A Dream Experience

I worked with the amazing designers at Modern Trousseau to design my dream wedding dress. After searching through lots of dresses, it felt like a sigh of relief to realize I could create my dream dress from start to finish with the amazing designers at Modern Trousseau. They were so helpful and kind, responsive and detail-oriented. Not to mention they did overnight adjustments VERY close to my wedding to help make sure I felt totally comfortable and beautiful in my dress. Modern Trousseau DC is a Hidden Gem

Modern Trousseau Washington DC is a hidden gem! Kelly was beyond patient and positive as I searched for my dress and changed my wedding style. I ended up getting a custom dress, which I fell in love with and didn't want to take off on my wedding day. The entire process from start to finish was great. The best wedding dress!

I had a wonderful experience with Modern Trousseau! I originally hated wedding dress shopping and found the whole process stressful, but then I went here and started to really enjoy it. Their dresses are gorgeous and the level of customer service is amazing. I don’t even feel right calling it “customer service” - I was really made to feel like a friend more than a customer. The designer herself was there for my appointment, and she and my mom had a great time while we all sipped champagne. The entire process - from my first time going there to the final fitting - was so easy and fun. And most importantly - the dress was SO gorgeous. I still can’t get over it, and months later I’m still getting compliments. And it had pockets! I really couldn’t recommend Modern Trousseau more.

I had such an amazing, unique experience working with Modern Trousseau on my wedding gown. Going to New Haven for the fittings was such an incredible opportunity to see the kind of craftsmanship and design that goes into every single dress they produce. When i went for my muslin fitting for my Virginia gown, Ilma adjusted the cut of the top and back of the dress to better flatter my figure. Every time I went and saw the dress getting closer and closer to being complete the team was making small adjustments to ensure that the dress fit me perfectly. The final product was so beautiful, the lace on Modern Trosseau dresses is absolutely gorgeous, and the dress was so comfortable I didn't want to take it off at the end of the night.
Ilma also helped to fit my mom for a corset for her dress, and even sewed in padding on one side to help her feel more comfortable and confident after breast cancer surgery. We had such a great experience with Modern Trousseau!

Purchasing my wedding gown from Modern Trousseau was the best decision I could have made! From my first appointment with Emily in the NYC showroom to my last fitting appointment in Connecticut, everything was absolutely flawless! I visited the NYC showroom twice a few months apart and ended up choosing a dress that I had feel in love with during my first appointment. Emily was so sweet and made me feel so special. She never pressured me into a purchase or made me feel like I had to rush into a decision. When you get your dress from Modern Trousseau is it truly a custom couture gown! I am very petite and I had an extremely difficult time finding a dress that would fit correctly. Fear not, at Modern Trousseau’s muslin fitting the dress is literally created around you and directly to your proportions instead of simply ordering the closest standard size like typical bridal salons. Monika was my seamstress in Connecticut and she made the travel from NJ to my fittings absolutely worth it, she was brilliant! She made sure my dress fit perfectly, it was stunning! We also created a custom veil! Guests at the wedding could not stop talking about how beautiful the dress was!

I found my Modern Trousseau gown at a local bridal salon however they were unclear about what alterations were and were not possible. I really wanted to add a bolero and make a gown strapless. I ended up going to NYC to try it on again and speak to them about alterations possibilities, was a completely different response. They were SO flexible and offered so many options and allowed me to truly personalize this beautiful gown. I did my alterations in CT and the entire process was so special and I could not have asked for a better experience. They shipped my gown to me and it was in perfect condition. If you are looking for a wonderful designer who is open to alterations, look no further.

Modern Trousseau was a pleasure to work with to the highest order. This review is really for any NYC gals who aren't sure if it's worth the trip to Woodbridge, CT (that was me). My fittings were all in the dead of winter and every trip up to CT was worth the drive. I worked with Monika who was patient and brilliant. She customized every detail until I was beyond thrilled. Not to mention, MT dresses are stunning, unique and so comfortable.

Modern Trousseau was absolutely fabulous to work with! I chose their Mina dress and had the dress built custom for me (an absolutely awesome feature if you live close by). The dress fit beautifully and to top it off they were so flexible and easy to work with. At one point I had added buttons to my dress and when I actually saw them on, it did not look right and the team there removed it for me without making me feel bad at all about my decision. I felt like a princess on my wedding day and attribute that largely to my Modern Trousseau dress.

There are two entries for them between their NYC showroom and their production facility, so I'll copy my review to both:

I simply cannot say enough good things about Modern Trousseau!! I am terribly sad that I will not get to have another wedding dress made for my by them. I am looking for any and all reasons to return and have another custom dress. Unbelievable - incomparable - unquestioningly the best decision I made regarding my wedding, aside from my spouse. :)

I had a very specific vision for what I wanted, and it didn't exist in Manhattan. I know, because I looked. Even Kleinfeld's, home of 10,000 wedding dresses didn't have it. Enter: Modern Trousseau.

They had a dress with the exact top I wanted. I brought them my Pinterest Board full of dress inspiration, and the sketched out a design for the bottom. Then, they built it - to absolute perfection. I'd go in for a fitting (all done in CT; I'm assuming if they had such a large production house in Manhattan, the dresses would cost at least double, then I'd be priced out), and they'd nip and tuck exactly as I requested. They actually built the dress on me, around me, and BEAUTIFULLY AND PERFECTLY!

I wish I could keep wearing it. David is one of the owners and he's so kind. Cassie is the designer, and she's very talented. I had Monica as my seamstress, and she's beyond talented. She "got" me, even when I was struggling to find the right words to convey what I wanted.

I visited Modern Trousseau with a friend 18 months prior to my own visit. I assumed it was out of my price range since customization is their speciality. I am not wealthy, but I was able to swing a custom dress! It won't break the bank, but they surely do cost more than David's Bridal. They made me a custom, couture gown, and I'll forever be grateful for their attention to detail and kindness to me, the nervous bride (btw - we had a short engagement, and they still helped me pull off a gown in just a few months!).

I found a dress at a trunk show that I liked from the knees up - after some research, I discovered that Modern Trousseau offered a very similar dress but with the simple trumpet shape that I wanted (the Demi). I called the NYC showroom and they offered to make sure that the sample of this very new design was in the store for my appointment the following week. I went with the spanxiest spanx I could find, knowing that I was pretty far from a sample size - and in fact, I was not able to get into the dress - but the designer was actually in the store on the day of my appointment and she "paper dolled" me so that I could get the effect of the design. I had my 'say yes to the dress' moment...only to learn that the dress was well beyond my budget. Again, it was a blessing that Callie, the designer, happened to be in the store - she negotiated a price with me that (though still over my initial budget) was reasonably close. The main advantage to Modern Trousseau is the 'couture fit' - that the dress is made to fit your body, not bought in a size and altered to fit. I had three appointments in Woodbridge, CT (a bit of a schlep, but worth it) and really felt like the dress fit me perfectly when I picked it up at the final fitting. (The dress had no built in bra, but they sold me a perfect strapless corset.) I loved that my wedding date was embroidered in blue inside the gown - also, they happily stitched in a piece of lace from my mother's wedding dress over my heart. They also made me custom flowers for my hair and my sash - also with pieces of my mother's dress - and they were gorgeous.

I feel so fortunate to have found Modern Trousseau. During the decision making process I was totally torn between two beautiful Modern Trousseau gowns. However, I was fortunate enough to meet with Callie (at a Trunk Show) and get her opinion on doing a custom gown that would combine my favorite elements of both of the gowns into one.

The fitting was extremely easy and stress-free, as the seamstress was an absolute pro. She was personable and professional and was able to provide helpful suggestions on custom adjustments for my body type. Callie also attended my second fitting, which was very special. Having her "eyes" on the gown made me feel even more confident about the final product, not to mention that she is an incredibly lovely woman.

The quality and finishing of the gown was also second to none. The compliments I received on my gown were endless and I was comfortable and felt beautiful.

I purchased my dress from The Gown Shop Ann Arbor - but as a New Yorker (and not too far away from Woodbridge, CT) I decided to get my dress fitted and custom made at their atelier outside of New Haven, CT.

It's hard to describe how amazing my experience was - going directly to the amazing women - and working directly with designer Callie on my wedding gown -- I felt like I was part of the family going there over the course of a few months, it was everything I could have hoped for - they were warm, professional, detail-oriented and very talented.

By the time I left the atelier and my gown was done, it was perfect. Everything - the fit, the gown, the construction, everything - and the team at Modern Trousseau wouldn't have let it be any other way.

I am SO happy that I went with Modern Trousseau for my wedding gown for this amazing day. And I have to say that if i ever needed to have a custom gown made for some reason or another (let's hope that day comes at some point!) I know I would reach out to Modern Trousseau for that, just to have some aspect of those amazing days repeated!

Thank you again Modern Trousseau team for an incredible dress for a beautiful day.

I am a Modern Trousseau bride from July! 2013 I got my modern trousseau gown from Tre Bella Bridal in Durham. It was wonderful! I wanted a very specific look and so I loved the true customization feature of Modern Trousseau gowns. Once I tried on the Nila gown, I fell in love with the lace. The original Nila gown is an all lace gown with a boat-neckline with short sleeves and a short train. I was able to add 3/4 length lace sleeves, request that the gown only have lace above the waste line, change the skirt style to A-line, add train length, add buttons all the way down to the bottom of the train, and add pleats around the waist of the gown. The final dress was more beautiful than anything I could've imagined and it was a dress that was truly made just for me. They didn't over charge me for all these changes, they just calculated what the true cost of what it would be to build a dress exactly how I wanted: ie, there were some additional costs for the lace sleeves, more train, etc but they also subtracted costs because I didn't want lace on the bottom half of my dress.

I am also very petite so it was wonderful to get measured and have a dress that was made true to my measurements. This saved me money on the alteration bill and made sure that my dress fit exactly right!

The material used to make Modern Trousseau gowns is also top-notch. 100% silk.

I can't say enough about Modern Trousseau! Find our nearest bridal shop that sells MT and go for it!

I got the Ainsley dress by Modern Trousseau and absolutely loved it. Modern Trousseau allows you to customize all their dresses - I had a cap sleeve and sheer lace back added to mine. The overall experience was great - from the wide selection of dresses to the responsiveness of the design room when I decided I wanted to make a slight alteration to the dress. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a wedding gown, particularly if you're looking for lace!!!

I could not have been happier with my Modern Trousseau experience. I took one of the classic designs and altered it as I thought appropriate for my body type (petite, large chest). Monica, my personal consultant/seamstress totally helped me get to where I wanted the dress to be. I was so flattering, so feminine. I got so many complements on my wedding dress - so many guests told me that it was unique and stunning. The best part is, after the wedding, I went back to Modern Trousseau and had the dress shortened and altered to make it a cocktail appropriate style. So I will be able to wear my special, custom dress on many many occasions. I am so pleased with my MT experience - thank you, Monica, Callie, and David!

I purchased the Ainsley dress by MT for my October wedding in New York. The minute I tried it on, I knew it was the ONE. I was looking for something romantic, and comfortable, with a vintage feel. The Ainsley was beautiful, flattering on my hourglass figure, and very comfortable!!! Dresses I had tried on with other vendors were simply too stiff and heavy. I was able to dance around all night in the Ainsley, which was very important to me. I also purchased the Iris hair clip to go with it, which was equally as stunning.

I found my Modern Trousseau dress on the first day I looked at The White Dress by the shore. Upon trying it on I was beaming. Luckily for me, being that I planned my wedding in a relatively short time period, the team at Modern Trousseau was extremely dedicated fitting me in to their busy schedule and making my dress an utter masterpiece. I cannot say more about their level of talent and professionalism. The dress fit me perfectly and made me feel gorgeous and glowing on big day. I live in NYC and was more than happy to make the trip to Woodbridge to have my fittings. Everyone is so incredibly talented - I couldn't believe that we could see the room where the actual fabric for my dress was cut. So much care and thought goes into each dress. I loved my Modern Trousseau Wedding Dress! I wore the "Leah" gown for our wedding and could not have been happier with my choice. I purchased my gown at the White Magnolia in Jacksonville Florida. The bridal salon that I purchased my gown at helped me customize my dress to fit my personality and our wedding. One of my favorite details about any Modern Trousseau gown is the label which you can personalize it any way you want. It was my something blue and old, I had my maiden name monogrammed on the label. Our wedding took place in Tallahassee Florida at Mission San Luis, a historic site in town, our wedding had a sense of southern charm and my gown could not have fit the image any better. I am one happy bride!

I bought a Modern Trousseau dress from the White Dress by the Shore at a trunk show. It was so nice to meet Callie (who is so sweet and down-to-earth). She custom-made my dress by taking one dress "Emma" and cutting it into the shape of "Adele". It came out beautifully and it truly looks like a one-of-a-kind, unique dress. I found Modern Trousseau by sheer accident & attended a trunk show at Zita Bridal Salon in Milwaukee, WI to find a gown for my vow-renewal, where I asked that an older design of Modern Trousseau's, Lena, be included. While I tried on a few other gowns, Lena was THE dress from the first time I saw a photo and Marina, the store owner, has been an amazing representative of your line for me as I asked questions about customizations, adding a monogrammed label, and now purchasing a hairpiece (the "eve clip") for my April 20 Southern-themed event planned especially for my Atlanta-born groom. Modern Trousseau has, by far, surpassed my admiration for Tiffany and American Express in their commitment to customer service, and that is saying a lot as I am very difficult to impress. I have been treated by both Zita and MT like I was purchasing a $10,000 gown & not one that was far less. The gown I wore for my actual wedding cost over $1,000 MORE to have LESS of the dress; everything I needed changed for this vow-renewal gown was included, an included happily by Modern Trousseau, at no extra charge to me...WOW, what a refreshing change in the bridal industry! Lena may not be your best seller and Eve may not be the most sought-after hairpiece Modern Trousseau manufactures, but both are perfect for me and this event. Yes, indeed, your gowns are made with love...and in the U.S.A. makes it even better for this specifically-Southern U.S.A. event. I now feel like I am part of the "Modern Trousseau Family". Thank you for working with Zita to make me feel like the only woman you are outfitting for her special day...

I absolutely love my dress! I found the top of one and the bottom of a different pattern and for a slight fee the designer combined the two patterns and made my custom gown. Was the prettiest dress I've ever seen!

So proud to be a Modern Trousseau bride. I wore the Portia on 9/22/12 when I married my love. I have to share a story with you first. In July of 2011, my now husband and I were in Charleston, SC while I was finishing up training for my new job with Walgreens. We parked the car so he could finish a phone call and when I looked to my right, I saw the Charleston store. I immediately took a photo and sent it to my best friend (who introduced my husband and I and was our MOH). I told her we would be shopping here for the big day, which I had no idea would come in 2012.

I had totally forgotten about this until the day I chose a Modern Trousseau gown from Hayden Olivia Bridal in Charlotte. I randomly chose this shop because it was centrally located for my mother (WV), my now sister-in-law (Atlanta), and myself (North Myrtle Beach, SC). I hadn't looked at Modern Trousseau gowns, I actually was not a fan when they pulled Portia from the rack and insisted I try it on. It was gown number 3 and from the moment I put it on, I knew it was the gown I would marry my husband in. It was so comfortable. I could wear it everyday!

It seems as if Modern Trousseau was meant to be my designer one way or another!

The designers at Modern Trousseau and my bridal shop made my dream come true. I truly felt like a princess on my wedding day, and it was all because I was in a dress that was custom made for ME!

I had a great experience working with Modern Trousseau for my June 30 wedding in Essex, CT. I purchased the dress from White Dress by The Shore in Clinton. Unbeknownst to me, my appointment was during a Modern Trousseau trunk show. Once I had narrowed down my dresses, I was excited to learn that the designer (Callie Tein) was at the boutique. She came in to look at the dresses. It was great that she was able to see me in her designs and help me decide on a style. I went with the Maison from the Spring 2012 collection and ordered it strapless. When I received the dress, I was very pleased. In person, the fabric was stunning and since it was lightweight, it worked out perfectly for a hot June wedding day. I loved the detail, especially the lace work and the inside of the dress with my name stitched in blue. Overall, I would highly recommend Modern Trousseau for timeliness, attention to detail and a personalized experience.

Love the staff at Modern Trousseau and my dress was BEAUTIFUL. They did a wonderful job. There are some amazing people who work there who were a joy to work with.

they made my dress for me and me alone. they made me feel as though i was the only bride and when i put that dress on, i didn't ever want to take it off. i still haven't seen one like it yet.

This is a "small world" story. About 11 or 12 years ago, a friend came to me and asked if I'd do her a favor. I'm a graphic artist and my friend asked me if I'd design a business card for a friend of hers... Callie Tein, a dress designer who owned a company called Modern Trousseau. I designed the business card for free and my friend said that maybe someday Callie would make me a dress. She made wedding dresses and I was not getting married in the near future. I kinda forgot about the business card, etc. Fast forward to 2011 and I got engaged and was now looking for a dress. I couldn't find anything that I really liked and I had pretty much forgotten about Modern Trousseau and that Callie owned it. So I'm going nuts looking for wedding gowns while dieting fast and furious to be as svelte as I possibly could be by September 2011. It was getting down to the wire... it was July 2011 and I needed a dress. I almost bought one in Torrington, CT but as I drove to pick up the dress in Torrington, I decided to call another wedding dress shop in another part of Connecticut. I tried on several dresses, fell in love with one of them and - oddly - when I looked at the tag - the dress was made by Modern Trousseau. And it was July... it was too late to just order the dress. So... I had to have it custom made for me. I had to order a "muslin"... a muslin is a pattern made out of muslin material that is custom made to fit the bride's body. The dressmaker then uses the muslin pattern to cut the fabric and make a dress that fits the bride's body. It's much better than buying a dress off the rack and having someone alter it to fit your body. You haven't lived until a dressmaker makes a wedding gown exclusively for you. It's the most amazing feeling to stand in the middle of a room full of mirrors while the actual dress designer - in my case Callie Tein of Modern Trousseau - stands beside you pinning lace and stitching your wedding gown to your exact measurements. I felt as though I had traveled through time back to the days when wedding gowns were custom-made. It's almost unheard of today to have a gown made to your exact measurements. if you're lucky enough to live in Connecticut or New York or Rhode Island, it's definitely worth the travel time to have your dress made by Callie Tein. She's wonderful, pleasant, a dream to work with and she makes exquisite dresses. She'll even embroider your name into the gown's lining in light blue. That embroidery was my "something blue" in the old "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue." My wedding day was a thousand times more special wearing one of Callie's gorgeous creations.

Callie and the rest of the incredibly talented team at Modern Trousseau made my wedding dress experience unforgettable. Callie so graciously donated one of her stunning gowns for a giveaway that my husband and I were so lucky to receive. From the first meeting to the following two fittings, Callie made me feel so at eas right from the start. She is kind, compassionate and beyond talented. I could not have asked for a better experience or a more beautiful dress for the most wonderful day of my life. An appointment at the Modern Trousseau showroom in Manhattan was our first stop in the search for a gown for a July 2017 wedding at the beautiful Pleasantdale Chateau in New Jersey. My daughter tried on several gowns on that first appointment with Emily, who helped her narrow down the choices. After looking around we returned to Modern Trousseau. Emily was also helpful in selecting the veil as my daughter tried on several styles and lengths so that when we were at the Connecticut location we already knew the look and length we wanted. Monika was our seamstress. She was outstanding in creating the stunning dress that fit like a glove. My daughter is petite and wanted a shapely appearance in her Georgia gown. The gown could not have been more perfectly fit, the French Aloncon lace was exquisite, and the custom veil was beautiful. Simply stunning!! From the showroom visit in Manhattan with Emily, working with Monika who created a custom fit, and to meeting the designer Callie for her stamp of approval on the final fitting, it was an outstanding experience. Absolutely worth the 2.5 hour trips to Conn. Thank you Modern Trousseau team!!!

Amazing dresses and friendly staff!

Modern Trousseau have beautiful dresses and the fact they measure you from the beginning made it so I didn't have to schedule so many dress fittings. Their staff was friendly, professional and caring and I didn't feel pushed into anything I didn't want. They made some small suggestions I thought I wouldn't like and I ended up liking some of their ideas. My seamstress (Jas) was the best seamstress I have ever met and she was able to cater to my crazy schedule. She even helped make my mother's dress! Very minor comment: the wait time seemed longer than I thought it would be but when you get a more customized dress, it takes longer. I wish I got more email updates about the status of the dress. I started getting nervous as the wedding day got closer and I didn't hear anything. Overall, very happy, very satisfied and I looked amazing! The dress fit me much better than I thought it would! Thank you again!

Purchasing my wedding dress from Modern Trousseau was one of the best decisions I made! Despite the long drives from New Jersey up to Connecticut for each fitting it was an incredible experience having a dress made just for you! Agnes, the seamstress who made my dress is so talented and was a pleasure to work with. The day of my wedding I felt so beautiful in my dress. My "Lane" Modern Trousseau gown was everything I could have ever imagined. I worked with the designer Kali and she helped make my vision come true. I wanted a single detachable strap to match the pedals on the front of my dress and for the strap to cross my back and we did just that. It was simply perfection!

I could not have asked for a more beautiful wedding dress (I chose the Laurel)! As soon as I tried the sample on in the New York City showroom I knew it was dress for me. It was so light, airy and romantic I could not have been happier, or more comfortable, the day of my wedding. The seamstress, Agnes, who beautifully constructed my dress is so talented. She listened to any concerns I had and helped to make me look incredibly beautiful on my one special day, thank you!
Despite the very long drives my family and I made up to their factory in Woodbridge, CT (2.5- 3 hours each way) the entire experience made me feel special. It was incredible to have a dress custom made just for me!
And although the showroom salesperson was new at the time of purchase and there was minor confusion with pricing, and the steps that needed to be taken in the showroom versus the factory, I would not hesitate to recommend getting your dress from Modern Trousseau. I am still overwhelmed by the amount of compliments I continue to receive, I only wish I could wear my dress again!

As I imagine there are with many brides, the process of wedding dress shopping generated significant family drama. Luckily, however, after the dust settled (and yes, I had bought a different dress), my husband and I came across your dresses in the DC bridal salon, 'Hitched'. We were able to meet the designer at a trunk show and she was really helpful in our decision making. She even agreed to add pockets - a feature I had liked on a different modern trousseau dress.

Purchased a gown from them, giving them specific instructions, which I told them multiple times. They completely neglected my request. And when I asked them about that, they snarled at me. They may be an okay business with good products, but the employees and owner are terrible people. They were very aggressive and antagonistic towards me. It was one of the most unpleasant encounters I've ever had with a business and I really advise anyone to think twice before doing business with these people.

My daughter ordered her wedding dress custom from Modern Trousseau CharlestonSC in Feb 2019 Dress was promised August 5th A 50% deposit was made No dress arrived for Aug 5th Rescheduled to Sept 1st NO DRESS ARRIVED Now Sept 11, 2019 the corporate office cannot give her a delivery date wedding is 60 days out NO DRESS

Just Say No To Modern Trousseau

I picked Modern Trousseau because they make beautifully fitted lace wedding dresses or so I thought. Unfortunately my dress fit like a paper bag.

My parents paid a fortune for this custom made wedding dress that did not fit me. My final fitting was only 10 days before my wedding but the dress I received doesn’t seem to have been fit for me.

My bridesmaids had to stuff toilet paper in my dress, pull the material together and sew me into it just to keep it on for the wedding.

It’s difficult to feel like a beautiful woman on your wedding day when you’re walking down the aisle in a dress stuffed with TP.

The sample dress fit me like a glove but my custom made dress didn’t fit at all.

My parents tried to talk to the dress maker but they claim the contract we signed gave them the right to make me an ill fitting dress with impunity.

Don’t have your wedding day ruined and waste your/ your families money buying a dress from Modern Trousseau.

Do not trust this company. I requested my dress to be designed with off the shoulder sleeves and did not receive a completed product. I spoke to two staff women at both the Nashville and Mahanntan offices where I purchased and was measured respectively, either could be of any help. I was sent to speak to the head Connecticut office to an extremely rude and abrasive designer who was also of zero help. Weeks of confusion back and forth with Nashville landed me without the dress I paid for.
I am beyond upset with this outcome and wish every bride to have a better experience - shop somewhere else.
