Everything we could ask for and more!

Mill 1 was an absolutely perfect venue for our wedding. The brick, natural lighting, and open spaces made for a beautiful day, and even more beautiful photos. We worked mostly with Regina, and she was an absolute dream to work with. She was professional, helpful, and responsive, and made sure to account for every last detail to make our day perfect. The other staff we worked with were also wonderful, including the bar manager Beth who made our signature cocktail vision come to life. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding day or planning experience. I would highly recommend Mill 1 to anyone considering booking it.

Dream come true

The days and weeks leading up to the wedding we worked with Emily, who was phenomenal! She was flexible, accommodating, and extremely responsive. The day of we had the pleasure of having Adrianna and her team provide us day-of coordination and planning. They felt like a part of the family and made sure that not a stress or worry came our way. They were organized, personable, and communicative with all of our vendors. They ensured our timelines were met with ease and efficiency and catered to us from the day before to the week after. We are so grateful for this team and venue. We had the time of our lives and memories that will last a lifetime. Our guests are still talking about our event and both how beautiful it was and how much fun they had. This team helped us make that happen.

Amazing staff and venue

This place was absolutely beautiful. The coordinator Regina was super nice and helpful throughout the whole process. The venue was beautiful and handicap accessible which was important to us. Cheaper then most places and you got more from this place then most places as well. you could decorate the venue to your liking so it fit you and your vision. I Honestly couldn't see myself getting married anywhere else. This place was perfect.

Perfect venue for perfect day!

Mill 1 was the best wedding venue we could have hoped for. We looked at a handful of options in the area and were blown away at how affordable the venue is for how beautiful it is. Mill 1 staff were extremely helpful laying out options for tables, chairs, lighting and other wonderful touches that truly allowed us to customize our day to be just how we planned it. We brought in our own flowers and other little touches and Mill 1 was extremely easy to work with setting up and taking down those little "extras." Our guests loved the huge reception hall for dinner and dancing and the smaller, intimate ceremony space really made that "I Do" moment extra special. The Mill 1 staff was extremely responsive to our requests; Reggie and the owner John were back to us quickly whenever we had questions, no matter how minor. The venue had only a few catering options but those options were excellent. We had an issue day of getting guests to the venue on time but Mill 1 staff were flexible and had the staff stay later than we planned to ensure we got our full reception. There were not any nearby places to eat or drink for a rehearsal dinner or afterparty but that's nothing a bus rental and 15 minute drive cannot solve. We cannot recommend Mill 1 enough to anyone looking to plan their perfect day.

PERFECT wedding day!

Mill 1 was the BEST place for my husband and I to have our wedding. For starters it is obviously a gorgeous space and very our style. The brick, giant windows and hard wood floors are just wonderful. The staff is so kind and helpful throughout this whole process. If you want to DANCE all night, this is the spot. We had roughly 120 guests, most of them dancing, and there was still plenty of room for everyone. Trust me, the dance floor is not something to over look! Wonderful spot, 10 stars!

A historic venue with a great staff

My wife and I wanted something different for our wedding. We wanted something unique. Many venues are just big empty rooms and once you are inside you could be anywhere. That is not the case at Mill 1. Everywhere you look you can see the history and imagine what this building was. From the brick walls to the hardwood floors history pours in from every direction. The space is a tangible connection to Holyoke's manufacturing past that made it the Paper City. Adding to the space is the fact that the team is amazing. From the bar staff to Julie the event manager, everyone went above and beyond to make our day the best day of our lives.. They helped us all along the way and if I could do it again I would pick Mill 1 in a heartbeat.

Mill One is a perfect venue, plain and simple. Extremely versatile space that will work for any type of wedding or event. The space speaks for itself, so for our casual wedding reception, we really did almost no decorating and it was still just stunning. The staff were professional, responsive, and friendly. 10/10!

We loved having our Wedding at Mill One! It was the perfect venue all around. From unique spaces for pictures to the ceremony and reception spaces, everything was perfect. The staff were so helpful and easy to work with. Our day was perfect, thank you Mill One!

Mill 1 was the perfect space for our wedding. We fell in love with the space and loved that there was so much freedom in how we used the space. We had a larger wedding with 200 guests but everyone sat comfortably for the reception. We highly recommend this amazing, budget friendly venue. You will not be disappointed!

We had our wedding here back in June and couldn't of asked for a more perfect day! This is such a unique venue that will not disappoint!! Maggie the owner was a pleasure to work with and EVERYONE raved about the food. 5 stars for sure.

Mill 1 is a beautiful and modern setting for a wedding, and the pictures online do not do justice for how beautiful it is! When I showed my now husband pictures of the venue I chose he liked it, but when I took him there before the wedding he was blown away at how amazing the building is. The staff is extremely easy to work with and so very helpful, they really know what they're doing! Also with everything we had included the cost was very affordable compared to most other venues we looked at. Absolutely in love with Mill 1!

We had a winter wedding at Mill One and absolutely LOVED it! It was a great combination of rustic and modern. The atmosphere was perfect for the time of year and despite the early sunset the pictures came out amazing! We went through a couple event planners but were very happy we had Maggie in the end. She was very responsive to all our emails and endless questions and flexible for set and clean up. The day of our reception went very smoothly with Maggie and Casey's help. All the staff were very friendly and easy-going. We continue to receive compliments on the venue and space. Would DEFINITELY recommend it to anyone!!!

Mill 1 was perfect for our event. We had the most amazing wedding thanks to the help of the staff. Everyone I spoke to from Mill 1 was fantastic. Michelle helped me plan out the original details and then towards the end of planning I worked with Maggie, Sarah, and Hannah- who actually was the event manager the night of my wedding. Everything went smoothly and I didn't have to worry about anything. I would highly recommend this venue to any other bride looking for the perfect western mass wedding!!

The staff at the Mill One was amazing! From the pre-planning and working out details, to making additional services recommendations for stage, lighting and sound work. To the day of the event, the staff on site the day of the event was beyond amazing from helping us unload supplies and set up to breaking down and cleaning up. Most friendly and helpful group to work with.

Staff at Mill One is amazing!!! Michelle was always available throughout the entire planning process!! Hannah was available the day of the wedding and she was amazing. The bartenders were also great!! The complete atmosphere is gorgeous!!! I would highly recommend this venue to everyone!!

Michelle and Sara are amazing! Everything about Mill One is perfect! Many of our guests commented on how beautiful the venue is. It truly is a hidden gem in Holyoke. The staff were super helpful and made sure all ran smoothly. It's an outstanding place with great people to have any event!

Michelle and her staff were so great. They made my event go off without a hitch. They were very completely amazing. It was snowing during my event so they made sure that all of the parking lots were plowed so people could arrive and depart easily. Michelle went to great lengths to make sure everything was perfect for me. The level of service you receive at Mill One is unmatched.

We had a small destination wedding in California and came back home to have a big party with all of our friends and family. We knew we didn't want a typical "reception" space and we both fell in love with Mill 1! The atmosphere inside is absolutely gorgeous, with the brick walls, huge windows and wood floors. All of our guests raved about how cool and unique the place was and we couldn't be happier with our choice. Michelle was great to work with and I loved the bartenders on staff the night of our party, they were awesome. I would highly recommend having an event here!!

As soon as I saw the venue i fell in love with the space. My husband was equally impressed with the beauty and originality of the space. Leading up to the event Michelle was very helpful and assertive. She was there to answer any questions we had. She really went above and beyond and offered her suggestion in a lot of the decorations. The day of our wedding Michelle and her staff were wonderful!! They were there from start to finish to assure the day went as smooth as possible. My wedding at Mill One was absolutely phenomenal. There is no vendor in the area that provides such a unique event space as Mill One does. Because of the high brick walls and beautiful wood floors, you are able to transform the space into your own unique vision. The pricing is incredibly affordable for both the event space, bar pricing as well as Michelle's professional services in coordination.

Michelle was extremely professional, flexible and so helpful with ensuring all vendors were working together and were on time so everything went smoothly. I did not have to worry about a thing the day of the wedding as she was there to take care of it all.

In addition, she allowed my two pugs to be in the wedding and due to a mixup with our hotel, was graciously accomodating when they could not be brought home right away. This was so important to us and we loved that they could be there to celebrate.

I would reccommend this venue for any bride that wants to make their day into the vision they have always dreamed of. I received so many compliments on the space and guests continue to rave about how unique and beautiful the venue was. One guest even commented that they didn't feel like we were in western ma because it was such a unique experience that close to home! Thank you Michelle!

My husband and I have been to several weddings over the past few years, so when it came time for our wedding we wanted something different than what the rest of our friends had done. As soon as we looked at Mill 1 we knew it was the perfect spot for us. The exposed beams in the ceilings, the brick walls and the gorgeous wood floors were amazing.
We hired a lighting team, and the effect of the lighting in the room was breathtaking. We kept out decor very simple... the lighting centerpieces and the candles were just enough. We are still getting compliments from our guests about how amazing the space was.
Michelle at Open Square was great to work with. Throughout the time we spent planning the event she remained extremely helpful and accomodating.
I would absolutely recommend Mill 1 to anyone looking to do something a little out of the ordinary for their reception. The pictures of our reception are stunning due to the backdrop of the building. I am so glad we picked Open Square for our big day!

A lot of people these days are looking to have a unique wedding. My husband and I did not want our wedding reception to take place at a traditional wedding hall. We fell in love with this place even before we saw it in person. When we went to look at the event space at Mill 1 I envisioned lighting, paper lanterns, and decorations and candles in the 20+ tall dramatic windows. Michelle is the manager of the property. She could not have been better in helping me execute my ideas. She had some great ideas to add. I could not be happier with the way our reception turned out. It was elegant and whimsical. The room itself is just beautiful with its brick walls, exposed ceilings, and gorgeous wood floors that shine. The bar is modern and the open bar is affordable. Michelle even worked with me as to what beer/wine/alcohol I thought my guests would like stocked. She was so easy to work with, accommodating, helpful, and responded to emails/calls quickly! The best part is that my guests were raving about the space. “Best wedding I have ever been to” had been mentioned numerous times. The pictures are beautiful. People seem to look even better with a brick background! We got lucky because most people that attended our wedding had never been to a wedding at the mill so they were all the more impressed. There is ample parking but please don’t be alarmed with the surrounding neighborhood. It is in the process of revitalization! It is an old mill section of town. I feel that it only added character!

This venue was PERFECT for my wedding reception! The old hardwood floors and brick walls made for an absolutely beautiful setting. It didn't require many decorations - we decorated the tables nicely with flowers & candles and placed some ferns in the windows to look slightly more elegant.
The event manager, Michelle, was very willing to work with me and my vendors to have all of the details set up perfectly. She made it very easy on me and helped in any way that she could. On my wedding day, I felt confident in Open Square and its staff to do their job well - which is very important for your wedding day :)
I may be biased, but I truly think this was the best and most unique place to have a wedding reception. I LOVED it. Just as a side note: It is a little unusual to find in Holyoke because you feel like you are in the wrong area at first (very industrial looking). However, it is worth every penny we spent and we are so happy we had our reception there!

I was very happy with both the ceremony and reception space for our wedding. The only comment I have would be to request fans/AC in the ceremony venue (it was quite hot our wedding day). We brought fans and it worked out great but if there were some set up higher, it might have been easier to cool the area down. Otherwise, it was perfect and I've already begun recommending it to future brides.

This event space is WONDERFUL. After searching and searching for the perfect spot for our reception, we stumbled across Mill 1, and there is no way that any other venue would have gone above and beyond our expectations the way that Mill 1 has.
Best Parts:
- you can really customize this space however you like; the building used to be a paper mill, and they've refinished the original wood and brick. It is beautiful on its own and requires very little to dress it up, and that's preserved since they haven't decorated it. You can bring in the look you want without worrying about a weird floral carpet or ugly art on the walls.
- the bar is beautiful and classy
- Michelle is fannntastic; she's supportive, down to earth, and fully willing to direct and help you with vendor selection without being pushy
- there's plenty of space outside of the 'main room'; if someone needs to make a phone call or if little ones need a space to run around, there's plenty of room
- there's plenty of parking for your guests, and it's very VERY accessible to major highways
- you don't know anyone who's had their reception there! :)
- you're supporting a really special community at Mill 1; Open Square is home to artists, dance/yoga studios, retail shops, attorneys, etc. It's a breath of fresh air for the Holyoke community, and you're contributing to a great place.

I couldn't be happier with the staff and the venue. Everything was beautiful and Michelle makes sure to ask the important questions that most of us brides-to-be forget to ask! She was always available to talk to you and extremely accommodating.
The venue is unique and beautiful... guests of ours are still talking about it!

Mill 1 at Open Square was wonderful! We received so many compliments on the venue and ambiance. Michelle at Open Square was fantastic to work with- she had great ideas, responded quickly, and was very flexible to our requests. Planning was simple and they coordinated some aspects with our caterer. The space is beautiful and perfect for photos. We used the gallery space to have our ceremony which was lit wonderfully with natural light and set up to our exact specifications. We were walked through early in the day to see if there were any last minute changes we wanted. The bridal suite is new and perfect and the bar service was superior. The price is very reasonable. We could not have asked for a more accommodating experience. I have helped friends with their weddings and have never come across a venue with so much character (and still elegant!). We highly recommend them to everyone.

My wedding was amazing! The venue is beautiful, had my ceremony in Mill 4 and reception in mill 1. Staff was very easy and personable to work with. You can make the space look glamorous or rustic depending on your vision. We went industrial glam and added canvas pics and different decor to make it pop and add the glam factor.

Mill 1 at Open Square went above and beyond to ensure that we had a perfect wedding day!

The space itself is gorgeous-- exposed brick, hardwood floors, huge windows. The mill was restored beautifully and makes for the perfect event space. The fact that it was a net zero energy building was especially appealing to my husband- an architect interested in sustainable building practices.

Maggie and Denise were wonderful-- I had a lot of questions and ideas, and they were always responsive and accommodating. They certainly took care of us to help make it a stress free day!

Our guests continue to rave about the unique space, which just reaffirms for us what a fabulous choice it was to have our wedding at Mill 1.

We had lined up a few venues to check out for our ceremony and reception, and Mill 1 was the first place we visited. After meeting Maggie and seeing the space, we were hooked! We cancelled our other appointments and reserved our date. The fact that Open Square is a carbon-neutral space was a huge bonus for us, too.

The space was the perfect size for our reception (about 100 guests), and the staff worked hard to make sure that everything went smoothly before and during our wedding. The bar staff were on top of their game, too. So many of our guests remarked on how wonderful the space was, and we couldn't have been happier with our big day!

We could not have been happier with our wedding at Mill 1 on August 9th, 2014. The venue itself is gorgeous and exactly what we were looking for (the complete opposite of a hotel or country club ballroom). The old wooden floors, exposed brick walls, large mill windows all made for the perfect setting. We comfortably fit our 170 guests and still had a giant dance floor that stayed packed most of the night. We received so many compliments from our guests about how unique and different the venue was and how much they loved it.

We had our ceremony at Open Square also. It was very simple, the white chairs looked great with the wood floors and the white and brick walls. This area is not air-conditioned so it was a little hot, but not too bad, and Mill 1 provided all of the guests with cold waters as they arrived.

Michelle St. Jaques was a pleasure to work with. It was so great to be the only wedding happening that day so we did not feel as if we had to compete for her attention or worry about very strict schedules and shuffling about. Michelle was at the venue all day and night making sure that everything went according to plan. She helped us with the decorations, worked directly with the vendors to ensure everyone was on the same page with timing, and allowed us to enjoy our day without having to worry about anything.

A huge thanks to Mill 1 and Michelle for helping us realize our wedding vision!

Mill 1 was the most amazing place to hold a reception. The space looks incredible with even just a few touches for decorations. The staff was unbelievable! From the first visit we had to the day of the wedding they thought of everything! I had no clue what I was doing with the planning and they thought of things that didn't even cross my mind and I would have been lost without. They took care of coordinating with all of the vendors about schedules and rules and even helped with the seating chart. The night of the reception Sarah was so gracious and willing to help with whatever would make our lives easier and allow us to just enjoy the night. Michelle was so friendly and so easy going she made me feel so comfortable throughout the whole process. I would recommend Mill 1 to anyone regardless of their "theme"!

Open Square is the best place to have a wedding. We had both our ceremony and reception there. Our guests told us that the venue had exceeded expectations for the day and that it was so unique and beautiful. We were so happy with how everything came together in that space.

Michelle is very accommodating and easy to work with and was very attentive to details throughout the whole planning process.

The space for the ceremony is not air conditioned, the day we had it was very muggy, but people were still comfortable with the fans that we rented for the place.
Also, just watch out for an upcharge by your caterer because the kitchen does not have a dishwasher.

I would definitely recommend hosting any event here, the space is like nothing else you'll see!

I would highly recommend an event at Open Square. The venue is beautiful and unique!! I received so many compliments on the place! I fell in love with the space and was very happy with the result. It is a blank canvas but yet as so much character on its own..you can really make the space yours!

The Perfect Day

Beautiful space. OUTSTANDING bartending staff that made sure everyone of my guests had what they needed. My guests couldn't stop gushing about how perfect everything was and how gorgeous the space was. It was a perfect wedding; everything went as planned. Reggie was wonderful to work with. Our ceremony was at the venue as well, and the set up there was spectacular. Their altar piece is a must! The cocktail lounge area is the perfect size for around 160-170 guests in my opinion. I would also pick Longitude for your caterer. Our wedding was beginning of October during a slight cold spell, and the ceremony space, despite not being air conditioned, stayed at a normal temperature.

Mill 1 at Open Square is a beautiful event space. My husband and I got married there recently and it was perfect. Rustic and simple. Our event coordinator Julie was also amazing and was very helpful to us through the whole process, especially on the wedding day she was calm, cool, and collected- just what we needed! Mill One was the most amazing reception venue we could have asked for. During the whole process, Michelle was always available through email, and checked in regularly in the days leading up to the wedding. The day of coordinator, Sara, was terrific. We had heirloom wine glasses and she made sure they were never out of our sight or scooped up accidentally. She did a great job coordinating all the vendors throughout the day, and always made sure everything was going the way we wanted.
The venue itself is beyond amazing. We only had to add a couple of touches since the space really speaks for itself. The floors, the brick, the windows - it's all so gorgeous. Our photographers had a blast working with the space, too.
Overall, I would recommend Mill 1 to anyone and everyone. It really was the perfect venue for our wedding day!

We knew the second we walked into Mill 1 that it was the perfect venue for our wedding this past September. Maggie provided us with an amazing tour of the space. We particularly loved that she referenced lots of personal details from various weddings…She really made us feel like Mill 1 cares about their couples! We were so frequently turned off by “wedding factory” vibes we got from other places during our search for a venue…Maggie was refreshing!
Aesthetically, you can’t get much better than this for an indoor venue. Brick walls, large windows, those floors…it is an incredible blank slate that you have a lot of freedom to customize (or not). Personally, we liked the venue so much we didn’t want to take away from it and have too much going on. The bar selection and bar service was excellent!
Their list of preferred vendors was clutch as we were out of state. We found our hotels, DJ, and caterer from their recommendations and were NOT disappointed in the least. All of the vendors also commented on how much they liked working with and at Mill 1.
I would highly recommend getting a DOC or wedding planner. Our Mill 1 event coordinator Julie was available for questions and such prior to the wedding but they mean it when they don’t decorate or supervise the event. The day of our wedding, she was actually training a new staff member and giving tours so she wasn’t available to help us out much... We actually had to hunt her down to ask for directions to places to do our first look and take pictures. In the end we managed just fine but especially for a DIY bride, it was crucial to hire someone to set up and make sure the day flowed.

Our wedding ceremony and reception took place at Mill 1 in Sept 2018. The venue and service exceeded expectations in all regards; specifically:
1. The beauty of the venue is exceptional and stands alone and needs little to no additional decor.
2. The manager's (Julies) communication tracking email system is thorough and keeps everyone posted on all communication.
3. Expectations and Options are clearly spelled out in writing and available right at the get-go.
4. The venue was set up exactly as requested on the day of the event.
5. The restrooms were clean!
6. The Mill 1 staff work very closely with the other vendors. Trust them on the vendors they recommend - everything was amazing! Overall - Very happy and highly recommend.

Mill 1 was the first venue my wife and I toured and we immediately fell in love with the space. Lots of old wood and brick. I highly recommend following their Instagram to get a feel for it. Julie, the coordinator was super helpful, responsive, and up front about pricing. Plenty of parking and a ceremony space on site made this place super convenient for our guests. Overall, we can't say enough good things about this place.

My husband and I had our wedding reception last fall at Mill 1 and have been receiving compliments ever since. We liked that the space had such amazing character but at the same time is like a blank canvas in many ways that could be individualized to our vision.
While there were some communication issues following a change in management, once Maggie stepped in to help us finalize our plans things were quickly cleared up. I can't say enough good things about Maggie, the work that she does and her individualized attention to detail. She helped us relax and made is feel comfortable knowing that the small details of our big day were in her hands.
Additionally, we also loved having the option of choosing vendors from their preferred list (side note: Seth Mias catering is amazing!!)
If you're looking for a unique and adaptable space for your event I can't recommend Mill 1 enough!

Mill One was very flexible about how we did everything for our reception. They allowed us to go in the day prior to the wedding to drop every thing off, and let us also go in the day after to pick stuff up with no issues or problems. They were great about letting us adjust the light levels, and let us set up our own stereo equipment and rented lights. Their prices for putting up the lights on the poles and the paper lanterns were reasonable and disclosed early. They do have a slightly higher rate for weddings than other events in the same space, which makes me sad a little, but the space is worth. Michelle was really great through our entire planning process. We had someone else there on the day of the wedding, I've forgotten her name, and she tried to ask me questions a few times (as one other reviewer stated) but we had a day of coordinator, so I don't actually even know what the questions were or if they would've stressed me out. Anyway, the space is beautiful and the climate control works great -- another review mentions there is not air conditioning but there is now as of June 2014. We had a photobooth in the entryway area and rented the furniture for the entryway area as well, and it was very welcoming and made a nice additional area for people to hang out. The bar seemed fine, we had an open bar with a specified limit set, and were refunded the leftover funds with no issues or problems.

Our wedding at Mill One was perfect. We danced all night and had a wonderful time. The staff was helpful throughout the process although it was hard to get answers quickly. From the tour on, I felt pleased with our decision to get married here. Even when choosing vendors, they are very helpful and provide a list of suggestions even though you are not required to use them. The venue is just beautiful and their renewable energy can’t be beat. We are truly pleased and highly recommend getting married here!

We had a great experience at Mill 1. It is a diamond in the rough considering its location, but many of our guests commented on what a beautiful and unique space it is. All the vendors must be brought in (although I hear that is changing and they will soon have an exclusive caterer) and the venue is a blank slate, but you can truly make it yours. Communication was great until the last week: the venue is going through some management changes that weren't communicated and some e-mails fell through, but otherwise it was very professionally run and a great place to have a wedding reception.

Incredible space!!! It was perfect for what we wanted our wedding to be and Maggie was great. We initially had started with another coordinator, but she left during the course of our planning. We had been told we could possibly come in the night before to set up if there was no other event and to take down the day after etc, but we were not allowed to do that despite no other events and had to end up getting a day of coordinator for set up, and had to take everything down the night of, which was chaotic as we had many of our friends and family helping, but not really what we wanted to be doing on our wedding night. We also had an open bar, but heard from multiple guests that there was very little alcohol in the drinks being served despite it being an open bar! That was very disappointing, embarrassing and frustrating considering how much we paid. I wish this had been brought to my attention at the time, but once we were told it was too late. Overall, we loved the space, but would recommend that every detail about timing is in writing, even if you are told otherwise, and make sure you get a solid pour at the bar!

The Mill 1 space is spectacular, and we loved having our wedding in such a unique venue. Michelle, the venue coordinator, was friendly and helpful, and she was willing to meet with us several times to nail down details, make suggestions, and answer questions.

Instead of an open bar, we were able to set a bar cap and specify no top-shelf liquors. We wound up spending several hundred dollars less than we would have for a true open bar. It was great! On the day of the wedding, Michelle was there when we arrived after the ceremony. She had the caterers arrange a plate of appetizers for us and offered to get us drinks. We felt very taken care of! The bartenders were great, too, and they were instantly attentive when my wife or I came over to the bar.

We did have a few issues. Our friend made our wedding cake, and needed refrigeration and time before the ceremony to set up. Unfortunately, we neglected to get this in writing, and there was a lot of back and forth: first we were told yes, and we used that as part of our planning for months. Just a few weeks before the wedding, when we were confirming details, we were told no, then maybe, then probably, and then no again (four days before the wedding!). Michelle was apologetic, and it was equally our fault for not getting everything in writing from the beginning, but it was a big frustration for us and for our baker friend. On the day of the wedding, when he arrived to drop off the cake, the building was locked! My wife made calls, and somehow the building got unlocked for him. However, a short time later, when someone went to Mill 1 to meet the florist, the building had been locked again. It was not something that I wanted to have to fix via cell phone while I was getting my hair done.

I would recommend Mill 1, because overall, it is a wonderful venue and an excellent value. However, I would also recommend making sure that any special requests are in writing and confirmed ahead of time.

The venue was beautiful and we were very happy with how organized everything was. We were unhappy with how strict the policies were and how there was always an additional charge with something so small. They are all about the money and not very personable. In addition, it would have been great to have more time to set up instead of 3 hours before the event. It was stressful. All in all our wedding was a beautiful day and loved the venue.

My husband and I were married at Mill 1 in October.

We fell in love with the industrial vibe of Mill 1 and are our wedding ended up being even more beautiful than we could have imagined.
The venue owner is up front when booking that all you're getting for the cost is the space itself, and the responsibilities of the venue coordinator are minimal. That's very true, so if you tend to be detail-oriented or have a hyper specific vision for the day, maybe hiring an outside planner would be in your best interest.
We ended up going with the flow, and despite a few hiccups in planning it ourselves, most of which is normal wedding stress, everything ended up coming together perfectly. For the price, Mill 1 is was a great choice.

Wedding day!

Beautiful venue. Nice staff. Lots of extra fees because nothing is included, just the venue. If you choose a caterer not on their list there are extra fees and contracts. Amount of chairs at certain tables weren’t correct, wasn’t very clear for guests as to where ceremony was and then where to head for reception. Not able to set up until three hours prior so we had to get ready at a hotel. Couldn’t bring any decorations night before. Had an amazing time at our wedding though. It was beautiful. Just got more pricey than expected.

Disappointing

Took days to get a response at times, during the event the "coordinator" was no where in sight and almost nothing went to plan. Though my guests didn't notice, I sure did. I was under the influence that the coordinator would be the go to person that kept everything to the time line. I saw her before the ceremony and at almost the end of the night when she said she was leaving. That was it. It was pretty bad, and we were very disappointed.

This venue is absolutely stunning. It was the first place we saw and everything we saw after just couldn't compete. The floors are stunning. With all of the exposed brick, you really don't need that much decor. The reception place is huge and accommodated our 135 guests very comfortably with a large dance floor. We also booked Mill 4 for the ceremony and again, the space is stunning. The aesthetic of venue was everything that I wanted and the whole day was everything I hoped for. Beyond this, the mill produces its own electricity using the turbines that ran the factory. Although this might not be a factor for many couples, it was for us. We were thrilled that we were giving our money to a place that cares about being green. The reason why I did not give the venue the stars it should have received is because of the venue coordinator. We booked the space over a year out with a different venue coordinator who was so nice and friendly. In between booking and our wedding, another venue coordinator, Julie, came in. I'm sort of glad that we didn't meet Julie before booking because I don't know if we would have ultimately booked the space. Julie appeared to care more about the tour she was giving the day of the wedding than our wedding. She was extremely unhelpful. She might have coordinated the other vendors well but every interaction I had with her was negative. She said she would coordinate the rehearsal - she didn't do anything. She said that she would come and get us when it was time for the ceremony to start, she didn't. We ended up just walking over because we were already 10 minutes late. So not only did she not do anything she said she would do, she was unpleasant to even interact with. Overall, the space is gorgeous and I would still overall recommend it. However, I also recommend hiring a day of coordinator and make sure you interact with this venue coordinator as little as possible.

The venue is modern and spacious. Perfect for a reception! Has like a lofty NY feel to it. When we first went to look at the space we immediately fell in love with the room! So for the event space we would rate it 5 stars. The manager on the other hand was late to our very first appointment. Not a very good first impression of her. She was not very accommodating with us. Expect to have to meet during their business hours ONLY! On our wedding day we were given a specific time vendors can go to the venue to prep. I personally think if you pay to rent a venue especially for a wedding.....they should accommodate you and your vendors but that's my opinion..

Truly disappointing...

Transparently- the venue is beautiful and totally matched the vision from what we could see... if we ever actually got to tour the venue. To say I am disappointed and was heartbroken is an understatement and we are just upset with how it was handled.

My fiancé and I had been touring venues for the past three weeks and we had Mill 1 in our top 3 that we wanted to see before we made a decision. We live about 90 mins away from where our wedding will be (Western Mass) so coordinating and scheduling tours has been tricky. Last week, we put a courtesy hold with a different venue since we are trying to get married in the peak season and told the other venue that we were trying to coordinate another tour with Mill 1 but would let them know within the week. I e-mailed back and forth with Adrianna trying to coordinate a tour. She was somewhat responsive but not very helpful in actually setting something up. I had asked last week about setting a tour up for this upcoming weekend. I hadn't heard back so I followed up her this past Monday to see where we were at. I heard back from her on Tuesday saying they could not make this upcoming weekend work for a tour. I told her we would be coming from about 90 minutes away for the tour just and I also let her know of the deadline we were up against. I will say, she tried to offer us a zoom/Facetime tour to help accommodate the time crunch. Finally I told her that my fiancé and I could try and make something work midweek but I have class at 6PM so would have a 530PM hard-stop. She told me that she could do 4pm on Wednesday 6/26 (the next day). I left work early and drove up to Holyoke, my Fiancé moved his work meetings around to leave work early. We waited about 15 minutes, doors were locked, so we tried calling Mill 1 office to see if Adrianna or someone was coming for the tour. Finally I received a call from Adrianna asking if I just tried calling the office and I told her, yes, we have a 4PM tour and she said "Oh really? You do? What's your name?" which told us she completely forgot about us. She apologized and said she had to leave early, which we get. Life happens but you could have called us and told us before we made the hike up to Holyoke but it was clear, she did not remember scheduling the tour with us. She wished us the best of luck on the rest of our venue search journey and apologized again. Honestly, if we wanted to, we could ask the other venue for an extension but then the fact still becomes we would have to work with her and if we cannot trust her with a tour, we were not sure we could trust her with our actual wedding.

We were SO upset. This is incredibly unprofessional and such a waste of our time. Again, the venue is beautiful so I will not take it away from that but the way it was handled was completely disappointing. I have never felt in this whole process like we had to beg a place to try and take our money until trying to set something up with Mill 1. It appears as though they do not need it...

Maybe it was just an off-day. I hope that is true since even from the reviews it seems like this place has great ratings. You may just need to double and triple check dates, times, and details.

STAY AWAY - Covid wedding

COVID-19 Wedding

We fell in love and booked this venue a year in advance. Due to COVID-19 restrictions put in place by The Governor Charlie Baker we were unable to hold our wedding as stated in the contract, a contract that we had paid in full.

We had to forgo our wedding becuase of the Pandemic and ALL of our vendors except Mill 1 refunded us and were extremely gracious. The owner believed that he was not in breach of contract even though we paid for a space for 50+ guests, a dance floor, & a bar which due to COVID-19 he was unable to provide any of those things. its NO ONES fault that these restrictions were put in place it just comes down to being able to provide what was paid for. None of us would have thought a year ago that we would be "social distancing" and wearing face masks everywhere we go.

The owner stopped replying to emails after we asked him straight up (so he would simple have to say YES, he can provide us with was was in the contract or NO, he cannot. )

We had to get our lawyer to reach out and inform the owner that he was in fact in breach of the contract & that further action will be taken if he continues to refuse to return our money.

Of course the morning after our lawyer was in touch with him we got an email back from John. This time stating that we could have our wedding at Mill 1 BUT with only 25 people inside or with 100 people outside at another location outside the building of Mill 1 (which by the time our wedding date came around was no longer allowed in MA due to further restrictions put into place). But that is simply thats not what we paid for and were promised by our conrtact that we had signed and paid in full. We paid for the gorgeous building and the ambiance it provides. Not something out in the parking lot with less than half the guests we wanted. John would still not address the fact that we couldnt have a dance floor or a bar.

He told our lawyer that he would give us half of our money back but only if we signed an NDA (non-disclosure act) so we couldnt inform the public on how he chooses to run his business no less how he chooses to treat consumers during a PANDEMIC. Our lawyer asked him for that in writing...we never got it.

Spoke to our lawyer today (7/29/2020) and we have to formally sue the venue, John had no response to the letter our lawyer sent over on 7/21/2020.

Today is 9/8/2020 and yesterday we finally recieved some kind of correspondance with the venue. We got an email from Regina (event coordinator) asking us if we would be using the space on 9/12/2020 for our wedding. Our attorney reached out to the venues owner John on 9/5/2020 to inform him that we would be continuing with our choice to not modify our wedding that we had paid in full for & that he could reach out at any time prior to discuss options but either way we would be continuing with legal action against Mill 1. We got no response from him. The email from Regina was fowarded by us to our attorney who kindly informed her of where we stood on the matter. Please note that Regina also mentioned that we needed to respond to her by 9/8/2021 (yes, she said 2021 obviously meaning 2020) so they decided to reach out at 1am, on a Holiday weekend, only 5 days prior to our original wedding date, and give us 1 day to respond, ONLY after the owner recieved notice that we would be persuing further legal action, coincidence? We dont think so either.

Today is Monday, 9/14/2020 - our wedding was supposed to be a few days ago, no word from venue.

Today is 12/30/2021- Yes, the end of 2021. We haven’t heard a thing from John Aubin BUT we got an official court date today. We will see him in court January 26th 2022.

Today is 1/26/2022 - Court was cancelled DUE TO COVID (ironic isn't it?)

4/13/2023 TWENTY TWENTY THREE- we’ve been to multiple court dates and John’s tactics have works, we’re exhausted new parents and we can’t do it anymore 🤷🏼‍♀️ anyways, a word of caution, stay away. We’ve spoken to SEVERAL other couples who have also had to sue the venue and WON (they got their money back thank goodness)

Mill 1 is beautiful, I will give it that! Michelle was helpful during all of our meetings prior to the wedding. I was very optimistic for a very special day. But unfortunately, when my wedding day came, it was nothing close to special. Instead, it was very uptight, unprofessional and quite stressful. I was bombarded numerous times, when the bride should not be the one bothered, about issues that should have been handled properly by the manager. I was left in tears and embarrassed in front of my guests. To top it off, after talking to my guests, comments were made on the rude bartenders and high drink prices. When you receive the packet initially from Mill 1, a list of the drink prices is in it. My guests were charged much higher prices that also varied each time they ordered the same drink! The bartenders responses, if there was any mention on the varying price, was.."you must have heard wrong" or "oh well, this is the right price",these were a few comments I was told by my guests. Even after all of this disappointment, I went to talk to Mill 1 about it. The response was cold and uncaring and we were called liars. The owner's response himself, to each and every issue was,"we will just have to agree to disagree" and would not talk to us further. WARNING! After you pay the overpriced $2200 just to rent the venue for 5 hours, you will have to pay $50/ hr for THEM to decorate with your own decorations AND work within their very limited schedule. The caterer that you bring in will have very limited space to do anything but a limited buffet because Mill1 does not have their own kitchen. Instead the caterer has to use a very small prep kitchen in the attached cafe, which is unusable until the cafe closes late in the afternoon! So don't plan on having an early event! REMEMBER your event is usually a special day for you! Do not trust it in the hands of uptight, unprofessional, uncaring critics who know nothing about making it a special day for you!
