Incredible Talent and Performance

For our wedding day, we wanted live music for our cocktail hour - something that felt familiar to our Spanish and Latin American families. Our day was centered around togetherness and romance, and we thought that a guitarist would be a perfect complement to the vision we had. Neil was so wonderful!

Neil helped make our small ceremony even more special! He was extremely accommodating, willing to Zoom us while we lived in another state and able to learn a new song based on our request. The music was absolutely lovely, and we really couldn't imagine anything better for our wedding day.

Perfect accompaniment

Neil was a pleasure to work with and the perfect accompaniment to our wedding! He performed at our wedding ceremony and reception cocktail hour, and we received rave reviews from our guests about both. Neil learned new songs for us and helped me plan a surprise performance for my husband during our ceremony, even bringing a spare guitar I could use. We highly recommend him for any wedding!

One Of The Best Parts Of The Wedding!!

We hired Neil as we wanted a Spanish Guitar vibe at our wedding. He went above and beyond! Working with Neil was a charm! He listened to what the vision was in terms of music and brought that to life ten fold!! He was also willing to learn not just one, but two songs to play during our ceremony. He was one of the best parts of our wedding (other than getting married of course!) and we will definitely look into hiring him again for other events if needed. Thank you for your help Neil! You are a true talent.

Above and beyond and one of a kind

Neil was one of the best parts of our wedding - his professionalism, flexibility, and willingness to ensure we had the experience we wanted were above and beyond. Neil has an incredibly unique skill set in classical Spanish guitar and went out of his way to share his passion and knowledge of this skill set with us. Neil literally opened new avenues of music to us, and we will be grateful for years to come.

Highly Recommend!

In short, Neil is an excellent guitarist and super easy to work with. We highly recommend him to anyone interested in a guitarist for their event.

Neil took things to the next level:
1. He learned a new song (from a video game) to play for the recessional
2. He worked with the groom’s uncle to perform a song together
3. Came to our home to play the guitar for us so we could get a feel for his style
4. Very flexible during the pandemic and never had us worried about anything

Hire this man

I cannot say enough good things about Neil. He was quick to respond, courteous, thoughtful, and stuck with us through our 10 month COVID postponement. And of course, the music was incredible. He arranged multiple songs for our ceremony and helped set the tone for one of the best days of our lives. You could do no better than Neil Dixon Smith.

Amazing music!

Neil was AMAZING! Very responsive and helpful. Our wedding ended up being warmer than anticipated but he was there playing beautiful music with zero signs of worry. He also helped us with any questions we had and was very easy to chat with and get ahold of. Really appreciate all the effort he put into learning our first dance song as well. Thank you Neil!

The perfect cocktail hour vibe

We hired Neil based on a recommendation from another musician. After previewing his music on his website, we were blown away by his talent and overall vibe and booked him for the cocktail hour and ceremony for our small outdoor wedding. Fabulous Guitarist!

What an amazingly talented guitarist. His repertoire seemed boundless! We used him for the wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. Classical pieces were played for the ceremony. During the cocktail hour he played current pop pieces, classical Spanish guitar and Argentinian and Colombian ballads and current Latin pieces. In short, we could not have been more pleased. All our guests commented how much they enjoyed his music! You will not be disappointed if you hire Neil Dixon Smith!

Simply fantastic!

I have hired Neil to play for several private parties. Not fancy parties but casual parties. His Playing is so beautiful and melodic I have had several guests say they felt like they were “in a movie.” His tunes are perfectly entertaining without overwhelming.

Talented and passionate musician!

We saw Neil perform at the Great Wedding Recyclery and got his contact info. After we reached out to him via email, he offered to meet with us and play for us. We had a few musical genres in mind and on the spot, Neil was able to play them for us. We were sold! We hired Neil to perform during our ceremony and cocktail hour. Neil is a true professional and so flexible. He was able to fulfill our requests for specific songs to be played during the processional and then had free reign to "do his thing" during cocktail hour. We got so many compliments from our guests. Having live music, even if just for the ceremony/cocktail hour, really elevated the feel of our wedding. With his reasonable rates, you really can't go wrong hiring Neil. Highly recommended!

Romantic elegance music!

Please hire Neil asap. He did such a fantastic job at our wedding. I received so many compliments on the music during our ceremony and cocktail hour.

In addition, he made it so easy to work with. As a semi-indecisive individual I rely on his professional experience to help guide the music selections.

Wedding Ceremony and Cocktail Hour

We had an outdoor wedding at Redfield estate at the Grove… Neil did the ceremony and cocktail hour music. He could not have done any better! Perfect Vibe

We booked Neil Dixon Smith to perform at our small wedding dinner reception. We had a total of 40 people attend the dinner and wanted an intimate feel and some live background music. I heard Neil perform at another event and knew he was perfect for the occasion. He set the tone for the evening and was a wonderful musical backdrop for the evening. I would love to book him for a future event, should I have the opportunity.

Perfect acoustic guitar and awesome percussion duo!

We couldn't be happier with our choice to use Neil Dixon Smith for ceremony music and him + Janet (his percussionist) for our cocktail hour. Neil came to our house and played for us in the months leading up to our wedding so that we could actually hear the songs he might play. He recommended songs for all aspects of our ceremony and gave us multiple options - including a commitment to learn new music if we wanted - which was so helpful! After meeting with Neil and hearing his sound, we even planned a special spot in our ceremony where Neil just played acoustic guitar for 30 seconds. It was beautiful and gave us a chance to soak in entire moment - including looking out into our audience. We also hired Janet to do percussion with Neil during our cocktail hour and received multiple complements on the 'fun, energetic sound.' Overall, I would highly recommend Neil!

We were very happy with Neil's work playing for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. We planned our wedding in Chicago from LA; Neil was very accommodating and setup a FaceTime session with us so that we could sample his music. What can I say? Neil is the real deal! Our wedding was this past Saturday and we have received soo many compliments. Neil performed at our ceremony and it could not have been more perfect. We can't say enough positive things about Neil. We reached out to Neil looking for someone to play some tunes at the beginning and end of our wedding ceremony. He was incredibly responsive from the get-go and so helpful in working together to figure out what types of music to play. We added a ton of complexity as we asked Neil to coordinate all of the A/V and equipment that would need to be shared with our officiant, friends who played a song during the ceremony, and the band who was DJing for cocktail hour afterwards. Neil went out of his way to provide extra equipment and coordinate with a bunch of different people to make it a seamless experience. If that wasn't complicated enough, there was inclement weather, and Neil brought equipment back and forth between inside and out, as we tried to figure out if we could have our ceremony outside or not. While he was inside, he took it upon himself to play some amazing background music, while our guests enjoyed an early cocktail hour, given that the ceremony was delayed by a missing bus of guests. He did this all himself, and then coordinated moving everything back outside to get everything re-setup when the rain passed, and we could actually begin the ceremony. Amazing experience, we can't say enough for how great of a day Neil made it for us!!! Oh and I almost forgot, NEIL IS AN AMAZING PERFORMER who all of our guests raved about.

Neil was great to work with from the very beginning. He invited us to his place so we can listen to him before booking him, which was really nice in deciding whether or not we want to book him (we immediately said yes after listening to him!). Another unique experience we had with Neil was preparing for our first dance songs. After he suggested to sing for us, he immediately sent us a short clip of example. It was a great suggestion, not only he is a good singer but we also got to listen to the lyrics (which meant a lot for us). He ended up performing for all first dance, father daughter and mother son dances, and it was all awesome! We can't recommend him enough to anyone considering about having a live performer. We are 100% happy that we chose Neil.

Neil was outstanding. He played our May 12, 2018 wedding and was all we could have wanted. The music quality was excellent, he was flexible (accompanied a solo with my mom and brother), responsive, professional and even better in person than what I'd heard on his sound cloud. I was slightly nervous because I'd found him on-line and had never heard him live; suffice to say I'd absolutely recommend him and would hire him again. PS - ours was a Pride wedding, and he made that seamless for us as well. Top notch all around.

Just so happy that we hired Neil. We had an unconventional wedding -- surprising all of our guests who thought they were stopping by to see our house rehab in progress. He played as the guests arrived; the room was festive and full of energy. As the time for the ceremony approached, he segued into a couple of classical pieces that we'd chosen from his website. He plays beautifully, has such a warm presence, and knew just what to do to make our day perfect.

From start to finish, Neil was a first class professional and an amazing musician! We were referred to Neil after another musician we were interested in was already booked. Upon initially reaching out to him, he shocked us by asking if he could set up time to meet us and find out more about us and what our music interests were. We set up a meeting a few weeks later and we knew within 2 minutes of just getting to know him that he would be our choice to play at our wedding ceremony, and this was before he even took his guitar out to play. He played a few samples for us and we were amazed. He is one of the finest classical guitarists I have ever heard but he also has a very wide range of genres and artists that he knows. He even learned a song he had never played before for us. The day of our wedding he was prompt, professional, and wowed our guests with his amazing and heart-felt performance. We had so many of our guests comment specifically on his performance during our ceremony and we are very grateful for that. Neil is an amazing artist and professional, but more importantly, he is an amazing person. He helped make our wedding day very special and he is very highly recommended!

We were very grateful that we were able to connect with Neil. He was recommended to us through other musicians we were looking at who were busy for our wedding day. We were looking for specific songs to be played during those important moments of our ceremony and were hoping to find someone who already knew or was willing to learn them. Thankfully, Neil already knew the majority of our songs and was more than happy to learn our recessional! Skyping with him as our first meeting was extremely helpful, as we were able to get a feel for his personality to help us both understand expectations of the day. Neil was fabulous! We had a small, second wedding ceremony at Schram Chapel. Neil was referred to me by another guitarist I reached out to (who wasn't available) and he was absolutely the best to work with. His website is very comprehensive - but he actually invited us to his home to meet him and hear him play. It was seriously like working with a friend - a really talented friend. He helped guide us through decisions we needed to make and learned a song for our ceremony. We hit the jackpot with Neil.

We hired Neil to play solo guitar for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour at A New Leaf. Neil is fantastic!!! He is incredibly talented, professional, personable, and easy to work with. He learned two new songs for our ceremony and performed them beautifully. He was also very flexible and understanding when our ceremony got a late start due to a medical emergency and he kept our guests entertained with an extended prelude. All of our guests enjoyed his music so much and commented on the “magical” atmosphere he helped create. He was very helpful advising on the musical details for the processional, recessional, and our desire to incorporate a particular song during the ceremony. We had full confidence in his abilities and familiarity with the venue. We didn’t have to worry about a thing! We were really honored and proud to have him be a part of our special day. We highly recommend him!

Neil was an absolute joy to work with. Although we didn't have him play any specific songs to us, he was more than willing to do so. He offered to sit down with us well before the ceremony and go over a playlist, but we really wanted him to just play songs he enjoyed playing. We really appreciated the unique (to the U.S.) type of music he plays—it gave a special, not-everyone-has-this quality to the evening. He got lots of compliments from the guests also!

We had our wedding this past weekend, and we are still on cloud nine! Neil made our ceremony so personalized and beautiful. His talent goes far beyond his amazing guitar playing skills, he was so attentive to our songs we chose, even learning new pieces per our request. The cocktail hour was amazing. Neil and percussionist, Janet played an amazing mix of Latin jazz and our guests were so impressed. It really set a fun mood for the rest of the reception. Best of all, Neil's guitar services were affordable, communication was great, and we would hire him again for other events in the future! We highly recommend!!

To put it simply, Neil is amazing! My husband and I hired him to perform at our small, outdoor ceremony in Lincoln Park. We even asked him if he could learn to play our favorite Coldplay song when I walked down the aisle...he was up for the challenge and nailed it! I was recommended to Neil by another musician to do the music for our outdoor wedding ceremony. I had a very simple vision of what I wanted as I walked down the aisle of tree's and with Neil's expert insight and level of skill I was able to achieve that dream. I had SO many compliments on his style of music, and everyone commented that they loved my choices. He chose a very upbeat tune (that he had never done for a wedding) after the ceremony and I love watching the video and seeing the surprise on the guest's faces. Neil's professionalism was only second to his amazing price which was all inclusive and my wedding was 40 miles from Chicago, so to not be charged mileage was the icing on the cake.

My husband and I agreed our wedding would be a simple, informal affair, but then, before we knew it... Our venue turned into a destination, our guest list had ballooned to 120, and we naively assumed we'd be able to plan it all ourselves. It was a recipe for a stressed-out bride if ever there was one!

Neil not only provided the most sublime music, which will forever be inscribed on my memories of our beautiful ceremony, but he also helped rescue me from the stress of DIY wedding planning. He really listened, offered great suggestions, and put a lot of care into planning the perfect musical accompaniment. In the months prior, he offered several thoughtful ideas on how to make our ceremony more meaningful and enjoyable, and he even helped with last-minute logistics during the rehearsal. Without Neil's wisdom and experience attending and playing at dozens of other weddings, we would have been a lot more stressed!

Above all, Neil is an incredible musician. He designed a beautiful pre-ceremony set of solo guitar music that put everyone in a feel-good, festive mood. We love his unique style, which includes classical Spanish and Latin American music, and which he plays masterfully and passionately. We even gave a copy of his CD, "The Panamericanist," to each of our guests--the perfect thank you gift!

If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind musical experience for your next event, you can't go wrong with Neil. He is truly a special talent and the consummate professional. We were honored by the gift of his music.

After the ceremony itself, Neil’s music was our guests’ favorite part of the wedding! Neil’s high level of skill and diverse repertoire set the perfect mood for our cocktail hour and ceremony. He went far out of his way to learn new material for our event, including contacting several artists whose recordings we liked in order to try to find the perfect arrangement, and was able to put together fantastic arrangements by ear when no sheet music was available, even with short notice. We were also especially impressed with the way that Neil balanced listening carefully to our vision for the event and providing valuable guidance when we weren’t sure what we wanted. Neil is a true artist and professional who comes highly recommended.

We used Neil for our 10/10/15 wedding at Germania place. Once we signed on with him, which was super easy he came over to our condo and played some music for us. We talked about what we envisioned for our ceremony music and our cocktail hour music. He's so laid back and comfortable. He was one of the easiest vendors of our entire wedding process. We talked every now and then over the next year and when it came to the big day everything went perfectly. His acoustic guitar playing was so beautiful for the ceremony and he was awesome at the cocktail hour as well. He doesn't need any direction. He's truly a professional. He even stuck around for the my Dads speech and borrowed Neil's guitar so my Dad could play us a song for a surprise! That's what a nice guy he is. I would highly recommend Neil for your wedding or any special occasion where you are looking for beautiful live music!

My company hired Neil to play at our office open house in 2014. He was very professional, easy to work with, and did a great job the night of the event. We received several compliments from guests. We haven't had an event that called for music since, but we'll call Neil the next time we do.

Neil's music was exactly what we had in mind for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour -- intimate, personalized, elegant and just a little bit unorthodox. He was wonderful to work with, being particularly flexible with various last-minute changes, and while he would have been our first choice at any price point, we thought he provided tremendous value, especially for his superior level of talent and service.

Neil and his music were the perfect addition to the ambiance of our wedding, and without it, we wouldn't have had the magical evening we had hoped for. There was not a dry eye in the house when we danced to "Everlasting Light" , and a lot of that had to do with the heart and soul Neil put in to all that he did. Our wedding night is something we will hold near and dear to our hearts throughout the rest of our lives. We can't thank Neil enough for being such a huge part of it.

Neil is an extremely talented and versatile musician who I was very excited to have perform at my wedding.

He met with us right away when we expressed interest and we got a sense of what working with him would like. Neil was amazing from the time we booked him through the event. He was extremely accommodating and helpful throughout the planning process. My husband is Venezuelan and Neil did a fantastic job of tailoring our music towards both the Americans and Venezuelans present by incorporating a number of folkloric Venezuelan songs into his set list. He learned a new song for our ceremony a couple of weeks prior, no problem. He also brought along a singer, Leanne, to our cocktail hour and she was also FANTASTIC. Neil is a very talented guitarist who brought a wonderful energy to our ceremony and our cocktail hour, and we are so glad we found him!!

Neil Dixon Smith is not only a phenomenal musician, he's a stellar person, which makes his performance and shows that much more meaningful. I'd been to several of his performances before and asked if he would help raise money for a community in Nepal after the 2015 quake - he provided powerful live music while I instructed a studio full of yoga students. The students had an incredible experience, thanks to Neil's ability to cater to the audience while still pouring personal passion into his music.

I have hired Neil on multiple occasions for community and corporate events. He is always very quick to respond and extremely easy to work with and kind! Neil was amazing to work with! I would recommend him for any event I possibly could. I gave him my vision for our wedding day (we were quite the non-conventional bride and groom) and he offered his suggestions and worked with my requests as well. Neil played at our ceremony and also during our cocktail hour. He played "Storybook Love" as I walked down the aisle...it was so beautiful, I started crying before I even saw my husband. He was on time, very talented and even learned a few songs for us. If you are looking for a guitarist, I wouldn't recommend anyone but Neil.

Neil performed the music for our ceremony. We decided to break up the ceremony a bit with a musical interlude, and suggested Noah and the Whale's "5 Years Time" as the piece we wanted to use. Neil condensed the song into about 2 minutes, and it was absolute perfection. The song means a lot to us, and he captured it perfectly. One of our guests, who is a total music nerd, was excited to hear Neil's take on it (and kind of shocked we picked it for our ceremony, but that's a digression).

The rest of the musical performances were uniformly excellent, and I could not recommend him more highly. He even attended our rehearsal to help us run through the ceremony. You will not regret using Neil for your big day.

Neil played our ceremony and cocktail hour music for our 2012 wedding. During the planning process, I had a specific vision for my ceremony music. I wanted something really meaningful to us- but also unique with a Latin flair. I found Neil's website and loved his music. He learned two rock songs to play for the ceremony and played an awesome mix of Spanish Classical and Latin American music during the cocktail hour. Our search for a musician for our wedding started back in 2010. After searching high and low, my sister was recommended Neil Dixon Smith. Our journey to our wedding day was a long and rough one with unexpected date changes. Neil was so understanding and patient of this - never loosing his positive outlook and support for us. I was born and raised in Argentina, so it was important that my wedding contained spanish guitar music. It is not easy to find Guitarristas who actually know how to play Spanish melodies and music well. From the moment we heard Neil play, he blew us away. Our wedding was very non-traditional and we wanted to make sure that our music for the wedding spoke for us. Neil suggested to select a song that he could learn - another reason why he is phenomenal. Neil made our wedding day so special and his music was undeniably amazing. He also played with Alfonso Chacon, and it truly was such a pleasure and honor to be in the presence of these two talented individuals.
