On the day itself, she was calm, professional, fun and somehow everywhere without ever being intrusive. She captured not only how our wedding looked, but how it felt- the quiet, emotional moments, the laughter, the chaos, the joy. Looking through our gallery feels like reliving the day all over again.

We truly cannot put into words how grateful we are to have worked with Maria. From our very first phone call, she felt like an old friend. In the months leading up to our wedding, she took the time to meet with us and truly understand our vision, making sure she knew exactly what mattered most to us. We chose not to do a first look, and Maria worked with us to thoughtfully plan the timeline so that we could still capture all of the photos we had hoped for without feeling rushed or missing a moment.
Her calm, reassuring presence—along with her ability to keep up with my husband’s endless jokes—put us completely at ease and made the entire experience so fun. Maria has an incredible gift for capturing moments in the most natural and genuine way. Her photos portray our personalities perfectly, and her attention to every detail meant nothing was missed. Every part of working with Maria was a dream. From the first call, to our engagement photoshoot, to the wedding day, Maria was extremely attentive and patient with everything and everyone! Even once our engagement shoot went from a beach sunset to rain and fog, Maria still made sure the photos came out absolutely beautifully. Maria made sure the wedding day ran smoothly, and was incredibly patient with all of our friends and family. The wedding day photos are stunning and captured every memory so perfectly. Our engagement session with Maria was such a special experience! From the moment we met her at the beach, she made us feel completely at ease. We spent the afternoon laughing, having fun, and just being ourselves as we moved between the beach and Ida Lewis Yacht Club. My fiancé normally isn’t a big fan of taking photos, but by the end of the session, he was LOVING it and couldn’t stop talking about how much fun he had!
Maria has this amazing way of blending professionalism with warmth and genuine connection. She guided us effortlessly while still letting our natural chemistry shine through, and the photos turned out absolutely stunning, full of light, love, and personality, with the perfect mix of coastal beauty and romance.

My husband and I were lucky enough to work with Maria for our May 2025 wedding, and she absolutely crushed it. From our very first introduction call, Maria was kind, thoughtful, and incredibly helpful, walking us through the process and talking through all our options with ease and care.
A few months later, we had our engagement session, which was such a fun and memorable experience! Maria was open to all of our ideas, even when that meant hopping onto a sailboat in Newport Harbor (highly recommend)! She made both of us, two camera-shy people, feel totally at ease, and we had a blast.
As our wedding approached, Maria created a detailed and organized photo timeline that was incredibly helpful, not just for us, but for all of our vendors. She worked closely with us to understand which moments and shots mattered most, helping us maximize our time on the big day.
On the wedding day itself, Maria was nothing short of amazing. She arrived early, captured every moment beautifully, and somehow managed to organize our big families for group photos without a hitch. Because Maria was so well-prepared and in control of the schedule, we were able to relax and truly enjoy our day knowing we were in great hands.
One of the most meaningful moments came just before our outdoor ceremony when the weather turned, pouring rain and heavy wind. As venue staff asked me to make a last-minute call about moving the ceremony indoors, I looked to Maria. Her calm, reassuring presence made all the difference. She told me it would be beautiful either way and was ready to shoot rain or shine. We stuck with our outdoor plan, and just in time, the rain cleared for a stunning ceremony and first look. I’ll never forget how comforting and reassuring she was in that moment.
Shortly after the wedding Maria sent us a sneak peek of our photos, and they are absolutely breathtaking. Our friends and family can’t stop talking about how stunning they are. Her style is classic and timeless, yet bright and joyful. We truly couldn’t have asked for anything more.

It’s hard to put into words how truly amazing Maria is. If she happens to have availability for your wedding, take this as your sign to book her immediately!
My sister and I were planning our weddings for 2023 and 2024, and I first had the pleasure of meeting Maria when she photographed my sister’s wedding in Newport, RI. I vividly remember helping my sister choose her photographer—she had several great options, but it was clear that Maria’s couple- and family-focused vision was the perfect match to capture her big day. After seeing the stunning engagement photos Maria took of my sister and her now husband, I knew I needed to do whatever it took to have her photograph my own wedding.
Meeting Maria in person at my sister’s wedding only confirmed this. I was blown away by her calm, capable, and commanding presence. She impressively organized large groups for photos—despite a bit of rain—without missing a single shot, and she did it all with ease, never adding stress to the day.
Fast forward a few months to our engagement shoot, and my husband and I had the absolute best day with Maria. We planned all sorts of fun, spontaneous ideas—posing as if we were playing golf, eating ice cream, driving a 1970s Mercedes, and even jumping into the ocean. Maria’s up-for-anything attitude turned the shoot into one of the highlights of our wedding planning, and her creativity shone through in every photo.
Maria has become like family to us through these weddings, and I truly can’t imagine trusting anyone else to capture such meaningful moments. She did an extraordinary job at our wedding, thoughtfully coordinating several calls beforehand (and showing incredible patience with me, an admittedly disorganized bride!). Now that I’ve received our wedding photos, I’m in awe. Maria and her assistant Morgan captured the day so beautifully, preserving memories that we’ll cherish forever. We couldn't have asked for a better experience with Maria as our wedding photographer! From our very first meeting, Maria was warm, personable, and incredibly easy to work with. She immediately put us at ease during our engagement session, and we felt right away that she genuinely cared about us and was going to be a wonderful addition to our day. She took the time to get to know us, and it showed in every photo.

Quite simply Maria is the BEST OF THE BEST! Maria photographed our June wedding in Newport, RI, and was an absolute joy to work with. From our first interaction over the phone, to our incredibly fun and laidback engagement session at the Cliff Walk, to our wedding day at The Bohlin in Newport - Maria was the loveliest person to be around and her photos beautifully captured the joy of the day. Not only was she extremely organized leading up to the wedding and a calming, capable presence during the day itself - she took the time to learn our family member's names and kept our entire (large) wedding party AHEAD of schedule! She personally knows the Newport area so well so she was able to recommend the perfect locations for our wedding portraits (avoiding the crowded touristy areas). Only 3 days after our wedding she sent us the most BEAUTIFUL sneak peek shots before we left for our honeymoon. Maria's photos truly brought us to tears and beautifully captured every little detail of the happiest day of our lives. -

Maria is SIMPLY THE BEST! I cannot recommend her enough. I came across Maria Burton through my photographer search after looking for days and days for the right fit and speaking with many photographers. I immediately fell in love with her natural light and beachy style on Instagram. Even though I couldn’t meet Maria in person, through our phone conversation I enjoyed her calm demeanor and the amazing fact that she is BOTH creative and HYPER organized. I was incredibly impressed by my initial phone call with her and this was just the beginning of realizing how amazing she was! She even helped me find other vendors including my month of planner and florist… she is super knowledgeable about other vendors and everyone she recommended were also incredible to work with!
Leading up to the wedding, because we live far away we couldn’t meet Maria until a few months before our wedding for our engagement photoshoot. When scheduling, we were dealing with tricky weather. Maria has plans A, B, C and D for all weather conditions and was incredible at communicating via email/text leading up to the session. When I ultimately made the decision to postpone, Maria offered to meet in person to get to know each other and go through our schedule and key pictures… she went above and beyond to make this meeting happen and was so comforting for my Type A self!
In terms of organization, Maria put together a precise schedule with our planner and had all of our “must have” shots down. Throughout the wedding weekend Maria kept us on time (but in a calming/not demanding way). She managed to fit in our entire shot list of the “must haves” and even found a way to get our “nice to have” shots… which is SUPER impressive given we had a wedding party of 20+ people and 20+ family members. We got to enjoy every minute of our wedding because we were on time, including attending our cocktail hour. Just like our engagement session, she had plans A, B, and C for all weather types and was super helpful in putting together ideas for a great shot location list.
I was super nervous about being awkward in front of the camera but Maria has an incredible way of putting couples at ease. She actually made us laugh and be super comfortable in front of the camera. Quite simply she is someone you want to hang out with on your wedding day. She has an amazing sense of humor and very calming demeanor.
In terms of the output… the photos are STUNNING! I get so many compliments on her photos. They are incredibly timeless, natural, and just so New England! She is great at capturing both posed (but they look very natural) and candid photos. Her and her assistant also managed to take incredible pictures of so many guests… it was really fun to review the huge gallery of photos after the wedding because we got to see some moments that we missed but she managed to capture. If you are wavering, I highly recommend you go with Maria… she is the best! -

Maria was hired to photograph my Rhode Island wedding. I had full trust and confidence in Maria from the start and she fully delivered on all my expectations. We woke up the morning after our wedding and Maria had already delivered 20+ pictures to our e-mail and within 2 weeks after the wedding we had 175+ photos of our day! Maria was timely, organized and got all the photos requested. Maria was also helpful during the wedding planning process providing recommendations of other vendors who helped suit the vibe I was looking for hair/make up, DJ, etc! Maria was such a wonderful photographer from start to finish. We had a great scoping call where we made initial plans and she answered all of my bride panic questions with confidence and ease.
On the weekend of our wedding she managed to work with changes to our plan, multiple venues, and other vendors in such a collaborative way. She knew every member of our bridal party's name and got every shot that we requested (and about 9 million more that we love as well).
The final results are engagement, welcome party, and wedding photos that we will cherish for a lifetime. I'm already excited to work with Maria on eventual family and maternity shoots when the time comes. -

Look no further!!
It is hard to put into words what Maria was able to give to us by being our wedding photographer. From the very first time we spoke, I could tell her style would jive well with mine. Calm, thoughtful, and obviously captured beautiful shots. Maria did a few of my girlfriends weddings already, so I knew her work was fantastic. But what I most appreciated was her calm nature, ability to keep everything moving, incredible talent of remembering everyone's names (!), and just general demeanor on the day of. I was a bit nervous, and also didn't have a wedding planner - so having Maria there for almost every step of the day was so helpful. At one point in the day, she urged us to do sunset photos. In the moment, I wasn't sure I wanted to pull away from the celebration, but THANK GOD she prompted us to do them. These would be the MOST beautiful shots of the day - and she knew it. I cannot recommend Maria enough. If you are looking for a calm, sweet, and incredibly talented photographer that will leave you in complete awe at your photos and perfect memories of the day, look no further. -

Maria was PHENOMENAL throughout the entire process. We booked her for our engagement photos + wedding way back in 2019. I was thrilled with how our engagement photos came out. I told her my vision and that I wanted our dog to be included. I even asked for some location suggestions - and we picked the most beautiful little spot in Padanaram, MA. Then COVID hit and we had to postpone our wedding. She continued to check in and make plans for our new 2021 wedding date. She was extremely professional, organized and so easy to work with! Our wedding party was floored that she took the time to learn their names too! She is so quick with getting the photos back, and I really appreciate the sneak peeks that she sent a few days after the event. The BEST decision was hiring her to capture our special day - I would recommend her over and over again -

Maria brings so much more than just a camera to your big day!
I cannot say enough good things about Maria and recommend every work with her. I saw a previous wedding she had shot and just knew we had to have her. She truly makes every single wedding look sunny, joyous and magical. We also wanted someone who would keep us calm and roll with any last minute schedule changes which believe me, we had plenty. She totally delivered from making our chilly windy engagement pictures look great, postponing our official reception by a year, and also taking the time to shoot our elopement with only four days notice. With each session her turnaround time was stellar and they came out better than expected. My husband and I are both so appreciative to have had Maria as a part of our wedding day and our pictures could not be more perfect! -

Everyone who knows my husband and I have heard us talk about just how amazing to work with and truly talent Maria is! We are so so so in love with the pictures from our wedding. Absolutely everything we could have asked for (and then some) was captured. Maria helped us to have such a blast on our wedding day while helping to keep our families on schedule. In comparison to other people’s wedding photos that I know, ours were on a whole different level, both in the quality, comfort level, and quantity of what was captured. We choose Maria and her assistant for our wedding and we could not be happier! My husband and I were going to skip engagement photos, but we are so glad Maria encouraged us to take them. She is so personable and kept us laughing during the entire photoshoot, she made the shoot so fun and she look unique poses and some classics, but nothing cheesy! For the wedding she was beyond helpful recommending different family shots and she helped us keep on schedule so we would not miss any of the cocktail party. Maria was available anytime I emailed or called her, she made you feel as if you were here only client, even though you can tell by her instagram, she has so many clients, and returning clients! I can’t say enough good things about working with Maria! We booked her for our wedding this past June, after she was recommended by another friend whose wedding she photographed, and it was a great experience from start to finish. She is very organized and communicative, and we always felt we were on the same page and in good hands. We’re not very comfortable in front of the camera, but Maria has such a warm personality that it’s impossible not to relax around her. We both have big families and different friend groups, so we had a list of different group photo requests and family photo combos. Maria was focused on the wedding day and got all the photos we requested. Not only did she get the content, she brought a beautiful touch to it, and we are so happy with how the photos turned out. Maria Rocks!
We had such an incredible experience with Maria as our wedding photographer! We live in CA and got married on the east coast so finding a photographer to trust at a reasonable price point was difficult! We found Maria and after talking to be one time I knew she was the photographer for us. She was so responsive and helpful when I had weird questions! I could not recommend her more! Maria is an exceptionally talented photographer and a wonderful person! She was an absolute joy to have with us on our wedding day and she captured every single precious memory! Kaitlyn Sent on 01/28/2018I am so glad we chose Maria to be our engagement and wedding photographer!! We first met in person for our engagement shoot and she was so friendly, laid back, and easy to work with that it made the potentially awkward engagement session feel natural and lots of fun! By the end of the shoot we were very comfortable with her and excited to go forward with her as our wedding photographer. Our wedding was on New Year’s Eve in Newport and of course Mother Nature was not going to go easy on us. With the temperature predicted to be 14 degrees (not counting the wind chill), I called Maria a few days before in a semi-panic about how we were going to get the outdoor pictures we wanted and she stayed on the phone with me for probably 20 minutes, reassuring me about our plans and back up plans and that everything would work out, and it did! The day of the wedding, Maria was bundled up and prepared to take on the challenge of photographing us outside in frigid conditions. She was able to get some amazing pictures of my husband and I, as well as corral our freezing cold and rambunctious bridal party into cooperation long enough to snag some amazing pictures of all of us! The rest of the night she captured lots of great spontaneous and candid moments in addition to the long list of photo requests we had put together for her. She even sent us a bunch of them as a ‘sneak peak” the day after the wedding, and emailed us a link to all our pictures and sent our flash drive (and a sweet note and delicious cookies she sent with them, a nice touch!) within a few weeks of the wedding. From the initial stages of beginning to look for a photographer, I knew we would pick Maria before we even met her in person. Maria instantly made us feel comfortable during the first interactions and during the engagement photo shoot as it was clear she knew exactly what it was we were looking for and liked. Through our long engagement and the wedding planning process, Maria was always very responsive and thoughtful in answering my many inquires that came up along the way. Robert Sent on 10/04/2017Maria was fantastic to work with. She had some great ideas, but also listened to us and was willing to do pretty much anything we asked. We were able to get great photos of the dance floor, the ceremony, and the cocktail hour, and she helped us arrange several group shots (college friends, family etc) as well as a few pictures of the entire party. I highly recommend working with Maria!

Nicole Sent on 12/27/2016About ten minutes into my meeting with Maria, I just knew I wanted to work with her! And I am so glad that I did! Maria fit my wedding into her schedule on short notice (we put our wedding together in about six weeks) and she was more than willing to email us whenever we had any sort of questions (we live in WV but had the wedding in RI). On the day of, she was extremely helpful. I even turned to her in the middle of pictures and simply asked for help because I was completely overwhelmed. The quality of her work is amazing! I already followed-up on having her shoot our maternity session in a few months! And I'm about 1000% sure I'll ask her to shoot our newborn session and family sessions too! I highly recommend Maria!!!
