Flexible, adaptable, professional, but most importantly helped us put together our dream wedding
My now-wife and I initially booked the National Press Club back in October of 2019, when we needed a space that would have held 150-200 guests. Flash-forward to a spring and summer of uncertainty in 2020 that many had to deal with, and we were unsure that we would be able to be married at all.
Yet, that space and size turned out to be lucky for us, as we were able to use the National Press Club to have a socially distant, pandemic-restrictions-compliant, wedding and dinner reception for 30. Throughout the process of planning, George and his team were able to roll with all of the changes such a ceremony would entail, from rethinking seating arrangements to designing menus. Most importantly, he and his team were responsive throughout the entire process as we reconfigured the ceremony to meet the new normal: no concern was too small for an email or a phone call, and George was always able to come up with an answer that would help our day go off as smoothly as possible.
On our wedding day, George and his team at the National Press Club did a great job of managing all of the processes: from setting us up with "get ready" rooms, to working with our other vendors, to changing the decor from ceremony to reception, to even helping us manage our "surprise" entrance to the reception. (Of course, the food and drink were delicious as well!).
We received many compliments from our guests throughout the evening and after the wedding about how special of an event we held, and how safe they felt (everyone was wearing maks, completed temperature checks, and complied with the local Covid rules), even in these uncertain times. Much of the credit for that can go to George and his team at the National Press Club: they preserved our dream wedding date with a fabulous wedding. Highly recommended. -

Amazing, Flexible Wedding Venue with a DC Vibe that Your Guests Will Rave About
We got married at the National Press Club in December 2025, and we had an amazing experience. We toured about 8 wedding venues leading up to the event, and when we toured NPC, it just felt different.
First, it was apparent that NPC was a great value compared to other wedding venues in the area. They waived the venue fee if you hit their food and beverage minimum, and they were up front with any additional fees/taxes. Since we were trying to reserve the venue at the end of 2024 but had to wait until 2025 to sign the paperwork due to the holidays, they still allowed us to be grandfathered in to 2024 prices. Additionally, NPC has different ways of charging for the bar - from bar packages to a ticket system to a consumption bar. Knowing our guests, we felt that paying by consumption would work best for us, and we were glad to have that option since not all venues offer it. Since we were having people fly in, we really wanted to have a venue that was in walking distance to hotels, partly so we wouldn't have to worry about paying for transportation to the venue and adding another logistical element. The NPC is nice because the JW Marriott is literally right next door, which makes for a great room block. Finally, NPC and hotels in the area are metro-accessible.
We ended up reserving the ballroom, First Amendment lounge, and Holeman lounge for our wedding as well as side rooms for the groom's party to get ready and for the wedding party to hang out before the wedding. The rooms themselves look so cool - from the First Amendment lounge you can see the White House, and the Holeman lounge is classic and picturesque for a ceremony. The blue carpet is beautiful and adds to the D.C. vibe. In comparison, some other venues we looked at had carpet that detracted from the beauty of the space.
Secondly, NPC is very flexible and responsive. We ended up asking our POC- Renee (who's amazing!)- a ton of questions as we were planning our wedding, and she was always responsive and professional. After we had a lower number of guests RSVP than we expected (120 instead of 150), we asked to move our ceremony from the ballroom to the Holeman Lounge about 3 to 4 weeks before our wedding, and Renee was able to accommodate us. Some other things we asked for were: specialty cocktails (French 75 and Old Fashion) (although the bar can make many different types of drinks for your guests); we modified the Filet Mignon to be served with Mashed Sweet Potatoes; we had three entrees for guests to choose from; we added a Dessert bar and used the NPC's projector; we asked to remove the flags hanging on the wall in the ballroom and the video screens in the lobby area; and we used a mixture of NPC glassware and rentals. NPC handled our rentals being dropped off and picked up without issue - you just have to communicate the times to them so there's not a conflict with another event. NPC also allowed us to drop off our decor the week leading up to the wedding and pick it up the following week, which made things a lot easier for us.
Finally, everything at NPC went so smooth the day of the wedding. The food was absolutely delicious and we had multiple guests rave about the appetizers, the main course, the dessert, and our additional dessert bar. They worked so well with all of our vendors to make everything run perfectly and on time! I had multiple people tell me it was the classiest and most fun wedding they had ever been to and a lot of that was due to NPC.
So many things about NPC made this such a beautiful wedding. Our wedding was one of the best days of my life! There are a lot of wedding venues in DC and it can be a big decision. For us, choosing NPC made our dream wedding a reality!-

Underrated wedding venue in DC with a fantastic team
National Press Club is a wonderful wedding venue. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice to have our wedding reception there! Renee and the whole team were incredible to work with - so responsive, detail-oriented, accommodating, and helpful. We looked at 12 venues in DC and NPC was by far one of the best values plus we loved the flexible space options, that all catering and furniture was in house, and it was a great location especially for out-of-town guests. The food was delicious and high quality was a huge menu of options and they were great about accommodating dietary restrictions too. Highly recommend! -

NPC is perfect wedding venue
Our wedding at the National Press Club was an unforgettable experience, and we owe a huge thanks to George and the entire team for making it truly magical.
To start, the NPC was a beautiful venue. It provided the perfect backdrop for our special day. Its historic charm and elegant atmosphere set the stage for a truly memorable celebration. We recommend seeing it in person to get a sense of how large of a space it is and the great bars set up for cocktail hour. It was a great space for a live band.
Beyond the excellent venue, George went above and beyond to ensure that everything ran smoothly on our wedding day. He was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. He was incredibly easy to communicate with, accommodating, and flexible, ensuring that every aspect of our wedding was exactly as we envisioned. From coordinating with the band for setup and receiving vendors on the day of the wedding to attending to our needs throughout the night, he was attentive to details, proactive, and always one step ahead.
For example, we walked through the venue a few weeks before the wedding and talked about what we wanted with George. Every little detail we noted was taken into account and executed perfectly by the NPC and George. George's extensive experience in weddings was evident in the invaluable advice he provided. From menu selections to timing details, his insights were incredibly helpful in ensuring that our day unfolded seamlessly. Another example of George’s attention, when we arrived at the venue after the ceremony and photos, George brought us cold drinks and warm appetizers, just what we needed to refuel before we joined the reception!
The food and drinks at the NPC were also excellent. The steak was perfectly cooked. The hit was the vegetarian acorn squash entree, which George recommended to us! The endive salad and a dessert from a local bakery were also hits. Everyone raved about the food and cocktail hour appetizers. We appreciated the opportunity to taste multiple menu options ahead of time, allowing us to customize our menu to perfection.
Finally, the National Press Club team was incredibly flexible when it came to dropping off and picking up items for the wedding. They also graciously allowed us to take some early photos, adding to the convenience and ease of our day. Throughout the night, everyone at the National Press Club was warm, welcoming, and eager to assist in any way they could. Their kindness and professionalism did not go unnoticed and added to the overall exceptional experience.
To conclude, we highly recommend the NPC for your wedding. They are incredibly accommodating, pleasant, and helpful to go along with delicious food and a beautiful venue.

Wonderful venue for a very DC wedding
After touring the National Press Club we immediately sent an email to book. This unique venue was the perfect fit for our DC wedding! George was an excellent resource from start to finish, explaining the Press Club's offerings, coordinating with other vendors, and making sure that we had everything that we needed to have an amazing day. And the food! Unlike so many lackluster venues, the food at the National Press Club was delicious. -

A night no one will forget and beyond our wildest dreams
Best kept secret in Washington DC! This was the best decision we ever made and it is insane this famous venue is accessible at this price point. Weddings have become outrageously expensive with a million moving parts and when we found the press club we couldn’t figure out the catch. We were able to accommodate almost 200 guests in downtown Washington DC with in house catering for better pricing than standard hotels and venues in Virginia or Maryland. Our guests were all coming from the west coast and some for the first time to dc so to bring them into a historic venue with views of the White House and reception in the same room of the correspondence dinner made it an unforgettable venue. George is absolutely fantastic and the definition of a true professional who loves his work. He helped us create our dream wedding and was available to assist us with any question or request. The food is absolutely to die for and the chef is incredible. This is restaurant quality food with a huge selection of options, perfectly cooked beef, and incredible house wines; our guests haven’t stopped raving about it. I have been told by so many of the guests that this is one of the coolest most memorable weddings they have been to. Thank you to George and the press club for the most unforgettable magical wedding. -

Worth the Wait - Reschedule 2020 wedding!
Long story short - our wedding was worth the wait! My husband and I started our wedding planning process in 2019. We were one of the couples who did a micro wedding in 2020 (at a different location) and rescheduled our big party twice - once in 2021 and finally had the chance to have our party in 2022. We wanted our wedding to be safe and DC to be open by the time we had our big wedding. NPC is a great one stop shop. They provide the rentals (tables, chairs, stage, dance floor, etc), catering, alcohol, and the space has plenty of rooms! We picked out the food in March 2020 and the food this past weekend was still perfect over 2 years later! George Arfken is who we worked with for years and he is very responsive, straight forward, and professional via email. We can’t recommend the venue enough, especially for busy professionals like my husband and myself! Our family and friends had the best time this past weekend and we appreciate the venue being so flexible with all our reschedules. -

Historical and Unique DC Wedding Venue
Where do we even begin! The venue made our wedding. My husband found this place on wedding wire and we fell in love with the minute we walked in. It's such a historic, unique place to have a wedding, and the pricing is not that much different than doing it at a hotel. Not only that, the food is incredible, and working with Cara and Michelle who are the event planners for the venue were the icing on the cake. They handled everything for the day of coordination. They were also so accommodating when we had to move our original 2020 date due to COVID. We are so happy with the way everything turned out and we can't recommend this place enough! -

Winter Wedding!
National Press Club is a perfect DC wedding venue! It has everything you want amazing venue, food, and staff! It gives off a classic "old school" DC vibe. We loved that everything could be done in one spot and that there was plenty of room to get ready before hand. Since our wedding was in December the Press Club is already decorated with poinsettias everywhere and Christmas tree which brought a whole other beautiful vibe to the venue. The food is outstanding- best wedding food I have ever had! So amazing that my husband and I go back every year for our anniversary to the restaurant and have a lovely meal (same chef)! If you are looking to have a classic, unique, and regal feel of a wedding the Press Club is the spot in DC! -

Great staff at NPC, a hidden gem in Washington event space
George Arfken and the rest of the staff at the National Press Club were really great to work with -- experienced, responsive, knowledgeable, creative....all the good things we were looking for in the wedding experience for our 200+ guests. The NPC venue is a somewhat hidden gem in the downtown event space market; it's steeped in history and has a really cool vibe. Last but not least, a wedding at the NPC offers really great bang for the buck. -

Amazing care and responsiveness
First, let me just say that we have not yet had our ceremony. Our ceremony was originally scheduled for April 4th of this year. We had an amazing tasting session at the beginning of March and couldn’t wait for the amazing ceremony Cara Lanza and her team had in store for us on our special day. But, of course, COVID-19 had other plans for us and we had to postpone everything just a 3 weeks out. Cara and her team have been superb in the interim as well. We have twice more postponed our date (now to 2022 to be on the safe side) and Cara has been completely understanding and always responsive to our needs and desires to adjust our wedding date in this ever-fluid situation. We simply couldn’t ask for a better wedding site coordinator to work with. She has been amazing. Thanks! -

Perfect historical DC venue
We choose the Press Club for our wedding reception and cannot say enough about how amazing it was. George is the most incredible wedding planner. He helped us through every step of the planning process and I could not imagine getting through the day without him. The Press Club was beautiful and the staff is very kind. The guests ranted and raved about the delicious food and everyone enjoyed the venues historic setting. The national Press Club and George made our wedding day absolutely perfect. -

Your wedding will NOT be cookie-cutter!
You want your wedding to be special...and I cannot imagine a more flexible venue that would offer a more customized experience than NPC! Here are some of the reasons I'm so glad that I chose NPC:
Venue coordinator & staff: Cara, our event coordinator, was responsive, patient, utterly competent, and has a wonderful personality (interacts with you as a person, not just a client). Servers and bar tenders were great, and actually seemed happy to be there (like it's a wedding!) They will make sure your day is perfect.
Space: Not a boring ballroom...a place with history. We loved that we were able to use 3 separate rooms (including one with a fireplace) so that our guests didn't feel trapped. We had a band, and the acoustics in the main ballroom were great.
Food/Drink: It felt like "if you can dream it, they can make it". We served Peking duck and risotto at chef stations, and a variety of off-menu Indian dishes (my background) at the reception. We suggested adjustments to some of the Indian dishes at the tasting, and were nervous about how the final product would turn out, but chef Susan knocked it out of the park the day-of! I really wish I could eat that food regularly. Guests raved about all of the dishes offered, and several said it was the best wedding food they had ever eaten! We had a full bar with liquor; we loved the wine selections, and NPC was very accommodating with the beer menu.
Bottom line, NPC will make your event unique and unforgettable. Our guest have not stopped complimenting us for months! -

Best value for a downtown DC wedding!
Holding our wedding reception at the National Press Club was the best decision we could have made! The Press Club is historic, uniquely DC, and the perfect place for both our out-of-town and local guests to enjoy. Cara was a dream to work with and I can't say enough fabulous things about her and her team. The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely delicious which made it a wonderful evening for everyone! From start to finish, Cara was so responsive, helpful, and made the whole planning process a breeze. I researched many venues before deciding on the Press Club. They offered the most reasonable prices for a downtown DC venue and truly provided the most value for the money spent. Your guests will never attend a wedding at a venue quite like the Press Club which will make it a memorable day for all. I wouldn't have changed one thing! -

Best Vendor of Our Wedding - Makes Things Happen
National Press Club is one of our favorite vendors for our wedding. Their venue is historic, classic and romantic and was located at the heart of the Washington DC - 2 blocks away from the white house! Their in-house kitchen 'the fourth estate restaurant' was awesome, the hors d'oeuvres, crab cakes and desserts are top notch and the price was reasonable. If you want the guests to enjoy a fresh out of the oven meal on your wedding day, then the Press Club is the place for you.
The event manager Cara was amazing, she went above and beyond of her duties and made our wedding day flawless and memorable. She is very professional and knowledgeable about the venue and the kitchen, she also took the initiative in accommodating our requests. I did not hire a wedding planner and decided to do it by myself - with Cara's help, the entire process was not too painful for me because I could just talk to her about all my questions of the venue, the food and the cake! It felt like 3-vendors-in-1.
The venue staff was friendly too, David was a great help setting up the ceremony/reception room the night before. The entire experience was amazing, we are so glad that we chose the National Press Club and highly recommend it to everyone! -

Uniquely Washingto
The National Press Club was a fantastic choice for our wedding. We were aiming for a central location, unique experience, and easy logistics. It nailed all three. From our first interactions with Cara, she was there to answer any questions and provide useful suggestions. The food was amazing (our guests keep talking about crab cakes) and the planning was incredibly easy. It's nice that they have all the catering items in-house already. The whole team was flexible and accommodating, and Cara's extra coordination efforts to make all of our wedding party comfortable and organized was helpful. The venue itself is uniquely Washington with lots of available photo shots (including easy access to Pennsylvania Ave). We highly recommend having a look at the Press Club. -

NPC was the PERFECT venue for our all-day, fusion Christian-Hindu wedding and I cannot say enough good things about our experience working with them and their events manager, Michelle Licht. Michelle and her team helped us plan two ceremonies, an afternoon tea, cocktail hour, and a reception, and didn't bat an eye at our unusual requests for open flames during our Hindu ceremony, use of their lobby for a traditional Indian welcoming ceremony, or our request for multiple private rooms to use as changing areas between events. She also met with us about 8-10 times for walk-throughs over the course of 1.5 years to help us plan our day. We were lucky to find a venue that allowed us to use three distinct gathering spaces--two lounges and a ballroom--so our guests didn't feel "trapped" all day, and that waived the room rental fee after meeting a minimum for catering. NPC's furnishings are really beautiful and the DC atmosphere shines through in the signed photos of politicians and celebrities on the walls and the antique newspaper print artifacts. Executive Chef Susan Delbert and her team patiently worked with us to craft an absolutely delicious, custom Indian menu that included vegetarian, meat, and dessert dishes (seriously--where else have you heard of a non-Indian caterer being willing to make Indian sweets?) specific to the region of India where my husband's family is from, and very graciously hosted us for multiple tastings, speaking with us about the specific recipes used and the sourcing of the ingredients. The Western-style dishes were also superb, and all food was BEAUTIFULLY served on platters artfully arranged on the buffets--NOT in predictable chafing dishes where the artistry of the food is completely lost. Our guests were especially wowed by the giant wheel of parmesan cheese the buffet-side chefs used to finish preparing guests' custom risotto orders. NPC is a beautiful and unique venue managed by absolute pros and is a total gem of a wedding venue. -

I cannot say enough amazing things about The National Press Club and Cara. If you are thinking of getting married here- do it!! Make sure you ask for Cara Lanza- she is the absolute best. She is super response to e-mails, and so easy to work with. She exceeded all of my husband and my expectations. She was very helpful and realistic in all of her suggestions- such a professional.
My husband and I were looking for a DC venue that was not a hotel, and The National Press Club was the perfect spot for our November wedding. The venue itself is so beautiful and filled with history, it was a great place for our out of town guests to really feel like they were in DC.
The various rooms were all gorgeous and our guests really enjoyed getting to stand by the podium, step and repeat, flags, photos, and newspaper plaques. The food was amazing- way better than the "standard wedding food". Service was great- so many servers all around making sure my husband and I, and our guests were comfortable throughout the night (and well fed)!
I am so happy we found The National Press Club and Cara. They truly made our wedding the best night of our lives!! -

We held our wedding at the press club on July 15th and can't say enough good things about the venue, food, and especially efforts of event manager Michelle Licht. The venue itself is quintessential DC, with an array of photos and plaques that convey the history and story of the city. Our out of town guests in particular loved this aspect of the space, and it was great to see them interacting with the venue. In terms of the food, we had numerous guests compliment us on the quality, and we found the food at the reception just as delicious as during the delightful and thorough tasting when we made our selections. Finally, we don't have enough words to praise events manager Michelle Licht who went above and beyond to ensure our event went off without a hitch. From coordinating with all our vendors, to adjusting to a day of request for a small side room for my wife and I to have a brief respite before the reception, she ensured that the day was perfect. The press club is a hidden gem of a wedding venue and we'd encourage anyone to hold their reception there. -

My daughter's wedding reception at The National Press Club was just wonderful! Our entire event flowed so smoothly and the entire staff was very attentive to detail, professional, and flexible with dietary changes. The food was delicious and we received so many compliments from our guests on not only the food but also how pleasant and helpful everyone was. Prior to the event Cara, our manager was the best, always available, accommodating, and a calm presence. I can't think of a better venue for such a joyous occasion! -

Absolutely, positively GO FOR IT if you're considering the Press Club for your downtown wedding. I'd rate them ten stars if I could. The food was incredible - where else have you ever heard (almost all) the guests rave about grilled chicken breast at a wedding? The setting is very elegant and very DC, with all the press photos and wood paneling. The pricing was beyond reasonable for the location and amenities. But the real star of the show is Cara Lanza, who took such a huge load off this bride's mind with her incredible work ethic and expertise. She is attentive, communicative, proactive, and could probably pull off flawless weddings in her sleep. I am so happy with how everything worked out at our wedding, but I think the single best decision we made was the Press Club. It just made so many other things go smoothly, without any added stress on our part. We love you Cara! :) Matt and Charlene, July 30
Specifics: We ended up at about 150 guests (including 5 kids) and 10 vendor meals. Open bar for 4 hours, plus wine only during dinner. -

When planning your daughter's wedding, you dream that the reception will be beautiful, with professional and attentive service, delicious food, fun, unique. worry-free and memorable. The National Press Club was all of that and more; a perfect 10 and surpassed our high expectations.
In Cara Lanza's capable hands, from our first meeting to wedding day logistics, all aspects from ceremony, to wedding reception flow and orchestration were expertly executed.
We had 200 guests but the event felt comfortable and roomy, yet intimate at the same time. The cocktail hour space was particularly roomy and no guest had to elbow their way to the bar.
The food was terrific, the wait staff friendly and professional. To echo our guests comments, this was the best wedding they had ever been to. If there were hiccups behind the scene, no one (including me) ever knew about them.
I recommend the National Press Club without reservation as a wedding venue. Thank you for making our special day perfect. We would not have changed a thing!

We LOVED our wedding at the Press Club. It is a wonderful venue that is very unique and in a great location with beautiful and historic surroundings. Cara was very helpful and made sure that we got exactly what we wanted and the porters and staff were very friendly and professional. Plus the food was terrific, we received a ton of compliments on how tasty it was. Overall, it was the perfect spot for our wedding. -

WOW, where do I even start. A 5 out of 5 doesn't even begin to touch on how wonderful this location is. If you want the quintessential DC experience you must use the National Press Club. And you can't beat the prices. This is one of the few if not the only place in DC where they will waive the room rental fees if you meet a certain food and beverage minimum. Why waste your money at all the other DC places for just a room when you can get the best bang for your buck here AND have an amazing reception. From the first moment of contacting Patty Powers she couldn't have been more helpful, informative and gracious. She is the most responsive vendor I have ever worked with, every time I emailed her I had a response within 5 minutes and she was always available by phone. Every walk thru she gave great suggestions and insight on things that worked at previous events. Her estimates for pricing were spot on!! She was phenomenal and I am actually kind of sad that my wedding is over because that means I don't get to work with her anymore. The food tasting was delicious and the Chefs were so nice and honest about what they were making and where it was sourced from. On the day of my wedding reception everything was perfect and even blew my high expectations out of the water. My guests were raving about how attentive the staff all were and how scrumptious the food was. I could keep on rambling here about how beyond WONDERFUL this whole location is but I hope you are getting the point. Don't waste a second of your time looking at other places. book here and you won't be sorry!!! -

Cara and her entire team were amazing. We had some issues with a previous venue we booked and Cara was so helpful in making some huge, last minute changes to our entire wedding. We really couldn't have pulled this off without the Press Club team. From day-of coordination to communicating with our vendors, the team was prompt and responsive. They made our wedding day a truly special day! -

We had our wedding here about a month ago and we could not have asked for a better DC venue! We planned our wedding from out of state and George Arfken, the event coordinator for the Press Club, made the process really easy. We were not able to see the venue in person until a few days before the wedding. When we met with George for a walk-through and lunch at the Press Club restaurant, he had already been in contact with all of our vendors to confirm set-up times and discuss logistics. I did not have a wedding planner, but with George's help I really didn't feel like I needed one. He made sure that everything went smoothly on the day-of.
The venue itself is such a cool space with lots of history. It's also in a beautiful part of downtown DC, which was great because all of our guests were from out-of-town. We also liked that there was a very nice JW Marriott next-door to the Press Club. We had our wedding-block at the Marriott, so it was very easy for guests to get to and from the wedding.
I would highly recommend the National Press Club as the wedding venue! Compared to other venues that we looked at the price was fairly reasonable. We are still getting compliments on the wedding venue and the food. -

Cinderella was here! I worked in the National Press Building for years and was no stranger to the National Press Club. Yet the rooms we rented (The First Amendment Room connected to the Holeman Lounge by a large bar) went from press conference-style to elegant reception in a snap. For anyone planning an event that involves a live band, I heartily recommend the arrangement we opted for. Our 7-piece band (The Fabulettes, who were, well... fabulous) was just pleasant background for the folks who chatted in the First Amendment. The Holeman Lounge (which has a dance floor AND a fireplace -- what other venue can claim that?!), is perfect for dancing. We had 100 guests, and the combined space was the right size. Lots of people in both, seats for all. We had the food (heavy h'os) in the First Amendment and set up dessert and coffee in an alcove off the First Amendment. The staff is in credibly accommodating, which is important if you are trying to maintain your regular work schedule in the weeks leading up to a big reception. They worked with the band to ensure ease of access to the building and even handled ordering a big flower arrangement for the food tables when I just couldn't get to that part. (What bride says that? ME!!) Elegant space+professional staff+fun guests+good food+great band=A night to remember always. -

My wife and I hosted a Rehearsal Dinner for 120 people for our son's wedding here; cocktails in the First Amendment Room and Dinner in the Holeman Lounge. The event was FANTASTIC start to finish. We worked with Cara to plan the event; she is an absolute professional in every way. Every last detail is carefully considered and worked out. The food was outstanding; like a five star restaurant. Service was impeccable. The atmosphere was perfect. I highly recommend the National Press Club. -

We're both young journalists who live and work in the Washington area, so the National Press Club was a wonderful and fitting venue for our wedding reception.
First, there's the venue itself. The Press Club's got a lot of great history to it, and it showcases that history in a way that really makes you wish sometimes that those walls could talk. All of the times I've brought guests there from out of town, they've spent plenty of time looking around at the assortment of photos and other journalism artifacts in the club.
The planning process went very smoothly, especially for a couple without a wedding planner or coordinator. Patty Powers was a joy to work with; whenever we had questions of any sort, she had a prompt and thoughtful answer or list of suggestions for us. She was especially helpful guiding us through the process of putting together a menu with the variety of options at the Press Club.
On that note, the food was fantastic; several of our guests told us it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding reception. We went with different food stations around the edge of the ballroom, and all of it was delicious and presented beautifully. (The risotto station in particular drew a lot of interest.) Several of our family members and friends have different dietary restrictions, and the club handled all of those with ease.
Finally, there's the service the evening of the reception. Patty was there to greet us and our families when we arrived, and she always made sure we were comfortable. She and the servers and bartenders went above and beyond several times throughout the evening, and we definitely appreciated it.
All in all, the reception and the planning leading up to it went extremely well, and we're very glad to have picked the Press Club for it! -

More than just a venue, a true service. Our host, George Arfken, couldn't have been more responsive and helpful. He advised us on how best to organize the space, and gave us tips on how to track down the right vendors. And so professional! When an invited guest brought along an unexpected friend, George quietly took care of it without missing a beat! The in-house catering was spectacular. The chef herself invited us to an evening for tasting a variety of appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and it was hard to choose -- they were all wonderful. Yes, we checked out several other venues, but the Press Club offered far and away the best value in a wonderful location in the heart of Washington DC. -

Contacted Cara Lanza in early Feb about April 20 wedding and she couldn't have been more helpful. She worked with me every step of the way right up to the last minute. We found the prices much more reasonable than any other venue in Washington DC on Wedding Wire. Ours was a small wedding, just 14 of us so we had the ceremony and lunch in the same room. The service and food were OUTSTANDING! We took a chance and served the Roasted Duck and everyone was still raving about it the next morning at breakfast. It's somewhat daunting to plan a wedding in DC from Dallas TX, not seeing the venue or tasting the food, but thanks to Cara and the NPC everything went smoothly and seamlessly. By the way, Cara and NPC allowed us to bring in our own flowers, so we ordered them from Whole Foods and they were magnificent and very reasonable. -

We held our son and daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner at the National Press Club in March and enthusiastically recommend it as a venue. What better place to be in Washington D.C. than to overlook the White House during this exciting event in our lives!
The food was delicious (everyone raved about the risotto station and the desserts, of course). We especially valued the excellent service that the staff provided. All were attentive to our every question and request, and served in a non-intrusive manner that was most pleasant.
It is truly a magical venue for any event. -

I cannot say enough about the positive experience we had at the National Press Club. We were looking for a unique to DC venue that wasn't a hotel and that could accommodate a larger wedding (200+) -- it was very important to us to get married in DC itself -- and this is a hidden gem. We worked with Michelle who was wonderful -- literally everything we asked for she delivered on. At our tasting/planning meeting, she took copious notes (right down to napkin placement and favors on the table, etc), and provided them to us the next business day for review. She went above and beyond on the wedding day, personally arranging our escort cards, placing favors, etc., etc. The pricing was very straightforward -- no hidden surprises on the day of, and the invoices were provided with lots of time to review. We had such a great experience here! -

This is truly a hidden gem. So many people had said that they had always heard of, but never been inside the Press Club. It is so close to everything (as it is downtown) and so calming and warm.
We had the Holeman Lounge for the Cocktail Hour and the Ballroom for the Ceremony and Reception. It was nice that all events were within 5 feet of each other. Everything was perfect and many people said that it was the best food they had ever had - not just at a wedding.
Michelle who we worked with was great. She was able to answer all of our questions and answered calls and emails very fast. She was very flexible with everything we asked for or about and made our wedding truly unique to us.
If I had to do it again (I hope I never have to) I would totally do it at the Press Club. Everyone was so friendly and professional. I did not have to worry about a thing during the day. It was beyond our and our guests expectations.
Please use them. They are by far the best deal in the city. You are not charged for dishes, chairs, napkins, etc. like you are at other locations. It is all included. Such a big selling point. -

My husband and I decided to have a very small wedding (about 40 people) and we were concerned that we'd either be swallowed up by the many giant venues in DC, and/or receive sub-par service because we wouldn't be spending a lot of money. However, when we visited the National Press Club, we knew right away that it would be the perfect venue to celebrate this very important day, and wine and dine our small party of family and friends.
The NPC has several different rooms for parties of varying sizes, each one with the classic feel of a traditional DC wedding with beautiful views. The planning staff at the NPC were a dream to work with. Cara Lanza and George Arfkin are true professionals who took care to ensure that our event would be perfect - no request was too big! Planning the event was seamless, and Cara and George made us feel very comfortable and welcome. We never once doubted that we were in great hands.
When we arrived at the event, everything was exactly how we had envisioned it. There was clearly an entire web of communication going on behind the scenes - between the NPC and the linen company, DJ, etc. - so we didn't have to worry about a thing. The staff was so friendly and welcoming - even the bartender, Felix, wrote us a lovely note on a napkin wishing us the best in our new life together.
Of course, the views of the monuments, White House, the streets of DC were breath-taking. The ambiance was warm and classic, and the food was exceptional. Many of our guests commented that it was the best food they ever had at a wedding. We still visit the Fourth Estate restaurant to get a taste of our wedding reception and say hello to the staff members that still recognize us (Stephanie knows her stuff!).
I would highly recommend this venue to couples looking for a traditional District of Columbia wedding. You will not be disappointed with the customer service, quality of food, ambiance of the venue, or overall ease of planning with their excellent staff. The National Press Club made us feel so special, and we wouldn't have changed a thing. -

My husband and I were originally set to be married at the City Club of Washington in Franklin Square. Four months before our wedding, the City Club called to notify us that they were unable to renew the lease on their building, and as such, we would need to find a new venue. Needless to say, we completely panicked because this meant starting our whole process over again.
Luckily, we found the Press Club. And the Press Club was perfect. I called and spoke with Michelle who let me know that (somehow) our date was available and that we would be able to make everything work within our budget (which at this point was a lot more strict since we had already booked all of our other vendors). I'm only sad that we hadn't found this place when we first started our search back in January for a venue.
Michelle and the Press Club were amazing to work with. They made everything so easy...it felt like any question or request that I had, the answer was always "yes, we can figure out how to do that."
We had our ceremony in the Holeman Lounge, the cocktail hour in the First Amendment Lounge, and the reception in the Ballroom. The Press Club really is a super cool and unique "DC"ish venue which was perfect for us since so many of our guests were from out of town. You look outside the window and you can see the Washington Monument. There are pictures lining the walls of the hallways of all of the famous people that have been there.
The food was fantastic. The staff was amazing. It was overall the best experience that I could have asked for.

I had my wedding ceremony and reception in the Holeman Lounge, with my Cocktail Hour being held in the adjacent First Amendment Lounge. My event coordinator at the Press Club was Patty Powers, and she was great to work with. Patty definitely proved on my wedding day that she's a true professional at coordinating weddings. The NPC (on the 13th floor) is a superb location--I really enjoyed having a view from the First Amendment Lounge during my cocktail hour. I received nothing but praises from my guests regarding my choice of the wedding venue and the food served during my reception.
The NPC is definitely an A+ in my book. I don't know why anybody would not want to have there wedding ceremony/ reception here! -

The National Press Club is a true hidden gem in the heart of downtown. My husband and I feel so fortunate to have had our ceremony and reception at the Press Club and would highly recommend it as the perfect venue for a wedding and reception. We had a somewhat difficult challenge looking for a reasonably priced venue that would allow us to hold both a ceremony and reception for 250 guests. Thank goodness we thought of the Press Club.
Patty Powers was an absolute pleasure to work with and was so easy to talk to. She answered our every question and always got back to us quickly. With the Press Club being such an historic and prestigious venue, we could never have anticipated the personal and relaxed touch with which the staff handled our plans. Four months later, our guests are still raving about the venue and especially the food, many claiming that they enjoyed the best meal they had ever been served at a wedding. Speaking of service, the service at the Press Club is beyond compare, which is not surprising considering they can count Presidents, kings, and various dignitaries and celebrities among their guests.
The National Press Club is the best venue in the DC area hands down. We'd do it all over again in a heartbeat! -

We and our guests loved The National Press Club for our wedding reception. It was a perfect location for guests, who ranged from four months to 93 years old. Because of the exhibits outside the room, older guests were able to enjoy the cocktail hour both inside the Holeman Lounge and strolling through the exhibits, and our younger guests had "moving around" space to expend their energy.
We worked with Cara--who was fantastic--and made planning our event literally stress free. She provided flexibility, helpful hints, and guidance where needed. We also were pleased that pretty much everything could be selected in-house, which made dealing with multiple vendors for all the details not necessary--a huge bonus because we didn't have a wedding coordinator/planner assisting us, and we were on a budget.
A number of our guests commented on how distinguished and beautiful the space was, and another guest (who attends literally hundreds of galas and special events a year) told us that the hors d'ouevres were the best he'd ever had.
If you are looking for a great location, excellent service, wonderful food, and a successful event, The National Press Club should be at the top of your list. -

We were extremely pleased with the National Press Club. The venue is beautiful, our guests enjoyed the location, and everyone was impressed with how perfect the day was. As veteran wedding goers, it was the best food we've had at a wedding (and most restaurants) and dinner was for 170 people, not a small feat! The Press Club is so experienced in planning detailed, top-notch events, that we had 100% confidence in them and every detail that we asked for (and even some we didn't know to ask for) was handled perfectly. We dealt with George in catering, who had great advice on how to schedule the reception, how much and what to serve, and anticipated anything that might come up that day. George's efforts and the care and concern he expressed not only in planning this event but on the day of the wedding were amazing! They turned the room over quickly between our ceremony and reception and the staff was professional and courteous. George was great at coordinating with all of our other vendors on set up and scheduling, without any additional involvment from us. We were pleasantly surprised when we received our final bill as it was very reasonable given the quality of the food, service, and location. -

The National Press Club (NPC) far exceeded my expectations as a wedding venue. I worked with Michelle Licht, Assistant Catering Director, on the booking and planning and she was absolutely wonderful.
When we looked for a location for the wedding we saw a lot of hotels and historical homes in DC that were nice, but not a great value and involved a lot of cost just to rent the space. NPC impressed us at the very beginning for many reasons. The venue itself is unique, with images of historic news headlines along the walls. The event rooms also have a wonderful elegant and stately look to them.
The catering is done on site, with the chef from the on-site restaurant working with you on the menu. There is a basic menu you can work from (they have a fall/winter menu and a spring/summer menu) but they are also willing to work with you on specific items that you may want. We had requested a vegetarian dinner option (in addition to chicken) and the chef created some truly amazing choices. We ended up with a butternut squash torte that was divine! All of the food was wonderful - absolutely no one went home hungry - we had people commenting that this was the first time they had ever eaten all of the food at a wedding.
They also have very affordable options for the bar - including cash bars or open bars. As well as options for passing wine at the tables during dinner.
For the price - you can't beat it. You don't pay for bringing in tables and chairs like you do at many other places. And the gratutity for the wait staff and the bartenders is all included in the bill, so you don't have to worry about needing to bring money on your wedding day.
Michelle was a dream to work with and I really appreciated that I was working with the same person during the entire planning experience. She has a wealth of experience and knowledge that helped us tremendously during the planning. She also acted as our day of coordinator.
We had many people say we were the calmest couple they had ever seen get married. To be honest, it was the fact that we had wonderful people like Michelle to work with that allowed us to be so calm. The NPC provided us and our guests with a truly memorable experience. -

I left this review last as the National Press Club (NPC) is a crown jewel in DC. My husband and I feel so fortunate to have had our at the NPC and would highly recommend it as the perfect venue for a wedding and reception. It was important to us to have our reception at a DC museum-type place and maybe a place that out-of-towners--and certainly not DCers would ever think of. The Press Club is so experienced in planning detailed, top-notch events, that we--my now husband, my parents and I--had 100% confidence in them creating a perfect event. We dealt with George Arfkin in catering, who had great advice on how to schedule the reception, the amount of food needed (we ended up ordering more than he thought necessary for the cocktail reception and all the food was still eaten) and anticipated anything that might come up that day. George is a constant professional in all he does. The care he takes in even the most small tasks are just perfection. We can't say enough about the food at the Press Club--go to their restaurant called Fourth Estate--and you will see why we choose them. We were blown away by the end cost of the event. We expected a much higher cost for all that went into event. Thank you George for making the day perfect! -

The National Press Club was a perfect spot for our wedding reception! Working with Michelle and Cara was a dream--both were exceptionally professional and very responsive. They did a wonderful job coordinating with all of our vendors so that everything went off without a hitch :)
The food was overwhelmingly good--our lobster and orzo starter was a huge hit with our guests! The only complaint of the evening was that the steak was a little overdone, but very tasty anyways. The Press Club went out of there way to customize our dessert (a chocolate raspberry mousse) and serve it in martini glasses per our request.
I would 100% recommend the Press Club for a special event! -

We had a fantastic wedding (180 guests) at the National Press Club, and terrific planning help from Cara Lanza. With venue, you have full access to three wonderful & adjacent rooms, including the ballroom. We did pre-ceremony reception in First Amendment Lounge, ceremony in Holeman Lounge, and dining&dancing in the ballroom. A night to remember. -

I am so glad we found Cara (the wedding coordinator at NPC) and the National Press Club for our wedding reception! We had an amazing experience (best day of our lives) and we could not have done it without Cara. NPC's ballroom is very nice, perfect for a reception of 100 - 200 guests, and interesting for guests who are from out of town! The location is amazing - It is a block from the White House, and you can see it from NPC's window. The food was satisfactory, the booze options are great, the house wine is pretty good, and NPC really went above and beyond (even customizing a cake and cupcakes for us!) to make our reception special. The best part - it's a steal! By far the cheapest venue we looked at in downtown DC. It's a hidden gem for sure, and I would definitely recommend it! -

I wanted to get married somewhere other than a hotel. I looked at a lot of historic venues around DC but few could hold the 250 guests I was expecting. We finally found the National Press Club. Not only is it historic, and perfectly located in walking distance to all of the sites, but the food is AMAZING and the staff is just incredible. Michelle Licht was my contact and working with her was a breeze. Not only did my guests enjoy the location and the view, but EVERYONE was talking about how delicious the food was. That never happens at a wedding! They even were able to accommodate all the food allergies and crazy LA eating requests. It was a perfect venue -

Cara and the National Press Club were amazing to work with. They were extremely flexible and everything went off without a hitch! The food was very delicious, and although the food didn't look as gorgeous as it did during the tasting, it still tasted great. We got many nice compliments on the day, and it all came together with out much stress! -

We used this location for our reception, the staff is very nice and very prompt at taking care of the event. I did find that they were a little suspicious of us at first, but once we put a check down for the space they were very helpful. In fact Cara helped me a lot when our wedding planners had to be let go from the project 6 weeks away.
The location is great and really close to lots of hotels. It is expensive, but very prestigious and a great value for the money. The package of food and wine is far better than what you would get at a big hotel like the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons. THEIR FOOD IS FABULOUS! And they have a great selection of wines and views of the city. -

We needed a downtown reception venue that could accommodate about 200 people AND have the same date open as our church...let me tell you the pickings were slim. The National Press Club was not what I was imaging my wedding venue to look like - I wanted something very 'Pinterest/Instagram' looking (mostly white/windows with indoor/outdoor space and views) but given space constraints that wasn't going to happen. Despite my initial reservations the NPC ended up being THE PERFECT venue that our guests still rave about. We worked with George Afken, who was responsive and accommodating. Our guests raved about the food (impressed the dishes were warm), historic space, and proximity to the church and hotel. George let us drop off decor items the weekend before the wedding which was a big help. The only thing that left a 'meh' taste in my mouth was that the NPC underwent renovations 3 weeks before our wedding. In the end everything worked out marvelously and if you've got a large wedding definitely check out NPC. -
