The beautician I originally was using backed out on me. I found Marlene's company about a month and a half before the wedding. I was a little uncomfortable because I never met with anyone before the day of my wedding. I spoke with Marlene who made me feel confident, but was still a little iffy. They arrived on my wedding day early and ready to work. They have amazing ideas and did a much better job than I expected.

My make up and my sister and mom's make up was absolutely beautiful. We had a make up artist named Ashley and Ashley was the bomb!!! Very professional and wonderful. She truly did aim to please and I was very pleased. Would highly recommend me as this company did not disappoint.

When we found out that most of the hair salons in our area are closed on the 4th of July, we started to panic. Then, we came across the Marlene Kurland Makeup Agency. This agency sends professionals to your home to do hair and make up. Catrice arrived at our house very early in the morning and she worked tirelessly from 5:30 - 9:30 AM to give four of us lovely hair styles and two of us glamorous makeup. Catrice was on time, professional and gave us all what we requested while guiding us with her extensive knowledge of hair and makeup expertise. I thought the price was somewhat expensive ($580 plus tip) - all of which you paid for before the wedding date. But, in the end, it was worth it. We all got many compliments on our looks.

I chose the Marlene Kurland Agency to do my hair and makeup on the day of my wedding. The makeup artist was very responsive and easy to work with and my hair and makeup trial went great. For some reason on the day of my wedding they had scheduled 1.5 hours for both my hair and makeup which didn't sound like enough time, so I told them I needed to be ready a half hour earlier and they changed the scheduled time 30 minutes earlier. The, I have no idea why, but it took three hours to do my hair and makeup and I was late for my photos. I also had taken a few pictures after my trail, but I forgot to bring them with me on the wedding day (I don't remember the makeup artist asking me to take any pictures). But on the day of the wedding she asked if I brought any pictures from the trial and I said no. My hair did not turn out as curly as I wanted it, but I couldn't afford any more time to have her redo it. But none of my guests knew that and they all thought my hair and makeup was gorgeous and it lasted all evening and looked fabulous in my photos.

I also liked that the hair and makeup trial could be done in my home, and they don't have a minimum number of heads, just a discount for booking more people.

Marlene Kurland hires makeup artists for your events and sends them to your house. My makeup artist was phenomenal. She knew exactly how to give me what I described and she was extremely pleasant to work with. She did my hair exactly as I wanted (I printed a picture) and she knew how to work with my skin color to really make me look good.

After a hair crisis with a vendor who tried to charge twice the original quote, we switched to this agency. For coming to the hotel, they quoted a much better price than most places. However, the day of was a disaster. The backcombing made my hair look like a spiderweb and she put hairspray on my hair before styling, which made it look strange at the ends. Finally friends said that I should just do it myself. Which I did, and it looked great. She continued with the makeup, which looked fine in the end, but I kept having her take make-up off--even though I had said I wanted a fresh look, she kept putting on dark eyemake-up.

These things are always variable...it could be the person they send is the issue, or that there was poor communications. I wouldn't rule this vendor out, but I would be sure that you first find a good review with the name of the person they sent out, and then request that person.

I am still in shock over this situation. I was on pins and needles trying to find a makeup artist and hair stylist late in the game for my wedding. I had been receiving emails from Marlene Kurland's Agency since attending a bridal show and decided to give it a try. It sounded perfect - they would come to apt and do a trial and then I could book and have them come out to the hotel where me and my girls were getting ready. Unfortunately things went from bad to worse after my nightmare trial.

First of all, there are many people working for this agency - so maybe I got a bad apple. The lady who came to my apt was certainly nice enough and she told me she had been doing hair & make up for 10+ years so I felt confident. When I had set up the appointment I answered all types of questions about my hair type (thick & curly) and skin tone (olive complexion) and what kind of look I was going for (elegant & natural w/ a loose, organic up do). The first bad vibe I got was that the tools that this lady had brought looked like she had been using them for all 10+ years of her career! It was also a VERY limited selection of hair tools. The biggest curling iron she had was a 1/2" barrel! She started to curl my hair into Little Bo Peep style curls and pinning them into a very formal and tight up do (the OPPOSITE of what I wanted - even after I showed her multiple pictures of the styles I liked). When I stopped her part way through she seemed defensive and tried to tell me that this was how bridal hair should look! Um - what??? So I show her my curling iron / hot rollers which are all much larger barrels and can provide much looser and natural looking curls. She said that I could bring all of that to the hotel and she would use my tools instead!

So then we start the make up. I showed her my own makeup to give her an idea of what colors I use and am comfortable with, as well as additional pics of make up that I liked. She was able to match foundation to me and give an adequate "base" to my face but that is where the good news ends. She started using all pink, shimmer tones for my lips, cheeks and eyes and lets just say that pinky pink on olive skin does NOT work. My lipstick was straight 1987 pink frosted lipstick and to top it of - my eyes (again bright pink shimmer tones) were lined w/ black liquid eyeliner which was fine and looked okay until she then outlined that with WHITE eyliner! I actually looked like a hooker! I was so upset but trying to be nice about it as she was telling me again that this was very "bridal" makeup. Finally she left in a whirlwind when she realized she was running late.

My (now husband) came home shortly after and actually GASPED when he saw me because she had made me look so unbelievable! It was so cartoonish!

Of course I called the next morning to cancel my reservation. I understood that I was still to be charged $150 for the trial (too much if you ask me, but it seems to be the going rate and I was running out of time). I get my credit card statement when I come back from our honeymoon about a month after the initial trial and see a charge from the Marlene Kurland Agency for $475?!?!?!?!!!! I immediately called and left a message. I did receive a call back from Marlene and was assured that this would be taken care of and a refund would be issued to me in the amount of $325.

Next month I have two credits on my credit card, one for $150 and one for $75. Now math isn't my strongest suit, but I know that still leaves $100 owed to me. This has now been dragging on for 6 weeks. I call and leave voice mails. I send emails. Finally I get an email back that it will be processed first thing after Thanksgiving. I check my online statement and see that $75 has been credited, still not the full $100!!! I have sent multiple emails after and feel like at this point I will just never see that last $25 dollars. I know it isn't a lot of money - but at this point it is just the principle of the matter. At least I can hopefully warn brides from ever using Marlene Kurland's Agency. It has just been a terrible experience start to finish at a point in my life where added stress, not to mention an extra $100 on my credit card collecting interest were needed.
