We cannot express enough how grateful we are to have had Maura as our wedding photographer. From the moment we first spoke, her warm and friendly demeanor put us at ease, making us feel confident that she understood our vision for the day.
On the wedding day itself, Maura was an absolute joy to work with. She has an incredible ability to blend into the background while still capturing every precious moment. Her attention to detail and keen eye for candid shots made our album truly special. Every smile, tear, and laughter was beautifully documented, and we loved how she managed to capture the essence of our day.
The photos are stunning—rich in color and full of emotion. We particularly appreciated her creativity; the unique angles and thoughtful compositions made for breathtaking shots that we will cherish forever. Gosh, we feel so incredibly luck to have come across Maura and her amazing work. We got to work with Maura for our engagement session and also our wedding day photos.
A little background: The groom and I are not the most natural in front of a camera. We weren't sure how the picture part of this whole wedding ordeal was going to go, but boy oh boy did Maura hit it out of the park for us. From the jump , she made us feel so incredibly comfortable (and also made the experience fun!). Her guidance on how we should pose was so chill and helpful and she's overall just an absolute joy to be around.
Our friends and family were FLABBERGASTED from our engagement photos from Maura and our wedding pictures were no different! I can't express my gratitude enough for the amazing job and person Maura is. If you have the chance to work with her please do! She will be one of the highlights you remember from your day! -

I cannot recommend Maura more highly. Hiring her for our 11/4/23 wedding was one of the best decisions I've, honestly, ever made in my life. She books up fast, so if you're reading this, you should contact her, like right now.
When we initially reached out to her, she provided us with two full galleries of her work - one was even from our venue! Our engagement photo shoot was so much fun and a great way to get to know her. We absolutely loved everything about our experience - from our initial outreach all the way through to receiving our full gallery. She was so much fun, was genuine in her interest in getting to know us, and made us feel comfortable in front of the camera. Her passion, personality, and overall approach to photography are next level.
She's incredibly organized, attentive, communicative, and timely. We received 26 photos the morning after our wedding and got our full gallery in less than 5 weeks. The full gallery has sooooooo many photos - way more than we could have imagined! She captured everything we asked for and more & the quality is impeccable. Her ability to connect with others and truly capture authentic moments is everything you could ask for in a wedding photographer. Also - her second shooter for the wedding day, Abbie, was amazing and captured some incredible shots (their chemistry/friendship is also adorable and made the day even better). -

Photography was the most important wedding vendor for me, as your magical and beautiful day only happens once. I spent a lot of time researching photographers, paying attention to their editing and shot style, other galleries, and reviews. From the very first call with Maura we knew she was the perfect fit - she was honest and upfront about her ways of working, was prepared for every question we had, and was perhaps more excited for our big day than we even were! Our engagement session was one of the most fun experiences I've had with my now husband - truly felt like a date night along the lake that just happened to be photographed! Maura's energy and direction made it easy to feel relaxed and I find myself still obsessing over how those photos turned out. They made for the perfect Save the Dates, Wedding Website, and Guest Book images. For our wedding day, her energy was truly unmatched - honestly, she's the best hype woman! I also really loved her easy demeanor and go with the flow approach to locations, shots and general timing as it made every moment of photos feels so special and unique to us - a sacred part of the wedding day vs. something we had to get out of the way. Don't get me wrong, it was all rooted in a rigorous shot list, preference sheet, and timeline - which she had thoroughly memorized! My friends and family couldn't get over how seamlessly Maura flowed through the dance floor, capturing photos at every turn but feeling like one of the guests. I was sad to see her leave for the night - she truly felt like family! Her second shooter, Abbey, was also an incredible part of our vendor team - when my husband started to get a bloody nose during our first look, she didn't hesitate to jump into mom mode and help get it cleared up! And finally, Maura's turnaround time is insanely quick - on top of giving us tons of previews the week after! I think it was about 1.5 months after the wedding that the full gallery dropped - INSANE! I truly cannot thank nor recommend Maura Black Photography enough - her professionalism will elevate any vendor team! -

Maura knows how to make the wedding process fun. From our engagement pictures to our wedding day, every minute that Maura was there was a fun and memorable experience. She's so down to earth, goofy, care-free, everything that we wanted in our wedding pictures and on our wedding day. She became part of our wedding party and friend group on our wedding day! We truly couldn't ask for a better photographer - she not only slays at her craft, but she also makes the entire experience stress-free. She respected the fact that we wanted playful pictures and not posed ones, and they turned out beautifully. I cannot express how great Maura is, we would recommend her to anyone! Hire Maura! She's everything you need and more!
There are no words to describe how incredibly wonderful Maura is to work with. She's a kind, patient, TALENTED, and incredibly fun photographer. We're so happy we found her to shoot both our engagement photos and wedding. She was very thoughtful and helped us feel at ease in front of the camera, which was very much needed! Maura also answered all my questions (as an anxious bride, there were plenty!) throughout the planning period and was a very helpful source of information. Finally, her work is amazing. From having sneak peeks to us a day later to delivering a gallery full of amazing, high-quality photos in a timely manner, we couldn't have asked for more.

I recently got married and used Maura as our wedding photographer and she was fantastic. From our original conversation over a year and a half ago to our engagement session, to our wedding day, Maura exceeded our expectations in every way. The best photographer in the Chicago area!
Maura is the absolute best photographer we could have asked for. We selected her as our photographer because she was the photographer for my sister-in-law's wedding in 2019, and they absolutely loved her. Maura was probably the best vendor choice we could have made.
Leading up to the wedding, she was amazing at communicating and making you feel like a priority. On the day of the wedding, as soon as photos started, all stress melted away. She is hilarious, fun, and amazing at finding the best shots at the venue. My husband and I, and all my friends, left that day all wanting to be her friend. She makes you feel so beautiful/handsome, and her vibe is that there is nothing she'd rather be doing than photographing your wedding. We all had a blast, and our sneak peek photos are INCREDIBLE.
Additionally, I had a quick shoe emergency where a strap broke during photos, and she literally sprinted to her car to get some super glue so my bridesmaids could fix my shoe. She genuinely wants you to have the best day and will do all she can to make that happen.
Above and beyond doesn't even begin to cover it! Maura is amazing, highly recommend!! -

DO NOT HIRE ANYONE UNLESS IT’S MAURA! Ok seriously this woman is amazing at what she does. Not only that, her personality is the energy you NEED during your wedding. She keeps the vibe fun, uplifting, happy and gosh, I just love her!
She captured every angle. All the GREAT angles, ladies you know what I’m saying! I found this lovely lady off The Knot and I never doubted my choice, not once. There are lots of people to choose from and she was 100/10 the perfect choice for our day!

Maura is everything you would want in your wedding photographer…and more! From the first time we spoke with her on the phone, we fell in love with her. She was extremely professional, but also she felt like a good friend we’ve known for years. We postponed our wedding twice, and she stuck with us. When I called her crying about postponing again, I felt all of her love and support. At this point, we hadn’t even met her in person. Her personality is golden and she was a ray of sunshine on our wedding day, leading up to it, and even afterwards. Our photographs turned out so beautiful and we are very happy. Hard to pick which ones to frame! She calmed me down multiple times and just cared about me and my husband. Our families and friends loved her too. We can’t thank Maura and her team enough for everything she did for us. Book her in advance as she does beautiful work and is very popular! 100% Recommend Maura Black Photography
Maura did an absolutely amazing job photographing our Feb. winter wedding. She took time to understand what theme we were hoping to accomplish and took time to get to know my husband and I on a personal level.
She is 100% professional and really knows her stuff. We were married at the Cafe Brauer in Lincoln Park. She captured the beauty of the Great Hall as well as the joyous event of our wedding.
Maura was able to build us a custom package that allowed us to include an engagement session as well as wedding day photos. Her flexibility in creating a custom package to meet our needs was greatly appreciated.
I am so pleased with all our photos, and would recommend Maura to anyone looking for a photographer in the Chicagoland area. -

Then after browsing through the knot and reading reviews, I found her! Energetic and incredibly talented!!
We hired Maura for our wedding and she was a DREAM to work with!! Maura was so enthusiastic from the very beginning and kept in constant communication with us. Planning the photography timeline was seamless. The day of the wedding, Maura was a breath of fresh air! She brought so much fun energy to the day and was zipping around catching all the special moments. We just got our photos back, and they’re gorgeous! When we began the wedding planning process, one of the biggest challenges was finding a photographer who had the perfect mix of photography style, upbeat personality, and utter professionalism.
After reviewing Maura's portfolio we knew her photography style was perfect for us. It was the most beautiful balance of light & dark, modern & timeless, and fun & classic. After meeting with Maura the first time for a consultation, we knew her personality and energy were exactly what we needed to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Talking with her is like talking to an old friend. And after doing an engagement shoot with her, we knew her professionalism was of the highest caliber. Everything from how she interacted with us (and passersby) to how she delivered the photos was at the utmost professional level.
We were thrilled with the engagement photos - everything from the experience to the actual photos. We knew she was a pro. So we asked her to do our wedding photos, and we were so lucky she was available. The entire process was incredible from start to finish (even having to postpone due to the pandemic - she was so accommodating of our new date).
Come wedding day, every minute we spent with Maura was wonderful. We're not the most comfortable in front of the camera, but that uneasiness disappeared with Maura in the lead. Our entire wedding party and our families both mentioned how great Maura was, and how comfortable she made them feel. This was the experience at every given moment we've spent with her. Furthermore, her turnaround time for sneak peek and the actual full set of photos is so quick - and the quality of the photos are top tier. I find myself opening the folder over and over to look at how beautiful they all turned out. Our wedding was truly the best day of my life, and we feel so lucky that we have these incredible images to memorialize all the memories of the day - Maura captured them all. If you have the opportunity to book Maura as your photographer, I would jump at the chance.

Maura Sent on 10/28/2021Other than my groom, Maura was the best decision I made for my wedding!
My husband and I decided to elope in April of 2019, and we called Maura with only 2 weeks notice to have her meet us and do a two hour session! From the moment we met, she put us both at ease! My husband has never liked having his picture taken, and even he kept raving about how great she was and how much he liked her personality!
We loved the photos so much that when we were planning a bigger wedding celebration on our 1st anniversary, Maura was the only person we even considered! Like so many couples lately, we were then plagued with two postponements due to COVID. Through that entire process, Maura was nothing but accommodating and still so excited to celebrate with us just a few weeks ago!
Maura's talent behind the camera is absolutely incredible, and is reason enough to trust her with such an important day in your life. But her kindness and enthusiasm really sets her apart! I can't recommend her enough! -

Maura is an absolute treasure! Not only do we love our pictures, but we had a blast with Maura while taking them at our engagement session and wedding. Book Maura!
The pandemic completed changed our wedding plans. We decided rather last minute to have a micromony in Chicago to honor our original timeframe. We found Maura through the Knot and Wedding Wire and we were initially drawn by her affordability and responsiveness. When we spoke with her on the phone, we were further drawn in with her positive energy and knew she needed to be part of our wedding day.
Maura helped us put together a day of plan for photos that included times, locations, and people involved. She arrived promptly and assisted us in keeping all the shoots on time (as much as she could) and was so flexible whenever we made last minute changes. We felt so comfortable with Maura given her bubbly personality. She was a fly on the wall during all our important moments, but still available and approachable when we needed her.
She provided amazing sneak peek photos the day after our wedding- and the remaining photos within two and a half weeks. We will be recommending Maura to any of our friends and family that ever need a photographer! -

Maura is a DREAM to work with! Not only is she amazing and easy to talk to, but she makes you so comfortable on camera! My now husband and I are very awkward with pictures and we were so nervous to have photos taken! With Maura, we feel so confident and comfortable! We used Maura for our engagement photos, our small intimate wedding due to Covid, and she is also going to be capturing our second wedding celebration next year! She really has become a friend through all of this and has been so supportive of my husband and I. When Maura captured on minimony, she made us feel so comfortable and was able to capture so many small moments without anyone noticing! She is a camera whisperer! Maura is worth her weight in gold! She made our wedding day an absolute dream, that we get to look back on now for the rest of our lives. I came across Maura after a hefty search of wedding photographers. The big companies charged way too much and lacked originality. I came across Maura's website one late night and absolutely fell in love with her work. She had exactly the "vibe" I was looking for; journalistic photos with attention to detail. I booked a meeting with Maura to meet her in person and it went splendidly. I knew within 5 minutes of meeting her that she was the right photographer for us. We were hoping she would also say, yes, to us, as we had a whole weekend of events for her to capture...two ceremonies and a reception. Luckily, Maura, said yes to shooting our wedding weekend, and we couldn't have been happier. Maura is super flexible and accommodating. We met with her twice before our wedding to hash out the details. On the day of our wedding Maura spent the morning with me and my bridesmaids capturing the details of getting ready and the limo ride to the venue. We asked for a second photographer who spent the morning with the groom and groomsmen. Once at the venue we had both photographers capturing the special moments of the first look and our ceremony. It happened to be bitterly cold the weekend of our wedding, so our plan of taking more photos outside needed to be changed. Maura had the perfect spot in mind for doing photos indoors, The Chicago Cultural Center. These photos turned out INCREDIBLE. I loved the dramatic, art-deco feel they have. Back at the reception, Maura went off on her own to capture shots of our decor, and guests mingling at cocktail hour. During the reception she captured all the right shots of our first dance, speeches, and our guests on the dance floor.
I've recommended Maura to anyone I know who is getting married. She is so professional, down to earth, and fun. She knows how to handle a wedding party and make everyone feel comfortable. Without a doubt, Maura is the best vendor decision I made for my wedding day! -

Phenomenally talented
Maura is a PHENOMENALLY talented photographer! As a bonus she also radiates positivity and is someone you want to spend your wedding day around. We received a recommendation to work with Maura from friends and I feel so fortunate we did. From our first phone call she was patient, organized, and brought great energy. She met with us in person and had numerous calls about our wedding before the event to make sure we were aligned and comfortable. She also made recommendations for sites around the city to take pictures and scouted out our destinations before we went. She was so easy to work with! She took pictures of our rehearsal dinner too and arrived early to make sure she captured everything. On our actual wedding day it rained for part of our picture time and Maura stayed calm, changed up the plan, and even supplied umbrellas! The day after our wedding she sent us a sneak peek of our gallery and the pictures were beyond what we could imagine. I am so thankful we got to work with Maura and cannot recommend her enough. You will be so happy to have her as a part of your big day and to have all of her beautiful photos to look at for the rest of your life! -

When I hired Maura she was still starting off with her photography business. I was hesitant to hire her but with her pictures she posted, I was impressed with how natural everything was. I hired her about a year before my wedding. We talked 2 times on the phone and exchanged emails and she answered all my questions. She was very responsive and professional. When it was coming close to our wedding, I didn't know where I should take my first look pictures and a back up plan just in case it rained. When I saw the place she recommended, I fell in love! She knew all the right places to take pictures. My husband and I don't really like taking posing pictures. We wanted something natural and capturing the moment. She made that happened! She definitely is a ninja because she will take pictures in every angle and hide in bushes and will run to get the best shots. She is super friendly, sweet, outgoing and she has an amazing talent. Simply put, Maura was everything I could ask for in a photographer. Planning our wedding was a year-long process with many questions, changes, and challenges. I don't even know where to begin explaining how wonderful Maura was to work with! She went above and beyond to help us through our engagement shoot and wedding. We got "sneak peek" photos from both sessions less than 48 hours later, and the full albums in less than a month. We had a COVID wedding that was postponed, and Maura was extremely flexible and kind and encouraging during that whole process. Day of the wedding, she helped walk us through things like the cake cutting (one of the details we hadn't even thought about). Other than the posed photos, it was like she was a stealth ninja taking photos, making sure to not interrupt anyone or be super obvious. We've looked through our wedding album a few times now, and we can't get over how perfect the shots are! She captured ALL of the little details, all of our guests, and tons of fun candid shots that we wanted. We truly couldn't have asked for a better photographer to work with! -

We had to plan our wedding from Arizona, so it was no easy feat trying to find reliable, quality vendors in Chicago. Man did we luck out with Maura. From the first phone consultation to the last photo on the dance floor, she couldn't have been more helpful and just plain awesome to work with. Maura captured some of those little, intimate moments that we were hoping for including the getting ready pictures, exchanging of gifts, and first look. There were seriously some magazine cover quality pictures (see bride with her bouquet). Her personality is wonderful and she definitely knows some of the best spots to take photos around the city. She was on her A game the entire day as we took photos at several different locations in a short amount of time. A beautiful person and a fantastic photographer, we would highly recommend Maura! -

Wow…where to begin? From the first email exchange between Maura and me I knew she was going to be amazing! She was so responsive, helpful, and enthusiastic upon receiving my inquiry. I loved her photos and decided that I didn’t need to meet her in person before deciding she would be our wedding photographer…the vibes from her were just THAT good! Our great decision to go with Maura was further solidified when we had our engagement session. She made us feel comfortable right away, was incredible efficient, and most of all, made it fun. She also delivered the photos to us in record time- which made us so happy because we were so eager to receive them.
The months in between our engagement session and the wedding included lots of communication from Maura- we received resources such as a photography questionnaire to make sure we told her all of the photos we wanted and moments we wanted captured. She also sent us wedding planning guide that she created as a recently bride herself. It was incredibly helpful and thoughtful of her to share with us.
Our wedding day arrived and Maura exceeded all of our expectations (which were already high due to our experiences with her). She was prompt, efficient and remained fun and calm despite the many many large group photos we had. She stole us away during “golden hour” because the light was perfect and she wanted to sneak in a few more photos of us before the party really kicked off. I am SO SO glad she did this because she already sent us a sneak peek of a few photos and they are beyond gorgeous!!!!
Lastly, the sneak peek. We woke up the morning after our wedding and I noticed that Maura had posted a photo on Instagram. I was so overjoyed to see this (because I was sad our wedding was over) and responded to her photo. She told me to go check my email because she had sent me a sneak peek. 12 hours later and she already had a dozen photos for us to look through and we love ALL of them. We are so excited to get all of our photos back and I do not think that this will be the last time we use Maura Black Photography.

Maura provided an excellent service. We made the best choice to hire her as our photographer for our reception. She was very friendly from the beginning on, set up a personal meeting with us prior to the day of and coordinated everything perfectly. All of our guests absolutely loved her and her personality. I'm definitely planning to have my anniversary photo shoot done by her! -

We feel so lucky to have found Maura to photograph our wedding last October. After our initial coffee meeting, we knew she was going to be a great fit for us and she did not disappoint! Before the wedding, she did an excellent job communicating ideas and guiding expectations, so we knew exactly how to structure our day to get all the shots that we wanted. On the day of, she did a superb job managing all the planned group photos (most impressive with our extensive immediate families), documented the preparations and ceremony beautifully, and braved the wind to get some absolutely gorgeous photos of my husband and I on Lake Michigan. At the reception, she captured all of the important moments, as well as some great candid shots of our family and friends that were among the highlights of our extensive photo gallery. Nearly my entire family remarked how easy it was to work with Maura, and all were impressed by her friendliness and enthusiasm throughout the day! Just amazing
I am beyond thrilled with the beautiful photos Maura captured of our wedding day! She was so easy to work with and she made me and my husband feel so comfortable the entire time... which, since we both hate having our picture taken, is really saying something!
It was an incredibly long day for Maura. We had our wedding mass in the morning, photos in the late afternoon, and our reception was on a boat on Lake Michigan until midnight. I’m sure she was exhausted but you could never tell- the entire time she was professional, smiling, and accommodating. Our family and friends at the wedding also commented that they felt our photographer was so friendly, and that she did a great job capturing moments without ever being too intrusive.
She took excellent candid and staged shots in all sorts of different settings and lighting. Everyone is really impressed with the quality of our photos and also how timely she was at getting them back to us. We would highly recommend her to anyone in search of an amazing photographer! -

From our first email exchange and the introductory phone call to receiving our incredible wedding images, Maura was AMAZING to work with. She was very professional, collaborative, and honestly a pleasure to be around. We felt very at ease with her and she really took the time to get to know our goals and vibe for our wedding day and delivered in such a perfect way. She was prompt, flexible, and even arrived at the location early to scout some incredible spots in the area (Pilsen) for photo ops.
We expressed that we were much more interested in candids and a photojournalistic style rather than lots of formal photos and we were blown away at her ability to capture so many details and special moments throughout the prep, ceremony, and reception. We also took a few minutes alone as a couple immediately following the ceremony and she was able to capture some lovely shots without disturbing us at all!
Our friends and families were raving about her post-wedding and she helped us coordinate different transitions and moments throughout the reception with the venue and our DJ, which was simply above and beyond! We received our teasers and final photos in a very timely manner and the final product was not only beautiful but reflected everything we loved about our big day! We could not recommend Maura more and will be using her for all of our major life events moving forward. -

She’s very fun to talk to and I feel like through our communication before the wedding she was able to get a good sense of the style and tone of my wedding as well as the specific moments I wanted her to capture. On the day of the wedding, she arrived promptly and was able to scout out a couple of beautiful locations for our group photos, something that I had been too frazzled to do. Maura has a wonderful sense of humor and immediately set our wedding party at ease; I’m still getting comments from guests about how much they liked our photographer! Morgan Sent on 07/28/2018I've had the amazing opportunity to work with Maura twice now. She was the photographer for a friends wedding in 2017 (I was a bridesmaid) and I was so impressed with her work then, that we immediately booked her for our own wedding in June 2018. From the start of the process, Maura was exceptional. She was communicative and transparent about her rates and what was included in her packages. Her professionalism is off the charts! Leading up to the wedding, we were afraid of rain for first look photos and Maura took it upon herself to scope out the neighborhood to find solutions should we need it. As a bride, knowing that someone else had my back and would help problem solve for me was the biggest relief.
Day of the wedding, Maura charmed everyone with her wonderful personality. She maintained a great balance of knowing when to take charge for photos and when to step back and catch some amazing candid photos. Before she left for the night, she checked in with us to make sure we didn't have any last minute needs and then proceeded to take at least 20 more pictures for us. A few weeks later, we got our photos and they were absolutely amazing.!!! We honestly couldn't be happier. I'm not sure how to express in words the level of satisfaction we have with these photos, besides using the word perfect. She captured exactly how we were feeling that day, both in formal photos, and candid photos. Please, if you are looking for a wedding photographer, check out her website. Brianne Sent on 07/18/2018We booked Maura for our small Chicago ceremony this summer with just our parents, before our big family & friends party in Orlando in January. We chose her for her photojournalistic style, great detail shots, and because we liked working with an actual person instead of a larger company that would just contract photographers.
She sent us a thorough questionnaire and we emailed back and forth a bit about what we were looking for. We reached out again a few times just before the wedding to make sure everyone was on the same page, and she actually seemed almost too confident - more so than I was! This was my second marriage, and I had a lot of regrets from the first time around for not asking my photographer for more specific shots, so I was worried I might forget something. Fortunately, I had nothing to worry about!
She showed up a little early with a super positive and excited attitude and got right to work! We gave her a short list of the shots we were looking for and talked about some of the locations in our apartment that would probably be good to include. She got it all and MORE! We asked her to get a picture of my new in-laws' hands/rings together, since they had just celebrated their 40th anniversary, and I can't wait to frame it and surprise them with it!
She has such an artistic eye and is so personable that you feel like you're chatting with a friend. PLUS we got our pictures back within just a few weeks!!! I honestly couldn't be happier with her and her work! :) -

She was so flexible working with changes in the timeline of our wedding day, and was fun to be around all day. She arrived right on time and was professional and personable from start to finish. We had a laid back civil ceremony and lunch reception, and took some couple's photos before the ceremony. Maura was relaxed and fun, but still did a great job directing us for the couple's shoot and the group photos. Several guests commented that she was both enjoyable to have around and also unobtrusive. We got the photos back a couple of days ago, and couldn't be happier, we are so glad that we chose Maura to photograph our day!

She shot my wedding in Wisconsin, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. She was flexible, accommodating and produced amazing photos for our amazing day. Our wedding was in a public garden which was quite spread out and I'd imagine difficult to try and coordinate shooting in, but she was a pro and the finished product was amazing. She's a complete natural too - you barely noticed she was there during the candid shots, which are some of my favorite! Thanks so much, Maura! Couldn't have asked for better results!
