We had our cake tasting with Grace and we really enjoyed the pairings we tried. We had a weirdly specific request for a cake frosted like a Black and White Cookie. We went with a small three tiered Vanilla funfetti cake, with espresso filling, and buttercream frosting (half vanilla half chocolate). It was SO. GOOD. Lots of guests were complimenting how great it was. McLains also provides a free 1 year anniversary cake so we got to enjoy our leftover cake.McLain's Bakery's reply:

We ordered a two-tiered almond cake with strawberry filling and a beautiful bark design from McLain’s Bakery for our wedding, and it was absolutely perfect! The cake was not only stunning to look at but tasted amazing—our guests couldn’t stop raving about it.
The tasting experience was also fantastic. From the moment we walked into McLain’s, we felt welcomed and well taken care of. They took the time to understand our vision and offered great suggestions that made our cake even more special. The communication throughout the process was seamless; they kept us informed and were always quick to respond to any questions we had.

Amazing experience!
We had an amazing experience with McLain's. Planning a wedding out of state can be difficult, but they were so accommodating. Everything from the cake tasting to reception was effortless. We wanted mini cheesecakes in addition to a traditional wedding cake and they made it happen. The cake was delicious and people could not get enough of it. Would choose McLain's again in a heartbeat!! -

My wife and I had our wedding at the end of May 2021 with McLain’s Bakery providing cupcakes and cake at the reception. We had a tall 6” passionfruit cake with buttercream frosting to cut and share with family while also providing three different mini-cupcake options for guests. We already loved McLain’s other bakery products, so it was no surprise that their cupcakes and cake were beautiful and delicious. We initially became intrerested during the early days of COVID, so we ended up doing a take-home tasting, but it was super fun. We went back for our in-person consultation later and felt so at-ease to have such a beloved local establishment handle one of the most iconic pieces of the wedding. The cakes were delivered in a timely manner and the quality was beyond reproach. Another perk is that you get a free anniversary cake after your first year; no more eating freezer-burned cake! I would highly recommend McLain’s for any occasion. -

Cake for all!
McLain's has got it going on! They were extremely responsive when inquiring about their cakes and the tasting was seamless. When the day arrived, the cake was delicious, coming from someone who doesn't love cake! The team decorated it exactly how I envisioned which was a bonus. I HIGHLY recommend McLain's to all brides. -

Their prices are stunningly low... which made me nervous about the quality. At the free tasting I tried the vanilla, almond, pumpkin, and red velvet. I loved them ALL. I ended up choosing the red velvet which I personally prefer with a cream cheese frosting (which I let the lady know) and they immediately offered me a sample of the cream cheese frosting (also delicious). They were extremely patient with me tasting and choosing and were flexible to ensure I got the exact cake I wanted. Couldn't be more pleased with this baker. -

Great Service!
They were responsive to all my emails, which was so helpful since I was planning my wedding from another state. They quickly arranged for a mini taste-test when my husband was in town, which was so helpful. It all tasted wonderful, and it was exactly what I wanted. -

Ann Sent on 06/10/2018For my daughter’s recent wedding, we did a lot of research on bakeries in the Kansas City area, narrowed it down to a few highly rated options, bought small cakes in the bride's and groom’s preferred flavors (vanilla and strawberry) from each bakery, and had a group tasting with 10 family members. McLain’s was the unanimous choice. The cakes and frosting were just outstanding. We couldn’t wait to eat McLain’s cake again at the wedding, and it was a huge hit with our 200 guests, too (glad I ordered a lot of extra servings). The design was simple and elegant, made even more beautiful with a spray of fresh flowers. And I felt the price was very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I strongly recommend putting McLain’s on your list of bakeries to consider for your wedding.

I showed her several pictures and she offered ideas, especially how to maximize the cake while staying within our budget. She gave us a tasting box with a couple extra flavors to make sure we got the perfect combo! They are professional, prompt in addressing questions, and well, not to mention create delicious tasting cakes that look amazing!

Only positive things to say- flavor were delightful and easy team to work with. Cake was devoured fast! We even asked for our dog to be part of the design and the baker beautifully crafted her out of fondant to look like she was peaking out the middle tier.McLain's Bakery's reply:

Great Experience!
McClain's made our wedding reception great! The cakes were beautiful and delicious and they weren't outrageously expensive like so many of the other places we looked. Would absolutely reccomend! -

We loved everything from tasting day to wedding day with McLain's! They made our tasting so special and were easy to coordinate with initially. There was some challenge with communication over the holiday, as a phone conversation was not followed up on properly. However, that was all totally sorted out! I would recommend email with them as primary means of communication. They were so great to work with once the kinks were worked out and even offered a discount due to the miscommunication! The cake was fantastic and the pricing was way less expensive than all other cake shops I looked for initially! We are so happy with our cake decision and have recommended McLain's to many of our friends!!McLain's Bakery's reply:

A couple of years ago, I attended a friend's wedding in which their cake was from Mclain's Bakery and it was such a delicious cake that last year when my wife and I got engaged, Mclain's was the first place we contacted! Megan (the bakery manager) was super sweet and incredibly helpful and was wonderful with her communication and the cake tasting was really awesome and no pressure at all. She and her team executed our vision for our cake to perfection!! As long as I am in Kansas City, I will recommend EVERYONE get their cake from Mclain's!!! -

We reached out to this vendor and tried to get a consultation/cake tasting for our wedding next year which is considered as one of the busiest months. She refused and said we have to wait to book a consultation as it is over a year away and there are a lot of things that can and will change in that amount of time. She doesn't have email etiquette and is very poor in communicating. There was a small miscommunication that was handled very poorly. Rather than talking through the matter logically, she resorted to rude, unprofessional and back and forth communication that helped no one. The emails weren't even addressed to us.
