UMD Memorial Chapel was the perfect venue to host our wedding, from the picturesque chapel and outside view we were hooked from the get-go. They were flexible with us for the logistics meeting (both of us out of state) and our meeting was in person 4 days before the wedding. During the meeting they offered reserved signs with names of family on it which was great edition.
Ms. Denise, Jhanvi and Harshi were of immense help. We showed up late to our rehearsal (8PM) and worked with our wedding coordinator to help with the event. They even allowed us to run a little late for practicing. They honed in on our specific songs and timings.
The day itself went flawlessly, and we were able to get our couple shots outside the venue. I was able to request a last second song to play during the service itself and they had it covered.
I provide this level of detail to give an idea of how helpful this crew is, and they truly strive to make the day itself stress-free. I did purchase extra time before our 1.5 hr block to have time to take photos at the venue before the wedding, which I would recommend if you need (1 hour service, 200 people).
10/10 service from these guys and not given lightly. Thank you UMD Memorial Chapel!
Our wedding was in the Garden Chapel. The perfect size for our smaller event. The staff were very responsive and easy to work with. We kept everything super simple and straightforward, but they seemed like they were up for anything.

Perfect wedding day!

We recently hosted our ceremony at the UMD Memorial Chapel, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The price was incredibly affordable, making it an excellent choice for those looking for a budget-friendly yet elegant venue. For the value, it’s hard to find a space as stunning and spacious as this one.
The chapel itself is impressively large, providing ample room for all of our guests to feel comfortable. Whether you’re planning an intimate event or a larger gathering, the space can accommodate various needs without feeling overcrowded. One of the things we appreciated most was the natural beauty of the chapel. Even though we decided not to include any additional decor, the venue felt complete and sophisticated on its own. The beautiful architecture, and serene atmosphere provided the perfect backdrop for our special day.
Communication with the staff was seamless from start to finish. They were professional, responsive, and accommodating, which made the entire planning process stress-free. Whether it was answering questions, helping us finalize details, or ensuring everything was ready for the day of the ceremony, their support was consistent and reassuring.
Overall, the UMD Memorial Chapel is a hidden gem for anyone looking to host a beautiful ceremony without breaking the bank. It’s a perfect blend of affordability, elegance, and functionality. I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a memorable and hassle-free experience.

Beautiful and Affordable for Broke Graduates
I’m a recent UMD alum and struggled to find an affordable wedding venue for a large number of guests. Memorial Chapel was a wonderfully beautiful choice and had ample space. Even for those who wouldn’t normally choose a church-type space for their ceremony, I recommend at least touring once to get a sense of its grandeur!

Mini-mony at University of Maryland’s Garden Chapel
We decided to have a mini-mony at the Garden Chapel. It was a great experience we had with our parents and my two aunts, which we had the honor of one of them marrying us. We had to cancel a day before due to unforeseen circumstances, but the chapel staff were so accommodating and quickly helped reschedule the ceremony the following week. They made it simple and stress-free! They were also so sweet and had such a positive aura. I gave them a list of the ceremonial order and included when to play the songs I selected and they followed it to a T! Great experience overall :)

My husband and I are so pleased with the quality of dedicated customer service provided to us from the first meeting to the unforgettable day of our wedding. Truly, the responsiveness, professionalism and overall care of the staff whomever we dealt with, was bar none. I especially appreciated the call from Kait, the Senior Event Manager, days prior to our ceremony to finalize details to ensure the timeline was correct and we had not forgotten anything, allowing our ceremony to be seamless and as beautiful as it was. The University of Maryland Memorial Chapel team offered a stress-free, courteous and personalized reservation process. The staff is extremely well organized, knowledgeable and helpful, and they will go out of their way to provide detailed information on every aspect of the wedding, from the point of the venue reservation to the point of the execution of the ceremony. They patiently and thoroughly answered all our questions throughout the entire process and provided outstanding assistance and support. Amazing Venue and Experience!
The Chapel at UMD was the most fabulous ceremony space for our wedding. The space itself is absolutely beautiful, however, what made our experience was the team we had at the chapel. We worked with Denise, Salem and Kailey. They were super responsive and Denise specifically, helped us sort out a huge issue we had a few weeks before the wedding, and completely saved the day! Everyone at the chapel was absolutely incredible, and helped us every step of the way and on the wedding day. They were so kind, helpful and calming. The experience was absolutely incredible and I would recommend this venue to anyone!

My experience at the Memorial Chapel was excellent. The staff, made my wedding extremely memorable. They are patient, kind and accommodating. They were there to answer any questions, any time of the day and night! I knew I was in great hands from day one! The Chapel manager and the three ladies there to assist me are super professional and knowledgeable. You can tell that they love their jobs because they make it super easy for the bride and groom to have the best day of their life. And how could I forget to mention the beauty of the Chapel - both sides, the Main and the Garden. Either space doesn't need much decorating, it's beauty speaks for itself. As Terps, we were so lucky to be married in Memorial Chapel! The space is stunning and the space and gardens do not need much in terms of decor. Mel and Denise were so great at making sure we had the best wedding experience even during Covid. We had our wedding Aug. 2020 and it was still very beautiful and came out better then I could have planned. Originally we weren't sure if it would be better to cancel and wait it out but I am so glad we didn't! COVID-19 - Socially Distance Wedding
Planning a wedding during a global pandemic was very stressful. However, Mel Coles, Event Sales, and Office Assistant, UMD Memorial Chapel, helped make our wedding day memorable for my husband and me.
From our first phone conversation, she was honest regarding the university's COVID-19 guidelines and kept me posted as she and Denise Lorraine McHugh worked behind the scenes to get our date approved. Mel recommended vendors and was very hands-on throughout the entire planning process. On the day of the wedding, she went above and beyond to make sure my day was perfect. From rolling out my aisle runner, making sure I had the right music, to ensuring my 20 guests felt welcomed and safe, Mel was terrific. Her attention to detail was also a bonus.
If you are looking for a beautiful venue with impeccable customer service, I highly recommend the UMD Memorial Chapel to host your wedding.

My husband and I utilized the main chapel and we could not have been any happier. The venue itself is beautiful and can accommodate very large groups. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we were limited to only 40 guest. However, the venue went out of their way to ensure that guests felt welcomed, while still following proper COVID procedures. All of the coordinators that we worked with prior to the wedding and during the day of were fantastic. They made sure that everything went as smoothly as possible, and as a type A kind of bride, I was extremely impressed. All in all, I would definitely recommend this venue to other couples!

We loved getting married at the Chapel! We met at University of Maryland, and it was so special to get married on campus. We were married in the main chapel, which was beautiful. We had access to a piano, which was great for our music. The outside gardens were perfect for pictures, especially for our first look. Mel and her team were amazing. They were very easy-going, very responsive, and had frequent check-ins. She worked well with our planner as well. Everything ran smoothly. I would highly recommend!

The ceremony of our dreams!
My husband and I are both University of Maryland alumni, so we knew from the beginning that we wanted our ceremony to be held at the Memorial Chapel. From the very beginning, Mel was very proactive in reaching out with details and ideas and scheduling wedding planning meetings. I loved how quickly she responded to my e-mails and phone calls! Her experience with Chapel weddings made us feel like our ceremony was in very capable hands. The Chapel has a piano, basic linens, floral pedestals, candle holders/unity candle, all on site which was so convenient for us. It is a gorgeous chapel, and beside some florals, very little decorating is needed. Our ceremony was gorgeous and well run because of the beauty of the chapel and the awesome staff.

Mel. and the other staff at UMD Chapel were amazing to work with. They were incredibly understanding, accommodating, flexible, and just simply kind. My fiance is a UMD alumn so we were able to get an almumni discount but moreso than that, the chapel is gorgeous (minimal decorating) and the staff is excellent!!!

The memorial chapel staff were a delight to work with. I could not give them higher praise. They made my wedding planning process as seamless as possible. The Chapel is gorgeous! And, it really was just an all-around great experience!

The memorial chapel was amazing. They were so flexible, kind and so excited to have us. We were working around a scaffolding issue that happens once every 10 years (I know, just our luck) but they were very courteous and professional about it and offered us discounts for the inconvenience. We did a first look in the chapel gardens and they turned out amazing. My wedding literally looked like a fairytale because the chapel gardens looked so pretty and lush. They have excellent landscaping and the willow tree was perfect.

My husband and I recently held our wedding at the UMD Chapel and were extremely pleased and delighted with the entire process of working with the team. We cannot say enough good things about Mel Coles! She kept us calm, answered any questions we had quickly and professionally, and did anything she could to accommodate any request we had. I would recommend the chapel over and over again! My experience here was one of the highlights of my planning. We can't thank you enough!

My husband and I (both graduates of UMD College Park) recently held our wedding ceremony at the UMD Memorial Chapel and were extremely pleased with the ease of reserving the facility, the information provided, and the support we received from the staff. Mel Coles made sure that everything was taken care of, provided recommendations on how to best decorate and plan the ceremony, and assisted with everything on the day of our ceremony. We were pleasantly surprised with all of the help we received leading up to our big day as well as the day of our wedding. She was amazing to work with! The Chapel provided her services and the services of an assistant (Olivia) and everything went very smoothly! Especially considering we didn’t reserve the Chapel until 2 months before our wedding. Even so, I didn’t feel rushed or stressed at all because Mel was on top of everything. We would definitely, without hesitation, recommend this beautiful venue and their dedicated staff for weddings.

We could not have selected a more perfect venue for our ceremony. The Chapel was important to us as I am an alum of UMD. More specifically, Mel Coles (Event Coordinator) was amazing. She was so attentive to our needs and extremely flexible. Mel was quick to answer e-mails, phone calls, and complete follow-up items. In the weeks leading up to the ceremony, she made sure that every detail was ironed out and settled our nerves during the rehearsal and even on the day-of. Mel is a natural and will definitely be an awesome wedding planner in the future :) I recommend the care of UMD Chapel to handle all of your ceremony needs with efficiency and class!

We had a great experience working with Memorial Chapel!! The staff ,especially Mel was really nice and answered emails quickly. Since we were both Alumni, getting married at the Chapel was our first choice! The chapel is big and the inside is very pretty. We decorated the altar with flowers and some tulle, but minimal decoration is needed because it looks great plain. I had no complaints working with the chapel, we had our reception in the Alumni center on campus as well, so it was great to have the ceremony and reception very close to each other. Also parking was not an issue, we put a few signs to point guests, but parking is free the day of! I would definitely recommend getting married here!!

We held our wedding ceremony there last September. The staff there are exceptional and very friendly. Inside the chapel is absolutely beautiful especially the altar. They offer a discount to University of Maryland alumni/students and military. I would highly recommend this vendor.

Melva was amazing!!! She was there for me from DAY 1 and was always so responsive to my calls and emails. My wedding was everything I wanted because of Melva. We had our wedding ceremony at the Memorial Chapel at University of Maryland, College Park. Leading up to the big day, staff was very prompt in responding to our e-mails and rehearsal was smooth with a staff member present to assist with any questions or concerns our officiant or wedding planner had. The venue had the candles and stands for us to use during our ceremony which made it easier for us not having to worry about those. Everything met our expectations and we are very pleased with how everything turned out.

The Memorial Chapel at UMCP was a great option for us since we are both alumni of the school :) Pictures came out great, our day-of coordinator was super helpful and accommodating. The staff were also very responsive throughout the planning process via email and they answered all our questions! Great acoustics if you're looking to have live music too!!

I was so happy to have the chapel as my wedding venue. The inside was gorgeous! The long isle was stunning and made for such a dramatic entrance. :) We were assigned a coordinator for our rehearsal and wedding; she was great. She asked all the right questions and made it so the chapel was set up to fit our personal wedding. It really helped A LOT to have her there!

I absolutely loved working with the staff (specifically Janice and Rebecca) at University of Maryland's Memorial Chapel. The chapel itself is massive, with cathedral ceilings and seating for up to 1100! We only had 100 and it was still beautiful and didn't feel too big. I planned my wedding from Atlanta, and the staff was extremely responsive via email and phone. They were very prepared with all the information I needed for my denomination (it's a non denominational chapel) and really helped make sure I was fully prepared for the ceremony. The day of coordinator was SO patient with us and was ready with all the 'accessory' items we needed (stands, candles, lights, mics, etc). They even offer discounts for winter weddings and alumni, so it was a very reasonably price!

The staff at the Memorial Chapel did a SPECTACULAR job on our wedding ceremony!!!
The chapel was decorated beautifully with our decorations and the decorations that the Chapel allows weddings to use like the candelabras, unity candle, columns to hold flower vases, etc. Plus, the chapel staff was so friendly and attentive.
Most of all, we would like to thank Janice and Denise for being so helpful and understanding while we were in the planning process of this wedding. Their advice really made it easier to plan for this special day.
The Chapel is all white with red carpet and drapes which made my wedding colors, Meadow Green & Champagne Gold, pop!!! We could not have asked for a better location for our wedding ceremony!!

Before the wedding day, UMD chapel sent us a form to fill out of what we have and need for the chapel. The Chapel has very good organ system and works perfectly than a piano. Chapel allows to have rehearsal one week or a day before the wedding ceremony.
On the wedding day, there will be two assistants to help out during the ceremony and they did a great job.
Recommendation: Always pick out the organist from the list that provided by UMD chapel because they really know to set up the music and very professional.

A memorable experience
I had a wonderful experience having my wedding at the University of Maryland chapel. The chapel itself is absolutely beautiful, both inside and out—it provided the perfect setting for such a special day. The architecture and atmosphere made everything feel even more meaningful and memorable.
The staff was equally impressive. Everyone was professional, organized, and genuinely helpful throughout the entire process. They made sure everything ran smoothly and were always available to answer questions or offer support.
I’m so grateful we chose this location. It truly made our wedding day feel special, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful and well-managed venue.

Beautiful Chapel for our wedding day
We were so lucky to have some friends refer us to this place for our wedding day - not only is the chapel unbelievably beautiful, but also extremely flexible as well! We had a hard time finding a church that would accommodate us given that we both non-denominational Christians. At other churches you had to be a member or there were religious expectations involved. Here at Memorial Chapel they were very flexible, which is just what we needed! The team and staff are very professional and very responsive. If you’re looking to include a church ceremony on your big day - you should definitely check them out!!

My now husband and I were in search of a venue for our micro wedding of 20 guest in just less than 4 months, and this place was absolutely amazing, and affordable. Working with Mel to plan our wedding ceremony was a breeze, she was attentive and flexible. All our guests we're impressed with the style and look of the chapel Overall, we had a great experience working with the staff! The chapel is beautiful and thus requires minimal decor. For the price, I wish they would give you a little more time during your rental. Though I will admit we ran slightly over and no one rushed us. I highly recommend this chapel for weddings.

Alonn and I had a great experience at UMDs Memorial Chapel! Mel and staff members were very accommodating and gracious with us during our planning process! Our wedding day was very memorable and we could not have asked for more! Needless to say, we had a beautiful experience inside such a beautiful chapel, as well as outside taking amazing photos in the garden. We highly recommend University of Maryland's Memorial Chapel for your special wedding day!;)

Great ceremony location. Beautiful location and a great team who helped us to prepare properly for the wedding. The only downside was the sound . (The microphones had a problem; probably batteries were old so the mics kept going in and out.) I would totally advice couples to go with Memorial Chapel but be sure to test the sound before the wedding day to catch any sound issues beforehand.

Memorial chapel is a great venue to have a wedding at. It is beautiful inside and out. A little pricey, but normal for University venues. The staff was very informative and helpful.

The Memorial Chapel was a symbolic location to hold our wedding, as we met at the University of Maryland as students. All of the staff was tremendous to work with and always tried to do their best. We wish there would have been more time allotted between weddings to assist with ensuring all family pictures could have been completed in the Chapel. As we were leaving, the next couple was coming in and already starting to set up. I would highly recommend this vendor to other couples who are looking for a beautiful non-denominational venue!

I mostly interacted with Mel. Coles, and she was absolutely wonderful! She was always making sure we got the necessary documents and following up to make sure we didn't have any questions. There were a couple times when it took a few tries until she got back to my emails/requests for information, but most of the time I had no issues. The Memorial Chapel is a really beautiful place to hold a wedding ceremony, but keep in mind that the interior background at the altar and the aisle are almost a dark red color. I would suggest neutral, and light colors that don't clash with red. I also used an aisle runner to help balance the red out. Information that I wish I knew sooner was that there were pew clips available for purchase from The Memorial Chapel. Although I didn't need them anymore (my sister came up with a genius DIY for the pew bows), I do wish I had found out about them sooner. The garden right outside of The Memorial Chapel was as beautiful as always, and we held our first look there.

We are alumni of the University of Maryland, so the Memorial Chapel was a very special and meaningful place for us to get married. I think the chapel is beautiful both outside and in; it's a great backdrop for photos! While the schedule you have for the day is tight (we had the chapel from 3:45 - 6:30 for our 5:00 pm wedding), the staff is very up front about that from the beginning of your planning. We had a very short ceremony and no receiving line, so this was no issue for us. Besides, the tight schedule ensures that you have total access to the main chapel and all the chapel grounds (like the beautiful garden to the right side of the chapel) for photographs without any other wedding groups encroaching on your space. The staff was very professional and helpful both at our rehearsal and the day of. Overall it is a great ceremony venue, particularly for Terrapins!

All the staff were very kind. Unfortunately, there was a lot of back and forth to sign the contract. At one point, the staff confused me with another bride and it took several attempts to explain who I was. After everything was signed the experience was lovely. Our wedding day was perfect and the venue had everything we needed.

As it is the chapel on the campus of our Alma Matter, we absolutely had to have the ceremony at the Memorial Chapel. However, that being said, the staff really did everything they could to make it a wonderful experience. They were very pleasant and assisted us with all of our needs. Although, I think it was a kittle costly to rent considering we were both alumni, I think it was totally worth it and the pictures are absolutely stunning,. What a perfect way to honor the place where we both met!

My husband and I are both UMD alum, I used to work at the Chapel and we got engaged outside so it was a natural choice for our ceremony. We booked the Garden Chapel which is a good space for a small wedding. The Tree of Life installation added color to the space and meant we had to do very little in the way of additional decorations. The gardens outside are great for getting photos taken. The staff were very helpful and threw in the bridal suite to our rental for free since there wasn't a concurrent booking in the main chapel. The Main Chapel is more popular, but the Garden Chapel is easier to book and a great space for a smaller wedding.

Everything was beautiful and Jhanavi was very professional. They do things exactly how I asked and they were very professional and outstanding the day of my wedding. My only complaint is just the short amount of time we get in the chapel and that there is no flexibility. Other than that everything was absolutely perfect. If someone was looking for a ceremony venue I would recommend this place 1,000 times over again. Absolutely stunning.

My husband and I are both UMD alumni, so the Memorial Chapel was the perfect venue for our non-religious wedding ceremony. The Chapel staff were all wonderful and quickly responded to e-mails. The only complaint I have is that the time slots are quite short, especially for the money spent, and there is zero flexibility for adjusting your time window since this is a popular venue. The wedding party for the previous wedding was also still taking photos in front of the Chapel at the beginning of our time slot.

They were very professional, and the chapel is beautiful, but for the amount of money charged, I feel that there could be a little more time alotted for your reheasal and wedding day.
