Went above and beyond

I was in search of event rental companies in Oahu and dealing with vendors who either took a long time to respond or who didn't respond at all, I was beyond lucky when I stumbled upon Mike. Mike was so awesome and with barely a word and any compensation, he took matters into his own hands and called up all his contacts. Within 24 hour of my call with Mike he was able to connect me with vendors. If it wasn't for Mike, I swear I would still be waiting on replies. I can't thank you enough, Mike!! You are the best!!

Mike Bell deserves more than just 5 stars. This guy is funny, creative and very energetic. Made my wife and I very happy with how our wedding went because of him. Mike knows what he’s doing and is very professional. If you want your wedding to go perfect, he’s the man for the job. I was very pleased with how he kept the momentum going during the reception. We sat down with him prior to our wedding date and I instantly knew that I could trust him with our wedding. All the guests at our wedding had a blast and loved all the music he played. Very interactive and an all around great person. Thank you so much, Mike Bell.

If I could give Mike 10 stars, I would in a heartbeat.
Mike was our Day-of Coordinator, Emcee, and DJ for our wedding at Kualoa Ranch. That alone made me totally nervous because I've never met this man, but I was trusting him with ALL aspects of my big day. WE did have a quick 15 minute intro to go over our music sheet a few days before the wedding but that was it... full trust!

Mike and his team did not disappoint! Mike offered to pick up a bunch of our centerpieces and decorations a few days prior to the wedding, this alone was a huge help as my family just moved off the island and I didn't have a big car to work with.
The morning of the wedding my bridesmaids and I arrived to the ceremony location (we got ready on site) and Mike and his team was already there with music, playing setting up tables and chairs. His punctuality put me at ease so early in the morning.
He assured me once I got there everything will be taken care of, if something goes a miss, you will not even hear about it. His team met with ALL of my vendors as they arrived to the ceremony, they placed all of my decorations out on the tables, set up my flower arrangements, the food, the ceremony site, the check in table, down to placing favors on the table. May I remind you, he was hired as a DAY OF COORDINATOR. They do not normally do this for you. He was not my wedding planner nor my decorator. But he took everything I needed to do head on and took it upon himself to do it. With no complaint. No questions asked.
After getting married our bridal team hung out in the bridal room waiting to be announced to the reception. He went above and beyond and had Kelly (one of the assistants) stand outside of our door and brings us drinks and pupus when needed. He called him "Our personal concierge".

Mike spoke such powerful words at our ceremony. It spoke to both of us and brought about tears of joy. He used a lot of material from the questionnaires to personalize his anecdotes. I felt like I knew him since kindergarten.

Mike killed it (in a good way) at the reception. He played all of the music from our extensive playlists and made some good executive decisions on his own. When he noticed that people weren’t dancing to specific types of songs, he’d fade it and return to ones that brought people back out. He noticed that the Electric Slide brought a lot of people to the dance floor, so once things started slowing down on the dance floor, he switched back to the Electric Slide, followed by the Cupid Shuffle, followed by Cha Cha Shuffle 1 and 2. The dance floor was packed. And it was 25 minutes of non-stop cardio and sweat flying all over the place.

The photobooth was so fun. I kept looking over at the bar and thinking to myself that our bar tab was going to be super expensive because the line was long …. all night. And then I realized that it was the line to the photobooth, which was adjacent to the bar. Phew, that was a close one. Mike and his crew provided a ton of fun accessories and props. The technology was top notch and self supported. You simply click on the button on the screen, pose, and wait for it to print. There was staff on hand to add paper and answer questions, but it was super easy to use. My nephews and nieces had a blast.

Kortni and I highly recommend Mike for all of your wedding needs: DJ, lighting, photobooth, officiating

Mike was recently the DJ for my wedding just south of Laie, Oahu. We could not be happier with the quality of service Mike provided. Coming from Canada, we were nervous about planning our wedding from so far away. Mike was easy to communicate with and immediately eased our nerves. The day of the wedding, Mike went over and above in helping to ensure our ceremony and reception were just as we imagined. Mike was even gracious enough to leave his stereo system over night so we could keep the party going well in to the night. I am thrilled to recommend Mike for your wedding or other event!

First off I want to thank Mike for how amazing he is. He is so passionate about his profession and truly cares about his customers. Mike did an amazing job at my wedding back in March of 2016, even now I have people asking me about the "guy who Dj'd my wedding". He knows how to keep entertaining everyone while you are trying to make sure everything else is running smoothly. Mike is a top notch choice and I would choose him all over again. WOW!!! Mike Bell was the best DJ we could've hired for our special day. Even going into the wedding reception, Mike worked with months before to mix a special song for the father/daughter dance and come up with a must play list. Then as my luck would have it - I got sick on my wedding day! I was throwing up during most of the reception, but Mike kept our guests occupied and busy. There were a couple times when he had to cover for me - I couldn't have asked for anyone better. Everyone LOVED him. We even got my father in law to dance - and it wasn't the alcohol! THANK YOU MIKE!

Mike was the DJ for my niece's wedding and did a fantastic job! He had every song that we requested on our list and added some that went extremely well with the music already selected. Friendly, professional, and interacted perfectly with the guests. I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone planning a wedding or special event!

Mike was amazing to work with! I'm pretty sure he and my husband became best friends during our lunch meeting to go over the wedding details. The lighting he provided for the ceremony space and the reception space was perfect. He met all of our requests and was super flexible with the songs that we selected. When our 80/90's inspired music selections were not getting people on the dance floor we asked him to select the music...the floor filled up instantly! We had an amazing night and Mike played a huge role in that experience. I highly recommend using Mike for any type of event!!

Mike was early, prepared for our last minute mic request, every part of our evening flowed seamlessly, Mike is also a joy to have as a wedding guest, he looked sharp! He talked with our guests to adjust the music accordingly and kept our 'no play' list in check. Open Mike's lighting and rental equipment is also in great condition and worth every penny- our uplighting MADE the decor. Highly recommend!!

Mike Bell was the DJ at our wedding October 17, and we could not have chosen a better DJ. He made our reception flow so smoothly we didn't even have to think about it. We got many compliments from guests about the DJ and music selection, and if a requested song started to clear the dance floor, Mike was on it within ten seconds to switch to a new song that would bring everyone back and keep the party going. Our dance floor was full all night until the very end, and everyone had a great time! We wanted our reception to be an epic party, and Mike Bell helped us achieve this. John Shanahan did an excellent job reading the crowd and keeping them happy and moving at my wedding. Great song choices! I was extremely happy with his performance. I would recommend him to anyone!

We were extremely picky about choosing a DJ and Rob our DJ from Open Mike Entertainment was amazing. He far exceeded our expectations. We had a smaller reception (about 80 people) and didn't do all the traditional wedding reception items - he followed exactly what we wanted and our guests were raving about how great he was! He is very talented. At one point he was playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and I looked over and he was singing! He was so good that I couldn't even tell it was him - I thought he was part of the song. Our guests loved it! I would highly recommend Open Mike Entertainment to any bride looking for a DJ.

We rented the DJ equipment and lights from Mike Bell and they worked perfectly! He was flexible and meeting me for the pick up and the return of the equipment. He was professional and courteous. He showed me how to "plug and play" when I picked it up. I did have a hard time setting it up but a quick video chat and we were up and running. With technology these days were able to create our playlists on a phone and not worry the rest of the night. I would reccomend going with Mike Bell any time you need music that sounds great with or without a DJ.

You would have to be stupid not to hire them! Hands down the best possible service I could ask for. I called Open Mike Entertainment with only a month and a half till my wedding after our previous DJ took off with my money. He not only eased my mind but then offered John to be the Officiate and DJ. Having not met John before the wedding I was a bit nervous about how the ceremony would go. I had no reason to be. He was absolutely fantastic. He was witty and funny, and handled everything like an absolute professional. He then proceeded to clean up and move inside to DJ the rest of the night for the reception. He was awesome to say the least. He was a fantastic DJ/personality. He would be a GREAT addition to anyone’s wedding, or event!

We used Open Mike Entertainment for our reception DJ services. We had a small wedding but Mike treated us as if we were hosting a huge event. He went WAY out of his way to meet with us for an initial consultation and was easy to work with during the planning phase.

We cannot say enough praise about our DJ, John. He was so nice, and professional. His selection of music was spot on and our guests had a great time! He did a great job of directing the reception events and dances, and made it fun!

Definitely go with Mike and his team for your wedding! You won't regret it!

Mike was the best DJ we have ever hired! From start to finish he was extremely professional. Out of all the hired contractors at our wedding, we were the happiest with Mike. His wonderful personality and his goal of complete customer satisfaction set him apart. Every time I contacted him via phone or email he responded extremely quickly. His music questionnaire that we filled out prior to the wedding was short but detailed and was great because it made me and my husband really think about the music that we wanted at our wedding. He made me feel at ease and as if mine was the only wedding he was currently working on…which is definitely not the case because he is a very talented and sought after DJ in the area. His flexibility when faced with last minute changes speaks to his superior professionalism and excellent customer service skills. If we have any future events in the area that require a DJ, we will be hiring Mike again. He is very reasonably priced, especially if you consider the quality of services that you receive.

Mike was respectful of our budget, met with us via Skype when we couldn't travel to him, played specially mixed ceremony music my husband prepared for him, played music that fit our eclectic tastes for the cocktail hour, and gave us the most energetic reception ever. He didn't feel like a hired vendor, but another guest at our wedding, because he got along with everyone so well. He was incredibly fun to be around, and I will not hesitate to recommend him to anyone and everyone!

Mike contributed so much to making our wedding exactly how we wanted it, from learning a Stevie Wonder song in a little over a month to setting up a slideshow for our maid of honor's toast. He played live music for our ceremony and during cocktail hour, and then DJed the reception. He is a very talented musician, and we received so many compliments from our guests about how special that made our ceremony. Then, when it came time for dancing, he was great at getting everyone out on the floor. I had guests tell me afterwards that they had never been to a reception before with the dance floor so full throughout the night. Mike was easy to work with and did a great job. I'd definitely recommend him!

I had an excellent experience with Michael at Open Mike Entertainment. He not only set up a beautiful scene with lighting that matched my wedding colors (purple), but he also helped me organize the evening. His DJ skills kept us flowing from one activity to the next. The music selection was perfect and kept everyone out on the dance floor pretty much the entire night. I would definitely recommend this service to any bride who wants a DJ that will listen to what she wants and will make her feel like he's got her back!

My cousin was getting married and his sound guy fell though and Mike Bell stepped up at the last moment to not only provide a PA system but he'd decided to come and DJ the wedding and charged him nothing but a smile as a wedding gift. A total class act and very professional while there. He treated the event as if he was on contract which was extremely appreciated by the wedding party and family. I would highly recommend using his services in your future. Thanks again Mike. You're the best.

This is the 2nd time I have dealt with Open Mike Entertainment. The 1st was 2 years ago for my son's wedding and then we used him for my daughter's wedding. I am so glad we did. Mike does a wonderful job keeping the evening moving. He would go around the room and see if there were any requests. I would highly recommend Open Mike Entertainment.

MUST READ: To all future Brides and Grooms looking for an OUTSTANDING DJ
My Husband and I hired Michael Bell in July of 2014 for our December 20, 2014 wedding ceremony and reception. We met with Mike in person and hit it off from the very start, we hired him and paid in full at our first meeting! I have been in the hotel industry as a sales manager in the St. Louis area for over 20 years at upscale hotels. Through the years I have seen plenty of DJ's in action, and Mike truly stands out from the crowd with his professionalism and beaming personality. We had an absolutely perfect wedding ceremony officiated by Michael Bell, and an unbelievably fun and engaging reception with Michael Bell as our DJ. We had such a blast with Mike throughout the planning and the entire night of our beautiful wedding, with memories to last a lifetime!! The ceremony was exactly as I had imagined, I gave a few things that I wanted Mike to include in the ceremony, and the rest was up to him. We absolutely loved the uplighting & gobo with our names and wedding date on the dance floor. The music selections were on point with everything we wanted to hear, and requests by guests were quickly worked in. We had the BEST time dancing!! I am very thankful that Mike took the time to get to know us and our personalities. He knew exactly what we wanted and truly delivered beyond our expectations. We choose Mike as our dj after we spoke with and researched every dj in our area. We were very picky as the dj can make or brake an event. He was very professional and seemed to be as excited about our upcoming wedding as we were. He has alot to offer in his packages and allowed us to customize our package so we got exactly what we wanted and needed. On the day of the event he arrived early for set up and with his up lights and bogo lights tranformed our hall into a wedding wonderland. Mike got our bridal party pumped up before we entered the reception which was really fun. Throughout the night he stuck to our itinerary and kept us on track throughout the night. The music he choose was perfect and the dance floor was never empty. He even sang happy birthday to a friend upon request and if i knew he was that talented we would have haf him sing at the ceremony. We are so glad we called open mike to video and DJ our wedding. Mike was professional, early to the event, we were very nervous and he made us feel super comfortable and took some amazing pictures of us! I cant wait to have another reason to throw a party to hire him again. He also was very flexible and took on the spot requests for Spanish music from my Hispanic family, he provided friendly awesome service, we highly recommend Open mike entertainment. Mike did an awesome job DJing our wedding. He arrived at the venue early to set up, and kept the energy up the whole night. He was also very professional and helpful before the wedding. He met my husband and I for coffee to see what we wanted for our day and gave us exactly what we asked for. Everyone at the reception kept commenting how awesome our DJ was. We recommend Mike to anyone.

I knew right off the bat that entertainment was important to me. I’ve been to so many weddings with horrible DJs and watched how they just made the night fall flat. That was NOT going to be my wedding! Mike Bell and his staff delivered above and beyond expectations. Great system and lighting and, most importantly, GREAT personality. Mike really played to the crowd in a way that was entertaining without being obnoxious or over-the-top. Everyone told us was a great time they had, whether they were up dancing or just sitting back and enjoying the music. Mike created a great atmosphere for our reception – you could really feel the positive and energetic vibe throughout the room. Thanks again for making our wedding so much fun!!

We had a blast at our wedding reception! Mike did a great job catering to what we wanted. We asked him for a specific style of music and he kept the party going all night. He even took the time to ask if we were ok with certain requests from our guests.

Mike was great! We've got a pretty eclectic taste in music -- from the Grateful Dead (which he fit in over dinner) to old school rap (which he played at the end of the night) -- and Mike fit it all in. We had numerous guests say the music was the best they'd ever heard at a wedding. Not sure when I'd ever use a DJ again, but if the opportunity presented itself we'd DEFINITELY call Mike. I'd highly recommend him.

Mike was great to work with. He has an awesome personality and helped make our night special. When we went to cut the cake there was nothing to cut it with. He ran all over looking for something and brought it to us as soon as he could. He did a wonderful job with the music at our ceremony and reception.

Open Mike Entertainment was referred to me by a very well trusted friend.

Mike Bell provide ukulele prelude music, live ceremony music as well as reception DJ. He did a fabulous job with the entire event and appreciated his flexibility as well as talking with the guests and getting a great vibe from them as well.

Mike was a fantastic DJ! Not only did he work with us to develop the best package that fit our needs, but also was fun to work with. Mike played our ceremony music and also our reception. During the reception he kept the party on the dance floor and even played for 45 minutes extra. Even though our reception venue had issues setting up and did not follow the plan, Mike went with the flow and did what needed to be done to be set up in time. I would definitely recommend his services for any bride to be!

Mike did an amazing job making sure all of our needs were met. We were very impressed with the ideas he came up with when we lacked our own concrete opinions about designs and music. The best advice for couples is to keep in mind that if you want live music at the ceremony you need to do it a few months ahead of time. We were so busy that we did not get our music together in time to use him for live music. At the end of the night he was singing as he cleaned up and his voice is amazing! I hope that more people use him for live ceremony music in addition to their reception!

Great Energy and very knowledgeable

We hired Mike as our Wedding Coordinator, our Live Ceremony Musician and MC/DJ. Overall, he did a great job as our coordinator, however he was a bit disorganised on the day, and our officiant had to help direct people. His wife Maddie who helped him out was phenomenal, she took care of the decor stuff and we couldn't say a negative word about the job her and her assistant did. Pre-Wedding, Mike went above and beyond, allowing us to get things delivered to his house and making sure we had everything checked off before the wedding. His communication was exceptional, but word to the wise, when Mike says "We can take care of that for you" in reference to something on the day, what he means, is he can hire out a person to do it, for you to then pay, which is totally reasonable, just can be unexpected if you weren't aware. As a musician, DJ and MC, Mike was great for value and made it easy for us to get everything we wanted. Thank you Mike and Maddie!

Mike Bell was a very important person at our wedding. Mike played his ukulele/sang while everyone came down the aisle, the bridal march for me, and he was our officiant. He played live music during the cocktail hour, provided up-lighting and a dance floor spotlight, and then turned into my DJ for the rest of the night. I definitely feel that we got the "biggest bang for our buck" by using him.

One particular instance where Mike went above and beyond was when he found out I needed a new hair/makeup artist (1 month before my wedding). He immediately got his phone out and called a good friend who happens to be a professional cosmetologist (she does production, how cool!), and bam that problem was solved. We all felt/looked beautiful on the wedding day.

Responsiveness was usually okay, a few times I would not receive a response to emails but all-in-all he was a good communicator. Very willing to meet up to go over things or talk on the phone. The only true bummer was our dance floor light, my husbands name was spelled wrong. I thought it was going to be a big J (our new last name initial) so I didn't get too involved in the planning of it, and it ended up being our first names (which was fine), but Kaelin's was spelled Kalen.

Our wedding wouldn't have gone smoothly or been as fun if it wasn't for Open Mike Entertainment. Thank you!!!

I would highly recommend Mike Bell to our friends. Being mother of the Bride I went to a few of the meetings with the bride and groom, he spoke directly to them and wanted their input of what they wanted. I had a friend who helped me out with the day and she stated that of all the weddings she has helped with and attended he was by far the best DJ she has heard.

Mike was very helpful to us, and went above and beyond the call of duty. When he found out we didn't have anyone doing music for our ceremony, he downloaded all the music we had planned to use, came early to the venue, and did the music for us.

Huge disappointment

Mike Bell was unfortunately a big disappointment on our wedding day. First off, let me start by saying it rained all afternoon and evening during my wedding. As the bride, this was already hard to deal with, however right before my ceremony starts, iI find out that Mike Bell threw a massive tantrum about the possibility of his equipment getting ruined and threatened to storm out before the wedding coordinator told him no way! He was literally about to bail on the entire event (mind you he was the musician for my ceremony and the DJ for cocktail hour and the reception) This would have left me with absolutely no one had my wedding coordinator not stopped him. The ceremony for my wedding ended up getting moved to a more sheltered location because of the rain, it was originally supposed to be on the beach, but because it was so wet it was moved to a pavilion. Again, as the bride, this was tough, but I sucked it up and it ended up being amazing. Only one problem for the ceremony...Mike Bell DID NOT play the specific song I had requested play while I, THE BRIDE, walked down the aisle. I chose this song years and years ago because it is very special to me, and to my shock and dismay, as I approached the aisle to walk down....he didn't play my song. I was so devastated. Unfortunately there were several additional mishaps from Mike Bell too. My husband and I gave him a long list of song requests to play during our reception...he played them all while people were sitting down eating, so we didnt get to dance to any music that we had wanted to. Also, we had a Jewish wedding and I had given him a specific version of the Hora that I wanted him to play...and of course he did not. He played the saddest version of the Hora I had ever heard. Again, I was devastated. When my mom called to follow up on how disappointed we were with him, his maturity level did not improve. He yelled at my mom saying we were late on a payment so nothing was his fault and technically he didn't need to show up at all. For the record, we never knew we were late for a payment, all he had to do was send an email. As a family planning a wedding there are many vendors and payments you will deal with so its easy to have one get over looked. Of course we paid him in full several weeks before the wedding, but it almost felt as if he went into the situation already disliking us and not caring how our wedding went.
This is a warning to all, Mike Bell may seem super upbeat, personable and easy going, but the second he gets in a bad mood he is a completely different person. So if your like me, and happy to catch Mike Bell in a bad mood on your wedding day, he will have no remorse for throwing in the towel and doing a so so job on what is the most important day in your life! Please beware so you dont have to suffer through what we did.

Took our money without rendering services

In short--Mike Bell was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT and took our money without rendering any services. Called us "disgusting" for wanting our money back even though he was the one who cancelled on us 2 months before our wedding. Several of our vendors said they did not like him and that we were better off without him.

Before COVID hit, I chose Mike because of his ratings, his charisma, and his willingness to decrease his price to match another DJ. When one of my vendors asked which DJ we went with we told her Mike Bell and she didn't say anything, but she had this look that made me think, "I wonder what happened for her to have that reaction."

Our wedding was supposed to be in April 2020, but with the CDC gathering restrictions of 50, we decided to postpone. Mike said he would be able to do our wedding which we decided to move to September 2020. Of course things were still not good then, so we decided to wait a whole year in hopes things would be better in HI by September 2021. Come July 2021 we get an email from our coordinators saying that Mike may not attend the wedding due to him moving back to the mainland and not wanting to take any of the 3 steps to travel to HI. I emailed him if he would be able to attend and he replied it would be a good idea to get a backup DJ in case the restrictions wouldn't be lifted by September 2021. So 2 months before my wedding I frantically looked for a new DJ, this time going with a recommendation from our coordinators. Go with Crichton with The Perfect Wedding DJs. He literally saved us and is the kindest person who has a heart and cares for couples!

I emailed Mike asking for a refund since he was cancelling on us in which he stated we would not get a refund. I couldn't believe that he wouldn't even offer a partial refund...HE WAS THE ONE CANCELLING ON US! I then wrote back stating we would take legal action in which he replied that our actions were "disgusting." Really? You're the one taking ALL of the money without rendering any services (again--he cancelled on us!) and then calling us "disgusting." Really goes to show the character of this guy.

He then attempted to defend himself by saying it was for his safety (if it was, you would take any of the 3 steps to make it to our wedding)...but obviously it was about his greed. He wrote the date was a "courtesy date transfer" and nowhere in the contract did it say he needed to attend our wedding in September. Out of all of our vendors, he was the only one who used this excuse. Even if we didn't sign a contract with the other vendors of the new date, they still went by their word when they agreed to be at our wedding. This got me thinking that he probably had already planned to screw couples over which is why he didn't have us sign any contracts. If he really was planning on attending the wedding--and the contract is so important for him--then he would've made us sign a new one.

He also attempted to make us feel like we missed an opportunity by writing that he would've (yeah right) recommended to us another DJ, but decided against it because he didn't want us suing these DJs. 1) You still have our money for services you didn't render, 2) Why would we trust your judgment after you stole our money? 3) So you were going to tell us last second of a trusted DJ when you had told us to look for a backup DJ? Bunch of BS.

Do not go with Mike Bell. Completely unethical guy and not looking out for couples at all, only looking out for money.
