for anyone looking to get married on the lake. It is truly a venue only so you're able to choose all your own vendors rather than having to use the provided vendors as it is with some venues. We had our rehearsal dinner at the mansion Friday night and the entire wedding party was able to stay both Friday and Saturday which made thing so easy! I would absolutely, 100% recommend this venue for any wedding or event! -

Heather Sent on 04/20/2013It's hard to find the right words to be able to thank Yolanda Tolbert and her entire staff at Oak Island. We had the most beautiful wedding we could have ever hoped for at the most breathtaking venue I've ever seen. You can literally walk down the aisle and say "I Do" without a single flower or decoration and it would still be the most stunning venue available. From the very first moment we met Yolanda, we knew we wanted to work with her. We still have a relationship with her even now after the wedding, and she will be a dear friend for many years to come. Thank you so much, Yolanda and staff, for helping to create the best day of our lives. :) -

Rebekah Sent on 04/06/2016My husband & I made a decision to get married in Alabama, as that's where I am from. We live out of state, which adds far more difficulty to wedding planning. I am so thankful that I discovered Oak Island. Their wedding package is inclusive of nearly everything you need, which eliminated so much stress/coordination on my part! Yolanda & her staff did a fantastic job! I worked mostly with Yolanda throughout my planning phase. From the start she was easy to work with & helped to design my wedding around my budget. I called her several times in the months leading up to my wedding and she was always very kind and understanding of my concerns. The venue itself is breathtaking! The mansion, the barn, the lake... I couldn't think of a better venue if I tried! Rain & thunderstorms were forecasted throughout my wedding weekend. Yolanda knew how much I wanted to have my ceremony by the lake, so she allowed me to wait until the last moment possible to make a decision on moving it inside. When we saw that it would stop raining in time, she had her staff set up at the last minute. She will do anything in her power to ensure her brides have the wedding of their dreams. OI's wedding director, Terri, did a phenomenal job. I met her at my rehearsal and we went through what to expect. Although OI does all your decorating, I brought a few things to add a personal touch. Terri gathered everything I had & ensured they were used. She kept me on track & kept me fed & hydrated. I can't imagine either of these ladies have an easy job. The only thing I would have done differently, is I would have all family photos taken before moving to the reception location. Everything else was wonderful. The catering staff were very nice & the food was delicious! The DJ kept the party going so much so that no one wanted to leave! I had such a wonderful time! I could go on & on raving about how much I loved my wedding, but I'll end with book this venue!!! -
User1452902 Sent on 11/25/2013Everything at our wedding went so smoothly! We literally showed up and did not have to worry about a thing which was wonderful as I am not a detail-oriented person. It was as stress-free as a wedding can be! All our decorations, flowers, and wedding cakes were so beautiful and we got so many compliments on how elegant everything looked. Of course we knew how beautiful the venue would be the first time we visited! Yolanda, Candace, and Terry were so great to work with and are truly loving people who just want the bride and groom to be happy! Yolanda worked with our budget and was up-front about options we could and could not afford. I will always remember our special day at Oak Island. Thank you!! -

The price for this venue in comparison to what is in the area is wonderful. The venue is gorgeous and allows enough space and accommodations for up to 150 people. There are multiple areas on the property for the ceremony and/or reception.
However, communication and professionalism was severely lacking. It would take reaching out to Elizabeth, one of the owners, multiple times to hear anything back. One time after attempting to call her four times and texting her twice, I heard back about ten days after the initial contact. When I tried to politely mention how difficult it was to contact her, she went on about everything going on in her life. I completely understand that, but we are paying you a good amount of money for you to not even be willing to answer a question that I need answered for another vendor. Up until a few days before our wedding she was trying to confirm details and had them all wrong.
We had clearly asked when touring the venue if they ever book two events on the property on the same day. I was told no. I was told I could have guests park at the barn and could rent golf carts to escort them up to the venue. When I showed up to set up for my rehearsal, there was another event setting up at the barn. I asked one of the male owners about it and he told me my events parking would now need to be up at my venue, and that people would need to park in the mud. I reminded him what I was told and what I had blatantly asked, and he told me it wasn't in the contract. So, I wasted $1000 on golf carts, and people were parking in the mud like a freaking redneck wedding. After the wedding, I asked to be compensated for that and mentioned that you can see cars all in the background of my photographs. Elizabeth told me I should have hired a better photographer.
Our contract said that we needed to vacate the venue by 10:00 P.M. the night of my wedding, but when I had been talking to Elizabeth leading up to the wedding she kept saying it was 11:00, and I just never checked my contract to confirm. So after our send-off at 9:30 the venue people were walking around telling everybody they and all of our stuff had to be out in less than 30 minutes, which ensued in mass chaos from our families packing up and the vendors. That incident is partially my fault for not confirming the leaving time, but it was just another example of communication issues.
These were just a few of the incidents that happened during my wedding. Like I said, the venue is beautiful and I think it is a pretty fair price. I would warn to get absolutely everything in the contract. There are four owners of the venue, and I would recommend possibly asking to work with one of the other three owners.
