    Mapleside is the Best

What a wonderful event we had, especially under the covid circumstances. Maddie was the best planner/manager we could have expected! Thanks for a memorable time.

    Incredible attention to detail

We had our daughter's wedding at Mapleside Farms in the Lodge. We worked with Riki and she was great! On the day of the wedding l, she was there, as well as Madina and Missy, who went above and beyond to make sure our event was perfect! Would recommend this venue and the catering from "A Taste of Excellence" , everything was perfect!!! It was a beautiful wedding and we received many compliments on the venue, the food and the staff !!!

We looked into Mapleside as our venue and with it being a winter wedding we eventually landed on a ceremony in the cellar and reception upstairs in the lodge. It sounds as though the Barn is a popular place but let me tell you that everyone was impressed with the layout of the Lodge and loved it. The bridal room was clutch and we were able to set up tables and a photo booth in the bar area so that almost no one was glued to their chairs at the dinner table all night. The wooden interior manages to set a rustic mood and was much warmer of a setting than "dimly lit ballroom" which I was so desperate to avoid.

I will say that there are some mixed reviews and I can only speak for my experience with the venue itself as the catering and site was managed by a third-party (A Taste of Excellence at the time we booked). The property itself was great and we would never have known there was a concert in the barn the same night. Security kept strays from wandering in and the parking lot was reserved for our guests. We mentioned the reviews to our event manager and she brought up that the pricing for the barn works a little differently but it is more straight forward for the Lodge/Cellar and the issues began to make sense to me. The bottom line is that we didn't have any problems at all come up and we didn't let the reviews scare us away and we had a beautiful event. Some of our guests asked us about the booking and I am crossing my fingers that we will eventually get an invite to a wedding here so we can experience it from the stress free side of things and have as much fun as we did on our wedding day again.

We had our ceremony and reception at the barn at Mapleside Farms. Though we worked mainly with A Taste of Excellence we were very pleased with our venue. It was absolutely gorgeous!

The place was amazing, the view from the top of the hill we got married on was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a nicer or hotter day for September. not a cloud in the sky. Everyone was very helpful and nice. Just a beautiful place!

We were so please with having our wedding at Mapleside! I had a budget of $5000 and this reception with wonderful food was less than I had budgeted for. We had an outdoor ceremony. As the bridal party was getting pictures the guest played cornhole and the kids blew bubbles, bobbed for apples, and had potato sack races. We hoped to have the reception outside but decided the night before that it was going to be too hot so we moved the reception inside. It was still a wonderful day. The staff was wonderful and right on top of things. They had high chairs at the tables with young children...which I asked for. They also were very caring towards the elderly. They would help them carry their food to the tables. The owner of the restaurant was also there helping the whole time.

I loved my wedding, the venue was perfect! My only complaint is that it is a bit expensive just for the lodge, not to mention the price of the barn! Having our ceremony outdoors overlooking the pond was awesome. You do have to use A Taste of Excellence Catering. Luckily A Taste of Excellence was a great company to work with.

While I did not work with any one from Mapleside directly (I am reviewing the venue itself, as A Taste of Excellence is the required caterer/vendor), I cannot rave enough about their venue, the Barn! It is in a jaw dropping gorgeous location, with a beautiful (air-conditioned!) barn. I was in love with the venue from the first time I saw it, and it kept improving from there! They added a pergola (great to have your ceremony under) and added all new landscaping! It was an amazing venue and I have been receiving compliments on it non-stop since the wedding.

I had my ceremony outdoors overlooking the apple orchard and I kept receiving compliments about the beautiful scenery. I arrived two and a half hours early to get pictures with my bridesmaids and all the chairs were already set up and ready to go. I did not request it to be up earlier, but the trellis did not make an appearance until about two hours before the wedding. I think we got some great pictures simply because the landscape was so beautiful. The staff were very kind and let me and the bridesmaids wait downstairs in one of their banquet rooms between pictures and the ceremony so we did not have to drive back to our hotel. They even offered to get us drinks while we were waiting.

I also had my rehearsal dinner here and the food was amazing! We ate family style on the upper level of the restaurant and had the entire level to ourselves. We could even walk out on the attached wrap around patio and enjoy the view of the orchards. My only complaint is that between booking the facilities and the actual events there was a new event manager hired. There was some information that needed to be re-iterated due to this. Overall, everything went very well and I was pleased with venue.

My fiancee and I toured Mapleside Farms and we were completely impressed with how beautiful the venue sites are. Especially the main reception area. Everything is completely renovated and spotless with amazing views. Just stunning. Both Karen and Riki went out of their way to answer all of our questions and to get us full quotes on everything. The only bump in the road that ended with us choosing another vendor was while Mapleside's costs were very resonable those for their catering partner were not. There seemed to be an extra charge for everything including your servers and coffee. And that's on top of being charged a service charge and having an open bar. In the end the extra charges for things that other places include was so much we had to take another route which is a shame because we loved the place.

    Thoughtful Review on the Management

I’ve been drafting this review throughout an entire year of planning a wedding at Mapleside Farms Barn. There have been so many extreme highs and lows that I want the consumer to ultimately understand exactly what they are getting into, as planning a wedding effectively took up a year of my life. Anyone spending a year planning and saving thousands of dollars deserves an honest review. This review is written after many drafts and contemplation.

NOTE: This review is for MAPLESIDE FARMS BARN, not A Taste of Excellence. I will leave them a separate, outstanding review.

    Mapleside Farms BARN

Summary: This barn stands on property that has been maintained as an apple orchard and working farm for a century. The owners have very vividly changed hands within the past few years and after many changes and expansions, a beautiful barn venue was built within the last 5 years. What you have here is a stunning, gorgeous, jaw dropping barn venue atop a sweeping, beautiful setting that is run by new, greedy, absent and insensitive people. It is a cash cow for them and nothing else. I hope they continue to receive this honest feedback in hopes of changing their behavior.

Pros: This is THE best barn venue in northeast Ohio. I looked at them all. The only runner up was Rivercrest Farm in Dover, Ohio. I highly recommend looking at Rivercrest if you find Mapleside too difficult.

Mapleside is new, spotless, romantic, charming, rustic, warm and facing the best view you’ll ever find for a wedding in the Cleveland area. Our guests were completely in awe and are still saying that it was the most amazing venue. Did I mention it poured rain all day at our wedding and we could not go outside once? That’s how beautiful it is. Rainy wedding was still a success. Choose Mapleside if your #1 priority above all else is beauty and romance.

Cons: As a reflection of the new owners disinterest in their cash cow of a barn, they hand off 100% of the barn management responsibly to a catering company. While I thought the catering company was the best in Cleveland, they are still... a catering company. They are not barn managers. And while they may scoff at this statement, they know what I’m talking about. As the consumer, you are FORCED to speak to the caterers with every single barn question, which does not always go smoothly. In fact, the barn managers and owners will not only ignore you if you try to contact them, but they will “tell on you” to the catering company and you will have to receive an awkward call from the caterers that makes you feel small and intimidated. It is a very childish, selfish, greedy, disgusting way to run a business. But when you have the corner on the market for barns in Cleveland, why should you have to be kind? Buyer beware of this environment. The product of dealing with the caterers with questions in regard to a farm with multiple festivals, concerts, fairs, thousands of families and kids, tons of noise, etc. is that you have to work HARD to get all the info. Example: I visited the barn ½ dozen times before booking it to observe the farm at ceremony time. I witnessed a stalled wedding b/c the bride was too upset to come out because of all the farm noise interfering with her wedding. The security guards told me that she had not been informed of all the farm elements that could be loud during her ceremony. So, I still booked the barn but spent a year (yes, a year) sending follow-up emails to a million people to ensure that would not happen to me.

All in all, we loved our wedding at the Barn. But because of bad farm management, days and days and days of my time were taken up all year over email and phone trying to secure information that was hard to get. It was a full time job dealing with Mapleside and I think it’s only fair to write a review that is clear in stating that they manage the barn absolutely terribly.

My fiancé and I were limited on time when picking a venue as we are planning our wedding from out of state. We specifically flew home for one weekend to find a wedding venue. With that, we had narrowed our venue down to our top 2 choices, visited the first, reserved the date there, then went to Mapleside. We fell in love with it! I had asked prior to the visit at Mapleside for a detailed spreadsheet of the cost which they could not provide. Then at the venue I asked about the cost of the rental space which they told me was $4,000 and then I specifically asked if there was a catering minimum which they told me no. I even asked them while I was there for a break down of the cost once again. Karen, the women in charge, gave me the Taste of Excellence generic catering menu which did not list any catering minimums. Later, when I called back, I asked again about the cost I was reassured by Karen that there was a $4,000 minimum and that she could get me out the door with rentals and catering at $100 - 110 per person. With that, My fiancé and I dropped our reserved date at the other venue and decided to go with Mapleside. It wasn't until my fifth phone call (mind you I'm out of state at this point) with Karen that she threw a $18,000 catering minimum at my fiancé and I. We were shocked. Because of her bad business strategy (with holding a $18,000 minimum) we decided to drop Mapleside. Unfortunately our other venue does not have any available dates left for the summer so now we are back at square one. I will say though that each time I spoke with Karen she was very nice.

    STAY AWAY
Email us at OurMaplesideWedding@gmail.com and we can send you our detailed story. Our experience was overall horrible. We are still meeting with Greg (the owner), two months after the wedding, as we try to resolve the situation. Mapleside owns the barn, but Taste Of Excellence pays rent to operate it and cater events. This has caused huge problems. Some of the highlights from our memorable experience include:
-being lied to by Taste about a new ceremony site that Mapleside knew would not be built in time for our wedding.
-not knowing who is in charge of their venue. It is Mapleside's barn, but Taste Of Excellence represents the property as well as caters the events. However, Taste has been able to tell us lies about the property and then in the end they are able to say "we are only the catering company". Nobody is held accountable here.
-randomly finding out the barn was 8 weeks behind schedule only because we called Taste Of Excellence to ask a question about parking passes.
-2 months before the wedding, after finding out there will be no new ceremony site as promised and the barn would not be completed as originally told, we are given two options. 1. Take our money back and leave to find a whole different venue 2. Stay with Mapleside & Taste and receive "upgraded linens", but no discount.
-2 weeks later and less than 2 months before the wedding, we are offered a discount (22% catering service fee discounted to 10% because the barn was not completed as promised) and then having the discount taken away TWO HOURS before the wedding rehearsal. We stuck with them and we have yet to receive this discount. The owner Greg, will say that the discount only applied if we chose the lodge instead of the barn. This specific condition was never told to us.
-And having Mapleside ask us to sign a non-disclosure agreement that would prevent us from sharing our experience with anyone.

Absolutely terrible. The event coordinator actually "forgot" about our wedding when we arrived that day-even though I had just spoken with Mapleside the day prior to make sure everything was all set. In fact, they had to call her at home to come in and she showed up in something you'd probably wear as pajamas to bed. Nothing was set up. Fortunately for my husband, father in law and wedding officiant, they helped pull everything together and help the staff set up. Also we were promised in our meeting with Mapleside prior to our wedding we would have two waiters. We had one. Who was also working the main restaurant and bar so could not devote his full attention to us. He did an amazing job though for what he had thrown at him at the last minute. I was just apalled at the awful coordinating that was done. I would not recommend them to anyone other than to visit the restaurant to eat because the food is outstanding.
