The Sugar Flowers Of Your Dreams

Betsy and her Nine Cakes team are absolutely wonderful, and produced the wedding cake of our dreams for our June 2022 wedding. Betsy came highly recommended by our photographer, though we were already in love with her designs from seeing her work on Instagram and other wedding websites. Betsy's sugar flowers are UNREAL and unlike anything I've ever seen before. Betsy worked with us personally to discuss elements of the design and what we liked from her previous work; our only disappointment was not getting to do an in person cake tasting due to COVID! Nine Cakes sent us the cutest tasting box and we were thrilled to make a night out of cake tasting with my parents. We knew her cakes tasted great from our tasting box (sent perfectly packaged to our home!), but our venue coordinator told us guests were saying it was the best wedding cake they've ever had AND they were going back for seconds! For a family that loves dessert and a beautiful wedding cake, Betsy knocked it out of the park.

The ultimate wedding cake

Nine Cakes created the most stunning (and delicious) cake for our recent wedding. Originally, we were torn on whether to use real flowers or sugar flowers on the cake, and once we saw Nine Cakes, we were sold- and so happy with our decision! Apparently guests were placing bets on whether the flowers were real or not - the cake was that magical and fit our decor beautifully! As gorgeous as the cake was it was just as delicious. We brought the top home with the intention of freezing it but just couldn't help ourselves and ended up digging in haha. Many people went back for seconds. We ordered two flavors for the different layers- almond and vanilla cardamom. But every flavor we tried during our tasting was a winner.

Wedding Cake Cravings Beyond The Wedding

We absolutely LOVED our wedding cake from Nine Cakes. I was so happy that our venue packed our top tier so that we could indulge the morning after. We have also frozen a slice to share on our anniversary. We had a marble cake with two layers of strawberries and buttercream and a middle layer of buttercream and chocolate pearls. We worked with Haley and she was incredibly understanding when our original wedding was cancelled with 8 days notice due to covid. We changed up our design and made it simpler due to the smaller guest count. Our cake did not have any fondant which we loved - it made it so much easier when we did our cake cutting. It was also more fun to smear a little frosting on my husband's face that way. All in all, I wish their Hudson storefront could open a location in Manhattan so that we could stop in to pick up a little something when we are feeling nostalgic towards our wedding. Thank you Haley and team for baking our wedding cake. It was perfect.

Nine Cakes Wows

If you want an absolutely delicious cake that is stunning, you must use Nine Cakes. No one can compare! We absolutely loved the process of selecting the flavors (from home) and the design of our wedding cake. It was a true centerpiece to remember! We were told the additional vegan mini cakes were very tasty.

Beautiful and Delicious!

Betsy and Haley were a dream to work with and their level of talent was unreal. We wanted 3 smaller cakes for our wedding, instead of one large one. I had a couple of reference photos of what I liked, but in my mind they didn’t make sense together. They were able to design the cakes to have all the parts that I liked in my reference photos and were able to make the cakes look like they belonged together without being too matchy. The sugar flowers were so realistic, I had to actually bite one to convince a guest that they weren’t real flowers. On top of the cakes looking beautiful and fitting in seamlessly with the florals and décor of our wedding, they tasted incredible! We had 3 flavors: almond with raspberry, chocolate, and tiramisu, and I still can’t decide which one was my favorite. They also gave us extra boxes so we could take the leftovers to brunch the morning after our wedding. We were especially happy about this because we had so many people not able to come to our wedding last minute because of Covid. We could not have been happier with the cakes they made and our overall experience working with them. We are already talking about asking them to make a small cake for our 1st anniversary!

Amazing Wedding Cake!

Nine Cakes is absolutely amazing – both the team and the finished product! We really appreciated how easy it was to sample cakes with the cake sampler box. After narrowing down our favorites (which was so hard with so many yummy flavors), we had a great chat with Betsy to finalize the design. The final design was absolutely perfect and our guests loved comparing the different flavor combos we picked! We can’t wait to have the top tier of our cake in a year!!

SO delicious!

Working with Nine Cakes for our wedding was an amazing experience! My husband and I LOVE dessert so we were really focused on finding the right cake for our wedding. We tried out a few different tasting options in the beginning and it was clear right away that Nine Cakes was by far the best and most delicious option! Betsy was communicative, easy to work with, and totally got our vision (despite never meeting in person because of Covid!). Despite all the odds of wedding planning in 2020, Betsy made it such an enjoyable experience and we absolutely loved our cake!! We will be Nine Cakes customers for life :)

Creative flavors - big hit at the wedding!

Nine Cakes is a preferred vendor of the venue we booked, and was the only one we had to reach out to. We scheduled a cake tasting where you pick 4 flavors ahead of time (the cost of which can be deducted from your eventual spend). It was difficult to choose, but Betsy let us know we could mix and match with the different tiers, which we took full advantage of! We opted for a simpler design, but were impressed by the variety and quality of their past work. Our only regret is not putting the flavors on our wedding menu, as I'm sure our guests would have loved to try more than one had they known!

Beautiful and delicious cake!

My husband I chose Nine Cakes for our wedding cake because we fell in love with their aesthetic, and they definitely did not disappoint. They did a really good job of capturing the mood we wanted to convey, and the cake fit in perfectly with the rest of the wedding venue and décor. Also, the cake was delicious! We did alternating layers using two different combinations (chocolate cake with espresso buttercream and hazelnut cake with white chocolate buttercream and fresh strawberries), and they were both amazing. We can't wait until our first wedding anniversary so that we can eat our saved top layer!

Delicious custom wedding cake

Working with Nine Cakes on our wedding was easy, fun, and of course, delicious. They were lovely to coordinate and communicate with and the process was straightforward. Fabulous Wedding Cake!

At our wedding planner's suggestion, we arranged a tasting with NineCakes and wound up ordering one of their delicious cakes for our wedding. It was perfect! We wanted a simple and elegant tiered buttercream cake (which our florist decorated with fresh flowers) and we got exactly that! If you're looking for excellent service, extraordinary flavors, and a beautiful final product, you won't be disappointed by NineCakes!

The most beautiful cake

Betsy is incredible! Our cake was a true work of art, and our guests could not believe the florals were made of icing. She took direction from our floral design, and made a cake that truly complemented our secret garden wedding vibes. And, it was so delicious! Nine Cakes made a beautiful and delicious wedding cake for us. They have a great menu of unique flavors that you can try at the tasting. After meeting Betsy at the tasting, we immediately decided to book her based on both her delicious cakes and absolutely delightful personality. She is truly one of the nicest people you will ever meet and was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. We ultimately decided to go with two flavors—Chocolate/Salted Caramel and Vanilla Cardamom/Raspberry—and both were amazing. Betsy created a beautiful design for our cake and topped it off with stunning sugar flowers. We highly recommend Nine Cakes!

Beautiful cake!

Nine Cakes made the most beautiful wedding cake for us. We were initially unsure of the cake design we wanted, as we liked many designs so in the end we just told them our vision and asked them to make it a surprise for us. We didn’t see the cake until our wedding reception and wow, it was beautiful, and they really did deliver! On top of the cake looking good, it tasted so delicious that our guests gave so many compliments and kept asking what flavor we got (Hazelnut). Communication was fantastic; Betsy and Jess were very responsive. We highly recommend Nine Cakes for wedding cake needs!

Cake of our dreams!

We absolutely loved working with Nine Cakes for our wedding. We came across them on Instagram and fell in love with the look of their cakes. They were the only tasting we did, because after eating the cakes, we knew it was the right choice for us. They taste even better than they look. We met with Betsy for our tasting, who was so friendly and collaborative. Stunning AND Delicious!!!

I have been joking that I got married for the cake... which is only partially true ;) BUT this cake was off-the-charts delicious and SO beautiful! I was impressed by their unique menu - we chose an almond cake with a coconut meringue frosting and chocolate morsels. It was incredible and many people have told me they had multiple slices! AND they didn't charge us for the tasting (which everyone else does understandably but I was still impressed by that choice). Betsy was lovely to work with during a very stressful time. I'm over the moon with my choice of cake (and can't wait to eat the one slice next year that I was able to freeze because the venue hid it!) BRAVO!

Delicious and Beautiful Wedding Cake!

I ordered my wedding cake from Nine Cakes, and from start to finish, working with Betsy and her team was a joy. Our cake tasting was so wonderful, we had a tough time deciding on just one flavor and ened up combining a few! Betsy worked with us to create our own custom design, and even sketched it out in front of us so we could picture it. Her team was timely, professional and most importantly, created a beautiful and delicious cake that was enjoyed by everyone at the event.

From the start to the finish, Nine Cakes was amazing. They are responsive and creative, open to ideas and just generally pleasant and calm to work with. The cake was gorgeous - we were sad to cut into it! But we are so glad we did because it was delicious to the point that it was ALL eaten! We barely escaped with the topper in tact. The sugar flowers were perfect and uncannily realistic. Ours was on the traditional side but as you can see on their instagram feed, None Cakes can do it all. I knew I wanted to work with Nine Cakes early into the wedding planning process because of their drool-worthy Instagram - I never knew I'd be the kind of girl to lust after a cake! Betsy and her team are masters at their craft and they really create stunning works of art. After our cake tasting, my (now) husband and I were shocked at how delicious their cakes are as well - it was too hard to narrow down to one flavor, so we ended up incorporating a couple. When it came time for our wedding cake, the team absolutely nailed what I was going for - an aesthetic I couldn't even properly articulate (and I'm an interior designer, so shame on me!), but Betsy was completely aligned with. The delicate details were so beautiful and perfectly matched with our incredible flowers and overall decor. Thank you, thank you Nine Cakes we love you! xx

I had to do my wedding cake planning via email since my schedule did not allow me to visit beforehand, and from the very beginning Nine Cakes made it so easy! They emailed back as many times as needed and were so helpful and patient! I decided on a combination of two designs I saw on their Instagram and it came out gorgeous! Nine Cakes is so talented! Their fresh, new designs for wedding cakes is what drew me to them. If you want a cake that stands out, this is your baker. Not to mention, I choose the vanilla orange blossom cake with orange cream cheese icing and pistachios...omg. People are still asking me what flavor that was because of how delicious. The pistachios seemed to melt in your mouth like little chocolate chips. I’ve never seen or tasted anything like it!

Where do you even start with Nine Cakes? Every aspect of working with them is a pleasure. Jess and her entire staff are warm, friendly, and professional. Communication is easy, fast, and clear. Their cake flavors are a little unique (read: not run of the mill boring) are DELICIOUS and so creative. It was truly hard to make a selection! The shop itself is cute, and so fun to go for a tasting. The cakes themselves--stunning. STUNNING! If a non-traditional, non-classic white cake (even though I am sure they would do that beautifully, too) is your thing, GO HERE. Cake pricing was very reasonable, especially with all of the extra decorations and sugar flowers we had. We talked to some cake vendors that charged $30-$50 per sugar flower! We had a winter wedding, and I wanted a dark cake rich with texture and dark flowers, and they executed perfectly. We got so many compliments on how beautiful and elegant the cake was, and even more delicious! Best decision. Thank you, Nine Cakes!

Nine Cakes is AMAZING!

I just got married this past weekend, and could not be happier that I went with Nine Cakes! I wanted something different and a little edgier than your typical white wedding cake. Once I saw their portfolio of amazing cakes, it was clear they could do anything. I trusted them so much that I just sent them some photos (invitations, colors, aesthetic we were going for) and told them to do whatever they wanted! The cake that showed up at the wedding was PERFECT. It was edgy with our moody color palette but still absolutely stunning with flowers that made several people ask me "Are those real flowers?" and were shocked to discover that they were sugar flowers. It was a piece of art and my husband and I actually felt bad cutting it!

Not only was the cake stunning, but it was delicious too! Every guest that had cake came up to me at some point raving about how delicious it was and confessing they couldn't stop at just one piece. You really can't go wrong with Nine Cakes for any of your cake needs!

We met with Betsy for our cake tasting prior to booking and she was incredibly kind, warm and helpful in creating our dream wedding cake. All of the flavors we tried were SO delicious, which made it very hard to choose. Our guests continue to tell us how yummy our cake was and it was beautifully decorated as well. Looking forward to having it again on our one year anniversary :) I would highly recommend Nine Cakes, they are truly talented!

We are so glad that we ordered our wedding cake from Nine Cakes! Their flavors are incredible--and it was hard to choose, both for the tasting and the cake itself. I would have paid for the tasting, but I really appreciated that it was complimentary. We tried some flavors from another vendor and had to pay for the tasting, and had tiny bites (that ended up not being good), whereas Nine Cakes gave us four beautiful little cakes to share. They were big enough to share with my Mom & Step-dad, which made it a fun and inclusive process. We ended up going with strawberry shortcake, vanilla with mayan chocolate buttercream, and banana with peanut buttercream, all of which were big hits with our guests. The actual cake was beautiful, too. Jess was a pleasure to work with and helped us keep our budget in mind as we made our decisions. Also, we got married out of New York City, but a family friend just picked up the cake and brought it the wedding, without any issues. Even if Nine Cakes can't deliver the cake, it is still possible to make it work. I would highly recommend Nine Cakes.

I would highly recommend Nine Cakes for your next event. Our wedding cake was designed just for us. We wanted a square shaped three tiered cake with navy blue bands and flowers along the side. It didn't look like any of the samples photos in the shop. Needless to say, there's always some anxiety as to how the end result would turn out. When I saw the cake on our wedding day I immediately loved it. It was absolutely perfect! It's exactly what we wanted and the sugar flowers were impressive and strategically placed. It's easy to see that lots of thought, time and effort went into our cake which made us feel valued as customers. The ladies at Nice Cakes are all pleasant and responsive. Working with Nine Cakes was an easy and wonderful experience.

Betsy was a pleasure to work with. Choosing and designing our cake was one of the more enjoyable parts of our wedding planning process. The cake came out beautiful - exactly how we pictured it. Betsy even got the sugar flowers on the cake to match our reception flowers. And it tasted amazing! We picked 4 flavors to try during our tasting. They were all fantastic. We had a difficult time narrowing it down to 1, so we went with 2 (we had a 4 tier cake - 2 with each flavor). I expected a cake like this to cost several grand, but not even close. Betsy's prices are super reasonable. Strongly recommend!

Betsy is the sweetest vendor ever. Her cake was absolutely beautiful. What stood apart was the taste. I've had many events and used different cake vendor but although they looked beautiful on the outside, they never tasted good. Nine cakes was the best tasting cake I ever had! We had no wedding cake to take home and save!!!!! It was that good. People still talk about it being the best cake they ever tasted.

We struggled trying to find a cake baker that did buttercream (because there is nothing I hate more than fondant) and also had interesting flavors. I wanted a cake that tasted delicious, but also looked pretty too, which was surprisingly hard to find. When we found Nine Cakes, we knew we did not have to look any further. We ended up choosing the pistachio cake with the orange cream cheese frosting. I may be biased, but it was the best wedding cake I have ever had. It was also stunning - her sugar flowers are absolutely unbelievably beautiful. We went her our florist's inspiration board and she completely captured the look that we were going for. Betsy was also so lovely to work with. I very highly recommend Nine Cakes if you are looking for a really tasty cake that is gorgeous too!!

Our wedding cake tasted great and looked amazing. Betsy helped us pick flavors that we loved, and came up with an understated design influenced by our china pattern for the tiers and topped with amazing sugar flowers. I really like floral flavors, so we ended up with chocolate lavender, almond rosewater raspberry, and orange blossom lemon strawberry. All were great, and we were very impressed overall.

Betsy and her team are amazing. I worked with Betsy via email only, because I had already heard so many good things about her cakes. She was incredibly responsive and flexible, given I changed my mind a few times, and she offered her professional suggestions based on what I was trying to achieve which I am grateful for. I even had a few last minute favors to ask of her which she did so very willingly. My cake was amazing. It was absolutely beautiful and so so good. I had two gluten free baby cakes done for a couple of guests which of course were just as perfect. You can't go wrong with Betsy and her team at Nine Cakes.

Betsy and her team at Nine Cakes were a pleasure to work with. We were able to choose four different cakes for our tasting from Betsy's regular and seasonal menu, and decided to go with a hazelnut cake with frangelico and salted caramel frosting. It tasted amazing during our tasting and even better on our wedding day. And the cake was stunning. We brought Betsy a picture for inspiration, described what we wanted, and the end result was an amazingly beautiful and totally delicious cake! We highly recommend Betsy and Nine Cakes!

What a great and talented crew over at Nine cakes
We had ideas and pictures to show them for an Art Deco wedding cake, and we gave them total artistic freedom and could not of been happier.
The tasting at the shop was a great experience and we chose a 3 tier black and gold almond cake with white chocolate, caramel, and fresh strawberry filling. Our guests raved about the cake calling it rich, beautiful, and decadent.

We worked with Betsy for our wedding on July 26, 2014 at The Liberty Warehouse. We first met Betsy at her shop for our tasting. Right away, we could tell how genuine and down to earth she is. We tried different cake flavors, and appreciated Betsy's suggestions. It was easy to tell that she is knowledgeable and a true, creative artist. We decided on a "naked cake" with frosting only in between the layers of cake and not on the outside - I showed Betsy 1-2 pictures, and she completely nailed it. The cake turned out more beautiful than I dreamed, and it tasted delicious as well. Our guests raved about the uniqueness and deliciousness of the cake for days afterwards! Betsy of Nine Cakes was amazing! I got married at the Brooklyn winery on 6/20/14. She's so sweet and her cakes are a work of art. A lot of wedding cakes I've had look pretty but don't taste as good, not the case with nine cakes!
We opted for the dark chocolate with salted Caramel buttercream and the vanilla cake with fresh raspberries and white chocolate buttercream both were so good! We can't wait for our one year anniversary to eat more of it! We also chose to use real flowers on our cake but her sugar flower work and attention to detail is also impeccable! Betsy was a pleasure to work with I would highly recommend her!!

My husband and I contacted Betsy just a few weeks out from our wedding – she was super responsive and easy to work with.

Her designs were so beautiful, I gave her just minimal directions so she could just run with her own creativity. I am so thankful I did, her cake was more gorgeous than I could have imagined. And it tasted heavenly too!

We even had a few guests tell us they took photos of our cake because it was such a work of art.

On our anniversary we plan on having Betsy "remake" us a cake because we were so happy with the turn out.

We hired Betsy from Nine Cakes to make our wedding cake this past summer. Betsy is the best around !!! She is not only the nicest person to work with, but she knows her stuff and makes one delicious cake!! Her list of flavors is so extensive, we had a tough time picking what to taste during our tasting, so much so that we ended up with two tasting sessions. I also had found a picture of a cake design online that I had fallen in love with, and Betsy not only replicated it, but made it look even better in person. The nuances of different whites and light lavendars on the petals were so carefully done and beautiful, she has a great eye for design. She was also so patient, professional and thoughtful throughout the process, keeping in mind that I have a crazy work schedule and was planning my wedding from afar. She executed the cake to perfection !! People couldnt stop taking pictures, and we received so many compliments on the taste - it wasnt your run of the mill "wedding cake", it was gourmet :) We had two amazing flavors alternating in our 5-tiered cake: coconut cake with layers of lime curd, coconut buttercream, and toasted coconut flakes, AND chocolate cake with layers of caramel buttercream, fleur de sel, and roasted pecans. The outside had a beautifully smooth yet light Vanilla buttercream (since we didnt want to use fondant) but the crisp, smooth finish was still there. Delicious !! Betsy, I personally cant thank you enough for making a truly memorable cake - you have a lifelong client in me.

Betsy and Nine Cakes was our first and last stop in our wedding cake search (thanks to the amazing reviews from this very site!).

From the first email exchange to the tasting and to the big day, I have nothing but amazing things to say. The cake we picked was this DELICIOUS mayan chocolate spiced with a hint of chili. I don't remember much from the wedding, but I do remember the taste of that cake on my tongue and the amazing work of all our vendors.

If you want a cake that looks fantastic AND tastes amazing, Nine cakes is the way to go. We looked at a dozen cake shops in the NYC area and did tastings with 5 or 6. For the majority of shops it was 100% clear after research and a tasting that they were focused on their cakes either looking good OR tasting good but not both. Hands down, Nine Cakes had the best looking cakes and the best tasting cakes of everyone we looked at.

We wanted a round white four-tier cake, with geometric horizontal lines in a fuchsia to pink ombre; this sounds simple but trust me when I say we've seen A LOT of examples of people screwing up this design. Before we met with Nine Cakes we were using a picture of one of their cakes as the example for everyone we spoke to and in the end they did an even better job on our cake than the picture we were using. It could not have looked more amazing.

And taste. Seriously, there's a good chance you've never had a piece of cake this good, at a wedding or elsewhere, ever. We went with alternating tiers of lemon cake with raspberry filling and red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and both were good enough to silence anyone eating it, sometimes mid-sentence. Steadfast dieters had multiple slices of this cake. It's so good that if you missed you would regret it. I'm contemplating calling them about smaller non-wedding cakes just to get another fix.

My husband and I were planning a very unconventional wedding at The Foundry in Long Island City. We knew we wanted an entire dessert table that coordinated with our unique Harry Potter theme. Betsy not only embraced our theme, she brought it to life. She created a lavish dessert spread with 10 different items including a butterbeer-flavored wedding cake (topped with two owls), treacle fudge, chocolate cauldron cakes and earl gray shortbread cookies. It was perfectly whimiscal and was the centerpiece of our entire reception.

Betsy was absolutely a pleasure to work with and our wedding could not have been a success without her. She was always prompt with her email responses, adjusted to last minute requests/changes and had reasonableproces (dessert tables range from $8-$11 per person).

I highly recommend Betsy for your own wedding! We plan on placing an order with her again soon!

Betsy of Nine Cakes is AMAZING! I contacted her 2 months before my wedding asking her to do 5 different 10-inch cakes for my wedding. She said yes, thank goodness! I chose 5 different cakes from her Spring Menu of Signature cakes, and had her decorate them in her signature way, she just added spring green and silver decorations to tie them all together. (I also rented 2 cake stands. My wedding planner picked up the cakes and stands, and returned them the next week.)

So I should probably admit that professionally, I'm a restaurant pastry chef, with no time and no space to make my own cakes. (I also couldn't bare to choose one or two flavors of cake, so I chose 5.) Betsy's cakes were simply beautiful and elegant. And they tasted DELICIOUS! Our guests raved about the cakes! In fact, friends of ours who are getting married this month, called their original cake baker and cancelled just so they could have Betsy do their cakes!

After the whole beautiful day, my husband and I sat down with 5 to-go containers and tasted all of the cakes at the hotel. They were all just lovely!

I am so glad that Betsy was so responsive and flexible that she was willing to work with me at such late notice. Her cakes were pretty and yummy, and they were a HUGE HIT at our wedding!

Ummm... scrumptious... wonderful.... light, airy... dare I say it -- magical?

Those were just some of the adjectives that come to mind when I think about eating my delicious wedding cake that Betsy and Emily created for us. I attended a NY Magazine wedding event in March 2011 where I first met Betsy and tried a ridiculous coconut cupcake she made... that had to be the 12th piece of cake I had at that event, and the only one that stuck in my mind nearly a year later when I contacted her for a tasting for our wedding that was around the corner. There was something much different about it than all the others, and there was some good stuff there, believe me! But while a lot of others focused mostly on presentation and the flavors and taste were average-good... Nine Cakes had it all for me... simplistic, yet beautiful designs... with a huge focus on creative flavors and combos. If you're going to spend all that money on a cake or cupcakes for a special day... especially your Wedding Day -- it better be damn good. And ours was.

Our cake tasting was so much fun. We chose the butter cream flavors and the cake flavors beforehand, Emily put them all together for us and we tried it all together. She also very sweetly made us some tea to wash it down with. My new husband wouldn't stop eating it... to be honest we wanted all 4 or 5 of the flavors we tasted... but whittled it down to 2: Mayan chocolate butter cream with dark chocolate cake & caramel butter cream with Fleur de sell and vanilla cake... we both had both flavors at our wedding. Everyone raved about them especially the chocolate. You would think chocolate on chocolate would be heavy --- think again as you try this piece.

The decoration of the cake was P E R F E C T. It was exactly what we talked about and then some. Betsy is very responsive via email and is a joy to work with.

We took the cake top home to "freeze for the 1yr anniversary"... which I heard is a pretty gross tradition, but did it anyway... too bad it never made it to the freezer. We polished it off by the next day... I like that tradition better :)

It was a super pleasant and easy choice from start to finish with Nine Cakes. It's a no-brainer... they are the best.

My cakes were a HUGE hit!
When we met with Emily for our tasting we had been thinking about cupcakes. We were so impressed by their style and the amazing flavors that we ended up getting a cake for each of our 14 guest tables! We went over our very small budget, but it was absolutely worth it!
Whether you choose cupcakes or full cakes, you will not be disappointed!

OMG amazing! Betsy was so fabulous. So sweet and creative. We did a cupcake tower with one tier on top to cut. Wide range of flavors and they all tasted sooo good it was so hard to choose. We worked together to design the top tier and I can't get over how perfect it came out. She isn't crazy $$ either, and is such a great value!! You must go to her for a tasting at least. I promise you will love her and her cakes.

Betsy at Nine Cakes is fantastic- she was so easy to work with, professional, very sweet, and makes delicious cakes! The tasting was so much fun for my now-husband and I, as the store is so cute. She has such incredible icing and cake options, and really worked with us to find the perfect combinations. We settled on an almond cake with passion-fruit and raspberry icings; and a red velvet cake with cream cheese, to compliment the chocolate-souffle desert at Cipriani. The fondant cake looked beautiful- I had a specific vision and photo, and Betsy was able to achieve it. She was also very detail oriented making sure to get the exact colors and flowers I wanted on the cake.

Delivery was seamless and professional. Overall Nine Cakes was fantastic to work with and a great choice for for a wedding cake vendor!

I contacted Betsy at Nine Cakes about 4 weeks before our wedding, which was no problem for her at all. We live in England so great communication was essential for us when planning our wedding in New York. Betsy's communication was excellent! All of her emails were very reassuring and I had every faith that she would create a wonderful cake for us. I wasn't wrong!

The cake was beautiful! I had peonies in my bouquet and Betsy had created sugar peonies for the cake - they were amazing! We had a small wedding but Betsy still gave us the elements of a BIG wedding with her amazingly cute 3 tier cake. We had 2 different flavours; Vanilla bean cake with layers of raspberry butter cream and fresh raspberries / Golden almond cake with a pinch of cardamom, layered with heavenly rosewater butter cream. They were heavenly! All of our guests commented on how wonderful the cake tasted and looked.

The cake had been beautifully setup at our venue in plenty of time for our arrival at our reception. Everything about the planning was completely easy with Betsy.

I would definitely recommend Nine Cakes to any couples who are looking to get married in New York. I just wish we lived there so we could use Betsy for all our future celebrations!

Nine Cakes, with its amazing owner Betsy, is everything you could ask for from a wedding cake vendor and more. Not only are Betsy's cakes fantastic looking AND delicious, but Betsy herself is a true professional -- extremely responsive, friendly, and great at listening to design ideas and executing them in her beautiful way. From the moment we met Betsy, we knew we could trust her completely-- both in understanding our vision and in being completely on top of even the most mundane logistics (such as venue restrictions on cake delivery or if our venue would provide a cake cutter, etc). She asked all the right questions, provided amazing suggestions, and ultimately provided us with an absolutely showstopping cake. Betsy was by far one of our best vendors, requiring very little guidance while delivering the most amazing end product. She was an absolute pleasure to work with and I would recommend her to anyone, but she probably doesn't need me to as her cakes and her professionalism speak for themselves!

Betsy of Nine Cakes provided my wedding cake for my July 29, 2011 wedding in Manhattan. WOW. The cake was phenomenal both in appearance (handmade flowers of all different shapes, sizes, and color combinations that matched my flowers perfectly...she consulted with my florist... with a smooth and heavenly-looking buttercream frosting) and taste (chocolate cake with mint frosting). So many people told me they really enjoyed the cake (many didn't know that it was wedding cake as it was THAT good) and it was a challenge for for my husband and me to not eat the top layer and instead freeze it for my 1-year anniversary. Thank you Betsy and Nine Cakes!!!!!!!

Betsy was amazing and sweet to work with. The minute we arrived at the tasting we knew this was the right vendor for us. Her professionalism and love for baking really comes across. She is also very flexible to new ideas. We ordered a three tier vanilla buttercream covered cake consisting of a red velvet bottom tier with white chocolate filling, an orange blossom cake with earl grey ganache & poire williams buttercream filled second tier, and a top tier of lemon cake with passion fruit curd & passion fruit buttercream. Working with Betsy at Nine Cakes was such an amazing, effortless experience! She is amazing at what she does and we were already in love with her signature aesthetic so planning our cake was so easy. We surprised her at the tasting by bringing a few more people than expected and it wasn't a problem for her at all. We chose 2 flavors, chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream and almond cake with salted caramel buttercream (my favorite, and her suggestion) and both were so delicious and well-received. She even made a special mini-cake for our relatives with nut allergies. My mother-in-law is into baking and she and Betsy got along so well. She even hired Betsy to make cupcakes for my bridal shower, too. I would recommend Nine Cakes to everyone I know!

I contacted Betsy a few weeks before my Wedding.
I was making my own cake topper and I was able to email her what I wanted my cake to look like.
It was a breeze, she was so patient and lovely to work with.

Betsy made the most extravagantly delicious five layer cake -- lemon, almond, red velvet, chocolate orange and chocolate caramel, delivered to the Eventi Hotel in New York, which displayed it very well. The cake was in turquoise fondant with gorgeous painstakingly crafted orange flowers and looked wonderful but the really important thing was how fresh and delicious it tasted... people loved it. The cake was something like $11 a slice, not bad for NY!

Not only did Betsy of Nine Cakes make the best wedding cake I've ever tasted for our wedding, she was the consummate professional, easy to work with, incredibly pleasant and sweet, and hands down the best of all of our vendors. Every single person at our wedding commented on how fresh and delicious our cake was, and we could not agree more, it was truly not your typical wedding cake. Beyond how unbelievably delicious the cake was, Betsy's creativity also resulted in a beautiful looking cake. She matched the style of our invitation perfectly, bringing to life a difficult pattern that she transposed beautifully onto the cake. We can not say enough good to express how thrilled we were with our cake and with Betsy of Nine Cakes. Highly recommend for anyone interested in a fantastic (not to mention affordable) wedding cake!

I loved working with Betsy from our tasting through the wedding. We had a large wedding so we did multiple cakes and mini-cupcakes. That way we were able to do a lot of combinations of cakes and buttercreams. They were all so delicious that it was hard to choose. Our guests really enjoyed the cake at the wedding and the next day. I wanted a wedding cake that actually tasted good and Betsy's cakes are the best.

I wish I could get married again just to rehire Nine Cakes. My (now) wife wanted individual-sized cakes for each guest, and Betsy ran with the idea and did a great job. It seriously blew our guest's minds when they saw all those tiny cakes -- and I blew my waistline after the wedding eating all the leftovers. Delicious, creative flavors, beautifully decorated by a really nice person.

I'm not going to say anything others haven't already said! Betsy is adorable and so easy to work with. Very responsive. And she has such fun, wonderful ideas! She designed our cake based on our save-the-date. :) When we went in the first time, she had a whole tasting set up and we were able to pick two different buttercream frostings to go with our lemon cake. (Try the lavender!) She was fun and flexible, and she drew us a beautiful design and then matched it really nicely. We had leaves all over our cake -- buttercream leaves! And they looked amazing! We were so happy with her, I would recommend her to anyone for any cake.

Oh, and did I mention that the cake was delicious? MMMMMM!

Betsy/Ninecakes is fantastic. Our wedding cake was absolutely delicious, people are still talking about it 2 months later. And it was the most beautiful cake!! Betsy was so easy to work with, very responsive, excellent value and so creative. I can't recommend her highly enough. I looked at a bunch of vendors but Betsy stood out above everyone else. We even were able to do 2 different flavors of cake (red velvet and carrot) and different flavor buttercreams within the layers, and it was so delicious. Everyone tried both flavors and had lots of complements from our guests who loved the cake as much as we did. I strongly recommend Betsy!!! She's the best!!!!

My husband already wrote a review for Betsy, but I was posting wedding pictures on our blog today and I wrote a bunch of wonderful things about our wedding cake and cupcakes, and realized that I should share my feelings somewhere where others can see!

Since my husband already touched on a lot of things, I really just want to comment on how beautiful Betsy's cakes are. My husband and I had our tasting well in advance of our wedding, so the look of the wedding changed slightly between the time we met with Besty for our tasting and the actual wedding. Betsy touched base with me a month or so before the wedding, and it was at that time that I sent her some photos of some of the design elements I had crafted for the wedding. She wrote me back immediately, and asked if she could change some of her original ideas for the cake & cupcakes. I said "of course", because I trusted her design sensibility...and the result was amazing. I was literally floored when I walked into our wedding reception and saw the cake & cupcakes. The best part was that they looked like nothing I had ever seen before - I felt as thought my wedding cake & cupcakes were completely unique, and one of a kind. For a bride, that's huge, because we all want our weddings to look and feel different and special.

If you want a gorgeous cake or cupcakes for your wedding go to Betsy. Let her interpret your design aesthetic and make something beautiful. You won't be sorry - I promise you that!

We met Betsy after being led to her website by a friend who was doing her own research on wedding cakes. We had previously been led to another vendor on the LES of Manhattan, and sweet...they were not. I already had a poor taste in my mouth (I was not a cake eater growing up, and frankly up until we met Betsy, maybe I had cake 3 times in 25 years), so I was a little hesitant going in. You could say I felt like I was left in the oven a little too long. That absolutely changed right when I walked in the door. Not only did Betsy have her tasting all set up, but was so sweet and sugary towards myself and my now wife. She was open, able, and willing to do anything that we wanted, making awesome suggestions along the way. She even entertained my terrible jokes and my suggestion of making a BBQ sauce cupcake. The tasting was all I needed to get back on track towards sugary perfection. Over the next few months, she kept in contact with us, was extremely prompt with her replies (pet peeve alert), and always asked the RIGHT questions. I think she is very thoughtful, observant, and a fantastic businesswoman who also has a lot of fun with what she is doing. I suppose I have to talk about this before I talk about the wedding...but my wife ordered me a birthday cake for my birthday in July (we got married in October) so this was the first "test", if you can call it that. I have NEVER had a birthday cake since maybe I was 2 years old, so this was a big deal. It was a cornbread cake with frosting...and the best cake I ever ate. It was so great. It was a huge cake, so I shared it with some random people in Bryant Park, and they scarfed it down as well, therefore...I knew everyone would love our wedding cake/cupcakes. Fast forward a couple of months....the cupcakes and cake arrived exactly on time and looked amazing. A lot of people have cheesy cupcakes...these were the work of an artisan. The guests loved them, and since there were a lot, pretty much everyone who wanted took them home, including my mother and sister who raved about the quality. I had a wonderful experience, and save yourself the trips and the other tastings, and please go to Nine Cakes. Trust me!

My cake is the red and turquoise one with the intricate design on top. Need I say more? Even if it isn't your style, you have to admit that it was executed beautifully.
We found Betsy through a friend. Or rather through a cake at a friend's party. We are so glad she baked that friend's cake or our wedding one would not have been as spectacular.

The task set before her was not going to be simple, as demonstrated during the tasting. She had to deal with me, my partner, and my mother! After patiently sitting with us for at least an hour, we decided that we had to have a cake and the mini-cupcakes. All of the options were too delicious to just settle on one combination. She had genoise, shortbread, red velvet, almond butter cream, chocolate fondant, and on and on and on...

We settled on a tiered strawberry shortcake cake and one hundred one-bite cupcakes with varying combinations. A favorite was the lemon cake with almond frosting. Yum. But that was just the beginning of her headache. Next we, or rather I, decided that I wanted an indigenous symbol that we had used on our invitations, to adorn the cake. That was no small feat, but Betsy came through with an exact replication. She also followed through with my desire to only use local, seasonal strawberries from a local farmer's market.

In terms of price and flexibility, I have to give her 6 out 5 stars. We paid a reasonable rate, not over-the-top Manhattan prices. She delivered the cake to Westchester and was very patient in waiting for us to return the cake props.

Needless to say that the cake, the presentation, and the one-biters were a huge hit. We could not have been happier with the outcome. We happily and wholeheartedly recommend her!

p.s. It also doesn't hurt that she is one of the sweetest, gentlest, yet passionate people I have ever met. It was such a relief to work with someone who "got" what were trying to do- have as environmentally sustainable wedding as we could, grounded in our values of social justice and equality.

We met Betsy through our wedding planner Danielle Bobish. Our idea was to have a cupcake buffet at the end of the night. Betsy was so responsive and attentive during the process of creating unique mini-cupcakes for our event. She even dropped off samples of the flavors for us to our apartment!! We also appreciated Betsy's flexibility in delivering and providing us with some rentals. The cupcakes were so beautiful and delicious and were the hit of the party!! Thank you, thank you!

I found Ninecakes through a friend who had tried their cupcakes at an event and loved them. I loved them too after the trial tasting! I ordered (Betsy's suggestion...) a mix of regular and minis and had them set up on a cardboard tier (ordered thru Sav-on-crafts). Everyone raved about the cupcakes at the wedding! Sadly, neither my husband nor I got a cupcake, despite ordering many hundreds. I had planned to order cupcake boxes because I thought there would surely be extras.. but there were NONE! A great testament to Betsy and her baking... we had "standard" flavors plus some exotics (caramel fleur de sel, etc). Amazing.
Betsy was great to deal with - very responsive, very helpful and extremely professional. The cupcakes were absolutely beautiful - very minimal, yet not precious. My husband is a modern architect, and very picky about everything - and the fact that he approved of them speaks volumes!

The flavors are amazing -- they are sophisticated without getting into the "weird" category. Definitely include the red velvet in your order!

Dear Brides,

I planned our "Brooklyn Wedding" in 3 months during the summer of 2009. Needless to say things got hectic. Betsy was such a pleasure to work with. She was professional, responded quickly to my emails & even came over to our house with cupcake samples! The cake turned out beautifully and just so delicious. She even delivered it herself. Organizing even the most simple wedding can be overwhelming. Once I ordered my cake with Betsy I was able to relax. I highly recommend her.

I met Betsy at the Bridal Bootcamp as she was a wedding vendor there. She had provided samples of her wonderful cupcakes and the minute I tasted one, I was floored! I quickly grabbed one of her cards and called her a few days later. I loved the cakes so much that I asked Betsy if she could make 300 of the mini-cupcakes for my wedding favors and she happily obliged. I got married a month ago and I am still getting rave reviews from my guests about the cupcake favors from Nine Cakes.

Her cakes are exquisite. They were moist, fluffy and had just about the right amount of buttercream frosting (which was light, not too sweet, whipped and overall AMAZING!). NineCakes isn't your average bakery, the menu consists of creative flavors and a multitude of unique options that it's hard to choose just one.

Betsy is just an amazing person and has sincere dedication to her products. She was friendly, easily approachable and always wrote or called me back when I would try to contact her. Since my wedding, she has officially become my "pastry source" as I have already ordered two birthday cakes and cupcakes from her and will continue to do so in the future. Hello Brides to Be
I met Betsy at one of the NY Bridal Expos... and I could easily say the only reason why it paid off to have went. Since then, I have commissioned TWO birthday cakes and my wedding favors. I was so impressed by her petit four samples at the expo, I knew I wanted them at my wedding. Her work seemed so flavorful and sophisticated.

I just got married (9/2009) on a farm and it was really important for me that all aspects incorporate my honey theme. After discussing a few key ideas, she had a proposal back to me within 1 day and I made ZERO changes. I am a pretty anal-retentive person, but she just gets it! It was probably the easiest vendor exchange I had throughout my wedding planning.

The petit fours exceeded all expectations and they were gone within minutes once word got out they were so delicious. Even the venue was impressed with the quality and complexity of Betsy's work.

I look forward to working with Betsy/Nine Cakes again!

We looked at a lot of vendors before deciding to go with Nine Cakes. From the moment we showed up for the tasting, we knew from the effort she put into it that we were going to get phenomenal cakes. Betsy was far and away the best vendor we've worked with, she was conscientious, excited to work with us, and she obviously loves baking cakes. She gave us individual attention, worked with our ridiculous needs, and in the end gave us better cakes than we asked for. Honestly, her cakes were one of the best parts of our wedding - and that's saying a lot.

It was an incredible pleasure working with someone who loves what she does, was playful and willing to talk to us, and - most importantly - produces such a beautiful product.

Let’s just cut to it – Betsy and her staff at Nine Cakes are incredible. These cakes aren’t just stunning (their flower sugar work is mind blowing), but they’re delicious! Like want to eat this every day of my life kind of good.

My fiancé and I went back and forth about whether or not we wanted to have a traditional wedding cake for our big day. After all the majority of the wedding cakes we’ve had at other weddings have been dry, underwhelming and a complete waste. But then our venue (The Foundry) recommended we check out Nine Cakes…

So after checking their website, drooled over the cake flavor options, and stalked their Instagram account, we quickly scheduled our tasting. After that, there was no longer a debate about having a cake or not, it was then what flavor do we want and what should it look like.

We got so many of our friends and family comment on how beautiful and delicious the cake was. We are so glad that Nine Cakes was a part of our big day!

Wedding Favors

Nine cakes provided our wedding favors of macaroons for our guests. They were very communicative and worked with us on packaging and favors. Great feedback from guests on the taste of the macaroons, and we enjoyed them also.

The sweetest part of our wedding!

Working with Betsy and the team at Nine Cakes was a DREAM. I have had Nine Cakes at a variety of family birthdays and celebrations, but working with them on my wedding cake was truly special. I don't even know where to start. A cake was very important to me. I wanted it to be part of the decor, I wanted it to be delicious, and I wanted it to be worthy of a formal cake cutting. When looking online Nine Cakes was the only company that seemed to meet all that criteria, then my wedding planner also recommend them and that sealed the deal.

From the first tasting I knew I had made the right decision. The cakes were all so good and the presentation lovely. Everyone was really responsive and amazingly helpful.

And then the cake on the day of the wedding was incredible! A beautiful centerpiece that was also delicious. If you want something classic, elegant and timeless, this is the company for you!

We found Nine Cakes through the Wedding Crashers event held in Brooklyn earlier this year. There were several other bakeries there, but they had the most beautiful display, and the smell was AMAZING. We booked a tasting with Betsy, and everything was so delicious! It was hard to pick just one flavor, so we decided on a 3-tiered main cake, and 2 sides cakes so we could have 2 flavors. She was great to work with, so sweet and she did an amazing job!

We only had one VERY minor complaint. After the excitement of the wedding died down, I realized that the 2 sides cakes were the wrong color. They were supposed to be lavender or pink, to add some contrast to the main cake, but all 3 cakes ended up being white. Obviously, it's not a huge deal, since I didn't even notice at the wedding, but because we had several conversations about the color, I was just surprised to realize it was wrong.

Other than that minor hiccup, everything was amazing, and I would definitely recommend Nine Cakes for any event!

Not as expected due to small wedding guest list

We couldn’t sample any of the flavors because we were told our wedding guest list was small, so we had to blindly choose a flavor or pay a hefty price for a wedding guest list for 75 guests or more. However, the ginger Pomegranate flavor tasted good. I wouldn’t recommend for a small wedding but for a bigger wedding guest list it’s probably a whole different experience.

Nine Cakes only cares about money and not about their customers. They adhere to their small print to a point that is hurtful.

Due to a pet dying in my arms at home the morning of their cake class, I could not come in. I asked for no refund, to simply be allowed to come to the next class and to please charge me for the small 6" cake that would have been decorated. I literally begged for an exception due to the sad and extenuating circumstances. They refused, and offered their 50% refund that was in their small print, no other possibility, end of conversation. Good luck to you.

Their unwavering stance on their policy, and their condescending and jovial tone in their follow-up emails, when talking about a traumatic experience and my unhappiness felt callous. It felt like form letters after that point.

Betsy and Jess simply cares about money at the end of the day, not about their customers. And that love of, and #1 status of, money makes them cold. I do not want to have these people help celebrate joyful events, and I don’t want to learn from them anymore either. I truly have lost all respect for them after being a fan for quite a long time. I am getting married in earlier 2019 and was excited to meet the team that I was planning to have make our wedding cake, but that will not happen now.

If you happen to place an order, or have tickets to an event, and you break your leg, get into a car accident, or your mom dies, don't expect Nine Cakes to care about anything other than their money.
