Wonderful wedding!
My husband and I were married at Moonlight Studios this past December, and we had an excellent experience working with them! The event coordinator was responsive and helpful, and they made the whole process smooth and easy. Our guests were commenting the whole night on what a cool space it was for a wedding. It was extremely spacious without feeling empty or overwhelming, and our vendors had an easy time working in the space. -

Izabela was phenomenal to work with! The venue was clean, accessible, and so wonderful the night of. Also, the lighting company was fantastic to work with as well (Kaleigh). Our wedding was like a dream! Wouldn’t have had it any other way!!!Moonlight Studios's reply:

We held our wedding ceremony and reception at Moonlight Studios back in November 2019, and the space worked perfectly for our needs! We wanted a space that wasn't "basic" or "cookie cutter" for our wedding, and the main studio space, which includes downlights (with every color available for you to choose from) and beautiful chandeliers met that need perfectly - giving us the urban, yet regal & romantic feeling we desired for our wedding day!
The main studio space can accommodate a large number of guests, and in addition there are also a variety of gallery spaces that you can easily for a cocktail hour for guests while your ceremony/reception space gets flipped. In addition to the actual spaces for your events, there is a HUGE getting ready area (complete with a kitchen, couches, tables, and a television) to use as a bridal suite for getting ready or just to relax before the ceremony starts, which we REALLY loved and appreciated on our big day.
Our main contact at Moonlight Studios, Izabela, was a dream to work with - answering all of our questions quickly 7 thoroughly, providing wonderful recommendations for decor/lighting when we couldn't figure out what we needed, and being such a flexible partner while we were planning our wedding. From outlining parking options for our guests who chose to drive, to allowing us to store some of our DIY wedding items in her office the day before our event, she was so accommodating and the day wouldn't have run as smoothly without her input!
While this is definitely not a complaint (more of an FYI for future brides - and something I wish I had known going in), I would just warn that it will definitely take a more sizeable $$ commitment to really get the space decorated, so make sure you budget accordingly! The space is beautiful (and the downlighting & tables are included with the space), but you will most likely need to add some pipe & draping and additional lighting to really make the space shine (in addition to your florals/table decor/etc). Moonlight Studios is owned by Sound Investment, so they are only option for those A/V needs, which definitely makes it harder to negotiate since you can only work with them.
At the end of the day our wedding day was perfect, Moonlight Studios was a gorgeous venue (with a wonderful staff), and we wouldn't hesitate to hold an event there again! -

Cannot thank Moonlight and Isabella enough for the most amazing amazing weekend of our lives! The venue is absolutely gorgeous, and the industrial setting was perfect for our slightly non-traditional Indian wedding! Izabela and the staff were accommodating, communicative and a pleasure to work with. All of our family and friends couldn’t stop raving about the space, especially the uniqueness with it being in the city. The lighting (sound investment) is a bit expensive compared to other vendors, but totally worth it. Overall - absolutely recommend if you want a once-in-a-lifetime experience!Moonlight Studios's reply:

Camille Sent on 04/09/2018Moonlight studios was a great venue for us because we wanted to create our wedding environment from scratch. We wanted to bring out the Chicago vibe for all of our family, especially those from out of town (we had a lot of people fly in). There was a great mix of brick, high ceilings and chandeliers. We call our wedding style urban-chic. We brought all of our decor, tables and chairs. We were required to use the sister company, Sound Investments, for any audio/visual things which did add to the cost but in the end, worked out for the best because the buildings were right next to each other. Our DJ was able to work from the balcony up top so it really felt like a party. The event coordinator switched halfway through our planning year but they did their best to make it as seamless as possible. The space was great for our 300 guests although it was a little tight with a mix of rectangle and round tables. We did have to take away some tables to make the dance floor bigger but no one minded so it worked out great! The cocktail rooms were great for our guests. I absolutely love wedding planning and had the greatest time customizing every detail of our wedding. Moonlight was a great place to do all that!

If you're looking for a reputable venue that will followthrough on their contractual obligation to host your event, DO NOT select Moonlight. We learned in February 2021 that they were cancelling our event in October due to the pandemic via email. Even though (now May 2021) things are looking good for October events, they decided to close through 2021. When I tried to call to get answers they did not immediately respond. Fortunately we got our money back, but did not offer to reschedule or help in any additional way. -

If you value helpful service, timely follow-ups, and proactive issue resolution, DO NOT work with Moonlight Studios and Sound Investment. We booked Moonlight Studios in 2019 for our May 2021 Indian wedding. We liked that the space was a blank canvas and that it accommodated our large guest count of 500 people.
Due to COVID, we made the decision to postpone our wedding to May 2022 and communicated this to the venue. They refused to move our deposit to the new date because they could not fill the old date (to this day, we are not sure if they ever filled the original date- they responded cagily to all of our follow-ups) and they asked us to pay another deposit for 2022, which was higher due to inflation. Though disappointed, we paid and moved on.
In 2020, after not hearing from anyone at the venue for months, we made a surprise visit to Moonlight Studios and learned from a Sound Investment employee that the venue was now being used as a production studio to host virtual events during COVID. We were also surprised to learn from this employee that our point person from the venue was in Poland. We did a walkthrough and saw that the venue was now filled with lots of AV equipment, lighting, and a newly built stage, very different from the “blank canvas” venue we saw back in 2019. We noticed that one of the galleries that we intended to rent had also been converted to a control room.
After following up with our point person, we were assured that EVERYTHING would be removed by the time of our wedding in May 2022 as the venue converted back into an event space.
In November 2021, we reached out to our point person by email and asked to schedule a walkthrough with our decorator. She asked me to call her (rather than risk putting it in writing) to “clarify a few things”. I called her and she told me very casually that the new stage COULD NOT be removed in time for our wedding and the gallery would have to remain a control room. Thus, the venue’s capacity was no longer 500 but more like 300.
After several (angry) follow-ups on our part, we were finally told that Sound Investment had to make a business decision to stay afloat during COVID. We implored them to remove the stage considering Moonlight is a leased space and it can’t be a permanent fixture. They refused…probably because it would cost them thousands to do so.
I can understand that businesses did what they had to to survive during COVID. However, what I found absolutely unacceptable is that NO ONE reached out to us to tell us of this change UNTIL I REACHED OUT FIRST. OUR WEDDING WAS 6 MONTHS AWAY.
While a refund was offered, but this was a clear breach of contract and we had every right to take legal action for damages. In the end, we decided against suing, feeling like we didn’t want to spend another second of our time on folks who so clearly don’t deserve it.
We are so fortunate to have found a new venue that is run by professionals and not scam artists.
